Sony VAIO VPC-Z135GX/S Intel Core i5-460M (2.53GHz) 13.1-Inch (1600x900) Notebook with 4 GB RAM and

Sony VAIO VPC-Z135GX/S Intel Core i5-460M 13.1-Inch Notebook with 4 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD - SilverHave used Sony laptops for over 15 years, my prior ones all still work going back to Windows ME & 98!! I have had this i5 VPCZ1 series unit for 2 years. It's the first Sony where I have had troubles. The unit is really fast with the SSD & Windows 7 Professional. The screen is absolutely stunning and the whole unit is light. With a separate graphics chip it is perfect for heavy photographic work. BUT, this is the first Sony unit where one of the hinges broke and it is attached to the thin rim at the bottom of screen (and that's a REALLY BIGGER problem)!!! Also, there is now a bad connection for the whole keyboard. IT DOES NOT WORK. So the only way you can type anything is with a separate Bluetooth keyboard. A mouse with donagal works, but you need an OUTSIDE keyboard to type in the password to start the computer! So on this model, the case is really flimsy and constant use will stress the small hinges and they can split easily. I am surprised at Sony for this because I really love their computers and never expected, after owning so many of them, to find this i5 unit with such shoddy workmanship. I've looked at the new i7 4th generation Ultrabook Pro 13 series to buy...... BUT TO MY SURPRISE, it appears to have the same hinges!!! That one is over $2,000 with the large SSD but watch out for the hinges to go first.

Compaq 15.6" Celeron B800 1.50GHz Laptop | CQ57-339WM

Compaq 15.6' Celeron B800 1.50GHz Laptop | CQ57-339WMgood entry level computer, runs well for basic web browsing, music, and video streaming... not ment for heavy gaming or downloading though...

I bought this recently for college and got it much cheaper at walmart. I also play civilization 5 and Halo 2. I upgraded the RAM to 6 Gb for now . Having 2 gb of RAM for a windows 7 laptop is a sure fire way to have problems because windows 7 takes up almost all the RAM. so what you should do is go to a local computer shop and buy some used RAM cheap. New 4gb of DDR3 RAM is less than 20 bucks,so getting it used shouldnt cost much at all and the store will probably install it free since it takes two minutes. But this laptop is great for basic use and will not over heat easily because it is a more basic processor. The graphics are crisp for playing my games and watching movies on my laptop. It also is not that heavy, in the past I have had much heavier 15 inch laptops.i like the placement of the USB ports as well and the plug/cord is smaller and light weight than in the past.I also like that the top of the laptop is flat rather than textured. The battery lasts for about four hours on power saver, which is good for a low end laptop. The keyboard is alittle different than I am use to but that isn't a big deal to get use to. Overall,if your using this for basic things like watching movioes, playing older games, lower end new games, office productivity, and other basic uses this is the laptop for you.Compaq is the generic laptops HP makes and rtecently HP has really ramped up quality with its new CEO. HP also will pay for the upgrade to windows 8; if you pay 14.99 to upgrade HP will refund you the cost of the upgrade. I wouldn't touch windows 8 myself, there are alot of changes and complaints are starting to pile up about windows 8. I installed vista home basic 64 on this after I got it.

I got one of these for $279. For the price, and for my purposes, it does what I want it to do (I have a more powerful system for heavier tasks). I upgraded the memory to 8 gigabytes and the laptop is responsive and capable. I would look at this laptop for a teen who is not into heavy gaming, or for someone wanting a reasonably priced system for word processing, surfing the net, and other routine tasks.

If you do lots of tasks that require more processing power, or speed, obviously you would need to look for a more powerful system, and expect to pay accordingly.

Lenovo G575 43834HU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Lenovo G575 43834HU 15.6-Inch LaptopI invested in this computer mainly for the purpose of school work, but also for the occasional online gaming. So far I have not been able to really test the graphics card, I will update my review once I do. But onto what I do know: I admit, I love to type. I love the feeling of it, and the clicking of keys. This is one of the easiest keyboards I have ever been able to transition to! The 'island' style keys allows for minimal mistakes. The full number keypad is also a huge plus when entering data. The only downside so far was that McAfee came pre-installed, but it is easy enough to remove. This computer is so fast! I was amazed at how quickly it gets up and running, and it is QUIET! I don't have to worry about disturbing other people from the whirring of my last laptop. The screen is also very nice, it is more of a landscape view than I was used to, from my last clunker. But it has really grown on me. The casing is lightweight, and don't have to worry about fingerprints, or the occasional smear from my dog's nose. It has a VGA port, which is easily converted into DVI or HDMI with a cable. The sound is also good quality. I don't have to turn the speakers all the way up to hear over the fan.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this Lenovo laptop. It is perfect for someone who needs it for the basic needs, but wants to play some times. It comes with 4 gigs of ram, which makes it nice to not have to automatically upgrade the ram capacity.

*UPDATE* I have since played with the graphics card, and I cannot be happier! I have not experienced any lag with playing games at high graphics settings (Primarily on LOTRO, and Everquest2). It is a joy to play games with a quality experience!

*UPDATE* My 'o' key recently fell off. Literally, just fell off. In a panic of getting ready for finals, I called Lenovo, they were able to guarantee my warranty, and sent me a new keyboard with 2 day shipping! Had to replace it myself, but it wasn't too difficult, and they have guides available online.

The fan is very loud. 5-10mins later, the unit is getting hot.

