Acer Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz 3GB 160GB DVD±RW 15.4" Vista w/Webcam

Acer Core 2 Duo 1.66GHz 3GB 160GB DVD±RW 15.4' Vista w/WebcamI bought the Acer Aspire 5920 new back a few years back. Great feature set for the price. The keyboard has a rather cheap feel to it, but it is responsive and has a nice feel (although a little cheap).

It's a great laptop WHEN IT WORKS. Major problem with the internal soldering. Here's a rundown:

1.) After 6 months it would not power on. Dead to the world. Spent hours reading posts, trying the "reset" procedure, holding it upside down, reseating RAM, the freezer, etc. Called Acer and was told it was the motherboard.

2.) Gave up on it, figuring it was dead, tucked it away in the closet. Five months later while looking for something in the closet, I came across the 5920. On a whim plugged it in and it worked. It came back to life all on its own. Cool! How often does that happen?

3.) Then ended up getting about 2 years use out of it, until last Sunday, same problem. NO power, battery light not turning on. Took it to a local repair shop and they looked at it, surmised that something isn't seated properly onto the motherboard. Was told at that point laptops go back to their mfg. for repair. Acer repair is a flat $400. The Aspire 5920 has been out for about 3 years, (I bought mine summer '08). Not worth the repair cost whatsoever.

4.) Did a ton of research on new laptops out there. The Dell is enticing and speaks to the consumer in usnice options, glitzy marketing, nice package deals. However, all I could hear in my mind was the computer repairman telling me on my recent visit, "We love Dell around here; they keep us in business." The Sonys look great, awesome style, perhaps more of a vanity purchase? Then again Sony does have a great reputation, but not so great when it comes to their laptops.

5.) Decided to find the most RELIABLE laptop out there, so I don't have to go through this again; it's a real pain. Apple won but the price point is way TOO HIGH for the specs, besides I don't feel like converting all my software over anyway. Most reliable AND affordable PC laptop is the ThinkPad series by Lenovo. Lenovo bought out IBM's stake in the ThinkPad line, but the line is essentially still the IBM ThinkPad. Durable, dependable, a little conservative looking (they are intended for the business user, but mainstream consumers are catching on)... and surprisingly the price is outstanding, esp. on a special. Lenovo's IdeaPad line offers some nice packages, esp. for multimedia, but after lots of research I found that if you want durability, the IdeaPad is not up to the same build quality as the ThinkPad (IdeaPad is Lenovo, ThinkPad is a carryover from IBM).

6.) For $549 you can get a solid, quality product from the ThinkPad line of computers. While I have enjoyed the Acer, it is obviously not built well. Don't waste your $. Good luck!

Works like brand new and everything the seller said was true. Well worth the little bit I paid for it and the kids use it to do their homework and chat with friends and family

Lenovo® G570 (4334-9GU) Laptop Computer {Intel Pentium B960 Dual-Core Processor / 4GB RAM / 320GB

Lenovo® G570 Laptop Computer {Intel Pentium B960 Dual-Core Processor / 4GB RAM / 320GB HDD / DVDRW / WIFI / WEBCAM}Pros: bright screen, great keypad, good "entry level" speakers, fast enough for writing & web surfing

Cons: "clicking" sound from left hinge

I really only use my laptop for my writing assignments and to check email...This laptop is perfect for that. Some back story that would be helpful: This is the 3rd laptop I have purchased in my endeavor to find a replacement for my Toshiba Satellite which has lasted over 5 years. I bought and RETURNED another entry-level Satellite as well as a Gateway; long story short, they weren't better than this Lenovo.

As far as typing goes, it was/is bit of a transition to switch from a basic laptop keypad to one with the numeric keypad at the right something I've never had in a laptop. The good news is that my hand & finger placement on this laptop do not "feel" shifted to the left like they do on the Toshiba Satellite. And there is plenty of space for my large fingers.

2.2 GHz processor and 4 GB of ram is all I need for what I do. I don't "game" or do any heavy graphics editing on this laptop. The boot up is quick and applications start very quickly. I have noticed on the Toshiba that when I listened to music and opened other applications that the music would "stutter" or pause while the processor caught up with the application. That was NOT the case with this Lenovo and multi-tasking is effortless here.

