Maybe I'm biased because my old laptop was literally falling apart, but I love this laptop. It works quickly and efficiently. It's very organized. I wasn't willing to spend an insane amount on a computer just to surf the web. I have had incredibly good luck with HP products. I would advise anyone looking to purchase a simple laptop to give this one a shot.
I bought this laptop for my girlfriend 3 months ago so she could use it for school. For the first week this was a wonderful laptop and worked and functioned properly as I was told most toshiba's do. Then into week two the mouse pad starting doing some stupid things almost like a button was electronically stuck or something. I took it to best buy where I purchased it and they tried to repair it there. That didn't work, not their fault, they are't computer repair people really, so they told me they had to send it off to have it repaired. I said no problem, things break that's okay with me, it happens. So I sent it off for toshiba to replace the touch pad on it with best buy giving toshiba specific instructions to contact me if for some odd reason they had to repair or replace the hard drive as I had not gotten around to making an operating system disk for it and didn't have all my data backed up yet. Well, two weeks went by and my laptop was returned to best buy from toshiba with a new hard drive and toshiba never bothered to call best buy or me when they did that. So in my mind, since Im a mechanic by trade, that's like giving a customer back a car with a brand new engine with no oil in it. Stupid huh, yeah. Anyway, I told the manager of best buy what happened and he took care of me and made me an opating system disk to use on my new hard drive and I also got to keep that disk for future use. As far as my data goes it was lost to the world, but still, I got my lap top back and it was working correctly again, at least for a week. After a week it began doing the same thing it was orginially doing. So I brought it back in and they sent it off for another two weeks and this time they replaced the mouse pad. At this point she has had this laptop for a total of two months and only been able to use it for one. Okay, well they made a mistake the first time and they fixed it, I guess I can live with it. Then a month goes by and now we get to today, its broken again! So now I am going to be heading to best buy and asking them to give me a new laptop cause I no longer have faith in this perticular one and I don't want to deal with toshiba customer service anymore. All in all, it's not best buy's fault, but because the toshiba service place ain't worth crap, best buy is stuck with an angry customer!
I, like most people, had a list of "dream qualities" I was looking for in my next laptop. I had gotten over (as more people should) the fear of the new guy on the block. Asus makes fine, well designed computers, with prices that are about on par with Gateway, but with a quality and design build more comparable to far more expensive brands. They consistently score at or near the top of their class in reviews on reputable consumer tech websites like cnet.com. And the dream computer I had picked out is a beauty! It's also not the one I ended up with.
11/2/12 clarification the model I bought at Fry's has slightly different specs than the one here. Everything appears to be the same but mine has a 6GB DDR3 memory. Also, I'm having trackpad problems again. I tap it and my tap won't register. Sometimes if I hit the escape key, and then tap it will register. I'll call Lenovo when I have the time, but for now I am disabling it and using an external mini sized travel mouse.

Super fast shipping! When I first got this laptop there was a problem after a few weeks so I asked for an exchange. They sent me a brand new one the next day! Great service. As for the laptop, I love it! Especially it's light weight. I don't like iMACs but I do like their laptop design and THIS Lenovo laptop has almost the same design PLUS a home and end key which MACs don't have. What a pleasant surprise. Right of the box the U410 sets up in minutes and is ready to use. Amazingly fast boot up from start....30 seconds or so. Keyboard is a pleasure to work with. Pressure on keys is a little firm and a plus in my estimate. I have had this laptop for a couple of weeks now and have not had a single problem of any kind. So far, reliable and stable unit. I have had this computer for exactly one week. The main irksome thing about this machine is its keyboard and mouse pad. The keyboard space has shrunk about 3cm from my old Compaq. Not only that, each key has a smaller face, because the "gutters" between keys are taking up space too. When you type, your fingers (and arms) are cramped together more than with an average keyboard. A bigger problem comes from the small face of keys like "Shift," "Alt," "Ctrl," and particularly the four arrows keys. It is hard not to mis-press things without breaking your eye contact with the screen and looking at the keyboard. The biggest trouble is how "home," "page up" "page down" and "end" are positioned. For the short week I had this machine, I have made numerous mistakes hitting the "page down" button, when all I wanted was move the cursor to the end of a line.
perfectly as descript except for the battery life which was advertised to last for 11 hour but lasted for 6-8 hours went doing little tasks like reading; while browsing on 3g gives me only but 4 hours on the average which is kind of disappointing bcos I use internet a lot on the go.
My take on this experience is: 1) Don't buy computers from Amazon. 2) If you think customer service should fix a problem on a brand new computer to your satisfaction, don't buy HP.

