Dell Black 15.6" Inspiron Laptop PC with Intel Core i5-450M Processor, 640GB Hard Drive, 4GB Ram an

Dell Black 15.6' Inspiron Laptop PC with Intel Core i5-450M Processor, 640GB Hard Drive, 4GB Ram and Genuine Windows 7 Home PremiumThis laptop has done wonders for me, I love the ability to run multiple applications at once while surfing the web and being on skype at the same time! It blows my mind how great the sound is from the laptop. Personally I use it more like a desktop. Its power and RAM are unmatched in its weightclass. The other people reviewing this must not know a good computer when they see it. I personally usually don't like Dell's. But this one has changed my mind. The system has lasted me 6 months so far with no problems. I often connect it to my big screen tv via HDMI and the picture quality is awesome. Watching movies is a delight with this machine. The only suggestion I have is that the power cable not have a blue LED light on it. It does not shut off unless you unplug the cord. Quite annoying if the laptop is next to your bed! Great overall product, would purchase again for friends or family.

I bought a few of these for our office and we have all enjoyed them a great deal. Our IT guy has had to format and reinstall the system on my computer (because while surfing for architectural inspiration online; I found myself on an infected website that kept popping up ads for discount cigarettes, randomly)and he was able to do it without recovery disk using the partitioned drive recovery. He also created a recovery CD, for the office, from the partitioned drive just as an extra precaution. We all like being able to move around more with these laptops and not having to worry about the battery dieing after 30 minutes away from our desks.

It has also proven to be more powerful than our old desktop computers running memory drinking software like Autodesk's Revit, AutoCAD, 3DS MAX, and Adobe's CS5. It can't replace massive $30K super processing PC for rendering realistic HD video, but it can handle renders along the line of the movie "Over The Hedge".

I purchased a dell that came with preinstalled hardware, when I had to purchase a new drive. I ordered the disk and Dell wanted to charge me fifty dollars for the installation code after paying for the disk. I do not recommend Dell, this is the only computer I ever bought in the past. I now have a MSI desktop and I love it! NO MORE DELL!

Stay away from anything made by Dell. I have owned several Dell computers in the past but bought my last one 3 years ago.

Dell does not understand the concept of customer service as it relates to getting one of their computers fixed. The last Dell computer took me 30 days and over 15 hours on the phone to get fixed. I talked to nearly every Dell employee from India to the Phillipines. Dell has no idea on how to take care of their customers in a fast, professional way.

I had the "extended warranty" and received awful service. I can't imagine what would happen if it were out of warranty.

HP, Sony, even Lenova are of better quality and you know the service level you will receive.

ASUS Laptop Intel Core i3 370M 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 5000GB HDD, DVRW, 15.6", Windows 7 Home Premium 64

ASUS Laptop Intel Core i3 370M 2.4GHz, 4GB DDR3, 5000GB HDD, DVRW, 15.6', Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit, WIMAX, BlackI bought this computer as a floor model from Best Buy almost 6 months ago for $459 and I have to say I've got no major complaints. I primarily bought this for web browsing, Microsoft Office, editing photos in Picasa and my iTunes library. I have had 30 windows open, run iTunes in the background and was typing a document and it could handle it all without lag. I have even run Adobe Photoshop CS3 and it does alright as long as the projects aren't too complicated. I did try the photomerge function (in Photoshop CS3) with 20 photos and then the program finally choked. All in all, if you're looking for web browsing, streaming netflix, a computer for your iTunes library and some basic photo editing with Picasa then this is a pretty darn good computer for the value. I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or graphics work. Also, the speakers are pretty quiet so you'll definitely need to invest in some speakers. I picked up a pair of compact USB Insignia speakers so I can travel with them and they work a charm! I would definitely recommend this computer to someone.

I bought this computer for myself from best buy and was very satisfied with all the features,it's speed and ease of use. The only problem(which was a major prob at the time)was every time I was using it and closed the computer(which would normally put it in sleep mode)it would make a VERY LOUD siren like sound. I, nor my computer programmer coworker could figure out what was the problem. I ended up taking it back and exchanging it for the model higher once the store reps could not figure it out either. Low and behold it continued to happen with the new computer as well. I was just about to write ALL Asus computers when I accidentally found the issue. Go into the sound settings and lower the mic playback volume and it will fix the whole issue permanently. Whew....I wish that was in the instruction manual but oh well. Other than that, two thumbs and a toe up for this computer. I just bought one for my nieces birthday.

I have always been a fan of ASUS. I own the G51JX-A1 laptop for gaming purposes, but this was not a very practical laptop for transportation. I wanted to stick with ASUS and find a cheap, reliable laptop to carry around with me, so I decided to purchase this product. I was very disappointed.

