I Love this computer,i have had it for about 7 mo. It does everything I want it to do and then some,the only changes i did to it is i took out the 2 2gigs of ram memory total 4 and put in two 4s for total of 8 rams,Now there is no video game that it doesn't play really well,It was good before for games under 1 gig.I have had 4 laptops.and this is by for the best.This review is for the satellite A505.

Excellent laptop computer. Much better than my desktop Dell computer which is 5 years old. I do not have any complaints except that it comes with 4 gigs of ram, 2 gigs in two slots of two. So to add ram you have to open up one slot which means throwing away 2 gigs of ram. Buy 4 gigs of ram means you only add 2 gigs. That is my only complaint so far after one month.

I am in the IT field (but do not regularly buy/maintain hardware for my job) and find computers rather difficult to review since it depends on what you need for your purposes and you may always get a lemon. Some factors to consider would be if there are shipping costs, if you want to buy at a physical location (so you can potentially take it back easily), or if you need serious customer support because you are technically impaired (my coworkers would swear that apple has the best service.)

That said, I have had this one around 6 months and am satisfied and would recommend it (depending, as I said, on what your individual priorities are.)

Previously, I have owned or maintained (for personal/family use) Acers, Compaqs, Dells, Emachines, and HPs --I am most disillusioned with the last HP I bought to use as a media center (DVR, essentially), but I digress. This time, I wanted to try a Toshiba or Sony. I also really wanted a 10key pad on board in case I have to use the keyboard directly --I love keyboard shortcuts and am very picky about my keyboards --which narrowed the field considerably. After doing some research , I settled on this since the CNET reviews were decent and the price was in my range.

It is a giant, heavy monster but I do not plan to carry it around much. Mostly I wanted to save space (vs a tower) and have the option of portability. Since I usually trade out my pc every 3 years or so and do not need any special peripherals (mostly I do internet and ms office computing, nothing too demanding), I wasn't planning on expansion (one of the pros in having a tower.) Battery life is supposed to be long but I have it plugged in for the most part and haven't put it to the test. I wanted decent ram and a larger hard drive (at least 500GB) and I like having a firewire port to attach an external hd (the one peripheral I do have) for backups and free up one more usb port. Graphics and sound were not a must for my uses although those are supposed to be quite good (and have been fine for me.)

Minor downside are the touch sensitive controls for music --I'd rather have tactile buttons, since, in my experience, they never register half the time when I am trying to use them and this one ran true to form --but in any case I have another keyboard plugged in with better controls anyway (yes, I use both the built in keyboard and another keyboard plugged in as the mood strikes.) Major downside is that it was at least a hundred more than I ideally wanted to spend (I got it in the mid/higher $800s and was hoping for more like low $700s) But given that it was the brand and keyboard I wanted and keeping the ram and hard drive space up always adds to the cost on laptops especially --I went for it.

Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7384 17.3-Inch Gaming Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Red Horizon

First off ... I'm not a gamer. I had a 15.6" Lenovo entry level laptop that worked fine but I wanted more in a laptop. I wanted to be able to watch Blu-ray movies; I wanted an HDMI connection to tie the lap to a TV; I wanted a built in card reader; I wanted dual HDDs so I could designate one strictly for backup. There are several other features that my Lenovo lacked so I opted for a high end gaming machine. I was torn between an Asus gamer and this Toshiba. I did a huge amount of research, comparison between the 2 manufacturers and comparative cost shopping. Finally I pulled the trigger on this Qosmio. All I can say is ...WOW!! It not only met but exceeded my expectations. I upgraded the OS to Win7 Ultimate, threw on Office and A/V software and was good to go. A lot of the Toshiba bloatware is actually useful. I blew it all away and then reinstalled the select ones that I wanted to retain. For instance, Eco Utility is a cool feature ... turn it on with the touch of a button and the screen dims about 10%, all the idiot lights disappear and battery life increases about 25%. Sweet if you're working/playing away from an AC outlet. Tap the desktop button again and Eco is off. Harman/Kardon speakers have to be heard to be believed! With stereo above and a sub woofer below, the sound is unmatched in ANY other laptop. The NVIDIA GTX560M vid card is top of the line, latest state of the art. Intel Core i7; 8GB of 1333 RAM; 1TB of HDD (2-500GBs); Backlit keyboard. I could just go on indefinitely. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 10 laptop. I have zero negative comments. There is no room for improvement. Lastly, Amazon's price beat out the competitors'. Don't hesitate even if you are only remotely considering this unit. Pull the trigger ... with Amazon!!

Just bought this a few days ago at $1399, and NOW you go and take $100 off.