As I stated above, I also like to listen to music when I work which can be a trial on most entry level laptops. The speakers on this Lenovo are really good way better than the Toshiba (sounded like cell phone speakers) and is as good or better than the Gateway. Remember, this is a basic laptop so you won't be able to jam out with big bass.

One thing that bugs me about this Lenovo: when you flip up the screen and push it all the way back, the left hinge makes this "clicking" sound. The sound repeats when you wiggle the screen back & forth at this point. I'm believe it's the "build" of the laptop and not a mechanical fault as I noticed it on the floor model. I can live with it, personally. I've never noticed anything like it on other laptops, but when you're buying in this price range, you have to take the bad with the good.

Overall, if this laptop will be for you, it will suit your needs if you'll be only doing the basic administrative type tasks. If you're purchasing this for a "gamer," it won't be powerful enough.

The laptop arrived very quickly and in good shape. It was packaged in the original Lenovo box with a Lenovo seal. We have been using it for a while and have had no problems. It was a replacement for my wife's old hp laptop, and she has been very satisfied with its performance.

11.6" MacBook Air 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 128GB Flash Storage, NVIDIA GeForce 320M

11.6' MacBook Air 1.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 128GB Flash Storage, NVIDIA GeForce 320MThe 2010 11" Macbook Air is truly revolutionary. Its amazing that such a tiny computer can be so powerful and useful.

I had a 2009 13" Macbook Pro. Its had a much faster CPU, yet when I timed all the typical activities I do on a computer, the Macbook Air came out on top every time. The reason? The screaming fast SSD makes more of a difference in my usage than the faster CPU.

Overall a great little machine. The display takes some getting used to because its a higher DPI, text ends up smaller. Ends up with lots of information packed into the screen. I've become used to it and like it. Its also handy that Lion has several handy ways to zoom, including option-two finger scroll, and double tap in Safari. Also command + will enlarge text in browsers. Lion also has full screen mode which can help.

At home, I plug into a 28" monitor to get serious work done. For my use the 4GB RAM upgrade was a necessity. It cannot be upgraded later. I went with the 128GB SSD which is the minimum I could live with.

I love that I have a powerful system and huge display when I need it at home, and a tiny ultra-portable that I don't have to worry about taking everywhere with me.

Only downside is the cost. Low entry price but the upgrades really add up.

Whats not to love!? This is a upgraded / maxxed 11" 2010 Macbook Air! Lean, mean, and a good value for the money.

The Dell M4400 I received was packed secure and easy to install the Windows 7 by following instructions. The only problem with the machine is the Nvidia M770 Video Driver put it in the laptop in BSOD mode often. I could not find

a good fix or solution other than just disabling the Nvidia driver and using the Microsoft onboard driver. I installed 4GB of

Crucial DDR2 PC6400 800mhz ram which helps. It came with only one stick of 2GB, with lower Mhz memory. This

helped with the Windows 7 and laptops performance overall. It is a well built good machine, which is good for performing business functions and even comes with smartcard. It was worth the price.

I had reservations about a refurbed laptop but this one has surpassed my expectations. Being a workstation with 3.06ghz C2D and dedicated graphics, I feel it has the performance of at least an I3 if not an I5 system. The physical condition is beyond what should be expected from a 3+ yr old unit. I had to look very closely to find even small dings or scratches...I am very pleased.

Was not sure to buy at first, but decided to give it a shot, especially when got a deal at $1150. Its fast. Very fast. It takes 15 seconds to start this machine. I tried to play 10 videos simultaneously in 10 windows, no problem here. The buttons on the board are nice, however sound button might be tricky.

About 10 month after the purchase battery started to heat up. I have sent it for battery replacement, which was replaced 2 month ago under HP's warranty. Works Great. Very satisfied.

It's fast and has a large memory. It DOESN'T have a Bluetooth transceiver so you need to plug in a separate device for devices. Sometimes the video driver crashes and flickers. The physical plastic covering cracks easily and the softkeys (the lit up buttons just below the screen are stuck).