The specs were great; an i3 processor running at 2.4GHz, 4GB of DDR3 Ram, 500GB HD, a descent sized screen at 15.6", and W7. Fantastic. Price was good, yet it was a refurbished laptop. I generally stay away from anything that is used/refurbished, but I decided to give this a shot. I regretted it. The computer would have a freeze attack every 5 seconds or less. There was not a moment in which I could even move my mouse cursur from the desktop to the start button without the computer freezing. I updated all of the drivers and this did not help the issue at all.

I gave the product two stars because of the easy return. I got a full refund with shipping paid for. However, the product itself was terrible.

HP Pavilion dv6-7010us 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

HP Pavilion dv6-7010us 15.6-Inch LaptopCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program The HP Pavilion dv6-7010 laptop computer is top-notch and will make an excellent gift for the college bound student or budding writer. It has stylish midnight black aluminum casing and boasts a 15.6 inch wide screen that is suitable for most users. It's large enough for good graphics without being too bulky or heavy to carry in a case while traveling, although it might be a bit large for comfortable use on an airplane. The color resolution is brilliant in full HD 1080p (pixel resolution 1920 x 1080) thanks to the AMD Radeon HD 764G, which might not be sufficient for hardcore gamers, but is appropriate for playing video games at optional lower settings.

The keyboard is an HP standard design with a numeric 10 key added on. The keys feel nicely weighted and firm, with generously sized touch-pads. The processor is an impressive AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M with generous memory: 6GB total. Paired with the Radeon video card and 3060 MB graphic memory, the HP Pavilion dv6 will support Photoshop, CorelDRAW, AfterShot Pro , and your other favorite creative software programs. The operating system is Windows 7, Home Version. The system powers up and is ready to work in about 30 seconds.

This laptop computer features Beats Audio technology great sound quality, with a sub-woofer fitted on the underside of the laptop.

There are four USB ports for connecting external devices, or for adding a standard or wireless mouse, if you don't care for the touchpad style pointer. Also notable is the lock option on the touchpad.

There is surprisingly little bloat-ware installed on this laptop. It comes with adequate software programs such as Microsoft Office 2010 starter (with the option to purchase the full version), Evernote, Blio and Skype. Unfortunately, the anti-virus Norton is in trial version, but that is commonplace with new computers.

The quality is exceptional and I expect this HP laptop to last and deliver the same standard of excellence I have received with my older HP PC, which has given me years of reliable service.

I only got my dv6 today, but I've delved into it and spent several hours updating and tweaking it, all the while debating whether or not to return it. I was initially impressed by the capabilities of the built-in speakers, the fingerprint recognition, and the high definition display, which handled a few PC games with no visible lag on decent visual settings. Right out of the box, it was a keeper.

But then I downloaded "important updates" from Microsoft, which have now caused all my games to crash upon launch, due to an inexplicably missing graphics driver. I've continued to download updates for the better part of the few hours I've had the computer, all the while wondering if I'll have to start all over again due to overheating. It's already reset twice for this (in less than 24 hours of use, mind you), and I've only used it on my desk or lapboard and it resets without warning and without any noticeable physical heating underneath. For a computer that advertises its intelligent cooling technology, and having just traded up from a laptop that never overheated in five years of use, that seemed a bit odd. I would rather not have to buy more accessories to fight such a glaring and vital issue, especially after having shelled out the money for the computer itself. I mean, what good is a laptop if you have to constantly worry about that, and if you must carry around cooling devices to prevent losing work? And I know that there was that checklist on the product description page, but the image with which we've been provided actually has the Blu-Ray Logo on the disc drive. Yes, the description is there, but it's a bit misleading the way it's all set up.

I'm still on the fence about this purchase. It has impressive capabilities, especially for this price, but the overheating is a gigantic issue, and I'm still trying to figure out what happened with these updates that has prevented me from doing what I could do before I installed them. I'll stick with it for a few days longer and see if I can't work everything out.

UPDATE: The issue has been resolved, thanks to the easy-to-follow HP online support articles. Still trying to fix the overheating issue.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I love this laptop. For many reasons. Primarily I like the fact that it's 15.6 inches not a behemoth yet handles all my multimedia needs flawlessly. The hi-def capable screen is well built and very thin, as is the whole laptop. Some of the included HP software and hardware are true innovations. It stays cool during long use and power is managed well.

