GATEWAY NV5927U LAPTOP WITH INTEL CORE I3-330M (2.13GHz), 4GB DDR3, 320GB, 4xBLU-RAY, 15.6" LED LCD

GATEWAY NV5927U LAPTOP WITH INTEL CORE I3-330M, 4GB DDR3, 320GB, 4xBLU-RAY, 15.6' LED LCD, GbE, WEBCAM, CARD READER, WIN 7 HOME PREM 64-BITI've had my NV5927u for a couple of years now and it's been a great machine. I've edited a feature length movie on it and can still play many of the latest games. It's not a top of the line machine and that should be considered, but for the money I paid, I cannot complain at all.

I wish I could give less than 1 start if any. The worst laptop and worst customer service ever. The battery went bad in a year. the charging cord went bad in two years. The hard drive broken in 2.5 year. I was lucky enough to buy an additional warranty which changed the hard drive for me. However, the original win7 came with the laptop expired because of the change of hard drive (speculated by customer service). I could have reinstalled win 7 if the key number at the bottom is not worn off. Since the key is not readable, I asked Gateway to send me again my key. Sorry, your warranty expired and we cannot help. But, if you buy reboot CD and reboot yr system, everything will be fixed. I paid $20 and bought the CD. The CDs (4 total) do not work. After two 3-hour chatting with customer services, they told me the CDs may be defective. I could be better off to buy win7 from my college book store for $20, but the customer persuaded to buy their dame CD. They have told me to reformat my computer to allow the CDs to work, which did not work. The next time, I tried to contact them, they told me again, sorry your warranty is expired. I told them, maybe, but the CDs you sold me last week are not expired, right? They told me to call during office hours to try again, whereas no phone number could be found anywhere on their website.... Gateway, the worst laptop and customer service. Do not buy it.

Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US 14-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US 14-Inch LaptopI'm very happy with this machine. Fast, light, solid build, good-looking, great screen, comfortable back-lit keyboard. About identical in size and weight to a 13-inch Macbook, but with a 14" screen. Screen resolution is 1600 x 900, equivalent to Macbook and a step up from the 1366 x 768 standard on a lot of Windows laptops. (Sony touts its "full HD" 1920 x 1080 displays, but I found it made screen objects just too small. This is a happy medium.) It's quiet: the fan hardly ever comes on, and when it does it's not too loud. Good battery life: 5 to 6 hours easily without even going to the "max" power-saving scheme.

I have no real complaints, only a couple of wishes. More USB ports -it has one 2.0 and one 3.0 (although personally I've never needed more); a Blu-ray drive; a Core i7 option.

I bought this after returning a 15.5" Sony Vaio S-series, which had a flimsy, wobbly screen with the aforementioned "Full HD", an annoying off-center touchpad, and a form factor that was just too big and wide. I'm much happier with the Samsung.

One recommendation: whichever power-management scheme you use, edit it so that the wireless card is set to "Maximum Performance" when unplugged -the default slows wireless to a crawl in order to save a little juice. (If you see Samsung dinged on forums for slow wireless, that's why, and it's an easy adjustment that completely resolves the issue.)

Update 7/9/12: I'm still very happy with it. No changes to my earlier comments. Some people complain about the touchpad, it is very sensitive by default, but I lowered the sensitivity using the control panel and now it rarely misinterprets random thumb or palm touches as taps.

The pictures for this product are for the 15.6" version and are NOT of the 14" version. The 14" version does not have the number pad on the keyboard. The 14" has one USB 3.0 port and one USB 2.0 port on the left side. There are no USB ports on the right side.

Overall I REALLY like this laptop. It is plenty fast, has a higher resolution display than most of its competitors, is very portable, and is well built. I am a big fan of matte laptop displays and Samsung does not disappoint on this device. I find the keyboard on this laptop to be easier to type on than most others I have tried, especially the Asus G51VX I am coming from. Unibody construction would be nice, but given the price point and the hardware this contains I can overlook it. The track pad is very large. If I'm not careful I can hit it with my left wrist while typing. I'm 6'2" and have large wrists though, it may not be an issue for everyone. This isn't a big issue for me since I typically disable the track pad and use a mouse anyways. If you're in the market for a lighter, very portable, but yet powerful laptop: I highly recommend the Series 7 14".