Used Aluminum PowerBook G4/1.67 GHz, 1024 MB of RAM, 80 GB internal drive, internal SuperDrive, internal 56k modem, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth installed, 15' display, Certified Pre-Owned Mac with 90 day warranty, OS CD is not included, OS 10.4.11 installed, Classic Installedoverall I am disappointed in this machine. I bought it to help develop a travelogue blog while overseas, assuming that the large memory and multimedia functionality typical of a mac would suit. Additionally the price was great. What I found was that the machine was not loaded with pages/keynote et. al. That wasn't such a big deal as the primary purpose was to use the multimedia functions of the blog. I could not update anything on the machine, nothing., nada, zilch. I was not able to download Skype. Then the powercord shorted out in the middle of the trip leaving the machine useless to me. Unlike the US, not everywhere in the world is mindlessly attracted to the newest and latest Apple product, so replacing the cord was not possible. Overall, disappointed.

Acer Aspire AS5755-6699 15.6-Inch Laptop (Glossy Black)

Acer Aspire AS5755-6699 15.6-Inch LaptopI've only been using this laptop for a few days. But it's a winner. Great screen, speakers, keyboard, webcam, very easy to set up. Windows 7 is a snap to use. (I've been using Vista, before that XP Pro and XP.)The laptop comes with 4gb of ram. I ordered two 4gb. to increase the ram to 8gb. I found the upgrade here on Amazon for only $29. That's cheap enough. I would recommend Acer to anyone that wants a good computer that doesn't cost a lot of money.

After looking at laptops for several months I finally settled on this little beauty. This is my first laptop and I have fallen in love with it. I wanted a machine to use "Push 2 TV" with and kiss my cable bill goodbye and I did just that. Life is good! Caught this Acer on sale at Micro Center for $379 and I couldn't be happier. If you're thinking about this one, get it. You won't be sorry especially at $379.

I bought this laptop a year ago. My laptop died and I needed a new one quick. Money was tight and so I shopped around(big box stores, online, etc...) and I kept coming back to this one. I love this computer it exceeded my expectations. I waited a year to review because I feel this is the best way to measure how well an electronic device works. It's easy to write a good review 3 days after you bought something when it is still shiny new. This laptop took a beating and still runs prefect, not one issue. I use it for work and school everyday for at least three hours at a time. Acer makes a great product at a great price. Don't let the low price fool you this was well worth the $500. I ran ArcGIS 9.3 (full version)right out of the box no problem. I also used it for class on 3d game design and 3d online worlds, not one hiccup.

I bought this as a cheap stop gap measure to get me by till I got a better laptop and never traded-up.

Buy This laptop.

I picked this laptop up for $400 on Amazon as a gift for my mom. I spent a few hours setting it up for her before hand and I have to say for the price I'm really impressed. Things could be better namely the screen isn't very good, it gets washed out very easily, but it's not terrible.

As long as you set your expectations accordingly you'll be very happy with it. As stated, the screen isn't great, there's no backlit keyboard, and specs aren't blazing fast but that's not really something you can expect in a laptop under $500. What it does offer that a lot of others don't is USB 3.0 (most will have only 2.0), Intel Core i3 (most will have either Pentium D or AMD) or Intel WiDi. It's really impressive to find that in a laptop so cheap. To really improve the problem specs (screen namely, maybe hard drive speed/size) the laptop would likely have to cost double.

All in all, very pleased. Acer bloatware was minimal and easily removed too. I probably had it all cleaned off and installed with the software she'd need in under 2 hours.

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5184 LaptopReceived that laptop in it's original factory packaging. Backlit keyboard is awesome, (but it doesn't work with Linux yet, oh well). I was going to put an SSD hard drive in it to match my media server's speed, but with the i5 2nd Gen, I can almost say that it's just as fast even with the mechanical HDD! Keyboard is always cool to the touch, and the mouse responds accurately. Battery power got me through a whole weekend in Chicago with power to spare. All in all, I'm impressed with the speed and the usability of this laptop!