First I fully charged it then I took it for a joyride the day I got it and started uninstalling programs I didn't use and installing programs I wanted on it. (took Norton off hate Norton...went with Microsoft Security Essentials which if microsoft does nothing else right does fully integrate and does not slow down your sytem like battleship norton! Tho I'm not saying the Norton on this laptop would since I didn't try it.) Fired up the wifi and did the obligatory updates first and the Windows 7 home premium was surprisingly up to date (it downloaded 235mb in less than three minutes). Put sounds on first so I could work and listen and that 'beat' sound system is everything my grandkids told me it was. Really full sound from laptop speakers! Tested out the new 'swipe' motion touchpad (does not have touchscreen and lamentably no blu-ray player yet does have multi-dvd writer player) and found with a little practice these old arthritic hands may just wind up using those motions more than the usual touch navigation system (have laptop mouse on the way for backup). Before I knew it I had been going at it for about six hours and my battery was still showing at least an hour left! NOW THAT IMPRESSED ME! Then I got the literature and read that the battery can last up to eight hours. My how times have changed. The AMD quad processor makes it move along like my desktop and even at 2.3 whatever max (I'm not a tech) it still handled multiple tasks without slowing down to a zombie pace. For instance I had some Hi-Def camcorder footage I wanted to watch so after transferring the files to my new laptop I used the hdmi port (comes with one) to connect it to my Panasonic plasma tv and watched it in Hi-Def without a snag. I like the fact that the stuff the laptop is supposed to do out of the box it does without hitches and snags and needed workarounds.

When I got everything I wanted on it I plugged it back in and charged it up again and then went to dinner and some shopping and came back and decided to test it's movie playing capabilities and boy was it great! The picture on my old Indiana Jones DVD popped on that screen and the sound was like being in my own mini-theater. (I use Corell) It also gave me a chance to try out my new 3.0 usb external harddrives since it has 3.0 ports and capability (the system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) and I'm amazed at the added speed of transference with the 3.0 connections. On this device about 40% faster than on my pc which is 2.0. It comes with the aforementioned 8 hour battery and power cord adapter and is sleek and has a brushed metal cover. Mine is black and looks 'kewl' according to my grandson. At the price, and I have tested those 300 and 400 dollar units with the fancy I whatever intel processors and they don't process as fast as this baby, it's worth the extra to get the beat sound and the consistant quad performance. It seems sturdy and I like the fact that it stays cool too. So this old grandpa highly recommends it. I'm hoping I get to keep it cause the grandson is already scheming on how to trade me his much slower one for a speedy one for college this year!!!!

Ok I researched and researched every laptop made around the $500 mark. For the money I think this is by far the best one out. The AMD quad core processor 6gb of ram and the AMD Radeon HD 7640 graphics are perfect for what I need. I run over 100 processes and use up ALOT of memory and this computer handles everything I throw at it and still runs nice and cool. The resolution is GREAT! The Whites are Bright and the Battery Life is better than AVG. Setup was a breeze and the finger print recognition is another plus. Beats audio made My Headphones and my Desktop speakers sound better than they ever have. The only complaint I would have is HP customer service is under educated about their products and when you call in for an issue you might find that you probably know more about your new PC than the Employee will. Hooking my laptop up to my HD T.V was quite an issue. MY TV would not recognize the resolution from my PC through my HDMI cord or my VGA cord. Other than that if your looking for a sleek looking, great sounding, quick machine for Under $600 I dont think you will find a better all around PC. Now if you're a hard core gamer and that's all you do, you might want to go another direction but for a user that loves to have 10 windows open in Chrome meanwhile like to have safari open and 20 gidgets widgets and midgets running in your background THIS IS THE COMPUTER FOR YOU!!! 4.5 out of 5 the only deduction is no blu ray :(

First of all let me start and say, product received and exactly as advertised.

Now, I bought this machine for my daughter, right now I use a US$ 2850.00 Dell Latitude E6420 with Core i7 and 8GB of DDR3 (1600 Mhz), 500GB HDD 7200RPM with FFS Technology and Quadro Card NVS4200. My laptop score under windows shows 5.2 no matter how much I tweak it. When I opened my new daughter's HP Pavilion DV6-7010US machine, it took me few minutes to continue setting up the operating system and register it. Another few minutes to update both, the laptop and the operating system. Now it is ready for testing.

The machine is pretty fast for its configurations and of course its price. After the second boot to the OS everything is smooth and stable, even with all the HP loaded unnecessary products and software. After that I have tested some heavy duty programs and renders; it runs perfect. I tried some heavy duty 3D games such as Second Life with the original SL viewer and Firestorm. I was surprised! The graphics are on medium but much better than many other machines with better processors and graphic cards.

With Second Life I noticed some heating since the game uses one of the most powerful graphic engines in the whole world, tweaked the graphics card options and the SL viewer and BANG! It is even more smoother and faster.

Well.. After all, I can tell this is one of the best machines ever released for its value, for a bigger or middle type users, nothing else is needed. And I do congratulate AMD and ATI for such processor. I've been always a fan of them that company.

Regards,

NATTARIOUS

Gateway ID47H06u 14-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Gateway ID47H06u 14-Inch LaptopI received this laptop about a month ago, and so far I like it very much.

