HP G62-234DX Laptop Notebook / Intel Core i3-350M Processor / 15.6" LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memor

HP G62-234DX Laptop Notebook / Intel Core i3-350M Processor / 15.6' LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 250GB HD / Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW /Built-in HP Webcam & Microphone /Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit / BiscottiI purchased this notebook so I could have something to sit around in the living room, coffee shop and/or occasional work trip. I am generally a MAC person, but this computer has worked pretty well for me, since I sometimes want to use a PC and my work uses PC's.

If you don't want an iPad, do want a "real" keyboard, but also think that netbooks are too small (especially the keyboard) and limited (smaller hard drive), then this is a good size. It's thin enough to slip in a back pack or carry on, and still enjoy a vivid screen, yet not so big as a 17 inch screen, that it should be considered a desktop.

Since I am a writer (at home and work), I like the "regular" sized keyboard, although the touch "mouse" pad is too close to the space bar that sometimes my thumb hits it and moves the cursor.

The computer boots up pretty quick, and if it sleeps or the battery looses power, it seems to restore it self pretty quickly, which I like very much.

Since I am a MAC person, there are several things I don't like about running MS products, including: OUTLOOK DID NOT COME WITH THE VERSION OF MS "OFFICE" THAT I BOUGHT (but then I just downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and am just fine not paying more to MS thank you very much). It is especially annoying that Outlook does not come with the computer, since such a solid email/calendar program come standard with a MAC. Also, there are way more software notifications and "reminders" that constantly pop up that are annoying.

I do like the way Windows now organizes "Libraries" of "Documents," "Pictures," etc., very much like a MAC (no doubt, that's where MS got the idea).

My notebook had an HDMI output, which is great when you want to hook it up to a TV at home or at a hotel on a business trip, if your hotel has a HD tv with HDMI. This latter feature is great, since that means you can watch Netflix in your hotel room on the road.

The wifi works great. It was pretty easy to get it up and running for web surfing at home and in coffee shops.

There's more I like, but the size and functionality have been great: Not to big, not to small, great screen, plenty of HD space for general purposes, plenty of speed for skype etc., just very pleased.

HP generally puts out some very nice products. This G62 is very fast, and I love Win7 over Vista.

BUT... and a BIG BUT...

There are new keys added to the left side of the keyboard... application keys... say you use CTRL a lot... your little finger automatically reaches for the furthests most bottom left key.. you hit it without out looking (like most good typists)...

BOOM, the Calculator pops up!!! Who the heck put THAT button there?

Same w/ CAPS LOCK... and TAB... and Shift etc. The only standard location key they left alone is the ESC key. Personally, I use CTRL and CAPS and TAB a whole heck of a lot more than the ESC key.

Nice response to the keyboard, nice monitor, fast processor, lovely Win7

BUT DANG, who was the non-genius who put those new keys on the far left hand side??

My suggestion: Find a different HP (or other) laptop, where the keyboard is standard.

Good computer until the Motherboard died at 16 months. Costs 200.00 plus labor so the computer is shot. I will likely buy a different brand.

Sony VAIO VGN-FW350J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB

Sony VAIO VGN-FW350J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop GrayThese are the things that sold me on this particular VAIO:

Under $1000

Huge resolution (1600x900)

Blu-Ray

Wireless N

Amazing dolby sound

Keyboard has independently isolated keys

The fact that it is relatively light weight and looks amazing was just a bonus.

Some impressions after several days of use:

The touchpad is superior to those on dell laptops I've owned.

The speaker is huge, it spans almost the width of the entire laptop.

The media buttons, especially av mode, are slick.

Blu-ray playback is flawless.

Battery life out of the box was about 3 hours, but using heavily optimized settings (in vaio control center) I've achieved upwards of 5 hours.

Webcam+Mic+Speakers = very high quality skype calls, better than my bluetooth headset.

The location of the power button and charging plug-in is really, really slick.

Only frustration:

I have not been able to output via HDMI at 1080p, despite being hooked up to a 42" 1080P LCD. 720P works fine, but for some unknown reason 1080P is grayed out in the settings.

Hello everyone including Sony technitions.

First it's important to know that the laptop arrives with the default set at 720p and must be manually changed to 1080p when utilizing the HDMI connection.