I've had this for a few weeks and it is working great. I don't use the number pad and I've had to get use to it but I knew that coming in. I like the speakers and it's much faster than my old one. It was a good purchase.

ASUS G46VW-BHI5N43 i7-3630QM 3.4GHz GTX 660M 8GB RAM 750GB HDD Windows 8

ASUS G46VW-BHI5N43 i7-3630QM 3.4GHz GTX 660M 8GB RAM 750GB HDD Windows 8G46VW is a powerful 14' laptop, especially for those gamers. The dual vent really help to keep it cool, and the seller could offer free IC DIAMOND on CPU and GPU, that may benefit the thermodynamic performance. The only thing I should concern may be the battery, it is not user-removable, so I have to use it carefully to maintain the battery life.

This is a very good computer for the price..especially with the specs it comes with. The only downfall is the 1366x768 screen..but at the same time for a 14inch screen it isn't a deal breaker you can always hook it up to a tv or monitor since you have a 2gb GTX 600m.

-Great computing power for games

-Windows 8 (Pro for me, may be a con for others)

Samsung - All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i3 Processor / 23" Display / 6GB Memory / 1TB Hard Drive

Samsung - All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i3 Processor / 23' Display / 6GB Memory / 1TB Hard DriveThis computer is a beauty. Just to look at it is awesome. I purchased this computer for my Salon/Dance school and it does the job I got it for. Videos look awesome and music sounds loud and crisp. If I had the extra money I would buy another one for my home. It being a touch screen is the icing on the cake. Best investment I made for my salon. Thanks Amazon and Samsung for such an awesome product.

We have two of these. This is a good computer, IF you are not going to rely on the touchscreen.

The touchscreen is not very responsive and not always accurate. I thought perhaps these computers are all like this until we bought a Sony All-In-One. Although SONY has poor customer service, the touchscreen is very responsive, not as good as iPad, but quite useable.

The ELO Touchscreen utility that comes with the Samsung can't do much with the sensitivity of the touchscreen. You have to push down quite hard and sometimes hold it briefly for it to work. It is a TOTAL DRAG to use the touchscreen; you will probably never use it again after trying it for one minute.

The LED screen is super thin and beautiful. However, you cannot raise the monitor; you can only alter the angle of the monitor.

Like the all-in-one design and space saving feature it offers. Not a big fan of the touchscreen feature (Windows 7), but I'm old school...still like the mouse/keyboard option. Only issue unresolved is that it loses internet connectivity when the PC goes into sleep mode; this may be a simple adjustment in the power settings but I haven't explored this yet. Overall, satisfied with the product. Seems well built, hope to get a few years out of it.

Dell Inspiron N5030 iN5030-1723OBK 15.6-Inch Laptop (Obsidian Black)

Dell Inspiron N5030 iN5030-1723OBK 15.6-Inch LaptopI had tried to order this laptop with the 10 key layout version, but was told it had been sold out. We opted for this one and it is a good laptop for our needs. We had a copy of windows office that we installed, because it only comes with a bare bones trial version, hence the price.

I can have Excel, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media player all working at same time without problems. Or my daughter can play games online and it works fine. Not great, but fine.

It burns DVDs and has a webcam for Skyping. So it has almost all the stuff, just not the 10 keypad. Battery life is good. For a regular user this is a solid laptop for the price.

I like the new laptop. Always had good service from the Dell desktop we had. Had a Toshiba laptop but it was junk from the get-go. The Dell is plenty fast for my needs web surfing, e-mail, a few spreadsheets, etc. A couple of complaints I adjusted the touchpad but it still seems way too sensitive. Also could do without McAfee popping up every little while warning me of how much danger I'll be in once the 30 days of protection expire.

