I really liked everything about the way the computer was built and the way it looked. Speed was reasonable. The only thing I thought could of been better was the resolution. I realize this comes at a cost so I rate this a 4 out of 5.

It is a great product and gives quality gaming experience. The GTX 675m isn't the best card around anymore but still it holds great power and it is powerful enough to run all games that were released during 2011 at their max settings, It does seem like the graphics card is starting to get left behind as games such as Far Cry 3, Crysis etc. keep pushing the limits of pc gaming, but I can say that this graphics card will also be able to give you a great experience through those graphically intense games.But enough about graphics, a laptop offers more than just that and I can say that this laptop delivers. The Dolby Home Theater sound system is great and it gives clear quality sound, great for gaming if you do not like using headphones, the system itself is pretty fast thanks to Intel i7 and the keyboard is one of the most comfortable ones I've ever used.
The screen is excellent, it is large and gives great color and brightness, I can say that it is one of the best screens out there for laptops, it even could be the best, the 1080p display does not disappoint especially the 120Hz support gives us beautiful fluent visuals. 4 USB inputs and all sorts of other ones such as VGA, HDMI etc. give great support for multimedia needs. Like that was't enough it also comes with a Blueray disc reader. The laptop also presents us with different modes with different situations, library, reading, balanced and gaming. All modes have their own different settings and work great.
The only problem I had with this laptop was that it has windows 8. Now, I am aware of the hate against the OS but after you get used to it, it is obvious that under the hood it's very similar to the other windows OS's and it even provides us with more variety since it supports apps. I have a Kobo account for books and it's great that I can use it with my computer to read books along with other apps such as Comixology and Tunein Radio. It can be confusing at first sight but once you get used to it Windows 8 won't be causing you much trouble anymore and you may even start liking it. But there are still some glitches here and there which I'm sure will be taken care of in time. It is a fast OS and with patience to learn, it can be satisfying.
This laptop for it's price gives more to it's buyers than other laptops do. I was actually torn between this and the Alienware M17x and decided to go with this since it had more features for the price. But it is still a fact that the Alienware M17x presents a more capable graphics card, yet like I said, the GTX 675m is still pretty capable, combined with the 16 gigs of RAM and the Core i7 this laptop is ready for gaming. If you know how to Overclock and also use the Razer Game Booster application you'll get even greater results. At the moment I tried out a few games such as Saints Row The 3rd and Crysis 2 and I am pleased with the performance. Saints Row the 3rd can be played at max settings on 1080p like butter and Crysis 2 with Vsync turned off never dips under 40.
If you are looking for the absolute graphics beast laptop, than you should try out an Alienware which will probably breakdown fast on you and won't be presenting other features than just graphics. But if you are looking for a laptop that is strong on all the fields, speed, ram, graphics, sound, memory, picture etc. than I'd say give this one a chance because it deserves attention. Plus if you are not satisfied you can always do a return and than get yourself another laptop. I hope this review has been helpful.

Alan Wake: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Anti-Aliasing off.
The Amazing Spider-man: Can be Played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Vsync turned off and Anti-Aliasing on low.
Farcry 3: It is slow on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice playing on High settings with Anti-Aliasing and Vsync turned off or playing using Dx9. Otherwise you can experiment with the settings to see wether you can get 30+ FPS by lowering specific settings.
Max Payne 3: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, keep MSAA turned off.
Serious Sam 3: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Vsync turned off.
So far so good, no game gave me issues except for Farcry 3 and I believe that is mostly due to the games' bad optimization for mobile Gpu's. I advice keeping AA and Vsync off as much as you can on 1080p since AA does not make much difference on such resolution and if a game supports it play using 120Hz refresh rate because it's definitely much better than the average 60Hz refresh rate.

UPDATE: after about three weeks of not too heavy use, the backspace key fell off. Samsung wanted me to mail it to a repair station in Texas. Still within the return period, so I'm sending it back to Amazon to get another one. Despite the problem, willing to try another one of these; otherwise, it's a great piece of kit. Worst part of it, honestly, are the HDDs, but they seem to be easily changeable.--------------
I've had this laptop for about a day, and so this is by necessity a first impression; I'll update it later once I've had it longer.
The build quality is superb. I'm not sure if there's any metal in this, but it's high-quality plastic with an attractive finish. The images don't really show that the visible surfaces when the lid is open are a shiny brushed gunmetal gray. It looks and feels good. The shiny closed lid is also good-looking, but picks up fingerprints like crazy. Not really a big deal for me.
The keyboard is perhaps the best laptop keyboard I've ever used. The keys are dished and fairly long-travel, and are probably as close to the feel of a separate, desktop keyboard as is possible to get on a laptop. The keyboard layout is reasonably full, though there doesn't appear to be any way to send a BREAK without remapping. This is only really a concern for software developers using the standard keybindings in debuggers.
The screen, as others have said, is beautiful. Samsung's a big maker of laptop displays as well as monitors and flat-screen TVs, and this laptop is a great advertisement for their quality. It's bright, desktop-like, with great color and clarity.
The graphics chipset is capable of running World of Warcraft on 'Ultra' graphics settings at 60fps+, even in 40-per-side battlegrounds and 25-man raids. That's about as demanding as I get with graphics, and it's wholly up to the task. There are more expensive laptops with the more powerful NVIDIA GeForce GFX 675MX or 680M chipsets out there, but none of them are this affordable, and most of them make worse compromises in terms of weight, size, heat and looks.
Don't mistake, this is a big laptop. However, its styling hides its bulk quite effectively, and the wedge shape means it's comfortable to type on. It's also substantially smaller and lighter than the Alienware 17" offerings, let alone the 18" behemoth.
I thought before getting it that the rotary mode switch on the side was a gimmick, but it's actually quite useful. The settings for each mode are very customizable, and the modes are well-chosen to match common laptop usages. Certainly a lot easier than digging in Control Panel to switch between power modes!
When not in Game mode, this laptop is also admirably subtle. It doesn't scream 'Gamer Laptop!' unless you want it to, unlike most alternatives. You could take this into a sober business meeting and not draw too much attention.
If I had to carry this around every day, it'd probably be too heavy, but my personal laptop usage is as a movable desktop replacement, and this fits the bill. It can be easily packed up and moved, but it needs a substantial backpack and you certainly feel the weight.
For my needs, this is the perfect machine. The only real criticism I could lay on it is that it would be majorly improved by having SSD options, but I suspect the next revision of the hardware will. It does have a small caching SSD onboard, however.
Strongly recommended for the demanding user seeking a desktop replacement with no compromises on computing power and wanting something a bit more subtle than an Alienware.

