ASUS K52F-C1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Dark Brown)

ASUS K52F-C1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment LaptopJust got the K52F yesterday. I'm using it for school and some movie viewing. I mostly run Office apps, surf the web, and play with Linux. I don't game on my laptops at all so I can't say anything about that. The screen looks great, nice and bright. The touchpad seems to work flawlessly, I've had no problems. It comes with tons of bloatware, but don't they all anymore? None the less, it uninstalled easily enough. It also includes a driver CD, so you could wipe it and do a fresh install if you were so inclined. I just removed the bloat and did the anytime upgrade to Win 7 Ultimate.

My real complaint is the keyboard. It works fine and I have no problem typing on it. It is VERY flimsy though. I was really disappointed by this. I always heard ASUS made quality laptops but this keyboard is cheap. If you pressed anything in the top-right corner of the keyboard (the END key for instance), it would move a LOT and make a "clakky" sound. I popped the keyboard and noticed there were no supports under it at all. The clips hold it down but not all they way down, so it flexes a lot. I made some "supports" out of electrical tape (temporary until I find something more suitable), nothing more than small pads really. That made it more rigid and now I'm happy with it. I still have one area that moves a bit, but I'll fix that when I find something better to support it with.

If you're thinking about getting this laptop, that is probably be the only thing that will bother you. It does seem solidly built...other than the KB.

Toshiba PSAG8U-023019 Satellite A305-S6883 15.4" Notebook

Toshiba PSAG8U-023019 Satellite A305-S6883 15.4' NotebookI've had this laptop for over 2 years now and I love it. I use it daily and I've never had a major problem with it. My charger broke about a year ago, which was frustrating and I bought an aftermarket one from Staples. The charger has loosened my charging port, but that is the fault of the charger... not Toshiba.

The only thing I wish was different was that my key pad light up. Black keys with no backlight make for difficult typing at night.

Apple TD73785W 1.6GHz 11.6" MacBook Air

Apple TD73785W 1.6GHz 11.6' MacBook AirMy MBA arrived really fast and I just love it... Amazing, fast, light and everything I was looking for. I use my MBA 11' for work. The company uses a Windows Terminal Server, and I had no trouble installing the remote desktop connection to work.

I come to work everyday with it and it fits any purse or bag, so that's no trouble at all....

If you are looking for a fast, small and light computer, don't waste your time looking. MBA 11' is PERFECT! Of course, the 128/4 GB version... I read some bad reviews on the 2GB version. But I can assure you that the 4 GB one is just what impatient users like me need... :)

Sony Vaio SVE17312BCXB i5-3210M 2.5GHz 17.3" Notebook

Sony Vaio SVE17312BCXB i5-3210M 2.5GHz 17.3' NotebookIt seems like 99% of the laptops out there are stuck at 1366x768. This offers 1920x1080 for under 2 grand. It's under 1 grand! What more could you ask for! The biggest hinge on buying this was the resolution. Everything else was complimentary. While the battery life isn't outstanding, it's understandable.

Sadly, the Windows key broke on the first day I bought it, but Sony's repair service was prompt on getting it repaired locally. No RMA needed. While it is no Thinkpad I used for years, that is more of a personal preference. The downsides are not of Sony's fault. It has Windows 8 which is better suited for tablets, not laptops or desktop computers. The touchpad is sadly of the newer style 0-button(like on a Mac). I would have preferred a classic 2-button touchpad. A mouse will however suffice.

I never associated a Vaio with the term "low cost", but here we are in 2013. I'm getting a 1080p display on a laptop without breaking my budget.

An unbelievable laptop with all of the functionality and sexiness that I need. I bought this for over 800 a few months back and it was totally worth it! Sony is so quality!