Overall I'm very satisfied. It was an easy set-up out of the box and so far does everything I need it to do and very well.

i will have to say this is the worst laptop i have ever owned. i had a problem with it after about a month of owning it. some of the keys would stop operating at random times. the two buttons used to navigate the mouse totally quit working. so, i have to double click the touch pad to be able to do anything, which is a pain because it calls for 3 or 4 clicks. i had to buy a wireless mouse to be able to navigate effectively on the computer. my main complaint i have is about a week after owning the laptop it wouldn't charge at all. it would say the electrical current is low and it would operate slow if i plugged it in. come to find out, i have to have it in the same place every time i plug it in and the laptop to charge. which is about a 20 minute task each time i want to charge my laptop. the charger is a circular one so i had to spend about 3 hours finding the location that it will charge in order for me to mark the location. all in all, a really awful buy and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone ever.

I bought this laptop because it was cheap and it did all the basics that I needed it to do for school. However, a cheap price got me a cheap quality laptop. Within a year, the battery completely died and I can no longer be mobile with my laptop. For a $300 laptop, the battery is $60 some dollars. I wasn't happy about that. The mouse is also tricky. It's extremely sensitive. It will also randomly stop working completely and I have to get a secondary mouse to plug in until it works again (usually within a minute). This laptop is fine for someone that needs it until they can afford something better. It is fairly fast, at least it is in my opinion. Also the design is neat, but it's too cumbersome for someone who wants to be very mobile. It's heavy and thick, especially for its time. The webcam is not very good either. In fact, it changes the colors in the picture to something completely different. I'm not sure why. I've messed with the settings, but nothing helped. Mine is almost two years old and I'm already searching for a new one.

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5380 15.6-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Platinum

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5380 15.6-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in PlatinumOkay, so I am one of those people that is EXTREMELY nervous when buying expensive things. The computer, happily, turned out to be a fantastic deal for what I got. The computer, most importantly is quick, don't worry, the first time you turn it on it may seem slow, but that is because it has a lot to set up, it only gets faster and faster. It came pre-loaded with google chrome and internet explorer pinned to the bar. As well as Toshiba Book Place and Toshiba App place. Both are pretty cool tools. It also comes with Microsoft 2010 Trial Program; I already bought Microsoft 2010, so I just typed in the product key. The key board is pretty cool, the keys are now back lit, but the mouse pad has a pretty bright light, as well as the lights above the keyboard (system control panel). It is a Windows 7 computer, has intel CORE i5, is energy star approved (energy friendly and shuts down to sleep to conserve engery. very nice. It is very asthetically please, which its chrome/black like finish. It has a premium sound system, and it sounds surprisingly good. It also has a very nice resolution and video quality. There are 4 USB slots (one of which is USB 3.0 sleep and charge), I like that. OH and a side note whenever you move the computer, a notification (which can be turned off) pops up saying that the hardrive has been moved to "safeplace" while it is being moved around too much. Cool feature, in case you are being to rough with it to prevent damage to the hardrive. There is also a security lock slot, a DC-IN, Optical disc drive, Microphone/Line-In jack, Headphone jack, Cooling Vents, RGB Port, Network Port, and HDMI Out Port. I really like that there is a seperate number pad off to the side, that happily, does not take away from the good size of the keyboard. It comes with a 1 year standard warranty by toshiba and a $10 dollar eMusic card (around 20 songs). I am really glad I got this computer, very nice, fast, easy to set up and understand. I recommend this to anyone looking for a great laptop for their money. Feel free to ask any questions, I WILL ANSWER :)

I purchased this Toshiba Satellite laptop as a birthday present to myself a few days ago and am not disappointed. This is my favorite computer among the MacBook and laptops that I own. This computer is the most powerful of all, and the 2nd Generation i5 processor is fantastic. The graphics display on DVD and Netflix videos is excellent and the harman/kardon speakers are awesome! Overall I am pleased so far with the operation of this laptop and the specs included are impressive for the cost. Also, the laptop cover is handsome and has interesting ridges that will hide potential scratches well. Please feel free to post questions. I will answer them if I can.

When my Dell Inspiron died, I used my husband's Toshiba S655 for a few days and realized how much I'd been missing. Amazon's offer of 12 monthly payments without interest charge enabled me to talk my husband into letting me order this one, and it arrived today. Setup was super easy, download of my current antivirus program and other things I needed to install went without a hitch, this thing is awesome!!!

