Acer 17.3" A6-3400M 1.4GHz Notebook | AS7560-Sb416

I bought this laptop a few day's ago at Wal-Mart I paid $100 less than what amazon's asking price was which was a great deal. I really wanted to go for an I7 but figured I could settle for less. But so for this laptop has done everything that I could possibly want it to. I installed Star Wars: The old republic on it and the game runs beautifully. I've also ran some other heavy memory usage programs and didn't take a toll at all. But honestly since I've had this machine for a few days I can't give a better review at this time. But if you want a laptop that can run newer games and do some work related stuff on it for a cheap price go for this. The downfall is the time you will removing the useless junk that comes reinstalled, which of course all computers do. Plus I'm not a huge fan of the track pad on it, it seems to be a bit annoying when attempting to do right/left click.

Cons:

* Chances of the hindges to become loose.

My wife is going back to college and needed a laptop to handle graphic art editing. I figured she would need at least a quad core CPU and a higher end GPU to efficiently run the necessary programs. I bought her this refurb after reading the specs and positive user reviews. My research indicated that I couldn't touch another quad core unit for this price. This laptop has exceeded my expectations...very fast, nice big bright screen with good color rendering, and decent speakers. My wife has pretty much made this her primary PC because of its speed, Win 7 OS, and larger screen than her desktop. It seems to handle all programs with ease...great purchase. The only con...the vacant second drive bay (a very nice plus) is useless because of the molded plastic space filler that is molded into the drive/RAM cover. Looks like I'll be using my Dremmel to remove that soon...I plan on adding an SSD to boot from and upgrading to 8 GB RAM, as other reviewers suggested.

I've had no problems out of this computer so far! The Radeon Graphics are excellent and I from what I've read this computer is an excellent gaming machine! I also have A HP Laptop but I prefer using this one more! The screen is the perfect size because I like big Gigantic Screens...LOL! It's very clear with a beautiful picture and I would say that the battery life is fairly decent. I would sure recommend this computer! I purchased this computer and it was a refurbished item and when I received it was basically like new! This is one of the best investments that I have made!

Thinkpad X100e 11.6" AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 (1.60GHz) 160GB

I have just received my awesome Lenovo Thinkpad x100e and I've only had it an hour and this is performing beautifully. Now I know that Lenovo doesn't really consider this particular model a netbook but if you are looking for something near netbook size and portability but the performance of a decent laptop this is the one for you.

I own quite a few computers and I'm what you can consider a technoJunkie. I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro (love Apple), Acer amd phenom II Quad core desktop, the Ipad, a dell inspirion mini, etc. The Macbook serves as my more powerful laptop when I need to do my more data intensive work or require more raw power. This little Thinkpad tho is great for everything else. Streaming video is far more superior then any netbook that I have seen. I know that the x100e has a few different models out there but if you are gonna get any model get the faster cpu. The amd athlon neo x2 processor really does make all the difference. Great keyboard as well.

This is a great little laptop and as a fan of thinkpads this is a beauty.

Sidenote: I know in the title it says 160 gb hdd but I took the gamble and I did receive a 250 gb hdd.

At only 3.3 lbs this notebook is very light. It was also inexpensive. But the dual core performance is outstanding. Windows 7 Pro is icing on the cake. This was purchased to replace a net book used while traveling but I've ended up using it almost as much as my larger 15" notebook.

I like the Thinkpad X100e laptop. It has good performance, small form factor, light weight, good keyboard and good price. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because its battery lifetime is not as great. You can use 2 to 3 hours depending on load, which is not as great as Intel's high-end ultra mobile processors or Intel's Atom. However, 2 hours is not that bad. Other than that, I am very pleased with this laptop. One thing you need to be careful with is that you should get a Dual-core version (AMD Neo X2). Lenovo sells both dual-core and single-core versions of Thinkpad X100e. The performance of the single-core version is not as great even though power consumption is at about the same level. A single-core version is recommended only when its price is very good.

Right now Lenovo just launch the x120e, that solves all the performance issues that this model has. Please don't buy it...I just did and now I need to work with no more than 2 applications opened (Outlook 2010 and IE with 2 tabs open) to avoid freezing. It just doesn't worth it.

