White HP 14.1" Pavilion dv4-2145dx Entertainment Laptop 4GB Notebook 320GB PC Computer

White HP 14.1' Pavilion dv4-2145dx Entertainment Laptop 4GB Notebook 320GB PC ComputerI bought this laptop a few days ago and so far it's great!

PROS:

01. Sleek Design

02. HP Quick Web very cool feature, where you don't need to load Windows 7 or your operating system in order to access everyday stuff like internet and email, music, dvds etc... It saves you battery.

03. Fast Runs multiple programs at once without or with little lag.

04. For the price, the Graphics are good and you can play games fine, but don't try to run anything major.

05. Finally a laptop that comes with great preloaded software!!! Hulu, Mediasmart just to name a few...

06. Nice size. Not too small and not too big.

07. Even though the exterior is glossy, this white version don't show up fingerprints as the case with other black HPs.

08. It's quite light to carry around. U can take out the DVD drive and replace with a "dummy drive" to make it up to 1/2 pound lighter.

09. Keyboard Very comfortable keyboard. No problems... It also has a numeric keypad embedded into the alpha keyboard. Doesn't replace your typical standalone keypad, but it comes in handy sometimes.

CONS:

01. Limited Battery Life I got about 2 hours with Windows 7 browsing the internet. I am considering purchasing a 12 cell battery replacement.

02. The touchpad is glossy and can take some getting used too. But I don't think that it should be a deal breaker since it can easily replaced with a wireless mouse.

I would recommend this computer for someone who wants a fast entertainment pc that has a great screen and is light enough to carry around.

I had this computer about 2 years. The CPU went. Checking online I see that is a common problem with these laptops. I was advised to just buy another laptop instead of sending in for repair. Look into another brand, I think HP is not what it use to be. I am moving on.

I received this as my high school graduation present and it only lasted me for two years. As you may have guessed, the motherboard died on me. I spend over $100 in repair costs which lead to no use, it always ended up black screening on me. In the two years that it did work, the battery life was exceptionally poor and the laptop ran extremely HOT.

The reason for the motherboard issue is that the video card on the motherboard overheats. HP knew that the heat sink design was false, yet they still sold these laptops. What does that say about the integrity of HP? A lightly used laptop should never only last two years. Because of this, HP will never get my business again when it comes to any of their products. I will not support a company that holds such poor standards.

Every single customer that bought this piece of junk should fully be refunded for this joke of a laptop.

DO NOT buy this laptop. It will FAIL you.

HP Pavilion g7-1019wm 17.3"LED Webcam 4GB 500GB 2.26GHz

HP Pavilion g7-1019wm 17.3'LED Webcam 4GB 500GB 2.26GHzI'm a techie, sure. But I also know that if you're patient, -you can get exceptional technology at a stunning price. You MUST be patient. This HP computer is absolutely stunning when you factor the price in (I paid $359). It's considered a "middle of the road" unit. It replaced a top-of-the-line HP DV-8000 that was beginning to show it's age. Considering the DV-8000 cost many times the price, --Let me tell you that waiting is the best policy as opposed to "buying today's best". I'm writing this review on it.

i'm very happy with the product so far! with online school and children web surfing it's in constant use and works great... thanks

This is a HP product, came in good time, packaged well, and was a windows 7 computer. (I am a firm believer in the "every other OS sucks" school of microsoft products). I have checked out the parts and pieces, and it will meet my needs just fine. Because the vendor is in Indiana, I have a belief that they are honest and would deal with any flaws. Midwest bias, I guess.

Lenovo G580 15.6-Inch Laptop (Dark Brown IMR/Metal)

Lenovo G580 15.6-Inch LaptopThis is very light weight and easy to travel with. I love how the charge connects on the side not on the back. Windows 8 is a bit of a learning curve but it easy to navagate. This computer is quite and processes at a fast rate. Would not buy if you are super in to graphics, but for basic gaming/ youtubing it is great. Connects to the HDMI for tv use great.

I think this is a great computer in terms of price. The home and num lock button takes a little while to adjust. Windows 8 looks promising but the skype app is terrible. Other than that so far I am enjoying it. Recommended.

I had an issue with this laptop where the screen went dim when the adapter was plugged in. After much searching online i find out it's a rather common issue with Lenovo Laptops and had to use a workaround fix because even Lenovo doesn't know whats wrong with their product.

Sony VAIO VPCEH34FX/L 15.5-Inch Laptop (Blue)

Sony VAIO VPCEH34FX/L 15.5-Inch LaptopThe only thing I will recomend for this laptop,is, buy another 4gig memory card and expand it to 8. I got a card at best buy for 25 bucks, and it really made a vast improvement in my computers speed. I'm sure you can find one at Amazon for less, but its well worth the investment. If you get a card, Youtube has many videos on how to install it. Trust me, it was easy. It took 5 min. You will not have to have a shop do it. Just remember to remove the battery before you do it, and have a small philips ready.