Well anyway, still a good gaming notebook at $1399. Took a bit of doing though. Had to downgrade the bios to 1.10 to fix the occasional choppy framerate that I experienced playing Witcher 2. Also had to go to the global settings in the Nvidia control panel and set the Nvidia processor as my preferred processor in the global settings in order to get some of my other games to run smoothly. But now everything's smooth as butter on max settings at 1080p (Samsung TV). Love the hybrid drive, speakers, and price so much that I'm willing to overlook the max 8gb ram, 1600x900 17" screen, and ugly design (in my opinion).

Not bad for $1399. Even better at $1299.

I've been on the market for a new mac for over a year now. I've put it off hoping the next year's upgraded version would be better value than the ones released the previous year, but when I found a deal (elsewhere for cheaper) for the exact same spec I pulled the trigger and never regretted it.

My work requires me to travel with my computer. I have been using a 5 year old white macbook with osx snow leopard prior to my purchase, and in my experience macs are reliable, sturdy, highly capable machines which lead me to the decision to stay with mac for this purchase. I use my computer for basic computing, word processing, excel, power point presentations, pdf files, light photo shopping and video editing. I'm highly dependent to the internet and send my files and exchange data online regularly. I've never had to use the dvd/cd drive from my last computer, at least not in the past 3 years, hence I am not sad that they got rid of it on the new retina macbooks.

At first glance you notice the quality of the retina display macbook. It has the same thought of design the previous macs had. Beautifully crafted, great materials and amazing feel. Macs just have that quality that makes you reach for that credit card with reckless abandon! Yes, it is exorbitantly priced compared to most other computers out there in the market but it is worth every penny. My old mac gave me 5 loyal years of service and until recently when I started noticing lag from the infamous (rainbow colored) wheel of death that shows up everytime my computer fails to compute-I have not had the need to replace it. They last long which is great considering how fast the turn over is for electronics these days. This 13.3 retina mac, while arguably an offering from late 2012 is still very current. It has the same exact specs as the feb 2013 versions with the exception of the bumped up speed of .1ghz, which in my opinion is highly negligible. It is also worth noting that this offering was over $500+ dollars more when it was first released at a price point of about $2,199.00 for the same specs offered here. This is a substantial savings for a highly capable and well made machine. If you consider the offering they have at the apple store, a feb 2013 macbook retina 13 with 2.5 ghz i5, 8RAM, 256Flash will cost you $1,699. If you are considering the upgraded version at 3.0 ghz i7, you'll have to pay an additional $200 for the upgrade + tax at about $115. Just the base model retina 13 is about the same price of this offering for better specs. A no brainer in my opinion if you are already set in purchasing a new mac anyway.

Performancewise, I have no complaints. The new trackpad took a bit of getting used to as I was accustomed to the old model track pad with the left and right click buttons on the bottom but other than that, everything about this mac is just perfect. The display is stunning specially for doing editing work and even just reading documents. The details just pop out and are absolutely superb. I tried watching a subpar quality movie online and even that looked great on the retina. The i7 dual core 2.9 ghz processor gives this machine an umph that i've never experienced before using other computers. It is speedy and very responsive. It can take multitasking jobs easily without issues, load videos quickly and can even do light gaming without a hitch. Overall, this is just a well made computer that's worth every penny. You won't regret getting it I assure you. So, if you're in the market for a new computer... get this one! Great value, great price for a super reliable product.

I spent A LOT of time debating which macbook pro was going to meet my needs. I wanted something to use mostly for photography and web while away from home (at home I use a Mac Mini, 2010 hooked up to a Dell U2412 which is excellent for photo editing). As a serious amateur photographer, I use Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS6 heavily. My concern was having enough juice to power these two programs with speed and ease. Most reviews recommended getting the 15" MBP as it offered a quad core and separate graphics card to handle the editing load. Having spent some time in the Apple Store, I knew that the 15" was just too big for me. I contemplated getting the regular MBP without retina as that machine offers the option to upgrade at a later time, which unfortunately the retina does not....but after seeing the screen on the retina, I just couldn't do it. So....I had decided on the retina MBP 13", but what about hard drives? I REALLY wanted the SSD, but the price was tough to swallow. I finally settled on this version. I knew that 8GB RAM would be sufficient, as that is what I have in my 2010 Mac Mini, and it's perfectly adequate to handle my editing. I also knew that 3 years makes a world of difference in technology, so even with the same RAM, the laptop would probably be faster. I was hesitant on the 236GB SSD drive, but knew that 128 was completely insufficient and I didn't want to drop the big cash for the 512 version.....so, I settled for this, knowing that I won't be dumping lots of programs on it and will keep my high res. photos on a portable drive anyway.