Pros:

-Compact (Thin screen and body, compact even for a 14"I got a 13.3" sleeve and it fits)

-Great battery life (I have had it on and working for 3+ hours, and charge still above 50%)

-Stays cool even sitting on my lap, I have never felt this laptop get hot

-Great sound very loud and clear sound, I was amazed at the sound for such a small computer.

-Solid Brushed aluminum top and inside, looks good too

Cons:

SD slot is a little tricky to access and use

The light which indicates the battery is charging is unnecessarily large and bright, while the other indicator lights are very small and poorly marked.

-The pictures can be deceptive, the screen does not extend as far as shown. I like the screen, but I was disappointed because the illuminated area of the screen does not extend as far as shown.

Other stuff worth mentioning:

-Mouse pad is not for everyone. It has a lot of functions, but I have not found them very useful.

-Processor is plenty fast for everyday computing. I don't really do anything that requires lighting speeds though. Starts up and shuts down quickly.

-It has a USB 3, if you need one of those.

Overall I am very happy with this computer's functionality and portability. I recommend this computer for occasional travelers or anyone who wants a compact portable computer.

I had trouble with this computer.. Sent it back because it was always returning to the home screen when I was on the Internet. It also would often flash a black screen for a couple seconds before opening a new page... I was afraid it was gonna crash all the time

I received this laptop 2 hours ago. Turned it on, got it set up. Then when I went to shut the screen (barely touched the screen) it shut off and would not come on again. Found out the battery is embedded so it cannot be removed but there is a battery reset button, hit that and was able to turn it back on. Got it started up again and again barely touched the top of the screen and it crashed. There is obviously some connection that is screwed up. I will be returning this laptop and going with a different one.

HP ENVY DV7-7212nr Windows 8 Notebook PC

HP ENVY DV7-7212nr Windows 8 Notebook PCVery fast laptop.

Boots up in seconds.

Stunning display.

Runs cool.

Looks nice.

ssd + hdd Impressive

No compatibility issues.

This laptop has amazing capabilities for the price. My only complaint is that I have not been able to install Windows 7x64 Ultimate, and HP's response is that it does not support Win 7x64.

I am a technical co-founder for a health tech startup. I needed a laptop for road warrior demos of clinical data warehouse analyses, and this fit the bill.

I bought it in the following configuration: 1080p screen resolution with internal 32GB SSD, 125W power supply, 2GB video card, oversized battery, 8GB RAM, 750GB 7200rpm disk. I then upgraded to 16GB RAM and added an additional 1TB 5200RPM Hitachi internal drive. The second internal drive required purchasing an OEM drive caddy and cable for $45.

The backlit keyboard is ever so cool... I have wanted something like this for years.

I replaced the existing 2 800MHz 4GB DIMMs with 2 666MHz 8GB DIMMs. The BIOS recognized the lower-speed DIMMs, and adjusted the interface appropriately.

I'm now running a 16GB RAM/1.75 TB disk laptop.

My workaround for Windows 7 compatibility is to run a Windows 7x64 virtual box client on the machine.

The machine runs MS SQL Server 2012 without a problem. SQL Server database performance is on a par with comparably-equipped desktop machines.

Network data transfers: with Jumbo Frame support set to 6KB, I get 118MB/sec network transfers over a gigabit switch; best I've seen in a notebook-class computer.

The USB 3.0 ports transfer data from an external Seagate 2TB 7200RPM drive to the internal 750GB 7200RPM drive at 100 to 125MB/sec.

The internal 32GB SSD consistently transfers data at 191MB/sec.

The internal 750GB 7300rpm drive transfers data at 70 to 125 MB/sec, averaging 97MB/sec.

The 1TB 5400rpm drive that I added to the second drive bay transfers data at 50 to 104 MB/sec, averaging 82MB/sec.

I haven't tested the BluRay movie playback capability.

Does everything the description says. Runs very smoothly. Most of the Windows 8 kinks have been worked out already. I personally enjoy windows 8 more than any previous operating system. The learning curve is small for anyone tech savvy, though it may not be the best OS for business purposes. Love the fingerprint reader combined with the HP Simple Pass. Truly a desktop replacement. Should last me many years with the current hardware, though I'm sure Ill drop and break it before it is outdated, as is when I usually upgrade.