It's about a year now since I've used this laptop and guess what. It's still amazing as ever.I get to play all the awesome games like heart of the swarm, bioshock, call of duty, dead island riptide etc, and they all run smooth, and laptop is very silent and never gets hot.
But by the way, the reason why I'm updating this review is because mostly people talk about the specs, but I wanted to talk more about how comforting physically it is to use this laptop. The laptop has a keyboard that almost feels like typical desktop keyboard with an actual satisfying feeling of press and guys with big hands like me can use it. Most thin form factor laptops use pebble style like macbook. There's no problem using such keyboards, but this samsung gamer laptop has one super comfortable keyboard. Hours of usage and your wrists arent tired compared to flat style laptops. I just hope Samsung comes up with a new gaming laptop and I would definitely up for that one as well.

So I've used the laptop since last August, and here's my opinion so far.
1. Hardware
pros
-fantastic screen clarity and brightness, size
-keyboard not cut down to fit laptop, but feels just like typical desktop keyboards (very comfortable)
-Dual cooler. it sometimes got slightly warm, but you'd never feel hot. great cooling system. but it does get hot when you play in a warm, hot environment. just play far away from the heater (obviously).
-speaker is fairly great and decent with light bass. it's at a decent level that unless you got a nice subwoofer speaker from bose, laptop's own speaker would suffice your usage.
cons
-heavy. even though I knew it was going to be heavy and big, I thought I could carry it around for work to other states. turns out it's better not to attempt that. can be considered as thick and heavy. power bar is the size of a brick.
-there's lighted up turbo icon above the keyboard. it has no use but doesn't really look cool either. different design or something cooler on next version.
final thoughts on hardware
-very sturdy and greatly designed laptop that can be used for a long period of time without discomfort that only downside is its thickness and size, but pros cover cons.
2. Features
-they got those four modes using dials. you will never use it. at least I didn't. always put them on game mode because I play games, but didn't really feel much difference and feels fussy switching whenever you're word typing and then play crysis, etc etc.
3. Power
-After 6 months of heavy, very heavy usage, everything still boots up instant, and loading is fast. I can still easily run Farcry3 on high and that applies to basically any games. there are no limits to this machine in current era. whatever you want to play will be playable on midhigh to very high.
Conclusion
-After several months, the laptop still greatly satisfies me, and always feels very comfortable to use.
who is this for: heavy gamers, or IT employees requiring processing power. or if you want something really cool at a decent and cheaper price from Amazon
who should stay way: people who want to travel with it often.

I was kinda hesitant about buying a laptop to replace my 4 year old media/gaming pc. I wanted something that I could connect to my tv in the living room for my main source of entertainment since I play a reasonable amount of games and use Hulu for shows. Also I wanted something that I could take with me and have the same great experience on the road. As of right now I have my gaming mouse and keyboard connected to the device. When setting up Windows, the keyboard on the laptop felt really well positioned and very east to type on. The screen on this looks amazing and a lot of my friends that see it can vouch for that. Being that its a Samsung screen i'm not surprised on how great it looks. What I'm more shocked about is that Samsung makes a great laptop. Ive owned a few Samsung devices in the past such as tvs, phones, and tablets and loved them all. When it came to computing I always stayed with my "goto" brands HP or Asus. Its only been about a week of owning this and I've thrown Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Torchlight 2, and Deus Ex Human Revolution at it and it seems to run everything on high really well with a high frame rate. I was kind of amazed on how good Guild Wars 2 ran because for some reason that game benchmarks a bit low on other systems. I was getting a reasonable 50-60 fps in major hubs so no complaints there. All in all I know for $1500 I could have built a pretty monster PC but I wanted the mobility and I believe I made the right choice. If your looking for a great laptop this is hands down the best price I've seen and I'm glad that Samsung is stepping up to the plate in gaming mobility.Save 4% Off

Have used Sony laptops for over 15 years, my prior ones all still work going back to Windows ME & 98!! I have had this i5 VPCZ1 series unit for 2 years. It's the first Sony where I have had troubles. The unit is really fast with the SSD & Windows 7 Professional. The screen is absolutely stunning and the whole unit is light. With a separate graphics chip it is perfect for heavy photographic work. BUT, this is the first Sony unit where one of the hinges broke and it is attached to the thin rim at the bottom of screen (and that's a REALLY BIGGER problem)!!! Also, there is now a bad connection for the whole keyboard. IT DOES NOT WORK. So the only way you can type anything is with a separate Bluetooth keyboard. A mouse with donagal works, but you need an OUTSIDE keyboard to type in the password to start the computer! So on this model, the case is really flimsy and constant use will stress the small hinges and they can split easily. I am surprised at Sony for this because I really love their computers and never expected, after owning so many of them, to find this i5 unit with such shoddy workmanship. I've looked at the new i7 4th generation Ultrabook Pro 13 series to buy...... BUT TO MY SURPRISE, it appears to have the same hinges!!! That one is over $2,000 with the large SSD but watch out for the hinges to go first.

