The touchpad was problematic from the beginning, it was always bringing up different menus when I did not want them. Even in the middle of working in an application, it would open up something I didnt even select.

I have had this laptop for 2 weeks. It came with Win8 and it is very touchy like the other reviewer says. But I don't think it is Win8, I think it is this piece of junk touchpad. If you put too much pressure on the bezel next to the touchpad, the mouse jumps to another spot. I want to take a hammer to this piece of crap. The memory it came with, 4GB DDR3, is the worst in the market. I did some research and found out that the memory is slower than DDR2 in some cases. I purchase 8GB DDR3, Patriot brand, and it now runs faster and smoother. I do not recommend this laptop simply for the fact that the touchpad is garbage. I have a couple of IBM Thinkpads that I really love and I thought I would have the same experience but I was wrong. One of the problems with the touchpad is that there are no buttons, it is just a big rectangle with the buttons under the lower-left and -right corners. Sometimes they respond and sometimes they don't. JUNK!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPUTER IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO!!!

Acer Aspire 7520-5115 Have this laptop and am very impressed with the quality and ease of use of the unit; also, it runs cool. Can't say anything bad about it ! This Acer model is a lot of computer for the money. My unit was upgraded to 4 GB memory, which is maximum . The monitor screen is awesome, as is the webcam.

I owned this laptop for just over a year. I upgraded the RAM to 4 Gigs. This was a great laptop. It was more of a desktop replacement though. It is large and bulky, but I knew what I wanted when I purchased it. Great screen, ran cool, great webcam, had aux input jack (which most laptops don't), and it just worked flawlessly. Hooking up to an external monitor/TV works great!

This is a great laptop, but is more of a desktop replacement. I think it weighs just over 9 lbs. Screen is big and bright with great resolution. Full sized keyboard as well as numerical keypad. Great system! I don't regret ever owning this system.

OK I wanted a tablet, but I needed a small laptop when traveling for work. I love this thing!!! It does exactly what I need. I did have to get rid of some free-wear 'gifts.' Its not pre-loaded with too many items I don't want, but there were a few. I gamed on it for hours, the thing does not get too hot nor is the fan too loud. Its light, easy to carry. I do need a better case. The one it came with, well, it leaves much to be desired. Asus gave me a cool backpack with my large republic of gamers laptop. I purchased this at "best buy" for $800 (Tax included). This is by far the best computer I've ever used. I notice some people complain about the audio, and how the speakers crackle (I haven't had this issue at all), I however don't use the speakers for sound on my laptop, but instead have it hooked up to a 2.1 system that I've had for my old PC, and it works great! Everything is smooth running and fast. would highly recommend buying this system. Only problem that I am have is finding a laptop carrying case that is big enough for it. But I do not really plan on traveling with it much anyway... hope my review is helpful for you...

I actually just bought this computer at a Best Buys for $ 779.99. I only have been exploring it for a couple of hours, but one of the first things I noticed was that the sound was below inferior. It has a touted feature called "SRS Premium", that among other features, provides a virtual, 3d sound effect; the volume being very limited. It includes many parameters, including a graphic EQ with presets, that seem to do little, if nothing to affect the sound. It includes Altec Lansing speakers, which at first glance, you'd think would indeed be superior. Quite the opposite! They crackle and break up constantly, and forget about even a hint of any real bass. I eventually ended up uninstalling this whole driver and reinstalling a basic driver, minus all the fancy features. This VASTLY improved both the volume and sound quality available.

On the plus side, a huge 17.3" screen, a dedicated number pad, a dual-core CPU; both rated at 2.5 GHz, along with 4GBs of installed RAM; expandable to 8GB, and wireless "N" are included. A 500 GB hard drive and accessible DVD drive that also supports BluRay! To complement this, 4 USB ports and an HDMI output are provided.

On the whole, I think I will end up being very happy with this PC, once I completely resolve the sound issues.

I'm in love with my laptop, it's really awesome. It's true that the sound from the speakers is bad, but who cares, when we almost don't use the speakers in a regular basis to hear its audio (sometimes I use the speakers, but I put them very low and it works fine) and also when this notebook has all these amazing features. Only few laptops in the market has all these funtions with a great price. It only cost me tax in BJ's in a month where this laptop was on sale, so imagine how happy I should be.