Very, very fast. Great for gaming if on a budget and you don't want to drop $2000 for a real gaming laptop. The build quality is excellent and it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. The sound is amazing for being a laptop too, having the volume all the way up is almost too loud, and the sound doesn't get distorted when you crank it up. The only gripe that I have with it is the border around the screen shows fingerprints really bad because of the gloss finish. It's the only area on the laptop that is glossy, the rest is the black brushed aluminium or matte (like the keyboard, mousepad, and underside of the laptop). It has the usual HP bloatware, but HP thankfully included a restore option called a 'Minimized Image Recovery' that removes all the crap you don't want, but leaves the useful stuff like HP Update that you'll probably want for driver, bios, and service alert updates. Windows 8 works fine for me as well, and I've been using Windows since 95. It takes a little bit getting used to, but there's several free programs out there that can add a start menu to the desktop mode if you really don't like the Metro tiles and menus. Most of the reviews are giving the laptop a bad rating because of Windows 8, and that's not fair to HP or this laptop. They didn't design Windows 8, they designed the laptop which is great.

Want HP ENVY DV7-7212nr Windows 8 Notebook PC Discount?

I did much product research on notebooks prior to this purchase, and finally settled on this one. The biggest reason I was shopping for a new laptop was to handle the loads of graphics work in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. I work occasionally on very large .psd files, and my former laptop would really bog down. This new HP ENVY is indeed as advertised and as expected. I have done a considerable amount of photo editing work, and it is superb. I do plan to upgrade the RAM to 16GB, but haven't encountered a situation where I really needed it yet. This notebook is a very competent system, and better than most for the price. The only feature I wish this laptop had is Lightscribe capabilities.

There is much hubbub about Windows 8, and here is my two cents: I have been well-experienced in every Windows platform since ME, so I feel I have a pretty good grasp of both consumer-level interaction and tech-level interaction. From a consumer point of view, I think Windows 8 is very good. While having a touchscreen would be a big advantage, I find that the multi-touch pointing device does a considerable job, and makes W8 very easy to use. Before purchasing or upgrading a PC to W8, make sure it has either touchscreen or multi-touch capabilities in my opinion, a must!

I am 99.9% pleased with this purchase, and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a desktop replacement processing power on a budget.

ASUS 1225B-SU17-BK 11.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

ASUS 1225B-SU17-BK 11.6-Inch LaptopAsus has made a fantastic product at a great price. I previously owned an Eeepc 900 and loved it for about five years. I learned to use linux with it, I fell in love with Ubuntu using it and really got hooked on having a computer smaller than a pad of paper. I was worried that the Tablet would end Netbooks for good and hated the idea of a crummy throw away operating system made for cell phones, and incapatibility with windows. Then I heard Asus was coming out with this next-Gen netbook and I was excited. I have had it for a while now and feel it deserves a review. I Love It! It is so fast for its size and has tons of space. I run my website off of it and use it for writing papers, editing photos, watching movies and basic email/internet use.

Looking for a small PC..? If you have money I would suggest you get a Mac book, If not... maybe consider this one under $440. Happy with my purchased! So far.. One of the top netbooks that you can get under 12 inches for 2012. 4G Ram and 320 Hard Drive, pretty good for the size. This is perfect to people who loves to travel..like me. I don't want to bring my heavy laptop with me when I travel. Thin and light 3.2 lbs and faster than other netbooks who only have 1G or 2G RAM. So far my only complaint is the battery, it said on the box up to 7 hrs.. mine only last 4 1/2 or 5hrs at times on hybrid mode. Well no biggie...that's good enough for me thats a lot. I mean, battery consumption also depends on the task you are doing on the computer. Well if you are comparing this to Acer aspire one 722, Just to let you know, I bought the acer aspire one 722 before this one which has exactly the same specs but lasted only 15days, Gladly returned it..the power just did not turn on again. Lemon.. Do not get acer. This one is better.

Before I begin I will provide a little more information about the product that should be given in the description.

The Windows Experience Index is 3.7. The individual ratings are as follows.

Processor 3.7

RAM 5.6

Graphics 4.3

Gaming Graphics 5.8

Primary hard Disk 5.6

The 320 GB HDD is partitioned into two partitions. One 99.9GB and the other 183GB. Not really sure why they did that but not really a negative.

The Netbook also comes with a TON of bloatware. Tons of ASUS apps such as a top dock, a special media sharing app, a BIOS updater, E-CAM (adding effects to the webcam) and a trial of TrendMicro AntiVirus. There might of been more that I forgot because I uninstalled most of them as soon as the device booted up.

Interestingly it also has a built in OS that you can quickly boot into by pushing the button next to the WiFi button. Good for quickly checking something on the internet.

The Netbook as a whole is very solid. The Keyboard is a little cramped but not bad seeing as it is a 11" screen. The backlight is very bright and crisp. The tracpad is a little over sensitive out of the box for my liking and the uni-button on the tracpad takes time getting used to.

The webcam is the usual low quality webcam but has a physical switch that blocks the camera and also a digital zoom button along with a on light for the paranoid.

Under the tracpad there is a on light, charging light, HDD light, WiFi light, and a caps lock light.

