The lenovo u410 is a nice conputer. With its i7 processor it will run smoothly for every task you need it for, and will boost up power with its nvidia dedicates graphics when needed.The design looks great, the trackpad runs smoothly with it's multitouch gestures, and the keyboard will give you a nice experience at typing.
All in all m, you wont regret buying this computer.
it's worth purchasing at such a price as compared to other brands.

I received the laptop in January of 2013. The version I had was the one with the Intel Core i7-3517U and Windows 8. The build date was September 2012, so it should have had the WIFI issues fixed.The good:
-Solid build
-Good screen, though not great
-Very fast processor
-Touch pad is the best I've ever used
The bad:
WIFI was working solidly after updating the Intel Wireless driver. I didn't experience any drops. However, because of the casing of this laptop, the internal wireless antenna is awful. Unless the laptop is close to the wireless router where you get 5 bars, the internet speed will not be good. I did a test with this laptop and my sister's HP A6 Vision One (bargain basement laptop) in the bedroom about 60 feet away from the router. Her laptop got 2 bars of signal but was still able to do 2.6 MBps while the Lenovo did 0.26 MBps!!!
The other negative about this laptop is the keyboard. The keys feel ok when typing, but some of the lower keys like the "c" and the "b" key would not register on the first press. Also, the configuration leaves a lot to be desired. I just could not get used to the small SHIFT key on the right side, along with the small ENTER key on that side. There's absolutely no reason they couldn't have put full size keys on the right side of the laptop. The touch pad, however, is one of the best I've ever used. So that offsets the bad keyboard a little bit.
The laptop has a very solid build, but is very heavy. The specs put it around 4.2 lbs, which is at the top end of an ultrabook's weight. I would say it weighs closer to 4.4 lbs because my Acer Aspire Timeline 4810tz is listed at 4.3 lbs and it is slightly lighter than this Lenovo.
In the end, I returned this laptop and opted for the Samsung Series 5 NP530U4C-A01US (14-inch) ultrabook. I got a "like new" version from Amazon Warehouse for only $530 and it arrived in perfect condition. It's been over a month and I am very happy with this Samsung notebook. It is lighter, runs just about as good as the Lenovo, gets excellent WIFI signal, has a better keyboard, and has a built-in DVD-RW drive.

This laptop is great for those who don't like Apple products and looking for great specifications. Everything is fast and compatible. The size of the screen fits all user kinds. It can be used for daily purposes, computer science students, and for gaming in some cases even though I don't recommend it for heavy games because high heat will come out from the fan. I don't rate it 5 stars because there's primary problem which is the wifi connection. The connection disconnects occasionaly for no reason. It happens 4 to 7 times a day. It's really frustrating. This is my worst decision to buy this computer. Was the first time I was buying a lenovo. The wifi gets disconnected all the time. Just imagine you are in the middle of watching a movie or in a conference call or playing some games. I am thinking of going for anger management counseling. HP Pavilion DM4-1062NR Notebook Pc
So I purchased this from the microsoft store and really love it. Its aluminum case is beautiful and solid feeling. Its fast and gets a 6.6 for windows experience processor and a 4.5 for graphics. In fact I wrote a detailed review on my blog but heres some points in a nut shell. There a couple of emissions of the product discription as it does have the fingerprint scanner and webcam. It seems to be the same as the HP Pavilion dm4-1060us 14.1-Inch Laptop but sold thru microsoft hence the microsoft signature. Microsoft signiture means no bloatware so it should be easier to set up.But mine had touch pad click problems. I initially tried to change mouse settings but it still failed then I called microsoft tech support (its a microsoft signiture) and he told me I was changeing windows mouse settings not driver. When I went to to mouse driver settings they were grayed out but I was able to hit restore default and that corrected problems and got mouse settings ungrayed.
Another low point is that I actualy only get about 4 1/2 hours of battery life for browsing without pluging in so 6 1/2 is very optimistic.
As for bloatware freeI had to download the simple pass finger print scanner software from hp to use the fingerprint scanner and install the hp web cam software. You would think that microsoft would have already installed these programs. The antivirus thats installed is Microsoft security essentials which I like better then norton and they include office starter 2010 a scaled down version of word and excel. They also have a trial version of office 2010. they also have click to install software form hp if you like the hp stuff. But overall its pretty free of bloatware just wish that Microsoft would know what HP stuff is needed and what is not.