I did tons of research before I purchased this computer, & I'm so glad i purchased this one! Set up is a breeze. I love the pattern on the computer, it completely eliminates finger prints & smudges. I have read reviews that said not very good speakers/sound. But, I have to disagree, mine is powerful & I love it! The offset track pad is in the perfect position for typing & very convenient. Fast shipping,(I chose 2 day)arrived exactly when it was estimated. Tracking was dead on accurate. I love this computer, hopefully it lasts a long time! Overall review: BUY IT!!!

I couldn't be happier with my new Sony laptop. I switched from an HP Entertainment laptop and have no regrets. Being a neat freak I especially love the texture of the outside and wrist rest area that doesn't show fingerprints. I was able to set it up and get going in no time. I read some comment regarding the screen size being smaller... doesn't bother me at all. Love it!

Best 6hundred bucks ever spent this laptop is everything and so much more! I searched and searched for close to a year (NOT KIDDING) to make sure I got something that was worth every penny. And I'm more then satisfied w/my new pink VAIO. I love this thing and treat it like gold. lol It's my first but my Mother in-law has gone through so many laptops (none were Sony) in the past 3 years it's insane. and it's not like she dropped any of them they just couldn't keep up with all the work she does and did and just burnt out on her or overheated. I have always had and grown up around Sony products and they've always held up to there standards.

If your thinking about a new laptop and your not sure this is a great buy!

But do your research and never make a purchase until you feel a 100% confident in what your investing in.

Lenovo ThinkPad X130e 06222GU 11.6" LED Notebook - AMD E-450 1.65GHz - Matte Black

Lenovo ThinkPad X130e 06222GU 11.6' LED Notebook - AMD E-450 1.65GHz - Matte BlackWe already have a few of these and we needed 3 more. I got them from Antonline which is a great Amazon partner. everything shipped on time and I got them in perfect condition. These laptops are very good as far as speed/graphics and for their price and size. we deploy them to our Sales people who use them for daily emailing, spread sheeting and the use of our custom software. these machines play 1080p video without an issue.

Just about the only laptops I've bought for myself and the office have been ThinkPads. So, admittedly, I'm spoiled. Over the years, between my wife and our kids we've had HPs, Toshibas, MacBooks, and we've liked them all. These may be a little more costly, but they live more than long enough to pay for themselves. In fact, they don't die. I've got a 2001 ThinkPad which, by today's standards, is woefully inadequate, to the point of being practically useless, however, it still works like a charm. Go figure. Laptops get banged around. They get dropped. Oh, yeah. I bought this one to replace a Toshiba NetBook that was really nice. It fell, while it was running, and that did it in. If it had been a ThinkPad it probably would have survived becuase they protect themselves in such circumstances. Now, this one was expressly designed to put up with the mishandling of school kids. There's an old adage that if you want to find out if something's really indestructable, just give it to a kid. This is destined to be a road warrior and it should serve us well for a long time. And a quick note about SquareTrade accident protection. I got it for the Toshiba, as well as for this one. I contacted SquareTrade ater the accident, and they were super. The process went quickly and smoothly, resulting in a full refund. I couldn't have been more pleased.

Dell Inspiron Special Edition 15R i15Rse 15-Inch Laptop - Intel Core i5, 6GB DDR3 Memory, 750GB Har

Dell Inspiron Special Edition 15R i15Rse 15-Inch Laptop - Intel Core i5, 6GB DDR3 Memory, 750GB Hard Drive, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7730M, Windows 7 ProfessionalSurprise ... what I thought I purchased was a used machine from Warehouse Deals a few days ago in late May with cosmetic damage IS actually brand new! The Dell cardboard box had cosmetic damage and was re-taped though, but everything inside was PERFECT and NEW, New, new. I immediately called Dell to see what manufacturer's coverage was on my "used machine". Dell tracked the machine's Express Code and Service Tag and let me know in their system my machine was "purchased" in mid April and I had the remainder of 1 Year Basic Hardware Service with 1 Year Onsite Service after Remote Diagnosis.

Dell said this model is also known as 15R-7520 which made it easier for me to find technical reviews and comparisons on the web (BE SURE to look at the PRODUCT DESCRIPTION on this for expanded specs beyond the comparison chart provided). There are so many Dell Sales going on the next few days I felt compelled to get the positive word out about this laptop for comparison purposes to counter the 1 STAR review. I'm pleased even though when I did a WINDOWS Update there were 48 needed and another half dozen have trickled in over 2 days. It's working fine and is a major improvement and upgrade over my VAIO.

