Acer C710-2605 11.6-Inch Chromebook (Iron Gray)

Acer C710-2605 11.6-Inch ChromebookIs this Amazon's hardware equivalent of VAPORWARE? I ordered this probably 6 weeks ago with expedited shipping. Nothing so far. The Square Trade policy arrived promptly and I'm now past the date it can be returned. I have a policy insuring something paid for that is for a product I have never received. I'm patiently waiting, but I wish Amazon wouldn't have represented they had something that they could not deliver! I hope this gets Amazon's attention. I love the Acer products -they are generally excellent values and I love the chromebook. The extra memory and storage drive on this unit are useful to me. What's happening here?

This is to answer the other reviewer who placed a review without owning the product because it hasn't even been released.

Trust me, some users would prefer a hard drive to the cloud, especially if I'm taking pictures out in the middle of nowhere with no internet and want to view my shots. The nature and wildlife shots on the hikes I take are generally without internet available.

The extra 2gb of memory certainly will help when reviewing my 20mb raw shots taken with my full frame Canon DSLR.

The 16gb drive the other reviewer bragged about is half the size of my 32gb flash card for my camera. If my flash card has more the 16gb of data on it, the Samsung 16gb won't even be able to read my card or show my images. If it can't read my flash card using my USB reader then it's usless to me.

Perhaps even a bigger reason for a hard drive is if I want to put Ubuntu on it. You need a hard drive to dual boot or wipe out ChromeOS and put Ubuntu on it.

Buy Acer C710-2605 11.6-Inch Chromebook (Iron Gray) Now

This $300 Chromebook is the same as the $280 Acer C710-2055, but with a 500 GB drive instead of 320 GB. Bear in mind that on a Chromebook, the internal storage is effectively your Downloads folder. I think 320 GB is already too much for a Chromebook, and wish there was an Acer C7 with a fast and silent 16GB SSD instead. If you really need storage get an external drive; it's $80 for a TB these days. That said, if you were going to get the $280 model and really wanted just 180 more GB, $20 is not bad.

But you should strongly consider the $200 version instead. Two-thirds the price, $100 in your pocket, at the cost of 2GB instead of 4GB memory, 320GB instead of 500GB internal storage, and a 4-hour rather than a 6-hour battery. Except for battery-centric users, most people are unlikely to notice the difference. Plus, if you do, you can always upgrade later! One of the best features of the Acer C7 is that memory, hard drive, and even battery are user-upgradeable. (At present, March 2013, Acer C7 users mostly seem to get an after-market longer-life battery from a third-party supplier named CDW.)

I'm a big fan of the $200 Acer C7; see my review here: New Acer C7 C710-2847 Chromebook 11.6" Intel Dual Core B847 1.1 GHz 2GB DDR3 320GB 5400RPM HDD Wifi HDMI USB3.0 VGA Card Reader. Now, at present (March 2013) you can't get it for $200 on Amazon; you can check Newegg instead.

Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 TruBrite 18.4-Inch Gaming Laptop

Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 TruBrite 18.4-Inch Gaming LaptopThis review is broken into several parts for those that would like an in depth review, or would like to know specific details.

Seller: Best Custom P.C. LLC

As soon as Amazon allows me to, this company will be receiving five stars. They are the best company that I have ever dealt with (this includes offline stores as well.) They answered all of my questions quickly, and were polite and personable in their responses. I received a handwritten thank you note with my order (I ask you, when have you EVER received a hand written anything from a business, much less from the owner?)The system they sell you is double checked by two computer professionals, and everything is tested. They ship quickly, and are one of the few third party vendors that will provide you with tracking information.

Qosmio x505-870:

General:

First off know what you are getting into. This machine is not some cute little Vaio. Don't misunderstand me it looks awesome, but when Toshiba says desktop replacement they MEAN desktop replacement. To put this in perspective I have a Macbook Air which is a thirteen inch laptop. I can literally put it on the Qosmio in the upper right hand corner and it will come to the "w" key to halfway down the touchpad. To put it another way, I can open the Mac's screen and still watch a youtube video behind it on the Qosmio's monitor. There for, I don't understand some of the other reviews where they complain that it is heavy. This isn't a netbook. It isn't completely immovable though. Just understand this thing is HUGE, and lugging it around isn't going to be fun for long walks in Manhattan. The keyboard is backlit, and full sized with a numeric pad. On your left there are touch media keys that I like. Again, I have read some complaints that they are too easy to hit and I do not understand this either. Unless you are terribly uncoordinated or your hands are the size of Kobe's I don't know how you will hit them accidently. The battery has 12 cells, and with Eco mode will last a good amount of time for a machine this large (3 hours give or take.)