Next is you must change the viewing to only external monitor otherwise you cannot watch a Bluray dvd. You will recieve a security problem issue which will not allow you to proceed watching the movie if both the laptop monitor and the TV are viewable at the same time.

I guess someone feels you're attempting to make a illegal copy?

Next is really important especially to all Disney Bluray DVD owners.

When you watch the previews of coming attractions everything looks and sounds great on your Sony TV from the laptop HDMI connection.

However, when the movie plays you will lose the sound. NO SOUND!

Even the Sony technitions were baffled.

Here's the reason....

The Disney soundtrack is automatically default set for 7.1 surround sound.

You cannot hear the sound at this default setting.

You must access the DVD setup menu and change the audio to ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK.

This happened with "Sleeping Beauty", "Pinochio" & Wall-E.

I only own these 3 Bluray DVD's so no one could figure out why I wasn't hearing the sound when the movie played.

Also, I might add that the movies play great on the laptop no matter which audio track you utilize.

This problem only happens with the HDMI connection to a TV such as my new Sony KDL-46XBR6.

The only other item I will mention is the volume on the laptop is really low when watching a movie so plan to use headphones or an external powered speaker when a little noise is in your enviroment.

I plan to keep this laptop because overall it performs great even with Windows Vista installed.

UPDATE:

I contacted tech support at Sony again and this time talked to someone who knew what the problem was and changed a setting on my laptop.

The result is that all Bluray DVD's will play okay with 7.1 surround sound thru the HDMI port.

Buy Sony VAIO VGN-FW350J/H 16.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Now

My old Sony died unexpectedly, so I needed a system that was ready to go, not one to order customized, as it shipped faster. I looked at other brands, but knowing how great the Sonys are for graphics I decided to stick with what I love.

This laptop is terrific as far as brightness and clarity of display. I've never seen brighter, and I work on friends laptops all the time. I couldn't ask for better. The 4GB of RAM and Windows 64 bit Vista are very responsive. My only complaint with the 64 bit version is I've already found a couple of common software programs that are not 64-bit compatible.

I'd highly recommend this laptop for out-of-the-box readiness to go.

I was pretty happy with it until I checked the hard drive space: only 287 GB out of 320 GB AND no other partition! Where did the remaining 33 GB go? There usually is a partition that adds up to the total number of GB.

I like the color (gray) and it's a pretty good deal for the price. Bluetooth and wireless N!!

I purchased this product in February and after 4 months I can state that this is a great value purchase. It's hard to find a comparable product with Blu-Ray etc. from a name that is known for great products and great customer service (Sony).

Pro's: Beautiful display, Blu-Ray drive, light-weight (for the screen size), price

Con's: Limited battery life, When upgrading to Windows 7 (Evaluation Copy) the shortcut keys become disabled with no patch/fix out from Sony yet, relatively low speaker volume.

This is a dream machine for the basic PC user, just open it up, plug it in and you are good to go. Out of the box it takes about 10-15 minutes to enter your information and register the product with Sony. Once you get to getting you feel for it you will notice that the display is amazing (especially when playing a blu-ray player). If you are using this as a desktop replacement you should definitely have external speakers to use with it due to the limited volume output from the built-ins.

My only issue is if you are like me and feel the urge to upgrade to Windows 7, beware that the "short-cut/quick keys" for media playing (pause, volume up & down and the s1 button etc.) will be disabled with no fix yet from Sony.

Hope this helps!

Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch LaptopAfter my overpriced, underperforming, Vista disabled HP laptop died on me, I shopped around for a good deal on a budget priced, reliable laptop. Asus is the only laptop brand that has better reliability than Toshiba (see ). When I checked the Toshibas, this is the model they were pushing (and apparently, still are). It's got an even bigger screen than I expected. It has a full size keyboard with a number pad on the right. It's a little large for carting around, but it is incredibly high performing with a great display. When I put a tumb drive in to copy some folders and files, I wondered why it wasn't working. I was used to watching the little folder transfer icons on my HP. Well, I was wrong it did work. It just worked so quickly I didn't even see it. It transferred a ton of data in the blink of an eye. I've only had it a month, so I can't speak to longevity. But the battery life is reasonably good, and it's a great computer especially at the price!

