Dell Latitude D630 14.1-Inch Notebook PC - Silver

Dell Latitude D630 14.1-Inch Notebook PC - SilverI bought this laptop directly from dell Financial Services auction on ebay. I did not even know that they have it here on Amazon Marketplace too. Even though the description said manufacturer refurbished the laptop I received looked like new. It came with power adapter and a Dell Windows XP Reinstallation CD and built in Intel PROSet Wireless Card. Absolutely no bloatware is included.

Now this may not be a top of the line machine but it is pretty adequate for home and school or even Small Home Office use. The neat part is that once you boot up the machine for the first time it would automatically install Windows XP after going through some preliminary steps. It even gives you option to enter setup and configure things but you are better off leaving the machine alone to do its thing and install windows XP or whichever operating system it is bundled with unless you're techie. Once windows finishes installation you can pretty much install anything you want. I have so far installed Open Office, MS Office 2003, Firefox, Chrome, Avast Anti Virus, Trusteer Rapport security Software and many other productivity softwares and the machine boots up and runs smoothly.

It does not come with webcam so I installed Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 and Microsoft Lifecam Cinema and either camera runs smoothly even on HD modes. I use Lifecam Cinema more often because it's stand is perfect fit for D630 bezel as opposed to the Quickcam Pro 9000's stand which tend to wobble.

I will advise you buy this laptop directly from Dell either here on Amazon Marketplace or on ebay where it is listed under Dell_Financial_Services. You will likely receive a laptop that will be like new but more importantly you will get 30 days warranty.

This laptop is of right price, size and specs: 14" bright LCD, 2GB Ram, 80GB harddisk space and 2GHZ Intel Dual Core processor that is more than adequate for most home, school and or Small Home Office use. It is sturdy and sleek looking too.

There is one thing that Dell scrimped on here: the tiny single speaker that is barely audible! I use an external Frisby USB laptop Speakers. I also use headphone when I am on the road. It is worthy to note that this tiny speaker belies a powerful sound card that only becomes apparent when you put on a headphone.

NB: Don't forget to switch on the wireless radio or you will not be able to use the wifi connection. The switch is on same side and next to the headphone jack. It is switched off by default. Once you switch it on it will detect a bunch of wifi hot spots including yours, if any. Select your SSID from the displayed options and enter your router's WEP Key and you will be good to go. I have at&t 2WIRE Wireless Gateway and the WEP Key is the ten digit number directly below the serial number located on the side or bottom of the router depending on whether it is standing vertically or lying on it's side. The built in wireless card is powerful. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who may be on budget but not willing to compromise on quality and performance.

I got this laptop in a timely manner and it appears to be in excellent shape. However, when I had problems and called Dell tech support, they told me that the laptop owner had not transferred the laptop to me. Thus, I am unable to get help! I have contacted the seller requesting assistance with this, but have not heard back. When buying a laptop, be sure you get the ownership transferred to you.

I bought two of these. The first one was in excellent condition, really impressive for a "refurb". So when hubby murdered his laptop by spilling a drink into it, I thought this D630 would be the perfect replacement for him. When it arrived, we were both a bit disappointed. It functions correctly but has a loose lid/screen that can wobble and some sticking keys and generally looks quite used. He's satisfied enough to keep it, partly because he doesn't want to be without one for any length of time, and partly because we've had positive experiences with off-lease Dells in the past even if they have a wart or two.

My personal disappointment was that after receiving the first one, I expected the same level of quality from the second one because at that time, it was sold by Amazon -not a marketplace refurb seller where you can never be sure of what you'll get until you open the box.

If you buy one of these refurbished computers be sure to buy the warranty. The one I purchased only lasted 46 days which is 16 days past the 30 day return period. It quit working and it needs new screen ($600.00) and new battery. I didn't notice that you could buy a warranty when I bought it so I just wasted $300.00. Be sure you buy the warranty!

Toshiba PSAT9U-00F004 I3-330m 2.13/4gb/500gb/dvd-sm/16

Toshiba PSAT9U-00F004 I3-330m 2.13/4gb/500gb/dvd-sm/16I Love this computer,i have had it for about 7 mo. It does everything I want it to do and then some, the only changes i did to it is i took out the 2 2gigs of ram memory total 4 and put in two 4s for total of 8 rams,Now there is no video game that it doesn't play really well,It was good before for games under 1 gig.I have had 4 laptops.and this is by for the best. This review is for the satellite A505.

