Bought this kind of top from Costco. One month after 2 year warranty expired, the motherboard was broken. No coverage from HP or Costco. Now it's 100% of piece of junk.My experience with this laptop is similar to the ones in the other reviews. I had far too many issues with this laptop. TONS actually. From the motherboard going out, over heating, screen not turning on, wireless stopped working. I would have it fixed. Then 2 weeks later, SAME ISSUES. HP finally sent me a "refurbished" one, which worked for about 1 month, than the SAME EXACT THING....
I now actually have the DV6000 and I have not had one single issue. It's bigger, larger ram, and I'll have it until the wheels fall off, so to speak....
So, not out of hate or dislike for HP, but do NOT purchase this product, especially with no warranty, because I feel confident enough to say you will have similar issues and wish you went with your gut feeling...ok so it will die on you that's for sure...lol...but with good ol' amazon you can have it up and running for under 40 bucks so why is everone on here made? buyer beware right? If I'm going to buy anything over $200 I looking it up, to be sure I know everthing there is befor I get it...you should all do the same

Sony customer support is in Philippines and they can barely speak their name. They do not try to understand what the customer tries to say. It is abnormal for a laptop screen to go bad after only 16 months. I am very disappointed in Sony. The product is poor and the customer support does not even speak or understand English language.I'm not one of those tech savvy types with a sense of entitlement, so I'm very happy with this little computer. It holds a charge for six hours and I can take it anywhere in the house, (or world for that matter, unlike my 10-year-old desktop which is full of viruses and all of our crap.) I use it for word processing (sold separately), and general internet: Blogger, Facebook, the library, recipes, Pandora, Signing Savvy, and other work related stuff. On a Grandma note: you can use the keypad to adjust text size which is a plus for those of us who now wear bifocals. That, and you can entertain small grandsons with captivating train videos on YouTube. It's not meant to be a powerhouse computer, and I didn't need a powerhouse computer, so I am very pleased with this product.I bought this computer in November 2009. It still runs like brand new. The display is great for a laptop this size and the Sony Vaio name in itself is award winning. The Blu-Ray player is a nice added feature. For the performance, packaging, design, durability, battery life, product price and style, this laptop hits the money. It has been my best and most valuable electronic equipment purchase to date. : )

I upgraded to this machine, and in the first week of use, it's been very reliable. The 14" screen and weight of under 5 lbs is nice for moving from place to place, as I do all the time. The VGA output is nice for using a desktop monitor / keyboard / mouse as a dual screen desktop machine.
The Core i3 w/ 4GB of ram, 500GB hard drive, and windows 7 Pro 64 bit is not my favorite operating system, but it's the most supported platform for all of the programs that we have out in our infrastructure of about 150 computers across 10 buildings.
The machine includes a creative suite for editing, which I haven't used yet, but the DVD burner is nice for making disks and 2 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 are nice for plugging in many devices.
I would recommend this machine as a good quality business machine to upgrade users or power users or administrators who have machines that are from the Pentium 4 / or Core 2 Duo Era that are still running XP.

I miss the multi touch but it is still penabled.
The speed is not as great as I would want, but at this price getting an IBM (Lenovo) Tablet, I could never even dream, they could deliver so much at these prices.
The processor limits the gaming experience (which I do not care much for) and VPN experience is less than stellar. The web surfing experience is good and windows 7 works very well.

One drawbrack that is noted (though I am NOT complaining) is lack of photo editing ability with Windows Live Photo Gallery which came already loaded on my laptop. Short of that, woohoo thank you HP!