This is a pretty good laptop for what your going to pay but there are some things that could use some work. The touchpad is a pain. While trying to move around a page, it constantly zooms in or out or slides the entire page down. That can be very annoying if you are working on a paper or something like that. I suggest if you buy this laptop to invest in an external mouse and just turn the touchpad off. Also, the speakers are terrible. If you plan on using this laptop to listen to music or stream movies, invest in some headphones or an external speaker.

Other than that, it does what I need it to do and, again, for the price, I don't think you will find a better laptop. It runs nice and cool and is silent as a mouse.

Buy Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Now

I'm typing this just thinking about what I wanted to know before I bought so this will be very back and forth as I'm thinking. For the price this is a great laptop. This one is replacing and older desktop that is close to death so I'm not picky. I like the number keypad but if you don't like having that like some people then don't buy a laptop with the number pad so you can't complain. I can actually type without having to turn off the touch pad unlike other laptops I've used. The lock for the touch pad is below the space bar so it would be easy to turn off if you end up with problems typing. It's also great to have the multi touch touch pad to zoom in and out. I can find the delete, number lock and insert keys easily so that's good. The backup took about an hour and used 3 DVD disk to complete plus one disk for the system repair disk. It has a great screen for watching Hulu unless you are use to extremely large screens. The speakers are good for a laptop. Really do you expect much from laptop speakers? I turned up the volume on both the player and main volume control and could back up where multiple people could watch and hear. They are better than other laptop speakers I have used where you have to hover inches from the screen to hear or use headphones. I'm happy with it. The web cam did well with Skype. It has a microphone which low end laptops don't always have. The blue light to tell you the web cam is on is a little bright but maybe that will help when in low light. Plus you'll know when you're on camera when it activates and blinds you for a couple of seconds. I'm having to get use to the windows 7 but already like the ease of sharing files with my wife's laptop. I haven't tested the battery life yet but everything I read said it has really long life if you use the correct settings with dimmer display and short time before sleep kicks in. I set mine to that when not plugged in but always awake when plugged in for when I use it to play videos. I'll see how the battery life does this weekend while out of town. I don't notice it getting hot. I don't hear much mechanical noise unless the fan to the left kicks on but that's not often. If you are use to a more expensive laptop you may say this is a loud laptop. There is extra software added but I think that's fairly usual and I don't see much extra crap to be removed. With a 20% discount this was the same price as some other's I was looking at (also at a discount) but it had a larger hard drive by 150GB and a GB more memory. The one thing I didn't read that I don't like is that the memory card slot only takes the SD style cards/adapters. My wife's much cheaper Acer has a multi card reader that will accept SD style and XD. We have Olympus cameras that use the XD cards. I can use an adapter or just upload to her laptop and transfer to mine so I'm not too upset over this. It probably is written somewhere in the specs but I just didn't see it. I hope this answers any questions you have. I used the laptop last night without the cord and the battery life is great. It ran for about 4 hours before I got the 10% warning. I also hadn't turned on the eco utility until the last 30 minutes which dims the screen by 1 level, turns off unimportant programs and resets the standby to about 2 minutes of unuse. I'm sure with that it would easily reach the 5 hour battery life that is in the specs. It does have a cool chart when using the eco utility that shows the amount of power being used at that moment. Normal use when I checked was around 20-25 watts and the eco utility on setting dropped it to 8-10 watts.

I can't say enough good things about this laptop. Fires right up, nicely responsive, easy to use. I thought I was really going to struggle with the concept of using a finger pad instead of a mouse, but this computer makes it so easy, it's a pain-free way to learn the different cursor-moving technique. I LOVE the numeric key-pad that is included in the alpha section of the keyboard, because that makes it more like a desk top keyboard for me.

When the power consumption is set to 'Eco', it can run for five hours on a single charge, depending on what you are doing. The screen is beautiful and crisp. I view a lot of my photos on it and they present very nicely on this Toshiba. It weighs just under five pounds, considerably lighter than many full-size laptops I have seen, so I don't mind taking it with me when I go somewhere.

The only problem I have encountered (and the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5) is that I cannot get it to stream video without stopping and starting. I haven't read any other reviews that mention this issue, so it might just be my IP connection, or it is exclusive to mine, like a glitch, but it is severe enough to reduce the star count in my opinion. I don't use this computer for that purpose often, so it won't present much of a problem for me in the long run, but it needed to be mentioned.