Parts:

The monitor is clear and crisp with a 16:9 ratio, the keyboard is snappy and comfortable, and the speakers are great for a laptop. The i7 processor is a beast, but the Qosmio handles the heat easily. I have yet to feel it get hot at all ( and I do use it as a "lap" top.) It has 4GB of RAM @ 1066MHz which is not the fastest, but good enough for just about anything you'll throw at it. The Blu-ray player is a steal for the price, and will flash labels onto burned DVDs (does NOT burn Blu-ray.) Computer has three USB ports, an eSATA/USB port with sleep/charge for your phone. One firewire 400 port, Bluetooth, one HDMI port,10/100/1000 ethernet, 5 in 1 memory card reader, PCI slot, and 2nd hard drive bay for another HD. Hard drive is a 500GB @ 7200 rpm. My only nitpick is the touchpad, it supports multi touch, but is tiny. However, wireless mice aren't really expensive, and the pad isn't horrible, just kind of out of place (The ones on the Macbooks are about twice as big). This is an amazing piece of hardware, and if you want a powerful computer this is your machine.

After exhaustive research, I decided the Toshiba Cosmio x505-870 powerhouse had the best specs for the best price. This was the next in a long line of Toshiba laptops for me. I was hooked after my first one about 10 years ago. Due to the design, durability, price, and support, Toshibas have always been my first choice and I would, and do, recommend them to everyone that asks. The Cosmio X505-870 is my new passion. My only complaints are minor and cosmetic. The slick surface of the keyboard and the awkward multimedia and power buttons are the only hindrances I have found. The new, positive design elements far outway the problems though. The toned-down color scheme, the disable button for the touchpad, and the beautiful 18.4 screen(although not full 1080p) to name a few. There were some issues with the BIOS that Toshiba addressed directly, so I would suggest updating the BIOS immediatly after creating your restore disks. I don't think it would be possible to regret the purcase of this system, and I recommend it whole-heartidly.

For the price this is 1 amazing laptop! I've thrown Star Trek Online, Bioshock 1 and 2 at it and everything played fully maxxed out w/ great frame rates. Left 4 Dead 2 even looks impressive on it! The Blu Ray drive has come in handy as well for watching movies and shows. The only complaint I have is that it is a fingerprint magnet...but honestly it is only a small complaint.

I bought this laptop about couple of months ago, from Tiger-direct cause for some reason or another Amazon price jumped overnight on that particular laptop, and tiger offered 12 months no interest and for an additional $29.00 they guarantee they will buy back the laptop for at least 40% of the purchase price depending on the shape it's in at that time. Anyhow, this has nothing to do with he review.

The review:

I'm not gonna sit here describing the machine, the specs are well listed by the MFG. Let me start by saying that I consider myself a computer savvy, I'm not stingy when it comes to buying a good system, and I've always bought Toshiba laptops, and it seems to always be the case, the machines are beautiful well built but always have out of the box drivers issues, and stupid little bugs that arise from negligence, more than anything else, and I could imagine how frustrating it would be for the non computer savvy. I always tolerated this fact hoping that my next Toshiba won't have these minor annoying stupid bugs, such as bad Blue-tooth Driver, Bad Graphic card driver, Bluray Drive with no supporting oftware, bad BIOS that causes blue screens, only three USB outlets, etc.. etc...

As far as this system goes, I was able to upgrade the buggy BIOS, downloaded new one from Toshiba site, I got the blue-tooth headphones to work (needed to roll-back to an old driver? then about a week ago Realteck posted a driver that worked), but the most serious problem that this machine has is a bad driver for it's Graphic card, the machine and during light operations, goes blank, then wakes up with a message DISPLAY DRIVER STOPPED WORKING AND HAS RECOVERED, then comes back to life. Worst of all, is when watching a movie or doing some CAD drafting, the SCREEN OF DEATH COMES ON (The blue screen) and shuts your system down. I downloaded the latest driver NVIDIA had, still didn't work. All and all the machine with little more attention could be a five star. I do agree with the other 3 star reviewer, that the machine has a five star potential if given a good support team.

In conclusion here are the Pros and Cons of this system

PROS:

1Machine well built, nicely designed, love the lighted keyboard.

2Bluray drive worked great after the software update.

3Love the off switch for the tablet.