Right now I wish the battery would provide more than 4 hours uptime and the touchpad wasn't quite as sensitive. Web surfing, watching videos and listening to music are quick, clear, crisp and a joy. The backlit key board with nice sized keys is good for typing in low lighting (ok, in bed at night). I'm NOT a gamer so I have no clue if this machine would appeal to gamers. I'll provide more detailed review AFTER I get my hands on Office 2010 Professional Plus for installation and use.

I don't mind being a software package release behind. I specifically was looking for a WINDOWS 7 based machine to replace my ailing 5 year old VISTA-based Sony VAIO AND avoid WINDOWS 8. I'm past my prime early adopter/bleeding edge days, especially since there are NO DISKS to restore the system from a hard crash. The VAIO has the same size screen and fantastic visuals but NOT the amount of memory or advanced chipset as the Dell. It's comparing apples and avocados given the advances in 5 years, this DELL is a major upgrade. Thus far the learning curve/transition from Vista to WINDOWS 7 isn't as traumatic as from XP to Vista. I STILL miss XP :)

Of course, as the other reviewer said, there's no Windows certificate on the bottom of the machine. It's not an issue for me, I don't travel internationally.

My past experience with Dell through grad school, work and home computing was business-based "build your own" with tons of pre-installed software, their disks + documentation. This is my first Dell specifically for home. It feels good to be back with Dell after my foray to big box stores, their LAME Tuxedo service plans and other computer manufacturer's. The power within a not so stylish shell is fine with me because it performs well. The only other computer manufacturer I considered this go round was Lenovo. Price and Graphics pushed me to Dell. At 62% of Suggested Retail, do the math, a decent deal for a NEW machine!

UPDATE 6/8/2013 Still HAPPY with my purchase! I requested and Dell sent Restore Disks and Driver Disks. They also showed me a few other spiffy things to do with my laptop. Have been using Open Office very well while deciding IF I'll purchase Office Professional Plus OR await my next freelance contract to offer me to "plug into" Office 365... whatev. I've had person-to-person contact with Dell Tech Support and email support that I haven't used as I get follow-up calls from them. So far REAL GOOD!!!

Even with the manufacturer's warranty verified to be in effect until April, 2014, I'm still going to purchase a Square Trade Warranty Plan within 30 days of my laptop purchase. I have purchased Square Trade Warranties on other "Used-Good as new" items from Warehouse Deals too. IF you've noticed, I do squeeze my pennies lol!

UPDATE 6/11/2013 Gamers make sure you run an assortment of games when you get your machine AND take notes documenting actions that cause BSOD (Blue Screen OF Death). This is JUST in case you've got a laptop that hasn't had the Motherboard or the Graphics card software upgraded. Some machines are older, before the flaws were detected. DO NOT attempt to replace the Motherboard or Graphics card itself OR you'll void what's left on your Warranty! Get in touch with Dell Tech Support ASAP with concerns.

***I am not sponsored by any company, have purchased all mentioned items with my own money***

This is the 5th laptop I have purchased over the years. First time a laptop was purchased for me online (as gift). I've been working & traveling in the middle east for 10 years, but this is the first time I've been had -in the USA. The laptop delivered to me (Sunshine Trade fulfilled by Amazon) has no Windows 7 Pro license sticker. When I travel again, how can I convince the Airport Customs Officer now if the OS in my laptop is genuine and not pirated? Specs is good, but still no good if no proof of OS license Dell Inspiron Special Edition 15R i15Rse 15-Inch Laptop Intel Core i5, 6GB DDR3 Memory, 750GB Hard Drive, 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7730M, Windows 7 Professional

Sony VAIO E Series SVE14132CXW 14-Inch Laptop (White)

Sony VAIO E Series SVE14132CXW 14-Inch LaptopI was very happy when I received this laptop. After doing research and looking at my budget, I thought this would be the best fit for me. I am mainly using it for web browsing and photo editing. So far, it does everything I need it to.

If you're looking at a higher end windows product, I would go with a Sony Vaio E series. I'm particularly an Apple fan, but a Macbook pro was not in my budget. So I went with the next best thing! I'm still getting used to Windows 8, but it's very easy to use once you get the hang of how everything works.

So if you're looking for a higher quality computer for photo editing, school work or just browsing the internet I would highly recommend this laptop. It gets the job done and doesn't hurt your wallet.

This is my first Sony VAIO purchase and I have to say it's really good! It's design is beautiful as well as the Sea-foam color I believe that's what it's called. It has a beautifully back-lit keyboard makes it very easy to see at night obviously but in the day too it looks really nice. It's very lightweight and thanks to it's 5400RPM HDD it does not get hot at all which is a relief because this is a problem I have run into with other laptops.

