Sony VAIO E Series SVE15132CXB 15.5-Inch Laptop (Black)

Sony VAIO E Series SVE15132CXB 15.5-Inch LaptopI purchased my Sony Vaio from the Sony Store in October, but this is the same brand. Initially I was excited about receiving it. The keyboard is beautiful, the screen is wide, and the performance is quite strong. I only listed my title as it being a "good computer" because this is the first computer I've come across that battery depletes even when not in use and automatically stops charging and switches to battery usage even when plugged in. This will happen even if the battery is not fully charged. To this point this is the only big issue I have with the Sony Vaio.

Also, I read a lot of reviews about the hassles of the touchpad and I figured that maybe it just takes some getting used to. It does... The touchpad can be annoying at times and takes some practice to become familiar with it. Most times I have to click repeatedly just to be sure my option is selected.

Overall I will rate the Vaio E series an 8/10. It wasn't the fabulous computer I thought I'd be getting, but I'm quite pleased with it. I guess since the E series is aimed at people on a budget, what could I expect?

If your wireless drivers mysteriously break and are unfixable, as mine was, and you have to re-install Windows, you are in for a world of pain. Sony's site has drivers that will literally make your computer inoperable. I am on my third re-install now, first I downloaded a rootkit from Sony's site, then a battery program bundled with the VAIO control center hosed me. I will never buy a VAIO again.

I gave it one star because its a Sony, that's it. I had high hopes but windows 8 sucks, the mouse sucks, the computer shell sucks because all you see is finger/oil marks. I feel like it was made half-ass I really loved there previous laptops.

Toshiba Satellite P775D-S7360 17.3-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Platinum

Toshiba Satellite P775D-S7360 17.3-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Platinumthis laptop is freaking amazing! super fast and great performance. Once you download and update everything for it the machine is a monster and the integrated graphics card is the best in the market. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who is a AMD fan or not this whoops Intel's @$$. The Windows Experience Index are as following (rated on a scale of 1.0 to 7.9 with 7.9 being the best):

Processor: 6.6

Memory (RAM): 7.2

Graphics: 5.9

Gaming Graphics: 6.5

Primary hard disk: 5.9

these are outstanding scores for a laptop!

So over all for the price this laptop is at it's by far the best on the market highly recommended!

I purchased this Toshiba Satellite P775D laptop in mid-October and it's proven to be very fast perfect for what I do: email, research, internet. The 17.2 screen is ideal for me have watched dvds on it and the speakers are Harman Kardon and high quality. The keyboard is very easy on the hands and the laptop is extremely quiet. Had a minor problem about adjusting a setting and called Toshiba help line via phone who were very efficient and courteous and fixed the problem. I am very glad I made this purchase; I had ordered an HP laptop in September but returned it immediately because it had a defective keyboard. Amazon returns worked great. I would recommend this laptop.

I have always gone with the latest intel processor when I upgrade laptops, this time I thought I would try the AMD A8 due to great reviews and lower price. After 3 weeks of use I am pleased with this computer it runs everything I have loaded, too include games and has decent screen resolution. It has crashed once something I am not use to; might have been a windows issue? My only complaint is the camera Toshiba uses in most of its laptops, it is really bad, so if you do utilize a webcam you will need to purchase one, the one in this computer is horrible, even after adjusting the settings I think you would need a spotlight in the room for it to work. I did a lot of research prior to my purchase and I couldn't find a bigger bang for the buck. I have purchased a powered usb hub to accommodate all external devices.

Pros: quality, light for size, price for what you get

Cons: webcam, number of usb ports

Lenovo G585, AMD E2-2000 with Radeon HD 7340, 15.6" Screen Display, Notebook with 4GB Memory, 320GB

Lenovo G585, AMD E2-2000 with Radeon HD 7340, 15.6' Screen Display, Notebook with 4GB Memory, 320GB Hard Drive, Windows 8, Matte BlackSoftware: The Lenovo 'solution center' is one of the largest problems. It consumes so much in the way of resources. Kill it if it starts up. Windows 8? If you're a programmer who wants to look at all the optional stuff it probably looks great, which is probably why it ended up being what it is. If you're a user it's frustratingly cumbersome to use with too much crap you have to work through and more difficult to navigate to just about anything. I'll never update my XP computers if I have the choice. I'm going to see about switching this computer over to an open source OS. It can't be any worse and I don't care for mac.

Hardware: the computer is flimsy to a fault. It's designed to only be used in an ideal setting. If you use it on your lap or if it's slightly off flat any torsion on the computer will cause things to happen. That also doesn't bode well for the future durability of the product. The keyboard is very uncomfortable. too short to rest your hand on, too long not to. My conclusion is that Lenovo has turned to crap since the Chinese bought IBM.

me gusta esta pc es rápida y la tarjeta de video va de maravilla en realidad es un producto de excelente calidad

Lenovo G570 4334DBU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Lenovo G570 4334DBU 15.6-Inch LaptopI've owned this computer for about a month now, have had no problems at all, and am very happy with it. I'm writing this review with it, in fact.

