Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook (Light Titan)

Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US 14-Inch UltrabookI read the reviews from the previous model and compared it with some other laptops and based on the reviews and problems thereof I decided to buy this one.

The Good:

1. Laptop Visually looks nice overall

2. Webcam works well

3. Laptop doesn't heat up too much

4. I haven't heard or am bothered by the fan

5. Ram is good. Videos, and multiple programs play well.

6. Laptop works well.

The Neutral:

1. Touchpad is not in the center of the laptop. I suppose this is a new thing and common in modern ultrabooks but still unappealing; After working with a Giant Touchpad from an Apple MacBook Pro this is somewhat of a letdown. HOwever, it does work fine and the location is chosen off center because the location of the home row keys to aid in using the thumbs to browse with mouse. Overall Aesthetically center would be nice but practically with the layout of the keyboard and length of the laptop it would not be practical. So neutral there.

The Mediocre:

1. Laptop is filled with 3rd party Bloatware. This isn't too bad, though I spent a couple hours removing much of it.

2. Most Samsung programs are junk. A program to transfer files between Samsung PCs? Bah, not necessary. I kept a few of them, Samsung Easy Settings and Fast Boot are worth keeping.

3. NVidea Control Panel is Installed, but this laptop uses Intel Graphics 4000. No Graphics Card = Software has nothing to do = Waste of space.

4. Laptop sleeps often. I have to click several times to get it to wake up. Somewhat annoying but passable.

5. Can't open Laptop with one hand. The laptop is good in that it stays well-closed. Just opening it takes too hands due to the lightweight laptop itself. Not too bad, just somewhat unideal; I suppose it comes with the ultrabook territory.

Anyway, overall the pluses far outweigh the mediocre parts and I advise this laptop. It works, is quiet, doesn't overheat, and can handle the standard programs and applications you would want to use with it.

I have had the laptop for four days now and my overall impression is that I like it very much. I did have an initial problem with the wireless adapter. It would drop connection randomly, sometimes after working for hours, other times after only a few minutes. My only option was to reboot to reestablish the connection. I got on the Intel web site and looked for support on the Intel adapter. it is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235. The Intel web site has an app that will analyze your computer and it found an updated driver. Once I installed the new driver I have not had any problems with the wireless adapter.

Computer performance is very good. It boots up quickly and restart from sleep is very fast. The touch pad works very smoothly, however the buttons are small and if your thumb hangs over onto the touch pad (mine does sometime), the touch pad doesn't work. The keys on the keyboard are sized and spaced correctly. However, they are very shallow which takes a little getting used to.

The computer is compact and very lightweight at just under 4 pounds. Even though the screen is smaller than my old laptop (16 inch Toshiba), it is very readable. I haven't ran the battery down fully, but I estimate the battery charge to last around five hours in performance mode. Power saver mode would obviously improve on that.

At this point I would not hesitate to recommend this computer.

Buy Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook (Light Titan) Now

UPDATED: after several days of working well, the connection drops are back. I don't understand how this can happen: it should either work or not, I would have thought. I will probably return it if I can't solve it another way.

UPDATED AGAIN: I returned it, got a replacement. I couldn't be more happy. Works just great. No problems. Terrific package and great performing computer. I did try out a similar featured Toshiba (R935) but the build quality and keyboard were really much worse, so the Samsung is a keeper (for now).

I selected this laptop because it was basically an ultrabook with an optical drive. Moreover it has a VGA port, two USB 3.0 ports and 1 USB 2.0 port, HDMI, huge hard drive (but not 7200 rpm). So incredibly versatile all in one package, and with the SSD as well, it boots up and resumes super fast. Almost like a Macbook :)

The negative reviews about the wireless problem gave me pause, but I bought the laptop anyway, and sure enough it dropped wireless connections like crazy. OK, I thought, I'll go on Samsung's website, then Intel's and get the latest driver for the Intel Centrino Advanced N6235 wireless adaptor. The version installed in my laptop when it arrived was 15.0 and on the Samsung web site was a version 15.0.0.75. On the Intel website, I could find 15.1.1, in the obvious place, and by searching on Google, I was able to find 15.2. This was in the right place on the Intel website, but under Windows 7, not Windows 7 (64 bit). The link for the Windows 7 drivers for this adaptor contains both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. You can also install the Intel/PROSET program that can analyze your wireless behavior and provide diagnostics. But it did not help me yet.

None worked or solved the problem.

I was nearly on the point of returning it, when a friendly technician suggested that I first uninstall the driver already there, and then install the latest version. In other words, installing a new driver does not first uninstall the old, dysfunctional driver, and bits of that get left behind and mess with the new driver. So I uninstalled the old driver first (go to Device Manager and look at the properties of the wireless adaptor for the button that does the uninstall), installed 15.2, and that did the trick. Now the wireless is stable and works well. (BUT THE PROBLEM RETURNED AND WAS ULTIMATELY SOLVED BY GETTING A REPLACEMENT: I THINK IT WAS A HARDWARE ERROR ON THE INTEL WIFI CHIP, AS THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CHIP FROM USERS WITH OTHER MAKES OF COMPUTER).

Overall, this laptop is just great. I'm glad that I was able to solve the problem, and find it a perfect lightweight all-in-one laptop.

This is an initial review after only a few days of use, but I figured I should review now while a lot of the troubleshooting issues are fresh in my mind. Many of the negative reviews on here are justified, because the computer as shipped did not have full functionality. I ordered a usedlike new model from Amazon warehouse deals (Windows 7 version), so this review may not be applicable to all new models shipped. However, if you have similar issues with your new model, the fixes suggested in this review should work.

First, the good:

-sleek

-light-weight

-fairly fast for most common uses like internet browsing, watching streaming movies, microsoft Office Applications, etc.

-quiet key board (but not back-lit as many have pointed out)

-Large track pad (I consider this a plus, but if you tend to type with your wrists resting below the keyboard rather than hovering above it, then you may have issues with you wrists moving the mouse or clicking it which several other reviewers have complained about)

The Mediocre:

-The screen resolution and size make it somewhat inappropriate for graphic design applications. It is a matte screen rather than a glossy screen. While that may sound great, one of the consequences is that the screen must be positioned exactly perpendicular to the viewer or else the colors will fade or darken when the screen is viewed at an angle.

-I don't think any gamers would gravitate to this PC given the specs and the screen size, but just to quell any possible suspicion no, it's not ideal for gamers.

The Bad, or the Trouble shooting fixes:

-The touchpad worked when it arrived, however it did not have multi-touch enabled (two finger scrolling, zoom in/out), nor was there a way in the control setting to enable multi-touch. This took a while to fix, but my pain is your gain. If you google Samsung series 5 trackpad driver, and go to the link from the Samsung official website, then you can download and install a new driver. Then go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sound > Mouse Properties > TouchPad > Options and modify settings for multitouch as desired. Actually, try to go there first if you have that issue, and if you can't get there then update the driver.

-Not all of the function keys worked. This was another software issue, and so fairly easy to fix. If you go to the start menu and go to the Samsung folder, you may find a program called SW Update. If you don't find that program, you can download it from the Samsung Website. That program has a lot of the necessary updates (as well as some bloatware that you may want to avoid). Updating "Easy Settings" software made all the Function keys fully functional. Also, it's not a bad idea to update anything else that looks essential, like "System BIOS", Windows Patches, and other drivers.