It comes with an Intel i3 processor which is great for everyday tasks and having several programs open. I use Cisco Packet Tracer while listening to music on YouTube or Pandora and having my browser, Mozilla open with multiple tabs open and it handles it very well.

I plan on slapping another 2 gigs to this PC to run better because I need it but for everyday use and stuff it should be fine.

This PC comes with Windows 8! As stated on the product specs. Okay Windows 8 is pretty good, yes it has a new interface but not so different honestly. When the PC boots you will be prompted with MS new Metro UI (User Interface). It 's very nice actually the apps are pretty cool and it just shows where OS(operating system(s)) are going. Many people have approached Windows 8 with a negative attitude because of the interface but if you look back when the transition went from WinXP to Windows Vista soon after Windows 7 people reacted the same but then got used to it and so I believe that's how Windows 8 is going to be.

*I do advise you to invest 5 dollars in a program called Start8* This program brings back the Start button that we are so used to seeing in Windows 7 and it functions just like Windows 7 and it makes the transition a little less painful with all the extra clicking that Windows 8 forces us to make.

Graphics are good too it's nothing spectacular but hey it's good enough. This PC can edit HD & 3D videos it's sort of like Windows Movie Maker, and it comes with Sound Forge where you can create your own music which is pretty cool don't think I will use it but somebody else probably will.

In the package where the instruction manual comes will be a promotional credit where Sony gives you 3 credits for you to use on Google Play where you can watch 3 movies of your choice with the selection given unlimited times. I don't think you can download it which is unfortunate but still it's 3 movies.

I know this is a long review and not the best but I do hope it has helped anyone interested in getting this PC.

Overall, it's a great PC. This is not suited for somebody needing to have Photoshop open with some Adobe Illustrator and 10 tabs on your browser open. But more for someone with little-moderate use and also this is price range I was looking for as well.

Feel free to leave a comment or a question and I will try to answer it to the best of my ability!

Regards,

Andrew Ramirez

Buy Sony VAIO E Series SVE14132CXW 14-Inch Laptop (White) Now

Worked just fine for two months and then the computer died. Every support person I dealt with from Sony was based in India. Each one of them wants to walk through a 15 minute trouble shooting routine of removing the battery, remove memory, etc. Non of the trouble shooting solved the issue. After two weeks they sent a repair person to fix the laptop. He replaced the mother board and the machine was alive again. Two and a half months later the computer died again. I called Sony to return the machine for a refund or a new laptop and they refused. They are planing to send a repair person out again. Does not sound very cost effective to me. At this point I would buy any brand of laptop over a Sony. I understand that sometimes you just get a lemon, the answer is replace the lemon or issue a refund. You really don't want to spend over 15 hours with Sony support!

I had this computer for 4 months and the hard drive crashed one day with no warning. Sony has done little to help and it has to be sent out to be fixed. I have NEVER had such a upsetting issue with a computer so quickly! I will never buy a sony computer again. It was such a waste of over $700.00. Grr. Save your money and buy a Macbook!

Want Sony VAIO E Series SVE14132CXW 14-Inch Laptop (White) Discount?

I bought this laptop with just three things in mind: good portability, long battery life, and solid build quality. And to my delight, the laptop fulfilled all three. However, I wasn't completely satisfied with the product and, therefore, unable to give 5 stars. Why? Not even a week after I turned the laptop on for the first time, the hard drive starting making abnormal clicking sounds from time to time. Hard drives aren't silent, I know that, but the noises produced from the laptop's hard drive were definitely far from normal. Almost everything else about the laptop is stellar though good enough, in fact, to warrant 4/5 stars.

GOOD PORTABILITY

The laptop should be portable, given its compact 14" screen size. It's pretty thin, but also fairly wide for its class. The laptop almost fills my 15" laptop sleeve in fact. Weight-wise, it's right where it needs to be at just a little under 5 lbs. I like the slightly indented sides of the laptop which allow you to pick it up easily without having to really 'dig underneath' with your fingers.

GREAT BATTERY LIFE

Where this laptop really shines is its battery life performance. Just browsing around on the web, I was able to achieve almost 6 hours from a full charge without charging the laptop during use. The 5300 mah battery definitely helps. I left the screen brightness at its default setting which was pretty dim, but definitely ample enough to view comfortably. I like the fact that the screen automatically adjusts its brightness level to accommodate for the surrounding light environment.