The computer starts up quickly and runs just fine for me. I'd say it's typically ready to go in well under a minute. As others have stated, it does not come pre-loaded with a bunch of software. That may be a drawback for some folks, depending on what you're looking for. For me it works out great as I can add things later, as needed, without having to delete extra pre-loaded items that I never wanted to begin with. You do get a basic version of Microsoft Office including Word & Excel, as well as Google's Chrome and IE Explorer for web browsing. All of which fit my needs and have given me no problems.

As far the fingerprint issue that other people have mentioned, yes, the cover is a fingerprint magnet. I couldn't care less about that myself. The only minor complaint I might have is that the screen is reflective and can be a bit hard to see in the sunlight. But you can work around this pretty easily. But on a 1-10 Bothers Me scale, I'd rank the screen issue at about a 2. Meaning that I can easily live with it.

As for the computer feeling a bit cheap and plastic-y, as I think someone else may have said...about all I can say is, it doesn't seem that way to me. Hey, it's not a high-end computer. But it's not an etch-a-sketch either, you know? It more than does the job I ask of it, and I think it looks and feels perfectly fine while doing it. If that's an issue for anyone.

The keyboard and touchpad both work perfectly. The keyboard is surprisingly big for a laptop, at least to me, and is quite easy to use. The cooling vent is located on the side, and I've never had any issues at all with the computer getting hot, or even noticeably warm. Connection ports are located on both sides and easily accessible.

The DVD drive.....others have mentioned the bullet-like speed with which it opens. They aren't kidding about that. It pops out in a hurry, and unfortunately the button that opens it is fairly easy to hit by accident. Again though, this is a pretty minor issue.

Also, and again as I think other reviewers have said, the speakers aren't the greatest. They're not awful, but you may decide you want to attach some external speakers, or some earphones. I use a cheap pair of earphones I got at Wal-Mart for ten bucks, and they work great.

All in all, for under $500 you're getting a surprisingly good little computer. As someone else wrote, it may not be a $1,500 laptop, but it's not supposed to be. But if you're like me, after you've used it a while, you'll find yourself thinking that it's a heck of a lot better than it's price-point might lead you to believe. It's a very good value.

I would definitely recommend this computer to others.

Expecting great performance from this product is unrealistic. The laptop does have a surprisingly decent touch-pad which is always nice to have on a laptop. It is pretty pack for the price, and for less than $50 you can throw 4gb more of ram to help give it a further boost. It is also fairly light for a budget 15" laptop and has great battery life. My complaints on it would be the screen quality. The picture is not great and it does give off a lot of glare. Given the price, I can't really complain about the product. Consider it buying last years technology only new and cheaper (i.e. it runs USB 2.0 and not 3.0)

This is the 2nd Lenovo and 4th "IBM" laptop that I have purchased, all have been great and never died, just needed to update processors and features over the years. This one is perfect for the price and highly recommend it for students and home use. Waiting for another one to arrive and will see how that one is as well.

Well i will start by saying its built to a price and it kinda shows in some areas. my biggest concern is the plastic looking hinge for the screen...not sure how that will last, but for 450 you get a decent laptop.

The speakers sound noticeably small, the top surface is a fingerprint magnet and well the webcam is not the best but for this price i can't complain.

Well update if things fall apart....just giving Lenovo a chance :)

~Update 3rd April 2012~

Forgot to mention that the DVD drive kicks out with such ferocity...."look out", but even so it closes flush with the side of the system. The button on the drive is also somewhat recessed so pressing it without looking will take some practice.

Great value to get an i3 for $400 in a decent shell like this one. No it's not comparable to a 1500 dollar laptop but better build then a Toshiba we have. It is plastic (as you would expect at the price point) but it could be a lot worse. The lid just sits closed instead of been clipped which is not ideal. Layout is good with keys and plugs e.t.c. Screen is reflective but everyone is copying the apple shinny thing now days and the back of the lid shows smudges and finger prints if you just look at it.

Didn't come with a lot of bloatware and what it did come with was easy enough to get out. For the intended purpose we have (email, web browsing, downloading pictures from a p&s and very light word processing) it's reasonably fast. Extra memory is cheap and that would help but it's certainly not required unless your running something more serious. Battery life so far is quite good BUT the devil of that is in longevity so I expect it to crash like all my other laptops over time :-/

I hesitate to include this as an IT person I realise how little it means but will anyway. Like most laptops, it's hurt from the GP more then the other stuff with the cpu been better then I would expect. From the windoze experience thingi :-

ASUS K55A-XH51 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mocha)

ASUS K55A-XH51 15.6-Inch LaptopI received this afternoon. Perfect condition. By the way you will receive this with Windows 7 Pro not windows 8 as pictured. In the write up it says Windows 7 professional but shows picture of computer with windows 8 on it. I did not want the 8 and this is the reason I bought it before it was sold out. I hooked up to my wired network downloaded Nortonthen downloaded all my windows 7 updates , changed it to internet explorer 10 and even hooked it up to my Epson wireless printer. It was perfect effortlessly with no error messages at all. Extremely fast browsing downloaded pictures and videos from old computer using usb flash drive to this computer. Perfect. Very quiet computer. You can barely hear it . Sound is good. So happy I bought this . I am just a housewife. No computer expert at all. This computer walks you through it. With the windows 7pro it is easy to add another computer to your home network. Excellent screen resolution. Watched a movie on line. HD clarity. This met more than my expectations!