I can tell you that this computer is phenomenal. It is probably about 10x faster than my Mac Mini and the boot up time of the SSD is a dream. It handles Lightroom and Photoshop with ease. The screen is a bit small on real estate, but the clarity of the retina more than makes up for the space. This is the perfect "on the road" laptop for me. Now, if you are looking to make this your main computer, you may want to think twice. I just don't think it would suffice. You'd probably want to invest in the 15" with more power and perhaps skip the retina so you can upgrade in the future....but for travel, I couldn't be happier with this snappy machine!

Acer Aspire E1-571-6888 15.6-Inch Laptop (Glossy Black)

Just purchased this laptop recently and I am really happy with it. Build quality seems very solid. the lid is glossy but the inside around the keyboard and track pad are not which is nice, as far as I can tell it doesn't get smear marks like the gloss.

The Intel core i3 processor seems to have the speed I need. I am able to run all the desktop applications that I use on my desktop which has an Intel core i7 in it.

The integrated Intel HD 4000 performs well in video situations such as Youtube and Hulu, I haven't had any issues. I tried Minecraft, Portal 2 and varies other low end games on this system. Minecraft runs about 20 FPS and Portal 2 runs awesome with all the settings as high as they can go. Considering this is not a gaming system I think that's pretty good and works well for light gaming.

I like that the system supports up to 8GB of memory.

One thing I don't care for as an IT Tech, the BIOS is locked down. I can only change a few settings. The BIOS is called insydeh20, I feel if that is installed there should at least be a way to disable it.

Last note: there is no Bluetooth which I actually thought all laptops had.

Overall this is a solid system and has some nice features to go with it. This is an excellent system for my needs.

One note, setting the supervisor password for the BIOS allows you to change a few extra settings.

I bought this laptop today from my computer guy. It was brand new, I'm the one that actually cut open the box. I had him upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB, and it flies! I recommend this computer for anyone looking for a nice, stable computer. Upgrade the RAM if you get a chance and just sit back and enjoy! I usually don't write reviews on Amazon if I didn't buy it on Amazon, but this computer is worth it. The best laptop I've had since my last Acer in 2009. I have since had a Toshiba and Sony, also both good computers. This is just what I've wanted for, not only speed, but convenience, as this is a lighter laptop then the rest have been.

I'm a college student and this was by far the best computer for me. Whether you're just doing light browsing or doing some gaming like world of warcraft or sims 3, this laptop can handle it. One thing that bothers me is the trackpad, I keep on hitting it whenever I type moving the cruiser and the place of where I'm typing. Dell Latitude D810 Wireless Laptop Bluetooth PC Computer, Windows XP

I ordered this laptop because of its legacy hardware ( serial ports, LPT ports, USB ports, and above all else, Windows xp pro)the purchase / checkout offered 2nd day delivery, yet took over 1 week to arriveAfter arriving, inspecting the laptop, it was carefully wrapped, no visible damage was present.

After putting everything together, plugging in the power cord, i get an error message that no hard drive is present, i go into the bios, and to my amazement, its still locked with a password, that no one knows-i pulled the Hard drive module out, and inspect everything, i find that the mini IDE header is missing a pin,

i emailed the seller this issue, he sends out another hard drivea week goes by, and it finally arrives, i opened the package, and notice, it does not have the replacement header that i need to make the hard drive work.

Frustrated, i get back on amazon, and search for this header adaptor, lo and behold, for 1.72 each, i buy 5 just to have them around in case i decide to buy another hard drive from these sellers that do not check everything fully.

If i had been an everyday normal 'joe-the-consumer', this would have been a disasterous exchange. i gave a low rating because, when you sell something, regardless what it looks like, it should be functional before you ship, (tested, and tried)

I purchased my D810 with windows XP refurbished from Tampa Laptops.

It is a good solid machine. The screen appears to be wider. It is a heavier machine. I notice it on those times when I need to carry it a ways. Not alot but more than some other computers. It has a very solid cabinet. Nice sized keyboard is easy to type on. Once in a while the keyboard gets warm. My battery on this used one is running around 3-1/2 hours on a charge which I consider fine. The battery of course varries on used machines due to it's condition. But this tells you that a good battery runs for a good length of time. I like the machine. I am runing lots of older vintage software like the great Lotus stuff, etc and wanted to upgrade computers but not throw out all my software that won't run on the newer Windows Systems. This was a great purchase at a nice price.

I personally think everything about this laptop is flawless. I have owned the asus ultrabook and an ipad and several asus tablets like the transformer 300 and such in the past. This laptop is a combination of all the great things of the 3 devices about with only 2 cons (battery life and a bit on the heavy side) in my opinion.