-Wonky WiFi I just experienced this once. The WiFi was turned off after starting up the PC, and turning it on wasn't working. Samsung has this "Quick boot" and "Fast Start" software installed, which is supposed to make start up faster. I turned that off, thinking that these processes may be cutting too many corners, and the WiFi worked again upon restart. Using typical Windows "Sleep" mode for quick shut down and start up is fast enough for me anyway. I can't say for certain that "Fast Start" is the problem, but the WiFi has been fine since turning it off.

I'm pretty happy with this purchase now that everything seems to be running smoothly. I'll update if anything changes. I will say that if I had paid the full new price of ~$900 for this laptop, I would probably not be as happy dealing with these issues and may have given it a lower rating, but for $500 on a refurbished unit, I expected it to some extent.

Want Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US 14-Inch Ultrabook (Light Titan) Discount?

I decided on the Samsung Series 5 after about 3 months of research and watching prices rise and fall on Amazon. Since I travel internationally and needed a new computer for my job, I wanted something light but fast and functional. I started looking at true Ultrabooks but decided I could sacrifice a little thinness and a solid state drive for more storage, a CDROM drive, and VGA connection. As a teacher, I use the VGA connection and CDROM frequently, so I wasn't interested in carrying a dongle around with me everywhere. In summary, this Samsung has everything I was looking for.

I've had this computer for about three weeks and I've had no problems with it. I owned a four year old Dell previously so the new i5 processor was surprisingly fast for me. Boot-up takes almost no time at all and the computer is able to multitask with ease. It runs the new Diablo III without any problems. The fan is quiet and rarely comes on. I can get about 4 hours of battery with constant internet use. The construction feels solid and I like the brushed metal body and matte screen. I haven't had any problems with the touch pad and the keyboard is different from my old Dell so it's taking some time to get used to the much shallower keys. It's also very light compared to my old Dell and I can easily carry it around with me without becoming uncomfortable.

I recommend this Samsung for anyone looking for something fast, functional, and light without wanting to sacrifice storage or a CDROM drive.

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5274 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Black)

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5274 15.6-Inch LED LaptopI purchased this laptop 6/30. I received and un-boxed it 7/5. It is well-equipped for the price.

Positives

-The 2nd Gen Core-i5 has excellent benchmarks, comparable and even better than some 1st Gen Core-i7. (See Passmark Benchmark ratings)

-The video card puts out 1080p video without issue. It is not really capable of doing any gaming but that is to be expected at this price from the Intel HD 3000.

-For the price point the theoretical specs are fabulous, hence my purchase and excitement upon arrival.

-It comes with a full size keyboard built in which I enjoy. The sizing and spacing is all acceptable although the backspace is a touch smaller than I would like.

As far as negatives are concerned,

-The webcam is horrendous, I mean, it works, but the resolution and video quality is pretty shameful. I knew this going into the purchase and was willing to accept it, but if you are hoping for a decent integrated webcam this is not a computer for you. Of course you can always get a very high quality external webcam which will best any internal.

-Toshiba Bloatware, I haven't fully investigated them, but a lot of them are redundant to services that windows provides, or just excessive little power hungry toys. Thus far I do actually like the extra power settings, but that is the only one among many.

-Other Bloatware (Extra links to install trial programs...etc)

Now, the reason for 1-star.

The laptop I received on 7/5 was defective. The audio card integrated on the motherboard was deemed defective by Toshiba. Of course Toshiba customer support made me re-install the driver, and "revert to factory settings". I found this excessively annoying as I has just opened the box and reverting to factory settings wouldn't do anything. Regardless the problem remained and they agreed it was defective and told me I could send it to a repair facility (a brand new laptop? and wait a few weeks, i think not). Or Amazon could send me a new one. I have had better dealings with Amazon than Toshiba so I opted for a replacement. Props to Amazon for the prompt replacement (it arrived within 24 hours). Now, believe it or not, the 2nd laptop is also defective. I then had to call Toshiba again to inform them of this. They didn't seem to find it odd that two of the exact same computers are both defective. Anyway Amazon is refunding me the money and I intend to get something else. Preferably not Toshiba despite my previously high impressions of them.

I would be interested to know if anyone else is having these issues. For anyone who may be skeptical as to the fact that two computers are both defective let me assure you sound was tested with several samples of audio from the HD, and the internet. It was also tested on both computers using the laptop speakers, Sennheiser Headphones, and a high quality system with Polk Audio speakers.

Bottom Line:

The specs are great, but I cannot recommend a computer that has come defective 2/2 times. Once is acceptable, it happens, but twice is not acceptable and both Amazon and Toshiba should be ashamed to be selling faulty merchandise repeatedly.

[UPDATE]

After receiving a third defective laptop I have ordered a Lenovo from Best Buy. I cannot fathom that nobody else is having this issue. This has been tested on numerous receivers, numerous cords, numerous speakers. I have had friends with me to verify that I am in fact not going insane, and Toshiba has verified they are all defective. The error occurs upon setup without changing factory settings at all.

Stay away.

In other news the touchpad is definitely a little far to the left and while typing I often touch it with my left palm. Minor issue though.

Bear with me here folks, I'm still trying to pull together my thoughts on my brand new laptop here, consider my review a "first draft". :)

Received this laptop early this morning. My first impression is pretty good, but I've only been with it for a few hours thus far. I've surfed around online some, streamed some HD video, played a couple games, and removed a ton of bloatware.

Was a little worried at first, because the first boot-up took quite awhile, but once I removed some bloatware, shut down, and booted up again, it's ready to go within 20-30 seconds. After running it for 2 hours straight, mostly surfing around online, it's not hot enough to even call it warm, so it should be good about keeping cool. The fan seems to come on pretty often, but it's not very loud, it's mostly just the sound of air moving in and out. Wireless internet seems to work perfectly, and I easily connected to my network.

I actually quite like the touchpad on it, which is strange for me to say, because I'm picky about touchpads. I think it works well, and it's slightly textured, but not overly so. The keyboard seems nicely built for a laptop too.

I don't own much in the name of games, but I've played some Sim City 4 and The Sims 2 on high settings without any hiccups. HD video streamed smoothly as well.

Overall, I'm quite happy with my purchase. I'll be updating this review once I spend more time with it and finish getting my thoughts together.

Edit: Okay, so I never updated my review, too lazy to do it. However, it is now February 3rd 2012, and this computer is still up and running like new. I've owned it for 7 months and I have had no problems, even though I run it about 7 hours everyday. It continues to run cool, fast, and with no issues at all.

Buy Toshiba Satellite P755-S5274 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Black) Now

This is my first laptop, and even though I've only had it for 9 days, I believe I've drawn a conclusion already.

Pros: 6gb ram and huge 640gb hard drive

Extremely smooth Youtube video playback

USB 3, Bluetooth 3, Wireless B/G/N, HDMI and VGA out

Quiet

Great battery life (in my opinion?)

The "chiclet" style keyboard is incredibly easy and satisfying to type on. The keys give off a satisfying light click, and they're far enough away from eachother so I rarely hit another key.

I have never seen an HD Youtube video play back so smooth before, not even on my desktop with an Nvidia Geforce GTS 250.

Speaking of video performance, Minecraft plays as smooth as my desktop plays it. I have not played other games, but DO NOT buy this laptop for gaming; you'll likely regret it.

It takes 22 seconds from power on (with the BIOS option "Load BIOS onto harddisk" checked), until you get a usable Windows 7 login screen.

The laptop has quite a few ports and features including: USB 2 and 3, Bluetooth 3, Wireless B/G/N, and HDMI and VGA out. Very handy to have and use all of them.

Internet browsing is far from slow, it feels much faster than my desktop.

You can only hear the fan occasionally speed up, if you strain to hear it in a quiet room.