The outer shell is attractively shiny, but it is a HUGE finger-print magnet. I promptly got a protective skin for it. I would highly recommend that to anyone considering this... or you will constantly be cleaning it, or walking around with a nasty-looking, grubbed-up device.

I don't understand the complaints about the fan running; it seldom does, and when it does, it's not for long and I often use this laptop sitting on a pillow on my lap.

I also don't understand the complaints about the speakers. I didn't buy it to listen to music... and the speakers work just fine for the things you need to hear. If you want 'nice speakers', buy a nice stereo or some surround-sound for your television. This laptop easily gets the job done, but it's not going to make your bed or fold the laundry for you. Unless you're the kind of person that buys a sofa hoping you will be able to drive it to the store, or a coffee maker hoping it will make breakfast for you, this laptop is a GREAT portable computer.

Want Toshiba Satellite L655-S5158 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Discount?

This laptop was purchased to assist me in day-to-day tasks associated with my job.

I currently work in the IT field and need a stable, working, quick laptop to assist me with repairs.

Toshiba has always built, what I consider, a high quality product.

This laptop is no different.

For the price, the Intel Core i3 processor really delivers.

After removing most of what I consider "bloatware", there wasn't a whole lot, the computer ran just as fast as it would have with a fresh install of Windows 7.

The screen is bright an vivid.

The keyboard is excellent.

The mouse pad feels good, you can always tell you're on it thanks to the grainy matte finish.

The laptop is surprisingly light for a 15" screen.

The fan noise, as some have reported, has not been an issue for me at all.

If you're considering a new laptop for everything but gaming, this is a very good product.

I recommend Toshiba against any other laptop brand.

I love the toshiba satellite line. They are simply the most economical, with the least repair rate, and the most computer. Bought this system for my in-laws @ Xmas who are in love. I spent the same amount for myself last year for a smaller screen, less options, and not quite as pretty. Wish I had simply bought two of them.

still working well. have had a hdd break down, which isnt all bad as i was able to get an ssd hybrid drive for $50. decided to upgrade the ram as well. like a new computer. prob keep me going for another 2-3 years at least. still super happy.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z560 Series 09143NU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Lenovo IdeaPad Z560 Series 09143NU 15.6-Inch LaptopWell for one its nice to see that as i sit here and type this review on the computer itself, Lenovo have ditched the old looking IBM thinkpad method and made the modern mac book look stylish and great. This computer is great, oddly enough i got it at office depot, the regular price was 679$ and they are running a special on it now for 499$, yep you heard right. This will only last till 1/15/11 though, get it. I purchased a Toshiba(which i like) but it had the cruddy old AMD turion(which i hate) processor and was slow as a 80 year old woman climbing out of the bath tub. I didnt even realize they had the Toshiba(let alone this) until i actually saw it on the website. So after being disappointed with the Toshiba and its lack luster performance, i saw this on there as well. So i ran back and said hey you don't even have this out yet, so for the price i want it instead, no problem. Also the Toshiba was 549$ with tax! So see it pays to shop around.

I opened this up not knowing what to expect since i couldnt tell much from the picture on the web. Well i was so pleased to see if was the Macbook/Sony silver metallic look with the separated chicklet type keyboard. Also you can't get a better deal for an I3, and this is the 380m running at 2.53ghz. It rates at 6.8 for windows calculations. Thats nearly as much as my gaming desktop with the Core 2 quad running at 2.67ghz which rates at 7.2. Can't beat that. So i'm still in the early stages but i can say already i'm very fond of this, and this keyboard is amazing, especially since i type overly fast. The speakers are loud and crisp, software for burning is good, web cam look great, also i like the way you can set up for it to recognize you through just your image or a message. Pretty cool. This thing is fast as lighting also which is the big seller for me. So time will tell if ole Lenovo(which bought IBM years ago) will stand the test of time. Lets hope its bark is just as bad as its bite and it holds on for many years. Wish me luck, and go pick one up for yourself!

