I really like the 15.6" screen, DVD drive and a numeric keypad, which are not common features in ultrabooks. These features are very important to me. Based on this, I would rate this 5/5. However, the unit I received had a faulty trackpad. It randomly jumped around on click gestures, moved and clicked at random, was sluggish, didn't register scroll gestures correctly. Tweaking settings and sensitivities did not help. Without a properly functioning trackpad, I found the laptop to be useless and had to return it. I gave it a score of 2/5 because even though it has all these awesome features, a fundamental component was faulty. I'd rather have a basic laptop that works than a fancy one that doesn't quite work. Other than the trackpad, I totally loved this laptop.

The unit I received had an ELAN trackpad. For comparison, my old Dell has a Synaptics trackpad, and I have never had a problem with it.

Great laptop it's very quick and stylish. it has a lot of the nice features like a dedicated restore button, a backlit keyboard (which is awesome at night!) Super light weight and a great screen. I also feel in love with the HDMI port, its so nice to not have to fight with streaming it to the tv just plug it in and your done.( I use Logitech's touch mouse server on both the computer and my smart phone to control it from across the room and to freak out my girlfriend) The only problems I have it's a fingerprint Magnet, the speakers are not as robust as i would like them to be and windows 8.... Windows 8 is nice but it's built for a touch screen, and makes it sometimes hard to use with the track pad. All and all a great buy!

As a corporate user I am really impressed with the light weight, great processing speed and sub 10 second Windows boot! As an IT professional I travel often and bought this for frequent travel. I'm so impressed with the performance this may be my main machine. I was nervous about the keyboard feel given the limited reviews I found on othe sites. In fact the keyboard is great!

Very happy with this machine, and as an owner of an Lenovo think pad, iPad2, iMac, MacbookPro 2nd gen, that says a lot! I did upgrade to 8GB of memory and love the SSD in this model.

Okay, I bought a Dell laptop with Window's 7 Pro. I got a Dell laptop with Window's XP. Before I could even figure out that I received the wrong operating sestem, I had to borrow a friend's power cord because the vinder gave me an adapter and power cord that were not compatible.

I am a college student. I don't have a lot of money to continuesly by products to make a device work. I also have finals coming up and need a laptop, so I don't have time to replace products that I did not buy because a seller did not give me what I did buy in the first place.

I am completely unhappy. I wish I could give them negitive 5 stars.

When the motherboard crashed on my old laptop this new one was recieved overnite. My only complaint was that the software advertised was NOT what was preloaded. Amazon offered to take it back and replace it but since it was for College that was not possible without getting behind in classes.

You purchase this laptop at risk, there is a lawsuit against NVidia for faulty graphics card Try to purchase a replacement GeForce 8600M graphics, unavailable! In addition HP used cheap solder on the motherboard which causes components to crash between 1 month to over just 2 years! See the attached link, there are over 77 pages of problems with the pavilion DV9500 laptop and HP'S customer service! Best yet, even if HP's fixed the laptop while in warranty the problems will happen again within months! And if you're out of warranty, you're out of luck!

I used this computer for work for almost 3 years and another person at the office used it before me for a while. Absolutely no issues, computer worked great. I ran some image-intensive programs on it for a while (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop 32bit), and it handled them fine. My main issue long term is I ran out of disk space as there is only about 150GB of disk space. Gets used up when you start filling up your computer with a ton of large image files. If you aren't doing stuff like that you'll be fine. Or you could just buy an external hard drive to store your large files on.

Anyway, I don't get all of the negative reviews. Was not my experience at all. Both of the computer batteries still work great. It's not a top of the line laptop anymore, but it gets the job done and appears to be a long-lasting piece of equipment.

I gave this to my brother so he could have good personal computer and it's working great for him. He mainly uses it for internet, movies, etc., nothing too crazy.

In all honesty, I was really excited when I bought this laptop a few years ago, and it worked really well for me (and this is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one), for about two years. I did notice excessive heating and fan noise when I ran games or movies on it, and I had to use a cooling pad at all times.