Weight & size are great, but without performance is useless...I just prefer a netbook for less money. Since I'm a thinkpad fan, I have many expectations with the x120e, with a great review at engadget.

Fujitsu FPCR33452 LifeBook A1220 15.6" Notebook PC

In my family, I have two younger brothers. Neither of them respect personal space. On top of that, I take my laptop practically everywhere with me. I have had this laptop for 5 years and I am on my first need to repair it now. It's been through a lot with me. The touch pad still works, this thing is as durable as laptops could ever be. It's suffered being dropped on the ground, spilled on, all sorts of horrifying things that come with taking care of two younger brothers and it's still working strong. It's fully capable of playing games, I have yet to have it overheat on me even during the summer, and the battery only recently started giving me trouble. After 5 years, the first thing I have to do is get a new battery and have the DVD-R repaired (since it stopped working about 3-4 days ago).

My only complaint would probably be the absolutely craptastic speakers. Some things I watch I can barely hear the audio on top volume, but headphones fix that just find so it's not that big of a deal. That said, if you want a laptop that can handle whatever you throw at it, this is definitely the way to go. I'm the kind of person who uses my laptop more than any healthy person probably ever should and it's lasted me this long, so for a person who doesn't do a lot of work/entertainment/etc. online, I would highly recommend this laptop.

i've had this laptop for a little over 2 years now. now on a search for a new one since my hard drive just crashed. lesson learned to back up more often :/ i've brought this to school many times, it is pretty heavy at over 6 lbs. i really don't know too much about laptops. my dad basically just told me to get this one. i like that it had a lot of USBs. it seemed sturdy enough to bring places. the touch pad wore out probably around a year and a half. it ended up being pretty slow towards the end. i don't think i would buy a fujitsu again. i do think the sturdyness is good though. i have a 20 month old and a dog, there have been plenty of times my 20 month old has pounded on my laptop. probably resulting in the hard drive crash... over all i would say its okay.

Again, very pleased with a Sony product. The keyboard is back-lit. Great design. Great color. I do recommend adding a wireless mouse for more comfort. Totally seamless. My only problem was the original mouse was over sensitive and I did not know how to close applications on the new Windows 8 software. To close apps in Win 8 do an ALT+F4 by the way. I was opening apps unintentionally. The wireless mouse fixed that problem.

HP 14" Pavilion dm4-1165dx Entertainment Notebook PC

I very much liked this computer when I got it. Then about 1.5 years after using it only for school and barley travled out the house with it the hinge on the left side broke. It got to the point where I couldn't close it properly. I needed it deperatly so I bought a replacement part and had the entire screen replaced (the only way to fix the problem) Now its six months later and the same left hinge broke. This time I decided to look up if anyone experinced this. To my suprise this happens a lot. For hp to know of this problem and ignore it is terrible. I am annoyed at hp for this. This take 700-800 dollars out of my pocket. Being a student I can not afford for a computer to last only 2 years. I don't think I will ever buy a hp again.I have never written a bad review because I know no product is perfect but hp straight up took my money for this junk of a computer!!

This laptop was bought more than 6 months ago and I think it is a good quality laptop. It could be better in some areas like the mouse pad. The pad is a little finnicky and it is hard to control sometimes. Other than that, it seems to be pretty good quality with everything else, including a big hard drive and a good processor. The battery life is pretty long, I find it usually lasts around 4 and half hours or so if I am just surfing the web and using word/excel type functions. The coolest thing about the laptop is it's sleek design and its light weight aluminum brush finish.

I have found the customer service to be pretty helpful when my laptop wasn't working properly for a minor issue connecting to the internet. They are contracted from India somewhere, but they did solve my issue which seemed pretty abstract to solve in the first place; so that is a good sign. I actually ended up taking out the battery and holding the power button for 45 seconds to discharge any static built up in the laptop.

All in all, I would give this laptop on a scale of a 100 an 85. If I had to grade it on marginal dollar value, I would grade it a little higher, maybe 90 out of 100. Hope this helps.