I returned it to Amazon and order an ASUS. I have tried several Lenovo low end notebook. very bad quality. will not buy it again.

we received this laptop yesterday.. i uninstalled the crippled Office programs and installed the full Office setup.. the computer is not full of junk software like so many these days.. and i have to say it looks and feels nice so far.. the exterior has a leather look and feel to it.. the weight is enough to feel strong but not too heavy.. the graphics is sharp and the colors are bright.. this was bought as a gift by my daughters for their mother and i won't be able to give long term advice on it sorry.. but all in all what i did handle on it seems well worth the money..

again my thanks to Amazon..

Dell XPS XPS15-9474sLV 15-Inch Laptop

Dell XPS XPS15-9474sLV 15-Inch LaptopI've had problems with the wireless card on this computer since I got it. It says it's connected to the internet, but frequently drops the connection. I ended up paying $275 for Dell's concierge service, and they replaced the card, but it still happens, though slightly less often. The screen is great, lots of memory, runs quickly, even with Adobe Photoshop running but the internet issues kill this computer for me.

The display, processor speed, memory, and peripherals are excellent. Build quality is rugged. Keyboard is smaller than standard. If you're also using a standard keyboard it may take some getting used to when you switch back and forth, since the keys are in slightly different position. The blueray/dvd drive spins noisier than it should, but this seems specific to my laptop (we bought two and the other doesn't have this issue). Installed the OS on the solid state drive and it boots in under 10 seconds (laptop shipped booting from the hard drive), extremely fast! Overall this is a good laptop for the money.

Buy Dell XPS XPS15-9474sLV 15-Inch Laptop Now

I really love this computer! It's not the fastest thing you can get on the market but it's certainly worth every cent I paid for it! The keyboard is really responsive and quiet. The touch pad is wonderful, picks up the lightest touch when you want it to but it never picks up my wrists. Really nice features and a really sturdy design.

The touch pad and around the touch pad has a rubberized feel to it that can be hard to keep clean so keep that in mind. If you're a neat freak like myself, this might not be the best choice for you. It's pretty heavy for it's size, the macbook pro weighs a good pound less than this guy. Battery life is pretty good, lasts a good 5 and a half hours fully charged when watching a movie so you can get through the majority of plane rides with this guy.

Great computer overall, I would highly suggest this to any of my friends.

The laptop really sucks. I called Dell THREE times for different problems in the first week. The problems include a fallen-out Fn key, a disfunction SD slot and the BIOS system. The touchpad is really a mess because it reacts to anything even a hair on it. I chose XPS because my last laptop is an XPS and I never called Dell for technical help for SIX years. In my opinion the company is going down and my next laptop is definitely NOT gonna be a Dell.

Inspiron 3520 15 Inch Notebook/laptop Computer Windows 8 64-bit Color Black

Inspiron 3520 15 Inch Notebook/laptop Computer Windows 8 64-bit Color BlackOut of the box, seems a bit cheaper than the other 3 Dell products I have bought in the past ( 2 laptops and a desk top). Problems never resolved after 2 months with Dell. 1) Wireless connection in my home inconsistent at best, drop-out of connection ever 5-10min (not the case with any other device in my home). Keypad, almost on usable, would jump to other locations at any given time, again never had this problem with any other computer. Sorry to say,but Dell seems to be cutting back a quality. Buy Be Ware ! $$$

Long term customer of Dell mostly use them as part of a church based debt advice service. Bought this in November 2012, great until a Restart or worse, a Windows Update all Internet is lost. Many many MANY hours spent with Dell the emails with them, then found it sort of worked at the church network so shifted to TalkTalk our ISP. After 2 evenings with them they have kindly sent a new router then last night it wouldn't connect at church!

I have (for the 15th time) restored it back to Factory settings (where it all wotks) and switched off Windows Updates (again!) and will de-install McAfee (again!) if it doesn't work this time its going back.

Wow, I'm very disappointed to say the least. Not only is this laptop cheaply made, but I have had nothing but problems it ever since I got it (and I assure you, I'm not computer illiterate). I bought the laptop in January of 2013, and it became pretty much unusable by March 2013. I had it for only three months when it broke down on me, and I only used it to go online (I don't download anything, I really just come here on Amazon.com, Facebook, and the occasional browse). I have a security system on it as well and ran full scans on it every few days.

Well, it has been giving me a completely black screen immediately upon initial login, making the laptop completely unusable.

What is most frustrating about this is that DELL Support is absolutely useless. I have called multiple times, waited on hold for hours just to speak with somebody that can hardly speak english to gives me a useless canned response. Not to mention they also give me different responses every time I call, and they've tried to sell me one ($150-$270) "miracle fix" after another, after of course insisting that the issue isn't their problem. Oh, not to mention these "fixes" are inconsistentit's always something else I should purchase to fix the laptop that I've only had for about 3 months.

Yes, it seems like a good deal, but at this point, to salvage it, it's looking like I would have to spend more money on these "fixes" than I spent on the laptop in the first place.

If you buy this laptop and it doesn't work, you're pretty much SOL unless you can return it to the website/store you bought it from. Unless of course you want to pay for a fixbut then you might as well get a better quality laptop.

Not worth the time, not worth the frustration, and CERTAINLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!

Plus, Windows 8 is absolutely horrid. Not user friendly, just a pain in the butt really (but that is just my opinion).

I am a computer professional. I use a top of the line iMac at work and I've got a couple of computers I use for DAW and Video Editing/Graphics work.

But, really, for a laptop that I use to check email, surf the 'net, edit a spreadsheet or write a document, this laptop is a very nice value. (I am using it right now and I'm pretty sure you can't tell this review was not written on my iMac).

-It is 64-bit

-It is running Windows 8 Home (I know, but it's really not to different from Windows 7 in a lot of ways, except in the area of Printer Drivers. The Windows 7 drivers do seem to like to play well with Windows 8.)