Battery life is awesome, I was able to type an entire 725 word essay from start to finish with 10% left.(3 hours at least, maybe 4. I lost track of time)

Speedfan claims both cores are idling at 109f, but you can hardly feel any warmth from the laptop even after several hours of use.

Display is glossy, vivid and bright. Some may see it being glossy as a con; it's fine indoors, but tough to use outside (I never use it outside).

The numpad is an awesome feature to include, it was one of my main requirements in a laptop.

Windows 7 makes everything feel instant and responsive.

I've never run out of ram with the included 6gb.

Now onto the bad stuff (Minor whining on my part)

Cons: Keyboard is not backlit

Off center touchpad location interferes with typing

Dust magnet

Bloatware madness

Speakers suck(ish)

This laptop has doesn't have backlit keys, not a con if you know how to type; I just always thought they looked cool at night.

Regularly while typing, my hand rests on the touchpad and jumps the mouse around as another reviewer also mentioned. Annoying at times, just reposition your left hand slightly.

Needs to be wiped off daily or it grows a beard of dust. (Or maybe I just need to vacuum my room more than once a year)

Copious amounts of bloatware -some bundled with drivers. Google a program before deleting to make sure you don't inadvertently kill flashcards or the touchpad.(Happened to me)

Extremely slow until you kill off bloatware and stuff you don't plan on using.

As another reviewer stated, I have had the laptop claim it had an hour of battery life left, then 5 minutes later, it shut off. I remember reading through the Toshiba manual, and apparently it has to kind of "calibrate" the battery meter and run itself down once in a while to be accurate; I am guessing this applies to the first cycle especially. It has not done this since.

Speakers are clear, but severely lack bass. Using skullcandy earphones remedies that problem.

The bright Satellite letters and line above the touchpad can be turned off in the BIOS. I believe another reviewer said that already.

I am not a picky person, so these cons don't annoy me enough to be worth subtracting a star. The bottom line is that this is an awesome laptop for everything except gaming. (After you get over the minor quirks.)

I've had this laptop for about two weeks and I love it. It's fast and loaded with a lot of useful features. Multi-tasking, installing programs, removing crapware and transferring data onto this machine have been a quick breeze.

I love the keyboard and number pad. They both have a normal set-up so you don't have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out where a certain button has been misplaced (an issue I've had previous laptops/netbooks I've owned and other models I've tried out in stores). Keys are pretty easy on the fingers and feel nice to the touch. Keyboard is NOT backlit as far as I can tell but it wasn't an important feature for me so no minus marks there.

Screen is crisp and has good contrast; it's not washed out like a lot of laptop screens I've come across in my research. It's viewable from almost any angle so it doesn't need to be at an exact precise angle for you to see the screen well-lit.

Speakers can go pretty loud for laptop speakers. They aren't the best speaker quality but pretty darn good for a laptop.

Unlike previous laptops I've had, this one runs pretty cool. Haven't had an issue with heat at all (even when I've absentmindedly left it running on top of the bed or on carpet). I do feel heat being pushed out by the fan but the system itself remains pretty cool to the touch (ie you won't burn your lap if it's resting on your leg and you'll probably have no need for a laptop cooler fan).

Other people have commented on the placement of the touchpad. This was a concern for me before I purchased it but it turns out that I rarely have an issue with it. Once in a while the touchpad does act up while I'm typing but in comparison to a lot of other models I've tried out it's a pretty minor problem. The touchpad on/off key is conveniently located near the touchpad so it can be switched off right away if you need to do some heavy-duty typing.

Laptop has a high-quality plastic feel (yes, it's plastic). No flexing in the keyboard or case; feels very sturdy. The grooved design all over the laptop is a nice touch that prevents fingerprint smudges.

An added bonus is the free Xbox for students. I haven't received the xbox credit yet. I'v contacted Amazon and they swiftly replied that the xbox credit is on it's way so we'll see how that goes.

It took me a while to decide on buying this laptop since I couldn't find the exact model in any brick and mortar store to try out personally. You can't go wrong with the specs but I would recommend going to an electronic store and trying out similar Toshiba models to see if you like the configuration of the keyboard, touchpad, etc since those are all based on personal preference. I think I tried out P755-S5215 at Best Buy; it has nearly an identical appearance. For the price the specs on this machine are great. No regrets so far, very happy customer.

I replaced an 8 year old Satellite with this computer. This new computer is very quick, keyboard keys have a nice touch. Fairly quite, lightweight and solid feeling. Windows 7 seems to be pretty good.

I find that the dolby advanced audio is not good and distorts music, try turning it off to make your music sound good. Also when you plug your speaker line into the headphone jack, select the headphone option, otherwise the line-in option also takes away from the music.

I was afraid that off center keyboard would be awkward and it is. Maybe I will get used to it. There is very little room for the left palm to rest on the computer and frequently inadvertently touches the mouse pad causing the mouse to do things I don't want it to do.

I chose toshiba again because my previous satellite served me near flawlessly (replaced hard drive once)for 8 years.

Dell XPS 14Z X14z-2308ELS 14-Inch Laptop (Elemental Silver)

Dell XPS 14Z X14z-2308ELS 14-Inch LaptopHave been using this system for a couple of weeks now and love it. Great compact design, very thin for a system with a optical drive, and the keyboard is excellent.

Pros Elegant design, slim body, great keyboard + trackpad, Intel architecture, and Dell warranty.

Cons Dell bloatware. I would prefer to see Dell load very clean installs instead of some of the useless software they will load to collect bounties.

We purchased this item for a Christmas gift in Nov 2011 and gave it to my 18 year old son Christmas Day. Since then, we have had 4 major repairs (cursar pad, wifi connection antenea, 2 hard drives!!!!) Warrenty (that I paid extra to get )has been great tech always repairs product but really ...4 major outages. Last one while my son was in the middle of a major college project. All data not backed up was lost. Arghhhhh.

Lets see if Dell makes good on their promise to look into this computer. Could we have a lemon?????

I was looking for a compact and light laptop that I can easily carry around with me and that is capable of handling graphics heavy programs, as I am a graphic designer. Price was also a big consideration. After researching many computers with NVIDIA graphics cards and intel i7 processor like this one, I discovered that besides for being absolutely gorgeous, this computer is the cheapest in its class of light and thin computers that are capable of handling a little more than microsoft office. I have to admit, the looks of this computer definitely appealed to me and may have affected my decision when buying this computer... But i have had it now for about a month and so far I have no complaints.

This is the sleekest, coolest best looking dell laptop I have ever seen. I've owned it now for several weeks (purchased through Costco, not Amazon, for slightly more $). The specs are good. 8GB Ram, 750GB Hdd, i7core, dual core processor with hyperthreading, and a high-end clock rate during burst mode. The screen is fantastic, many more lumans brighter than my other dell laptop (an old m65).

Now why did I pick this PC? Because it is as close to looking like a macbook pro without being a mac. My personal preference for any laptop, is to immediately wipe the OS and put Ubuntu on it. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 with kde-plasma-desktop installed; this computer is behaving like a dream.

A quick comment on the device. It has more holes (aka vents) in it than I would like, but the engineer in me knows that this is Dell Trying to make sure the PC lasts a long time (good ventilation and heat dissipation are crucial). My Wife's Macbook Pro LAPTOP overheats often, sometimes too hot to put in her LAP. My other complaint is that while the laptop screen is well aligned with the base and clearly well attached, I can see that it is mounted .5mm (check a ruler if you can't envision how small that is) further to the right, than to the left. This extremely anal way of looking at the top when closed speaks to why I bought the PC to begin with: I wanted a precision cut and designed metal housing.