I also have been having problem with its left hinge. After googling, I have concluded that this is a design flaw of the Pavilion dm4 series -there are too many people experiencing problems regarding to the left hinge, repeatedly. And bad reviews of the hinge problem are everywhere -quite a few topics on HP forum, people mentioning the left hinge problem on other Amazon reviews, and, there's even a youtube video regarding fixing the left hinge of Pavilion dm4! As a customer, I feel raged, being told by the HP Customer Service people that the hinge broke because I dropped it -NO, I didn't. You simply cannot deny the design flaw by blaming your customer. I am sorry, HP, if you think that this is the right way to treat your customers, then you probably deserve to be bankrupted.

On a side note, the Customer Service people were also extremely not helpful -I was describing the problem to them trying to find replacement parts, but they basically told me that I just need a hinge cover, which is definitely not true. After a lot of research, I found that the main problem comes from the hinge and the cracked plastic anchor on the back cover. I have done my homework, and it shouldn't be this way -forcing your customers to become computer experts?! Ridiculous.

My roommate, who also had a Pavilion dm4 (she bought it 2 weeks after I did), is now back to IBM since that her dm4's system board and memory broke. It would have costed her more to fix it than to get a new one, so she got a new one, from IBM... And she also agreed that she would never go back to HP again.

This is my first time writing a bad review. I have just send in a complaint to HP, hopefully they will come up with a solution. Will update when they solve the problem.

Update 1:

HP contacted me back (which is quick and efficient of them), saying that they don't have any records of it being a designed flaw. Based on the information I have gathered, I requested HP a further investigation on this issue. They did offer me half off repair, which considering how they have offered other out of warranty Pavilion dm4 customers free repair, I am starting to feel raged again.

I had this computer for a few years and absolutely love it! For the dude with the sensitive mouse pad you can adjust the sensitivity in the control panel. I don't know why someone would call it a cheap design. I'm not sure what the charging light is all about,but I don't think it should get a one star just for that. Like I said, I have had this computer a couple years with no issues I love it and am writing a review because I saw the low star rating and was completely perplexed. I think the low reviews are nit picky. I understand a bad review if your hinges broke, but the rest appear to me to just be written by cranky people and are baseless.

I bought this laptop a few weeks ago. Frankly, it is really light, fast and portable, easily fits in your backpack and has a long-lasting battery life.You can use it for hours while enjoying a coffee at Starbucks or when doing a homework in a library.

Its shape is pretty thin and helps you grab it with confidence. I also like the screen resolution, gives out perfect pictures and makes video watching so enjoyable.

The only think that would make it deserve an A+++ would be a back-lit keyboard, but this can still be put on afterwards, right?

Toshiba Satellite U945-S4140 14-Inch Ultrabook (Ice Blue with Fusion Lattice)

This Laptop is excellent in terms of performance and ability, but what I don't like is that it doesn't meet the 5 hour minimum battery life requirement to be considered a Ultrabook. This is largely due to the fact that it has a 4 cell battery. It gets closer to a 2.5 hour during normal usage. The Intel i5-3317U is a good processor. Heck I even got this rig to run Skyrim, and the frame rate was actually pretty good. If you're looking for a primary laptop then this is a good decision although there are still laptops in this price range that I prefer more...cough cough...Lenovo is awesome. Toshiba needs to make some improvements into the battery life, but in terms of responsiveness we got this device to boot in 11 seconds, from completely powered off to powered on state so that is pretty impressive considering this still runs a Hybrid Hard Drive. I do like that it has 2 USB 3.0s which are fantastic for flash drives and external hard drive. I've even appreciated that they can charge my tablet, Nexus 7, and phone, Galaxy S III, while the device is powered off, due to USB 3.0 and not because of any special Toshiba technology.

I use my laptop for nearly all my work and browsing time. I can spend hours processing video, recording, writing, reading, etc. I consider myself a heavy user.

After a fried motherboard on another machine, I bought this windows 8 model.

My trepidation was hearing all the reviews about the need for a touch screen with windows 8, and this model doesn't have it. After two weeks of heavy use, I've figured out how to work with windows 8 to do what I need as if I was in windows 7. The new start screen is a layer that is useless for me, so I've reverted to the familiar desktop.

The F1-F12 keys came with a configuration that is different than all my other laptops the special functions were the default as in F4 switched the displays to an unconnected monitor (that's annoying). The F2 key was rigged to switch between active windows (CTRL Tab), rather than to edit a cell in a worksheet. All the keyboard short cuts I've been working with for years were not default. I had to tool around to figure out how to undo that unhelpful setting.