DECENT BUILD QUALITY

Sony's never been shoddy when it comes to its products' appearances, and this laptop is no different. Though made entirely out of plastic, the plastic doesn't feel cheap. The laptop doesn't flex too much, but there is a little bit of a 'cratering' from the edge of the keyboard inwards. The backlit keys light up brightly as well. The touchpad is very large and responsive to multiple gestures. However, I wasn't a fan of the loud-clicking buttons below the touchpad. The buttons were not only loud but stiff too, requiring quite a bit of pressure to depress. And, again, the hard drive noise issue I experienced really was a drag on the quality too, but I hardly doubt it is a widespread issue for me to call the quality of the laptop poor.

Hopefully, if you buy this laptop, you won't experience the issues I had with it. If not for the issues I experienced, the laptop would've definitely been a keeper. Sony's made a really good laptop for the price!

ASUS G75VW-DH72 i7-3740QM 3.7GHz GTX 670M 16GB RAM 256GB SSD + 750GB HDD BLURAY Windows 8

ASUS G75VW-DH72 i7-3740QM 3.7GHz GTX 670M 16GB RAM 256GB SSD + 750GB HDD BLURAY Windows 8< So After getting in contact with iP Camera they said they were sorry and offered me a refund on the computer. I am happy with the end results and iP camera getting in contact with me asap. >

I will leave what I wrote as a warning to other buyers unless the description gets fixed.

Here is what happened.

I received this computer today all sealed up. No work done by HID and also does not come with 3740QM processor. (as per iP camera after talking with them, Be careful as what is in the description is not what you will get.. I am not just a mad troll or reviewer. I bought this hoping it would be everything that I ordered and even gave it a chance after reading on the box that it was not what I ordered, I opened it started it up and went into device manager to make sure it had the 3740qm. Nope.... Stay away they will just charge you huge for lower grade computer. It is not a bad computer as is at all. But when you pay $2,200 you want what you paid for. This is a good computer at the $1800 price range not this price. I will give it 3 stars for iP camera fixing it but the description not getting fixed.

Carful with this laptop. I have been having issue with the laptop

that i purchased from IP Camera Store from the moment I booted it up. I

have been trying to discover a way to mend the problems but everything has

failed me(ASUS TECH SUPPORT, ASUS FOURMS). ASUS gave me two options return it to the supplyer or send it to them for the to attempt to fix it. There main place is in california im in florida i don't want to wait a month for something that might be fixed. The computer screen is constantly flickering while unplugged from the power cord. From the moment i turned it on to set up my profile on windows 8 it started

to flicker. I have gone to the official ASUS ROG website to

find a solution and have fond that there are several people with the screen

flickering issue and no one has a solution that has worked for me. I have

also had issues with unresponsive programs and randomly closing me out of

programs. My back light keyboard does not turn on with the fn+f4

combination. The laptop has also had an issue connecting to my WiFi while

all my other electronics have no issues. This laptop is over 2200$ and was

not expecting it to have any type of issues.I received this laptop on Tuesday 12

Feb 2013. ROG forms told me to see if a return is possible and receive a

swap for this computer for another one of the same model. IP camera store was my supplier i contacted them and they routed me back to ASUS. In conclusion I am going to return this computer and rebuy it hopeing that it is not a lemon. The computer while plugged in is a fantastic piece of machinery (minus the random screen flickering. I strongly believe that I got a lemon and that is the only reason why I have rated this product 4 stars. I will return here once I receive a new one and will up date on the return process with this company "IP CAMERA STORE".

UPDATE: -"March 01 2013"-

ddr3 ram is nice

320 gb hard drive big but not huge, and hey its a laptop

Cons: video card is great for everything but pushing polygons.

shared video memory is the lose would like some on board gddr5 even 128 mb only would be a huge increase than shared ddr3 ( at least its better than shared ddr2 )

I was a bit nervous at first regarding my laptop being cracked open by a third party company. I wasn't sure if they were just putting cheap parts in or what. I'm a web-master and I use to have a computer repair company so I'm no stranger to computers. I'm quite impressed with the performance! From what I see they used high performance parts.

Windows boots up in seconds! I run Adobe products, some of the biggest resource hogs and this laptop runs them like they are nothing.

The only complaint would be I kind of wish I went with the glossy display... Although I have little experience with the gloss display and I might be frustrated with glare from a gloss finish. The screen is so bright I can see it with direct sun light. The mat finish kind of gives it that cheap look. Don't get me wrong, the colors pop out if set up properly. I just feel like if I could do it all over again i'd probably get the glossy screen. It's all preference.

Windows 8, well that's a different story. Again it's what you prefer... I think windows 8 is getting bad publicity just for the fact that windows has been the same since windows 95 and now it's different. I guess it's like teaching and old dog new tricks. Honestly I prefer 7 over 8. If you take the time to learn 8 I think you might learn to love it.

