Toshiba 14.0" Satellite L515-S4008 Intel T4400 Laptop 3GB Notebook 250GB Computer Windows 7 - TOSS4

Toshiba 14.0' Satellite L515-S4008 Intel T4400 Laptop 3GB Notebook 250GB Computer Windows 7 - TOSS4008I dont understand why would anyone spend $500 on a netbook when you can get one of these. It plays HD media smoothly, runs windows 7 professional and office 2010. Easily upgrades to a core 2 duo or core 2 quad and 8g ram for awesome game play. As it is, it runs heavily flash websites smoothly and blu ray files from my sony hd cam without hiccups. so far my only complaint is the lack of front facing camera.

Sony VAIO VPC-Z213GX/B 13.1-Inch Laptop (Black)

Sony VAIO VPC-Z213GX/B 13.1-Inch LaptopI have owned this machine for about a month now. It is very fast with the best screen I have ever seen. The design is very simple and almost zen like with an understated poly carbon coating. The machine is made in Japan which is unusual nowadays. In my opinion this is a piece of art that also functions extremely well.

it is above my expectations , every thing is amaaaaaazing. the seperate deck for cd and hd show is very practical. i like it very much. i recommend it to every one.

Buy Sony VAIO VPC-Z213GX/B 13.1-Inch Laptop (Black) Now

I purchased a vaio vpc-z computer two years ago. The first machine would spontaneously reboot every 2-3 weeks. The first onsite repair left the machine unable to start. Over the next year the machine was returned 4-5 times. Turnaround was very slow taking weeks to months. Sony finally bought the computer back. Foolishly I bought another. It has functioned better but the screen developed black lines several months ago. I was traveling and wasn't in a location for onsite repair. In view of the weeks required for a factory mail in repair, I called and asked if onsite repair would be ok in a month... which was shortly into the extended warranty. I was assured onsite would be acceptable. Two days ago Sony set up an onsite repair. Today Sony calls and adamantly refuses onsite repair. Not only is tech support incompetant but now it appears that one cannot rely on their committment. Be very careful with any verbal promise. The computer is OK but Sony service is simply nothing short of disaster.

HP 2000-2b16NR 15.6" LED Notebook (4GB Ram, 500b hard drive, Windows 8, HDMI, WebCam)

HP 2000-2b16NR 15.6' LED NotebookBeing a loyal HP consumer for more than a decade, I feel that their 2000-2B16NR model fell short from impressing me in terms of performance. In a one-week period, I have had several blue screens of death after performing critical Windows Updates. Its AMD E1-1200 1.4GHz CPU can barely handle two Firefox Tabs (websites like Facebook, Youtube, and Pandora perform poorly) and the Task Manager without hitting the 100% speed limit. According to the store where I purchased this device, Fingerhut, claimed that the laptop had two RAM sticks of 2GB each. Since I am a PC geek, I discovered that it only had one 4GB RAM @ DDR3/PC3-12800 stick--which explains why the CPU struggles to handle more than one task online.

UPDATE (5-5-2013): I can't even watch online HD videos effectively even with high-speed, 15-mbps internet. What's the point of having an HD video card?

Recommendation to HP and those who own this model: to enhance your laptop's performance, get a bang for the buck, and if you're running on 64-bit Windows 8, UPGRADE YOUR RAM (if you have 4GB, boost it to 8GB).

Great Computer and reasonable price.

The HD is large enough and 4g ram is really good. CPU works well. You cannot use it as a game device of course, but for daily use, it is really great.

Buy HP 2000-2b16NR 15.6" LED Notebook (4GB Ram, 500b hard drive, Windows 8, HDMI, WebCam) Now

I bought this laptop from a different seller than amazon. This is my first HP computer I normally buy Toshiba. I wasn't too impressed with the speed, so increase the RAM to 8gb and put in a WD scorpio black hard drive. After that i could tell a big difference in the performance. Now its pretty good for how cheap it was. Im not a big fan of Windows 8. I liked 7 a lot better. But Windows 8 isn't that hard to navigate, its just a big learning curve. All in all the computer is good for everyday use and watching movies. I wouldn't use this for gaming if thats your sort of thing.

I have now had this Notebook for about four months and it is pretty awful. I have had a lot of laptops through work and for personal use and this is by far the worst one I have ever had. Many, many blue screens of death, restarts, etc. I had to stop using Mozilla Firefox as my browser because this device could not seem to handle it it would just shut down. Typing is almost impossible because the cursor just seems to move and jump around. You'll be typing a sentence and then it will suddently just start inserting your words somewhere else in the document, e-mail, etc. Very frustrating. Now, the screen has gone completely blank. I can tell that everything is on, but, I can't see anything. I've tried connecting to an external monitor and I only get a quick flash of the screen before it too goes blank. I do not recommend this laptop at all. I have told my kids that if they can somehow fix it, they can have it. I will go buy something else; and, not an HP after this experience.

Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 16-Inch Laptop (Fusion X2 Finish in Slate)

Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 16-Inch LaptopI purchased the Toshia A665-S6094 from Best Buy in late Sept 2010. In mid March the laptop had to go back to Toshiba because the whole right side of the keyboard stopped working and the touchpad would stop working correctly after a few hours of use. They replaced the keyboard, but did nothing with the touchpad. A couple weeks later certain keys would stop working intermittently but after a few weeks they all started functioning properly again however the touchpad was still messed up to the point that I had to plug in and use a mouse. 13 months after buying this laptop (less than 1 month out of warranty), the hard drive failed completely so I had to have it replaced. Found out that the CD drive is also failing. There is no reason this laptop should be failing so miserably after just 13 months. Toshiba = FAIL!

Update 12/13/11 Another month has passed and now the display driver is failing and the screen often goes black. This computer is just over 14 months old but acts as if it is 10 years old.

I purchased this laptop in November 2010. It was working great till October (11 months in)still under warranty. I started getting errors that the hard drive was failing (both Toshiba's utility and windows utility). I contacted Toshiba, and the only options were I could send them the whole laptop, and they would put in a hard drive and send it back (optimal time frame for them was 10 business days) and would not transfer any of my data. Or I could go to an authorized service provider and have them change out the hard drive and I would have to pay for the hard drive (what is the difference here versus just walking in off the street?). In either case the warranty would only be active till November. I offered to send them the hard drive so they could verify it was bad and send another they responded that they needed the whole computer. The laptop is fine, but due to incredibly poor customer service I would recommend buying another computer unless this is a secondary computer and you do not need it for anything important.

Buy Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 16-Inch Laptop (Fusion X2 Finish in Slate) Now

Just an FYI I purchased this laptop at a brick-and-mortar retail outlet and not Amazon.com.

I had a few key "wants" when I bought my next computer. I wanted:

1) A computer that would allow me to move my entire PC around the house easily -> laptop with 802.11 a/g/n wireless CHECK

2) Minimum i3 processor -> it has an Intel i7 Q740 quad-core processor @ 1.73GHz CHECK

3) Minimum 2GB RAM -> 4GB installed CHECK

4) Minimum 250GB hard drive -> 620GB hard drive installed CHECK

5) Minimum 720p display resolution -> CHECK

6) Good dedicated memory for video -> it has an NVIDIA GeForce 310M 512MB card with available 2270MB shared CHECK

7) A full keyboard with numeric keypad -> CHECK

8) A backlit keyboard -> NO (but hey that's my compromise for everything else I got) =)

The Windows Experience Index ratings(Windows 7 scores on this laptop) scale is 1.0-7.9:

Processor = 7.1

Memory = 5.9

Graphics = 4.9

Gaming Graphics = 6.0

Primary Hard Disk = 5.9

I bought this laptop in January 2011. It was a replacement for my 8 year old Pentium 4 desktop. I have run out of options to upgrade it and I felt it was time for a new PC. We all deserve that once in a while right? :) In that respect I am not disappointed and would personally have given it 5 stars. This laptop was a very good way to break into the i7 family of processors. There were quite a few i5 laptops that were smaller with a higher price at the time. It has no trouble running World of Warcraft on highest settings and will run StarCraft 2 but only at medium settings at best. That's the most I ask of it right now anyway. The Satellite feels very well constructed and not like a toy that will fall apart.

The laptop heats up very quickly when playing games but it has never shut down or even stuttered. However I would recommend a laptop cooler(like any other laptop). I have had a Zalman ZM-NC1500 cooler for a previous laptop and I put that under it. Keeps the operating temperature down very well.

A nice bonus I didn't even consider until I brought it home is the Harman-Kardon integrated speakers. They sound VERY nice and only crack under extreme duress(heavy bass at high volumes). I was amazed the first time I played a CD through them.

The 620GB hard drive is a very nice storage solution after being used to managing everything under a 160GB HDD for the last 8 years. The laptop has a DVD burner that also has CD-RW capabilities.

3 USB ports make it easy to access outside peripherals like USB sticks and game controllers. The placement of the USB ports is questionable though. I use a USB mouse and the ports are all at the front of the system on the left side(1) and right side(2) so when I plug it in the receiver sticks out right at the base of the unit.

There's a feature I rarely use but should mention the Satellite is equipped with 4G connectivity. All you need is a data plan with a carrier and it's ready to go. Nice thing about this is the laptop can also be used as a hub for tethering devices. I have used my iPad2 tethered to my laptop and it works great.