First off, the construction quality is great: the rigidity of the handrest and keyboard areas is comparable to a macbook. Additionally, the keyboard is delicious. The keys are much smaller than the ones I'm used to from my iMac, and are much more comfortable, so I've found I can type faster and for longer periods of time, once you get used to them. The touch-sensitive shortcuts above the keyboard are useful if you are watching movies and want to change the screen settings, want to change speed/battery life settings, or are working around sleeping people and want to keep the fan speed down. The function key shortcuts are also useful if you want to shut off the backlight or connect to a TV or projector. The graphics are decent, playing counterstrike was no issue, and modeling in sketchup and blender was smooth, but that is the extent of my use for it.

Now the bad: coming from a mac, I expected the screen brightness and volume controls to be easier to use (they are function keys on my old computers), but you have to use the Fn key and the arrow keys. The screen's aspect ratio is nice for watching movies or hulu, but frustrating to word process or web surf until you get used to scrolling often (again, used to my 15.6" powerbook's ratio). By far the worst piece of hardware is the trackpad: it is abrasive and will randomly select text. The buttons are recessed and difficult to use compared to, say, a Toshiba (or macbook), I suggest buying a trackball or mouse.

Also, contrary to an earlier review, there are 3 USB ports (one is integrated in the eSATA port).

Buy Lenovo IdeaPad Z560 Series 09143NU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Now

Be Sure of the specs. This one does not have the ATI graphics as mentioned. It comes with Integrated graphics only. Laptop is fast but the screen is not very sharp. Webcam is only 0.3MP so can not expect much from it. Speakers are average or may be a notch below. If you are looking for an all purpose machine, you may have better options available for the price. Overall, this laptop is passable at best.

All I can say is WOW! I got this laptop while it was on sale from tigerdirect for $469.99. All I can say is I was expecting some sort of budget laptop for that price, but I ended up with something that feels like a Mac and runs Linux and Windows at crazy speeds. The keyboard is great once you are used to it, the touchpad is a little small and the buttons have a little give to them but those are the only bad traits I can think of. I usually use a wireless mouse, so even that has no effect on me. I usually use the laptop as a desk station to work on 3d imaging, email correspondence, occasional gaming and that sort of thing, Blender runs really well. CoD: MW1 runs great on the lower graphics settings (I was getting 25+ fps even without a dedicated graphics card)I have it hooked up to a 22 inch monitor, and it is running 1680x1024 graphics on that without showing a spike in either RAM or CPU usage. All I can say is I love it. I would suggest it as a perfect buy for anyone looking for a high quality laptop that will preform most tasks well.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 14" Business Notebook PC - 6271-56U

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 14' Business Notebook PC - 6271-56UThe 13.3" screen laptop weighing less than 5 lbs. are the ideal dimensions for a business laptop. A few years ago, there were a number of business and consumer laptops with these dimensions selling for $500-700. However, with Apple's success with the MacBook Pros, other PC manufacturers started copying Apple with higher priced ultrabooks. Now, it is practically impossible to find a 13.3" notebook that costs less than $1,000. This leaves the folks pinching pennies with the less than ideal 14" notebooks.

I have owned this laptop for a few days and I have listed some of my observations. I will update this review if I find any glaring deficiencies.

With stock parts, the machine scored 2,200 on the PC Mark 7 and a 5.0 on the Windows Experience Index (WEI). The graphics performance on Windows Aero was the lagging metric on WEI at 5.0.

Pros:

1. Intel i5-3210M Processor – It might be the slowest i5 processor in the market right now but it's still good. It should run most office applications with aplomb.

2. Size and weight – The size and weight of this laptop is just right (almost). It has a 14" screen that has a maximum screen resolution of 1366x768 (720p). It weighs 4.7 lbs so you can carry it or lug it along your bag without too much effort.

3. Expandability – It has a PCI Express Mini Card free. This gives the users the option of adding an mSATA drive to improve the laptop's performance. After adding a Plextor 64GB mSATA SSD, the scores jumped to 3,700 on the PC Mark 7. The main WEI score stayed the same at 5.0 but the Hard Disk score was significantly improved at 7.8 from 5.9. Users can also expand the memory to 16GB (according to the Lenovo software) and the hard disk. For some reason, Lenovo only offers the 1TB drives at 5,400 rpm. I believe it was a technical decision to keep the laptop cool.