EDIT: Amazon has updated the photos for this product. They are now correct for the 14" version.

Buy Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US 14-Inch Laptop (Silver) Now

After having my Sony Vaio SA2 stolen I was forced into purchasing a new laptop. The things I loved about the Vaio were: dedicated graphics card, battery life, weight, hdmi output, backlit keyboard, screen resolution 1600x900, and appearance.

However there were some things that I didn't like; build, materials, noisy fan, and slow hard drive speed. So sense I had to buy a new laptop I wanted to make sure to address some of the issues I had with the Vaio, but maintain the things that I did like about it as well. Thus I came across the Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US Laptop.

This Laptop addressed every single issue I had with the Vaio, its better built(screen is solid not flimsy like it was with the Vaio) has a bigger and faster hard drive(1TB, and 8gb of ssd),more ram(8gb vs 4gb on Vaio) and it maintained all the things I loved about the Vaio(speed, graphics card, backlit keyboard, screen resolution 1600x900, and size) .

The only very small, almost not worth mentioning difference, between the Samsung vs the Sony, was that the Sammy cost $150 dollars more, and it weighs about 1lb over the the Sony. Either way these minimalistic differences didn't stop me from making the switch and not looking back at my Vaio SA2

I also want to reinforce what the previous reviewer said, the picture that Amazon has is for the z5a and not the z3a. That being said if your looking for a well made, good looking, portable power house, BUY THIS LAPTOP!

PROS:

Speed processor(dual core i5 2.5 up to 3.0ghz speed)

Hard drive 1TB and 8gb of SATA(SSD like speed)

Screen 1600x900

Dedicated Graphics Card AMD RADEON HD 6490M

RAM 8GB DDR3

Build Screen Lid is solid, brushed aluminum

HDMI If you like to watch movies, play games, and stream videos on a larger screen this is a must.

Back Lit Keyboard Helps allot in low light situations it became a must for me after experiencing it.

Cons:

Weight Over 4lbs tends to be a little heavy(subjective)

Read Best Reviews of Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US 14-Inch Laptop (Silver) Here

A little bigger than other ultrabooks, but alot more powerful.

PROS:

supports 8GB RAM, this was lightest laptop that I could find supporting 8GB of RAM

Very fast, CPU is better than most other ultrabooks

nice resolution.. things are small, but not too small

some newer battery technology, supposedly letting it last longer

the backlit keyboard is very nice, and the keyboard layout is easy to type with

CONS:

Only 2 USB, both on left side. The USB3 seems to give me issues, might be my driver.

Battery is NOT removable (as long as the battery-life works as intended, this shouldn't be a problem).

CD-Rom is NOT removable... i really not even need an optical drive

Weight is a little heavy, it's not bad.. but could be a little lighter

NOTE: If you do a clean install of windows, like i did, be sure to get the WIFI drivers from the Intel website (not from Samsung). I spend hours trying to figure out way my WIFI would not stay connected in Windows 7 64. Once I installed Intel's drivers (which claim to be an older version) it worked flawlessly.

For $1K, I'm pretty happy. The only comparable light/powerful laptop that met my RAM requirements was from Sony at about $2K.

Want Samsung Series 7 NP700Z3A-S06US 14-Inch Laptop (Silver) Discount?

I've had my Samsung for two months now so I'm here to tell you about it!

What I like:

Screen is bright enough I usually just leave it at minimum brightness and it is suffice

The backlit keyboard and the spacing on the keyboard as well

Quick start-up

Webcam is decent-not amazing but better than my prior computer

Speakers are great-you get a lot of sound at a relatively low setting

Not too heavy

The screen isn't flimsy, after I got it I had to open my old computer for something and it felt so flimsy compared to the Samsung

The machine loads fast (although for the first week after I got it I would've said differently but after some updates that was fixed)

What I don't like as much:

The vent-it's in the hinges where screen meets machine so it can get hot but more so on the top so as long as you have some heat tolerance and don't go sticking your hand above the vent you'll be fine

It came with Skype installed but it was the 32-bit version so I had to get rid of Skype and download it in the 64-bit version-took about 20 minutes to fix but 2 days to figure out

Things to know:

CD/DVD player is a slot you slide the disc into (I have no negative opinion on that)

1 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 (I would have liked there to be one more, but I can settle for two)