The biggest flaw is one that means the least to me personally BUT it is also what makes a laptop a laptop the battery. I have never gotten more than 1 1/2 hours of use out of it whether it is sitting idle or playing online. I don't understand why but these days a battery should get almost 3 hours if not more. Seems the industry standard is just under 3 hours. I don't know what Toshiba did to this laptop but it seems to be built with the most "un-green" components it can possibly have. Since I use a 2nd adapter in the living room it doesn't affect me much at all but to be a fair review I have to include this information and drop a star off the rating.

I have been exceptionally happy with my Toshiba Satellite A665-s6094 laptop since purchase and I expect to get years of service out of it. Unless battery life is a major consideration I would definitely recommend this to others.

Acer 13.3" Laptop 4GB 500GB + 20GB SSD | S3-391-6448

Acer 13.3' Laptop 4GB 500GB + 20GB SSD | S3-391-6448First off, I bought this laptop brand new on ebay for about $400.

Now on to the laptop itself. I wasn't expecting much except for an ultrathin laptop. I was actually quite impressed when I first booted it up. Before this laptop I had any extremely bulk HP Probook 4436s with extended battery that was a pain to take around college. It had 8 GB of ram but suddenly, after booting one day, only recognized 4. That laptop died for reason I don't know why, but anyways back to this review.

Acer didn't cut any corners with this sleek laptop. It has a nice sleek brushed aluminum look and very minimal plastic. This ultrabook is so sleek that I can carry in my backback and barley notice it as my textbooks sometimes weigh even more then this. The performance of the core i3 1.5GHz is good for the needs of me, a college student. I can do web surfing with multiple browser windows/tabs open at a time and still have minimal lag. The 4GB on memory is soldered onto the board so it is NOT upgradeable if that is what you are looking for. It is speedy enough to do work on Libre office. Boot times are fast, but the sleep wake time is a little longer then what they state. It is more around 2 seconds but still not bad as my old laptop would take 15+.

The keyboard is extremely nice to type on. It is very quite and when I press a key I don't have problems with it not registering. I am a touch typer so I am more gentle then others when typing. My old HP would have problems with registering a key click and it would bug the crap out of me as I had to constantly go back and fix "lok" and "shool" from my writing. This is not a problem present in this Acer.

There is very minimal heat when this computer is doing basic tasks like word processing and surfing. It does get a little hot, I would say around 90-100 F but I don't know exactly. The fan is quite and even when it does turn on it is blaring loud like other laptops can sometimes get. If doing an intensive task it will get louder but nothing that isn't bearable.

The screen is altogether great for the price. It is not full HD like other screens but then again you aren't paying an extra $100 either. Viewing angles from looking from the top are bad. If viewing from the side or bottom it mostly gets dim and glare is more noticeable. As there isn't a anit-glare coating that I can see of. Colors are vivid on medium to high brightness.

The charger that is lightweight and doesn't feel like you are lugging around a giant brick. Also, it is somewhat small and fits nicely into a bag. Can't really say much more about that since I am not a electrician.

Had it for about two weeks and am so far impressed with this slim, speedy little beast. Might write another review after I get some more real world data.

very nice and good looking laptop...... but the only thing that is annoying me is having no cd rom drive on it.

Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 14-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Dark Chocolate)

Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 14-Inch Touchscreen LaptopWould have given this computer 5 stars but I had to send my first one back because of WiFi issues. It seems there is a know WiFi issue. I don't know if it's affecting all brands of computers with the Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 adapter or just Lenovo. After reading other reviews on Lenovo computers I was worried that I would have the same issue as I had with the first Z400 Touch. The 2nd arrived yesterday and it is working perfectly. The hardest part of the setup was finding an unused email address for hotmail which you need for the Win8 Store, alot like a Gmail account for Android. I have a model only sold online from the Lenovo store with the only difference is that mine has 8 Gigs of RAM and a 1600X900 Display. This unit is is super fast with all the power I need. The processor is a full power I5 not like most laptops that sacrifice processing speed to extend battery life by using low voltage processors. The unit is well built and has a solid feel. There is some flex in the keyboard but from my experience every chicklet style keyboard I've used has about the same amount of flex. My guess would be to cut down on the thickness of the unit something had to give but typing is not an issue. I read some reviews where people feel the trackpad is touchy and feels "cheap", whatever that means, which I have to disagree to both. I am very happy with the computer since I got the replacement.

Another downside is it is a sealed unit which is becoming very common with the thinner notebooks and ultrabooks so I didn't take a star away for that. This means that computer has to be taken in to a service center to have the battery replaced.