4Sound crisp but can use more amps.

5There is room for another HD (Solid state if you wish)

CONS:

1Bad graphic card driver (-1 star)

2Bad bluetooth driver (-1/2 star)

33 USB outlets not enough, 2 located where the mouse pad needs to go for right handed (-1/2 star)(external HD, mouse, ZUNE Charging, done no more USB).

4To upgrade to 6 gig RAM you have to get rid of 2RAM to make room for 4 RAM or replace both 2GIGs with (2) 3 GIGS. Marketing BS everybody does it, I'll let it slide.

5Have to go through BIOS to turn off the control keyboard and keypads lights and to enable the USB charge while asleep.

As for the Size, it's huge, what I would like to have done, and hat what I would do next time, is to buy a smaller 15 inch high power system and when a bigger screen is needed just plug in a dam 22 inch monitor, they are cheap enough. Buy the way the Targus 17" back-pack worked great.

UPDATE:

The BIOS and Graphic updates fixed the problems. Well that's my point why the problems were not fixed before release.

Still out of the box it is a 3 star system. Toshiba needs to start debugging it's systems before release, especially the expensive ones. Well they won't do that if everyone keeps on giving them 4 stars.

Dell Latitude E5530 15.6' LED Notebook - Intel Core i5 i5-3210M 2.50 GHz -I purchased this for my 12 yo as I have one in my business. The computer is very durable and is very good. (computer ranks 4.5 stars) The bad news is that the amazon vendor is sending out computers with only 4 GB memory which should sell for about $100 less. I caught them, but only after I had loaded up MS Office. Not wanting to deal with the hassles of return and removal/license issues with the software, I accepted their apology and a $70 refund. Be sure to check your unit for the specifications you THINK you are getting before investing time in set-up. Vendor ranks (1 Star) Amazon therefore gets 3

HP ENVY dv7t-7200 Quad Edition 17.3' Laptop - 3rd generation Intel Quad Core i7-3630QM Processor / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive / Bluray Player / 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M / Beats Audio / Windows 8 / backlit keyboardLack of Service from the seller. Laptop arrived damaged and when I contacted the seller he said I would be issued a partial refund of the money I paid. I tried all possible to obtain a refund. The seller lied and no replacement of replacement. I gave this seller 1000.00, however I only received 750.00. This seller was stealing from me and did not practice good customer service. A full refund or a replacement should of been offered. Neither was provided. The problem that laptop had was the CD tray did not open and was stuck. I am a computer technician and I explained that I was knowledgeable in all aspects of a computer. Be careful, this seller does not stand his products. The box it came in was not HP's box. It arrived in a plain box with no indication if was sold by an authorized dealer. Be careful since you are not guaranteed service for a computer which is damaged.

Well it's been two months since my HP ENVY dv7 has arrived. I have used it everyday and I LOVE it. At first I thought that Windows 8 would be difficult to get used to but this is not the case. The first thing you notice that is different about this laptop is that it uses fingerprint technology to log onto all of your sites. You just swipe your forefinger over the reader and you are logged on instantaneously. This is a great convenience and time saver. (Sometimes it does take two or three repeated swipes if your finger is not placed just right over the reader. No big deal.)

I have the backlit model and it's great if I'm sitting in bed at night with the lights out. Also, the computer boots up really fast. In less than a minute, you can begin working. So different from my desktop which loads and loads and loads. It takes forever before you can open a browser.

This replaces my Dell laptop which I had for a few years. It had an intel i5 processor. From a few months after I got it, the screen began to flicker and go grey and I would have to reboot it. So far, after two months of use, I have had not one issue with this laptop.

Apple MacBook Pro MC665LL/A 17-Inch Laptop

Apple MacBook Pro MC665LL/A 17-Inch LaptopThis is a really great machine here are my specs.

17" Intel core i7 is a beast! Purchased brand new and custom from the Apple online store in summer 2010. I've upgraded the memory to 8GB and has the 7200 rpm 500GB hard drive and superdrive. The battery has a cycle count around 300 which is listed as normal under system information and still holds a wonderful charge.

Never had any repairs on this machine and it has never given me any problems. There are a few light scratches on the casing from everyday use, and the black nubs on the bottom have some light wear but cosmetically I think the machine can still pass as brand new.

All the current programs run extremely well on this machine and if you have the chance to own one do yourself a favor and purchase one.

I am very happy with this laptop. The display is excellent, star-up and shut-down is very fast. After many year using windows, now I am very pleasant with this macbook pro.

