Toshiba 2 DUO PRO P8600/2G/160G/12.1/D

Toshiba 2 DUO PRO P8600/2G/160G/12.1/DI've had this unit for over a year now and its a great piece of machinery. Especially for any animator or artist looking to draw digitally. This computer was recommended to me by my drawing instructor Glenn Vilppu and its done nothing more than what I would of expected. It has great sensitivity for drawing. The only negative thing I can say is that it can get really hot after hours of use. However, the newer models can have the option to have solid state drives, so, I'm assuming this takes care of that issue.

Pros: Does what is advertised

Comes with Skype, webcam and mic.

Does not overheat

Cons: Toshiba Bloatware

Touch is a bit too sensitive at times. It opens icons when you're finger glides over them

I bought this with a GPS and Microsoft Streets&Trips. I had fun using it on Amtrak trip to Montreal from DC. There may be better tablets out there, but this had the best price to hardware ratio. I looked at Fujitsu, Lenovo, HP and Dell. I plan to get Windows 7 and get rid of the pre-installed Vista and Toshiba bloatware, right after I get all the drivers.

Pretty good computer. The touch screen is accurate when calibrated and theres nothing wrong with the pen input. The touch screen is resistive, but that's not too bad. The Core 2 Duo in this computer is fast enough, but it could use at least 1 more gig of ram. Stinks that it still sells with vista. The battery life is amazing (up to 6 hours). If you upgrade to windows 7 though you'll see a slight decrease in battery life. The main thing that stinks about the computer is the alps touch-pad. It spazzes out just enough to get on your nerves.

This was the computer recommended to my entire medical school class. Most of us bought it, although we should have ignored the recommendation and bought an Apple or an HP. It has been nothing but trouble for myself and many of my classmates. The usual complaint is that it's incredibly slow, but numerous people have had more specific problems such as the unit getting really hot, fans that don't turn off even when it's cool, and the cursor getting frozen when using the track pad. In addition to the fan and track pad issues, my computer had the problem of a non-responsive touch screen, both with the pen and a finger. I've sent it in to get fixed twice now, but it came back with the same problem the first time, and they still have it from the 2nd time. It's been in the shop for over half the time I've owned it because the repair parts are on back-order (apparently I'm not the only one in the world with this problem and in need of this part).

Save yourself the headache. Don't buy this computer. We have a pretty decent sample size in my class, and there are enough people with problems for them to be isolated incidents.