Another negative and I mean a big negative is dealing with Lenovo Customer DisService, which you will have to do if you buy from their online store. From ship dates being changed 4 times in 4 days to being transferred from person to person who couldn't help you only to escalate it to someone who wouldn't call you back as promised. If you do have a WiFi issue where the adapter doesn't see a network or a very weak network and has connection issues return the computer for replacement. It is a hardware issue not software. Don't waste your time with Tech Support they can't fix it. You'll just get frustrated and have to return it anyway. It took me about 20 hours on the phone with Lenovo until I got a great rep who took charge of my problem and I had my replacement to me in 3 business days instead of the weeks others were telling me. Buy it from Amazon who does have excellent customer service, shameless plug, and deal with a great company. STAY AWAY FROM THE ONLINE STORE.

All in all it's a great computer if you don't have to deal with Lenovo Customer DisService.

I bought this product off of the manufacturer's website(they had a sale for it) and I love it. I needed a new, everyday laptop and so far this is perfect. It is fast, the touch screen is really cool, and it is easy to use. It comes with Windows 8, which I know a lot of people don't like, but it can actually make things really easy once you get used to it. I do have a few issues with the product, but none of them are deal breakers:

1. Outer case easily picks up finger prints, and requires a solution to get rid of them(I used a cloth and hand sanitizer, which you can use for the touchscreen, too)

2. Keyboard is kind of awkward for me. I have small hands and I still end up typing on the wrong row of keys randomly. My last laptop was a behemoth and had a keyboard to match it. I will just have to get used to it.

3. The keyboard kind of bows in when I type, which is strange.

4. The key you can use to close programs is between the refresh and increase volume buttons--which is annoying.

5. The case, in my opinion, doesn't look "dark chocolate" at all. It just looks plain black. Maybe I need to get it in the sunlight or look at dark chocolate again?

Overall, I love this laptop and am very happy with the buy. We will see if this continues to be the case in the coming years.

I was unable to move but a few feet away with laptop without losing internet connection due to a weak wireless signal. Trouble is not with my router as I can use my Acer laptop outside of my house and still have a strong signal same with with my iPad and cell phones. Called Levono and they were unable to help. So I will be returning.

I have since seen other complaints on the Levono's forums in regards to networking issues. Too bad, I really liked this laptop.

MSI Computer Corp. Notebook GT70 0NE-446US;9S7-176212-446 17.3-Inch Laptop

MSI Computer Corp. Notebook GT70 0NE-446US;9S7-176212-446 17.3-Inch LaptopI received a few week ago and here are my thoughts.

Overall I'm very happy with it.

It is as powerful as I would have hoped. I can play far cry 3, Hitman Absolution, Max Payne 3 etc (All quite graphically intense games) at ultra spec and it doesn't skip a beat.

Thanks to the RAID 0 SSD's it boots up to the log in screen in 6 secs (!) and all programs will boot up almost instantly.

The battery life is actually quite impressive. 4 hours of game time while on a plane, which is pretty impressive considering.

It has plenty of ports. 3 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.0. It even has all the plugs required to run a surround sound system directly from the laptop.

It's pretty light for what it is I think. It's pretty bulky, don't get me wrong. But I can still put this in my laptop rucksack and travel with it comfortably. I had read that the power brick was huge. Maybe they have changed it recently, maybe. I was lead to believe it was the size of a house brick. It's not. Don't get me wrong, it's bigger than normal. But's totally manageable.

When I get home I can put the laptop under the TV, plug it into everything and leave it there. Control of it done via the built in bluetooth.

The bad things are

1)It doesn't sometimes feel a bit flimsy. Nothing has broken, but it just doesn't feel as solid as I would like (I travel a lot and take this with me)

2)Windows 8. Windows is annoying to get used to. But I suppose it's a bullet we're all going to have to bite at some point. When I plugged in my wireless Microsoft mouse. It installed some software for it. At which point my touch pad isn't working anymore (And my keyboard temporarily for some reason, (That was scary :/ )).

I've tried to re-install the touch pad drivers that came with the laptop, but It still won't work.

It's not a major issue because I just use the wireless mouse, but it's still annoying.

I'm 99% sure that this is a windows 8 problem and the touch pad itself is fine.

I (Touch wood) haven't had a problem with the laptop itself so far, and I am very pleased with it. But bare in mind that the MSI customer service is rumored to be really bad. So keep that in mind.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.

I got my MSI computer in today, I have to say it is an amazing PC. So far i have installed WOW, SCII, LOL and all run fine with graphics turned all the way up! It is a beast of a laptop does not feel like you will break it by mistake! The keyboard rocks! Only negative about it is WINDOWS 8! Hate windows 8. For the price this is an awesome product!

Generally speaking an excellent desktop replacement for work that will run current games. MSI appears to cut less corners than its competitors when it comes to quality components; however, it comes at a slight price increase. In particular, the cooling is far better than advertised.