Should I experience any problems down the road I will add comments, and I'll add an update as I get more familiar with the machine. But so far, so GREAT! And it hasn't gotten hot at all after several hours of work on it already, whereas the heavy Dell always needed a fan underneath and still blew hot air.

This laptop is a lot of bang for the buck, go for it!

I once was a big fan of Toshiba and its customer service. Not after my last two laptops. We bought this laptop for our son. Five months after the purchase, the operating system just shut down. I used a Linux startup disk to get to the hard drive to grab copies of his summer term papers. But the Toshiba rescue disks would not boot up -even though the Linux disk did. So Toshiba charged me $25 to ship the laptop to their repair facility. The repair facility tells me that the operating system is corrupt and that is not covered by the warranty. So they wanted another $25 to reinstall the operating system. And I am almost 100 percent sure this crash was NOT caused by a virus or spyware. I used to work someplace that cloned hard drives for our computers, and often the clones were crap and only worked for a short while before crashing. I think this is exactly what happened with this Toshiba, and they charged me to fix their defective product. I want the quality, customer-oriented Toshiba I knew in the early 2000s, not this passive-aggressive company that seems to think if the customer is unhappy it is the customer's fault.

UPDATE: The "new" Toshiba hard drive has crashed again, less than three months after the "repair." I'm not even bothering with Toshiba this time. I'm taking it to a local shop as if it never had a warranty. Why would I pay them another $50 to do another "warranty" repair.

I purchased this computer because I had an older one that lacked a web cam, and thought I'd just go ahead and purchase a new one and link the two computers. Firstly, the web cam picture was extremely blurry. Secondly, I was unable to link the two computers because the instructions were so confusing. But worst, it is impossible to get Toshiba customer service representative on the telephone. I got recordings, day after day, that because of the holidays their reps were busy but there was no holiday. And unlike companies that realize that they have long hold times and offer to call you back when someone is available, Toshiba just leaves you hanging, which runs up your cell phone bill.

I returned it, and spent $99 on an amazing, crisp, easy to use web cam. And by the way, Amazon was wonderful about the return. I recommend them!

ASUS K50AF-X1 15.6-Inch Versatile Performance Laptop (Black)

ASUS K50AF-X1 15.6-Inch Versatile Performance LaptopThe Asus K50AF-X1 is a solid performing laptop with a very reasonable price tag. The dual core AMD processor and 4 gigs of ram make windows 7 perform well, even in the Aero environment. Additionally, the ATI dedicated video card enables this laptop to perform decently on modern games such as Left 4 Dead 2, Split/Second, etc. However, it's not a miracle machine, so bear in mind you will have to run some of these games on medium/low graphics settings. However, it certainly runs rings around any laptop using intel's onboard graphics. Burnout Paradise runs flawlessly at maximum settings with high framerate. To get any better gaming performance out of a laptop, you would have to break the $1000 barrier, possibly even going into the 1200-1500 dollar range. When I bought this laptop, it was on sale here at amazon for $550, and it has proven itself an astoundingly good deal.

Win7 boots pleasingly fast, and the install is relatively clean. It does come with some proprietary asus software loaded, but very little of it is memory resident, and what little IS is actually pretty useful, such as the on-the-fly ability to change between four power useage settings. The laptop also has the option to use facial recognition software as a login alternative (via the built-in webcam), but this is mostly just a cool convenience gimmick and adds no real security features. I am at a bit of a loss as to why Asus decided to partition the 500 gig hard drive into two logical drives, but that's a minor gripe I suppose. The built in microphone performs acceptably for voice chat. The button on the optical drive is protected by a protrusion just above and below the button, which I suppose helps prevent accidental pressing of the eject button, but it also means you pretty much have to get in there between the protrusions with a fingernail to press the button in far enough for the computer to realize you want to eject the disk.

I also don't particularly care for 16x9 aspect ratio displays (I prefer 16x10), but I suppose that's what all the laptops are going to these days.