Well I am disappointed that after a year the motherboard gave out so fast. I didn't do a thorough research before purchasing this laptop to have known the effects it had. As to what the other reviewer JT mentioned the heating problem ( it is certainly a major problem). I enjoyed the time I had with the laptop up until that year. I have always taken care of any product that I purchased to last for as long as it can. I read on other forums later on that a lot of people had the same issue with the motherboard crashing just after a year. This is the first HP product I bought that gave me such an issue. I even bought a separate cooling fan thinking that would help, guess what it didn't change a thing. For spending (899+ tax) on it, I felt that I was cheated thinking I would have a laptop that would last longer than a year. I never really did anything major on there except for when I needed to use Microsoft word, watch a movie, browse the internet, small projects. I honestly did enjpy the laptop when it worked but now I am wondering whether to replace the motherboard or simply trash it, since my warranty was over like 4 months before this happened (funny right). I went back to best buy's Geek squad the guy told me it would cost 700-1400 to repair, he himself told me I'm better off buying a new one rather than to spend that kind of money for repairs. So overall if you're looking to purchase this be warned and even check over the internet you'll see a lot of complaints about the motherboard giving out after a year.

I'll start off by saying it does still work and has never failed to run. However HP update never worked from the beginning and Blu-ray player has never played a single bluray. It has a hard time with normal DVDs at times. I have to use windows media center. Probably the thing that aggravates me the most being i could have paid alot less for one without a bluray drive. Overheats easily just playing movies and not even gaming. Video card is extremely complicated to get to for cleaning and you risk damaging other components (big part of the heat problem). Duster can is not strong enough to clean it so I had to use an air compressor. Frequent hard drive errors that need repair. Also just found out it uses 2x2gb of ddr2 800mhz memory which is terrible even for when i purchased it and will only except specific hp modules successfully(ddr3 greater than 2000mhz is used today and are cheap). Slow outdated dual core processor. No ability to change anything to improve computers performance via bios. msconfig allows enabling all cores on startup tho and works for all computers. Not even worth the effort to put a SSD into it. I will add that i build my own computers now and know how to update anything from software to motherboard bios to firmware updates.

Sorry for the length, but I feel buyers should know... I own two Dell desktops, a Toshiba laptop, and an Asus gaming laptop. I feel that I am very adequate with technical knowledge and I handle most of my support issues personally (i.e. hardware upgrades, repairs, as well as software issues). I researched desktops and laptops extensivelly before I made any purchases. I recently had to purchase a laptop for a graduation gift for my son. I wanted to get him a good laptop for college, which could handle all his classwork and also provide some entertainment. I found numerous reviews on laptops, and two of the most relaible sources listed Asus and Toshiba as tops in reliability. This does not suprise me. I love my Asus gaming laptop. My Toshiba laptop had issues when I tried to use the recovery disk to take it back to its factory state. Toshiba's customer service was useless and I really feel that they were running a scam to get me to service the laptop through them. I was not happy with them, thankfully I could fix it myself (Clean install of operating system because their recovery disc, the one that came with it, and the two I had to purchase directly from them, were corrupt and would not install). This brings me back to Asus. Who is Asus, but the manufacturer of top hardware for other companies. They are the manufacturers of motherboards and such for companies like Dell and HP. When you buy a Dell or HP, you are most likely purchasing an Asus product. Therefore, why not just buy the Asus instead. Take a good look at their warranty... not bad, is it? I cannot comment on their custumer service, because I have never had to contact them. From other sources I hear that they have one of the best support services in the US. Moving along, this takes me to this Asus model. I struggled with my decision to purchase this model due to the ratings. I always take others personal experiences into consideration. However, in this case I decided to follow my own instincts and disregard what others said. After searching high and low, this was a great price for a laptop with these specs, and from a manufacturer who I have solid faith in. I bought it. I took the time to set it up properly... which if you have ever done this, it is not a plug and play process. It is a grueling 3-4 hours of creating recovery discs (you can just use the partition, but why take the chance), updating hardware (drivers and such) and fully updating windows. You MUST fully uninstall the security software (virus, firewall, etc...) that comes with the laptop if you decide to go with another security software company. DO NOT JUST PUT YOUR OWN SECURITY SOFTWARE ON WITHOUT UNINSTALLING THE FACTORY STATE SOFTWARE! (This could be the cause of a lot of issues) To fully uninstall, I suggest you go to that company's support website and follow their directions for uninstallation, including using their downloadable tool if one is provided. When you have two different security software products installed on the same computer, you could create a wicked war that will cause operating system errors, failures, and unfortunately crashes. Hmmmm, sound familiar? While this process is time consuming, it should be followed no matter which laptop you purchase! After following all of this, I found this laptop to be excellent. No errors, no failures, and definitly no crashes. Not to disregard other buyer's issues and reviews, no company is perfect and lemons do make it to the market. It is up to you to decide, but in my opinion, I have purchased a wonderful laptop, with great specs, for an amazing price. I am so happy I followed my instincts. Congratulations Asus, you have once again raised the bar!