=It has a Dual-core Processor

-It has 4 Gig of Memory

-It has a 320 Gig Hard drive.

-It has a HDMI out

-It has Bluetooth

-It has 10/100 Wired and 802.11b/g/n Wireless

-It has a CD/DVD Burner

That's a lot for under $300.

The only real downside, and all laptops in this price range will have the same issue, is of screen resolution. Yes, it a 15" screen, but the resolution is pretty minimal. I mean, it's OK, but I don't get very many rows on my spreadsheet to display when I editing one.

Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch LaptopI purchased this laptop after returning a similar ACER version which was defective. The Inspiron is a typical DELL product, very good but not outstanding. This particular machine has no defects that I can tell; it has a chicklet keyboard like the ACER, but the keys are a bit more raised and rounded, and I find I can touch-type on it without too much difficulty (I do not like chicklet keyboards!) One property of this machine that astounded me was the weight...this is no feather-light item--it seems to weigh a ton, figuratively speaking. The screen definition is excellent, but this particular unit can't be set low enough in brightness to make viewing comfortable under all conditions. I recommend it as a compromise between a fixed-location unit and a true portable. One can carry it in an appropriate satchel, but it is not a unit that one would use on the subway or in an airplane...it is too massive.

I have owned many Dells desk tops and have been supplied Dell lap tops by my work, and when my eight year old Dell desk top started slowing down, I decided to order another Dell. This lap top arrived in a sealed factory box and booted up without any issues.

I would have given it five stars, but the keyboard is a bit flimsy. It seems to move downwards when I press the keys. The other issue which others have reported, is that the wifi reports lower signal strength at the same location then what my other Dells do. Other than these two issues, this is a nice machine.

Buy Dell Inspiron i15R-1632sLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver) Now

Ordering from Dell was ridiculously complex. Involved returning multiple emails confirming past three living addresses to an incredibly rude customer service rep and having to preemptivley clear charges with financial institution to state purchase was not a fake.

Received product and it flat out stopped working within one week. After 90 minutes with another pissy customer service rep they state it is the operating system that is crap. Too bad they don't provide you the operating system disk with purchase. State they will send me a copy of the disk in the mail. Fail to notify me that I must be present to recieve purchase and they will not even allow you to have the option to pick up from delivery service directly. This is an issue since I work during the day.

Contact company to return piece of garbage and they state it isnt eligible to be returned since they think the product wouldn't be defective if they could just fix it.

Horrible customer service. Avoid at all costs. I should not have purchased a product from a company that clearly has no interest in accountability.

One last note. I purchased the McaFee security package for 3 years. It was not installed. I talked to McaFee customer service and they were able to install right away...but it should have been installed by Dell prior to delivery.

I attempted to buy this as my new laptop, as I work from home and use them regularly but am pretty experienced with them, having owned quite a few over the last 15 years.

It's less than a week later, and the computer has already required a 2-hour call with tech support to correct the horrible wireless reception (which is mentioned in the review by Lexi above) which ended with little help and them telling me it must work on a "different frequency" then the previous laptop and Apple iPod I own which both connect with no problems to my router. Now, this morning, the hard drive started randomly clicking loudly and the entire thing became almost frozen and unusable. According to Google this is ANOTHER known problem with these laptops.

I can't believe a company would take my money and then send me something so defective in response. I feel embarrassed about having mentioned to people that I'd bought a new laptop and now explain when they ask me that I have to return it, and I feel like the company either took advantage of me or attempted to rip me off by sending me this and hoping I would accept it. Furthermore, they have placed me in an awkward situation of having to get rid of this barely functional piece of garbage while I NEED a functioning computer to do my work.

The rest of my feelings about this "product" and the company which sent it to me are the type I couldn't say without resorting to some vicious and inappropriate language, so I will stop myself here. The laptop is getting returned as soon as possible and I will be getting my money back and doing business with another company. And if Dell gives me a single issue about it, then I will take this MUCH further and see to it that they lose more than one customer.

I purchased this computer to serve as a personal/backup machine to my custom built desktop that is running high end specs that take care of most of my personal computer tasks and gaming.

This is a excellent machine for the price. I choose it because I do like Dell's and the fact that it is becoming harder to come by a Windows 7 laptop, which was another big reason for deciding to go with this machine too. There are some real pleasant surprises in this computer that I found.

Just for the record, I only use this laptop for the essentials, meaning I only use it for internet, email, chat, Netflix/youtube and word processing. Anyone that requires capable gaming or other intensive programs should probably up their price range a bit.

Pros

Great clean looking casing and build. Smooth all around, plastic, but feels pretty robust and durable.

Large and responsive touchpad with multi gestures, this is one of the best touchpads I've used on a windows laptop

Keyboard is nice and sturdy and pretty easy to type on

Speakers are very capable

Overall smooth and responsive once the computer is started up and running

Screen is bright and clear and easy to read

Dell's service tag system makes it very easy to retrieve drivers and support off their website

Cons

It's a bit heavy if you plan to travel with it

Lots of preinstalled bloatware slows the machine down when first starting it up, and must be stripped to reach desired performance

Start up is a bit slow even after stripping bloatware, the 5400RPM drive seems unusually slower then most

The fans kick up a bit at times, I am particularly a little sensitive to noise so this may not bother others much as it does me

As you can see, the pros greatly outweigh the cons, and once I configured and customized the laptop to my liking, its great for basic tasks and looks nice. I mostly use this laptop in my bedroom and a little bit around the house, I wouldn't recommend it as a daily traveler, but as a secondary/backup computer, I couldn't go wrong with this choice.