Got this on clearance when the newer core i5, core i7 thinkpads came out. Average price/performance. USB ports grouped too close together. Nice plus is the PC Card/Express Card slot. No blu-ray drive at this price it should have one. Too much bloatware although Microsoft Office trial and Thinkvantage Toolbox are easily uninstalled. Video card is decent (ATI Radeon 256 MB) but could be better at this price. Memory difficult to access for upgrades (must remove keyboard).
the PC still works great HOWEVER the replacement fan has to be replaced AGAIN! another $200-!
do they make quality product anymore? a PC should not require fan change once every year!

1. poor initial quality. 3 days after delivery, the MB burned out. had to take in to service center 10 miles away for authorization then waited for 2 weeks to receive new unit from HongKong (i was in US).
2. poor cooling system. 2 yrs after purchase, cooling system (fancy name for fan) malfunctioned causing frequent system shutdown. CPU temp. got to 94C!! warranty runs out in a year, i had to pay $200 to put in a new fan at Lenovo's authorized repair center. tech sez an average fan lasts about 2 yrs! i am like, my Walmart floor fan lasted 10 yrs!!!!
likes:
1. rugged and dull design. easy to travel with especially i am harsh on gadget. i treat computer mostly as work tool. don't like the fancy design with multi color or shapes. Lenovo's black box works to my liking in a strange way.
2. good value for the money. i paid $1,600. came with the entire MS Professional Office, Mcaffee, 64G solid state drive. Core duo at 2.8 GHz. 4mg RAM. i don't need Blue Ray nor recordable DVD. i doubt Apple or HP offers comparable at this price band.
if Lenovo improves on product quality, i will consider buying another Thinkpad in a few yrs.
make a PC hardware problem free for at least 4 yrs... won't you?
Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5279 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Grey)
I actually want to give this laptop 4 1/2 stars, with the 1/2 star removed for combo of low rpm drive (standard on a lot of low to mid-range laptops) and casing that seems a little flimsy (I am used to sturdy Thinkpad case). Otherwise, this is a great laptop performance in both processor and graphics. I replaced the drive (I highly recommend you do this with at least a 7200 rpm hdd) with a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid hard drive so I can't speak much for the existing OS, but I did install all their add on drivers and I do like their wireless identifier at the login screen letting you know you are connected. The windows experience rated everything except my replaced hard drive with a 5.9, not bad at all for a sub-500 laptop!As for testing, I simultaneously backed up a dvd I owned while at the same time converted a movie iso image to an mkv. While the processor maxed out encoding at 27 fps(common enough in encoding) with dvd copy at 4 MB/s the memory stayed at a reasonable level (under half of system memory). I also viewed several blu ray rips I had made from movies I own on my desktop and there was no stuttering or problem handling even the most visually stunning movie. I don't really play pc games so I can't review this, but I'm sure this can handle most 720p 1333x1768 game displays with no problem.
I should also mention I did not pay Amazon's standard price (the factor that tipped me to buying this particular laptop) but even at that price point it beats out the other i3 laptops on the market (and perhaps even some current i5s due to fusion graphics)
I bought this for my wife so hopefully she likes it as much as I do!
Pros:
1. Discrete ATI video card

3. Nice looking
4. Perfectly adequate speed for any normal tasks
5. HDMI out
Neutral:
1. 720P resolution is too low for a 15" screen. Unfortunately, this is nearly the standard on lowand mid-end 15" laptops now, so Toshiba is no worse than most other manufacturers.
Cons:
1. There is no latch or magnet to hold the lid closed -you just close it and hope it stays shut. When you carry it, the lid tends to bang against the base of the laptop because there is typically a 1-2 mm gap between the lid and base due to the lack of any latching mechanism. It does not feel solid and secure at all when carrying it.
2. The screen has worst viewing angle and glare problem I have ever experienced on a laptop, hands down. Granted, my last laptop was a MacBook Pro with a gorgeous IPS screen and cost 3x as much, but I was not prepared for how poor this TFT screen would be when used in even moderately bright indoor conditions, or in just about any lighting conditions when displaying dark images.
3. No backlit keyboard. This is annoying when trying to use it in low-light conditions, but you can't call this a major flaw at this price point.