This is a great deal. I spent a long time researching laptops in the 500-800 dollar price range to figure out what the best fit for me would be. After comparing and researching for weeks, I randomly found this listing for this laptop one night, and purchased it 10 minutes later. Even though this laptop had only 10 reviews and less than 3 stars, my gut told me to go with it. And I'm glad I did.

Now let's get a few things straight right off the bat. It has no USB 3.0. It also has no WiMAX or WIDI capabilities.

That is the end of my cons list.

Now for the pros. For $529.00, you get:

-The latest Intel i5 processor with Sandy Bridge, running at 2.3ghz with turbo boost up to 2.9ghz. And it works fabulously.

-A 640gb hard drive

-A comfortable chiclet keyboard complete with a numpad.

-One of the best touchpads I've used on any laptop, ever.

-A damn sexy computer.

Now I don't know what the negative reviewers on this site are talking about. I have not once had "programs open at random" or anything of that nature. I have never once had a problem turning on or shutting down the computer, or lag of any sort. Then again, I did take the time to remove any programs I did not want when I received it, I created restore disks, and I configured my anti-virus properly. PCs with Windows these days are incredibly dumbed-down, user-friendly machines. Now I understand that not all people are technologically savvy. I understand that even with the user-friendliness of Windows 7 things can be extremely confusing, especially getting things setup for the first time. And that is fine. However, I think it is just plain silly and extremely misleading to rate a product 1/5 stars when the only thing that should be rated 1/5 is your own technological know-how. I'm sorry, I just felt like that needed to be said. Now back to the actual review.

This computer runs quickly, has a decent display, the hdmi works flawlessly, the Smart-Logon facial recognition works incredibly (you do have to set it up and configure it correctly, obviously), it runs as fast as you would think the i5 should, it looks SEXY AS HELL, it feels like it's built like a tank, it has never once felt more than SLIGHTLY warm no matter what I'm putting it through, it connects to the internet 2 minutes after unboxing and is an overall GREAT DEAL.

If you are reading this review and considering this laptop, but are afraid to purchase it based on the negative reviews, I understand your concern. But I'm here to tell you that I had the same concern, purchased it anyway, and am very glad that I did. If you can do without USB 3.0 and WIDI/WiMAX capabilities, this computer is perfect for you. In my opinion, it is just as durably built, just as fast, just as nice as most $700.00 laptops I've seen recently. Don't let the bad reviews steer you away. Read the good ones. I don't know why there are so many bad reviews about this computer.I recently bought this computer and I am very happy with this product. ASUS used to make motherboards, they know what they're doing!! I have owned SONY VIAO, Toshiba, HP, and others and I am well acquainted with good computers and bad computers. I am very happy with this computer. The i5 processor has been able to handle my every need, it also has a turbo processor which has helped immensely.

I travel a lot (usually get about 6hrs, which is a lot for a screen this big) and the battery life is great. The option to have the computer running on high performance or battery saving, I think that is great depending on what you're doing. The screen size is great. I wasn't to comfortable with the keyboard at first, but after a week I was.

The only thing I can truly complain about with this computer is the camera. The video quality is medium, which is not what I expected of ASUS. Not a problem however if you don't use it too much. If it is a problem you can buy a good one on the internet from $40. Overall I am very happy with this computer, other than the camera I have no problems. I will update if there is anything wrong with it.