Overall I love this machine!!! I did a lot of research on all of the other laptops and I'm very happy with my choice!

Samsung NP300U1A-A01US Ultra Portable 11.6" Laptop (1.30 GHz Intel Core i3-2357M Processor, 4 GB RA

Samsung NP300U1A-A01US Ultra Portable 11.6' LaptopThings to consider before buying:

-Matte screen: personal preference, for some it is a plus because it doesn't become a mirror during bright conditions. The bad side is it's not as bright as its glossy counterpart.

-Keyboard: chiclet type keys, again personal preference. I prefer the regular type of keyboard where there are no spaces in between but I can live with it. Also, it lacks a dedicated "Page Up/Page Down, Home, End" keys. They are function keys instead and also, the multi-finger-touch-pad and its swipe features somewhat replaces these keys. I'm a keyboard type of guy though and it is annoying for me when I have to switch keyboard to touchpad constantly, more on this later...

Those are pretty much the cons of this laptop. Others may point out the tiny speakers but honestly, I've never heard of a sub 14" laptop produce good sound.. maybe loud and lots of treble but lacks the bass. This is super light, around 2+ lbs. and comes with lots of extras: hdmi, bt3.0, cat5, vga/sub, cam, mem card reader, 3 usb. I think that in itself is amazing at this weight and price (well I got mine on sale during the Staples deal of $349).

Build quality is good. Lots of plastic though but I guess thats to cut the weight and keep the cost down.

Pet peeve: after doing a lot of web surfing and multitasking, aka typing and moving the cursor around and clicking here and there.. the touchpad glitch (keyboard to touchpad delay) gets in the way; google it for more info. Basically if you use the keyboard, the touchpad is unresponsive until a short amount of time has passed (~2 seconds). The idea behind this is to prevent accidental touches on the pad (which I can assure does happen a lot on other laptops). But I think I'd rather live with accidental touches than the delay. A lot of people have the same issue so it's not just me. The touchpad uses the Elan Tech software (as of 10/16/2011) there is no fix for it that I know. I downloaded the latest driver/software from Samsung support website and all it did was change the default setting of the touchpad sensitivity to have the least noticeable amount of delay. While it reduced the delay, it is still there. I suppose I'll be using a mouse and disabling the touchpad to work around this issue or if Samsung or Elan Tech ever does an update.

The other thing is the miniscule battery included. I wouldn't mind the extra weight if it would give me 8 hours as opposed to 2-2.5 hours. Now I have to lug around the power adapter which is more weight. Nice thinking there, Samsung. Probably cost cutting factor though.

Back to the goodies. This laptop is very fast as it comes with an Intel i3 (slow version) but its still multitudes faster than similar Atom netbooks and a 4GB ram. I won't be playing high end 3D games, I have a desktop for that, but you can watch HD movies and still do other things just fine.. Staples salesperson says the MS Office was a trial version but they were wrong, you are given a full version key (though it lacks Outlook Express and other stuff that is found on the Professional version of office). Comes with MS Office 2010 Home/Student edition(powerpoint, excel, word, onenote) and the only bloatware I had to remove was Norton and Wildtangent games. Kindle software comes with it too but I actually am using it so for some it might be considered bloatware.. That's about it so far, might come back later to do an update.

I'd say it's a good laptop for the student or the office worker.

**Update: Dec 03, 2011**

==========================

I still have the same feelings about the laptop. I replaced the hard drive with a Samsung Solid State Drive [SSD] (this laptop uses a thinner than normal; 7mm VS the normal 9mm). Using an SSD is probably the best upgrade you can do to ANY computer because hard drives (non-SSD) is usually the slowest component. Now the laptop is turbo-fast! One thing I noticed though, because I had to re-install Windows 7, is that Samsung website does not have the hardware drivers/softwares for this laptop model. This model is not even listed! I ended up downloading the Samsung series 9 software. The drivers were downloaded using Windows Update (surprisingly Windows found all the drivers through updates).

FYI on the battery: People have reported bigger batteries on sale with this laptop and they say they get 6+ hours out of them. I learned to live with the 2.5 hours though..

P.S. The lag between keyboard and touchpad seems to have disappeared. I'm not sure if maybe because I got used to it or because of the new SSD or because of the new windows re-install.

For a few weeks, I've been playing with the Samsung 11.6" laptop on display at my local Staples store. I really liked the size, weight, and portability this laptop had to offer. I also liked that it ran a full version of Windows 7 Home. Staples finally put it on sale for half price this week. I bought this ultraportable laptop to replace my slow Toshiba Atom-processor netbook (with meager Windows 7 starter). What a fantastic deal. This ultraportable Samsung laptop is well made, has a sleek design, and is comfortable to use.