Only real complaint other than bloatware is the left control key which fell off immediately upon first use and took me days to find a way to reattach (although somewhat imperfectly) and continues to feel fragile.

I needed a new laptop to take the place of my aging Apple Mac Airbook. Sure there is a major size difference, but I have been very pleased with the performance. Intense games, large data sets, etc. are no problem for this monster! Yes. You do have to pay a little more for it, but this laptop is definitely worth the money!

I like this computer and would buy it again. A tad heavier than I thought it would be. I was buying it in the hope that I would see 400 FPS in Minecraft. There are some fantastic youtubers (such as PaulSoaresJr) who do excellent tutorials on Minecraft and get amazing FPS with their high end rigs. For example, the aforementioned Paul has a $2K 2011 home built desktop on which he achieves an amazing 400 FPS (WTG Paul!). I figured that a more expensive 2013 laptop should perform similarly to a 2011 desktop. I was wrong. I've built a bunch of desktops in my youth and I guess I should have gone that route this time. But I wanted something to play computer games with while laying in bed.

Thanks for reading! :)

HP 15.6" Pavilion dv6-3025dx Entertainment 4GB Laptop 500GB Notebook PC

HP 15.6' Pavilion dv6-3025dx Entertainment 4GB Laptop 500GB Notebook PCI bought this laptop from best buy in early September of 2010. I would have given it 4 stars, but after only a month of use it quit working. I think the graphics card may have overheated. The system lights would come on but nothing showed up on the screen. Also it happened overnight when the laptop was on, but not in use.

Luckily hp fixed it free of charge and it is working great now. The ram, hd space, and processor are all really great and pretty fast for the price of this laptop. My only complaint is that the graphics card only has 128 mb of dedicated memory which is not great. Luckily the proccessor makes up for it and i can still play most new games on low settings. Older games work fine.

Also the track pad is a pain and not comfortable to use. you just have to push down a little bit to hard to click. Fingerprint scanner works great, and also the HDMI output is great to watch high def movies on a tv.

Overall its a good buy but if youre into gaming or other graphic applications get a laptop with less hd space, a slower processor, but a better graphics card.

I have had nothing but problems with this laptop. The hard drive crashed and I had a friend who replaced it for me. Now the battery is bad and needs replaced. That is with only occasional use and minimal downloading. I also bought my sister the same computer and hers doesn't even work anymore! Piece of junk and wish I had never bought it.

An Awesome laptop with possibly the WORST touchpad on the planet...I mean i haven't been able to type one whole sentence for 6 months now without having it get erased or minimized...It seems that the body of the computer senses palm heat and makes the pointer jump all over...Don't listen to the people that tell you that you can fix it through settings...because you can't...It's actually a two handed touchpad and I have forgotten the good old days of using one hand to navigate...I actually use two hands...one to navigate and one to push the left button...While writing this review I actually had to rewrite it twice and maximize google chrome 4 times...I swear it's as if the people that designed it weren't even thinking about testing while they were in development. ..Because if they did they wouldn't have put it on the market like this...Laptop speed and extras...A++++...

Laptop touchpad....A horrible F MINUS!!!

Acer AS5750-9851 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mesh Black)

Acer AS5750-9851 15.6-Inch Laptop1 word to describe this laptop? AMAZING! I bought this laptop for 519 with amazon prime next day shipping, and let me just say its been a great investment. I couldnt believe how cheap i got it for especially for a laptop with a I7 processor! Yes I7 processor good amount of storage and 4gb of ram.

This computer is superb. The look of it is very nice and it feels great too. It has a perfect match of slim body with large screeen. The keyboard and mouspad work well. I've had several laptop in the past(asus, HP, Gateway) i can honestly say this keyboards stands out. The speakers are another feature that stand out. The sound is very nice especially for a laptop. As for the system: it runs so smooth. Multitasking is so easy with this laptop. I have multiple programs running with very minimal slowdown. As for gaming i am pretty casual. There only few games i play on laptop (League of legends) and it runs nicely on highest graphics, no lag. I wouldnt recommend it for those high-end games. Like i said im not really big with pc games. A downfall to this laptop is the battery, its more on the short side. i got about 4-6 hours depending what exactly i was doing. Another thats not really worth mentioning is the bloatware. But that can be easily uninstalled.

Final words:

This laptop is great especially for the price i paid for it. It looks and feels nice. The sound is great and the system is fast and modern. Everything runs smoothly. The only parts that could use improving is the battery. And next time not as many useless programs. (do i really need nook and new york times installed?)