I have read others issues with this computer and have seen none of such with my machine. The only thing bothersome to me is that the price of computers drop so much, a month ago I paid $100 more. Cannot blame anyone for that though, its just how it is. The computer runs great and I do not have any sort of errors or freezing problems to note about. I am not doubting the other users having problems or their capabilities of being able to use the computers, however I am wondering if some (the ones complaining about software issues) might be related to malware or adware that was inadvertantly installed due to navigating or downloading certain things from the web. I do not use this laptop for heavy computing or tasks. I bought it for convenience of having a computer to tote around with me. Its perfect for that and I would not hesitate to buy it again. Especially since it dropped $100 in a month. grr!

After much research I chose the ASUS A53E-XA2 laptop because it had all of the features I wanted at a reasonable price. There were several bad reviews from people who apparently had some issues with this model, but I have had none of the problems others have described and am very happy with my purchase. However I also created my own back-up disks and removed the inferior pre-installed antivirus software and installed a better one. Twice actually because I later changed my mind and decided on a different antivirus. Never had a problem.

I would point out that the trackpad is EXTREMELY sensitive. I've just hovered my finger over it while I was reading and the next thing I know I've unintentionally clicked something. It also has sophisticated features like you can zoom in or out of a page or turn on the scroll function, this has also unintentionally happened several times. This is to be expected from a trackpad with so many capabilities. I don't really consider this a problem, just an annoyance.

I will also say that it is sometimes a little slower than I expect when opening programs. I am a photographer and often have several different things open at the same time between editing programs and various websites I use. Sometimes there is a lag when I open a program for the first time, or when a program or site is open but unused for awhile and I go back to it. But this only happens the one time, and not even all the time, and after that it's fine. I've also noticed this becomes a bigger problem and my editing programs start lagging if I don't fully shut down the computer for several days. Again, this is something I can live with.

I have not removed any of the other pre-installed software because far as I can tell they have not caused any problems, but others who are more, um, persnickety let's say, might want them gone. Shouldn't be a big deal.

Overall I would definitely recommend this laptop. And already have. Just have realistic expectations, you're not going to get a $1000 worth of performance from a $500 computer. But it is a solid computer and can handle a lot.

This computer came defective. First, Sony's support told that was a BIOS setup problem. The computer had a lot of crashes (blue screen) and seemed to be not reliable to work with. I sent it back to Amazon.

Dell XPS XPS13-2501sLV 13-Inch Ultrabook

I have updated the USB drivers and I have no problems with this machine.

My wife who owns a Mac Air, commented that she likes the keyboard better than her Mac!

I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a laptop replacement or for an alternative to a tablet. I looked at several but felt that needing to add a keyboard for work was a little too much.

The battery life is excellent and after getting used to the Win 8 operating system.

If you need a light, powerful ultrabook, give this a look and good luck finding these with this type of configuration.

Have no issues with this product outside of the 3.0 USB hub not working on the first OR second ultrabooks.

I received this nice machine as ordered opened the box boot up and so far so good. Win 8 is actually a nice system but.... upon connecting a 16G thumb drive to load some data, no prompt from the computer that a device had been connected.

Contacted Dell support. They attempted to fix the software remotely with did not solve the problem.

I was informed that Dell would send a replacement via overnight shipping. This did come as promised.

Attached my USB devices.........nothing.

USB Hub was not functioning.

Have been informed that I will get a full refund which will show up in two billing cycles (?!).

So far, I have no complaints regarding Dell service. Their hardware? Well, I'm sure you know the answer to that. Don't want to go to Apple, but.........

I gave a three star rating because it is a nice machine but with usb connections not working maybe I should give it a lower rating.

After several months it's time to update my review.

I have had the mother board, daughter board and ubs hubs replaced TWICE!

The ubs hub on the left side still does not work and today the hard drive crashed!!

I have followed Dell's instructions, have had 2 service techs try to resolve the issue to no resolution.

I have spent the better part of two hours speaking to Dell support, getting bumped back and forth and told that my machine cannot be replaced even though I have purchased a 1 yr warranty !

I will tell anyone looking at purchasing this computer DON'T DO IT!!!! No wonder this company is falling apart.

I bought a 13" Dell XPS Ultrabook in February (2013) to replace another, older Dell laptop. From the first day there were problems drops internet, active window loses focus, USB ports don't work, etc.

To date, I've spent +20 hours on the phone with Dell support and with technicians who came to the house, first to replace the touchpad, then the motherboard and touchpad (on the first computer). Finally I found someone in corporate and complained enough to get a replacement. Unfortunately, this one is just as bad... and actually has more problems, including: left side USB port doesn't work, requires multiple reboots to actually start, drops internet connection regularly, back lit keyboard ambient sensor issues (active window loses focus).