Then one day, with no warning, the graphics card failed. My computer was left with a common 8 bit VGA graphics adapter. I looked for the fix, did the "blowtorch the graphics card" thing, and it did work. For about a week. Now whenever I try to install NVIDIA drivers for the graphics card, the computer hangs on the windows logo at startup, and I have to go back and restore to pre-NVIDIA driver update.

i found out that there is absolutely nothing I can do about this. My warranty is expired and as far as I know HP refuses to deal with this problem. I think there's a lawsuit going on, but I'm just fed up with not being able to do anything that demands graphics performance on my computer.

Although my review is for HP dv9500 which is just slightly different these models have the exact same problem.

First my battery completely died after just 9 months but not to worry the warranty covered it. However the new battery is about to go, barely a year old, as well and I use the laptop almost exclusively as a desktop :S Then just May this year HP added this laptop to the battery recall program. Link to the HP battery recall form: Apparently the batteries were deemed unsafe by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Second, a while back there was a huge recall on HP and Dell laptops that used this nVidia chipset. Apparently nVidia used some sort of crappy material in their 86x series GPUs which made them burn out due to high temperatures. You can read all about it here: During that time this laptop (dv9500) was not under the recall and after just 2 months over the 1year standard warranty that my laptop came with my video chip died. HP offered various ridiculous solutions for users on their message boards such as under-clocking the GPU and getting better ventilation for your laptop. I called several times to get this repaired for free but since my warranty was out I initially got refused the free repair. HP denied that the chip was affected which was clearly not true. After demanding to speak to the CEO of HP I finally got through to a case manager of some sorts who got me an extended warranty ($ around) which would be cover the repair as if it was under the warranty in the first place (which is another story I tried to get an extended warranty while going overseas and was refused because apparently they don't cover repair overseas but only give phone support which later turned out to be not true since I got covered although I had to pay the shipping). Unfortunately I live overseas and had to pay around $ extra to get it shipped there and back, but that is way less than what would cost for a new motherboard and installation. Of course I got the exact same brand of GPU chip back so there is no telling when it will die again.

This is a Lenovo IdeaPad G780 (which is why, as previously mentioned, it's dealt separately from ThinkPads).

I bought an upgraded version of this for my wife for Christmas (our version has a i5 processor and a dedicated NVidia graphics card). However, the laptop itself is the same model.

I work in an IT department and we use Lenovo products. At work I have enjoyed most of their lineup (had some issues with the old X1 laptops and X220 tablets/laptops, but their traditional laptop models were excellent), and the price of this laptop is very competitive, so I decided to give this laptop a try.

So far it has been excellent. I've enjoyed getting used to Windows 8 (yes, it does take some getting used to, but it's essentially a "spiffy" version of 7 with a different Start Menu), and the laptop has performed very well. The build quality is excellent, it looks aesthetically-pleasing, and the screen size is wonderful (I'm a fan of 17" laptops now!).

I had to contact Lenovo about an Windows 8-related issue, and they were very professional and helpful and did a great job of helping me resolve the issue.

I would recommend this laptop to anyone needing a high-quality, low-price laptop.

I bought a Lenovo computer this time because their (though more accurately IBM's) Thinkpad enjoys such a great reputation. Apparently the thinkpad unit is completely seperate from the rest of Lenovo, so much so that thinkpad owners even call a different help line.

Lenovo sent me 2 defective computers before finally getting it right on the third try. I mean, if it were only one lemon... hey, mistakes happen! But two suggests that the company manufactures total junk. This seems to be a common experience with Lenovo computers. I must recommend strongly against buying one.

What can I say about the RedFly. This is a ingenious product. It makes so much sense to harness the power of a smartphone and display it on a nice big screen with a full size keyboard for input.

The great thing about it is that you dont have to buy any software. You don't have to worry about loosing data or having hard disks crash. You don't have to worry about viruses or keeping anit virus software up to date. You don't have to worry about fire walls. You always have a good fast free Internet connection (though your smartphone). You always have your data with you (in your phone) even when you don't have your Redfly with you.