I am still giving this 5 stars, because I want Dell and the world to know that there is a class of people out there, who want precision crafted PCs like this, but don't want the inane constraints and cost-overages of a Mac.

This is the best Dell I have ever owned (and I have owned more than 5). It is a combination of beauty and performance and I just love it. The only things I wished it had were a VGA output (it limits the projectors I can use, but it is common with Dell to be like that) and an easily replaceable battery, but that is not too much to worry about.

HP ENVY 14-2050SE 14.5-Inch Beats Edition Notebook (Black)

HP ENVY 14-2050SE 14.5-Inch Beats Edition NotebookAll the computers I own are HPs. My older ones have always had fairly poor design materials and have notoriously overheated. When I purchased this laptop I was nervous about these common HP problems as well as the harsh review given over the quality of the screen. When I opened this laptop, however, I was blown away by the quality of packaging as well as the breathtaking aesthetics of the laptop itself. Tentatively I turned on the computer (as I prepared for the worst), but, to my surprise, I was greeted with a screen that easily displayed vibrant colors and looked just about as good as any 14" laptop would. Apple is a bit ahead on the screens and batteries they use, but this laptop has a perfectly fine display and a fantastic battery life. I copied vast amounts of music and videos from an external drive while installing various programs (such as visual studio which took about an hour to install) and this laptop completed all those operations while living up to a battery life of about 4 hours (I imagine the battery life is much better when the computer is simply word processing or internet browsing). Another surprise was the quality of the graphics processing in this computer. So far I have run MW2 and Fallout: New Vegas on high and ultra (respectively), and the graphics card has handled everything with ease. I do plan on giving it harder tasks to accomplish (ahem Crysis 2), but for all graphics computing within the norm of PC games I'd say this computer can definitely handle it. While running these games I also checked the amount and temperature of the air that was moving out of the vents and once again I was surprised at how cool it was. Another plus is the notable lack of vents on the bottom of the laptop which invariably suck up dust and cause the computer to run exponentially hotter (there are two vents only: one on the right side and one in the middle of the back). The only complaint I have is the power cable which is pretty deep and kinda hard to put in and take out.

In conclusion, the i5 processor, generous RAM and VRAM, mid class 2 graphics card, secondary storage, superior sound card, slot-loading optical drive, back-lit keyboard, and overall appearance should leave any consumer satisfied and proud to own a laptop of this caliber. The xbox is also a nice plus (which you can get off amazon and hp just check the details).

Hello, this is my first review!!

First of all I will talk about the HP envy's design. its design is just really cool, it loos like a very sophisticated, elegant, and very modern laptop. Also the lid of the laptop is made out this opaque black aluminum which hides a alot scratches, but is also a fingerprint magnet, but if you clean it once in a while you won't have a problem.

Next, the most important thing for me performance.

The laptop with the i5 processor, has a very good performance,it is quick, it loads windows in a few seconds. I use it for gaming a lot, and I have had no problem playing games like Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2, Half Life 2 and other games, ALL in High quality graphics, and a 1366x768 resolution. The only bug I have with the performance is in the noise, the laptop is a little bit loud, not extremely. For example is you are at work with your laptop and there is a little noise in the office you won't hear it, but if you are at home alone, you will probably hear it. TIP: shut off the cool sense because it will lower the noise and save battery( the laptop won't get hot anyways). Something I love about it is how cool (sense of heat) it is, while gaming it doesn't even get slightly warm.

Next screen:

The screen is real glossy, but also very nice resolution, the colors are bright as hell. Also the nice is really nice for gaming, but not too big, to carry around.

Track pad and keyboard;

The track pad many people say that it is horrible, but it really isn't its just something you got to get used too. I have had this PC for almost 3 weeks and I haven't felt any difficulty on the track pad, only maybe in the first 2 or 3 uses, but then nothing. The keyboard does have a slight flex but nothing serious that you would feel.

Battery: There as myths about this PC's battery. Let me tell you, they are false, I believe Apple invented them to make people don't buy this PC. For example, yesterday I played 3 and half hours on battery with my pc hooked up to my TV with high graphics, high performance and wireless turned on, and when I stopped playing I still had 15% battery= 35min (The laptop said) but once I started instead using Facebook the PC told me that (after 15min) I had 10%= to 30min. So the battery can easily last up to 5:30 or 6 hours.\

Finally I will talk somethings in general.

Overall this laptop is really great, it has excellent performance, excellent SOUND( the beats sound is GREAT), also excellent graphics and excellent price compared to similar laptops in the market, such as the Macbookpro which is 1200 dollars the 13.3 inch, which doesn't even have a graphics card (LOL). don't think it twice and buy this laptop, Also if you might want it with an i7 processor you can get it too. The only disadvantage again is the sound, which is not much and maybe the fingerprint magnet lid. If you have any questions please don't be afraid to ask here and I will get to you.

First off I would like everyone to know that I bought this as a Macbook clone, because while I admire the aesthetics of macs I'm not a huge fan of the OS. In that it succeeds, from the bezel trim, to the smooth finish it is a close match to the real thing. With Windows 7 which I much prefer. After using the laptop for about a week I have no complaints, except for the screen, it does have a bit of glare and I wish the envys' still came with the superior radiance display instead of the cheaper Brightview. Although I wouldn't be as dramatic about it as the other guy, the black aren't grey like the other guy said. It does have a lot of glare at 60% brightness which I use by default to save battery (at 100% its barely noticeable). But is it bearable at the least.

A bit on the specs, this laptop is pretty fast, I love its large 7200 rpm HD (which copied all my music and videos in like 20 mins, which was much faster than it was when I wrote to a 5400) the i5 seems fast, with no hiccups so far. A few of my friends have suggested I go with an i7, which you as a customer might consider. However to me battery life is king with a laptop, and the fact is an i7 just takes up more juice period. However if you want more of a complete desktop replacement, and want to be plugged in all the time def go with the i7.

In closing I love this laptop, except for the grounded charger cable I almost forgot that LOL, it's prolly just a problem for me because my house only has a couple 3 prong outlets. (Grounded = 3 prong, 2 prong is what I thought was the norm but I guess not for HP)

Also the complaints from past models seem to be fixed, i.e. the trackpad, it works just as good as a mac if not better for me, it might be because I'm used to touch phones and such idk.

Edit: I would just like to add a few things, First the battery life is awesome, I use it maybe an hour or two a day and charge it only a few times a week. Another added bonus which wasn't even advertised was the inclusion of adobe elements,(consumer level) such as photoshop elements and premiere elements. These retail for $150, and are awesome, especially since they beat out mac software such as imovie.

This laptop is great. At first I thought I would be paying for the beats logo, but that was not the case at all. Besides from being very stylish and cool looking this computer has very good hardware. The beats audio makes the laptop have good sound (Although I will admit I expected a little more from the speakers in the laptop, but with an okay pair of headphones it sounds pretty boss). The keys are really nice and easy to use. The touch pad is also nice easy to use and it has a feature were you can lock the touch pad. The laptop itself run very well it doesn't come with any BS already installed programs. It comes with photoshop elements which is a cool bonus. and the webcam is great one of the nicest I've seen on a laptop. Overall this laptop is great for the price. You really get your moneys worth from this and off of Amazon is the cheapest I found it at.

It's not the same thing I was expecting for, to tell the true I was expecting much more ,even something unreal, from the appearance. But totally It's very good machine. It's fast enough for gaming, good clean sound... The screen is good enough... Anyway I was not disappointed that I've got it.