I would very strongly urge anyone looking at a Dell product to look elsewhere.

I am a small business owner who has bought a lot of computers from Dell, both desktops and laptops and I have never experienced anything as bad as this. I'm done with Dell support and Dell products. Service is a joke and the hardware simply doesn't work as advertised. They are selling half finished products. I will keep trying to use this one and then I'll replace it with a laptop from another company.

I purchased my XPS13 in December 2012.

THE GOOD. The size is tterrific, the screen is great, the I7 processor is outstanding.

THS BAD. The keyboard is horrible. Do you see all tthe double spaces and duplicate lettters? That's not poor typing skills that's keyboard bouunce. You better have a greatt editor, otherwise what you write is going to look like tthis. The touchpad is unusable. When youu push the right button, it also acttuates the left button, and yyour screen goes nuts for 5 minutes. I had to buuy a USB mouse to use the lapttop at all.

In short, not the best $2000 I've ever spent. Until Dell figures out what's wrong and fixes it, I'd recommend to buy sometthing else.

This would be an AWESOME laptop if it would boot up. I was super excited to get this on Christmas morning. Turned it on and went through the typical set up. The dell diagnostic software advised that there were several updates that needed to be done so I let it do its thing. The BIOS update finished and said SUCCESSFUL and it rebooted. It hasn't booted up since then. I just get a black screen. No POST. I called Dell and spent 1 hour and 54 minutes on the phone with a tech support person. In the end, he proceeded in trying to convince me that Windows 8 needed to be reloaded and that he would send out a disk. This laptop doesn't have a disk drive. So then he told me that they would replace the motherboard. This is not a good resolution. It's brand new and cost me over $1400. I don't think I want to have anyone tearing into it and replacing parts already. So the tech took my number and said he'd need to speak to a manager and that he would call me back in 1 to 2 hours. I'm still waiting. No call. I realize it's Christmas day but they too should realize that this was a gift and I feel very badly that it isn't working. Kinda spoils the excitement of Christmas.

I love this computer. I have several Dells (1 desktop) (1 laptop) and an older Mac. I am amazed at the thinness and and the styling. The screen is beautiful (widescreen format). The keyboard is full size and the connectivity was incredibly easy. I absolutely recommend this computer.

I purchased this computer because I spend a great deal of time in the hospital and will continue to. I had one laptop stolen when I was taken out of the room for a test (about 20 minutes). I got back and it was gone...and it was an expensive one with all the newest tech (core i7, 16 GIG RAM, Blue Ray Player and much more).. I was lucky that my insurance replaced it and I had remote software on it so as soon as they turned it on near a hot spot, it wiped the hard drive clean. It even geo located where it was but by then who ever stole it figured out what was going on an dumped it.

I decided that for hospital stays i wanted an inexpensive computer and this one fit the bill. While the case is clearly plastic, it feels sturdy. The screen is really clear. 4 GIG of RAM and a 500 GIG hard drive. Separate numeric keypad, webcam...all the basics on a machine around today. It was also only around $400 total. Since I backup my PCs to the net, loading it up took less time than getting the preloaded mountains of trial software off.

If this laptop is closer to me than my more expensive one when I am home, I don't think twice about grabbing it to do any basic task from web surfing to typing (it has a very comfortable keyboard to type on raised "chicklet" style keys with a good feel and bounce back after being depressed. While it is only running an AMD dual processor (I prefer Intel quad core processors), the dual core processor in it is more than sufficient for the things I would use it for in the hospital like web surfing, watching TV, etc.

I would definitely recommend this computer to anyone. If asked I would say that it would be best used as a 1st computer (and expect that it would be around for a long time; as I said, it clearly is plastic but still feels well constructed) or a computer for school (if being used for college note that it doesn't have an HDMI output port to connect it to a TV which is becoming more common these days). But it has the overall power to do any reports or papers that need to be done. Keeping in mind that you'll need it plugged in somewhere because also like most of today's computers the battery life is about 2 hours. I have seen a couple ads for this computer claiming that can run up to 5 hours but don[t believe that for a second. Real world is about 2.

This SONY vaio is only 1/3 of the Macbook pro price. But it runs as fast as the Macbook pro.