Samsung Series 3 NP-RV515-A04US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Silver)

Samsung Series 3 NP-RV515-A04US 15.6-Inch LaptopI have only had this computer for about a week and haven't had any issues with it and even set it up as a duel boot with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with no problems. The only complaint I have about it right now is the sound, it's not very good but i didn't buy this computer for a sound machine so I am o.k. with that. The graphics are very good which is very important for a laptop computer and the 15.6" monitor is what I really like. For the price, I think it is a very good buy. If things change, I'll write an update to this review. Otherwise, I would recommend buying this laptop. One last comment, the Exclusive Fast Start Technology is great and works as advertised.

Purchased this item during a one day Amazon special for $339 and I am not looking back at all! The processor is not a speed demon but for Office apps particularly LibreOffice just fine. My large LCD television fried and during the time spent waiting for repair I installed the DirecTV app that enables you to stream recorded items to your PC and the performance was flawless.

I've installed VirtualBox and it runs Virtual Machines just fine.

The laptop is large full size keyboard with separate numeric keypad and the screen easy on my older eyes.

Samsung's battery technology has come a long way and even with this economy model, you get 4+ hours on a charge.

While some metal (for strength) on the case would have been nice, for the money I don't think you can go wrong with this unit.

I successfully registered the purchase on Microsoft's site for a $15 upgrade to Windows 8 Professional, although I haven't taken the time to actually do the upgrade yet.

Lastly, the bloatware loaded on the machine was minimal and easily removed. I commend Samsung on their restraint.

I bought this for my wife because she is tired of sharing her laptop with the kids all the time. She primarily uses it to access the web and store pictures. This machine is perfectly fine for those uses. And she likes the way it looks which is important too.

I wouldn't run heavy programs for video editing or anything like that on it, but for basic tasks, Samsung makes a quality product and is sleek. Good battery life also.

I ordered this computer as a back-up to my main computer and for use in my shop so I could keep up with e-mail and stream music off the internet to my shop stereo. At this price point I did not expect a high quality computer but I was pleasantly surprised. I especially like the quick boot feature which takes the computer out of sleep mode in 3 seconds after opening the lid, yet uses no power while the lid is closed. Amazing! If I have to fault the computer, I would take one star away for poor sound quality from the built in speakers. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this computer to any one who wants a quality computer at a budget price.

I purchased this computer about a couple of weeks ago for my husband. He doesn't really do much on computers except look things up on the Internet and play games. He's totally not computer savy in any way, shape, or form. If anyone was going to have a problem with a computer, it would be him. He tells me he "loves it", so we're thinking about purchasing another one for our daughter for Christmas.

I wrote the above paragraph a couple of days ago and I've been keeping an eye out on this computer because I was hoping the price would go down and I could get one for our daughter. Well, it's gone UP instead. I thought Amazon would have deals on Black Friday....well, not in this case. The price increased about $30.

Toshiba Z935-P300 Portege Ultrabook 13.3" Laptop - 4GB DDR3 Memory - 128GB SSD - Intel Core i5-3317U

Toshiba Z935-P300 Portege Ultrabook 13.3' Laptop - 4GB DDR3 Memory - 128GB SSD - Intel Core i5-3317UMy beloved Sony Vaio that weighed only 3 lbs. died after about 5 or 6 years of hard travel and I've been looking for a travel computer ever since. I bought a netbook and it was so slow that I didn't want to use it. Then I read an article about the new ultrabooks and decided to have a look. After checking all of them and reading many reviews, I decided the Toshiba Portege ultrabook was the best choice for me. I have the Portege Z935-P300 and there are probably newer models now but this one is perfect. It was the lightest of the ones I reviewed. It weighs in at 2.5 lbs, actually lighter than my former travel computer.

Some reviews of an earlier model complained about the hinge making it difficult to open without cracking the screen. I have not had any problem so suspect Toshiba has changed the hinge. Mine is a center hinge but runs nearly the full length of the computer. There has been no twisting or cracking of the screen. I packed it in a fairly light canvas briefcase (to keep weight down) and dragged it all over Europe for a month with no problems. It's light enough I could run up and down stairs with it just like a tablet except I could close the top and not worry about finger prints or scratches.