Excellent laptop computer. Much better than my desktop Dell computer which is 5 years old. I do not have any complaints except that it comes with 4 gigs of ram, 2 gigs in two slots of two. So to add ram you have to open up one slot which means throwing away 2 gigs of ram. Buy 4 gigs of ram means you only add 2 gigs. That is my only complaint so far after one month.

I am in the IT field (but do not regularly buy/maintain hardware for my job) and find computers rather difficult to review since it depends on what you need for your purposes and you may always get a lemon. Some factors to consider would be if there are shipping costs, if you want to buy at a physical location (so you can potentially take it back easily), or if you need serious customer support because you are technically impaired (my coworkers would swear that apple has the best service.)

That said, I have had this one around 6 months and am satisfied and would recommend it (depending, as I said, on what your individual priorities are.)

Previously, I have owned or maintained (for personal/family use) Acers, Compaqs, Dells, Emachines, and HPs --I am most disillusioned with the last HP I bought to use as a media center (DVR, essentially), but I digress. This time, I wanted to try a Toshiba or Sony. I also really wanted a 10key pad on board in case I have to use the keyboard directly --I love keyboard shortcuts and am very picky about my keyboards --which narrowed the field considerably. After doing some research , I settled on this since the CNET reviews were decent and the price was in my range.

It is a giant, heavy monster but I do not plan to carry it around much. Mostly I wanted to save space (vs a tower) and have the option of portability. Since I usually trade out my pc every 3 years or so and do not need any special peripherals (mostly I do internet and ms office computing, nothing too demanding), I wasn't planning on expansion (one of the pros in having a tower.) Battery life is supposed to be long but I have it plugged in for the most part and haven't put it to the test. I wanted decent ram and a larger hard drive (at least 500GB) and I like having a firewire port to attach an external hd (the one peripheral I do have) for backups and free up one more usb port. Graphics and sound were not a must for my uses although those are supposed to be quite good (and have been fine for me.)

Minor downside are the touch sensitive controls for music --I'd rather have tactile buttons, since, in my experience, they never register half the time when I am trying to use them and this one ran true to form --but in any case I have another keyboard plugged in with better controls anyway (yes, I use both the built in keyboard and another keyboard plugged in as the mood strikes.) Major downside is that it was at least a hundred more than I ideally wanted to spend (I got it in the mid/higher $800s and was hoping for more like low $700s) But given that it was the brand and keyboard I wanted and keeping the ram and hard drive space up always adds to the cost on laptops especially --I went for it.

ASUS N76VJ-DH71 2.4-3.4GHz i7-3630QM 16GB 2TB 5400rpm HDD 2GB nVIDIA GT 635M 17.3" HD Blu-ray ROM W8

ASUS N76VJ-DH71 2.4-3.4GHz i7-3630QM 16GB 2TB 5400rpm HDD 2GB nVIDIA GT 635M 17.3' HD Blu-ray ROM W8I decided for my new laptop to be an ASUS based on some of my friends recommendations. Not this one in particular but they all had old ASUS laptops which lasted them for years without experiencing any problem at all.

I chose this model because I need a lot of hard drive space for my work, and I have always hated to use an external hardrive. For this reason, I am very happy with it. Not only that, but it performs very good in general, specially because it has a good processor and lots of RAM.

There are two things that I'm unsatisfied with, one of them very important. The battery life is extremely short. Even with the screen brightness lowered to almost the minimum, the battery is out in just over 1 hour. On top of that, sometimes it indicates that the battery is not present even though its there and fully charge. Whenever this happens, I am forced to shut down the computer, remove the battery and then plug it in again. This has caused me lots of problems. It could be that this one is defect, but I cannot make an exchange because I live in Europe and bought it in one of my trips to USA.

The second problem is that sometimes, when I turn it on, the fan starts to work and it never stops until I shut it down and turn it back on. I am aware that this could be a software problem, because the day that I received it, the first thing that I did was remove Windows 8 (which is terrible), and installed Ubuntu instead. So it may be that this is causing the fan to go mad sometimes, but because of that experience with the battery, I doubt that is the case.

I hope this helps someone with the desition. When I got it, there were no reviews. I am sure that the next laptop I will buy is not going to be an ASUS

was trying to buy a laptop, not cost too much, but had enough capacity to do digital design work, works great, and video games run incredible

Dell Inspiron i15R-526MRB 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mars Black)

Dell Inspiron i15R-526MRB 15.6-Inch LaptopLooks nice even when its keyboard cover is not black as I saw in the amazon pictures. Web Cam is not HD. Good Compute for its price. I'll add 3 more GB RAM since it is cheap and for sure its performance is going to increase.