Hal, from 2001 had taken over the software on my pc nd I couldn't open or send docs from the 2003 instalation. I sent for the nominally pricedreplacement disc and had my misgivings. It worked perfectly. saving me a lot of anxiety and money.

Bought one of these for $2000 with the best memory and options.8 months down the roadthe CD/DVD/ LightScribe drive no longer works, 1/3 of the USB drives no longer works. The tracking pad makes my fingers raw, and when I plug in the mouse, its erratic as well. If you are at a desk, plan on using the unreliable wireless anyway, because the port for a wired cord is in the right front, which means if you are using a mouse you knock the internet cord out all the time. I got the best memory available for this computer and it still runs Vista at a glacial pace. The touchscreen is cool, except no matter how many times you calibrate it, your writing appears 1/2"-1" away from where you intended it.
My 4-year old Mac runs better. Look at different computers, this one isn't worth the money.

Overall this is a nice laptop especially for the cost. There's a couple things to consider.If you're looking to do a lot of drawing, keep in mind the pen is not pressure sensitive, so it's more limited than a drawing tablet.
The page up/down keys are up at the top rather than the more intuitive location next to the arrow keys.
The touchpad surface is not as comfortable to use as other laptops I've owned, but with the pen and touch screen, you don't have to use it as much.

While I love the design, the touchscreen, and the tablet capability, it's not worth the money. Numerous times I had to replace the adapter, it repeatedly got viruses eve with protection, and after less than a year the laptop simply gave out. Save your money! Don't buy this piece of junk. Serious design flaw with the mother board....just do a google search on the TX1000 line regarding mother board failure and you will see. Mine went bad after 2 years. Save your money and get an ASUS net book.

well, it wasn't BLACK, it was WHITE, which is okay, i don't really care about color.however it WAS advertised as "REFURBIISHED". i looked up Amazon's definition of 'Refurbished', and i don't think this product met the criteria. Specifically, the cable from the power supply was twisted into a dramatic pretzel shape throughout its entire length, and the outer jacketing had begun to disintegrate, revealing the ground braid around the inner conductor. Also, there was no original packaging with the product. Other than that, i didn't find any obvious defects. "Used, Fair condition, power cable shows some wear" would have been a more honest description.

I have this little netbook. Its great for basics like internet,video chat,internet radio,basic gaming,and email. The ssd is very small of 8 gig. Also with Win XP Home on it from the install CD it is very slow. More ram helps,but best to install Joli OS,Leeenix,Puppeee,Android X86, or Win XP Pro from install cd. I did this and now it flies with 1 gig of ram! Cause it is small,it is kinda hard to type on unless you have small hands. I love how small it is and easy to carry.With external combo drive,you can watch DVD or burn CD's.
I use mine in my room just for basics.
I bought mine refurbished for $129,but just bought another used one for $89.

This was one of the first netbooks that actually worked with a trimmed down version of XP.It was largely limited to CPU and power consumption though.
Played back upto regular DVD resolutions (720x512 pixels), or 480pix; when overclocked using EEECTL plays back some 720p video, though most is with lagging.
Qua games, most DX9 games on a low resolution can be played on it, and in a limited way Dosbox games can be played too.
The best about this netbook is it's blazing fast SSD,
The worst is it's small sized 8GB SSD.
This netbook needs an SSD and RAM upgrade.
A 2GB 667Mhz DDR2 SODIMM ram stick works fine, Some 800Mhz SoDimm sticks I tried do hang up on them though (meaning freeze or crash)..
Aside from that, it still works great as a home theatre projector driver for standard DVD-quality video's and TV shows (at 800x600pix).
Also as bittorrent client, or personal webserver; or even as a basic midi router/samplebox!
But the device is largely outdated, and you constantly need to struggle with harddisk and ram space issues.

I bought my laptop in late April or early May of 2011 on EBay (brandnew). As advertised, it boots up in seconds. The picture is crisp clear. The numeric keyboard is a plus. But from the very start I had problem with power button. Sometimes it would start and shut down within a second. As time passed it happened more frequently and then it would happen three times before I could get it started. I called and sent it to Samsung (they provided UPS label); they returned it stating it had been fixed. It was not. I sent it back again asking for a different laptop with similar specifications. They refused to replace it; but, they fixed it. Within a few months the problem reappeared. Of course, each time I had to move all the data to an external disc and remove all my passwords and reconfigure it upon return. I have a washer/dryer from Samsung and the dryer has the same problem. I bought the AMD to compare it to my buddies i5 processor in the same model, plus I'm more of an AMD fan anyways. It seems to hold its own on the hardware side of the field. I'm not a huge fan of the illuminated "HP" logo on the cover(it never turns off, even in power saver). The lid cannot be opened with one hand which is also slightly annoying, due to the fact that you will have to pick it up almost every time you want to open it. I like windows 7 with it, good functionality, with more options. Upgrading to 7 Ultimate was tough. Most of the drivers didn't work after I reinstalled them and caused my left speaker to stop working. I would stick with the OS that comes with it(Home Premium x64), if I did it again. Other than that, the 640GB HD is a great size and eliminates the need to use external drives for at least a while. The casing is also pretty durable. I'm deployed and I've carried it all over Afghanistan with minimal cosmetic damage. The keyboard is nice and the large size of the screen leaves more room for the "10 key". I would recommend this laptop for anyone below "serious gamer" and above "internet junkie". Great for media, work, and general use.
The screen display is great.
The keyboard is super easy to clean.
As for the sound it's not that great. What can you expect from small built in speaker boxes? But if you use some really good earbuds, head phones, OR seperate speakers, the sound gets even better!
The built in mike and web cam work good.
The processor is super fast.