It does not have an optical drive and although I have an external optical drive, I didn't take it on my last trip instead taking a flash drive for backups. That worked just fine and saved a few ounces in my luggage.

It is very fast, boots up in 11 seconds (our engineer daughter timed it). It connects to wifi easily; I had no problems in all sorts of strange places. The battery lasts as long as I could want it too. I had it on battery for 6 hours one day and it was still going strong. I charged it when I had the chance because I never knew what was coming next so I wanted the full battery life.

It is a tough, light, fast computer and better for me than a tablet because I like the full keyboard. It's nice to be able to close it too.

I highly recommend it.

Bought on Black Friday sale for 699.00.

Lightning fast SSD drive although only 128gb, comes with 4gb of RAM (2 fixed) which Toshiba says is upgradable to 6gb. I bought an 8gb stick from Amazon for 40.00 which was a simple install (you need a 7 torx wrench to remove the middle screw)and windows recognized it!

Now a fast computer is lightning fast!

Only downside is the 1366 x 768 screen but I still think it's an awesome deal for the money.

I really like this Laptop. As I say in the title it's everithing you expect from an ultrabook and for a good price. I would only mark as a con the size of the SSD. With Windows 8 and Office Pack you get only 64gb free that it's enough for your jobs perhaps but not for media storage if you want to use it.

i'm happy with the computer. The lack of weight is a real plus factor. I was disappointed that it still came with Window 7 even though I ordered it after Window 8 was out.

ASUS ROG G75VW-RH71 17.3" Gaming Notebook PC - Black

ASUS ROG G75VW-RH71 17.3' Gaming Notebook PC - BlackEnjoying everything about my new laptop, from the back-lit keyboard that can be turned off, to how long the charge lasts. It's quick, screen is easy to view. Keyboard has a positive feel but not stiff. Yes, it's heavy but I wanted it for a replacement desktop so won't be hauling it around. Plenty of ports, pleased they are on the sides so no struggle to use them. Fans are quiet and they are at the back. I've not had any problems with heat, any sort of odd behavior.

Windows 8, well, that's taken longer to deal with and honestly wish I'd purchased the same laptop with Windows 7. Who wants to pay an extra $70.00 for Windows Media Player is one of the easier things to gripe about. But that is on me, not Asus!

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

ASUS U32U-ES21 Ultra-Portable 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

ASUS U32U-ES21 Ultra-Portable 13.3-Inch LaptopAs there are few reviews for this product I was a little wary, but I'm very satisfied with my first laptop. As a university student getting into upper division courses, the ability to take projects with me became a necessity, and since I recently built a powerful gaming computer, I needed something that I would *want* to travel with. After removing a bit of ASUS bloatware that comes with it, it runs pretty smooth. Some of the bloatware is actually nice like the power profiles switcher. All in all it runs faster than I expected with a low-power processor and 5400 rpm hard drive.

First week review:

Battery life is legitimately 7+ hours in battery save mode (which you can tweak).

24 hours in Sleep Mode only cost the battery ~7% charge, and Instant On works as advertised.

Computer is capable of light gaming in performance mode (it runs Dungeon Defenders on low settings).

Hard drive is divided into two even partitions, OS and Data.

Usable RAM is 3.6 GB as 400 MB seems to be dedicated to video memory, which is good.

8-cell Battery keeps laptop slightly lifted, which helps keep it cool, but adds a little size.

It is slim and light enough to compete with an ultrabook at half the price.

Hinge construction feels more solid than it looks. Overall the entire machine feels sturdy.

No optical drive. Helps keep it light and isn't an issue for tech-savvy users, but could be an issue for some.

Yes, there is some keyboard flex, but I have to pay attention to notice it. It would be nice if the keys were backlit, but since the screen gives off light, that isn't really important. The keyboard feels like the cheapest component, but there are zero problems actually using it.

Something to note is the USB ports are an extremely tight fit. It shaved some plastic off of my flash drive getting it into the ports the first couple of times. I've muscled in a couple other USB devices, but it doesn't seem to damage anything.