Got this for $379.00 sold and shipped by Amazon with FREE 2-day shipping because I'm an Amazon PRIME member. Awesome machine upgraded the RAM to 8GBs ($39 after rebate free one day PRIME delivery). What a deal, this thing screams for that price we're talking major value for money. Sad thing is I was so happy I wanted to get another one, but 2 days after I ordered it the price went up $110! Of course just more evidence I got an amazing deal. Thanks Amazon!

Sony VAIO E Series SVE15134CXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Sony VAIO E Series SVE15134CXS 15.5-Inch LaptopExactly as described. I adore it. Best Microsoft windows laptop in my opinion. I love the look of it and windows 8 is pretty awesome as well. Its not as hard to operate as people have been saying it is. i just got my laptop today and im already used to it. lol. You still have the original desktop to so theres nothing different except the setup in the begining. And if you order this laptop on amazon. i suggest getting it through amazon and go about the free shipping they offer when you buy more then one thing over 25 dollars. my estimated shipping was for next week and i ordered it on monday. Waaaay earlier then expected which is even better! So, if your thinking about getting this laptop, go for it! Deffinetly worth it and its different in a good way from the rest. :3

I deliberately waited a few months to write a review on this so I had time to truly discover what I did and did not like about this laptop.

The Operating System

A big difference to me was made by Windows 8. I'll be honest, I don't much like the OS. It takes me a good few minutes to find certain programs that I could find in seconds on XP or Windows 7. Also the OS seems to have a function that works through the mousepad that minimizes the function or game you are on and snaps back to the desktop it's pretty annoying when gaming so I use a separate mouse for that. It just seems like the OS missed the mark in anticipating the needs of people using it. My mother has the same laptop and she made the same comment to me just recently, and she's not a gamer! So truly, gamer or not, you may find Windows 8 a bit of a pain, at least until you get used to it. The system also comes with Kaspersky Internet security 2013 which is a great anti-virus/security system.

The Laptop

The laptop itself is a dream! The keys are lit from below so you can even use it in the dark without the need to switch a nearby lamp on. The 'Fn' key works like a shift to enable your F-keys to adjust thinks like brightness and sound, meaning they casn be used as regular F-keys in games (I had a previous laptop where you had to press 'Fn' to use those keys as F keys, so I greatly appreciate this!).

The laptop is desinged around you shutting the lid to place it into a power-saving mode, so most of the time you will never need to shut down. The manufacturer claims it can be left in this mode for up to 2 days unplugged, although I've only tested it for about a day. When you open the lid the laptop is ready in seconds, so it saves a lot of time setting up overall.

While the main reason I bought the laptop was for Skyping with family in England, (the built-in webcam and mic are what I looked for) I do spend a lot of time gaming. The laptop runs Star Wars: The Old Republic very smoothly. I also play APB Reloaded and Stat Trek Online with no problems, and at high graphics settings. In choosing this laptop I looked for system specs that would run the new Sim City game, though I haven't bought that yet! All of these games run smoothly and the laptop hardly even gets warm. The fan system works very well indeed!

Overall

The OS is a pain sometimes but you can live with it. The benefits of how this laptop runs and works and the fact that it hasn't run into anything it can't handle far outweigh the few niggling problems I've had with Windows 8. I couldn't bring myself to rate this laptop less than 5 stars and my wife will tell you I've spent every spare minute on it since it arrived! If you're prepared to spend a little more than the average cheap-end $400 laptops, this one is great value for money.

I have owned this lap top less than a month and I have decided to return it. It suddenly crashes, the error says "the computer ran into some kind of a problem and needs to be restarted". It would not be a problem if it happened once in a month or so, however it happens every other day. I have ordered a replacement. I hope the new one will not have this problem again.

There are a lot of features on this laptop that make it pretty amazing, but there of course, some cons to it.

First of all, Windows 8 is really easy to learn, especially if you have used a tablet or Ipad. On the Windows 8 main start-up screen, you have the option to change your Icons. One of the Icons is a "Desktop" button, and will take you to the normal view of a desktop (which looks like Windows 7 or Vista start-up screen). This "Desktop" button comes in handy when you are learning Windows 8. I have also learned that certain functions only work on the Windows 8 start-up and certain functions only work on the "Desktop" screen. Windows 8 start-up allows you to use your track pad like that of a MacBook track pad (meaning, you can use two fingers to scroll up and down and side ways), whereas on the regular desktop you cannot. On the regular "desktop" screen, you can use Adobe, but on Windows 8 you cannot. Therefore, while learning Windows 8 is easy, and the screen looks pretty awesome, it can be confusing to figure out what functions you can use on which screen (it's almost like having 2 different laptops, with all the same data).