If you have also been DUPED into believing these "i7" computers are Quad core, then you have my sympathies and condolences, WHICH IS ALL APPLE WILL HELP WITH, OH NO WAIT THEY SUGGESTED I SELL IT ON CRAIGSLIST AND DUMP IT ON ANOTHER POOR UNSUSPECTING PERSON LIKE ME!. (SORRY APPLE I'M NOT AS CRUEL AS YOU ARE I WILL GIVE IT TO A FAMILY MEMBER WHO IS USING A G4 17" LAPTOP.... MAYBE IT WILL BE AN UPGRADE FOR THEM???? Mine wont even render video with After Effects CS4, as fast as my old 2007 imac did, this is a joke and I am starting to feel real contempt from Apple, whom I will never ever give another penny to. I sure hope that poor person above me who gave 5 stars doesn't do any 3D OR AVC video editing(SOMETHING YOU NEED A QUAD FOR). I'll wrap this up by stating never to buy Apple again after the way they treated me on the phone(the rep Matt even conceded to me he would have bought it thinking it was QUAD CORE) and then proceeded to hand me off to someone who acted like my paltry $2500 wasn't worth giving me the time of day over.. Good luck to all who buy THIS wreck of a machine from any site.

Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch Laptop (Platinum Silver)

Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch LaptopOver the years I've owned laptops from Toshiba, Compaq, Dell and Sony. Sony's have always been my favorites and this one ranks at the top of the list! It is a fast system with long battery life using the included sheet battery. Without the sheet battery it is very light-weight yet still has decent battery life.

The ssd drive really adds to the speed of this system. Even with bloated iTunes installed, it boots in less than 25 seconds and that includes me entering my password.

I would highly recommend this system.

To be honest, I was expecting more from Sony this time. I owned Vaio for the last 3 years, and guided by good experience decided to go for Vaio again. This piece offers good spec for low price, and its performance is spot on!

Boots really fast, system works out of the box, everything configured. I also tried a couple of video games all works like a charm.

But, as someone else here mentioned, the CPU fan is too loud. Whenever CPU does some "heavy" work, fan starts its noise and sounds like jet engine. This actually happens quite often, when I am copying files, video chatting, installing something or playing games. It is sad that this laptop makes more noise than my desktop.

This is a huge disappointment.

However, bright side is laptops great performance. Excellent backlit keyboard (even better than the previous one, which was fantastic as well). Display is amazing.

I hope that I will get used to the noise of the fan, as well as my colleagues at work.

I am also wondering if it would make it better if I install Linux, which I will surely try in the next months.

Buy Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch Laptop (Platinum Silver) Now

overall it performs well and boots fast. looking from afar this proves to be a very attractive metallic like laptop. a closer look and feel would disappoint you a bit as the unit is made of plasticky material that looks like titanium but is not. Upgrading to 8gb is a breeze and removing extraneous bloatware is a tad of a pain as expected. Screen quality is typical VAIO, no complaint here. Available ports are adequate but not stellar. keyboard is much better than on the Ultrabook but not as nice as on the Macbook. A silver model (w/ a faster i5 than that of the previous SA23GX) is way more recommended than a black SA model but ... overall the plasticky build makes it less rugged for the road and susceptible to harsh handling.

The positives:

If you're doing basic office stuff the notebook is blazing fast thanks to the SSD. I can't comment on gaming power. It will run a 1080p movie just fine with MPC and CCCP's basic setup.

High resolution screen.

I find it stylish enough and it's got pretty god build quality.

The included sheet battery is a nice touch.

The negatives:

The typical harddisk partitioning and bloatware stuff. I did a clean instal (which took surprisingly little time) to fix that up.

The screen doesn't have the best viewing angles.

Swapping between the Sandy Bridge graphics and the discrete card requires you to close all of your programs and flip a hardware switch.

Bottom line: I got this off Amazon for ~$950, that's a great deal on something this size with a 1600x900 screen and an SSD. I wasn't disappointed.

Want Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch Laptop (Platinum Silver) Discount?

Pros:

Thin, light and fast!!! Boot times are quick.

Even when clipped onto it's auxiliary battery pack, it still comes out thinner and lighter than most traditional laptops.

Cons:

Not quite instant-on.

Maximum SSD capacity is still far less than maximum IHD capacity in the equivalent model.

I just can't get used to that silly drag-down toolbar tracking the cursor around and getting in the way of window controls. Better put it somewhere innocuous.

It's sparking a bit of jealousy among the staff here.