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen Ultrabook (Gray)

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen UltrabookJust opened the box this evening. This is my first Windows 8 PC. This is an awesome pc. It is a perfect fit for someone who loves the uses of a tablet but hates typing on touch screen. It is built very sturdy. It feels just like a laptop until you flip it into a tablet, it is a rather large feeling tablet but props up nice and is very user friendly.

I would recommend this product.

This is one of the coolest tablets/laptops I have seen. I am more than pleased and would recomend it to anyone looking for a very lite laptop or large tablet. At 3 lbs. it is heavier than an ipad or similar tablet, but if the weight isn't an issue then you will love it. Windows 8 and the touch screen are super. Take a look at this tablet if you are thinking about a new laptop or ipad. I did and am very pleased with my decission. By the way the delivery and service from Amazon was super.

I just purchased the Lenovo Yoga 13.3 inch and love it. The screen is terrific with Music Reader for Windows. Yes, there is a little space at the bottom of each sheet music page which I find useful for add'l notes. Once you crop your sheet music, it fits even better. Much better than an IPad. The whole thing fits perfectly in my briefcase and is easy to hold for lap viewing. Very quiet unit. A side benefit is that I no longer need a light on my music stand.

I also love the way the keyboard hinges and folds behind the screen. Much better than the detachable keyboards which are a hassle. I recommend that you also purchase the Lenovo slip keyboard cover which can hold only the keyboard or the entire folded up tablet. The folded up tablet fits perfect on my music rack for both my piano and harp. All the other tablets had detachable or wireless keyboards which felt cumbersome to me. Purchase the screen protector directly from Lenovo for $9.99 which includes shipping. Amazon charges $29 for the same product. It has totally changed the way I play and my practice time is put to much better use.

The only negative is that it's much more expensive than similar tablets with slightly smaller screens. But I wanted a bigger screen and one that would be light weight and very portable.

I've only had it for a week but so far no problems.

I originally purchased Yoga pad worked great for the first 20+ days. Then less than 1 moth old the left hinge failed, preventing the Yoga from being opened.. you could visually see the damage to the dual hinge unit. The hinge appears to be very "plastic-y" in design and I did nothing special to cause it to fail..

I returned the unit for my second Yoga ( since it was not a month old) only to have the second unit have a bad HDD.. The second Yoga's drive sounded like high pitch "buzzing bees." The unit still booted and ran fine, but i returned it for a full refund due to the fact that the HDD was about to fail...

i like the overall design, weight and performance of the unit, but with the 2 major issues I had with 2 units in under 1 month has me waiting for Lenovo to fix all the bugs!!1

P.S. ended up with the Lenovo "twist" S-230U convertible... yes, it is "fatter" and heavier than the Yoga, but after 3 months not a failure yet!! :)

ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 Notebook PC - Black

ASUS G73JH-RBBX05 Notebook PC - BlackSince I am a student, I was looking for a very powerful laptop for a very long time. It had to be a real desktop replacement. First, I was thinking about G60VX-RBBX05 for 650. But it is an old model. Then I found G60JX-RBBX05 for 760 which has newer hardware. Then I found this one. I bought it immediately, because I had looked all gaming laptops, such as Toshiba Qosmio, Dell Alienware, Asus N series, Lenovo Ideapads...Some of them were more powerful than this one, but their price...

Actually, I didn't buy this laptop on amazon, but I bought it on bestbuy for 903 dollars (849+tax). It is also refurbished. The package is simplest laptop, battery and charger. Nothing more and nothing more was needed. It has 500 gb hard drive which is sufficient for me because I have external 1 TB hard drive. 6 gb of ram is more than needed :)

I could say that comparing to other gaming laptops this laptop has the best ratio of performance/money. Really, 903 dollars to almost fastest quad-core processor (820qm, 840qm, 920xm, 940xm, and Sandy Bridge processors are better) and almost fastest Mobility Radeon 5870 (GTX 460M, GTX 480M, GTX 285M, and future Radeon 6970M are better)!

Also, I chose Asus because I trust this company. But other people complain but it's support. I haven't tried to use it yet.

Pros:

1) performance

2) backlight on keyboard. Good to play during nights.

3) big screen (enough for me, 1600x900)

4) two places for drives. You can make a good combination of ssd+hdd.

5) powerful speakers+subwoofer.

6) aggressive design. However, girls, I think, won't like it. (it's not pro, actually, but it's what I like in the laptop)

7) Remarkably silent. Even if I put your hands in front for radiators, it is not hot. The bottom doesn't heat up at all.

I hadn't found cons for me. Nevertheless, I would like to enlist some aspects that you might not like:

1) Battery. Yes, it lasts short, but since the laptop is desktop replacement and gaming laptop, I don't care about this.

2) Set of ports and their arrangement. Because of rear cooling system, there are no ports and they are on sides. This makes mess of cables. Also, set of ports is poor. No DVI, no eSATA, no USB 3.0, no FireWire, no ExpressCard port, no dial-up modem (maybe not important nowadays).

3) Huge charger. Yes, it's huge and heavy, but it's desktop replacement. I don't move it at all.

4) Transportability. The laptop is huge and heavy, but again, it's desktop replacement. I don't move it from my table.

5) No multimedia or additional like quick launch keys. Actually, there are some, such as FN+arrows for media players.

6) No Blu-Ray.

7) No Bluetooth.

8) Small screen resolution. There are other g73jh laptops with 1920x1080 resolution.

9) Touchpad button are tough. But I got used to it for a while and moreover I use external mouse.

So, this is my review. Best laptop I ever had. All games run. For students-gamers it is one of the best deals.

It died on me. Motherboard dead, price for new motherboard $920. I've had it for 6 months. Nothing else to add, there are some better deals anyway.