It's not easy to find a computer this slim and light without buying an ultrabook. This is half the price of even a low end ultrabook, so of course there are some compromises. It's not quite as sleek, the processor isn't that powerful, though it's good enough for most HD video and light gaming. The keyboard has a little flex to it as well. It's biggest flaw is the screen, which isn't that vivid and has poor viewing angles. That's to be expected at this price though. The battery life is very good, about 5-6 hours even with the brightness on high and the wireless on. I didn't want to spend ultrabook money on a laptop, so I was glad to find this.

I really wanted to like this product it has many good features, but sadly, the system has 3* VERY bad points and 3 not so bad points.

Here's the bad;

*1. The viewing angle of the screen is horrible.10 degrees from dead-on at most.YIKES!

*2. The Wi-Fi has no problem finding signals, it just won't stay connected to any of them.

*3. Hard Drive is very slow.

o4. Decals on keys, not laser etched.

o5. Bluetooth is very picky and tempermental

o6. Multi-Finger gestures on the track-pad do not work as advertised.

Here's the good;

o1. Attractive aluminum and ABS-Plastic construction.

o2. Keys operate smooth as silk (despite the decals).

o3. Processor is quite efficient once all the crapware is uninstalled.

o4. Plays back video gloriously

o5. Two USB 3.o Ports!

o6. Can run three monitors at once. Wow!

o7. Plays semi-recent games at medium settings

o8. Sound is low but very clear.

o9. Thin Sleek Profile

If the 3 of the 6 bad points had not been so serious, I would strongly consider keeping this laptop, but the viewing angle is so poor that I strongly recommend that people look else where. AND that's a shame, b/c ASUS went to the trouble to design and build a fine computer out of decent materials, but then shot themselves in the foot by coupling the system to such a low grade glossy screen with dismal viewing angles.

This is a good effort, but ultimately a poor execution on ASUS's part. After working with this laptop for a couple of daysThe defective Wi-Fi, agressively low quality screen, and an annoying trackpad issue make this laptop a dud. Had to send it back.

Pros:

Battery life is amazing! 6 hours of full use and charges up again in less than an hour.

Full size Keyboard.

Good size mousetrack, comfortable position and features apple-like touch controls, zoom in and out, two finger up and down that's great!

Very thin body and light weight (except battery)

Screen size is great for work and small enough to be portable.

Great low price!

Cons:

Aluminum color is NOT like the picture. Is way darker.

Battery is not flat, has a elevated part that helps ventilation, but make the back of the laptop bulky.

Mouse click sound is very loud (I'm that picky)

Sound comes very low but can be fixed, now it loud enough.

This is a beautiful, thin, ultra portable laptop. Great value for the money!

So, the first thing I did when I got my new ASUS U32U-ES21 was format the drive and install ubuntu on it. So far, it's been fantastic!! I've been a little too busy to play around with the integrated video card yet (and I know Radeon GPUs aren't supposed to work all that well with Linux in general), but it at least plays videos, flash, and streaming videos all seemlessly. The only downfall of this computer so far is that REALTEK still doesn't have a Linux Kernal 3.0+ driver for it's multi-card reader, but everything else seems to work. Viewing angles are crap, but I'm used to that and the screen is twice as bright as my last laptop, so I'm not complaining. What I really love about this laptop is the battery life. I can work on it continuously for about 6 hours before it dies. That's truly incredible.

Toshiba Satellite L505-S5997 TruBrite 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - 2 Hours 25 Minutes of Battery Life (

Toshiba Satellite L505-S5997 TruBrite 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - 2 Hours 25 Minutes of Battery LifeTHE GOOD: is functions pretty well ,and is very fast with 4 gig memory and dual core processor.

THE BAD : The finish on the inside and out is way too glossy...just like glass...it shows every fingerprint..and need to wipe it down after every use..or it looks really dirty.

It is really heavy..if placed on lap..it would cut off circulation..wish I checked it out in store first..because it weighs a ton.