The product was out of stock at first and Amazon gave you a choice to place your order now and then they would send it to you when they came back in stock. I was a little unsure because I thought it was going to take forever to get it, but I bought it anyways. To my surprise it took a little less than a week for the product to come in, and I received the Acer in 3 days max.

It's a great computer for what I use it for and I definitely recommend it.

I've had the laptop for more than a month now and it is still a total pleasure to use.

My old laptop took almost 2 minutes to get to a useful state....

This laptop is ready to go in under 30 seconds.

It's lightweight, fast, good WiFi reception, good battery life (4 hours), and the screen is big enough for me.

The power connector does need to be inserted at a right angle. If you're slightly off it won't go in. But that's not a big deal.

Full size keyboard nice touch and feel when typing. Full size separate number pad.

I'm happy with it!

Computer worked well right out of the box. Little too much crapwear installed from factory but easily removed without any problems. Screen is nice, the textured cover is another nice feature as it keeps unwanted fingerprints from being seen. If you want it to have some better features. I would suggest adding Microsoft Office. The only thing I didn't care for was where they positioned the power adapter plug in. If you don't keep a battery in it all the time (like I don't), you may end up knocking the power cord out of the computer. Overall a good solid laptop.

This was a very fair price for this computer. Unfortunately, it didn't have the speed I wanted when surfing the web, however, that can also be in part to the service provider in my area.

I think it is a good basic laptop for basic needs.

Hp Nc6220 with Dvd/cdrw Reconditioned Laptop

Hp Nc6220 with Dvd/cdrw Reconditioned LaptopI have had this laptop for over a month, and so far am very pleased with it.It arrived in extremely good condition.I didn't want to purchase a brand new laptop and spend that kind of money,my last laptop was a re-furbished one as well and I had it for 3 years.I accidently spilled a cup of hot tea into it and it ruined it.I was still hesitant about ordering a pc over the internet and now I would do it again and stick with the same seller Affordable PC LLC,I purchased through them because of their positive rating and for the $130 plus shipping charges I paid,I couldn't be happier.

The laptop arrived in just a few days after I ordered it and was preloaded with the software I needed where I noticed that other sellers where charging extra for that.

I just got the computer delivered, have to explain that I shipped overseas where I leave now, an so far its very good.

Seller responded to my questions quickly and it was shipped originally within 24 hs, great transaction. On the computer I ll update more as I use it, but so far I ll buy another one with no doubts

Thank You

HP DV6-3143US Pavilion Notebook PC

HP DV6-3143US Pavilion Notebook PCBeats an overpriced macbook easily i believe, never owned a mac but this HP packs a punch !

.................................................................................................

Positives:++++

.................................................................................................

+Looks super stylish like a macbook

+Has both Intel HD graphics for low power use and ATI Radeon 5650 for powered on use. Easily switchable with a mouse click. 5650 has 40% performance compared to the most powerful graphics available for laptops as per notebookcheck.net website. Good enough considering a 60% perfomance GPU like GTX 460m integrated into a laptop will cost at least $1250

+Windows Experience index WithouT considering low speed hard drive and 4GB RAM is 6.6 out of max 7.9. With considering hard drive/RAM it drops to 5.9. Though 4GB RAM is pretty much enough unless you plan to play intensive games such as Crysis for which i am getting 8GB 1333 Mhz corsair.

+ The installed RAM seems to be 4GB PC3-10600 which is a DDR3 1333Mhz. Should be at least good or even better than a 1066 Mhz RAM in other laptops of similar price

+ Intel HD graphics looks surprisingly good when compared to another laptop i tried with same graphics. Good enough for online browsing, videos and desktop use.

+Altec Lansing Dolby 7.1 speakers.

+Plays crysis super smooth at medium-high settings. Can play at high settings at around 30fps

+Esata/usb, Touchpad tap locking mechanism

Negatives:-

.................................................................................................

-A slightly lower ranked i3 370M intel chip. Would have been great if it were i5 4xxm with Turbo-boost. Nevertheless still good performance.

-HP clutterware, get your own copy of windows and clean out all that. (Students get it free from msdn alliance with your university).

-Could get really hot easily if using the ATI 5650 GPU. Make sure you use it only when at home and over a notebook cooler like Zalman2000 or Nzxt cryo. Otherwise stick to Intel HD GPU to prolong laptop life.

NZXT ACC-NT-CRYO-LX 120MM Aluminum Notebook Cooler Adjustable Fans (Silver)

-Monitoring with RealTemp Software tells me the CPU cores could get to about 70C degree celsius and ATI GPU to 64C (throughout averaging 64C and 59C respectively) under 5 hours+ prolonged gaming load (crysis) even when cooled by a high speed NZXT cryo Aluminium cooler with external DC adapter plugged in. The left side of the laptop is where all the CPU/ATIGPU/IntelGPU is located and thats where all the heat is generated. The left side of the touch pad and top of the laptop also gets hot and i recommend using something like "thermapak heatshift" over the laptop keyboard (if you are not using it) which should be help it cool down further for a good 4 hours+ of worry free gaming . Though make sure your ambient temperature of not over normal comfortable room temperature for good performance in cooling down your laptop.