This laptop is huge huge huge and I LOVE IT! Omg, I really am glad that I read reviews on all different kinds and picked this one. Some people I noticed said they had a problem with the keyboard. I see what they are saying just because it is spread out more which I love! My fingers don't get in the way at all. This is really a great laptop, and I recommend it to anyone that loves facebook and games. So glad I bought this one!!

I'm enjoying this computer and so far, after a couple of weeks, I'm having no problems with it. Windows 8 takes some getting used to but it's easier than I expected. When I go into normal programs I use the desk top which is readily available in the start menu. I don't use all of the programs in the start menu by choice. Some of them are great. Others I just have no interest in. The display is beautiful and sharp. As of now I am very happy with this purchase. I would give it a 5 star rating but it's to new.

I purchased the HP Pavilion dm1-4210us 11.6-Inch Laptop to use while traveling. My HP Pavilion p6-2108p Desktop remains my primary PC and I also consider the dm1-4210us to be a back-up to it because it has a 500GB HD. The HP dm1-4210us is a very nice little laptop; I wanted something small enough to watch my own movies/listen to my music on a plane or in a hotel, light and easy to carry and good to check e-mail. This laptop fits the bill. My most serious complaint is the built-in speakers. The HP BEATS audio hype led me to expect some pretty good sound but these speakers are just too small to deliver. I guess that's why they sell the BEATS headphones. I'm going to make do with some headphones and a set of portable speakers. I also wish manuals were included in the box; I don't like printing out 40+ pages at home. Other than that, I am still trying to figure out my battery life. Initially, the indicators said I had about 4 hrs of battery life, considerably short of the 7 advertised and my expectations of 5-6 hrs. Today I found I had over 5 hrs of battery life indicated, more in line with what I expect. The touchpad is a bit tricky but not a problem after a short while. I did buy a wireless mouse to use when space permits but I'll be OK without it. I'm really happy with my HP Pavilion dm1-4210us and can highly recommend it.ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS 2 MONTHS IN: I'm still happy with my purchase but concerns about speed have cropped up. The dm-1 was taking a while to boot up until I got ruthless about start-up programs. It can also be slow responding while web-surfing if too many background programs are running. A key to this laptop is getting it set-up properly. The HP external speakers make a big difference in the sound quality. I really like the HDMI output to put my movies on my 32" TV.

I love the whole DM1Z series and was one of the first adopters a year ago, got a new model a week ago DM1Z-4200 Customized.
Here you see a ship-ready (preconfigured model) but its basis is same as for my customized DM1Z (I selected E2-1800 processor instead of stock 1200).
Immediatelly I removed Harddrive & replaced with Crucial SSD, sold HDD (note: HDD is 5400 rpm speed, unlike my HP Elitebook's whose HDD is 7200rpm also coupled with SSD except it's Intel-branded).
I paid $30 more for a custom config.
People who waste money on MacbookAir need a life that product is so much about appearance & hype than function, likewise iPhone fad is a fad Motorola Atrix and Samsung galaxy beat iPhone into the dust.
But I am a dry technical professional so I don't represent teenagers, kids of housewives who think anything made by Apple is "good".
This HP is a dirt-cheap superNetbook or subNotebook whcihever term is preferred.
"super" is because it is NOT based on Intel-Atom, but is based on much better (for Netbooks only) E2-1800 processor which offers discrete-class Videocard, this little tiny supernetbook has video capability of a full blown midrange laptop.
While I do serious work on HP Elitebook that machine costs like a used car ($2K), requires ACpower (it eats battery in 4 or some hours due to crazy hi-end video), it has nVidia, weighs and sizes like a mobile workstation. That's fine. BUT for travel and fun computing on the go I got this DM1Z.
Sometimes I feel weird because some days even prefer using this DM1Z instead of a powerful Elitebook which sits at home.
DM1Z will run for 8-11 hours depending on how good you are with power management settings & wireless & video use, which far better than MacbookAir which is using Intel core i3/i5 processors more suitable for fullsized laptop than ultraportable laptop or netbook which is what MacboorAir or HP DM1Z are. Macbook air will die in 5-7 hours, and IF YOU NEED Intel core i3/i5 processing power I just had a thought, why not get a normal laptop then? Netbook is supposed to be optimized for portability, weight, batterylife and connectivity; in this case DM1Z is also optimized for imporessive Video card rivaling many normal-sized laptops. I run even Adobe Photooshop, YouTube, etc and all this multitasking is tolerable, not same experience as on HP EliteBook but still UNEXPECTEDLY good for a $400 netbook!
E.g. I set brightness to minimum.
Also I applied antiglare film to mimick HP Elitebook & other PROFESSIONAL displays which are always Antiglare, unlike consumer cheap type which is glossy to attract fools.
Not having an option for antiglare screen is my only complaint but really film costs $10-15 (HiDef version) and no big deal, besides many people aren't using it for business like myself and actually prefer glossy/glare screen.
P.S. Changing TN LCD to IPS type LCD would increase laptop price by $50 or so, and as a side note to HP's management:
I WOULD PAY FOR IT if it were available
IPS is a must for professional graphics work (e.g. CAD, photography).

