I have had 2 Toshiba Satellite before and they were quite nice.

Portege is a more professional line, so maybe I had too high expectations.

Pros:

It is thin, light, and fast. But that you can see from the specs.

I also love the cables and ports on the back side, leaving the desk free. Remember when all laptops were like that? But fashion rules supreme.

Cons:

Screen, keyboard and touch pad feel really low-end. To know that you need to try.

Lightness has a price. They call it magnesium, it sure looks like plastic to me.

I threw it into a suitcase and it came out warped, like it would not sit flat on the desk. A few twists and pulls later it was flat again. But it was scary.

Most of the time the fan is silent, which is good. The fan is inside a protruding little vent at the bottom, almost certainly blocked if the laptop is on your lap.

Regarding all the above, I keep thinking MacBook Air, and how things can be different. Silent, solid block of aluminium, nice keyboard, touchpad and screen.

Bottom line, I regret not having bought the MacBook Air, which I was going to get before I saw this Toshiba. Certainly worth a couple of dollars more.

This is not my first Ultrabook but is my first Toshiba product and I was really excited to check it out. I first noticed the weight of the machine and how tremendously light it feels, this was perfect for traveling. The next thing I noticed was the lid and the display. They both feel very cheap and not sturdy at all. I honestly have to be very careful when picking it up and dropping it in my bag because I fear that it will break at any moment. Then I turned it on and wow!! Amazing battery life and performance. I watched 2 whole movies on this laptop and still had almost 2 hours left! Toshiba also pre-installed a bunch of neat programs such as a webcam tool, ReelTime (haven't tried it yet, but it is supposed to be keep track of documents), and an Anti-Theft program that disables the laptop if it is stolen or lost.

What I love:

-Performance is superb

-Weight makes it perfect for any person on the go (especially me)

-Battery life was much better then expected (I can get around 7+ hours working on excel, word, and browsing the internet)

-Took less then 30 seconds to boot up completely which was much better then my old Dell and my Samsung Ultrabook

-Sleek Design

What I don't like:

-Feels extremely cheap, especially the outer casing and screen (be careful how you pick it up and put it down)

-Keyboard is a bit small for my taste

-Only comes with 2gb of RAM (i was surprised that it performed so well with only 2gb of RAM)

My screen cracked with normal use in less than 2 months. All it takes is picking it up once in the wrong spot, though. You can see how the lid bows inward when picking it up (when it's closed) when your thumb is in the middle of the area of no support (from a depressed keyboard).

I ship it in for repair they want $459 to fix for "non-covered physical damage" even though it's obvious there is no physical abuse or exterior cracks in screen. Many phone calls just result in frustration. They have no mechanism to accept complaints of design flaws, and that's why every ultrabook from Toshiba has people complaining of cracked screens during normal use.

Anyone know of a class action lawyer? I'm ready to spend the $459 on lawyer fees.

Wonder why this ultrabook was taken off the market in less than 6 months? The lid is extremely cheap, for me, the screen is okay but the plastic surrounding it cracked with normal opening and closing. I have never removed this from my apartment, never abused. The base is honeycomb design, very sturdy, the lid is just a thin piece of plastic. You can watch the company intro video on you-tube as they explain the honeycomb base design. I called Toshiba and they could care less. My previous Toshiba lasted over 6 years, this one less than 3 months.........

The Z935-P300 has a lot going for it:

It's light super light and thin, super thin.

It has a full complement of connections, including VGA and wired gigabit network without needing dongles. You know you WILL lose or forget dongles

The power socket is on the back for neatness straight connector so if it gets pulled is comes out easily (rather than breaking the socket)

The power brick isn't a brick it's tiny half the size of the macbook air brick

The trackpad has conventional scrolling available at the side and bottom Nice (Can also use multi-gestures)

Cost, Best price for a 128GB SSD 3rd gen Ultrabook. Samsung & Asus are more than $200 extra.

Windows 7 !!! (For a non-touch screen device, Windows 8 sucks!)

Against:

Screen is very thin, maybe too thin, worried a bit about durability will have to be very careful with it

Trackpad is a tad small for multi-gestures, but they do work

Trackpad is slightly textured not as slick as smooth glass like finish