Something that comes in handy on the laptop is how easy it is to toggle between the screens. On the left corner of the screen, you can access a small screen of each tab you have used on the laptop. (To close these, you click on the one you want, put your mouse pointed at the top of the screen, click and drag down).

I've gotten many compliments on the color of the laptop. I occasionally feel like if Barbie had a laptop, this is the laptop she would have. But, it has a very beachy look to it.

One thing I REALLY love about this laptop, it has the second set of numbers on the keyboard (like a desktop keyboard). More on the keyboard: The letters and numbers appear bigger than on most laptops and keyboards, so it is easy to see each thing. The letters, however are not in the middle of the buttons, but rather on the left upper corners (kinda quirky, I think). The keyboard lights up (like a MacBook keyboard). The only thing I find rather interesting is how the keyboard it put together. I've only had my laptop for a week, and I've noticed that the piece that covers the laptop keyboard is a very soft and feels cheaply made. Now in defense of the laptop company itself, I understand that a lighter material was probably needed, because it has a backlit keyboard, and the heat from the lights could potentially lead to overheating (at least that is the only deductible reasoning I could come up with). I like the quick keys on the keyboard, and I like the overall function of the keyboard.

One thing that may get annoying in the future, is the track pad. Where the track pad has cool functions and is fairly easy to use, it jumps around a pretty fair amount. I found it clicking on things I do not click on. I haven't found a way to control this either.

But overall, the computer is pretty awesome.

HP Pavilion 14-b031us Sleekbook 14.0in Laptop (Intel Pentium 1.50GHz CPU, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, 320GB Har

HP Pavilion 14-b031us Sleekbook 14.0in Laptop - Model C6N76UAI purchased this hp pavillion sleekbook on black Friday at staples which costed me 299.99. Its not bad, very light and the windows 8 os is very responsive with the sleekbook touchpad. Note this computer does not come with a touch screen and no cd rom drive. It comes with bells and whistles like bluetooth hd webcam and 3 hour battery for internet use. Off internet the battery last for 4 hours. Last an hd screen display. This is a decent laptop if your looking to do productivit and lite media editing and nothing to heavy. I dong give 5 stars but I will only give it a 4 stars.

This is my second HP laptop and I am not at all disappointed. I Thought I saw the separate number pad but it is not in this laptop, which is ok, because this laptop is super! It is very light compared to my last one and very sleek look. The camera works well. The set up is easy. Still working on what the life of battery is [I am doing a personal study with multiple trials to do this, I will update later]. The sound is crisp and clear but still not loud [kinda a bummer]. The Bluetooth is great! I much more prefer the Bluetooth capabilities than a CD/DVD drive [which doe snot come with this model]. The description clearly states there is no CD/DVD so be advised. Plus the only negative review on this product is simply that of someones own mistake(s) when shopping. The Bluetooth is easy to set up and use. I enjoy sending pictures to the computer from my phone, using the computer as a speaker phone while I am doing my homework or taking quizzes. This allows me to just connect via cell phone and jam instead of taking extra effort to upload music or even popping in a CD [which cannot happen with this model :P ] It is just conveniently. Love this product.

For clarification: This is my second HP in 5 years. This was not a product or brand problem, the brand has been wonderful to me so far! [the story:] My other one was plugged in at the kitchen table so I could work on a final paper and watch my kids paint and when I was getting them their drinks my oldest son tripped over the cord and I was unable to brace the fall and my previous laptop screen shattered beyond use. It was a suck fest. I have tried a few other brands only to be an angry/psycho scholar who had been screwed during finals/midterms [that happened 3 times]. SO I am biased towards HP now, simply because they have provided me with great products :)

Not too impressed with Windows 8. I really miss the "start" button. However, that's a Microsoft issue, not HP. The integrated camera works well, no problems with any of the video features kids constantly watching Youtube. Extra USB slot is nice comes with 3. Miss a DVD drive for the kids, but most of the movies they watch today are digital downloads. I actually bought two of these one for each son. Very satisfied, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the missing DVD drive.

This 14-b031 Sleekbook is light and nimble on its feet. After using it for a couple of months a more balanced review can be given. Facing the new learning curve of Windows 8 focused my attention on the operating system rather than the computer. Once Windows 8 had been learned the Sleekbook has some neat and nimble features. First the weight is much lighter than my former laptop. This makes it nice to travel with. Open the lid and it starts up very quickly. The smaller 14" screen has been no hindrance. The keyboard is nice too, it seems just right. It never seems to run hot in my lap with HP Coolsense. It is my hope that I never have to use the HP Protect Smart for dropping it. However, packing a laptop around increases the risk of being dropped. The general features of being light weight, price, and amble work capacity, makes it an all around machine that does all I need to do.