I spend every waking moment on a laptop for work, and pleasure. This thing goes with me everywhere. Its a little heavier than the ipad but it blows it out of the water in so many other respects.

First off, let me tell you, the only reason I am comparing this device to an ipad is becuase it has an excellent touch screen functionality that has allowed me to work on it full time using only the touch screen. I have had tablets in the past, and (besides the ipad) they have never been able to function for me smooth enough without frustration.

But i digress, here are the pros and cons

Pros: Speed (fastest processor currently available)

Functionality (full windows 8 platform can run any program smoothly, even games)

Touch (smooth and silky and responsive, pen is good for precision if you have too fat fingers for the high resolution

Sound quality (outstanding stereo hands down better than any of the other 3 devices i mentioned)

cons: heavy and battery life 3 hours only without extra battery

If you want to read books, buy a kindle. If you want to read books, watch movies, play a game bought from an app store...buy a kindle, or an Ipad. If you want to actually get things done on your computer. Load powerful software (the kind that costs more than $.99. This is the computer I have been waiting for and so far I love it. The processor is fast. The machine is responsive. And I can put any software for windows I want on it. I considered the Surface pro, the Samsung Ativ 700t and even a Sony vaio Tap 20. Because I got an awesome deal I went with this one and I have not been one tiny bit disappointed. It's power belies its size. I am running a Dell u3011 monitor through it. No lag, no problems. I have an ipad, which was great for the above mentioned uses. But I could never get any real work done on it. I wanted something that I could lay in bed, sit on the couch, use on the train to work in lightroom, photoshop, corel painter, adobe illustrator, and I found it. While I am also building a workstation desktop, this is serving as my main computer for now and it has not let me down once. And let me tell you something. I got rid of my MacBook Pro 17 inch to go to this computer and it was a great decision. I can't recommend this machine enough to people who want to do more than play on their machine.

Pros: Size, cool factor, 8gb Ram, 256GB SSD, built in HDMI output, beautiful screen, I can use it as a tablet when I feel like it and use it to do actual work. The best part? REAL WINDOWS! I'm not locked into anyone's "App store" anymore.

Cons: the keyboard takes some getting used to. I wish it had a DVI out for using my monitor at full 2550 x 1600 Resolution instead of the limitations of HDMI and VGA.

I just got this a few days ago after much research and trying to decide between it and the Lenovo Yoga and couldn't be happier with the choice. I got the extra battery and can go for days between charges (although I'm not a serious gamer and only use it a few hours a day mostly for business) unlike my HP with less than 1 1/2 hour battery life. I set it up to use my Microsoft presenter/mouse, but with the digitizer stylus and optical sensor, I haven't had to use the mouse yet...and may never have to. And I'm using the stylus much more than I thought.

It's amazing how little things make a big difference. With this device, you just take it out of its case or whatever, turn it on and start using it. If you need the keyboard (and I use that less than I expected so far), just pop up the screen. With the Lenovo, you have to first open it, turn it all the way around if you want to use it as a tablet, turn it on, and then use it. Those extra steps are just a pain.

Windows 8 does take some getting used to, but I haven't found anything I don't like about it once I figure out how to use the various features. And there is a lack of documentation on how to use the apps, e.g., Note Anywhere looks like a great product, but learning it is trial & error.

Another big plus is the connectivity. I do a lot of PowerPoint presentations, often using clients' projectors...which "all" have a VGA connector. With the Duo, I don't have to carry a VGA adapter dongle just plug it in. Ditto with the full size HDMI port and SD slot.

My HP laptop is now my "desktop computer" and one of the issues I've been wresting with is how to sync the two since they both run Windows & Microsoft Office. Files can be handled by putting them in the cloud, but email & calendars in Outlook were a problem. After much research (again), I decided to go with Office 365 on both computers (and on my Windows phone which I'll get whenever a good one comes out) it's working flawlessly so far.

Amazingly, this computer is rated at about 3 stars by professional reviewers and a solid 5 stars by users/owners go figure.

This is a really good laptop. It is a laptop, not a tablet, although there are certainly times the tablet functionality is rather handy. As a laptop, it is great. Very fast, in all respects. The high resolution screen allows a great deal of information to be on the screen at once (eg excel columns) even thought it is a relatively small screen. So you have the best of all worlds, a small device, with a very useful screen for doing real work. Once you are used to the mouse mechanism, it works as good as any track pad (although, like every laptop I have owned for 10 years, I keep a wireless mouse handy for when I am at a table or desk). The small keyboard is NOT too small, you can type on it as well as any other keyboard, and I have big hands.