Cant get BlueTooth option to work with my Bluetooth Keyboard or my other BlueTooth enabled PC.

Called Tech support..got a guy in India who was worthless...could hardly understand or hear him ..very bad phone connection.

Given the glossy surface and heavy weight would not recommend it as a laptop.

Consumer reports did recommend alot of Toshiba laptops as being more reliable then Dell, HP etc.

This laptop totally sucks. The speaker sucks and the printscreen doesn't work.

It has no bluetooth.

If you are a music lover i would not recommend this to you.

I wish I would have never bought a Toshiba and I will never buy another one

I wish I could return it.

psplease excuse my grammar. I am only 12 years old. most people won't bother to read my reviews if they know this.

I bought my first laptop 20 years and have thus far been through about 12.

In my educated opinion ( I repair computers for a living)this is on of the nicest, most full featured computers out there. I use a High End Sony VIO for my most difficult work but I keep a second machine to use in the field. The HDMI output is fantastic (I subscribe to Netflix) and hook this baby up giving a FABULOUS picture on a 60" screen!I also LOVE the feature that lets you log in using Facial recognition. I personally have many confidential files and trust me nobody and I mean nobody can get access to this machine but me. There is a "backdoor" way of getting in but I put in a 21 character password, just in case I grow a beard or something. Trust me, if you are in the market for a laptop costing less than $500.00 then this is the one. I give it 5 stars because it is top of the line in that price range. I have ordered 12 for resale and already have 3 "presold"

To be fair, all budget-lines laptops are forgoing user manual booklet nowadays. There is a PDF version of the user guide on the computer. You need to know how to get to it.

Asus is very good with their laptops, their machine always feel slim and not too bulky compare to some of the other brands. They invented netbook (eee-PC) after all. I saw on pcmagzine this laptop scored 4.9 out of 5 on user rating.

TLDR: don't let the lack of user manual book & recovery CD discourage you, I guess there is a reason why GeekSquad are so successful. The laptop is great.

The graphics and speed of the machine is great. There are several drawbacks as mentioned. One is the size and sensitivity of the touchpad. The palm of the hand is constantly setting off the touchpad and sending the mouse on errands unintended. The solution is to turn it off and go wireless. Another problem was the keypad location of the number "0." It is shorter and is directly under the 2. On regular keypads across the nation the "0" extends and is resting under the 1 and 2. It takes some getting used to. I bought it for the graphics card to play games with. For that purpose it is Excellent. If it wasn't for the other drawbacks I would have gave it a five star rating.

I bought this for a friend who needed a computer to do everything but had a small budget. This laptop is really a hell of a value for the price. Screen looks great, build is sturdy. It has everything you need, except maybe blu-ray. Yes, it's not the absolute fastest, but it's still pretty fast. And guess what just a few years ago, top of the line computers weren't even as fast as this one, and we did just fine. For the price of a top of the line computer, you can buy like 4 of these. You really can't beat that deal! I just feel bad wondering what slave labor must have been involved to keep the price so low.

I thought I dont need much. Stream a few movies check a few emails. Wow..No idea it was possible for anything to be this cheap. Speakers are no where near loud enough so I have to plug in powered speakers or head phones. No big deal in itself but the jack or plug doesn't get a good connection. Jiggle jiggle jiggle then stabilize the wire so it doesnt hang and cant move....I wont continue with everything I have done trying to keep the sound but it is the cheap computer. I know this because I have tried 2 sets of head phones and 2 pair of speakers and none of them work properly. Watching hulu or netflix it pauses 4 to 30 times an hour. It has froze up several times in the first 3 months of having it...OH 2 days here and a button or key just fell off it. I have no idea what it was ...3rd on left from the space bar. Sometimes its dial up slow and I have high speed-comcast. Yuppers, ya get what ya pay for. However this has been crap since day one so if they dont even make an effort to put out a quality product on their cheaper stuff there is no way compaq will ever get any more of my money in the future.