I use it for basic stuff: email, internetj/research, download music and that is pretty much it. I don't game at all. This is my first laptop and you need to understand that my old computer (6 years old) was a Pentium 4, 80G HD, 512 Ram. I've had this ACER for a month now and I am more than pleased with its performance. Speed is great. Screen is great. Keyboard is great (I never have to worry about my wrists accidently hitting the house pad), mouse pad is great. I haven't tried the webcam yet. Speakers are weak but I don't use my computer to listen to music. I bought this laptop for $379.00 with free shipping in early February. Too cheap. I wonder how much the workers in Asia are being paid to make them??? :(

This is my second Acer Laptop, my previous laptop was good but this one is great. I just use my laptop when I am traveling, it has WiFi, keyboard has a very good ease of use and the 15 in screen is wide enough that I can watch movies and work without any eye strain, battery life is good at least 3.5 hours. I would recommend this to anyone who needs a good inexpensive system.

I would suggest purchasing items from this vendor, the computer came to my house really fast. I wasn't suppose to recewive it until January and I received it right before Christmas, I was suprised and happy.

I bought this for a friend. He absolutely loves it. He said its the nicest he has seen in awhile. Even though it has only 2 gb memory, it is fine. It will be used for college, anyway. He has been on it for the past 5 days, and says it is everything he wanted, and more. If he finds it to last thru the fall, and he gets a great use of it, I am going to order one, too. Hey, I might even order one for my sister, she's retired but one would be beneficial for her.

HP 615443-001 BASE ENCLOSURE ALUMWhat do you want me say about it?

awesome~~~oh my god~~~It is incredible fit my laptop~~

Of course, it would fits my laptop HP Pavilion dv7-4191nr . it made by HP and for this model.

HP sold it too expensive over USD $100; especially, on a faded out model.

If anyone who worked in a Injection molding company, he/she would know the material cost per piece......under USD $10.

Anyway, they cost down after I purchased it. This is really suck.

Searched everywhere to find a replacement base for a HP DV7-4165dx that had a broken hinge and couldn't find anything. Until i came around this. Mike was very helpful with the purchase and would definitely do business with him again. The part is an OEM replacement part so the quality is perfect.

Asus TAICHI 21 Black Notebook Computer

Asus TAICHI 21 Black Notebook ComputerAs always Asus does it again. This is so amazing. I would recommend this company to buy it from and as the product is always the best and the warranty can not be matched or beat. It doubles, its a laptop, no wait, its a tablet, no wait, its both. It is a must for business oriented or trainers or for just using it daily use. It covers everyone. Did I mention. I love Asus. It is very fast. Easily connect via Wi-Fi or with the included Ethernet connector. Running windows 8. Two partitions which are extremely hard to even fill up one. Included also is the mini hdmi to hdmi. The included touch pen doubles as a two button mouse. Two year warranty is excellent. The first year anything accidental is covered(liquid, shock, fire or drops). The second year is the normal parts and labor being covered. There is so many things that are truly amazing with this product that I would run out of room if I continue I will run out of space. All I can say is buy it. You will not regret it.

Toshiba Qosmio X875-Q7190 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black Widow Styling in Diamond-Textured Aluminum)

Toshiba Qosmio X875-Q7190 17.3-Inch LaptopLove this laptop, lots of cool and handy features, such as sleep & charge and sleep & music and runs all my programs fast and to a high quality.

The screen and sound quality is also amazing, I have yet to need to use the sound output above 50%, just to show how loud the sound can go!

One issue I have had so far is that during a relatively low graphically demanding game I get a black rectangle on the floor and I have yet to find a solution to correct this issue. If it wasn't for that problem (And the fact Windows is still not to the same level as Windows 7 in my opinion) I would probably have given the laptop a five star rating.

This was my 5th Toshiba Laptop between me and my family but will definitely be my last. Bought it customized from Toshiba Direct. It worked for about a month, and failed. They directed me to take it personally to their authorized service center for fastest service. It sat for a month waiting for a part that didn't fix it and now they are waiting for a new hard drive that they estimate will take 6 WEEKS to deliver. When I called support they told me that it would be faster if I go pick it up and mail it back to them (with no commitment on what "faster" means). They offer no explanation of why it would take 6 weeks for a new hard-drive. Also the warranty continues to expire while the unit sits in their hands. (It is warranted from purchase date only)

I asked for my money back. After 2 weeks they come back with an offer of store credit to Toshiba Direct because they don't give refunds. They only want to credit the purchase price so I would need to eat about $200 in sales tax and shipping on the original and another $200 when I use my credit. They explained to me that this was a great favor as they were not depreciated the value of the computer for the one month that I was apparently honored to have it work for me.

So the only choice I get from Toshiba are take a credit and get another Toshiba craptop eating the shipping and tax charges 2 twice or wait until they fix the one I have with no guarantee of how long it will take while my warranty ticks away.

Here are some other fun facts they won't give me anything in writing about my options won't send me an email. You also can't send them emails. Strikes me a little odd a computer company won't take an email. Nothing in writing appears to be their policy.

I am a super-geek. I want a laptop with a big screen, big memory capacity and the ability to have 2 hard drives. The memory capacity of this laptop is 32GB which is really nice! Also, you can have 2 hard drives in this baby! I think the memory on the video is 2GB? I'm sold. The only question left is how easy it it to install Windows 7/8 and have the drivers ready to go without hassle. Also It is very important how easy it is to upgrade the hardware on this model (increase memory, change hard drives). I'm still researching but if the answer to the questions I have are "Yes, the drivers are easy to install and Yes, the hardware is easy to upgrade them i'm going to get 2 of these....*Update: (1 hour later) I downloaded the User Guide for this model to find out more about the 2nd Hard drive installation and it was no help AT ALL. I called Toshiba and the guy on the phone told me that I would have to take the Laptop to a dealer/repair shop to install the 2nd hard drive. I told him that I am a tech and that it should not be that hard to add a 2nd drive. Also, my decision to purchase this laptop is based on how easy it is to upgrade... He gave me this site link: [link removed by Amazon? search for Qosmio Hard Drive upgrade] and WOW! This laptop has now become a dream come true! The images show you how easy this laptop is to upgrade (if you already know how to upgrade laptops) I am supersold on this and will buy two of them when they become available. I won't be able to report on how easy the drivers are to install until I get them. *Update: June 6, 2013: I got the Qosmio 875-Q7190 and it is still me dream laptop BUT #1 CD/DVD Discs don't cost much these days When I spend this much on something I want EVERYTHING that comes with it, especially all of the software. I shouldn't have to read a manual or search the internet to find out that I need to make my own discs from the laptop; and "restore" discs at that! Shame on any company that won't spend $1 or $2 to make sure their PC/laptop is shipped with all the discs. # 2 the power connection to this laptop is not sturdy there should be a latch or something I am a tech and I have worked on some Toshiba laptops and I was not impressed by how flimsy the power cable connects to the units I will send a note to toshiba about this this laptop is NOT Far from perfection. #3 There is NO HARD DRIVE LED on the unit.. can you believe this ?! I wonder who made that decision? Hard drive leds hve been a standard since 1985, and that fact that it is missing on this unit is NOT an improvement. #4 and the worst part: Windows 8 was pre-installed I had no choice Well guess what? There is no flexibility here for me, Windows 8 is just a re-masked, more cumbersome version of Windows 7. Also I CAN'T USE THIS COPY OF WINDOWS 8 ON ANY OTHER PC EVER. So I purchased Windows 8, but I got the "OEM" version so I can't delete it from this laptop and use it somewhere else. BUT...If I purchased Windows 8 in a store i could do that. Do I feel cheated?.. Ya Think? Also, no Windows 8 serial.. If I upgrade to Windows 8 Pro do I have to call someone to get it? Hmmmm...I still love this hardware but I hate it when companies do things on the cheap Sorry Toshiba, but not including the software discs makes you cheap. Lack of the HD LED is a design mistake. If Toshiba had done any market testing with this design I think that everyone who gave a review would write "Where is the Hard drive light?" Love ya Toshiba but you still have some work to do. This product is so close to perfection....