4. Price – It may be last year's model, but the performance and value are really at a sweet spot. You will be hard pressed to find another laptop with the same price/performance at less than $600.

5. Good documentation – Lenovo provides a Hardware Maintenance guide to help users upgrade their laptop. It is a pretty comprehensive guide that even shows users how to replace the LCD and motherboard.

Cons:

1. Ctrl and Fn keys are switched – This is not a big deal though since you can switch the keys in the BIOS.

2. Some LED indicators are missing – For some reason the hardware engineers at Lenovo decided to ditch some of the indicator lights. There are no indicator lights for Caps Lock, wifi and the Hard Disk. In fact, the only lights that you will see are the small red lights indicating power on and a small green light on the right side indicating battery charging.

3. Relatively low memory and Hard Disk space This is also not a big deal because of the low price and good documentation. Instead of configuring the laptop on the Lenovo website, you can just buy a prepackaged one and upgrade it at a lower cost. Upgrading this laptop on your own should take a few hours at most.

4. No Windows 7 media – Users need to make a copy of the Windows 7 recovery disks on DVD or a thumb drive. In addition, there's a lot of documentation on the web showing how to write your own Windows 7 copy on DVD or USB. Lenovo provides recovery disks for Windows 8.

I upgraded the memory to 8GB with Kingston HyperX sticks and the Hard Disk to 1 TB with a Toshiba hard disk. The final benchmarks with all the modifications are 4,300+ on PC Mark 7 and 6.5 on the Windows Experience Index. The 30% increase in Windows Aero performance indicates that the stock 4GB in memory may be too low and was affecting graphics performance. Overall, I find this laptop to be a solid value buy. It is a 4-star laptop at stock but a potential 5-star machine with the right upgrades.

it is not as perfect as I thought before.

some noisy!!

be sure to pay attention to the place of "Ctrl", "Fn" and "PrtSc" buttons. its not as usual.

also, you need to press "Fn" button to activate F1 to F12 buttons!!! that's awful!!

look at the youtube links about this product.

but overall, its price is low and it is not a heavy laptop.

HP Pavilion dv4t 14.1' LaptopI bought a HP dv4t a bit over a year ago and it has already started to fall apart. the software runs fine, but this laptop tends to get really hot, even if i am just watching a movie. i cannot even play any games on it due to this overheating issue. i even bought a laptop cooler and it still gets too hot. Also, this laptop remains at my home and i am really careful about it. But something is already loose inside and the keyboard is dipping on the right side. When i open the screen, it gives this crackle and this worries me. For this price, i recommend getting some other brand that is more sturdy and wont fall apart after a year.

I bought the laptop 13 months ago and after 2 months, the battery was unable to hold a charge anymore so it was no longer portable. HP claims that the 1 year warranty covers everything EXCEPT batteries and it will cost $150 to replace. Now, 13 months later, the screen is DEAD and wont project. HP claims my warranty expired 2 weeks ago and it will cost $482 to replace (which 80% what I payed for the laptop to begin with...not including replacing the battery for $150). Did I mention that the replacement battery no longer holds a charge anymore? when I unplug it, it only lasts 6 minutes!! Avoid at ALL costs!! It is a money pit and HP won't stand by their products at ALL unless you pay crazy amounts of money. Please learn from my mistake!

Excellent and capable laptop. Had to install XP as vista Home was a bit sluggish out of the box. This was a gift for my wife. It's heavy but the 17" screen is worth it. It fell on the floor few time (kids !!!) and still functions like a work horse. I think it will run great on windows 7.

Sony VAIO VGN-UX380N Core Solo U1500 1.33GHz 1GB 40GB 4.5" Touchscreen Vista Business Micro PC

Sony VAIO VGN-UX380N Core Solo U1500 1.33GHz 1GB 40GB 4.5' Touchscreen Vista Business Micro PCHello,

I bought my Sony Vaio UX380N back in the beginning of 2008, and I haven't regretted it one bit. Even now, after having it and using it all this time, i still keep finding newer and more exciting ways to use my UX380N. Sony had a real winner on their hands with this model, but they were quite outrageous on the prices of them. If they would have lowered their prices to a more reasonable amount, and maybe have upgraded the RAM to 2Gb instead of just giving up on the UX model idea, they would and could have probably sold them like hot cakes. Everyone that I have talked to and showed my UX380N to really loved it, and they really were interested in purchasing one. But the Sony price of them, along with Sony's decision to discontinue the model rather than make a few upgrades to it and lower the price of it, drove them away from buying one. Sony could have made a killing profit with this model, but their poor business and tech practices, once again, put a damper on their sales.