I bought this laptop for college so I could have a laptop for basic computer needs. I've had it for over year and I can say I'm not impressed. A few months ago I started having problems watching HD videos online. They would randomly start stuttering constantly. The laptop just feels very cheap and it was built very cheap. My DVD drive broke after putting it in my back pack. Even though the laptop was asleep the DVD drive opened and it broke.The keyboard feels very cheap. Can't play any games well. I have had this laptop for about a year, and have had all kind of issues with it. I purchased it from another website.Windows 7 was a disaster, the program kept giving me problems from the beginning. The wifi connection isn't working properly, it goes in and out constantly, even though I am not moving around at all. In fact I sit right next to the modem. It's not cheap, and for the money I am sure there are much better laptops available. It is functioning as I expected. It is fast. Windows 7 is excelent. The vertical dimension of the screen was smaller than I expected.

It was right before Christmas when I bought this laptop and what caught my eye was the price considering everything you get for the price.First of all the screen is a whopping 17.3 inch widescreen with an awsome color display. On top of the display is an integrated webcam with microphone which I have used from time to time without any problems. Just below the unit are the controls for power, sound, media controls and WIFI. The only button really is the power all of the other buttons are touch sensitive. Just below this you will find the speakers which are decent however the quality could be better but I am satisified for what I do with this laptop. Below the speakers is the full keyboard with numeric keypad just to the right and below this is the touch mouse pad. On the back of the monitor you will find a lighted HP logo and just below that you will find the removable battery.

After I purchase my unit I upgraded some of the components and actually replaced the 500GB hard drive with two 250 solid state drive which reduced the weight and temperature just a bit but the drives allows Windows to boot now in less that 15 seconds! I also upgraded the memory to 8GB and Windows 7 from the Home version to the Ultimate version.
This laptop works great for what I do which is studying (why I chose the large display), Internet & email, music, visual studio programming and from time to time I will watch a movie. I have not had any problems with the unit since I bought it, to me it does just what I need.
This is a very big laptop and you may have some challenges with weight, heat and finding an adequate bag to carry everything in and because I do significate traveling I wanted something close to what I have at home and this is very close and allows me to work, study or play very comfortly.
Remember laptops tend to be items where personal values dictate your needs so this may not be the unit for you. Also because these are mechanical devices you can experience problems while others do not so I always recommend dealing with a company that will stand behind their product.
Would I recommend you purchase this laptop? No, this is a decision that you must make.
In January I bought two (in two diferent stores) and less than a couple of months both machines had the main board and video chipset completely fried by it's own overheat! Some technicians I consulted told me that there isn't proper ventilation coolers on the video chipsets, so if you plan to use the blu-ray driver very often it will fry the maiboard.
Just connect the facts: there isn't offers of New DV7-3065 in stores. Amazon only offers refurbished ones. It's hard to find information about it even on HP website. I bought two machines, in two different stores (the second a week later than first) and the two laptops have had the same problem!
I'm even more unlucky because I live outside US and HP doesn't extend warranty overseas. I had to spend about US$340 for each one to have it fixed (almost the half price I've paid) and I'm not sure if the problem will happen again. I'm definetly going to resell it on ebay or similar.
Don't buy this junk, unless you are needed to an egg frier! It should be very good on it!

I bought this computer about two months ago for basic video and HD uses. Although I no longer have the use for the Bluray DVD player, I love this computer. The only problems I have had were based on using too many applications of windows explorer at the same time. I haven't taken any of the HP extra software off of this machine and suggest not doing so. There is a remote control that works great and fits into the side of the computer in the express card slot for using the DVD player. The computer would run faster without this software, but I have no need for a screamer. I play a few games to include flight simulator but I just turn down the graphics a little and it runs fine. I purchased this computer refurbished for $569 and have been more than satisfied. The HDMI out has been super useful in that I connect netflix to my other TV for movies. All in all this is a great computer for moderately complex programs. Photoshop CS3 runs fine as well as all of the graphics software that was included. It includes great software: Corel Photo Shop Pro Photo X2, Corel Video Studio 12, a Cyberlink suite that includes Powerdirector V7, and Power2Go, Labelprint. I had no clue these programs were included and they are definitely an added bonus. This is a solid video/graphics machine that delivers with software and hardware. bought this DV7-3065DX second hand & repaired it these models overheat easily & crash readily along with poor speakers don't leave much to be desired.but when you consider hdmi out, supermulti light scribe Blu-ray optical drive with an port for a second hard drive these option's alone in late 2009 puts this machine in rare company I've decided to make it mine even though my hpdv2610us has a 14" screen and way better speakers it's still only entry level.

It gave me an issue after 3 wks of owning it. I had to call HP Support and pay them to fix it. Seller would not help nor help pay for the extra I had to pay to get fixed. But love the computer. I should have went with the refurbished one because by time I paid HP Support I paid close to the same amount. But HP walked me through steps to fix it so I won't have that problem again. Haven't had any issues since then.

Overall a great laptop for the price. It's fast with good wireless, and a crisp, bright screen. Having USB near the power cord leaves one less thing sticking out when using a thumb drive.As with any low-cost option, there are a few quirks, mostly with the input devices. The Synaptics Clickpad is genuinely annoying, but easy to get used to. No tap zones, so I remapped the left button to a middle-click to get that functionality. The Touchpad Disable Zone keeps the cursor from moving every time you try to click. The keyboard is missing number pad access, even with the Fn key, so no Alt-codes are available.
Look, I work on PCs and I ran benchmark tests on this PC and it outperforms mobile Intel i3 and even certain i5 processors with a better graphics card.
tested it out, and found out that almost every major game can be played on this PC. This can play anything from Civ V to Mass Effect 2 & KOTOR. For integrated graphics, it is above average.
Overall, this is a great laptop with many features. Good for making/editing videos, multi-tasking, listening to music, editing photos, watching HD video, and playing mainstream games.
*UPDATE*
I just upgraded it to 8GB of RAM. Does it need it? No. I did it because I could and it made things much better. I quickly became used to the touchpad and it runs fine. The only negative I see is that the plastic housing is a little loose on the front right corner. I'll keep an eye on it but other than that it's great.