Ok, the laptop is wonderful, I actually got it for like around $900 after taxes at bestbuy (refurbished). If everything on the laptop was in good shape, the only thing I could possibly complain about is the mouse pad, it drives me nuts, it skips and you need to press down very hard to click. So if you bought this PC brand new, that would be my only complaint.

Now, the refurbished one I bought had several major issues. The guy who did the refurbishing must have been completely careless. CRACKED SUBWOOFER SPEAKER (Sounds terrible!), it came with software problems as well, the computer would say "start-up is preparing your computer for first use" each time you boot it up, so I started hibernating it instead to bypass the problem. What else... Oh yea, several burnt pixels on the screen. So, a cracked speaker, software issues and burnt pixels is what I got. But I did save 3-400 bucks for the risk.

I would say buy it, I doubt this would happen to you, I just lucked out on the guy who refurbished mine :-/

I bought this ASUS G73J excited about its two year GLOBAL warranty and for its great reviews. However, within the first year of buying the laptop, I have had to send it in 2 times for screen repair. I am not talking about bright-dots. I am talking about TOTAL screen misfunction. It is a tempting buy because of its specs, but PLEASE do not buy this computer. For anyone who depends on it for their work, especially if they travel abroad, their global warranty is false advertising. Repairs are only available at certain centers in the US and in other limited countries, making it almost impossible for users who travel outside of those regions to get service. DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND OF COMPUTER. I have had a much worse experience with this brand than with any HP, Toshiba, Mac, Dell or other brand of laptop I have owned.

I brought an ASUS g73 laptop less than a year ago. The laptop failed. I sent it to them for warranty repair and they sent it back with a whole new set of issues (missing screws, the keyboard was now defective, and the video was failing). I sent it back to them again, get it back and right out of the box again a new issue (no network card)! I sent it back to them yet again and they sent it back out to the wrong address! Now, I don't even know if my laptop is working or not yet and on top of it it's 100 miles from where I live. I have called them several times, they would keep apologizing and claim they would fix the issue, and then screw it up yet again. I have reached my limits with dealing with these people! They refuse to simply replace the unit with a new one or just refund my money, they even refuse to let me speak with a manager. I have never met people with this level of incompetence in my life! I can't get anyone at ASUS to actually do anything useful, FedEx won't re-route the package because they only let the shipper do it. So I guess I am just supposed to be out my laptop! (After a lot of screaming I got it Back).

This is the kind of service you can expect from these people. I guess that is why they have over 1000 complaints listed with the BBB over the last 3 years almost all for customer service and tech support issues.

Now, after 4 RMA's I am once again having issues with this laptop! The mouse pad is still not working, which was my original complaint with this machine before the kept returning it to me with more and more issues. I finally had enough of this! I called tech support so I could just get the part and repair this thing at my own expense and sell it so I would never have to deal with ASUS ever again. After waiting on the phone over a half hour at 11:30 at night I get this genius who couldn't even supply me with a part number for their own product! Her suggestion was to look for it myself!

Apple Black Macbook

Apple Black MacbookI purchased this laptop in 2007 and nearly 6 years later it is still running. It has been all over the country with me and a few parts have been replaced, but it keeps on running. One repairman told me it shouldn't be running anymore, but it is! Mac is the BEST!

Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6-Inch Laptop (Midnight Black)

Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 15.6-Inch LaptopI've had this laptop almost a week and I love this computer. Windows 8 was weird at first but I used to it, I stopped all the window tiles from being alive all the time because it bogged down the computer. Windows 8 reminds me alot like Xbox Live because the Windows store is just like it. I've been using this laptop to play The Sims 3 & a few other games and it runs so smoothly, my last Acer laptop always shudders and overheats when playing any game even with all the settings to low. I've been playing the Sims 3 on max settings and I had no problems.

Overall this laptop is great for all you general needs and but I wouldn't buy this laptop for serious gaming like playing Crysis 3.

It is better than my last acer laptop.

Dual graphics are very awesome.

The A10-4600 is also very good for running.

The price is very comfortable for me.

It is not expensive, but it has a really great equipment.

Pros:

Powerful machine that can run most modern games on medium to high settings.

Runs a majority of programs effortlessly.

AMD Dual Graphics settings allow you to set how much power you want running to certain programs [Adobe, video games, converters, you name it] or which programs you want to run in power saving settings. A great way to avoid future hassles with programs you use all the time.

Video quality is superb in combination with the monitor and the dual graphics card.

Sound quality is beautiful, the speakers are flawless.

Cons:

After arriving late, opened up the package and began uninstalling Windows 8.

[you must totally format the hard drive and leave it unallocated in order to install Windows 7]

Took a few hours to get all the drivers back on it, and after some searching, managed to get the graphics card fully functioning.

[Install AMD Catalyst 12.8, restart, 12.9 embedded, restart, and AMD CAP 3, restart, followed by 13.1 to avoid BSOD]

Should you choose to keep Windows 8, that would cut out some work. But that's up to you.

Runs hot, look into a good cooling pad.

This is a great laptop especially for the money! I'm not a big fan of windows 8, but I'm starting to get used to it. Just make sure all of the graphics drivers are up to date and you can download a couple of different programs to give you back the start menu (Start8) being one of those programs. I have tried a few games out on this (Crysis 2, Farcry 3, all Valve source games) and it runs them all very well at almost all high settings. The build quality is very good to and is a very attractive laptop...very happy at the moment!