It has a app for sending media over WiFi to other devices but I don't have a device that supports it to test it out on.

Summery:

Good Excelent battery life (5+ hours of actual use), Decent keyboard, great performance for the price, built in operating system

Bad Amount of bloatware

Weird Partitioning of HDD.

I will update this review is anything breaks or goes wrong.

I wanted hardware that was this small cheap and packed. I needed high specs like 4Gig ram and decent processor. I didn't want to have to pay for windows since it gets flushed when I get it anyway but the general public hasn't accepted that M$ is on its was to being phased out anyway. Other that that all the hardware works great with Ubuntu and my requirements. Free shipping was fast and reliable. First week but running strong and looks slick too. I respect ASUS for kicking my ACER habit. I will be buying ASUS for my work horse Desktop now. I recommend this to anyone looking for a portable mobile with good specs and especially to open source computer nerds who could appreciate this piece of machinery. :D

We got this for my wife to use while we travel, paid a little under $500 with software and a padded sleeve included. It was the only computer we could find that had decent speed & 4 gigs of RAM, was ultra portable that cost less than $800. We could have gotten a tablet but she felt the storage and ports of a real computer would be more useful. It's very compact and is surprisingly fast -with the 1.6 dual-core AMD chip it runs 64-bit Windows 7 no problem. The display screen is nicer (although much smaller) than the one on my $1100 Thinkpad. I thought the smaller 11.6" screen would bother me but it's not bad at all. It remains to be seen how well it will hold up while traveling throughout SE Asia for months on end, but I'm hopeful.

Dell XPS L501X

Dell XPS L501XI have had the dell XPS L501X since 2010, i have never been comfortable with any other laptop. It is great laptop. The performance is fantastic except for the new touchpad driver. I hope they go back to the original touchpad driver, it stopped some feature on the touchpad button the hot key is not responsive with the new updated driver.

Other than that I would recommend this product to my family members.

I customized adding Bluetooth, blueray video player, and 2GB video card.

Boy this is the laptop.

I bought this laptop a year ago to replace my Dell Studio 1535 laptop. This core I5 processor is fast along with up to 16GB of memory this thing runs like a gaming desktop! The design is pleasing to the eyes and very sturdy although this is on the bulky side so it really isn't for carrying around and is more suited for a desktop replacement. The video playback of HD movies looks terrific and the speakers and sub-woofer on this thing are the best I've ever heard on any laptop to date! I like the backlit keyboard, USB 3.0, eSata and HDMI ports. Dell did a good job on this unit, but then again the XPS line of laptops are the top of the line from Dell which is why they are called Xtreme Performance Systems!

pros: very fast, can play most games on very high settings, light (for a computer with its performance) has not had any problems so far

cons: a little pricy

It's been 1 day and my power supply stopped working.

I called customer care but it's going to take almost 1 week to replace it.

and my laptop battery died right now so I cannot use it anymore.

I googled it and I found that there are a lot of people who has same issue.

Never buy this and never trust dell.

Samsung Series 3 NP365E5C-S02US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

Samsung Series 3 NP365E5C-S02US 15.6-Inch LaptopFor the price, this is an amazing value. The case, while made primarilly of plastic, isn't cheesy at all. The lid is made of aluminum and looks very nice, like units costing much more. The keyboard layout with the 10 key fits the shell well, the bonus is that the keys are separated from each other so there's less chance of getting stuff down between the keys nice! There are 2 USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI port. The built in camera is adequate, the memory at 4GB is perfectly sized for this price range. I'm honestly surprised by how quick this AMD processor is, it's almost as fast as my Intel quadcore (non-hyperthreaded) 2.67 Ghz desktop. All nice features for a laptop in this price range. The primary reason for this purchase was to use it to browse the internet and email along with the occasional spreadsheet/word document. It performs beyond expectation in that catagory. Other benefits of this laptop are the bottom stays cool when running, and the battery life is great, about 5+ hours of use without recharging.

As an aside, it comes loaded with Windows 8, which admittedly takes a little getting used to. I can see after working with this OS that it would be beneficial to have a touch screen interface. It works okay without one after you get used to the quirks of Win8 and the "gestures" that you use to open the start screen, like swipe in to the touch pad from the computer shell on the right side, or switch applications by swiping in to the touch pad from the computer shell on the left side. The top down swipe motion in context sensitive. For non-touch screen computers I'd prefer it if Microsoft put the Win7 start menu back on the desktop interface. On touch screen based computers I'm sure I'd rather use the Win8 "start" interface.

At this point although early in the game I'm very happy with the results.

The laptop itself is light and sleek looking. The feel of it is good and solid and the keyboard is similar to a Mac in its spacing and design. They are separated by a bit of space that would make it easier to clean. The battery life is pretty long. I've been using it on a single charge for about 6.5 hrs now and still have 25% remaining. The screen is pretty nice and crisp. Colors are nice and vivid. I haven't watched HD videos yet but so far it seems good.