I have a 4 1/2 year old Dell laptop and I thought it was time to replace it with a newer laptop. I have had no problems whatsoever with my Dell in all that time. I fully expected and wanted to buy a new Dell with a 17 inch screen but the prices seemed a bit high. By the way I'm a "Make or buy American" guy and I have been in Austin, Texas where the Dell headquarters is/was(?). I made the minor mistake of asking one of our computer whizzes at work what he thought about Dells and he gave me that vague look and speech "Dells are OK" but then he said "I've heard a lot of good stuff about ASUS". So I looked up ASUS up on the internet and all I saw was an address in California...my search stopped there and I thought I was getting an American brokered (at least) computer. ASUS was cheaper because it's all foreign.

Epilogue:

-The DVD player skips and burps, even on brand new disks.

-Going to the Start screen interrupts or stops other functions.

-I'm not sure if the Instant On feature is giving me the good and refreshing benefits of a cold start.

-It just doesn't seem that much faster than my 4 1/2 year old Dell laptop.

I'm just kinda' surprised.

Toshiba Satellite M645-S4065 14.0-Inch LED LaptopI am pleasantly surprised that this laptop is actually amazing fast. I have had this for about two months now. Here are my findings. the keyboard is great , nice quick motion, wish it was a backlit though. The screen res is above average rating and the sound from the harmon kardon speakers are amazing. The battery life is about 2-2 1/2 hours of just internet, email, streaming movies. The build quality looks and feels solid compared to other toshiba models. The bluray was an added bonus , perfect size for traveling. I really don't have any complaints so far for this model. I only wished that the keyboard was backlit. I would like to upgrade on this model replacing the keyboard with a backlit one but I believe it does not support it? Can anyone confirm?

Excellent product, very comfortable design and very compact, the graphics are not so amazing but in general comparing his price with the features it comes, it's a very good purchase.

A couple of months ago my desktop pc crashed and this guy has had to pick up my workload and it's really performed well considering it's not designed to be a big graphics pc. Plus I have it hooked up to my tv so I can watch movies from the blu-ray player. My only complaint is the Eco Energy saver is terrible when it comes to the WiFi, if the machine isn't plugged in the WiFi goes in and out. A minor annoyance.

I bought this laptop in december 2010. The laptop worked fine for 6 months i.e SIX MONTHS before a portion of my screen went blank. No there was no spills no falls, nothing but a faulty screen. Could not return it seeing as my time to return it to amazon had passed, i called toshiba and they said that they don't build faulty screens. They have never in there life of production built a faulty screen and hence i must have punched my computer or just sat on it because that the normal things people do with their computer. Need less to say I did not get it repaired they told me i have to pay 465 to repair it. which was 2/3s of what i payed for it.

If you are one of those people that feel the need to change a laptop every year this is the perfect laptop for you. If you need your computer to last long and you want a good warranty DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP.

HP 2000-2a22NR, AMD E1-1200, 15.6' Screen Display, Notebook With 4 GB Memory, 500GB Hard Drive, HDMI, Windows 7 Home PremiumThe keypad is difficult to use ... a very strong touch is needed to use it. I also hate the feel of the pad to move the cursor. It actually scrapes my fingertips if I use it for a long time. The computer itself works fine but I really, really am sorry I bought this computer because of the keypad issues.

This is a nice computer. For the price I can't imagine much better. Battery life is good so far, Does great multitasking, I usually run 3 to 6 tabs online at a time and this laptop has been keeping up great, even compared to desktops. And the screen resolution compared to my old laptop blew me away. Also the sleep function is good saves battery life and still wakes up fast. That said room for improvement: the cord is way shorter than I am used to and would be much better in the back and there are lights on both sides that make me crazy at night, I have to unplug it to get the right side to go out and cover the left side to stop the blinking madness. The top while very nice in appearance out of the box, scratches much to easy. Minor set backs in a nice product but annoyed me enough to mention.

I bought this laptop from this company EXPECTING to get Windows 7 seeing that, THAT is what is advertised. Little did I know that I would have received Windows 8 instead. I contacted the seller about the issues and they showed no TRUE concerned about handling this matter as they stopped replying to my emails and left it like that. I am so upset by the disgusting customer service and lack of professionalism received with this purchase and company and I will NEVER purchase from them again and never encourage other to do so because the experience was terrible.

