I have been a PC person for 20 years. i took a chance and bought a MAC. I will never go back. For those who are thinking of moving to mac, don't worry you will love it. The only issue was all my Microsoft office products. But Microsoft for mac 2008/2011 took care of that. I can literally use the computer for 6-9 hours on the battery. It is hands down so much more of a tool than the PC thought of being!!
This is my second Vaio and it works fine after a week. There's a light "squeak" as I hit the space bar. Hope it will stop.
if you're looking for a portable desktop/multimedia center, look no further. although it's probably one of the heaviest notebooks out there at 9.9 lbs, you'll soon forget about the weight once you see the enormous 17" widescreen display. not to mention the blazing fast p4 2.8gHz hyper-threading chip and the 800mHz system bus. the dvd-rw is also a nice feature for home movie making and watching. because of the widescreen, it is able to house a full-size keyboard, which is always a plus when performing tasks that require lots of typing. the entire notebook is housed in a sleek, modern casing with a metallic blue outer shell, and silver metallic on the inside. it has all the ports you need, including an s-video out for connection to your tv, and four that's right, count'em four usb 2.0 ports for hooking up peripherals. it even has an SD drive for loading pictures from your digital camera.
All is great, Great deal, the MacBook and the extras included are OK. I've been using it since the first day I got it and had no issues with it.

The HP Pavilion DV6700t is a tough workhorse with many refined features. It has been very reliable, runs Win7 nicely with a 4GB memory upgrade I did. These are readily available on the used and refurbished market, and I believe one would be a good buy at $300 or so.
I've had this computer for almost two months now. The only problem that I've found is with the touchpad drivers. Sometimes when the computer wakes up from a sleep, the two-finger scrolling function on touchpad does not work. Other than that, everything else has worked flawlessly for me, including the wireless network card. The only other items worth mentioning is that the display is not as bright as some other laptop, like the Dell Inspiron 14z, and the battery lasts nowhere near the 9-hours claimed by Lenovo. It's closer to 4 5 hours with display brightness at 50%. Despite having less ports on the Dell 14z, I would recommend the Dell over this Lenovo. Dell also includes a built-in DVD drive, which comes in handy. (I don't work for Dell. I just have both machines.)

DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP! This is my first amazon review and I was motivated to write it because of the totally unusable experience I've had with it. The wireless is unusable. I'm a pretty sophisticated computer user and we have multiple devices operating on our wifi network but this computer without question has repeated wifi connection problems. In addition, the trackpad driver software crashes constantly when microsoft office is opened. At first I loved it. 3 whole weeks of computer bliss before the first pixel went. Then a while line of pixels. I called them and they said it was definitely under warranty and to send it to the Toshiba repair center. They told me to back it up when I turned it on to do that the screen looked even worse! It was basically a crappy screen death spiral. After 3 weeks of thinking about it they said it was not under warranty and I would have to pay them $600 to fix it. After 7 hours on the phone with them I called Amazon. The AMAZING people at Amazon took it back!! Toshiba almost cost me the Toshiba refund because even when I asked for them to return it to me broken so that I could return it to Amazon, they lied about when they shipped it, lied about the shipping method. It took 3 weeks to be returned. This was my 3rd Toshiba and probably 10th that I have participated in the purchase of / recommended (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles)... it was also my LAST. Lessons learned: only buy computers from Amazon; never buy Toshiba.

I have owned many Toshiba laptops...the one I have now is only 2 years old and won't start anymore. I checked Toshiba Forums and many others have the same problem. Toshiba wants $119 to diagnose it and $354 to fix the motherboard. At that point, I would just buy another laptop...of course never a Toshiba again. Purchased from Amazon July 2012. Enjoyed Traveling with computer light weight and good battery life. Miss the numeric key pad and the mouse pad buttons do not work if you are touching the other mouse pad button. Some of the other reviewers here have had issues with Dell products in the past, as have I from time to time; however, you can't deny you are getting decent hardware for the money. If I were you I'd ignore some of these other reviews which clearly have not actually tried this exact Inspiron model as it was first released in October of 2012 and they are talking like they've had it for a year and a half! I've owned Inspirons in the past and plan on them lasting me 3-4 years. That's exactly what you should expect out of any inexpensive laptop. I bought this particular model because I wanted the new Ivy Bridge processor and SSD included with this model. So far, it works great!

Software: The Lenovo 'solution center' is one of the largest problems. It consumes so much in the way of resources. Kill it if it starts up. Windows 8? If you're a programmer who wants to look at all the optional stuff it probably looks great, which is probably why it ended up being what it is. If you're a user it's frustratingly cumbersome to use with too much crap you have to work through and more difficult to navigate to just about anything. I'll never update my XP computers if I have the choice. I'm going to see about switching this computer over to an open source OS. It can't be any worse and I don't care for mac.
I had some issues when watching streaming video the ATI graphic card would get a error message then crash. Updated Video drivers and BIOS. now works perfectly ..
Excellent display , very sharp . Laptop is very fast , no running never hot , No Noisy . I love the backlit keyboard . Need to be carefull with the panel of the display because is to fragil , but this is essencial part to be lightweight . Excellent to travel ,
Wow I can say this has been the best laptop and bought till this day, and that I have a Asus G73, alienware m17x R3, but the m18x is class apart.