Pros: Practically Everything... The hardware is superb. Apps load with a snap. Speakers blew my mind for a laptop, my fathers computer has a beats audio setup with woofer in it(yes a woofer) and this still blew it away bass and all. The screen is amazing. The USB 3.0 is Amazing. It runs everygame Ive threw at it in not just high but MAXIMUM graphics (These games include: The Sims 3 with Supernatural Expansion, APB: Reloaded, Need For Speed World, Star Trek Online, Champions Online, Vindictus, Microvolts, RaiderZ, DC Universe, Burnout Paradise, Lego Star Wars III: Clone wars, NBA 2k13, Blacklight Retribution, Rusty Hearts, and tons of console Emulaters), boot up time aint to bad either.

Cons: Oh god dont listen to these microsoft lovin windows 8 fans. The mouse gestures will have you twisted in a minute. I turned them all off and it wasnt to bad. learning how to navigate windows 8 isnt to hard but the OS in general is a pain. This laptop would benefit from a 2x4 GB ram set up for 8 gig total and a 7200 rpm hard drive if you have the patience, but its not to mandatory. Runs HOT when playin games (Laptop fan helps). Havent tried it yet but might be a good Idea to Downgrade to Windows 7.

I been an Acer fan forever, they never let me down. I send in for warrenty repair they fix stuf that I never mentioned like keyboards etc. These products always impress me and dont let anyone tell you they are not durable, I have a Aspire 5732z that has made 2 falls from the kitchen counter, an asphault impact in the driveway with no bag, and bumped off the couch. Yes its taken dings, lost the disk drawer cover, and even broke the screen hing covers but to this day its still a good reliable laptop. If any one asks my opinion, Acer's are the best Decently priced laptops out there.

I have only had this laptop for about 3 months and the left corner of the lid/screen is breaking apart. The hinge does not seem to work properly which caused the cheap material to crack. I talked to technical support and their supervisor. They basically accused me of damaging the laptop myself and even though it is still under warranty, I don't have the accidental insurance that it's not their problem. After insisting that it was not caused by an accident, they said I could sent them the laptop where they can inspect it and I would be without it for 7 to 9 days. I told them I could not be without it that long, and could fix it myself. I was told it is too complicated to let the customer do the repair. They should not engineer something to be so difficult, and if a customer feels confident enough to do the repair, they should have that choice. I guess I will have to deal with not being able to close the lid.

HP Pavilion dv6-3163nr Entertainment Notebook PC - Silver

HP Pavilion dv6-3163nr Entertainment Notebook PC - SilverIn short, no problems at all after 4 days of intense Windows updating (including Win7 SP1), loading many applications and transferring tens of gigabytes of photos, music and other files. I've had no blue screens at all, and I'm finally getting the trackpad adjusted to the way I want it. Overall, the laptop works as advertised, but I can't say that it really exceeds my expectations, so I give it 4 stars.

When my trusty old home laptop died suddenly a few days ago, I needed to quickly find a replacement, so my choices were limited to a laptop I could either buy locally or have shipped to me within a day or two at the most. My chief criteria were a graphics card tested with Photoshop CS5 and a processor that would handle Photoshop and Lightroom for a few years to come, such as an Intel i5 or i7. Also, I didn't want to spend more than $1000 for a moderately powerful, minimum frills laptop.

Pros:

Nice display, although very narrow range of view for consistent colors. That is, tilting the screen quickly makes colors lighter or darker.

Has worked flawlessly with no crashes, hangs or bluescreens in 4 days of intense updating.

It is plenty fast enough for me.

There are lots of HP apps loaded, but they are not the obnoxious trialware loaded by many manufacturers. On the other hand, the HP MediaSmart software is largely superfluous if you have iTunes.

It does have eSATA and HDMI ports as well as a fingerprint reader.

Cons:

The color is described as silver, but it is actually what is usually called "champagne", or even a little darker, almost a light copper color. Also, the cover and palmrest are engraved with a horizontal pattern which I find to be unnecessary but not objectionable.

As reviewers of other HP laptops have noted, the wide trackpad can be prone to spurious movements from contact with one's palms. However, those can be greatly reduced by various settings of the Synaptics device driver. Plus, the trackpad can be turned off and on with a double tap to one of the corners. However, it is odd that this is the first laptop of several that I've owned where the trackpad is an issue. I was worried at first, but am OK with it now.

Documentation is the worst of any PC I've ever bought. All that is included is a quick start brochure which has a reference to some documentation loaded on the laptop, but I guess that's the new normal these days.

No software disks are included, but a reinstallation DVD can be created.

Neutral:

The Altec speakers are nothing special and sound like what you would expect from speakers that have a quarter inch by half inch metallic opening. I would have greatly preferred an S/PDIF optical output, which are quite cheap these days, to these "premium" speakers.

That's it for now. I'll update this review after I have a week or two of further experience.

UPDATE: After almost 4 weeks with this laptop, there are no major revelations. It works well with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, Word and Excel, and web browsing with Google Chrome. I still have not had a single bluescreen or other system hang or crash. My only reservation continues to be the trackpad which I have found to require a bit of conscious thought to avoid spurious pointer movements. As I've said, that is a first for me, and I've used laptops since 1986 (that one had two floppy drives and no hard disk--my boss was cheap). So I do not recommend this laptop for anyone who plans to do a lot of writing on it, such as a college student. For other purposes, it will probably do fine.

I had to send back the first one I got because the harddrive was having issues: it would blue screen, load things slow, random hangs, the whole nine yards. To top that one off, some of the siding/panel wasn't um... "put together" properly, so it had an overall look of "broken". I send it back, and get a new laptop within two days which astonishes me. New laptop works 100x better than the last.

Pros:

It's a beast. Whatever you want to run, it'll run it. It's more than capable of running CAD programs or video editing software. Runs modern games at some pretty modest "medium" settings too.

Screen is nice and big, with a nice look to it. The max brightness is almost BLINDING though, but I find that a good thing.