I purchased this laptop from Amazon and have had it for 2 weeks. This is a relatively new model with a new cpu and a June 2011 release date. My previous laptop was a HP DV6165 an AMD dual core running Windows XP. This laptop blows that one away in every aspect. It comes with a healthy 4 Gb of ram, which is not the max, but it runs Windows 7 very nicely. The WEI is a 5.8 and held back due to the 5400 rpm HD. I am sure with a SSD this laptop would scream. The cpu scores a 6.9 WEI. If you want to validate this, check out the CPU performance charts as a comparison. The AMD cpu in this scores right up there with Intel's I5's and B940's and literally blows away my one sons old Q6600 overclocked (passed down from dad) quad.My desktop is a Intel I-7 with a Crucial SSD hard drive. I have been running Raid arrays in my last three computers. So you can see, I do know a bit about performance. This laptop has got it. I have not tested it for games yet as my gaming rig has dual GTX460's so I probably won't be gaming on the laptop. I don't think you will be disappointed with this laptop. The software on it is not too overdone either. The case is a light gray with a block pattern in it. It is not as pretty as some but for the price it is well worth it.Edit 9/4/11: Just finished watching a movie while ironing some clothes. Played beautifully. To the guy with the gaming problem, there is a video update on the Toshiba website. This may fix your issue. I have not seen it with mine. Minimal games but no issues thus far! I really love mine and am very happy with it. I did increase the ram to 8 Gb with a recent sale from a certain store, new egg for $35. Seems a bit snappier now but it was no slouch before it either.

I love my computer, it's awesome. It connects to the internet extremely well, it is easy to work, and it is super fast! I think that the only problem I have with it is that it's constantly downloading updates, but it is still fairly new, so that makes sense. It's very light and compact, and you can take it practically anywhere. The base doesn't get very warm either, so it won't burn you if you have it sitting on your lap. It's very functional, and everything that I've put on it works great. I recieved my laptop on 21 Aug from Amazon. Its a beauty, simply turned it on, set up the wi-fi and I was away laughing. The performance is fantastic as was the purchase price. I live in NZ and I have had no problems at all using my laptop here. The same item cost 4 times the price of the Amazon deal (shipping and import costs included). So this purchase represented great value.I mostloy surf the net and do a bit of consulting on the side. This laptop is exactly right for the job. Ideal in fact. Highly recommended.

Where do I start, I have been researching laptops for the last 6 months, looking at specs etc. I needed to replace my laptop that has become outdated. I bought a Dell 5 years ago that was just too slow to watch videos, download anything or keep up with all of the new software upgrades. I wanted a laptop with speed, good memory, decent video graphics, large enough hard drive so that I wouldn't be changing it soon. Plus I wanted an expandable computer in terms of memory so that I wouldn't be limited at a really good price.It is a 15.6 inch, 2.3G processing speed and 4G memory, with 320 Hard drive it is fast, you can view most of the HD videos clearly they finally load for me on You Tube..lol I need one also for work at home, since I use it for a lot of number entries. This is one of the best if not the best keyboards w/10 key numeric pad. I have large fingers and it is comfortable and easy to use it is set up just like an adding machine for accountants, or bookkeepers. There is just enough texture and grip of the keys for fast and easy typing. Another thing I loved about it was the gray interior it shows less visible fingerprints and dust for those who don't like the glossy black of most Toshiba's out there.
It was easy to set up I was so worried about how long it would take. I had already had a wireless network so all I did was boot up created a password and sign on, the connected to my wireless network and I was on the net. Yes to some it might have too much bloatware(unnecessary programs) but for those who are not as computer savvy it includes all the files to get you up and running but you need to update them from time to time. The camera is so easy to use and Skype is already set up.
When I bought it was a much better deal it is bright and easy to use for night viewing, especially if you watch movies or download movies online. I have just had it for a month but as long as you have a good registry cleaner program to clean up Windows 7 it should continue to run fast. One downer is I wish Toshiba would come with the Operating System disks included it is irritating to have to copy them on your own.
Overall you cannot get most of the specs like a large comfortable full size keyboard, with a 15.6 inch TruBrite screen, webcam 1.3 pixel, 320G Hard drive, ATI graphics, labelfish for your CD/DVD, 2.3G AMD processor with 4G memory for this price you cannot compare. Plus it is lightweight easy to move from room to room. So far very happy with my purchase.
But they may not mention that two things are in fact annoying.
1. The sound quality on the speakers is awful. If you want to hear music or watch a movie, you'll have to have speakers.
2. The battery life is way short. Usually about an hour and thirty minutes. Keep your plug handy.