I thought that was all until I also noticed the error messages that came with this laptop which I made the company aware of and up to date haven't received any replied on the matter.

IF you intend to have a business please remember that the only way your company is generating money is through the customers so if you intend to treat your customers like this then it's best you choose another career path.

This company is FALSELY ADVERTISING this product and they have a "don't care" attitude about it. It sickens me to know that I am now left to fit the bill to get these issues resolved. This has been the WORST experience purchasing through Amazon, ever!

Apple Laptop Powerbook G4 A1095, 15", 1.33GHz, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, Bluetooth, Airport

Apple Laptop Powerbook G4 A1095, 15', 1.33GHz, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, Bluetooth, AirportI needed a laptop to keep around the house to surf the net and to business on. This laptop is great. If you are looking for a great laptop I would strongly consider. Shipment was fast and easy.

Cons: Its outdated software cant be upgraded

IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT THIS COMPUTER!

Especially for 300 bucks!!! You did it again, Mr Jobs. From the grave, no less!

Who cares if the hard drive is 60 gb there's so much online storage now and everyone has at least 1 external hard drive.

with that much ram you can run, like a billion processes at once like a BAWSE no slowing down here, just gogogo!

Sure the GPU might over heat and die (like mind did), or become desoldieredbut logic boards are $50 on eBay. While you are at it, you probably can upgrade from 1.33GHz to 1.5GHz. I like this computer, it's just old enough to have an Appletalk port and modem, and theoretically communicate with my ancient macs, but new enough to use the Internet and archive old data on an external hard drive. If you are like me and don't care much about intel macs, and still regularly use os10.5 and older, then give it a try.

I have had this PowerBook G4 for about 3 months now. I put and extra 2GB of RAM into it and downgraded th OS X. The screen is warn down so the backlight is TERRIBLE! But the upside is it is great to use around the house! although the PowerPC processor is VERY OUT OF DATE YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO UPGRADE 10.6 and up. think about what your buying some programs are incompatible with the PowerPC processor... oh and the battery life IS TERRIBLE!

Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15128CXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15128CXS 15.5-Inch LaptopI actually bought this computer at Compuserve when it was on sale for $749. At that price it was a really good deal. The computer yields a lot of power for the money. I am comparing to a 4 yr old HP machine with 4g memory running Vista, so I'm dated to say the least. The Vista to W8 is a moderate learning curve, but I don't want this to be a W8 review.

Pluses:

Very fast

Wonderful graphics

Large HD

8g ram

Minimal "bloatware"

Nice trackpad (a little different from traditional track pads with a tactile click)

Cons:

Not used to the chicklet style keyboard, yet. This will come with time.

The keyboard has a noticable "give" give. I'm not a heavy handed typist, but someone who is will really notice this.

All in all, good value for the money.

Update 12/9/12:

After a few weeks, i have upped my review to 5 stars. I have adjusted to the keyboard (still adjusting to the touchpad), and am loving this computer. I installed software which gives me the start button back, and am making periodic forays into the tile portion of W8. I think the other reviewers who ditzed this computer due to the operating system are a bit out of place. W8 can be adjusted just like any other operating system to satisfy each individual's taste.

New Pros:

Charges quickly

Very light weight (much lighter than my 4 yr old 14" HP)

This is a feature packed computer that I would highly recommend to a friend, especially at the mid-$700s.

Backlight keyboard, ten key on the keyboard, don't really care for windows 8 yet, I might just re-install windows 7, but that has nothing to do with the hardware. Always have preferred the Vaio's over all other laptop brands as they all have that sleek and trendy look. Overall very happy with purchase. The best bang for the buck.

Buy Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15128CXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver) Now

I purchased this laptop on Black Friday and got very, very good price for this machine.

Likes:

Large hard drive

Beautiful screen with almost endless viewing angles

Great sound

10 key!

Backlit keyboard

Dislikes (personal preferences):

I don't much care for Windows 8, was hoping there was an included Windows 7 downgrade option.

I don't care for the mousepad; there are no physical left/right buttons

Very happy with my new computer. I am a Sony person and the large screen works great for my aging eyesite.

East to travel with and sturdy, yet light enough.

Want Sony VAIO E15 Series SVE15128CXS 15.5-Inch Laptop (Silver) Discount?

