Dell XPS 15 XPS15-1105sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver Anodized Aluminum)

While intended to be a powerhouse of a laptop, this item falls short in a couple of areas. I have an XPS 15 and I'm on Amazon right now looking to find something else.

1. Overheating / Running extremely hot

check out the forums and you will see that this computer is notorious for running hot. Fire up World of Warcraft and you'll hit 180 F plus quickly. I've burned my legs from having the computer on them (through jeans) and have all but left the game because the computer can't handle it.

even after making the changes recommended on the Dell forums, the computer has issues (Changing the settings, updating the BIOS)

I'll be honest here I use a laptop because I sit on the couch to game. I find it more comfortable than a desk. This laptop can't sit on your lap because it is simply too hot.

2. Trackpad is the worst I've seen

it's far too sensitive and will enable when you are not even touching it.

the only option would be to turn it off completely, as I've lost entire documents because of the issue

the trackpad causes you to zoom in and out on browsers without any reason; super frustrating and you'll learn to use the Ctrl +/keys to get your favorite settings back in a hurry

I find that these two shortcomings make the XPS so difficult to use that I avoid it, and have left World of Warcraft because of the overheating issue. It's extremely frustrating to own a computer that should make gaming and blogging a joy, only to find that it so negatively impacts the experience that you stop doing things you love. It's very disappointing since it's not cheap, and is intended to be a mid to high end "gaming" laptop.

I just love Dell XPS15. Magnificent, awesome performance, indisputable, redesigned multimedia, more powerful and more lightweight.

I never write reviews but thought I should worn people about this model. There is a flaw with the design, the WiFi does not work unless you are very close to your router. Near the router I would get 20mbps in the next room I would get .2mbps. My old laptop would get 15mbps in that's same spot!!! I had Dell come to the house and replace my screen (antenna is in the screen) and 2 wireless cards. Also I had Amazon send me a new one but same problems. Google xps 15 wifi problems and yoy will see what i am talking about. Dell asked me to send them the computer for repair but I feel if I buy a new computer I should not have a referbished one. I am sending the 2nd one back and ordered a Levovo Y510p. I hope this helped people.

However if you are going to use ethernet only and not the wireless card you would be OK..

cool style, nice design, a little heavy but it has strong structure.

the battery life is about 3 hours, is too poor for a ultrabook (in my opinion it is not a ultrabook it's a great laptop).

I'm really satisfied.