ThermaPAK HeatShift Laptop Cooler 15 inch Black

-Havent found a way to make the laptop choose intel GPU by default at starup. The default choice is ATI GPU.

Got blue screen of death and restarted a few times by itself when trying to install a few antivirus trials with Zone Alarm firewall and Windows Defender enabled. Finally figured out Zone alarm works with Bit Defender 2011 Antivirus with everything except Antivirus capability turned off.

-No finger print reader, USB 3.0, PCIe Express Card Slot.

--------------

Nothing short of a steal for the price. I was upgrading from a dell inspiron 1440. Running on an out dated integrated graphics, and an outdated cpu. I wanted something with power in the graphics and processing department. Expecting to shell out some extra cash for something with a little more kick. That's when I came across the 3143, which I am actually typing this review on right now. I am nothing short of extremely happy with it. The price dropped since I got it, down $50, yet I still believe I got it at a steal. Anything else even close to the specs of this laptop is going to run you at least $800. That $400 savings that amazon put up there is no joke. I've been playing games like Crysis 2, Civilization V, H.A.W.X and Sims 3, like a charm. And they all run smooth and look beautiful, the 3143 can run them at great resolutions, and high texture details. Also a nice 15.6" screen makes it great for multi-tasking and programming. This laptop offers so much for so little and in no way sacrifices graphics, processing or portability for cost or any other reason. Don't let the i3 processor fool you. It one of the better i3 processors that can beat i5 processors in benchmark tests. Go to notebookcheck.net and search for the "i3-370M" to see for yourself.

Only con is that the gpu can get quite hot when playing games, however that is expected as is the decrease of battery life when playing high end games, about 1-2hours. But like I said that is expected. However, using the integrated gpu with normal usage will land you great battery life.

Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. There is not one bad thing I could say about it without nitpicking.

I was skeptical at first before I bought this computer. There were only 2 reviews so I decided to make this third one to assure people this is a good computer. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I got this computer a few months ago and back then I would have easily given this computer 5 stars. I got it for $600 and it runs way better, faster, and smoother than any of my friends laptops. Most of them have Macbook Pros, and this was only half the price. So far out of all 96 games I have on steam, my computer hasn't had trouble running 1 of them. The majority can run on max settings with no noticeable lag. Even games that require a lot (like metro 2033) can run on this computer. Sure, not on max settings, but then again it's only a laptop and it's only $600. The only real problem I had with this computer was overheating. It would reach temperatures as high as 95 degrees! You couldn't even hold your hand out in front of the vent for over 10 seconds! There were a lot of steps I went through to overcome this problem. I got a cooling pad. It didn't work. I messed with a bunch of processing settings. It didn't work. Finally I got a can of condensed air. I sprayed it in the vent and a cloud of dust came out. My temperature was reduced by about 20-30 degrees. I suggest you just do that (also maybe get a cooling pad, if it's still hot) The overheating would be a bigger issue, but the performance I get out of this computer makes it worth it. I suggest buying this computer. Just get the condensed air and clean off the fan every now and then and you should be good to go. I also saw the price raised to $800, I still say it's worth it.

Alienware M14x R2 AM14XR2-6111BK 14.0-Inch Laptop (Stealth Black with Soft Touch Finish)

Alienware M14x R2 AM14XR2-6111BK 14.0-Inch LaptopI don't have this exact model as it's a ready to ship prebuild one. I got mine in June of 2012 so the specs vary and I will list them:

i7-3610QM

8 GB DDR3

750GB 7200RPM

650M 1GB

1600 x 900 resolution

The build quality is excellent, the feel of the laptop when I use it is spectacular, it has a matte almost rubberish finish so it's not metal and doesn't get finger prints on it.

The keyboard has some flex, but nothing that you'd ever notice during normal use. It also has one of the best keyboards that I have used, the feeling is excellent and is 2nd to the higher end business line of Lenovo laptops.

The CPU is a powerhouse for being a mobile edition with 4 physical cores and hyperthreading you get 8 threads, combined with turboboost which can jump the 2.3 Ghz clock beyond 3.0Ghz this CPU blazes through tasks and anything I throw at it. While I have an i7 and this is an i5, the Ivy Bridge architecture with the 3rd generation is the same with both CPUs and is excellent, the i5 is a nice CPU and will handle anything you'd be able to throw at it with ease.