Bought this computer at Fry's Electronics on a black Friday deal. The computer comes with a Windows 8 OS. I had heard nightmare stories of Windows 8 being a piece of crap, but decided that the deal was too good to pass up. After about a day and a half of fighting the Windows 8 OS. I purchased the Windows 7 OEM Professional and wiped Windows 8 from the hard drive. Now that Windows 7 is installed on the computer, it runs a lot better. The computer is a great deal for the money and would recommend it if it had come with Windows 7 to begin with. If you buy this computer wipe Windows 8 and install Windows 7. It will save you a headache in the long run.

Sony Vaio vpcF12AFM/H Core I3-350M 2.26GHz 4GB 500GB HD Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive MO

Sony Vaio vpcF12AFM/H Core I3-350M 2.26GHz 4GB 500GB HD Blu-ray Disc-enabled DVD±RW/CD-RW drive MOTION EYE webcam with microphone and face-tracking technologyI've been searching for a few months since my 7-year old, $2,000 HP Pavilion was about ready to give up the ghost. A laptop is also a "nice-to-have" rather than a primary computer. The drop in price of laptops has been stunning. You can now get a brand new Lenovo (formerly IBM) for $300. And HPs are flying for $5-600.

But I wanted performance, a large screen, a full-sized keyboard, good battery life ... and so many folks kept saying "get a Mac." However, an Apple Macbook Pro is very pricey, and used ones (4-6 years old) go for $5-700. Plus, they're not as easy to work on if you're a writer like me. The PC keyboard is simply built for writing. (After all, it is a standard, old qwerty typewriter keyboard.)

I compared lots of laptops, online and hands-on. Sony Vaios were looking better and better, but the new, top-end ones are $1100-1300. I somehow landed on this Amazon page with this refurb high-end Sony Vaio that's called a gaming / entertainment laptop. (Originally $1200.) I'm not a gamer, and not planning on watching movies on my laptop ... just a serious computer user and full-time writer. Guess what -the better graphics and horsepower make a lot of difference.

My old HP Pavilion is a 17" diagonal laptop. This Sony Vaio is a 16.4" diagonal. However, the screen format has changed to an HD look, so it's actually just as wide as my old 17", but not as tall. However, the extra screen size is not missed, and the more compact Sony is far better.

These refurbs are available from Sony directly for $977. But there are several here on Amazon as of this writing for as low as $550. I bought one of those and recommend the seller (USA Laptop Parts) highly. Great communication and product just as described. This is last year's model, and there are lots of things I prefer about it over this year's high-end Sony Vaio, including the touch pad and keyboard.

It's a beautiful PC that stands up very well against the Macbook Pro. It comes with 4MB of RAM and I ordered more to bring it up to the 8MB max.

Samsung Series 3 NP350E7C-A01US Intel 3rd generation Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz ~ 1TB ~ 8GB ~ 17.3" HD+

Samsung Series 3 NP350E7C-A01US Intel 3rd generation Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz ~ 1TB ~ 8GB ~ 17.3' HD+ LED ~ DVD+/-RW ~ BlueTooth 4.0 ~ WiDi ~ Windows 8This is truly an excellent bargain for the price. An i7 processor, 1TB hard-drive, and 17" HD screen? Whats not to love? Well, a few things but first:....

The good.

As stated, an I7 processor which is very impressive especially at this price. If you bounce on over to you can see how this processor stacks up to others.

huge 1TB hard-drive to hold your entire movie/game/music collection

8GB ram which i believe (unconfirmed yet) is expandable to 16gb

4USB ports(not 2) 2 are 3.0, located on the left which are not shown in product pics or in description.

Full keyboard with numeric pad. A big plus as some laptops even giant ones like this refuse to include a numeric pad.

Great heat distribution, powerful processor fan. However i always recommend investing in a good laptop chill pad to help protect your investment and prolong life.

Good battery life(2-4hrs) for such a powerful PC. This is not a traveling laptop, it doesn't have an ultra 8-12hr battery life, don't expect to go all day long not plugged in. This is a powerhouse and needs to be plugged in.(also recommend turning on the feature where the battery doesn't charge beyond 80% to prolong life. its in there somewhere)

The bad:

CD rom drive. It works, well even but the button is so easy to hit it almost always pops out when moving it around. I know most laptops suffer from the cd rom button occasionally getting bumped and knocked out but on this one its ridiculous. Maybe if there was a recessed wall around it or something. its a complete pain.