I'd like to start off this review by saying that I previously have only owned Dell laptops of off the shelf quality (no gaming specs). This is the first gaming laptop I have purchased, and so far it has met or exceeded my expectations, for a laptop. Games run well on it, even at full configs, and the graphics are nice, overall just a good experience. My only two minor issues with it are Windows 8 and that it runs hot when you play a demanding game. Windows 8, definitely seems designed for touch pads and I do not know why they didn't redesign a version for a "normal" pc (non-touch). But that's not the product's fault, that's on MS. The issue with running hot is really not a big deal, it is just because of the fan's exhaust being pointed out to where your right hand would be holding a mouse, it can get warm. I was able to mitigate this greatly by purchasing one of those laptop fan desk things.

So my recommendations for this are experiement with Windows 8, or reformat to an older OS and purchase an external fan for the laptop. All in all, I would recommend this laptop to someone on a lower budget that maybe cannot afford a high end model.

I've had two or three HP laptops in the past which I loved but they ran very hot. So far this Toshiba runs cool and fast. The only things I don't really care for are the textured aluminum case.... it seems to collect dust and crumbs, etc, more easily than a smooth aluminum case .... and its weight. It seems heavier than my last HP which was the same size. This is not a convenient laptop for traveling, although I do take it with me, but it is heavy and bulky to carry around. It is a great laptop replacement! The other problems I'm having are Windows 8 related. Windows 8 is really designed for touch-pad computers...I wish I had known that . I may have looked into getting a touch-pad laptop instead.

Sony VAIO VGN-NW120J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver

Sony VAIO VGN-NW120J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - SilverThis is a nice looking laptop and I like the design.

As for speed and performance, it's a lot faster than my old Dell so no complaints.

I'm motivated to review the touchpad here because to be honest it's driving me crazy. It's not a smooth touchpad you'll see from the photos that there is a slight texturing to it. I didn't think it would be a problem but my fingertips no matter how light or hard I press don't move smoothly over it in any direction but downwards. They catch and start-stop. It's so frustrating I went back to the dealer and we tried cutting a plastic iPhone cover down to size and affixing it over the touchpad but it didn't stick very well. Sadly I'm contemplating returning it which would be such a shame.

I don't mind using a USB mouse but still I encourage anyone thinking of going with this particular design to really give the touchpad a try. Maybe it's just me, but ... ugh.

Nice product in a very good value. My only disappointment was the battery duration. I never could get up to 5 hours as described in the product especification. Battery lasts for as much as 2 hours. Consider in your budget a long duration (6-9 cell) extra battery.

I do not like the bumpy, textured touchpad my finger catches frequently even with the lightest pressure and it is simply unpleasant to the touch, especially during long hours of use. The experience is obnoxious enough that I am considering getting rid of this laptop after only a few days!

Battery life is only ~2 hrs, not 5 as advertised.

Otherwise, the laptop is fast and attractive.

Want Sony VAIO VGN-NW120J/S 15.5-Inch Laptop - Silver Discount?

Though my Sony laptop has been dependable, I will never buy a Sony again. Sony has no automatic updates for software, hardware or drivers. They do not even have all of the Sony models listed, including the model that I own. They say that you can sign onto their site to see what if any updates might be available for your model, but if your model is not listed, then it is difficult to get to that site. Even if you do get to a comparable site, the updates that are listed tend to be generic updates that are applicable to a wide range of models. When I asked them which updates I should download, they said I should download the updates that fix any problems I am having. That is fine for serious problems because I actually know that I have them, but that advice does nothing for those subliminal problems that do not crash a program, but merely slow down the computer function. I am just a moderately savvy computer user, so Sonys might be great for the advanced computer user. Otherwise I would suggest that you look for a brand that gives better automated support if your computer knowlege ranges from limited to moderate.

Lenovo B570-1068BAU Laptop Computer / Intel Pentium Dual-Core B960 2.2GHz Processor / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 15.6-inch Widescreen Display / 320GB Hard Drive / eSATA Port / HDMI / Gigabit Ethernet / DVD±RW Double Layer / 6-Cell Battery / Black / Windows 7 Home PremiumThis laptop was my 2012 Xmas gift from my daughter. Although the laptop was delivered to my daughter by end of November I did not see it until the Christmas day. I was very excited. After using it for a couple of week I was having some trouble with the touchpad mouse in the laptop--it would constantly freeze. I called Lenovo service on January 16,2013 for assistance and after hearing a brief description of my problem i was put in touch with their software support team. Before I could talk to the tech someone from the warranty service team told me that I should consider buying their premium warranty service for $179 since only one service call was free. If in my case the problem required more than one call this premium warranty service was valid for a year. I asked if I would be able to cancel the warranty if I did not need it --I was told I could do it within 3 weeks from the date of purchase.I bought the warranty but I felt it was really a high pressure sales tactics. Their software tech team then attempted to resolve my mouse problem and even after spending a number of hours could not fix it. I was told by them to contact their hardware support team becuase they thought it was a hardware problem. Ok--I called the warranty service to cancel my warranty service and refund the money they charged my credit card well before the 3 week deadline. Here comes the twist. They said they would only refund me $90 since the software tech service charge was $89. When I said that I was told that one service call was free it was completely denied!!! A similar story for the hardware tech service--I was told that my laptop had only a basic warranty for one year. They would offer me a 3 year service for $84. I bought it and they told me they would send me an email confirming my purchase within 24 hours. I never got their emai--after about 5 days I called why I did not receive this confirmation. This time I was told that this warranty was not for 3 years--it would be for 2 years only. I gave up--asked for a refund and still waiting to be reimbursed. What an experience!

I have owned the B570-1068AJU version of this laptop for over a year. I use it primarily for email, watching Netflix, and listening to MP3's. Without getting into specific hardware specs, it has plenty of power for that. I've never tried intense gaming on it. Knock wood I've never had any problems getting the hardware to work properly. For example the web cam worked flawlessly for Google chat and the optical drive burns discs without any problems. The SD card reader is very handy for transferring pictures from a camera. This laptop isn't going to win any beauty contests but for someone like me who is interested in function over form, it doesn't matter. It's not too heavy either. I also like the included software. It allows you to log in via face recognition (keep in mind this is not highly secure). I also like the software that requires you to enter a password when inserting a USB drive. It keeps you safe from someone trying to hack your laptop with a USB drive. My only gripes are with the keyboard and mouse layout. The right handed shift key is too small and in an odd position. It frequently causes typos. Also it is nearly impossible to avoid tapping the touch pad while typing. Thankfully it can be disabled so I just use a wireless mouse. Otherwise the cursor jumping around and clicking on things like the laptop is possessed. In short I think this is an excellent laptop for someone looking to do the basics yet still have portability.

IBM THINKPAD R51 CENTRINO-735 512MB ( 18308TU )

IBM THINKPAD R51 CENTRINO-735 512MBtl;dr Get this laptop for simple tasks like word processing or checking e-mail. Not best for entertainment purposes like watching dvds, gaming, and Skype calling.

Clearly this is a cheap laptop and it's cheap for a reason. This laptop was manufactured by IBM who are famous for their Lenovo technology. Lenovo is a fairly good brand, so that's a plus.