Keyboard is spacious. Some keys can be a hassle to press down sometimes, but you break it in.

USB ports on BOTH sides, with an eSATA/USB combo as well.

Slick CD drive.

Enjoyable speakers. Get a little distorted at higher volumes, but that was expected.

Looks cool. Always a pro.

Cons:

Battery life. For heavens sake, BATTERY LIFE. You'll have to downgrade ALL your performance for battery life, and even then you can get maybe an hour and a half of constant run time.

Track pad. Pick one left click or right click. You can only do one at a time. It's a HUGE track pad too. Easily avoidable with a mouse though.

"Function Keys" are annoying. I'm not sure if I can switch it or not, but I dislike the fact that I have to hold down "fn" to press F1-F12.

Gets hot. Real hot. Invest in a laptop cooler or laptop pad if you plan on doing load-intense programs or gaming. With heat brings TERRIBLE performance problems.

Weight. I'm going to have back problems the more I need to bring this to school with all my books/notebooks for the day.

Sometimes it fails to POST. Never a good thing. Not sure why it does that, but it did it with the laptop I sent back too, so I hope it's nothing as serious as that. Probably a motherboard that doesn't do too well in general, so keep an eye out for that.

For an everyday school laptop, this doesn't really do too well. As a mobile work station, this works PERFECTLY. If you're buying this for legitimate work programs and school programs or even the occasional game, go for it. If you're not into that stuff and need something for just writing and browsing, you may want to steer away.

Since day one the graphic card (ATI Radeon 5650) keeps on crashing. I can't watch an complete movie without getting a black screen that requieres restarting the system if I still want to see the movie.

Appart form that, the PC overheats to a point where it is almost impossible to touch the area around the cooler with your hand. You can buy something better for this money (uness you are looking for a new oven).

I definitely recommend not buying.

ASUS Q500A-BHI7T05 15.6" Touch Screen Laptop 8GB Memory 750GB HD - Black

ASUS Q500A-BHI7T05 15.6' Touch Screen Laptop 8GB Memory 750GB HD - BlackI love this laptop for all the reasons so many other reviewers have indicated, such as its considerable power and its incredibly beautiful, resolute screen. Thankfully, my unit seems to have mostly escaped the issue where the upper left corner of the screen comes unglued (knock wood!) I've got a very minimal protrusion there, but it doesn't seem to be worsening over time so far, and it's a minor enough issue that I'd probably just glue it if it got worse. Unfortunately, I was plagued by the maddening "touch screen stops working when the lid is closed and doesn't work until next cold-boot" issue, and after some time, the touch screen stopped working entirely, save for occasional very erratic points where it would spring back to life. I thought for sure it was a hardware problem and was tearing my hair out wondering whether to get another one or just jump ship to another model, which would have been a terrible shame as I absolutely love this machine. But I'm a stubborn SOB, and had a feeling there might be something more going on than meets the eye. After way too many hours spent trying everything imaginable, I finally stumbled upon the solutions to both forms of touch screen failure the failure upon closing the lid and more semi-permanent failure are both caused by simple, stupid bugs arising from the particular combination of Asus' touch screen interface design and Windows' USB power management algorithms. If your touch screen is going out when you close the lid, you probably have set the computer's power settings so that it "does nothing" upon closing the lid. Changing this setting to "sleep" after first restoring touch functionality, of course fixed the problem instantly and permanently for me, though this will probably only work if you first go into the Windows Device Manager and find the touch screen device it's a "USB Input Device" under the "Human Interface Devices" heading right click and go to "Properties", go to the "Power Management" tab, and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". The more permanent-seeming touch screen failure was instantly resolved by disabling the "USB Selective Suspend" feature in the power settings and cold-booting. So if you're having touch screen problems, chances are excellent that your touch screen is actually fine, and all you need to do is change all the settings as I've indicated here, cold-booting first if necessary to bring the touch screen back to life before you start. Hope this helps someone!

I've had this computer for a couple weeks but having experience with laptops, this one is very well built and is exceptional in every way...mostly anyway.

Not sure what the one star is complaining about because this is backwards compatible and works fine with my router which is not "N". Also, for its size, it is NOT heavy. There are many more that are worse that are not near as good. Battery life also is not bad but not the best. I get four hours of regular use. A little less if using heavy. It does have BT 4.0 which has been fast for me. The 8gb ram and I7 make this smokin' and when SSD's get cheaper, i plan on putting one in! This is not an ultrabook so the one star should go find a machine that is tiny and not serviceable!

Anyway, great screen with touch! I have not had any issues like some have reported. There are a couple things that some may not like. One is light bleed under keys on backlit keyboard and two, finger prints. It is a magnet for them. Also, not sure what they were thinking about when they made the power supply...

Outside of those few minor things, this machine is smokin' fast and worth every penny! It isnt a gamers machine but plays most games very well. But then again, i'm not a true gamer and don't care to be! If you are, you would be better suited to find a dedicated graphics machine.

All in all, i love it and if you are a daily user doing some office work and watching a movie or listening to music, this is the machine for you!

Thanks!

This laptop has every feature I wanted and then some. I am very pleased with it and have had no problems at all since purchasing almost two months ago. It is fast, has a good battery life, I LOVE the keyboard and the screen size and resolution. The only thing I would have liked would be more than one USB 2.0 port, but I bought a 4-port hub for less than $10, so that solved that. I have not seen another laptop of this caliber for less money, and I believe it is well worth the price.

This is a very nice laptop for the price. Most other laptops with all the same features are well over 1000.00. I purchased mine at Bestbuy for 849.00. The only thing so far that I do not like about it is the speakers which are on the bottom of the laptop. why would anyone put speakers on the bottom of the laptop. I use a headset for my sound and that makes it much better.