Here is the annoyance.

The mouse pad is way too sensitive to react to the heat of my hands, causing the cursor to jump around on the screen to where ever the pointer is when I'm typing. I can't tell you how many times this causes errors, formatting changes mid screen, loss of focus and how many times I've hit "buttons" when I'm not done writing. The other day, this happened so much I almost through the machine out the window.

UPDATE: JUNE 13, 2013. . . This problem is unfixable via the touch pad settings. It seems the sensitivity fields extend even an 1/2 inch off beyond the track pad. I have made the zone as small as possible, require the heaviest touch and still, the mouse jumps around. I am forced to by a Usb mouse and disable the track pad.

Annoyance 2:

The mic jack on the laptop has a ground loop buzz, only when the machine is plugged into a powersource. If I want to record an audio, or talk with someone VOIP via the headphone jack, the laptop must be unplugged, obviously limiting.

The same is true with a usb headeset I own it has a buzz when recording, only when the power supply is on.

I have a Dynex usb external mic on a stand. It works correctly whether the laptop is plugged in or not.

Great ultrabook format...my petite wife can drag this around with ease, and hardware wise, it is powerful. Windows 8, however, they just seemed to change things to change them, and made things that ARE relatively easy to use in Windows 7, obscure and difficult to find in 8...not sure HOW this is an advancement in user interface, just seems to be "different to be different".

Amazingly fast, responsive, cool. The only thing I miss is a port for projectors and the battery life is a bit too low. I wouldn't call it an ultrabook.

Acer Aspire 5739G-6959 15.6-Inch Widescreen (Crystal)

This laptop was an awesome buy in 2009 and considering I got it for $650 I couldn't go wrong. I only have 3 problems with this laptop.

1. The touchpad doesn't work right while gaming and I have the newest drivers and such

I don't know why someone would want to use a touchpad for gaming but if you do it won't work

2. The sound quality is very nice but it is also very low...

It has amazing sound quality but in a slightly noise environment you can forget about using the speakers

3. It actually overheats during intense gaming and will shut off completely for 10 minutes. I had the laptop hit 108 degrees Celsius...

This is easily solved by purchasing a cooling pad but those aren't very cheap.

when i receive the laptop, i honestly lowered by expectation to be disappointed... however, I am pleasantly surprised.

The case allows for a nice cooling touch when resting my hand after a break.

It doesn't have a SSD but I swapped one in since i have spare. nice performance.

RAM is easily accessible for upgrade and goes up to 16 GB. Heat seems not to be issue.

Sound is surprising clear. The other HP laptop usually need me to tilt the laptop to allow the sound to be audible at low volume. not so for this model.

I'm a minimalist, though not extreme and this is great for me.

Panasonic CF-29 13.3" ToughBook (Factory Refurbished)

I purchased a pre-owened CF-29 Toughbook and have been very satisfied. I use it extensively in a variety of outdoor environments (heat above 100F, rain, snow, dust, humidity), and have been very satisfied with the overal results. This isn't the fastest computer in the world, but when running my field applications, I typically only have one or two programs up at most.

I am running Windows XP Professional, have Office installed, as well as a few specialty programs. Parts are found everywhere on EBay, and replacing parts is easy if you have a little computer "fix it" know how. Mine is the touch screen and I was able to successfully find the touch screen driver on Panasonics website.

Panasonic customer service isn't the easiest to work with, so there are plenty of other qualified computer techies out there that have excellent Panasonic know how.

I give it a 4/5 stars because, though it's a great computer--it's not perfect. There is only one USB port, would be nice to have two or more, and since there is no internal fan, it gets kind of hot sometimes. Other than that, I am very happy with the Panasonic CF29 for what I use it for.

So, these computers rarely break. But they do sometimes break.

If yours breaks, forget about it. Just go buy a new one.

My computer broke (i dropped it--not from Six feet, but from about the height of my bedside table...)

Panasonic made me prove the warranty by sending a copy of my sales reciept before they would even talk to me about service.

Then they tried to talk me out of having the on site service, saying it would be faster and easier if i just sent them the computer.

The onsite service guy was nice, but had not been trained on how to fix the Toughbooks, so he took it home with him and sent it to Panasonic.

That was a week ago.

The onsite guy said i should leave my hard drive inside the computer.