The laptop comes preinstalled with windows 8. I don't mind it but I believe that Microsoft really intended for windows 8 to be use with a touch screen devise. You can go back to windows 7 if you choose by going to the Samsung website and following their instructions. I just received mine today so I'm going to give W8 a try.

The bad thing I can say about this model is that the mouse pad is not sensitive. I have to tap pretty hard for it to double click or even respond. The mouse pad response time is relatively slow compared to how fast I'm moving my fingers to items I want to click on. The computer also does not have a light or any kind of signal that would tell you whether number lock or caps lock is on. I used to have a Toshiba Satellite and I would say that I prefer Toshiba's mouse pad over this one.

Overall I would say that its a good laptop but it does take some getting used to. If you want a sensitive mouse pad that highly responsive I would advise you not to get this model. Other than that it seems like a good device. I'll post another review in about a month so you can see how it holds up to a Biology major/English Minor college student usage.

One Month Later: I ended up returning the laptop in favor of purchasing an Acer Aspire V5 due to all the problems I was having with the laptop. Some programs that I needed to run for my homework were unable to work. The processor speed scored a 2.2 out of 9 and I was unable to speed it up. Others buyers say that their laptop was great so maybe my unit was just faulty. On the positive side, Samsung customer service is great even though they couldn't help me much whenever I spoke to them.

This laptop is fast and quiet. The wifi is ready to work while the start screen appears (very fast)... W8-64bit, the USB3.0 ports are much faster than 2.0 and this is a plus ! ! I was continously working a little more than 4 hours and the battery said 10%. I doubt another laptop with this kind of performance ! ! ! The W8 is completely different to the previous versions, and it is fast ! ! Now, I like it.... So this a new paradigm. We must adapt to do the same things in a different way. The aluminium body is great ! !

Don't expect it to handle high density graphic games, but for school, programming, and light gaming, nothing could have been better for the money!

Thinkpad R52 1847 - Centrino Pentium M 750 1.86 Ghz - 512 Mb - 40 Gb - CD-rw / D

Thinkpad R52 1847 - Centrino Pentium M 750 1.86 Ghz - 512 Mb - 40 Gb - CD-rw / DI Had To Constantly Remove The Battery Due To The Laptop Freezing Up Each Day. However, It Is A Very Good Laptop Otherwise, Fast For A 6 Year Old System. I Had To Return It Due To This Problem.

Pros:

It's cheap, cheap, cheap. Does a decent job for the price. Feels very tough and sturdy.

Cons:

It's kind of heavy and the battery life isnt going to carry you that long (roughly 2.5 hours with LinuxOS and *I think* old battery) but I leave it plugged in most of the time and have watched a 2 hour movie on the battery alone.

The R52 is getting pretty old tech in laptop terms. I don't use it for any heavy/intense gaming or anything it should last for quite a while :)

Recommendation:

Buy it if you want a simple browsing laptop or to read/watch some movies on it.Maybe as a backup to store your personal data that you need to quickly access if your main computer ever goes down. Don't expect some awesome machine though; it's a dinosaur!

PS Double check what you're getting! If it says no HD you need to get one (I bought a small flat usb drive and put Linux on it, works great) Does it come with a charger? (I have the cheap chinese charger on here and it works fine) Are there any other problems with it?

Goodluck

Toshiba Satellite P775D-S7360 17.3-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Platinum

Toshiba Satellite P775D-S7360 17.3-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion X2 Finish in Platinumthis laptop is freaking amazing! super fast and great performance. Once you download and update everything for it the machine is a monster and the integrated graphics card is the best in the market. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone who is a AMD fan or not this whoops Intel's @$$. The Windows Experience Index are as following (rated on a scale of 1.0 to 7.9 with 7.9 being the best):

Processor: 6.6

Memory (RAM): 7.2

Graphics: 5.9

Gaming Graphics: 6.5

Primary hard disk: 5.9

these are outstanding scores for a laptop!

So over all for the price this laptop is at it's by far the best on the market highly recommended!

I purchased this Toshiba Satellite P775D laptop in mid-October and it's proven to be very fast perfect for what I do: email, research, internet. The 17.2 screen is ideal for me have watched dvds on it and the speakers are Harman Kardon and high quality. The keyboard is very easy on the hands and the laptop is extremely quiet. Had a minor problem about adjusting a setting and called Toshiba help line via phone who were very efficient and courteous and fixed the problem. I am very glad I made this purchase; I had ordered an HP laptop in September but returned it immediately because it had a defective keyboard. Amazon returns worked great. I would recommend this laptop.