Pros:

Very competitively priced

Good graphics performance for the price range

Decent sound for a laptop

Large hard drive

Good keyboard, with good layout

4 USB ports, two on each side

No plugs in back

Wireless N and ethernet jack both

Cons:

High reflectivity on display

High gloss case gathers fingerprints/smudges like crazy

touchpad uses "multiple finger touch" to scroll instead of having a scroll zone at the sides of the touchpad, which can be a little slow to respond

No HDMI out (does have VGA out, however)

Minor gripes:

A little annoying to push the button to eject optical drive

16x9 aspect ratio (1344x768)

Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase.

i decided to get this laptop since the price seems pretty good after the $150 off.

Pros

Keyboard is well-made

Screen. Bright and easy to read.

Asus FastBoot Program lets you choose which programs load during startup and which load after. Speeds up the boot quite a bit.

Speaker audio quality is pretty good for a laptop

Cons

Case is a fingerprint magnet.

Web cam is low res and has difficulty in low light (haven't tried different drivers yet).

I've also been playing games on it. so far the frames i get (with fraps on) are as follows:

StarCraftII Beta 30-32 fps on med-high settings

World of Warcraft 35-60 fps on high (depending on what you're doing)

League of Legends 25 fps on high, 33 on med

CoD Modern Warfare 2 25-26 fps on med

F.E.A.R. 2 35 fps on med

Left 4 Dead 2 33 fps on med-high

Overall recommended for the price point. wasnt expecting it to be able to play games so well but i was pleasantly surprised. I'd give it a 4.5/5.

Buy ASUS K50AF-X1 15.6-Inch Versatile Performance Laptop (Black) Now

Yes, I knew before hand of the poor battery life, which is ~2 hours, in power saving mode. This was not the issue. My biggest concern was with the wireless ability, as my download speeds would constantly fluctuate, often times pausing altogether. The laptop also rebooted twice randomly while I used it throughout the night. These two issues are unacceptable, so I promptly spoke with customer service, was given a return shipping label, and purchased this item instead:

On the plus side, the build quality seemed to be very good, and it did run cool and quite. The aforementioned problems were problems too significant for me to ignore.

I received this computer not too long ago, and have been very happy with my purchase. There are a good amount of features on the computer, especially for the price. I particularly like the versatility and balance of specs, the Altec Lansing speakers (more on these in the edit), and that it has an actual graphics card. The one-year accidental damage warranty and the "IceCool" technology that keeps your hands/ wrists cool as they rest on the computer while you type or use the touchpad are certainly nice, too. Speaking of the touchpad, it is a pretty good one in my opinion, and I am fairly picky with these... It doesn't have the scroll pad on the side, but it has a "multitouch" function that allows you to scroll by touching the pad with two fingers. These are the features that stand out to me the most.

I don't have strong cons to the computer really... The hard drive is only 5,400 RPM, and of course I would have like to heave seen 7,200 RPM instead. I honestly don't perceive any real delay, though. If I did intense 3D graphics, there may be a noticeable one, but I believe that just partitioning the drive to have a small, quickly searchable sector will make just about and hard drive work reasonably fast. The keyboard will take a bit of getting used to and Windows 7 has some odd quirks (My screen saver would not come on when I purchased the computer; checking the box to ask for a password upon awakening apparently solved the problem). This is obviously a problem with Windows 7 and not the computer.) The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to but is actually pretty good... Certainly a bit different, though.

The Turion II is another matter of discussion with this computer, because many people are discrediting it for the reported clock speeds from independent reviews. This chip has a lot of features that make it a quality processor though, like the integrated memory controller. The Turion II certainly handles the GPU in this computer better than a comparable Intel (...I would rather have this Turion II in this system than many others, including some Core 2s, though a Turion II Ultra with double the cache carainly would have been nice. I give this computer 4.5 stars overall... Bottom line: the features are great for the price. I haven't seen another computer that has this combination of features in the ~$600 range.

****EDIT Notes**** I have used this computer much longer now and got to experience the problem with the low Audio. The speakers, even if you get SRS Premium Audio Sandbox (SRS's own software) to utilize these SRS speakers, is still mediocre at best. I played with it for a little while and was satisfied, but came back with some Jazz tunes and they sounded horrible if the effects were turned up enough to hear. If the effects weren't turned up, then hearing more than a faint melody would be near-impossible. For this reason, I knock this computer down another half star to 4 overall. It is a great computer, but the speakers are not as good as advertised, even if you buy software to utilize the speakers better; Also, throwing in a Turion II Ultra or triple-core Phenom II for a higher-end AMD based system would have been really nice, in my opinion.