Pros:

+ price: It costed $130 used.

+ keyboard: I freakin' love typing on this thing. It has a nice feel. Don't judge me.

Cons:

slow: It has a 1.6 GHz processor. What do you expect. It takes a while to start up and is kind of slow switching between tabs in Google Chrome depending on the level of content on a page and the number of tabs you have up.

clunky: This thing weighs about 11 pounds. The design is old looking & clunky. if you feel embarrassed using a dinosaur-looking machine, either don't use it in public or don't buy it. Haha.

I got this laptop because I just needed a device to type my papers for my silly ENC1102 class. The reason why I got a laptop instead of a netbook was because of price and the laptop had a more comfortable viewing & typing size. I occasionally roam around Youtube, but its speed is fine. It may be a bit laggy at times if you're watching a DVD.

Overall, this is a decent laptop for simple computing. Works best for word processing... anything productive. It fits all my needs for school. That's all I got it for.

Was advertised as 160 GB hard drive and 512 MB RAM, unit received had 40 GB drive and 768 MB RAM. Otherwise, it's working fine.

This is a sturdy laptop. After 6 months of struggling with the quirks of having Microsoft 7 Pro Plus not fully meshed with the physical aspects of the computer's capabilities, and then having to buy a battery, which was kind of expected...Microsoft then tells me my version of their programs are not registered. The number that was on the program as the key code when I first got the laptop are not a product code, not a key, not anything that matches the requirements. So I contacted the rebuilders I ordered from...they say they will get with me...three times we make email contact, and no getting with me. Either the programs were a trial version installed just to sell the laptop, (does that explain the numbers passed off as the key code?), or the program was an upgrade from XP or something...but either way I ended up with no programs and no help from this seller to rectify the problem!

The track pad is also very nice just like the one you see on Macbook, you can use two fingers to swipe the web page up and down and four fingers to trigger background apps/programs.

It also comes with Windows 8. Win 8 is very handy to use, love the Metro interference.

Sound quality is great, it's loud and clear.

One thing tough, becasause it's black color, finger prints are easily shown.

It doesn't come with an optical drive but that is as advertised and doesn't bother me any way. (External optical drives can be as cheap as $10) Machine stays very cool even when I played a decent sized game on it for a couple hours! Bought originally for work and school and it has made me life 10x easier. I have and will continue to recommend to friends and family! Great buy!

The Asus X501A works very well. Starting Windows 8 is really fast (but I have to say I don't like at all). Its very light weith and includes Numeric Keyboard. The screen shows greatest images, and sounds really good. The batery charged works 6 hours or more.

Also I have to write, this notebook doesn't generate heat, works really fresh and practically quiet.

Considering price, its a great great deal.

Gateway NE56R47u Notebook NE56R47UThe computer is overall a decent and good computer. For the price it is a great sized screen and fast machine. I mostly got this to check email, basic graphics editing, skype, word processing, and web browsing.

At this time haven't had any issues. The only thing keeping me from a five star rating is it is still pretty heavy for portability. Five star for home use.

ASUS Laptop Intel Core i3 370M 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 5000GB HDD, DVRW, 15.6", Windows 7 Home Premium 64

ASUS Laptop Intel Core i3 370M 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 5000GB HDD, DVRW, 15.6', Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, WIMAX, BlackI bought this computer as a floor model from Best Buy almost 6 months ago for $459 and I have to say I've got no major complaints. I primarily bought this for web browsing, Microsoft Office, editing photos in Picasa and my iTunes library. I have had 30 windows open, run iTunes in the background and was typing a document and it could handle it all without lag. I have even run Adobe Photoshop CS3 and it does alright as long as the projects aren't too complicated. I did try the photomerge function (in Photoshop CS3) with 20 photos and then the program finally choked. All in all, if you're looking for web browsing, streaming netflix, a computer for your iTunes library and some basic photo editing with Picasa then this is a pretty darn good computer for the value. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or graphics work. Also, the speakers are pretty quiet so you'll definitely need to invest in some speakers. I picked up a pair of compact USB Insignia speakers so I can travel with them and they work a charm! I would definitely recommend this computer to someone.

I bought this computer for myself from best buy and was very satisfied with all the features,it's speed and ease of use. The only problem(which was a major prob at the time)was every time I was using it and closed the computer(which would normally put it in sleep mode)it would make a VERY LOUD siren like sound. I, nor my computer programmer coworker could figure out what was the problem. I ended up taking it back and exchanging it for the model higher once the store reps could not figure it out either. Low and behold it continued to happen with the new computer as well. I was just about to write ALL Asus computers when I accidentally found the issue. Go into the sound settings and lower the mic playback volume and it will fix the whole issue permanently. Whew....I wish that was in the instruction manual but oh well. Other than that, two thumbs and a toe up for this computer. I just bought one for my nieces birthday.

I have always been a fan of ASUS. I own the G51JX-A1 laptop for gaming purposes, but this was not a very practical laptop for transportation. I wanted to stick with ASUS and find a cheap, reliable laptop to carry around with me, so I decided to purchase this product. I was very disappointed.

The specs were great; an i3 processor running at 2.4GHz, 4GB of DDR3 Ram, 500GB HD, a descent sized screen at 15.6", and W7. Fantastic. Price was good, yet it was a refurbished laptop. I generally stay away from anything that is used/refurbished, but I decided to give this a shot. I regretted it. The computer would have a freeze attack every 5 seconds or less. There was not a moment in which I could even move my mouse cursur from the desktop to the start button without the computer freezing. I updated all of the drivers and this did not help the issue at all.

I gave the product two stars because of the easy return. I got a full refund with shipping paid for. However, the product itself was terrible.

HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch Laptop

HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch LaptopCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program The two previous reviewers have given outstanding reviews on all the techie specs of this HP Envy Laptop. As such, I fear my average-plain-jane-user review is going to pale in comparison but hopefully it'll be helpful to those like me who use laptops but don't get into the nitty-gritty of the electronic.

Ok, so here goes -

I've always like the style and sleekness of HP laptops so it's no surprise that I love this one as well. It's beautifully designed with a smooth black surface that's fingerprint resistant which I love with children in the house!

Relatively lightweight, although still a bit hefty if compared to the ultrabooks or the like.

The colors exhibited in this model are just OUTSTANDING! So bright, crisp, and clear. Absolutely fan-flippin'-tastic for photos, videos, and graphics. Even Skype is more vivid with this laptop!

But then comes the Windows 8...

Allow me to confess right up front that I am not a fan of change, especially if something is working just fine, so I will be a bit jaded in this area. But, in my opinion, Windows 8 is basically a laptop with apps. While I love apps, ON MY PHONE or IPAD, I care nada for them on my computer. Not yet anyway. I spent hours trying to familiarize myself with the app system here and came to the conclusion that I do not like Windows 8. Give me my regular old windows button in the lower left screen that pops up all my programs by name and I'm happy. Hunting for them under an "organized" app system, no way!

In all fairness, however, my 20 year-old college son, thinks it's awesome. He says he loves the apps and thinks it organizes and simplifies things for users. So, maybe I'm just that old dog that can't learn new tricks. :)

If this computer had come with Windows 7, I would have given 5 stars easily. The laptop itself is FABULOUS! But the Windows 8 just wasn't for me.