I have owned this laptop for several weeks now. I purchased a wireless mouse to use with it and it works great! (I never liked using the built-in pad) This laptop replaces an older Toshiba that was a great laptop. This one is faster, lighter, and thinner. The sound is very good for a laptop. My only complaint is that the screen has no contrast adjustment and when I got it the picture quality was poor.(surprising to me since this is billed as an "entertainment" laptop) And yes, I checked the resolution, etc. Everything looked kind of washed out, and not at all clear. I was ready to return it. But now, after going through the whole color adjustment process (see owners manual) the picture is a lot better but still not great (my old toshiba had a better picture from day 1). While I didn't purchase this item from Amazon, I would like to say that as someone who relies on Amazon quite a bit for reviews I wanted to share my experience.Unboxing:
The unboxing process was pretty straight forward, very minimalist packaging. The machine is fairly well protected in styrofoam blocks on either end of the laptop. The AC adapter and cord was stored in 2 little cardboard boxes and the user guide was also included (about the size of a CD jewel case). Just a note, there were no drivers or OS discs included, these are on the Lenovo recovery partition.
First Startup:
Usual Windows 7 experience. My one gripe was that it was bloatware galore. Many of these programs are kind of interesting (face recognition for login), various other "feel good" kind of apps that I can just imagine are sucking all of the performance out of this machine. The initial impressions are that the keyboard feels outstanding, not very much flex, good responsiveness and comfortable to type on. The control button on the bottom left is actually to the right of the function button which has taken a lot of getting used to. There are a lot of soft-keys that serve various purposes (quick launch of favorite programs, etc.), but I don't use those too much. This thing has LED's galore for anything and everything you can possibly think of, reminds me of those movies with machines with a ton of blinky lights that don't really do anything.
The touchpad is exceptional for a PC laptop. Macs have the market cornered with their glass touchpads that are a dream to navigate on, but this has to be a good alternative. The touchpad is textured so the tactile feedback is nice when you're moving the cursor around. There are 2 touchpad buttons, and they are a little bit on the smooshy side but not too bad.
The screen is 1366x768 (yes I know everyone is going to complain that it's not 1080p, but to me this wasn't a big deal). For laptop gaming, lower resolutions will probably get you better framerates anyway (if that's your purpose for buying this machine). I found the screen to be very clear, decent horizontal viewing angles but the vertical viewing angles weren't that great.
The power cord hooks in to the right side of the machine, but it's far enough back that it shouldn't be too big a deal. Plus, they were smart enough to make the power plug a right angle so that when you plug it in the cord goes backwards parallel with the case. The last notebook I tried had a cord on the right, but the plug wasn't a right angle so the cord went straight into the space where your mouse will probably be if you're a righty.
The DVD drive sounds like a jet engine, but most of them do anyway. The machine is very quiet, when gaming some fan noise can be heard but it isn't too bad. If you're looking for a quiet gaming machine, take a look at the G53/G73 Asus (Asi?). Those also have the added advantage of making you invisible to enemy radar.
Ports: On the right you have a USB and USB/eSata combo port along with an ExpressCard slot, power port and Kensington slot. On the left you have VGA, HDMI, LAN, 2 USB ports and Mic/Headphone ports.
Gaming: I'm not going to throw framerates / settings at you because those will be very subjective based on your specific configuration and whether or not you know what you're doing. I will just say I've played Rift, Mafia 2, BFBC2, L4D2, Supreme Commander 2 and TF2 on this machine so far and they played very well at respectable settings. I wouldn't categorize this machine as a desktop replacement, I still use my desktop for primary gaming, but the Lenovo will take very good care of you when you're away from home or if you are on a budget.
Upgrading RAM / Hard Drive So incredibly easy that it's not even worth talking about. Make sure you have a good set of computer / precision screwdrivers and you're set. This isn't surgery like removing an appendix or anything-1 panel and you're pretty much done.
If you have a Windows 7 HP disk or if you know how to download a clean one from Microsoft, I highly recommend doing a fresh install. If you don't overwrite the Lenovo partition you can use it as the source for all of the drivers you need, and if you need to put it back to "factory" settings you can easily do that as well.
So, to summarize:

Make sure you have latest drivers. Dithering effect on screen was driving me bonkers, but the right driver goes a long way. Also, I've noticed that dithering effect comes back if you put the machine in standby and then wake it up (sometimes). If you experience dithering, do a full reboot and make sure you have latest drivers.
I just received this laptop today. This PC runs very fast, which matches its high tech specs, i7+4g ddr3+ati 6570. Therefore, it basically can handle everything I need to run on it.
I tested two games on it, WOW and SC2. Both of them run very smoothly on this machine at high settings. Temperature does go up a bit when gaming, but its quite tolerable.
Speakers quality is good.
Not heavy as a 15.6 laptop.
Price is competitive for a i7+dedicated video cards.
Cons:
Poor build quality, totally like a plastic toy. It's like you can break it quite easily.
Comes with only one partition that is C: and I can't resize it in Windows. Though I handled it with a small partition software I don't like the producer's attitude that put all disk space into one partition.
Power cable is on the right side, if you're using mouse on a small table, it would annoy you.