Personally, I don't know or understand why Sony thinks so much of their cumputers that they raise their prices wayyyy above everyone else that builds computers with the same or better quality, and sells them cheaper, but Sony needs to come down to reality and notice and see that their brand name doesn't have the quality or known-ness as it once had. Sony just needs to come down to reality period. Until then, not too may people will pay their outrageous prices for things that they can just go to other manufacturers and get the same quality mwith a much more reasonable price tag. But still, that doesn't take away the wonderful computer that the UX380N is. If you can find a UX model UMPC at a reasonable price (Maybe @ $799 or less), then I highly recommend that you buy it. You will not regret it. Thanks for reading!!

Bought my UX380N back in 2007, this is an excellent micro-laptop if you travel much. I usually bring two laptops when I travel a bigger 13" or 16" laptop to do serious work and this guy is my entertainment laptop to play video, light games and serve as my BACKUP laptop just in case anything happens to my main machine. In this regard it is perfect I could fit both laptops on my back pack and barely know the UX is there.

To fully appreciate this laptop, you MUST upgrade it to Windows 7 Vista Business is WAY too SLOW. Once you put Windows 7 it is a totally different machine snappy, performs well and is a joy to use. The 1G RAM is sufficient for Windows 7 but not Vista Business. Oh, I did a clean install as well for Windows 7 and loaded all Sony drivers, everything works perfectly, actually much better than under Vista.

The screen is small indeed, the keyboard tiny, but what do you expect it is a micro-laptop, it is supposed to be small. The quality of components is superb the screen is crystal clear, the keyboard slide action is great, can't expect better built quality than this. Never tried out the EDGE modem, but it is too slow to be of any use anyways.

By the way get the extended battery. It makes it slightly heavier but much more practical. I could get 5 hours of light use out of the UX. With the standard battery, it is slightly smaller and lighter, but not practical with only 2.5 hours of juice.

I wish Sony would continue production it is sad to see it discontinued....

I've had a UX-380 for 3+ years, and it hasn't been used much the past year because of newer toys. But the first thing I did when I bought it was to rip out Vista and put in XPpro. Machine surprisingly fast, and is a REAL PC running all my desktop/laptop apps.

Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915 17.0" Notebook (2.2GHz Celeron 900 3GB RAM 250GB HDD DL DVD-RW Vista H

Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915 17.0' NotebookMy neighbor bought one and after I saw it and set it up for him I knew I wanted one also. Bought my on line from WalMart and with shipping and sales tax it still was only $385. Amazon you can do better on the price.

I have bought 3 of these Laptops for myself and family over 2.5 years ago for $348 from Walmart, what a steal! All of them are still up and running strong and we are very happy with them for the money. They are more than enough hardware for school or business. Not for high end gaming, but play descent games at medium settings and are great for HD movies.

I just purchased this laptop a week ago and I love it. I have never owned a laptop before and have been wanting one for some time. This laptop is bigger than most, but I love the widescreen. I would definitely recommend it to those that are in the market for one. It may not have all the bells and whistles but well worth the money!!!

I also bought this computer at Wal mart. I thought that I had done a good job of researching the reviews before buying. After sixteen months the computer completely died while watching a DVD. I checked my BIOS battery and was running up to date Norton 360. I called Toshiba and they offered to fix it for $350.00. After researching several forums I learned that this computer has a heat problem(mine never ran too hot)and that you need to have it fully taken a part every year to clean and repaste the heat sink. In the end I salvaged the hard drive and will never buy a computer on sale from Wal mart again.

For the average person what a wonderful buy. I had been looking for 2 years for a basic laptop at a decent price. Bought it at Walmart for $348.00. I have used it for about a month and am more than pleased with my purchase. It has good speed, the 17" screen is very nice, the portability is great(set up wirelessly and use anywhere around the house), battery lasts about 2.5 hours(on balanced setting)or plug it in. Vista basic is actually not too bad. The only thing I added was Windows Office 2003(because I'm used to it),however the existing software is adequate. All in all a good solid computer.