This thing is real well made. Its built like a tank and has better build quality than my Dell laptop. The battery life is incredible and it keeps my smartphone battery topped off at the same time. It takes about 1 second to boot up (try that on your netbook). The bluetooth connection is instant, fast, and stable.

I could go on and on but I think you get the idea. Lately I have been enjoying watching movies through my ipod touch on the Redfly big screen. Very slick!

Bottom line is that you have a good smartphone there is no reason anymore to carry a big heavy, expensive laptop. Get a Redfly and lighten your load!

This means your Smart Phone Bluetooth setting cannot be set to "Discoverable" mode. The Pro Book was very up to date and easy to use. The access points for my flash drives let me take my work to school and keeps me up to date without having to take it to the lab. I am still learning all of its features. It was the best buy ever. Windows 7, is what most education systems still have to accept information, my new desk top was not being able to link because it was too new. never thought of that, but when I found this out and was able to locate the pro book with enough ram and storage space, and windows seven... the price was too right. ASUS U47VC-DS51 i5-3210M 2.5GHz 14.1" Notebook

Pros:

-User replaceable battery! Hard to find in thin notebooks.

-Lots of aluminum! Keyboard, palm rests and screen backing are all metal.

-Bottom/underside is a thick plastic. Not cheap feeling at all.

-Matte screen with a 1366x768 is perfect for 14 inch display.

-Chicklet keyboard leaves a bit to be desired, but my desktop has a mechanical so its a bit of an adjustment. Adequate for typing.

-Very easy to get to the memory and HDD bay along with the screw holding in the ODD. Memory comes maxed out for this computer (8 gig max supported) but that is plenty for the foreseeable future.

-Mouse pad is smooth, not that annoying bumpy junk lots of notebook OEM's are using.

-Dimmable backlit keyboard.

-Dedicated Graphics card.

Cons:

-Quite a bit of bloatware. Easy to uninstall, would rather just get a disc and install what I want.

-Mouse pad placement is not good for me. My left plam/thumb keep tapping the upper left corner of the pad causing typing errors.

-The mouse buttons are not good.

-Pretty much I hate the mouse pad. There, I said it.

-Speakers are bad. They are loud, but that's it. Very tinney and hollow sounding. No range at all. Even for laptop speakers, they have a lot of room for improvement. Speaker placement is right under the palm rest.

Overall, I am really happy with this machine. Besides the mouse pad, its just as good in my hands as it looked on paper. After making sure I was going to keep this computer, I immediately swapped out the HDD for an SSD I had laying around the house. The stock HDD was really a huge bottle neck.

I recently purchased this as an upgrade to a notebook I received for Christmas in 2010, and it's a very nice upgrade indeed. I've had some time to play with it and set it to my liking, and here are my thoughts:

Pros:

* Very light and thin, but it still has the RAM and storage space of a traditional full-size laptop

* 8GB of RAM, expandable to 16 even though ASUS says the max is 8!

* A dedicated graphics card. Not the best, but it'll do for some photo/video editing work and light gaming (can handle Portal and Team Fortress 2 just fine if that tells you anything. I don't think anything like Battlefield 3 would run at high settings though). I should add that this laptop's cousin, the U47A-RS51, has the exact same specs minus the graphics card.

* 6-cell battery, lasts a very long time. Max is about eight hours which is great.

* Can easily be customized. ASUS is known for this.

Cons:

* The trackpad. Damn it, I hate the trackpad. You'll get used to it, but it's still kind of annoying. It can get in the way of typing at times and the multi-touch scroll is awkward for people with large hands (like me).

* ASUS bloatware, but this comes with any computer. Install Windows 7 (or 8 if you prefer) from scratch and you should very nicely get around all that.

All in all, great purchase. 10/10 would buy again.