Some bloatware.
Overall, it's a good laptop with good specs. I hope the poor build quality can last long enough because I carry laptop to school almost everyday.I've had my ideapad y560p for about 14 months now. The machine is great. People talk about the bloatware in some of the reviews but these must be people who've only dealt with home built or business grade machines. Trust me, the amount of extra software on this thing is minimal and doesn't slow the machine down at all. (Curses to you HP & Dell in this regard!) The extra software bits that are on the machine are useful like a program to create split screens for programs, one to create full backups of your system and software, etc. And instead of hundreds of bloatware programs the machine only comes twenty or so. Their removal is easy enough if you chose. It won't take you hours like a commercial HP or Dell machine will.
First thing though you'll probably want to remove is the installed anti-spyware. It comes with McAfee, a notoriously bad software bundle. Microsoft's firewall and spyware protection is free and doesn't cause you any issues. You'll probably want to remove the facial recognition/log-in program too. After playing with it for a few weeks you'll notice that even though it's cute, it will not recognize you easily in low light conditions and it delays the boot-up.
The keyboard is solid, which is why I went with the machine. The Thinkpad line is sturdier built but are costlier. It was the keyboard that brought me to this machine. Most consumer grade PCs outside of the Apple realm have horrid keyboards. You will notice that this machine's keyboard has switched the spots for the 'ctrl' and 'alt' keys. If you're used to an Apple keyboard, or so I'm told, this won't be a bother. It is something I've learned to overcome in time.
The machine produces excellent video quality and runs like a dream. The speakers are fantastic, producing better sound than the small HD TV I have in my son's room.
The track pad is decent & responsive. A little too responsive. When I type I will rest my hand on the track pad and accidently move the mouse & my cursor when I least want to. It also uses a scrolling method where your two fingers are to be slightly spread and not together. This is annoying and the only thing I've not learned to do consistently. In the end I use a wireless mouse for most of my activities and have the track pad turned off.
In the end it is a solid machine. I would have given it a perfect 5 stars, except for the track pad weirdness. Yes, the track pad is great but its quirks are more of a headache for someone who uses their laptop 90% of the time for typing.I believe it deserves 4 stars (for non-gaming), but 2 stars if you need the external monitor connected.
I don't write reviews as often as I should, but the problems that this machine has prompted me to write a review.
I don't use this laptop for gaming (no time).
I use it for programming, scripture research, listening to music and browsing the Internet, and other things.
PROS:
Works when used for non-gaming tasks.
Plays music well WITHOUT monitor attachment.
CONS:
* Plays music / sound close to horrible when external monitor is attached.
The monitor as well as the music consume the first CPU core, and so when it gets busy, the music gets ruined.
So forget about playing movies or music on this machine while it's VGA-output is connected.
* Rendering w/ Maya 5.0 fails. It worked on my older PC. Perhaps a more latest Maya would render correctly. But I just can't render with this machine. So no Maya work on this machine! This is indicative of possible other rendering issues, which are unknown.
* Minor: if you have an audio plug inserted, while listening to music, and then you unplug, the audio won't transfer to the internal speakers. However, a work around is to put the PC to sleep and then wake up, and then audio will play into the internal speakers.
So the biggest problem for me really is not being able to use the VGA output, as I like to use the big monitor to do work more efficiently while listening to music. Also, I can't watch movies with a projector or big screen TV.
*I don't know about HDMI-out however! Maybe it won't ruin the sound stream. *

Sony VAIO VPCEG34FX/B 14-Inch Laptop (Black)
I was skeptical at first, so I bought a Samsung i7 laptop instead. The Samsung, like most of the other laptops looked plain and outdated. The deal killer was the fact that its i7 was mystifyingly slow, so i took it back and gave the Sony a try! I was immediately impressed by the Vaio i5's speed, it is clocked at 2.5GHZ with speed boost up to 3.1GHZ so it just zipped to my tasks. The screen is bright and clear as you would expect from Sony. The battery is very good and i can go all day at school without a recharge. The diamond texture repels fingerprints, so it always looks clean. it has the Vaio Gate that livens up the windows 7 desktop. I also own a Sony Playstation 3 and this laptop features remote play so i can play PS3 games or access my PS3 from anywhere. The WIFI is fine if you update the drivers from Intel. My only complaint is the video camera isn't the best. I have looked hard after buying this computer and I cant find anything at this price that can meet all of my needs with the speed and style of this Vaio.
Unfortunately, the Vaio has one major drawback. The wifi is very erratic. It would find our network and then for no reason drop the network. Many times I would have to go into the network settings and cancel and resubmit the connection. Sometimes this would work, sometimes, I would wait 3-4 minutes for it to reconnect. I downloaded and installed over 28 updates from Microsoft for Windows 7, none made any substantial difference. My husband upgraded our router at the house, no difference. I contacted Sony who told me to contact Intel and I went round and round. Nothing made any difference in the performance of this computer's wireless abilities. We have many other devices at our home on the wireless, including 2 Macs, a Dell laptop, Kindle, iPods, and iPad. The only one that has ever had any issue with the wireless was the Sony Vaio. In searching the net, I found many references to this problem, many dating back up to two years ago. Until, Sony can solve this issue, I would suggest avoiding this particular model.