I've been using the VAIO Z for 4 years now and they continue to impress me. I have to do a lot of programming, modeling/simulation, and statistics on my system and it performs extremely well. I change out every two years due to the critical need to stay with the best and lightest system to support travel and customer demos. On the previous two systems, I had to swap out the hard drive for more capacity in SSD form (first system had disk and second system had 120Gb). No changes had to be made with the current 1311. The portable blueray player was included in the package, so it acts as a nice docking station. I seldom use the drive, so I don't take it on trips. The extra power cord is convenient so that I can have my bag ready without disconnecting the portable blueray. The only downside I am aware of is that the portable does not support Win8. Everything else is running smoothly just like the previous 2.

Be careful when buying something from pcRUSH Outlet

I bought this product from pcRUSH Outlet.

The delivery was made in the address of my brother in law, in New Jersey.

My wife went to visit her brother and she would bring to Brazil the equipment purchased.

But the pcRUSH sent me a defective product and return it to the pcRUSH, They wanted to charge me a fee of 15% of the purchase amount, ie 15% of $ 2,852.39 = $ 427.85

We all get angry.

My brother in law called pcRUSH, and made the complaint. After that, pcRUSH agreed to make a exception and waive the 15% restocking fee.

At this moment, I had lost any confidence in the equipment sent by pcRUSH. If the built-in touch pad (mouse) was not working, I wondered what else might not work.

I had decided to buy other equipment directly from SONY store.

My wife and her brother were in a large SONY store in Manhattan, and for happiness of all, The SONY store offered us a better alternative that solved the problem.

Lack of Service from the seller. Laptop arrived damaged and when I contacted the seller he said I would be issued a partial refund of the money I paid. I tried all possible to obtain a refund. The seller lied and no replacement of replacement. I gave this seller 1000.00, however I only received 750.00. This seller was stealing from me and did not practice good customer service. A full refund or a replacement should of been offered. Neither was provided. The problem that laptop had was the CD tray did not open and was stuck. I am a computer technician and I explained that I was knowledgeable in all aspects of a computer. Be careful, this seller does not stand his products. The box it came in was not HP's box. It arrived in a plain box with no indication if was sold by an authorized dealer. Be careful since you are not guaranteed service for a computer which is damaged.

Well it's been two months since my HP ENVY dv7 has arrived. I have used it everyday and I LOVE it. At first I thought that Windows 8 would be difficult to get used to but this is not the case. The first thing you notice that is different about this laptop is that it uses fingerprint technology to log onto all of your sites. You just swipe your forefinger over the reader and you are logged on instantaneously. This is a great convenience and time saver. (Sometimes it does take two or three repeated swipes if your finger is not placed just right over the reader. No big deal.)

I have the backlit model and it's great if I'm sitting in bed at night with the lights out. Also, the computer boots up really fast. In less than a minute, you can begin working. So different from my desktop which loads and loads and loads. It takes forever before you can open a browser.

This replaces my Dell laptop which I had for a few years. It had an intel i5 processor. From a few months after I got it, the screen began to flicker and go grey and I would have to reboot it. So far, after two months of use, I have had not one issue with this laptop.