Microphone and headphone are combined into one hole for both

Mouse pad has clickers built into the pad-beware, the clickers only work if you click on the fourth of the mouse pad closest to you

If you think you can't adjust something try googling it, I've learned a lot through doing so-For example the machine comes and it will change screen brightness to compensate the amount of light coming through the light sensor, but you can disable that

Some of the bloat ware like Youcam (similar to photobooth on Mac) can be very useful, others like Mediasuite I have no use for and it may pop-up when working with song files rather than iTunes (which you'll have to download if you want)

Be sure to do updates! Otherwise you'll feel like you got robbed, but it moves swiftly as soon as the updates are on

Overall I have enjoyed this computer so unless I update (if I do I'll post the date I do so) I'd have to say it might be a bit overpriced (I got mine on sale though) but overall I am happy with mine. I would recommend this as a personal computer, if you're mainly doing work I think you'll find a better price that will fit your needs but I'd defiantly recommend this to a person who spends a good bit of time with their machine!

2560P I5-2520M 12.5 320G 4G

2560P I5-2520M 12.5 320G 4GWe've deployed win7 64bit enterprise on several of these, and they have been rock solid, and our employees like the combination of highspeed/light/long battery life laptops. Good quality, rugged too. Most employees are docked during the day, outputing 1080P HD to a large LED monitor, and this performs like a desktop.

6 Month Update:

So far so goodthese have been rock solid, and unlike a few other system types we've managed in the past, they still look and feel close to brand new after employees have carted them back and forth for 6 months. I've not had any complaints from our employees, and some employees not due for system replacements are asking "when do I get one?"...and if you're thinking about ultrabooks, keep in mind these Elitebooks are less than 4 poundsthe screens are not as nice as some ultrabooks, but I don't think travelers will complain about their size.

Very solid build quality and attractive styling ... but after comparing the track pointer, screen, and keyboard to a similar Lenovo Thinkpad model T420s ... we went with the Lenovo. Comes down to personal preference since I thnk this is still a very, very nice compact laptop. Overall size was a bit smaller than I would have preferred. But for someone toting this around vs. household use ... this might be a very good choice. Excellent amazon return policy allowed us to get just the right laptop for our needs.

ASUS B43S-XH51 (14.1-Inch Screen) Laptop

ASUS B43S-XH51 LaptopI had been looking for a medium priced laptop that also had lots of features. Being patient, I knew eventually I would find what I wanted for the right price. I located this Asus B43S-XH51 laptop on Amazon by accident. I was looking through the ASUS website and saw this Business laptop that was made extremely well and offered everything I wanted and more. The price was a really good deal. Then I noticed their website mentioned Amazon was one of the retailers offering this laptop, so I clicked on it.

I like ASUS products because I have owned several of their products, including two Netbooks that have served me very well. This system came equipped with

a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5-2520M, 4 GB DIMM (I also purchased 8gb upgrade separately) 500 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive (I wanted a 256gb SSD, but couldn't beat this price), a 14.1-Inch Screen (which is the perfect size for traveling) and Windows 7 Professional (which I have on my Home PC and my wife's Laptop, so I am completely familiar and happy with Win 7 Pro. This system fit my need perfectly.

Once I received it, I fell in love with this laptop. Its very attractive, super well designed and constructed and operates flawlessly. The screen has several adjustments and is very clear and bright. Battery life is typical for a laptop, about 2.5 3 hours with continuous use. I thought I would look for a bigger battery, but when using this in my travels, I seldom use it where there is no outlets and when I do, I have never totally exhausted the battery. Its not the lightest laptop out there, but I prefer heavy constructed aluminum case and the very durable overall construction of this laptop over saving weight. What's an extra pound anyway, its not like you're going jogging while carrying it anyway.

I give this laptop 5-stars and with my history using ASUS products, I fully expect trouble free years of use from it also. And I want to add that the battery comes with a full 3-year warranty.

Bought for my wife's telework this because I have had great reliability and performance with ASUS products before--router, netbook, desktop mother boards, etc. We bought the business laptop because we thought it would be more reliable and rugged. We have had to send to California ($20 each time for shipping, and minimum two weeks) for service twice within the first three months as the network adapter failed within a few day of use. I finally just bought a $20 USB network adapter. Will not buy ASUS again, which is disappointing! Otherwise, a great laptop.