The Asus U47VC is perfectly positioned between the ultrabooks, which are wonderfully light but uncomfortable for real work, and the heavier-weight laptops that have all the features but are too heavy to lug around all day. I am very happy with mine. The only problem was that I found upgrading to Windows 8 involved uninstalling and re-installing numerous drivers. I wish Asus would just put a Windows 8 drivers file on their website so that you could update everything at once. [Are you listening, Asus?]

Great Keyboard--comfortable for work, no shallow feeling.

Optical drive, unlike ultrabooks.

Nicely sized, bright screen.

Solid Asus build.

Touchpad makes the cursor jumpy, but this may merely require more adjustment.

Upgrading to Windows 8 is tedious and confusing.

I honestly don't know why there are so few professional reviews of this notebook out in the media. It is a terrific, elegant design where, for a few extra ounces, you get a computer that is much more than a toy for surfing the web and sending the occasional e-mail. This is my 3rd Asus notebook, and I continue to be impressed with the thought that goes into their best products.

This is my 2nd Asus laptop in the U series line. I previously had a 2011 model #U46SV and sold it recently to my cousin for a cool $700.

This review will be comparing both 2011 and 2012 models. As always with any laptop or ultrabook, I do a clean install on Win7 Pro x64 OS and installed a fresh Vertex 4 SSD 256gb I got on black friday sale!

My impressions with this year's model U47VC has met higher expectations than I thought.

It is slightly thinner, a bit lighter, and has extra features over last year's model.

Aesthetics I find the design of this laptop to be a major upgrade over the U46SV last year.

The battery is a lot more narrow and lighter.

Illuminated keyboard shines in the night time! Big + for me as I'm typing

Brushed aluminum in gray this year over a silver finish. I like both whichever.

Touch pad design is neat and sleek. No separated buttons this time around.

Omission of VGA port. Finally yes! I cringed all the time, now it is gone!

Screen is anti-smudge fingerprint. Big + over last years model!

Battery The battery lasts between 5 1/2 hrs 6 hours. It is just about the same amount

hours I get from a full charge than last year's model.

Gaming I played Walking Dead so far on Steam. Runs great with this nvidia 620m card.

However, I jumped from a 540m last year to a 620m and wonder if this year is weaker

or nearly the same performance. This is the only sacrifice I made in getting this

U47VC laptop.

Since I don't do much gaming on the go, this area here really suffices for me.

Features This laptop has an extra USB 3.0 port oppose to only one last year. The nice

architecture about Ivy bridge is it supports USB 3.0 natively from intel.

This means no more installing third party drivers. Yes finally!

Only downside to this laptop is the panel used in most laptops. TN panels have disaster viewing angles. I say enough is enough already with this low quality tech. IPS or AMVA panels are desirable.

9/10 laptop score overall. It is excellent and I hopefully will keep this gem for a few years to come until I get a super slim ultrabook.

Gateway ID49C12u 14 Inch Laptop - Arctic Silver

This is almost a perfect laptop. Excellent size +/14 inches. Very light +/5 pounds. The Intel i5 cpu is a fantastic chip and runs applications like a breeze, 4.6 on the Windows 7 user experience index. I've had absolutely no issues with the product, in fact, the touch pad is better than most other laptops I've used. The specs vs price seemed just right for what I needed this laptop for and the item delivered in all aspects.

I receive my laptop last Oct 21, 2010 because I work on the ship. Im very impressed with the look of the laptop. It doesn't look cheap and the design was elegant. The only problem that I encountered is sometimes when I press the touchpad button (the one on the left), its not responding... Sometimes i need to tap the center touchpad before it response... it is hassle when i want to drag a file...i cant drag it because the left button is not responding... and I used this laptop for Deejaying so dragging files is common in my command... Sometimes I need to try it several times before it rsponse... I am not sure if i need to upgrade the driver for touchpad or not but its giving me hard time... I haven't complaint yet to Amazon because I'm still testing it.

The rest of the specification is good and fast. I will recommend this laptop...