I had been looking for a new laptop for quite some time when I came across the reviews on Amazon about this model. I had been advised by a computer-whiz son of mine to look for a Toshiba this time around, since in his opinion (he's a computer engineer) they are well-made and predominantly trouble-free. So when I found this computer, and read the reviews on its performance, I was sold. Now that I've used it for a couple of weeks, I have to agree. It's a sweet computer for the price. The keyboard is great, and since I do a lot of typing, I like how it feels. The Web-cam feature works great. And I love Windows 7 so far. First and foremost I love this laptop! It is great for the things I do every day. I use it to complete assignments and to surf the internet. I have found that though this laptop has HD sound (yes it's awesome) the system speakers do it no justice, they are low and not great quality. I plugged in my earbuds and was blown away!!! I haven't tried it with external speakers yet but I will soon. My second issue is the two USB ports. To remedy that I brought a usb hub. Overall I am loving my Toshiba Satellite L505-E5025. If you are looking for a great inexpensive system, I highly recommend this one. I have the AMD processor and it's working great for me. The L505 was a good choice for me. In the middle of a large dissertation, I had to dump my old beloved 2004 Gateway to keep up with Microsoft's constant system upgrade demands. The Toshiba is a bit heavy for a laptop but it has a solid feel for my mostly desktop use. Mousepad functionality is spotty but I rely mainly on a mouse. It is fast and (thus far) my McAfee installs happen quickly and quietly in the background without my even noticing. My only complaint is the squat dimensions of screen. The 15.6" "Tru-bright" screen is nice and bright, but the screen ratio makes it wide and short. If you are a document writer (vice an Excel jockey or primarily an internet surfer) you are giving up a lot of good screen space for documents. The wide dimensions make for other annoyances ... the power plug and USB port (only 2) with a thumb drive inserted on the right side require that you keep your mouse-arm splayed wide-right. Why not put these ports in the back? Otherwise, for my $540, this is a great machine. I looked at Dells in the same price range and they seem cheap and plasticky in comparison. Unfortunately, we are getting to the age of disposable laptops, in which it is easier to buy a new one than to upgrade. Perhaps cheap and plasticky, low and squaty, are the wave of future.

But!
This Vaio SA 24 GX is very, very noisy, even in ordinary internet browsing. Guy from Sony support said that I need to change my power plan to 'Power saver', but what is the sense in buying powerful notebook and use it in lower performance even on power adapder.
Disappointed. Very.
Will see how it will work in next several days, and, possible, will look for refund options.

Amazing laptop, I have had this for a long time with very few issues. Most issues were from viruses and what not and that does not speak on the craftsmanship of the product. I can not speak for the customer service because I have not had to call them and that does speak for the craftsmanship of the product. Best computer I have ever owned, will buy from this company in the future.
only complaints.. Runs a little hot, its a bit heavy and the clicker on the pad is a a bit stiff and noisy. Otherwise, it was a a great buy. I just upgraded to an Alienware m14x, but I deffinitely plan to keep this one as a backup. This thing is a tank.