I really, really like it.

Dell Inspiron 700m

Purchased directly from Dell in Spring, 2004. Still working although I just replaced the OEM power cord with a cheap one from Amazon. Now it charges great and cosmetically it still looks and runs like new.

Some people have had issues with the OEM power cord. Mine worked fine for about 4 yrs. but it became very inefficient and the 'brick' started getting way to hot, but all is good now that I replaced the original adapter.

While the 700m is not as slick as my newer Apple MBP, Win XP Pro is still running fine and all my cool PC games are loaded on it so I hope it lasts 7 more years!

A very lightweight notebook(even lighter than my old Sony VAIO) so it is easy to travel with.

I own 2 batteries the original and a 3rd party battery with longer capacity. The newer battery lasts about 4 hrs unless I watch DVDs and play games continuously. That runs it down in about 2 hrs.

all that needs to be said is if i could find another version of this laptop today, i would buy it again! it is super compact, almost like a netbook, but still has a cd/dvd player.. which a lot of netbooks don't.

i just bought a dell 14 to upgrade, but it just doesn't compare to my little 700m :(

I just purchased Dell's newest laptop XPS 15z, wonderful, thin, lots of good

components...but, I can't get it onto my home wireless network. After a long,

protracted and repitive discussion with a Dell tech, she wanted to sell me

some additional software because the new computer already had fragmented

files, etc. (it was diagnosed over the web). I had not even started loading my

Photoshop CS2, or any other programs.

At the same time, my little, old, slow Inspiron 700m goes online (wireless),

does the job albeit very slowly but it does it!

I thought buying from Dell again would be good but it is just frustrating and

time consuming no matter the cost of the product! What a fool am I!

I had this laptop for six years, it lasted me through college and grad school. It has a truly beautiful screen, and having a dvd-cd drive is really convenient. Between the optical drive, the nice display, and the faster processor I like this a lot better than my netbook.

Sadly, the motherboard on mine fried after six years, and I am bereaved. It's been two months, and I'm seriously thinking of getting a second used one, because once you upgrade the RAM to have at least a gig then this is a really powerful machine for how small it is, and I've really missed that in my netbook even if the battery life is lacking in the Inspiron. (You'll have about half an hour for movies or games, though it can do about two hours of word processing on a new battery.)

We bought our 700M the year we were moving from New England to Florida (2006). After moving a lot of stuff, including the big computer, to the new house in the winter of 2005/06, we returned north to pack up the rest of the household items. The 700M came with us and was our "only" computer for almost 6 months. We picked up a Kensington USB hub with ports for a parallel printer, an external monitor and a serial keyboard and mouse, and we used the laptop like a CPU for most of the time, connected directly to our cable internet provider.

When the time came to hit the road, the laptop came with us and worked great with hotel hookups, cable, dial up and wi-fi. Because of the small size (and light weight), the keyboard is a bit small for real fast typing and the screen is a bit small, but very clear and bright. Now I am still using it for travel, and also for sitting on the patio or on the couch to read emails and surf the web. It has all the features I have ever needed, plus plenty of computing power and storage. And it looks really cool!! I dread the day this little laptop dies...I don't know what I will replace it with, maybe an upscale netbook, if they are still around.

Dell Inspiron 15 (1545)Laptop Notebook PC (Jet Black)

I hate this laptop. Since day one, I've had nothing but problems. Problems with the keyboard, the mouse, internet access, speed, etc. Customer service is not helpful whatsoever. This is my first Dell and DEFINITELY will be my last. I hate it with pure passion.

Computer gets very warm on the bottom and would not sync up with our wireless router-called Dell SEVERAL times-got cut off (hung up on "accidentally"?) three times and had to start over again. Customer service in India kept passing me off to different people until finally, got hung up on again. As soon as you say you want to send it back to Dell, they don't care about you. At one point I was told that for a fee they could help me connect to the internet! Alas, I am packing it up and sending it back from whence it came! I wish I could write about the features but I only had it for 3 days and couldn't get online so I can't coment. Dell Customer Care leaves much to be desired-NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY DELL!!

I bought this computer a few months back and I have found it to be solid, reliable, and well worth the reasonable price.

Things go wrong with computers all the time. For the other commenters to assert that THIS particular model of Dell is sub-par is just unfair. Its the luck of the draw if you ask me.

Anyways, for me it was well worth the money and a great investment.

Really great machine in all aspects. The processor is fast and I haven't had any major problems since owning it. Also nice is the battery life has remained constant since I've bought it. Would definitely recommend!