Dell Inspiron mini 9 - White

First off, I need to mention that I am a big fan of Linux and in particular Linux mint 6 (a version of Ubuntu) for it's free assortment of software and improved security over windows and OS 10. Linux lets me do everything I need to do with a computer such as Internet, office, bit-torrent, videos, and music. If it had software to let me use/sync my iphone to it's fullest I would probably never use windows again ... but I digress. I was in the market for an affordable netbook for my wife. All she uses a computer for is to word process, do email, and surf the internet. She isn't the most savvy internet surfer and I'm concerned when she shops online about her letting hackers gain access to sensitive financial accounts. I initially considered a mac but decided against it for financial reasons. The Eeepc was also a choice but the odd arrangement of the touchpad was a turnoff. After seeing a similar linux netbook made by Dell (with their great reputation), I was sold. The netbook was easy to purchase from dell with plenty of options and arrived promptly. It worked great right away and behaved perfectly. It has it's own flavor of Ubuntu 8.04 and made it easy for my wife to interact with it according to her limited needs. Eventually the Ubuntu automatic update kicked in and wanted me to update. Being a pc user this was not out of the ordinary since pc users are used to daily antiviral updates, firewall updates, spyware updates, and windows security updates ... so I updated. After the restart it would not start, oops! I also did not have an external dvd/cd drive, double oops and couldn't restore with the provided backup disk!! I called dell tech support but they told me that they did not support the os and that I should call canonical. Canonical said that they didn't have a financial arrangement with dell and would not be able to help me. Being used to making linux flash drives I tried to make a flash drive out the provided dell software ... didn't work. I checked online for the dell linux OS iso image but dell deleted it. I called dell and they were of little support and didn't know why the software was removed. Eventually I used an Ubuntu 8.04 flash drive and reinstalled the OS. I Could not get sound to work but my wife doesn't do music or youtube and was content so I stopped there. I tried a Linux mint 6 flash drive but even it with all it's extra drivers could not get the sound to work. Probably in time the necessary dell drivers will come out with one of the Linux versions and I'll try again. The purpose of this review is to let potential buyers know that dell will not support you if you go the Linux route. If you do you may have a lot of work to do on your own to get it running once it crashes. Lastly even if you have an external drive you probably will still not be able to restore the OS. ibooks are a great student computer. I have purchased one for each of my 4 children and never regretted it. Since it is an Apple I don't have to worry about accidental clicking that could cause viruses and with the Microsoft Office 04, the kids can easily transfer their documents and projects to any pc with Office. The iBooks have been very durable and an economical alternative to the pricey pc laptops. Now with Leopard, I can monitor my kids computer time, set child/computer bedtimes, view/limit and the websites and I don't have to pay extra for this it is built in. The kids like all the games and the ability to control their laptops with voice commands. I like that I can stay in control of my kids computers without being a computer scientist.

I've had a 12" iBook G4 since 2005 and it's still my favorite notebook for browsing the internet, writing letters, and even reading pdf's. It's very lightweight and I consider the screen the perfect size. It's held up very well. One of the keys has a hairline crack and one of the rubber feet on the bottom fell off but I clean it every month or so and it still looks almost new.

My only criticism is that it gets a little warm so I keep it on top of a clipboard when holding it in my lap. No viruses, no crashes, no worries.

When netbooks started becoming popular a couple of years ago, I had to laugh because I already have a lightweight, handy netbook. In fact, I'm using it right now to write this review. Given a choice between a new Asus or Dell netbook or a used iBook G4 for the same price, I would take the G4 without thinking about it for a second.

I got this computer about a week ago and in the beginning it was not working( error was showing), but i left it for a while and it WORKED~!... about 3 minutes). the laptop has exterior damages but it everything ran fine. its not the fastest computer out there .. but its good for taking notes, chatting (IM), and checking emails. the only problem i had was, when i try to download a programing cd it didnt work.( i didnt know the programming cd was for new computers tho, my fault). everything works! i say buy iT~! if you are only going to chat, take notes, check emails or download something!! but if you want to download parallel on the mac .. i recommend to get something else,( newer~!). BUT GREAT LAPTOP ~!

All in all it is a efficient product, but it didn't have the correct amount of memomry on the hard drive said to be 30 GB HD but it was a little over 10 GB HD I even tried to delete most of the apps and it came to 11.15 GB HD. Also, the battery drains quickly with in 2hrs I was at like 39% battery health, and finally it came with the old Mac OS X 10.4 you would think it would be updated to full capability. It was a good bargin but I don't feel I got what I paid for.

So I got the laptop and its a good thing I double checked everything before I gave it to my sis (she needed something she could take to school with her for minor projects and such) because it came with what must have been a different laptops charger. It wasn't even close to being able to plug in.. A laptop isn't much good if you can't charge the battery. Luckily the replacement charger only cost like 7 bucks from a different seller, so problem solved. Buyer beware because you might not get the right parts.

This is my third HP, so obviously, I like the brand. For the money, this is a great computer. I replaced a 17.3" seven-year-old Toshiba that was still good, but slowly dying, so I wanted something with a similar feel. The keys aren't squishy, so I can touch type easily. The screen is big and bright for my not-so-young eyes. The only sorta negative is the shiny black surface. With two cats, it shows their flying fur but it doesn't seem to pick up fingerprints, which is a plus. Have had it only a day, but so far no negatives.

Great laptop for the price runs smooth windows 8 takes a second to get used to but over all glad I made the purchase
