It is my first time owning and using a laptop on a constant basis, so I am on a learning curve now. But I am getting there trying to learn everything. I however have limited problems, which will be overcome in time.
This computer is perfect! the weight is ok. It sounds good, not that quite loud but good quality sound. Windows 8 is great on this computer. The speed is quite amazing. I have a gaming pc and I am very happy with this computers performance. I Definitely recommend this product. I did a lot of researching to buy a computer for college and for the price and the hardware i can tell you this is a great choice.

Nice processor and well built. I was concerned about all the negative Windows 8 reviews, but so far so good. No issues with any mechanics, including the touch-pad. Does all the basics with ease.
This computer came defective. First, Sony's support told that was a BIOS setup problem. The computer had a lot of crashes (blue screen) and seemed to be not reliable to work with. I sent it back to Amazon.

It seems that laptop manufacturers think that a touchscreen is only useful in 13" and smaller machines. I do actual work on my laptop and need at least a 15" display. The Acer V5-571P was the only 15" touchscreen laptop I could find that is available today (Nov '12) and reasonably priced. I picked up the Core i5 model from the Microsoft store for $699 and upgraded the memory to 8GB RAM and replaced the slow 500GB HD with a 256GB Samsung SSD. The motherboard supports 6Gbs SATA, so I'm able to get the full read/write speeds from my SSD (400MBs write / 500MBs read). Replacing the RAM was simple because there's a panel held on by 2 screws. Replacing the hard drive is something that will give many people pause. Basically the entire laptop needs to be disassembled to get access to the HDD. It takes about 30 minutes of careful disassembly; luckily there is an Acer repair manual PDF available to show you how. Windows 8 boots pretty quickly from a normal HDD, but after installing the SSD, it now goes from completely powered off to the log in screen in 8 seconds. The touchscreen works as advertised and I have no complaints about it. The keyboard and trackpad are not so great. The trackpad is placed a little too far left so that my palm is constantly brushing it and causing unintended behavior. The backlit keys are a nice addition. The battery it ships with is a low capacity (14.8V 2350mAH). This is too small for a Core i5 laptop; With normal use I'm able to get 3.5 hours out of it. I think the battery life will be less with the original hard drive since the Samsung SSD is super low power. I have not been able to find a high capacity battery for this model. I would gladly carry some extra bulk to increase the battery life. If anyone finds a compatible battery of at least 4400mAH, please let me know.

get this Acer Aspire V5-571P for my kid(in university). the windows 8 is fun to play with touchscreen. the same cost you may select between i5 CPU with touchscreen or i7 CPU with old standard screen. I think you can not feel much of the speed different between i5 and i7. but you and your friend will know the different right away when you play on the touchscreen. By the way, the win8 pre-loaded a VPN, you cannot use school download win7 VPN, but you can config the WIN8 pre-load VPN for your school or company network. I have to echo a previous review which starts by saying: "Hardware wise, it's excellent and you're getting a lot of bang for your buck. Unfortunately, this laptop was plagued with wifi problems for the whole time I owned it. I'm always wary when I read a product review that begins something like "I received my new (fill in name) yesterday and it's great!" A five star rating without a reasonable time to test things isn't something I put much trust in. So I have waited to review my HP HDX 16 laptop for two months of daily use. I'm very impressed with this HP, my first HP after three Dell laptops all of which were good performers.

I got this laptop instead of a tablet because I like the added versatility and a little bigger size doesn't make a huge difference to me. The laptop is fairly quick (partially thanks to the solid state HD); however, the downsides are the weak speakers and quirky touchpad. The speakers are barely loud enough to be able to play a movie/TV show on it and have enough juice to make it sound good. If you want a truly portable laptop (< 3 lbs) and has a big enough usable disk space (240GB SSD), this is the one for you. I was considering to buy a Macbook Air but a comparably-equipped model would cost $1,600! I was also considering the Acer 6646 model, which has a hydrid drive (20GB SSD + 320GB HDD) and costs about $800 but I didn't want to deal with the headache of a split partition and, the slow speed and reliability problem of the harddrive. So I chose this model. For 2 weeks now, I'm impressed with the startup/sleep and operating performance of the laptop. The only downsides I see is the mouse pad takes some getting used to: clicking the left/right buttons takes some force double tap is better but right click can not be substituted, and the mouse pad is slightly off-centered from the space key, causing my right thumb to accidentally touch the mousepad occasionally. Overall, it's a very good laptop and a solid, less-expensive alternative to the Macbook Air, if you're accustomed to Windows 7 like me.
This laptop completely overheats quite often. This laptop gets so hot it caused 4th degree burns on my childs lap.
This laptop has made it through 2 years of college for me, which is not a light task I am known for abusing electronics. I have left this laptop in direct sunlight for long periods of time, Plus in frigid cold winters of Michigan it survived. Its been thrown around in my book bag etc... but through all of these demands it remains in tact and fast as ever. The screen has true HD graphics with a remarkable refresh rate for a personal computer. I strongly recommend this laptop, as it has proven to me that Acer is a future brand name for PC'S.

So many choices and options on these computers! I went with this one because of the quad core A8-3500 high end processor it seems most of the others had lower end processors, and for the money this had everything I wanted, and it's very light and thin as well. Boots up faster than any other computer I've owned I hope it stays that way!

I got this laptop on a deal at Best Buy shortly after the holidays. There's 2 memory slots, so I immediately swapped in an additional 4GB of RAM, and I haven't found anything that really taxes this system much yet. I really like the look and feel of the laptop, and (upgraded to 8GB total RAM) it is an awesome deal for under $500. I don't do gaming, but I do watch netflix and HBO Go, and that streaming video quality is great on this screen, although very slightly washed out.
Had to part with my old gateway laptop of 10-12 years as AOL spoiled the speed with its invasive intrusions through my internet connection. While I miss the slot for my camera scan disc and can't find my cable, the features of the Dell laptop Latitude D610 are just fine for me. Not too many "modern conveniences" like blueray, webcam, etc. but I don't need any of that. I like the screen size, the keyboard is lovely and the size is perfect. I did find the touch pad a bit rougher than my gateway (real smooth) and so similar to the surrounding surface, that I sometimes am sliding around everywhere except on the touch pad. Don't care for the ball item on the keyboard between "G" and H" similar to IBM think pad which I never liked and don't use. I find it too hard to manipulate as I did with the think pad. But I love the touch of the keyboard and the sellers, Compusales3000, do a fine job of shipping and surprised me with 20 additional gigabites on the harddrive! I like that they check and refurbish all their items at their warehouse before sending them out, and even add little personal notes! I would definitely say they are customer friendly!
Great product. I also ordered 16 gig of RAM from Crucial to max it out. Love the Edge 531. It flies thru Photoshop! My only complaint is the display is lacking. Particularly for photo editing. However that being said, I'm ordering a 24" monitor which remedies that problem. I've been an HP person for years but after a week of intense research decided this was e best bang for the buck. So far I'd say I made the right decision....