Once out of the slender box, I popped in the battery and plugged in the laptop into an outlet to charge the battery. It took about 2 hours. So far, my initial charge resulted in about 4 hours of use. Not bad.

The laptop keeps relatively cool and I hardly notice any fan noise. The initial setup/installation of the laptop was easy and quick. Network setup was easy as well as connecting to the network printer.

During the initial installation, the hard drive storage capacity was more like 294GB available. I ended up creating two partitions: C: (90GB) and D: (204GB). If I had to restore the system, my data on D: drive should be untouched.

As others have mentioned MS Office Home/Student edition was included along with an activation key. This version comes with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Microsoft Live apps (Mail, Messenger, Movie Maker, & Photo Gallery) are included as well as MS Live Writer that I use to write posts to my blogs.

Trial version of Norton's Internet Security is included. I registered online and was able to extend the usage for 60 days. That's long enough for me to decide whether to get the complete package or use something else.

Other applications included: Kindle and Skype

I registered my new laptop at Samsung's website and they automatically extended my one year warranty an additional 3 months. When registering, the actual make and model does show up. I know on their main website, this model doesn't show up in the product listings.

As a photographer, I plan on using this laptop for traveling and also for use at home. Mostly for minor photo editing, emails, researching on the web, and maintaining my blogs. This is a fast laptop and I haven't seen any slowness or delays. This is a true winner at a wonderful price.

I will be back to update this review as I uncover new features.

** Update 12/22/11 **

For my initial two charges: I fully charged the battery and then disconnected the laptop from the AC power source. I use the laptop for about 4 hours (off charge) and then let the battery drain completely. I let the laptop go into hibernation (~5%) and then recharge the battery 100% full. Work for another 4 hours (off charge) and let the battery drain for the second time. Recharge 100% full.

After the two full initial charges, I can now recharge when I need to. I'm still getting 4 hours of use on a single charge. So far, I'm happy with this laptop and the results I'm getting.

** Update 12/22/11 **

I've installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 on this laptop and have no issues with running this software. I've tweaked how the app will run...e.g. pointed the scratch disk to my drive D: which is has the largest space. PE automatically selected the memory size to use...I think it was 70% of the RAM. I will mainly use this program to crop my pictures, minor adjustments to contrast/brightness, add my copyright notice, reduce the image size, and save for the web.

** Update 12/23/11 **

Being a Mac desktop user, I was getting frustrated with the Windows Updates on this laptop. One time, I shut down the laptop and had 65 updates! I still had enough juice in the battery and let the updates do its thing. I felt that every other time I would shut down the laptop and there additional updates. Some took a long time.

There's a setting on the desktop that allows you to change the automatic updates feature to just letting you know that there are updates available. That way I can do the updates when I want them to occur. Here is the location of the settings if you want to make the same changes: Start>Control Panel>System and Security>Windows Update>Change Settings.

** Update 12/23/11 **

I want to make a few comments on using the trackpad. Having Mac experience and using Apple hardware, I actually like this trackpad. Initially, I had problems with my cursor wandering around the desktop or all over a web page as I was typing. I believe that is because parts of my hand or thumb would graze over the trackpad and would make the cursor jump to different areas of the screen. After an hour or two of use, it appears that the trackpad has become one with me. Strange I know. The initial issues I had are gone. The single long click button on the trackpad works like it's suppose to (left and right clicks) and works well.

** Update 03/01/12 **

This laptop travels well. I have taken this along with me on a two week cruise around the Caribbean. I mostly used it to upload and back up the 3600 pictures I took. The small size worked well for me. While on the ship, I was able to leave the laptop in the drawer when not in use. I didn't feel burdened carrying around this light laptop.

** Update 04/21/12 **

I've uncovered a neat battery calibration tool that's included in the laptop's BIOS. I ran it a few weeks ago and I'm happy to report back that it really works. I now actually get four hours of battery life on a single charge. That's while my screen brightness is set to 2 or 3 out the eight bars.

I unplug my laptop from the power source and power down the laptop. I turn the laptop back on and hit F2 as the BIOS is loading. While in the BIOS settings, there should be a Battery Calibration selection. Once selected, it will tell you to unplug the laptop from the power source and then it will force a drain on the battery. There's a bar displayed to show the status. I believe I saw maximum time was five hours depending how much juice is left on your battery. Once the battery is drained, the laptop should be plugged back in to the power source and then allowed to fully charged.

I don't know how many times this should be done. I would think after a few months of ongoing laptop use and I start to notice a drastic decline in the battery life from a single charge, I would probably do another calibration.

So a quick summary of Pro's/Con's:

Pro:

Thin design, good looking cover.