After spending MANY hours with Gateway Tech Service, updating programs, system restores over many many calls I had to spend $18 to ship it to them for repair. They "fixed" it and sent it back. This laptop is very good for the price. The touch pad takes a little getting used to, especially after sharing a macbook pro with my wife. But I've been using this computer for a week now, and I'm starting to like the touch pad a little better. Right click remains an issue (have to click more than once sometimes), but again, it's always a matter of getting used to something new. The keyboard is awesome. I'd say it's better than my wife's macbook pro and she reluctantly agreed. The computer is fast, looks great, and is the perfect size.

The sound quality and surround sound is great. But the computer lacks volume and doesn't get very loud. With headphones it sounds great. The new Windows 7 is pretty stable. However, beware that if you don't set it to go into sleep mode when you close the lid it will lock up -just one of those things with windows. I don't think it has anything to so with the computer itself.

It's also very light and the battery life is what gateway says it is (5 hours or so depending on what you're running).

For the price, look no further...it's a keeper.

I originally purchased the HP Pavilion dm3-3110us 13.3-Inch Notebook PC Silver but ended up returning it due to the processor was just not fast enough for my needs. Both have a similar silver design and are lightweight. I actually prefer the overall looks on the HP but this Gateway is much faster for my needs.

I upgraded the ram to 8gb using Corsair 8 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory Kit CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9 and noticed a huge difference in overall performance. Windows Performance score is 4.7.

I am not having any problems with the touchpad like others have mentioned, in fact I really like this type of pad. Has a solid feel and 'click' when pushed. The glowing touchpad is ok but would have preferred a backlit keyboard. Speaking of keyboard this design is really nice with open space between the keys making it easy to clean with some canned air.

Didn't come with a ton of software installed like the HP mentioned above...which is a good thing

CD rom is ok but these days it is something I really don't need anymore but may appeal to others

Weighs just a tad over 5 pounds

Speakers are nothing great and do not get that loud. Quality is great with headphones

Has a dedicated social network key but prefer to view it all in a browser instead of using the app

My last desktop was a Gateway and it lasted over 5 years with absolutely no issues before I sold it.

The computer looks nice but has its share of issues. First of all Windows 8 is horrible, horrible, horrible. Forget your current copy machine, fax machine, or printer. This system rejects ANY software not designed for windows 8, not to mention Word or Excel software that you might have. They want you to spend more money on the same stuff you already have.

Almost every email disappears because the system is too sensitive to the heat from your fingers and wipes it right out of there. How many emails I have spent lots of time writing only to have it disappear on me the moment my thumb glides past the mouse area. This has happened numerous times and is part of why I am so compelled to write a review to begin with.

Next, because the mouse area is soooooo touchy, I'm constantly trying to find my way back to internet or other screens because different apps keep resurrecting from somewhere and taking over my screen. Where is the "X" to get rid of it? Nowhere because these apps that dominate the screen have no "X".

If you are a fast 'typer' take this laptop off your list. You will have so many issues with strange things popping up that even if you are the calmest person on the planet you will become so frustrated in such a short amount of time you will be ready to throw this thing out a window.

I have had Dell laptops in the past and NEVER had ANY of these issues. Windows 7 was great!! I don't know about other HP's but this one is definitely not the one. As for Windows 8 avoid it. It has too many glitches and is too touch sensitive. Also would like to mention that it seems that once an app becomes your screen, it will keep coming back on its own from 'brushing your hand' unintentionally, and the only way to truly keep that app from interrupting everything is to shut down and reboot the computer. For some reason that app will not go back to it's original compartment until you do that.

UPDATE: For those of you who bought this computer because of a tight $$$ situation, here is an idea that helped me. Finally! First I will say that the ONLY reason I didn't take this back is because of privacy concerns after using it and giving it the benefit of a doubt. Enough said.