Sound. This is a big one for me. Your speakers are slightly above worthless on this. They are tiny. tiny tiny. maybe 1inX0.5in on each side. that is it. its like having tweeters for your main sound. The speakers were the reason i removed a star. Do not expect any rich high-def sound with this laptop and there is plenty of wasted space they could have put bigger or more speakers. Headphones are better for sound quality but its not super rich sound due to sub-par sound card but with headphones the sound is much better, good enough for gaming

Graphics card. Your processor will outperform the graphics card. The card is of lower quality as well, so while your machine will handle all the superb graphics cranked to ultra high, your card will not display much change between the ulta high and around medium. So while your monitor is highdef, its not going to look super ultra pretty like you would see on today's common high-def TV. Its not a bad graphics card, just...average for budget laptop. This is a graphics card i would expect to find in a 300-500 laptop

Webcam. If this was the 2000-2010's it would be great but in today's technology my android has a better camera in it. Its good enough for say skype and things like that. Possibly for shooting medium-quality youtube movies but its nothing highdef(as claimed). 1.2MP is not much in today's world.

Hard drive is kinda slow at 5200 RPM but that doesnt matter too much, just takes longer to write bigger files to the drive. no real big thing only pointing it out

The ugly:

Of course, win8! Its horrible when you first get it, then tolerable when you learn how to deal with it. Its not good, boo on microsoft but im not holding this against samsung. You can tweak in a start bar to get the win7 feel back. Like i said...tolerable, nothing against the PC however since good luck finding any other new PC without win8.

Very minimalistic, stocky design. Its for lack of better words, dull. Quite featureless. No extra buttons for say hot-keying it does have a function keylock which is nice but no hot buttons for web-browser, or turning sound on/off. that sorta thing. As said earlier, a lot of wasted space that could of been filled with goodies but its not a big concern and shouldn't be yours.

No lights for lock keys. If you turn cap-locks on/off. or num or function there is no indicator light anywhere telling you its on. Which is really bad for say passwords where the keys are hidden and you cant figure out why Passw0rd isn't working when you are really typing pASSWRD. stupidity....and i just accidentally knocked open my cd-rom again, the new bane of my existence....ahh white people problems...

The pad can be a bit troublesome to learn its features at first but once you get it down its fine (like using 2 fingers for scroll and its inverted scroll) Im still working on that one.

Summary:

Im sure my review sounded much more harsh and critical than it is but really this is an awesome laptop, most of it was only to make people aware of some of the quirks ive encountered to help them understand what they receive. For me this is perfect. I wanted "the best bang for my buck" and i believe i got just that. for $700 this is an EXCELLENT laptop. Almost a gaming laptop. I truly do recommend this product for anyone seeking for a new laptop that wants a powerhouse on a budget because this product does deliver and samsung does have excellent customer service.

bought this laptop to help me edit photos I take as I am learning photography. I needed a laptop that could handle a photo editing program, such as PhotoShop, and lots of storage for saved photos. So far, it's working great for this purpose, with one exception: Windows 8 does not recognize .dat files of online photo editors such as Pixlr or Picmonkey, so that's a negative. Since I am use to Windows Vista, I was a little worried about getting a laptop with the new Windows 8 system, but once you get used to the vastly different arrangement of everything, it's pretty cool and easy to use. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Buy Samsung Series 3 NP350E7C-A01US Intel 3rd generation Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz ~ 1TB ~ 8GB ~ 17.3" HD+ Now

Early 2013 I searched for exactly this configuration: 17", 8gb, core i7. The general starting price was $900. Not only is the Samsung 3 a bargain at $700, the remaining stats are almost to good to be true, 2.4ghz, 1tb, and so on.

My first impression usng the laptop was how fast it booted and how quiet it was. So far I haven't seen any issues installing the programs I usually use. It's exactly the laptop I wanted.

Then there's Windows 8: at first I hated it, but after delving deeper into it, the new possibilities are definitely intriguing. There are two "realms" in the new windows, the desktop which is the old interface and the app world, which is the new interface. Switching back and forth is cumbersome at first, and the default configuration has you falling out of desktop and into the metro interface quite often. But you can work pretty much the way you used to in Windows 7 by 1) learning the shortcuts, e.g.windows key+d returns you to desktop mode. 2) select desktop applications as default programs for common filetypes (pdf, jpg, mp3, avi, etc) if a metro app is the default you leave desktop mode when opening the object and don't return to desktop when closing. 3) I haven't done this yet, but you can also install one of a number of programs that reinstates the start menu and disables the charms menu. Though the start window is different than the old start menu, the search available there appears to me to do the job, so I will try it out some more before making this move.

What some people might miss: this dvd drive does not support blu ray, and the touch pad does not have an external switch to enable/disable.

All in all, a dream configuration at this price. I'm beginning to like Samsung.