Sony VAIO VGN-Z750D/B 13.1-Inch Laptop - Black

Sony VAIO VGN-Z750D/B 13.1-Inch Laptop - BlackI considered many PC options, Toshiba, MAC, Samsung, Acer, Dell and Sony. At the end of the day, the Toshiba, while very dependable and my current workhorse of 4 years, Toshiba has annoying function popups, the unit latch is broken and the power button will not turn off unless I push down with substantial force. The Macs, too pricey and didn't offer the features I needed in business. Acer, did not care for the layout although the features were impressive. Samsung, I really wanted the X360P but the price was never be lowered over 6 months. Dell, had that experience once before, Support was comical and frustrating. So, Sony it was. A little pricey but with the size, power and features I needed in my work, it was my choice. I'm in the process of removing many of the annoying Sony software so that I can work without sales pitches and quirky helful notes.

This is one of the best i had purchased from amazon.

The lightweight laptop, is easily portable an ideal for travelling. i had purchased the item and shipped to my cousin in USA, he then posted it back to me to Maldives. There was only one issue with the power cable that didnt support the power plug ins available here in maldives, so i bought a three-pin to support the power plug...

and now its in perfect condition....Thanks to sony, and thanks to Amazon.

HP Compaq Presario CQ62-231NR 2.2GHz AMD V-Series V120 2048MB 320GB DVD+/-RW WiFi 15.6' Windows 7 Home Premium 64bitThis is a great little laptop with plenty of power for most people. It's a shame the previous reviewer was too lazy to search google for a simple driver that would have fixed their printer problem(there's ALWAYS a driver...sometimes you just have to make an effort).

I got this computer to use for simple word processing and web surfing, but found it to be much more capable than I expected. This Compaq has become my main computer for watching High Definition shows/movies from Netflix and Hulu. It plays HD so well that I wound up getting a VGA adapter so I could hook it up to the TV in my living room to watch downloaded itunes hd movies.

Overall, this laptop is light, was very easy to set up, has surprisingly good battery life, a surprisingly powerful processor, and a BEAUTIFUL L.E.D. display screen.

I bought this laptop as a gift for someone. It's a great buy! Very fast, seamless, easy to use and ultra quiet. The Altec Lansing speakers are a great addition to this notebook. I'm thinking of getting one for my son too!

This is inexpensive fast computer. It comes with Window 7 Home edition preloaded. Unfortunately or ironically cannot connect to HP Laserjet 4 as the preloaded Window 7 does not have the driver. HP support is no help as they keep telling me the Window 7 has the built in driver for LaserJet 4 and it should connect. Window support again is no help. I have another Dell computer with window 7, and this window shows the laserjet 4 printer driver. I know my printer is old but this should not be a problem. Look like i got to buy another printer with the driver shown in window 7.

Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black

Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - BlackJust received it.

I consider the price in this review.

I am a frugal shopper and a bit of a techy -I'll be putting a Linux partition on it.

$365 delivered, refurb -no signs of why it was refurbished.

I've never owned an ASUS so far I really really like it. Touch pad is a bit touchy -:-) -but slick in that it is integrated into the body. The two finger scrolling and three finger menu is nice but the pad will take some getting used to.

The key board is sensitive as well, the buttons are big, all of which I happen to like; the numbers pad is a big bonus that I really like.

It is wide, like 17", the screen seems larger than your average 15.6". Good resolution. The battery life seems long, but we'll see.

It is lighter than my last Dell.

This is also my first run with the Windows 7 OS so that will take a bit of getting used to as well.

WiFi is fast and strong because of the wireless N -longer distance faster transfer rates.

Overall this laptop seems very solid for the money.

Easy to configure, lots of options, very sleek looking.

I would recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a budget portable.

I will use it for work/school (I'm a PhD student).

For what you pay this thing is a steal.

I will update as I use it.

[Update] 6 months and still feel the same.

[Update] Over two years old and still going strong. I don't use it hard, but I do take it out of the house a couple of times a week. However, it is one of three devices I use (my tablet and desktop get the most work).

Issues with it:

1) There is a permanent smudge on the screen from stuff wearing off of the touchpad.

2) The Webcam simply failed shortly after my last post. The hardware is fine (no problem using it in Linux partition) it is an ASUS software issue.

3) Power cable is starting to show signs of wear.

4) I could never get used to the delete key placement. Still drives me nuts when typing on it.

Bought for husband as travel-laptop. Just got in today.