I have the x83v model and have had it for the better part of 5 years now. It's lasted through everything and is still firing on all cylinders. My webcam did recently stop working but that's more than understandable after all this thing has been through. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because if used for periods longer than an hour of 2 it gets excessively hot and makes it uncomfortable to type let alone put it on your lap. A great laptop for the price though and the model here comes with a 9600 as opposed to the 9300 gfx card i have.I got this laptop a year ago. I received it used from my brother, and have had no issues on it in the past year. I walk around with my laptop in arm a lot, and it has survived a few falls to the carpet. Although it's a bit bulky compared to some of the newer laptops available, it's very sturdy and I don't find its size a problem.As far as cons to this product, they are few and not very important to me. The laptop does get pretty hot if you use it a lot (I'm on it for most of my waking hours of the day), but this is forgiveable, especially if you have one of those lap-desks for putting a laptop on. The mouse clicker is a bit noisy, but I have a separate mouse I use so this doesn't bother me at all.
Overall, a great laptop. I would easily reccommend this to anyone. ^^
Apple iBook Laptop! 14" Screen G4 iBook 1.42 GHz Processor, 1GB, 60GB, SUPERDRIVE!, WiFi, Bluetooth
I am happy with this computer. I had trouble with some keys not working when I first got it. The keyboard was swapped out and everything was fine. A few days ago I started having trouble when I used the right shift key. Using that shift key caused everything I just typed to disappear. I have been using the left shift key instead and all is well. I will contact the seller for "help" but have not done so yet. The seller has been very cooperative about helping me get used to my new computer and replacing the faulty keyboard. I am just outside the one month warrantee that comes with a refurbished computer. I hope the seller will be able to solve the right shift key malady. I thought getting an Apple laptop for under $400 was reasonable price. I don't know if keyboard problems are common for laptops or if I am just unlucky.
Without question i would/will use them for all my refurbished computers in the future and would encourage others to do the same.

Dell Inspiron 15 i15-N5040 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
My Dell Inspiron 15 N5040 included 3gb of RAM and i3-2.53ghz cpu. I do intend to upgrade the RAM to 8GB but will be adding that separately. Dell's pricing on memory upgrades is absurd. so I just ordered 2x4GB (8GB) of Crucial memory on Amazon for $40. Installing them just involves lifting the keyboard out.For what most people do with their computers in the average day, this laptop is perfect. A lot of people think they need the fastest, newest, most expensive computer out there and nowadays, that doesn't have to be the case. Most of us aren't graphic designers or movie editors, so why spend hundreds more? For web browsing, email, skype calling, watching netflix, photo editing, and even movie editing (better with 8GB memory), I have had no issues at all.
It's a bit plain looking aesthetically, but I don't think that's a bad thing. Compared to the DELL XPS 15z, which I also own, it's only slightly thicker, which I found surprising since Dell has been touting how thin the XPS 15z is. It does have an off center mousepad which I found annoying since I'm used to them being centered. I found myself inadvertently hitting the right button when reaching for the left button. That is just a minor issue though. Another down side is the battery life. The standard battery doesn't last too long so keep the charger handy and stay near power outlets. I've been getting about 3 hours of battery life while web browsing.
I would recommend this to product to anyone looking for an affordable everyday laptop.
But see their are things you have to adjust to.

This is a good basic laptop. It has a lot of potential if you upgrade the ram memory.PROS:
+ Got it brand new for under 500 US$.
+ Intel core i3 is a really good microprocesor.
+ DDR3 memory support up to 8GB of ram.
+ Works well in high temperatures and it does not overheat like HP laptop's.
CONS:
Touchpad sucks.
Only comes with 3GB of ram out of the box.
Neutral:
~ The keyboard is very basic.
~ Screen is ok (it's advertised as a LED screen but i can't see the difference between this and a normal 2008 LCD screen).
I'm happy with this product, but i'll definitely buy a memory upgrade to enhance the performance..

I have no complaints, although making the recovery discs didnt go well. Went thru 4 dvd's and then got a "failure" on the 4th disc. Called Dell support and the tech said this is a known problem and he said to use a 8GB flash drive. Sorry all mine are 4 or 6GB and i'm not going to go and spend money on a 8GB fd just to make up a backup Recovery.Battery life could be better, only get about 4 hours out of it on the basic mode...
Over all this laptop is worth the money, it is fast and so far works great.
Sony VAIO EH3 Series VPCEH36FX/L 15.5-Inch Laptop (Midnight Blue)
This is my 3rd Sony laptop and I don't think I could ever buy another brand. I love the 15.5 inch screen and it handles all media needs well. I use my laptop every day for work and for pleasure and this fits all my needs beautifully.

As the title states I purchased this as a gift for my mother so she can browse the web.Setup was a little slow but everything works fine, it does come with a lot of preloaded software which is annoying but a good uninstall session will fix that.
It came I propped it open, did some first time setup and it was good to go.