Go to a 'thrift store' and get any mouse, and get a keyboard, and plug them in. This will elimated the crazy mouse issues this computer has. Yes, it sucks because you bought something compact, but if you want to keep your sanity, do that. I will caution you here, when looking for a keyboard make sure the connector is flat and not round. There is no place to plug a big round connector. The next issue is that it hard to find keyboards with a flat plug in connector. Guess what?!?! I bought a simple 'Apple' keyboard for $3. It had a flat connector. I figured what the heck, for $3 I'll give it a try. Guess what? It works great with this computer. I have no more problems with the heat of my fingers doing crazy things with an oversensitive mouse. No problems, nada.

If you don't have the funds go get a cheap thrift store find. If you have the funds I suggest getting the Apple keyboard (clear acrylic one, don't have a model number) because the connector is FLAT and plugs right in.

Dell Latitude E6330

I got a decked out E6330 from work. It's a light and very fast computer with long battery life and I like to use it. But, I was totally shocked when I saw the price. I also personally own a 9 month old 13" macbook pro and a two year old Lenovo T400. Externally the Dell is no where near the build quality of either of those machines, not even close. The screen colors look pasty in comparison and the keyboard feels rubbery and is not very nice to the touch. When I type on the Lenovo I get a really satisfying snap to the keyboard. When I put my hands on the macbook the texture and smoothness of the track pad make it a joy to touch.

When I saw the order sheet for the Dell it talked about the Tri-Metal chassis which made me think the case would be really nice, but it's maybe just average. It also gets surprisingly hot just sitting on my desk doing nothing. The fan kicks in and out in an extreme fashion instead of just calming winding up and down. My Macbook almost never gets warm to the touch unless it is really chugging, and I almost never notice the fan. The Dells lid hinges are very stiff and if the laptop is sitting on a desk and I try to lift the lid the whole laptop lifts up and sometimes the lid gives way after it's tilted up and the the bottom part of the machine slams back down onto the desk. The first time I saw this happen I was shocked. I've handled probably a hundred macbooks at my previous job and they never did that even once!

I really don't know why so many IT departments who have to force you into windows buy from Dell instead of at least getting you a Lenovo or Asus.

Like the other reviewer, my Dell Latitude E6330 was provided by my employer to replace a five-year-old Dell laptop that was pretty sluggish. This new machine zips along, processing Photoshop or Word without hesitation. The start up and shut down are so much faster, I feel like I gain 20 minutes of working time a day. Most days I connect it to a monitor and keyboard via a docking station, so I don't deal with smaller screen size or bit clunky keyboard except on teleworking days. Even then, this PC is passable, though, I agree, the color rendering is not quite true and for real nitty gritty production I prefer my Apple.

Still for a basic workhorse this machine works fine and its processing speed is a plus. The screen holds itself up and swivels with no problem for different viewing perspectives. The battery life makes it easier to be untethered and haul the laptop to a back porch or around the house. I use it on a lap desk and have not noticed excess heat on mine.

The list price is a bit shocking and I have feeling mine was part of a group buy for a lower cost. The short and long of it is that I would not pay the sticker price for this laptop, but if you still need a laptop for work, give this one some latitude if you can get one for a more reasonable cost.

Purchased this 4545s ProBook at TigerDirect, $500, using Amazon for their gurarantee's 12/25/12.

Bought because: value for the money, non-gloss screen, both Windows 7 pro and Windows 8 operating systems included.

Works well.

Spent some time uninstalling the not needed "extras" HP supplied. Going to have to talk with Microsoft about product key because there is no COA on this machine.

One irritating point: touchpad was a bit centered for tapping. You have to tap more toward the center of the pad than other laptops. I "fixed" this by uninstalling the HP touchpad software. It becomes "normal". If you want the two finger stuff, go over to Synaptics and get the latest download.

Will report back when/if there is anything more to report.