This laptop arrived extremely fast which was great and it didn't take long to get up and running. There are some features I lovethe finger print reader is one of them, I appreciate the added security and it's easier than typing in a password. And the computer itself seems to be greatit's everything we were looking for. However, at this point I am completely unhappy with it and I think I have to blame Windows. Even in the desk top mode I struggle to find anything I need, then when I find it I have trouble using the program and often times can't even minimize or escape out of what I'm in. I think this software would be great if I were using it on a tablet, but I'm not and don't want to feel like I am, I have a tablet and iPhone for thatthis is supposed to be my computer and I want it to run like one. I'm trying hard to get used to it and learn it, but I'm frustrated now. I'll update my review if any progress is made, positive or negative, but since I find myself avoid this laptop we might be at a standstill.

However, if you're familiar and comfortable with this software I really think the laptop itself is solid. It looks great and has more bells and whistles than I need (if I could only use them!)

This is a great computer for business just because of one feature alone, the finger print reader. I like this alot, you can have it "read" any one of your 10 fingers. I suggest at least two, one on each hand in case you can't use one of the hands.

That said this is a nice laptop. The keys are easy to press and quiet. Mine luckily came with Windows 7, I had reviewed Windows 8 (W8) at a large retailer with the initials B.B. I was not impressed with W8. W8 is meant for tablets, if you aren't using a tablet or a touch screen then it's a pointless O.S. It can revert to the old W7 mode.

Right out of the box this computer looked for my Home Network Wi-Fi. Found it and set up to use it.

I own a number of laptops, I replace them fairly quickly because I don't like them for whatever reason. This one I got for business, I was unaware it contained a finger print reader for added security which is a definate plus. I got it for a new business I am starting and wanted a laptop different than the others I have. This is my second HP Laptop. I definately remind you to make a rescue/recovery CD a soon as you get it.

The sound by BEATS Audio is suberb for a laptop and of the 10 others I have this beats them all hands down. It even sounds better on the same Sharper Image headphones I was using on my Sony vaio.

I couldn't be happier with this laptop.

Ok, first off, I want to say that upon receiving the package, this laptop is extraordinarily light. When I opened up the package, I was holding a very, very elegant looking machine. It is beautiful; the brush midnight finish is one of the few laptop design cover that isn't a finger print magnet; it is awesome. So, now, lets get down to review:

The dv6 is a mediocre looking machine for specs on paper; don't let that fool you. This is a capable gaming laptop. This game runs COD4 on midsettings at 50 FPS, which is really nice, and plays Planetside 2 in midsettings at 45 FPS.

I removed a couple bloat (Such as Norton and some weird game program), and freed up startups and services on the msconfiguration via run command, and it is running very smoothly. The fingerprint scanner works flawlessly; I scanned all ten fingers and it works 18 out of 20 trials. Very nice piece of security. The screen is not bad, but I do kind of wished they had it up to like 1600 x 900 like the spec identical HP Envy dv7-7230us. The Beats audio is not bad, though I was disappointed at how quiet it is. At max volume, my phone (Droid Razr Maxx) is still louder, but the quality is fine. Now, as for Windows 8: I honestly have no idea why it is criticized so much. It is not so bad; just give 5 minutes to learn. That's all; as a matter of fact, Windows 8 is more like Windows 7.75; You can still access the original Windows 7 desktop by going to the "Desktop" tile/icon on the metro app starting screen. And if you need to access the settings, control panel, power, etc., then all you need to do point the mouse to the upper or lower right corner of the screen, and it will give you those options. I believe the reason why Windows 8 is so heavily criticized is because many, many people don't realize this, and chose to run choppy emulators online. I honestly love this laptop; if you are on a budget of less than $600, than this is a MUST buy! While there are more expensive relatives to this, this is actually pretty great for the money. Value > price. If you have any questions, please, feel free to ask them on the comments below!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I selected this laptop through an Amazon Vine offer thinking what is not to love about this laptop, but let me tell you it has beaten all my expectations. WOW! is what I kept saying after I took it out of the box and began getting to know this HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch Laptop up close and personal. Before even turning it on, anyone would notice how lightweight and gorgeous it is. The finish is brushed aluminum in Midnight Black and it is absolutely perfect as it looks great and feels sensual to my touch. All the hardware is placed perfectly for maximum enjoyment and ease of use. I've purchased other members of the HP Envy line but I must say this HP Laptop is first I would say all the other laptops must ENVY this HP dv6-7210us!

The next feature I am most impressed with is the LED screen which has amazing depth to it. I love viewing photos and videos as they look even better on this HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch Laptop than on my HDTV! This in itself is amazing as my 52" HDTV is always commented on by the different cable carriers of how my tv makes their feed look the BEST they have ever seen! Well this laptop adds even more depth and crispness to the photos and videos than that with its AMD Radeon HD 7640G Discrete-Class graphics and up to 3053MB total graphics memory! Amazing! This laptop has Beats Audio with the speakers the length of the laptop on both sides of the hinge and sound very good for any portable electronic device. Underneath the speaker screens is Beats Audio quad speakers and a subwoofer. Webcam also delivers a great video chat experience. The touchpad as well feels great to touch and use and includes the normal mouse moves including double tap, 2finger scroll, pinch or stretch to zoom, top-edge swipe to display app commands, right-edge swipe to display the charms (search, share, start, devices, and settings) and left edge swipe to switch between open apps. You can quickly return to the start screen by pressing the windows logo key on the keyboard.

HP SimplePass is a plus for me and I believe the scanner on this HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch Laptop is more durable than previous models I have owned. I set up this laptop so that when I scan my right index finger, it launches my favorite website which is Amazon! I like that I can use my fingerprints as my passwords which I believe makes my laptop more secure from prying eyes and stealing hands and just makes access easier and faster for me.

This is my first introduction to Windows 8 and of course there is a learning curve but so far I like it. I like that it is linked to my Microsoft account which means that every time I sign into a Windows 8 device, my settings and custom tweaks will come with me and be applied. Because Microsoft accounts are linked to SkyDrive storage, Office 2013 will back up automatically uploading to the cloud. Windows Media Center will not be included for free in Windows 8 but right now through January 31, 2013, you can request a free product key for it at the microsoft windows website.

FAST! FAST! FAST! Using a 2nd Gen AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M Accelerated Processor with 6GB installed memory on 750GB 5400RPM hard drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection in Windows 8 really creates a fast machine. I have the fastest boot-up experience I've ever had on a laptop or desktop. Set-up was the fastest and most intuitive I've ever had. 3 of its 4 USB ports are 3.0! USB 3.0 is capable of transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps (gigabits per second); that's a little over 10 times faster than USB 2.0's 480Mbps (1,000Mbps equals 1Gbps).

The Amazon listing currently says 2GB RAMM in one place and 6GB RAMM in another place; 6GB is how much The laptop shows in the View Basic Information About Your Computer Screen.

Every place you look on this laptop is faster and better than before. Don't let the technology advances leave you in the dust.........

If I wasn't the luckiest girl in the world to receive this HP Envy dv6 laptop through Vine, it might very well be the one I would select for myself to purchase this holiday season as I am very particular about selecting the best quality at the best price and even at the full $699MSRP, this HP Envy dv6-7210us 15.6-Inch Laptop delivers more in the fast, sleek, and sexy experience than previous laptops. I've had it only a couple of days and already it has given me more than $700USD of enjoyment, fun, and pleasure.

Thank you HP and Amazon Vine.

Have not had any issues with this laptop, it is quick and responsive. I would recommend this laptop. We do not use the machine as a gaming machine, so I can not vouch for it for games.

In January 2013 the Wi-FI stopped working correctly, it could not maintain a connection.

After installing an usb wi-fi, the internal wi-fi would try to shut the usb wi-fi down,

finally was able to turn off the interinal wi-fi so that it would stop interfering.

Have not found a solution to the internal wi-fi issue.