The computer I traded this in for: Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036 LED TruBrite 14.0-Inch Laptop (Black)... It is similar, has a slightly worse graphics unit, but the M880 shipset with the Phenom II processor make for a decent GPU that actually ranks a bit better than the one in this ASUS. The Phenom II or the Turion II Ultra were my two choice processors for this replacement, and I decided to go with the 1.8ghz Phenom II. I am definitely happy so far!

I have had great luck with ASUS in the past, however this product failed to perform. Shockwave/Flash player errors upon arrival, a BSOD during initial setup, and no luck attempting even simple fixes for the product. 85 windows 7 updates later, it still failed to perform both functionally and at the level I would expect of a laptop with this parts list.

Eee PC 900 Ubuntu mini laptop

Eee PC 900 Ubuntu mini laptopThis is a great computer to take to a hotel.... It is not meant for solid home use; the keyboard is too small, and the memory isn't great.

You can actually use the keyboard, but I do find myself pecking with one finger a lot, which is why I didn't give it a five star. The speed is pretty fair, and the wireless connection is awesome. I can get a signal in a room that I could not get on my wireless laptop, which makes it a nice little computer to use in my bedroom if my husband is on our main computer. I previously had no way of connecting to the internet in that room, but thanks to this computer and our wireless system, I can.

It was easy to set up (almost no set up required), easy to figure out, for this novice, and easy to connect to the internet. The Linux, which the salesman warned me about, and my teenager told me I would hate, was not an issue at all. It doesn't take any prevous knowledge of how to use linux. It was easy to connect to the internet at the hotel and at home.

It serves my purpose perfectly (throw in a back pack to take on vacation to connect to the internet). I haven't really done anything with documents. It doesn't have a lot of memory or a place to put a dvd..., but you can use a card... for memory and add an external disk drive. I wouldn't want to type a whole lot on it. It is best for net surfing, checking e-mail..., but like I said, you can use the keyboard. It just takes a little more effort than a full size.

I bought a little mouse to go with it, and it is handy dandy! I also like the little neoprene or whatever it is called cover (quite awesome). It is great protection for it. I put the mouse and cord in a little make up bag and throw in my back pack with it.

This little computer is perfect for portable and convenient use. It starts up in about 30 seconds, which is faster than most computers. The operating system, Linux, is surprisingly easy to use, and I have never used a Linux operating system before. The computer comes loaded with a word program, spreadsheet program, and presentation program, all of which are similar to Microsoft's office programs. The battery power is awesome, and lasts for hours on end, even after 8 months of daily use! The screen may be a bit small, but the color and clarity is excellent. Web browsing and E-Mail is very fast and user friendly, and pages are very easy to see and read. It also comes with games, calculator, music player, photo viewer, and a video player. All applications work seamlessly, and the machine has plenty of power and speed for multi-tasking. I would highly recommend this computer for anyone looking for a small, compact, portable, and powerful machine.

This computer wouldn't let me upgrade Firefox and broke after about a month and a half of using it. It also often crashed whenever a webpage was fully loaded.

Great little computer ruined by Windows installation. I have two. The Linux version was sweet. The Windows version is slow and problematic (constantly runs out of virtual memory).

Dell Inspiron 15 i15RM-3415SLV 15.6-Inch Laptop (Moon Silver)

Dell Inspiron 15 i15RM-3415SLV 15.6-Inch LaptopI absolutely love my new Dell Inspiron with Windows 8. It was easy to set up and has so many great features.

I thought it was a good deal, but just one week after start for two times, it cannot come to normal working state after "sleep" for a few hours, just keep blue screen with only mouse! I can only force restart by power button, which is not good! Now I cannot use sleep function because I cannot figure out what problem it is. That's unexpected for a brand new computer!!!