Very fast and responsive. The touch screen is very nice and as far a finger prints all touch screens get finger prints so I do not feel that is a major concern.

Would definitely recommend this to my closest friend which I actually did.

You won't be disappointed if you buy this laptop.

Lenovo ThinkPad X230 12.5" Notebook PC - 2320-A9U

Lenovo ThinkPad X230 12.5' Notebook PC - 2320-A9UI have been using the legendary ThinkPad since the 2005. I had the T43 and then the X301. The X230 is different. The keypad is very good in typing and the buttons give quite a nice feel and sound when tying. Add to this the weight. It is quite light and easy to carry around which helps a lot in doing business away from office. Finnaly the processing power is amazing specially when compared with the light weight. In summary, the power of T43 I had before was great but it was not a portable laptop. The portability of the X301 was great but it went slow soon after I used it. The X230 made the perfect balance.

TIP. Get an extra RAM at least another 4 or 8 GB.

HP G62-435DX Laptop Notebook / AMD Turion II Processor / 15.6" LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 3

HP G62-435DX Laptop Notebook / AMD Turion II Processor / 15.6' LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 320GB Hard Drive / Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support / Built-in webcam with microphone - Biscottithis is a very good computer for the price, it certainly has all the bells and whistles and speed, but it has it's less then perfect features as well. the keyboard for oneit seems cheap and frail as if the keys may fly off any time. and the roller/mouse pad is hidden making it a bit difficult to use, it is also centered on pc instead of offset to the left as many laptops position their pads. lastly the right and left keys are hard to press, instead of a mere flick on them you must give a firm, centered push to activate them.

one last thing, this laptop is a 64 bit system, running windows 7, so before you use it. dont forget to make recovery discs (5), a windows repair disc (1), and (7) system image backup discs. none of these will help if the keys fall off but will restore the programs to as new in the event of failure from virus, trojans or whatever.

I've been using this computer for almost 2 years without issue (other than an itunes Win 7 conflict) and I wouldn't hesitate to by this or any other HP product again. Granted, all I use it for is browsing the "computer interweb" and watching downloaded movies, but, for the money, this is a great laptop. The speakers aren't bad either compared to my previous Toshiba laptop.

i have this model laptop and i've had for about 6 months. the battery DOES NOT last 4-4.5 hours, you have to replace it with an 8 cell battery. as for performance though, it's amazing. i can game and run 13 other programs with the gaming client that draws 3/4 of the processor attention. it DOES have a recovery partition in of which you immediately lose 20 gigs right there unless you create the recovery discs. overall, the only things i dislike is that i had to buy an 8 cell battery and the fact that it does get hot after gaming.

I have the G62-457dx which now seems to be a limited edition model, because it is no longer available through Amazon or any other well-known sites. HP is probably the only company who still has my model available for purchase. Anyway, I don't see how anyone can really go wrong with a machine that is this powerful. Once again, I am still very impressed with the number of different tasks that I can run all at one time without slowing down, overheating, crashing etc. Many complain about the keyboard, but the only problem that I have with it is the number keys. I can run up to 4 or more downloads and 8 browser tabs and other services and applications without problems, and this is incredible. 4GB RAM, incredible. The dual core processor gives maximum performance speed and quality. It even works as a great gaming machine. Not the best, but I can run some modern day video games with graphics that rival PS3 and Xbox without much problems. However, there's a few games that get a little sluggish but are still very playable without causing interference. This strongly determines what kind of processor, video card, RAM capacity and other features that you have enabled. Also, if you want a perfect gaming machine it would be better and more affordable to just buy a console. As for my computer, I can run any and every task needed and I'm satisfied with that. Not much bloatware installed, built in factory reset option, Lightscribe drive, web cam, SD card slot, HDMI port, CD/DVD burner, 3USB ports, scratch resistant surface and so much more. It runs like a champion. Once again, I don't see how anyone could not be satisfied with having a computer that performs this good. Great for students, business owners and home users who need to multitask everyday. I've had my computer for a couple of months now, and there's been no major problems or issues with it yet. Even when I overwork this computer, the CPU usage barely ever reaches 100%; and if it does it's only for a couple of seconds. And the RAM usage barely ever goes over 50% usage but can be reduced by an optimization program. This computer has not failed me yet, and I'm not expecting it to. This is truly one of the best computers on the market right now, and it will be worth every dollar that you pay for it. Personally, I'd advise ordering a G Series HP laptop from Best Buy over Amazon if you'd wish to save about $100-$150. The only real difference between this computer and mine is the brand of processor, and both have about the same capabilities.

To those who posted before me:

You keep saying that the keys are cheap or not correctly placed, how? It's a standard QWERTY, and my typing is not affected at all by a QWERTY keyboard. As far as keys flying off, that's a total lie. If that's happening to your computer, then I don't know where you purchased it from or how many flights of stairs you dropped it down. Okay, did you buy your computer for the keys or for what it could really do? The keys are just fine. Also, the touchpad being in the center happens to be just right for people who type the correct way ASDF-JKL;. It's there between your thumbs and conveniently out of your way when you're typing, so I'm absolutely fine with it being centered. Even in the event that it did interfere with your typing, you have the touchpad lock sensor in the upper left corner of the touchpad that can be activated by a double click. Unless you have gigantic hands, I don't see how the placement of the touchpad can even be considered a legitimate complaint. Also, if it bothers you that bad you shouldn't have paid for it. I'm just saying that if you're gonna post a review, at least put some truth into it and have proper knowledge of computers. Always remember that a computer will react to what you choose to do with it. If you guys have been downloading and installing stuff that you shouldn't have, hey, you know? That's your problem.