Gateway Laptop Nv55c56u

Gateway Laptop Nv55c56uFor years I held off on buying a laptop. Mainly because I had bought a netbook back in 2009 and it had sufficed for my mobile computing needs.

In November 2011 this unit was at Bestbuy's BF sale and I bought one.

Construction:

The unit feels quite solid. I found no problems with its construction.

Display: The 15.6" screen size is more than adequate for most all of my computing uses:

browsing

working with office docs, spreadsheets and such.

video viewing (such as youtube or DVDs) is great. No display problems, no choppiness in playback.

External screen outputs: Either one works fine, to drive a larger, external monitor.

VGA port (aka HD15 port)

HDMI port

Built-in card reader:

I have tested some 16GB SDHC cards which had "Live versions" of linux loaded on them.

The card reader worked fine both an SD card reader and as a secondary boot device for the "Live" linux OS loaded onto the SDHC cards.

Battery life:

This laptops battery life is quite good. I have not ran the battery down completely but with my choice to

keep the screen "brighter" than normal while it's on battery, I'm still getting an estimated 4 hours+ of battery life.

this factor has moved me away from using my old netbook as often as I had in the past, since my netbook's 3-cell battery's life was short compared to this Gateway laptop.

Wireless:

reception and connection speed is good for this device. It does it's MS updates, it's AV updates and all downloads via wireless with no problems.

CPU: This CPU and this unit's overall speed is better than I had expected.

I use i5 and i7 laptops at work and have not found this gateway i3 to be much slower than the faster

i-series CPU laptops I use at work.

I purchased this computer on Cyber Monday of this year (2012) at a rock bottom price of $309.00 If that isn't unbelievable enough, let me tell you what an awesome package this is! It works unbelievably well and has all the bells and whistles as it came with Windows 7 which I love. The laptop is lightweight, the battery lasts just long enough, and it has plenty of space; even for a homeschooling parent. I think this MUST be the best computer on the market for the most reasonable price! We watch our expenditures in my house and this product is worth much more than I paid for it. Good quality!

Asus Matte Deep Blue Square 14" X401U-EBL4 Laptop PC with AMD E1 1200 Processor, 4GB, 320GB HD, Web

Asus Matte Deep Blue Square 14' X401U-EBL4 Laptop PC with AMD E1 1200 Processor, 4GB, 320GB HD, Webcam and Windows 7 Home PremiumI bought this laptop for work and after several months of owning it here are my impressions of it.

In terms of external features, this laptop seems to offer a good bit, sporting an HDMI and VGA port, USB 3.0 port, multitouch track pad and a Webcam. Overall, the features are very good for the price you pay for it.

Internal's on this laptop are on par with other budget laptops. Intel Pentium processor, 2-4GB of RAM and Intel integrated graphics wont hold up running AutoCAD or Photoshop very well but handle essential business apps like Outlook, Word and internet browsing just fine. Some apps like VLC can take up to 20 seconds to load but after loading, they run without issue.

Overall construction isn't the best ive ever seen but its certainly not the worst. Laptop manufacturers these days have moved away from making laptops out of tough matte casing that lasts for years to shiny casing that looks good in-store but holds up poorly in day-to-day use. The casing on this laptop skips the gloss but still attracts some fingerprints and the screen is also glossy though a screen protector should fix that. Overall I've found the casing to be better than other budget laptops but still nothing compared to the casing found on proper business laptops (think Dell Precision and HP EliteBook). However you get what you pay for and for the money its not that bad.

The laptop ships with Windows 7 Home Premium and there isn't too much to be said here in terms of features. The laptop is slowed somewhat by bloatware and the 64bit flavor of Windows 7. However if you're willing to get your hands dirty, re-installing Windows in the 32bit flavor and leaving out the bloatware should speed things up considerably.

Overall you get what you pay for. For the money this laptop is one of the best deals on the market and with a few tweaks on the software side, this laptop will be a perfect companion for basic computing tasks.

I love this lap top. I wanted Windows 7 & this is it. Others said the mouse is too touchy, but there are adjustments built in for the preferred touch. The speakers underneath does hinder the sound. I'm going to purchase an extra speaker, tho.

It plays both 720p and 1080p Youtube videos FLAWLESSLY. Maybe it's my good connection.