The 650M with 1GB will run nearly any game on high at native resolution, just make sure to properly ventilate the laptop of the GPU will underclock itself due to the heat. The GPU's stock clock is 745Mhz and will go up to somewhere around 850Mhz if needed for short periods of time. The extra 1GB on this model will help with textures and will provide some overhead for future games.

The AlienFX is nice and is part of the reason this laptop is expensive, you can set them to change to a different scheme when a certain .EXE file is running, which is great for games. As an example for Skyrim I would set the keyboard to go to all white. Some games implement the FX into the code of the game, like World of Tanks where if you get hit the keyboard will flash red.

The laptop can run pretty hot, I always have it elevated and when gaming plug the fans in. Personally I use a Cooler Master Notepal U2 which fits the laptop perfectly. When gaming the fans can be fairly loud, but if you have the audio on it's hardly noticeable. My temps with some small overclocks stay around 70 degrees Celsius. Because of the heat dispersion layout, when the laptop gets hot the keyboard and palm rest do also.

Battery life for me is what you would expect for such a powerful laptop, I can get about 3-5 hours depending on what is running, which is enough for me to make it through my classes. This i5 model will have better life because it's not running a quadcore CPU.

This laptop should have an MSATA slot under the bottom cover, allowing for a second hard drive that can be used either for storage, or as caching to speed up your HDD, they range from 32GB up to 128GB+ and are slightly more expensive than a normal SSD. I have yet to get one and cannot evaluate their value as of yet. If this changed I will update this.

There have been some issues with this laptop so I will list them:

I put the laptop into hibernate and it would not boot back up, needed a motherboard replacement. Dell / Alienware had a tech to my house in a couple of days and the laptop was back in perfect working order.

My "r" key needs to be replaced as it broke (the key itself not the mechanism) and they're sending someone out to replace the whole keyboard.

While not a real issue, the number of USB ports is slightly disappointing but I knew that going in.

I cannot natively run 3 monitors so far; I use the native screen, a 1600 x 900 HP through VGA and wanted to extend to my TV through HDMI but it will not allow that, I have heard that the Mini-Displayport may allow this but I have not bought an adapter. While a USB to VGA or DVI is always possibly I would rather a native solution be available.

Battery isn't easily removed, you need to unscrew 2 screws to take the bottom cover off, then 2 more to take out the battery which makes it difficult to carry more than one. My battery has so far experienced a 10.4% battery wear according to BatteryBar.

On an end note: If you are experiencing very low FPS in a game in moderate settings, ensure you're using the dedicated card, the system uses Nvidia Optimus which allows you to use the dedicated card when needed and the HD4000 when it's not. You can make any program use the dedicated card simply by right clicking, going to "run with graphics processor" and opening the Nvidia Control Panel, adding the EXE to the list and selecting the dedicated card from the drop down.

While there are other brands of laptops with similar or the same specs for ~$100 cheaper or so, I find this laptop to be worth the money, and when looking around, an Apple Macbook Pro of the same specs costs $1800 for me, where as I paid $1300 for my version.

Edit 3/5/13: Last week the tech came out the and keyboard was replaced, I observed minimal dis-assembly of the laptop, consisting of the bottom, some screws, and the bezel around the keyboard, then 2 more screws, the ribbon strips for connection and FX, then a replacement. The new one does have the new windows logo implemented for Win 8 and is up to par with the prior keyboard.

I will note that the lighting seems a little dimmer, especially with the space key. But this is in normal light and not darkness, when my room is dark the whole keyboard is clearly visible.

Very powerful, the battery life isnt as grand as they say, and it would have been better with Windows 7 on it, but all in all very good laptop.

Core Duo T2300, 2GB, 120GB

Core Duo T2300, 2GB, 120GBI ordered this laptop on Amazon, but the actual vendor was J&R. Amazon is very good in delivering package on time. When I opened the package I felt very happy to see the shining Acer Aspire notebook.

Installed everything, and started to use it normally, then I found that the volume is very bad. Its very low compared to HP. But the screen and the colours are very good.

Also the base gets heated up very fast. After using for some 45 min, the base of the laptop is like a burner.

I dont know, I didnt like the laptop for this volume & Heat and thought of returning back. I called up J&R and they gave me a RA number, I sent my laptop to them and after 1 week I got my money back.

Both Amazon and J&R are excellent.

Plenty of cool stuff and used to be a good value for money at acquisition (march2006).

Draw backs: Speakers are terrible (miss the Harman option) and processor overheats Notebook shell and mouse pad making it unpleaseant to use.

Last, but not least, the screen started to generate an inch wide vertical line that soon after expanded into a second one and who knows where this will end (september2006).

A shame warranty does not cover it!

Tom