Certified Pre-Owned MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo/2.4 GHz, 2 GB of RAM

Certified Pre-Owned MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo/2.4 GHz, 2 GB of RAMI bought this laptop in June 2011. About 1 month after receiving the laptop the screen would go black for no reason and the keyboard would phantomly type. Attributing the problems with the screen to the laptops age I made no attempt to fix it since it was still useable by adjusting the brightness. Unfortunately about 1 week ago the screen totally went black. So I took it to the apple store to get either the invertor cable or lcd screen or both replaced. In doing so apple called me back 2 days after dropping it off to tell me that someone had spilled significant amounts of liquid on the laptop and they wont touch it without sending it to their repair department for no less than $750, more than the laptop is even worth. Unfortunately the laptop totally crapped out after the date that I could get amazon to file a guaranteed A-Z claim.

So thanks for lying about selling me a damaged laptop that you obviously ruined and sold before the damage was obvious to me the sap who was totally taken by you. I advise that no one trust this crappy person and I rely on Karma to pay you back for the $500+ you stole from me.

WOW...what a great Mac. It replaces my aging G4 PowerBook. It is faster, lighter, has a larger screen, and does everything I could want. And the cost was half of a new one. Kudos to Instant Replay Electronics. Prompt delivery, great product, and good price. No one could expect more.

So this product works so well. Since this Black Macbook came out in late 2006 at a staggering price of $1600 I have wanted it and never got around to buying it up until they stopped making it. Then this year I decided to try and get a refurbished version as I already bought a refurbished Ibook G4 for my mother earlier in January 2012 which works wonderfully for her. I am so pleased I did. Although the seller I bought this from had 100% positive reviews, I was thinking I might end up being that one person who has a problem with them, especially since the shipping was not as fast as it was described by many(came day before the last day it was estimated to arrive). I am so glad I ignored all my fears and bought it. It works so so well and came with so many surprises from the seller that I wasnt expecting and feel so blessed that I received them. I mean, as a designer, who wouldnt love to buy a laptop with the entire CS5.5 Suite AND Final Cut Pro installed in? So far it hasnt been a month but the black Macbook works well. Its been upgraded to Mountain Lion OS so I am able to do my work at warp speed. It has Face Time installed although I am yet to use it. My only issue was I know the 2.4Ghz Macs have the illuminated keyboard but this one doesnt seem to do that :(. If I can figure out a way to make that happen I will be in 7th heaven. Highly recommend this refurbished product for anyone who cant afford a Mac Pro at the moment but still want to be able to achieve great things on a reasonably fast system.

Sony VAIO VPC-EH14FM/B 15.5" Notebook (2.1GHz Intel Core i3-2310M 4GB RAM 640GB HDD DL DVD-RW Micro

Sony VAIO VPC-EH14FM/B 15.5' Notebooki recently purchased this, i had read reviews saying that the maximum volume is way too low, but wow, people werent kidding. you can barely hear it, especially with an air conditioner on. also, i dont like that you have to use a function key then click the volume controls to change the volume, that seems primitive for a laptop. i want 1-touch volume control, every computer should have that.

otherwise the laptop seems good so far, and has decent specs.

but, i'm basically forced to buy external speakers. which is so annoying and unacceptable this day in age for a laptop.

I recently bought this product and so far Im really satisfied. Actually the max volume is higher than the other ones I tried and also runs tasks pretty fast. I definitely recommend this laptop.

Asus K55A-RHI5N13 Intel Core i5-3210M, 6GB, 750GB, SuperMulti DVDRW Wireless, 15.6" HD, Webcam, Win

Asus K55A-RHI5N13 Intel Core i5-3210M, 6GB, 750GB, SuperMulti DVDRW Wireless, 15.6' HD, Webcam, Windows 8Purchased this Asus Laptop as it seemed to be an excellent configuration for the price. Mine came with 8GB and not the 6GB listed. Screen is nice and bright, It is speedy and easy to use. Setup was a breeze. The keyboard has a really nice touch. Not liking the Windows 8 all that much so I installed "Classic Shell" and it made it much easier to use and gives me time to play with Windows 8 when I have time. Great Value for the price.