My touchpad is working good so far and if indeed gets damage I have a tiny mouse for backup.

I don't need a cd drive as I have always used Usb hard drives.

The HDMI is wonderful , I play a movie and connect this baby to my tv and its awesome!!!

OKAY now to what I want to say

.....I've been starting to get a few problems with this laptop to the point that I wanted to sell it back, But I found out that the OS *operating system* has been modified for some unknown reason and this causes bugs from the keyboard, to the touchpad..AND I found a way to fix it, which is a simple solution. ALSO this makes your Laptop MUCH FASTER...

If you're planning to get this laptop I recommend to buy a 4 gb usb drive and download Windows 7 usb/dvd download tool and burn a Windows 7 Home premium 32/64 bit, ((depending on your Laptop)) ISO file to the Usb drive with the program.

After burning the ISO file to the USB, disconnect it and connect it again.. Start up the Windows Installer and install the new fresh copy and follow instruction

This removes EVERYTHING from your current OS from files to programs BUT DO NOT FEAR..

After installing the OS FORMAT the USB drive and Use another computer or the library to download necessary files from the Asus support website...

and download Atheros Wireless Lan Driver and Application ... and also Foxconn Wireless Lan Driver and Application.. COPY it to the USB drive and put it on your Laptop....

Install these to put Wifi back on your laptop...after you put Wifi back , Use the laptop to download more files, like the bluetooth one or the mouse / touchpad settings one..

Download every file that looks necessary and install them on your Laptop... ALSO do a Windows Update.. BUT you can't do an Update unless you verify that you have a legit copy of windows By going to Start Control Panel System and Security System Scroll down to where it says Windows activation and Activate Now! , use the key on the sticker on the back of your Laptop

DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN ALSO INSTALL UBUNTU ON THIS

ASUS G75VX-BHI7N09 i7-3940XM 3.9GHz GTX 670MX 16GB RAM 750GB HDD Windows 8Considering this is a gaming laptop that is almost 3 grand, it should have a 680m at least, not a 670mx. I understand that a lot of the price comes from the CPU, but considering the target demographic(gamers), it is a waste of an upgrade. A weaker CPU, and better GPU would be a better choice. Also, for this price you could get dual GPUs in SLi or CrossfireX in a laptop.

Dell Latitude D630 14.1" Notebook (Core 2 Duo T7500 2.0GHz 2GB 60GB CDRW/DVDRW)

Dell Latitude D630 14.1' NotebookI bought this laptop a little over 2 months, and it's been a pleasure working with it. I bought it used in very good condition. I was a little scared about buying it used, but so far it hasn't giving me any trouble. I'm very pleased with my purchase and would recommend this laptop to anyone that is on a tight budget.

We bought this computer for my sons birthday. Product was exactly as described. Very happy with our new computer. However, the box it was shipped in was way too big. it was not packaged right at all. It was bumped around alot in the delivery process. It was delivered in a timely fashion and it made it here unscathed. Proper packaging should be a priority in future mailings. But other than that, this was a great buy and the rest of the service we received was awesome:)

*within one week of purchasing this product, the screen malfunctioned. We took the computer to geek squad and also a personal friend who fixes computers and we were told it would cost over 300 dollars to fix the screen. I contacted the seller several times before the 30 days was up and they NEVER got back to me. We now have a broken computer that the seller wont exchange or refund. Total waste of money. The refurbished parts were so old geek squad couldn't help fix it and told me I had to contact dell to see if they even had the parts. This computer is JUNK. I lost my money on this computer.

This works great... BUT I really wanted one that plays DVD's as well and it won't. Even after phone calls it STILL won't. They had no suggestions.

My beef is that I decided to use these people again to purchase another computer later. The computer worked really well, but had a few little niggles that needed to be fixed (how it shuts down; and once it is, the inability for it to start back up again). I could not get any response from them... they didn't answer phone calls, they never once replied to my emails no matter how much I pleaded. Finally one day I had a stroke of luck they answered the phone but by that time the screen had gone funny and I needed their help big time. They told me to pack it up and send it back (at my expense).

I'm now waiting to see how long it takes them to either send back my computer fixed, or email me with an idea of what is wrong with it... actually I'm just waiting for a response.................... I shouldn't complain I suppose, it HAS only been two weeks! And in the meantime I'm using my kids computer.