He called later and said Panasonic would send me a new computer right away.

Then he called back and said that they would not cover accidental damage...and i should have bought one more warranty...

I pointed out that the warranty covered "non-intential damage"...their representative said that while "non intentional" seems to mean "accidental" it does not mean that "accidental" is covered!

The manager at Panasonic promised to look into my case...but never called me back.

One of my warranties included 'overnight' service.

I was later told that "overnight' means next business night, which, on a Friday, means Monday...but because Monday comes after Sunday, Monday means Tuesday...

Anyway, they have my money, and my computer....and this review.

You asked for a review and I will give you one. When the "refurbished computer" arrived, it refused to come on. I had to remove the hard drive and reinsert it. Then battery does not hold charge for more than 1 minute! It is still sitting under the desk. I had to buy a CF-74 from another source and it is working flawlessly. I am so angry and disappointed with the computer, that I did not even call the Proton Computers Inc, the company that sold me the computer. The person that checked it should be fired! I think I call them today, I know it will cost me more to ship it back to them. Amazon is not the culprit here.

The Toughbook arrived late, the explanation I got was the delay was due to hurricane Sandy which was on the east coast. The Toughbook was shipped from California which I thought was on the west coast the last time I checked. According to the tracking number it was in FedEx depot for 6 days in Sacremento Ca.I was told it would be shipped in 5-7 bussiness days at the time I purchased it on line. They lost 6 days before it left California.

Now that I have finally received it, I was offered $20.00 off for the trouble but I do not see where they have reduced the price. On a positive note they did add a touch screen that I did not purchase I don't know if that was the cause for the delay, I do like the touch screen it is very handy, so thanks for that.

My biggest complaint is the battery will not charge. I thought although it was a refurbished computer it would at least have a new (chargable) battery. I let it charge for a full day but I could only get about 2 minutes of life once I disconnected it from the power source. This does not work for me in my field, I do not always have access to power.

I think Amazon should review who they deal with, this is a reflection on you. I will always be cautious in the future when dealing with you.

I bought a refurbished CF-29. It worked about 2 years with no major problems. The W key fell off, which just slows down typing a little. Finally it had power issues and is dead. It's darn slow compared to "modern" computers, and the CD drive never worked very well. It was tough--I used it outside and even in the rain once.

UPDATE: I thought it died, turns out it was just a bad power cord. Back up and runnin' like a champ. Still slower than new models and way less memory. Many minor problems (such as the power cord, w key, and a couple plastic parts that fell off) but overall this thing is a work horse. I'd recommend it if you need tough but have a low budget and you don't have overly demanding computing needs.

I got this laptop at Best Buy considering it was only $402 after taxes and i got it in the store Which beats getting it shipped ( since its not considered for amazon prime as i wrote this i would have to pay for shipping as well..)The AMD APU is great value if your not one of those Hardcore gamers but it is great for value. The cheapest Intel i3 that i saw with the Intel HD 4000 was around 500-600 dollar price range ( the only Intel intergrated gpu i would consider buying from intel. It has 2 3.0 USB ports along with a 2.0 USB port along with HDMI which is great if you want to use it on a monitor ( also a VGA i believe. I can play Diablo 3, Wow ( good settings visually) and also Swtor on it so it does a decent job for games if your willing to play most of them on low :)

I was a bit reluctant to go with Windows 8, however, the motherboard of my 2007 HP notebook [Windows Vista HP OS] died for the second time, so I decided that a good refurbished HP notebook for $335 was worth trying. Several desktop start-up options were tried; settled on StartIsBack which is a great choice to a desktop start-modification [avoids the Metro start screen boxes]. Speed is very good and everything seems to be working well. Was able to get a 3 yr warranty from HP for $175; the only question I had about the AMD A6-4400M was the operating temperature of the CPU [ranges from around 89 C to 130 C, with average of around 115-119 C; though this is hot, the surfaces of the computer are relatively cool. Even without the up-coming Windows 8.1 modification, I expect the software to have fewer potential glitches than Windows Vista.

So far the Windows 8 takes some getting use too. Don't have all the access too everything like Window's 7. You have to download apps for things that should already be on the computer. But it does seem to be faster on the start up. All in all I would rate it a 7 on a 1-10 scale.