I have always gone with the latest intel processor when I upgrade laptops, this time I thought I would try the AMD A8 due to great reviews and lower price. After 3 weeks of use I am pleased with this computer it runs everything I have loaded, too include games and has decent screen resolution. It has crashed once something I am not use to; might have been a windows issue? My only complaint is the camera Toshiba uses in most of its laptops, it is really bad, so if you do utilize a webcam you will need to purchase one, the one in this computer is horrible, even after adjusting the settings I think you would need a spotlight in the room for it to work. I did a lot of research prior to my purchase and I couldn't find a bigger bang for the buck. I have purchased a powered usb hub to accommodate all external devices.

Pros: quality, light for size, price for what you get

Cons: webcam, number of usb ports

Samsung Series 9 NP900X4D-A06US 15.0-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Samsung Series 9 NP900X4D-A06US 15.0-Inch LaptopI've had this a couple weeks now and I'm still as impressed as when I opened it. The 3rd generation i5 Ivy Bridge helps keep the temps low, and the 8 gigs of RAM is a noticeable bump over the usual 4 gigs that seems to be standard in ultrabooks these days. I often write with it on my lap and heat nor weight has ever been an issue. The laptop also comes with an ethernet adapter if you're looking to plug in. Wireless range is good, about what you would expect.

The real sell for me is the solid state drive. Being a 128, you can expect around 100gigs of free space. Windows 8 boots in just over 3 seconds. I'm not a fan of 8 so I went with a dual boot with Ubuntu. Ubuntu boots in a little over 4 seconds, very impressed between the two.

Battery Life is pretty solid. Between writing and just surfing the internet you can expect between 7-8.5 hours. Heavy multimedia you can expect right around 3.5-4.

Screen is gorgeous and respectable at 1600 x 900. As the previous reviewer mentioned it isn't a touch screen but if you're seriously thinking about picking this up you should already be well aware of that.

I just received the Samsung Series 9 NP900X4D-A06US 15.0-Inch Laptop. It is very impressive. Only problem is that it doesn't have a touch screen. How is it possible for a high-end Windows 8 Ultrabook to not have a touch screen? What happened? I can only guess Samsung wants to unload all of their old Windows 7 laptops by loading them with Win8 and a big smile.

I'll try it for a few days, but I suspect I'll end up returning it.

Update Apr. 6, 2013

**********************

I have returned the NP900X4D-A06US and replaced it with a Series 5 NP540U3C-A02UB.

Don't get me wrong, if you are ok with not having a touch screen, the NP900X4D-A06US is a very impressive machine. It is beautiful and light and there is a lot of attention to detail. It is very quiet and even at high process utilization it only gets a little warm. The only meaningful downside is that you end up with only about 100 GB of free space out of the box, but you probably thought about that already considering the computer comes with a 128 GB SSD.

HP Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM 16-Inch NotebookMy daughter needed a laptop for her first semester of college. This was a great choice and a wonderful buy. I did however purchase this through walmart, but non the less it was a good experience. She has had no problems with it so far and thats good news to me! I do recommend this to other buyers. My son is tech savvy and he thought the computer was a great deal for the money. He did have to remove some unnecessary programs for her though.

Happy Holidays!

Just bought. The mouse pointer jumps around with a mind of it's own, and the support that HP volumously congratulates itself for in the bloatware loaded on the thing, and in unsolicited email, is non-existant. Clicking links for support only leads to more marketing and useless FAQs.

The bloatware is worse than the reviews indicate. You can spend hours removing it. The trail offers interfered with the installation of the Office 2010 I had bought. The mouse pad is terrible. Sensitivity nill.

Not worth the trouble.

HP Pavilion DV6000z Laptop PC, AMD Turion 64x2 CPU @ 1.83 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard DriveWorks fantastic. It is quick when plugged into my internet and is in almost perfect condition.

It is 4 stars because the wifi button to enable it doesnt seem to work and wont pick up a signal but my grandpa is a computer expert and it works fine.

My review is about the HP Pavillion DV6000 or DV6500 with 2GB RAM, 225GB HD, AMD Turion 2GHZ 64bit

Of course this laptop generation is already quite old but besides that I really like the quality of this HP product. No hardware problems since years. If some then just because of WIN Vista.

PLUS:

+ great hardware quality (all components)

+ firewire input (for camcorder)

+ remote controll (DVD...)

+ great sound (Altec Lansing Design)

+ quickplay buttons (loudness, play, mute, play, pause...)

+ nice design

+ 3x USB still 2.0 of course

+ SD Card Reader

+ cd/DVD Multi Recorder burner

+ lightscripe (the dvd cd drive can print with his laser the covers of CDs)

CONS:

not for latest 3D games (too slow)

battery only up to 2h

becomes warm near the fan on the lap after some hours