After multiple bad experiences with HP laptops, I vowed never again. Have now purchased my 3rd Asus laptop this year one for me, one for the wife and one for the kids. The last 2 have both been the model listed here, although unfortunately from another vendor (Newegg) where I ended up paying $50 more per unit than current Amazon price.

I really like Asus laptops and have found them easy to setup/use and very reliable. I noticed one reviewer complaining about the touchpad sensitivity, which perhaps results from that person not having adjusted the touchpad settings to his/her personal preference. I also found the factory default touchpad settings a bit hyper, but it was very simple to adjust settings.

This laptop has a maximum memory of 8GB with 2 memory slots, one of which comes empty from factory, so I also purchased a 4GB memory upgrade for this laptop (approx $40). Product ordered was: Kingston 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 Laptop Memory Model KVR16S11/4; works great!

I, like others, tried out Windows 8 on demo laptops at local retailers (only Windows they had available) and really hated it. So I was happy to find this laptop still available with Windows 7.

If you are put off by fingerprints on exterior, it is worth mentioning that the top of this unit is not the fingerprint-hiding textured surface as depicted in photos, instead it is a typical smooth surface. No big deal for me.

I have had this machine a little more than 2 weeks. From the beginning, there have been start-up and shut down failures. Asus has guided me through multiple hard resets and BIOS resets and now says I probably have a virus. One of the first things I did when I turned on the machine was to install and update Kaspersky. Kaspersky has never found a virus, trojan, network attack, etc., etc., etc. The resets are now a daily occurrence. I told the support fellow that the Windows 7 backup fails after the first DVD, but they are "not able to help with backup." If I had purchased this laptop from BEST BUY, I could simply walk in and exchange it within 30 days---with no questions asked. Amazon wants a 15% restocking charge to restock a defective laptop. I rely on Amazon as my first option for many items, both business and personal, but never again will I buy a laptop from Amazon.

Title says it all. I need a reliable machine and this is not it.

Everything feels cheap about this laptop. Keys, hypersensitive cursor, feel of plastic God knows what's inside.

After one day (and the expense of downloading Office), the machine has totally frozen up. I can't even force shut-down.

I try to get Asus tech support and they're nearly impossible to contact. I finally sent a note to them after their online 'chat' prompt said they'd be right with me and thanking me for my patience....for 45 minutes. The response to the note said they'd be back in touch in 48 hours.

HP Pavilion G7-2243us 17.3"Laptop (AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M CPU, 6GB DDR3 SDRAM, 500GB Hard Drive, AM

HP Pavilion G7-2243us 17.3'Laptop - Sparkling Black, Model B5Z58UAI also bought mine and Staples for use in my classroom and I love it! The Windows 8 is really neat for organizing the programs you have open. It's easy to manage. I use this computer and run 4-5 large programs at a time and it is extremely fast! The tech man at my school recommended this specific computer since it has a 4core and I'm so glad I went with this one. Plus the screen is large and very vibrant.

The Windows Update issue is related to a conflict between the sound drivers and one of the updates. Uninstall 2 sound drivers and run Windows update. The drivers will re-install themselves automatically on reboot.

I play Call of Duty Black Ops II in medium settings @45-60fps.

I have also played Battlefield 3 in medium-low settings just fine.(doesnt draw fps so i dont know extacly what fps)

I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 as well as Premiere and After Effects.

Plays 1080p video perfectly (my old computer couldnt)

Unless you are using a 3d program to render full 3d scenes i dont think you would have any problem for Video and photo editing, and light to medium gaming.

Also I use this computer paired with a Laptop Cooler (any). It brings the temp down about 10c and runs faster.

Also if you use something like Razr Game Booster, or something that will allow you to close down background services it will improve your gaming.

CONS:

Only thing I do not like is the screen. I edit photos and I feel if I dont have the screen at a perfect 90degrees, the colors and lightness/darkness in pictures changes. So I dont feel I can get an accurate edit of the photo.

Maybe I will upgrade to an HD monitor to pair with this laptop

This my first Windows 8 computer --purchased for my wife. I dislike Windows 8, she hates Windows 8. HP Support says you are stuck with Windows 8. You can not downgrade to Windows 7. They will sell you the Windows 7 disc but will provide you NO DRIVERS to support Win 7. You must get drives from the manufacturers of each of the components HP puts into the notebook. If you downgrade support and warranty are void.

So...it's good hardware and value. Beware before you buy-----love windows 8!

The keyboard of this laptop doesn't have a pause/break key. This means that ctrl+break doesn't work. When I called HP support they told me that HP hadn't provided for this function. No big deal to people who aren't programers but if you are running code and need to interrupt it or accidentally create an endless loop you have to stop the parent program using task manager--not the best solution.