Let me say this laptop will be sufficient for some daily use. It is a good laptop for the price. Fast enough ( but not super speedy). Doesnt feel really heavy to me, but then again, I normally carry around a 17 inch dell. Very nice looking. Overall, very good for browsing and email. Probably really good for a student or light to medium usage. Im a heavy user and KILL laptops, so I dont think this one will last too long is you are rough on your laptops. Good specs. Started up out of the box. Would recommend though.

Cons:

-Installed software. There is A LOT of it! Slows down the computer on start up horribly.

-It was FILTHY! I know its refurbished, but at least you could take a can of air and blow out the cat hair and food crumbs (Im literally serious)! Come on, Amazon! If you buy this, purchase some canned air to blow out the keyboard and monitor as it was GROSS! Again as a heavy user, I know a gross laptop, and that one put mine to shame. Im going to have to pop the keys out and scrub with Qtips.

-Small scratches around the monitor. Nothing major, just figured I would mention it because some people are really picky.

-Packaging/Delivery. No bubble wrap or padding whatsoever. Came in a large box ( like a laptop normally would), but just had cardboard to hold in place and skrink wrap to prevent scratching. No padding between keyboard and monitor either. No protection at all (aside of the plastic bag on the outside incase it rained). The box wasnt dented, but if it had been, I worry about what could have happened. Speaking of which, FedEx left it outside on my porch ( in 95 degree heat) when I didnt answer my door (didnt even require a signature I guess), so make sure you are home for your delivery otherwise, someone might walk off with your new-to-you laptop. :/

Buy Asus K50I-RBBGR05 15.6-Inch Widescreen Titanium Notebook - Black Now

First I was pleasantly surprised/blown away at how fast Planet73 shipped my Asus laptop that was well within the estimated delivery time. It is a great balance of price and performance from Asus, which is known for reliability and robust products. It is a huge step up or jump in virtually all the specs and features departments compared to the 12.1" old faithful laptop I have! It's quiet with no heating issues. I'm not a gamer, so a big hard drive and Windows 7 works for me! Most people might not encounter this situation as I am left-handed. The on button placement is awkward for a leftie as well as the power cord. When plugging in the power cord in the rear left area of the laptop, my right hand inadvertently touches the DVD button on the right side for stability. Other from those quirks, its a keeper!

I bought this laptop to install Ubuntu 10.10 and it worked like a champ! Everything installed fine and works perfectly out of the box--including things like 3D acceleration, laptop keyboard functions, and other things that can sometimes be a pain in Ubuntu. The only problem I have with it is that the webcam was installed upside-down; Asus "fixed" this by installing a special driver in Windows that flipped it back, but there's no apparent way to do this with Ubuntu. With that one problem aside, if you're looking for a laptop for a pain-free installation of Ubuntu, this one definitely fits the bill!

As I sit here trying to figure out why my hard drive crashed (again) and how I am going to get my software and files off of it, I thought I would take the time to warn others to avoid this laptop at all costs. I have had mine for two years and it has been a problem since day one. Now I can only load windows in the safe mode and that is even a crap shoot. Of course my back up discs are at home and I am on the road. I am about to throw it in the pool. The machine is slow even after I maxed out the ram. It has all the inherent problems of its predecessor the IBM Think pad. Display isn't that good either. The self repair function is a joke. If I could rate this product with minus numbers, I would. DO NOT BUY AN ASUS!!!

Samsung Series 3 NP305E7A-A01US 17.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Samsung Series 3 NP305E7A-A01US 17.3-Inch LaptopI see this is $899 on amazon. I paid $490 (after taxes) in Arizona today for this (bestbuy). It doesn't have USB 3.0 ports, webcam isn't the best, but besides that, it is an AWESOME laptop if you can find it cheaper. I shop on Amazon for everything, but for some weird reason I have found that if it comes down to laptops, both walmart and bestbuy always have better prices. Would you pay $899 (plus shipping) for this item when you could get it for $490? Anyways, I haven't used it for gaming but it does have AMD quad core processor and an AMD Radeon graphics card. I leave my gaming to my PS3 and XBox but I would surmise that this could handle the latest games if you disable certain quality levels in the game like shading, and the like.

All in all, the 17" screen, quad core processor, media card reader, HDMI port, webcam, 500 GB hard drive, and price sold me on this model today after my loyal Compaq Presario died after 3 years of service. Kudos to the Compaq though, I paid $377 for it 3 years ago at best buy and it set a standard that I hope this notebook will live up to and exceed.