I absolutely love my new HP laptop! it is much faster and easier to use than my old HP pavilon. (this one had XP and only 80GB hard drive and had long since been passed up technologically but still ran) that is why i purchased another HP Pavilion. I am impressed with the fact that windows 7 can read almost everything that the older programs have in them. It is awesome. i use this for school, for business and also for some work. i reccommend it to everyone and the graphics are great. I had a 2 year old Toshiba with similar specs die on me, mother board...never again purchase one of those. Needed fast replacement. Work and existing computers all on windows 7. I want to keep them compatible and so far not a fan of Windows 8.

Comes with W7 and W8, lots of consumer crap to remove but all in all a decent product for the price
This is my first notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium which was preloaded with all the usual bloatware on a large 640GB hard drive (5400rpm). I recommend removing all the trialware you can. Hopefully the expirence will be as nice as Windows XP.
I just bought this laptop and I have to say, it is pretty darn fast. I love the sleek white color of the laptop, it reminds me of my MAC. It has a strong processor, great touch, and an easy feel. Plus, I'm not burdened with Windows 8, which I have used, and heard that it is by far the worst Windows ever created. This one still has Windows 7...thank GOD!
This is a very basic, low-level laptop. It's not necessarily bad, it's just not that great either. Loads slow, video buffers a lot and system stutters when browsing through panels in the W8 modern UI. Perhaps with a little more RAM it might run faster, but I don't want to have to upgrade a laptop right out of the box. If money is an issue, this will work, but you can probably find something perhaps $50 more that may be a bit better out of the box.

My old Dell's screen went out, so I began a search on which laptop would be as reliable but have more space. I purchased this laptop (toshiba satellite c855-ds5357) around November of 2012 I am SHOCKED at how slowly it processes. I don't have it bogged down. I can have only one window open, but videos lag and look choppy. It takes me an hour to process a Fed Ex print order that used to take me only 5-10 minutes because page changes are S-l-O-W. Customer support was a joke they told me 2 months ago that I didn't have a warranty. It was supposed to come with a 1 year couldn't understand their CS Rep but I knew he was trying to sell me more stuff that I didn't need. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THIS PRODUCT, BECAUSE IT WAS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT BOUGHT IN NOV AND GIVEN AT CHRISTMAS BY TIME IT WAS FIRST USED THE 30 DAY WARRANTY FROM THE SELLER(AMAZON) HAD EXPIRED. This computer could take anything I threw at it. It is perfect for multitasking. The built in JBL speakers are great for a laptop. The screen was good too. Perfect for HD movies and getting business done. This was my 3rd Lenovo/IBM and they delivered yet again. Looses a start due to being a bit big.
I have been disappointed with the construction of my previous three laptops which is why I looked into something sturdier and the Panasonic TOughbook CF-F9 delivered. There is nothing cheap about this product. With so many power settings, the battery lasts so much longer than my previous laptops. I love the built-in handle as it allows me quick exit from the airport security check line without having to store it back in the case. I attend many meetings where the main meeting is broken up into smaller sub-meetings and this is perfect for that environment too. It was about 3x more than what I have paid for in the past, but the quality is justified so far.
I waited a long time for this one. I wanted portability, great battery life, a disk drive and small size. It has blue tooth, HDMI, USB 3.0 has 4 gb ram Windows 8 and it is small enough to carry for travel, but big enough so you can read the screen. Any way the build quality is very high and it is very light. I downloaded classic shell so the laptop is looking like a classic windows laptop. The touch pad is responsive and I have also used the unit with a wireless mouse and big monitor and keyboard and it worked flawlessly. Having HDMI means I can show pictures on our big TV and the resolution was great. Battery life is about 5 hours--I know because used it for 5 hours straight. I could not be happier!
