ASUS A53U-ES01 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mocha)

I needed to upgrade my tech for a low cost and this fit the bill. I considered Chromebooks and netbooks which were around the same price point. At the price I paid, $350, I got a full laptop. The screen is great, I was surprised that the size of it and that the keyboard had a numeric keypad.

Very nice entry-level laptop; something I don't have buyer's remorse about. I would not hesitate to purchase another one, should the need arise.

I needed to replace my 3 yr old Acer Netbook. I thought I liked small, but the old eyes didn't agree. So when I was visiting my brother and the Acer Wifi wouldn't work, I needed to upgrade. I actually bought an HP Compaq that came to a total of $338. Then I saw this one on Amazon for $349. It had more memory and a bigger HD. PLUS it had a numeric keypad on the keyboard. So I returned the HP and ordered this ASUS. I am so glad I did. This is an excellent Laptop for the price. I burned my backup DVD's and configured my WIFI at home and it works flawlessly. I just have to learn Win 7, all my other PC's run Win XP. I will admit I based my purchase on just a few excellent reviews, but there were NO iffy or negative ones and I can now add my own positive recommendation to them.

03/21/12 Update: I've been using the laptop for about 10 days now, there are simply no problems with it. Just a note..the "mocha" color is barely noticeable, it actually looks dark gray. You need to look real close to notice the slight brownish tint. So don't let the "mocha" color deter you.

This is a good computer for doing basic things for home usage and school work. However,if you are into playing a lot of computer games, it would be advisable to make sure you have sufficient memory and excellent graphics. I enjoy playing and downloading a lot of computer games and most if not all of them weren't very compatible with this system. So keep that in mind and just read every detail about the description of a computer system before you buy it. Overall,for the price I paid, it was an excellent deal.

my husband (who is a computer tech) recommended this particular laptop for me as it was in the price range I was looking for and did what I needed. I mostly use a laptop for web browsing, office 2010 and storing photos.I have to say that after 2 days I am extremely pleased with this item! The keyboard is fantastic, easy to use than the other laptops I have tried. I love the seperate number pad and the responsive touch pad is excellent. The resolution is good, the sound is good and I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. i would recommend this for anyone looking for an entry level laptop.

This is a amazing bargain, excellent wide screen and feel of far more expensive laptops; like my work system, but without the thousand dollar plus price. I also own a small netbook that also cost < $400 and it's not even close to this in features such as nice keyboard and display.

I installed Ubuntu Linux 64 bit 10.04 and everything worked great. Probably the cleanest Linux install I've experienced. Wireless, touchpad, CD/DVD, my external USB keyboard, display etc. all work with this flawlessly. Only had to download and add the driver for my Brother printer.

I take off one star because of the horrible bundled Windows OS and collection of unneeded and useless features. I retained the Windows partition just in case the Linux install did not go well, but I found this notebook to be highly compatible and that latter precaution is not necessary. However I do recommend burning the recovery set in case you decide to sell the system. I would welcome an OS free or pre-installed Linux purchase option.

Not powerful enough for extreme gamings, but overkill for Web users, Photo, Music, Social Networking users etc. Good choice for student too.