Keyboard is good and feels bigger than it is,

display is not exceptional but it's crisp and clear.

CPU is powerful, comes with 4GB of RAM

Microsoft Office 2010 full version (not pro, so no Access or Outlook)

Bluetooth 3.0

Bloatware isn't too bad....

Con:

Battery life is poor (I've been getting maybe 2.5 hours while using MS Office)

No USB 3.0 Ports

While the case never gets hot, the CPU does run on the warm side (around 45 C with nothing running) Disregard comment in video about not getting above mid 50's, it was at about 70 Celsius while rendering this video. It got VERY warm.

Fan can be on the loud side.

Samsung is very poor, microphone should not have been right next to the touch pad.

Price This would be an absolute steal at $350, or even $400. At $500 I expect a 6 cell battery for a netbook, it's got everything else so I really wish it came with a 6 cell.

Alternatives:

Samsung NP305U1A or any E-450/E-350 AMD or Intel Atom Netbook/Ultraportable. Unless you can get one for $400 or less, the i3 Sandybridge is much more powerful and worth the extra cost.

Samsung NP350U2A/Lenovo X120e or other i3 ultraportables. They usually run around $550-$600, but most come with a 6 cell battery. If you need the extra battery life it could be worth it, the NP350U2A also has a slightly larger 12.5in screen.

If you insist on getting a Solid State Drive, you'll pay about $850 for a Series 5 13.3 ultrabook with the i5 2467M processor. If you have the budget this would be an excellent move up as it has much better battery life (same 4 cell battery though) and the i5 CPU has turbo boost which will be noteably faster. In addition the ultrabook chassis is much higher quality. The price is getting close to twice as much however, so I don't think many buyers will be cross shopping the two.

My personal preference would be an Asus U31 series, preferably with the i5. They can be had for under $600, come with an external GT 520M video card (which helps a little) and have much better battery life, though they are slightly cheaper build quality, are thicker and heavier as well.

Passmark Benchmark ratings:

Battery / Plugged-In

Overall: 527.9 / 771.6

CPU: 1040.6 / 1761.8

2D GPU: 211.5 / 304.1

3D GPU: 167.3 / 205.1

Memory: 331.3 / 557.8

Disk: 554.4 / 550.2

The computer has very good spec. Powerful enough as an ultra portable laptop.

The most awesome thing is it HAS FULL License Microsoft Student Office key. (that's a $100 value in itself!). So buying this for less than $500 bucks is a great deal!

Want Samsung NP300U1A-A01US Ultra Portable 11.6" Laptop (1.30 GHz Intel Core i3-2357M Processor, 4 GB RA Discount?

I did not buy this from Amazon; I actually bought this during the firestorm sale at Staples for $350 out the door, which is an awesome deal to me IMHO.

Pros:

PRICE!!,

small, portable & light, bluetooth,

nice brush metal design,

did not come with a TON of bloatware,

good quality webcam, SD slot,

HAS FULL License Microsoft Student Office key. (that's a $100 value in itself!),

4Gb memory,

Cons:

-Only real con I have is that the battery life doesn't last so long, it is a 4000mAh battery (but that can be overcome.. have to buy a 7800mAh battery which extends from 3hrs of usage to about 5.5hrs Google for the battery).

-HD space could be bigger and faster but I don't care since i'm using for web surfing only. I have a quad-core,8Gb PC to handle bigger tasks.

only 1 slot for memory (which is fine standard 4gb installed)

I'm not going to play games on this laptop so I do not care about Video bench marks or do photoshop, video editing.

I wouldn't get it if it was $600, but it's definitely a steal for $350.

ASUS U46SM-DS51 14.1-Inch Laptop (Silver)

ASUS U46SM-DS51 14.1-Inch LaptopI bought this great looking, good specifications computer this past March. Since then the screen has split from its housing and ASUS customer service refused to fix it under warranty. The problem is that the screen is too skinny to support the force required to open and close the lid. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE. This is clearly bad manufacturing and a company who does not stand behind their 2 year warranty and 1 year accidental damage policy. A defect should always be covered under the first year with no question about having to pay for a repair. I really like the machine but the screen not opening and closing properly is probably the worst defect you could possibly have. Thanks for nothing ASUS.

I bought this product five months ago in May from this seller, and it worked beautiful from then until yesterday when my hard drive decided to go right after a Windows update. It was working perfectly fine that morning before the update, but after, it froze and wouldn't perform basic tasks. I've already contacted Asus about it and I'm trying to back up my files (to no avail, since the system is slow as molasses), but I feel like with such a new computer, I shouldn't be having such a problem. My friend bought the same exact computer, several months before me, and it's still working fine for her. I don't understand what the issue is. Did I just get a bad computer?