Great laptop and Tigerdirect is a great company. They are responsive if there is an issue and want you to get your product and this product is great. Fast loading, good screen resolution. Not sure about the camera yet as I haven't tried it. The touchpad isn't that great though. Get a mouse. That is my only complaint though. Everything else is great though

I purchased this laptop Black Friday 2009, so I've owned it for just about a year now. I must say it's probably the most durable piece of equipment next to some of the older Lenovos. I work on computers for a living, so I see my fair share of models and manufacturers come back. Sony by far is the least that I see come in for manufacturer defects or any other issues. Obviously software based issues are a different story, and mostly user error anyway :P

I've dropped this thing a few times, once on my foot, once while open, spilled a full glass of cheerwine and captain morgan, and the thing didn't even flinch. The T4300 is a decent middle of the road processor, but it provides plenty of power along with the other laptop specs. I don't use the blu-ray as much since I have a PS3, but the HDMI out is perfect to stream college basketball games on a 46" TV from my home team that I don't get to see on regular cable.

I would say overall this is one of the more impressive Sony Vaios. I will definitely stick to Sony laptops in the future. I know there was a review on overheating, but honestly I haven't experienced this thing get hotter then body temperature, even after having it plugged in for a couple hours while playing COD black ops and downloading stuff at the same time. I understand the bad reviewer's frustration, but every model has that 1 bad apple!

I'm not sure what the guy with the heating issue is doing with his laptop. I push mine very hard and I don't have any heating issues. It may get a little warm at times, but no heating issues. I love the blu-ray and HDMI. It's like having my own home theater.

I've had this for a year and it's done everything I've asked it to. No complaints whatsoever. It looks clean and cut. No complaints here.

Sony is not only recalling a large amount of overheating laptops, but declining a large amount of overheating laptops due to their lack of customer service. I purchased this laptop on black friday and it recently overheated melting the laptop casing, keyboard, and touchpad. Sony declined it saying it I tampered with the device when I had Best Buy send it in for me they changed their story saying it was liquid damage. They said they needed $500 to fix the laptop and I refused to pay that because it was still under warranty. If Sony is going to default on their warranties like this they don't deserve to sell their products to individuals who can't afford to feed the greedy corporate hands of Sony. This laptop SERIES, the NW series is something I highly recommend you stay FAR away from. Sony is showing us that overheating is a common issue in their laptops and that they aren't prepared to let their shareholders down by actually fixing the products. I have had this laptop since 2009 as well, bought at Best Buy on black friday. It has survived Daytona Bike week, Myrtle Beach Bike week and Laconia Bike week 4 times. Been in backpacks traveling 80+mph with extreme vibration, all with no issues. I have never had an issue with it overheating, it does kick the fan on from time to time, but even when it was sitting on the bed, it still didnt have an issue. BluRay works great, speakers arent as bad as everyone says, I use headphones as well however, just due to ambient noise.

I had the pleasure of using this compact business-class laptop for several weeks; if I didn't have an unexpected Windows software issue, I wouldn't have shipped it back to its seller. So far so good. Love the space, love the numeric keypad, love how the keys feel when I press on them, the cam is good, mic is good. I'm not up to date with Windows 8 so navigating around has been kind of frustrating but I love the computer. Bought it for school so I think it could have came with a Microsoft package but ooh well. AMD Radeon HD 7640G (512MB Graphics memory at 686MHz with 256 shader cores!)

Decent sized keyboard and screen (15.6" LED at 1360x768)

Not too big or too heavy, sturdy

Standby battery life is great, while in use the battery life is average

Cons:

Arrow keys are TINY

Screen glare, the glossy plastic is garbage

If you have on old system and just want a quick upgrade to a decent laptop, get this! If you want to get a desktop, don't get this. If you want a top-notch gaming laptop, don't get this. If you just want to be able to play your favorite games on medium settings (LFD2, CS:S, Minecraft, COD:MW2, GTA:IV) , do some internet browsing and music playing, and want to play movies in 1080p: GET THIS!

For the most part, I am satisfied with the laptop. Had to get used to the keyboard, which is different than most other laptops I've used (has the number pad on the right, like a regular PC keyboard). The touch pad is annoying in that the way it is placed, I end up bumping it unintentionally all the time, but that's minor.

The main grievance I have with this laptop is the terrible quality of the speakers. I need headphones to actually be able to HEAR with headphones it is acceptable. Without headphones, the volume is very very muted.