I purchased the Sony Vaio in late January, so I've had it for about 3 months, and I absolutely love it! I initially had an issue with the wireless connection and had to call Sony customer support, but after a couple hours on the phone with the technicians, they finally figured out that it was a startup application causing a conflict with my wireless. Needless to say, they resolved the issue the day after I received the computer, and since then the wireless has worked flawlessly.I just finished an online Master's program, and this computer was a dramatic upgrade from my last computer and made taking classes online much easier! It is an excellent computer for watching movies, doing school work, using the Internet, etc. It's super fast and I haven't had any issues.
The look of the computer is also very classy. It's super portable and the battery life is amazing (lasting several hours before needing to be plugged in). The screen is a beautiful display. I would highly recommend this product to a friend.

I've had this computer for over a year now, and it still runs as if it is brand new. I have not had any issues with it. I would highly recommend this product!

I've had this computer for a year and a half and was happy with it up until recently. I am a graduate student and when I first got this computer it had exactly what I needed and did everything wonderfully and in some ways still does. I was completely impressed by this computer. It was fast at completing all tasks when I got it and a year later after much usage and lots of space taken up it is still just as fast. It's a beautiful, sleek looking computer and it comes with a lot of great features. It has small lights that act as buttons at the top of the keyboard you lightly put your finger on and they do tasks such as launching itunes, muting audio, and playing/stopping/fastforwarding movies so you don't have to navigate to other windows or the desktop to complete tasks. It also has labelflash which is useful if you want custom labeled dvd's. I have burned hundreds of dvds and cds with this computer and have never had any problems and the burner is still going strong. I've never had any issues connecting to wireless internet and have even used this computer to connect to other computers wirelessly to transfer documents. I can have multiple windows and tabs open and it doesn't effect the speed of the computer. I can run games easily and it plays programs flawlessly. It has three usb outlets and I am able to run a usb mouse, a printer, and a usb disk at the same time if I need to. This computer in many ways is great.It does have its not so great points though and the main one is that its parts broke down fast. Around three months after I got this computer I started having issues with the screen flickering. At first it only did it on rare occasions so I didn't think much about it, but after while, after it was too late for returns, it flickered worse and worse. Four months ago I couldn't move the laptop from my desk for fear of flickering. The screen eventually went out and I had to replace it. It's been three months since then and the screen worked fine after I replaced it until a few weeks ago when the flickering returned. I'm afraid I am going to have to replace another part in the laptop, either the display cable or another part. If you do your research toshiba laptops are notorious for having screens go out along with other parts even when they are fairly new. This is a huge drawback and if I had done better research beforehand I wouldn't have bought this laptop.
A second minor issue is one small turnwheel. The laptop has a small turnwheel on the front you can use to turn volume up and down. This stopped working pretty soon after I got the laptop but this hasn't really impacted me much because I rarely used it anyway.
Another issue I am having is that I have had to replace the power cord. I do not move my laptop around much. It usually sits stationary on my desk so I find it odd the power cord has a short in it when I barley move the laptop off of one spot. So far I have put a lot of money into fixing problems I shouldn't have had to deal with at early times in a laptops life. Instead of fixing the screen again I am just going to hook it up to an external monitor and let it sit stationary on my desk and use it as an at home computer because my screen issues have made it too unreliable to trust in the future. It's not a good computer to travel to school and home with and doesn't seem to react well to you opening and closing it and I think that is what is causing my current screen issues. Instead of putting more money into fixing my toshiba satellite I am just going to buy a new laptop. I have loved this laptop because it has been great with the exception of the repair issues I've had. I've accomplished a lot of work using this machine and it has produced well for me. I am sad to have to give up on this one after trying so hard to get it to work correctly but putting more money into it isn't a possiblity now because I need a laptop for school that isn't going to break down again and I can't be sure this one won't.
Cons (1) gets very hot (2) delicate laptop don't drop it.
Good buy for student or kids or even grannxy. Not good for hardcore gamers
Acer Aspire V5-571P-6831 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Silky Silver)
I bought this product at my local electronics store. I have no major problems with this laptop, but the wireless adapter seems to fail constantly. I have connected to my wireless router 37 times in the past 3 hours. I have search Acer forums for answer, but most other customers are experiencing the same problem as me. Seems Acer has not found a solution to the wireless issues that me and other customers have already experienced. I will be returning this laptop due to constant dropped internet connections via wireless access. Other than that, I think anyone else can enjoy it,but if you don't mind hard wiring it to your router for internet access...then you'll do just fine.
The reason I took the gamble was thanks to another review that stated how to fix the wifi issue, but luckily when I received my Acer Aspire it worked fantastically out of the box.
The first time you power it on it takes awhile to setup the files, but that's to be expected.
Once the initial setup is finished everything is good to go. Wifi works fantastic. I had absolutely no issues with it.
The touchscreen is awesome and I truly had no idea how much I would enjoy it.
The backlit keyboard is fantastic.
This is not a gaming computer! Don't go in thinking all your supposed game should work. Just a disclaimer.
The only two issues I've had are:
1. The battery isn't as nice as I would like. I probably get 3 hours of heavy use. I still haven't looked into an extended battery.
2. About once a week you should completely restart the laptop to free up all your volatile memory.
Overall, I completely love this laptop. I'm on it right now typing this review. It actually works so great that, even though it's 3 months old, I still haven't transferred even half of my files over because it's just so great out of the box.

The product largely does what it's expected to do: CPU is fast, integrated graphic chip is good for non-gaming applications, and touch-enabled screen goes well with Windows 8 Metro interface. Out of the box, wifi indeed is not stable (obvious compared with other devices connected to the same network: changing to "limited" connection and then coming back after some time). Installing the latest driver from Acer's support website has solved the wifi problem, but the bluetooth no longer works. Since I use wifi all the time while seldom connecting to a bluetooth device, it seems to be worthwhile trade-off for now.
