HP G62-234DX Laptop Notebook / Intel Core i3-350M Processor / 15.6" LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memor

HP G62-234DX Laptop Notebook / Intel Core i3-350M Processor / 15.6' LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 250GB HD / Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW /Built-in HP Webcam & Microphone /Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit / BiscottiI purchased this notebook so I could have something to sit around in the living room, coffee shop and/or occasional work trip. I am generally a MAC person, but this computer has worked pretty well for me, since I sometimes want to use a PC and my work uses PC's.

If you don't want an iPad, do want a "real" keyboard, but also think that netbooks are too small (especially the keyboard) and limited (smaller hard drive), then this is a good size. It's thin enough to slip in a back pack or carry on, and still enjoy a vivid screen, yet not so big as a 17 inch screen, that it should be considered a desktop.

Since I am a writer (at home and work), I like the "regular" sized keyboard, although the touch "mouse" pad is too close to the space bar that sometimes my thumb hits it and moves the cursor.

The computer boots up pretty quick, and if it sleeps or the battery looses power, it seems to restore it self pretty quickly, which I like very much.

Since I am a MAC person, there are several things I don't like about running MS products, including: OUTLOOK DID NOT COME WITH THE VERSION OF MS "OFFICE" THAT I BOUGHT (but then I just downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and am just fine not paying more to MS thank you very much). It is especially annoying that Outlook does not come with the computer, since such a solid email/calendar program come standard with a MAC. Also, there are way more software notifications and "reminders" that constantly pop up that are annoying.

I do like the way Windows now organizes "Libraries" of "Documents," "Pictures," etc., very much like a MAC (no doubt, that's where MS got the idea).

My notebook had an HDMI output, which is great when you want to hook it up to a TV at home or at a hotel on a business trip, if your hotel has a HD tv with HDMI. This latter feature is great, since that means you can watch Netflix in your hotel room on the road.

The wifi works great. It was pretty easy to get it up and running for web surfing at home and in coffee shops.

There's more I like, but the size and functionality have been great: Not to big, not to small, great screen, plenty of HD space for general purposes, plenty of speed for skype etc., just very pleased.

HP generally puts out some very nice products. This G62 is very fast, and I love Win7 over Vista.

BUT... and a BIG BUT...

There are new keys added to the left side of the keyboard... application keys... say you use CTRL a lot... your little finger automatically reaches for the furthests most bottom left key.. you hit it without out looking (like most good typists)...

BOOM, the Calculator pops up!!! Who the heck put THAT button there?

Same w/ CAPS LOCK... and TAB... and Shift etc. The only standard location key they left alone is the ESC key. Personally, I use CTRL and CAPS and TAB a whole heck of a lot more than the ESC key.

Nice response to the keyboard, nice monitor, fast processor, lovely Win7

BUT DANG, who was the non-genius who put those new keys on the far left hand side??

My suggestion: Find a different HP (or other) laptop, where the keyboard is standard.

Toshiba Satellite L855-S5244 15.6-Inch Laptop (Mercury Silver)

Toshiba Satellite L855-S5244 15.6-Inch LaptopWhen I first bought the Toshiba Satellite in the summer of 2012, it was the most powerful computer at Best Buy. This computer was marketed at $850, but was only $750 at that time. Even at the discounted price, this is a wonderful computer. The Toshiba anti-theft and virus software has gotten me out of many problems that killed off my previous computers. It is very fast, and very reliable. The computer screen is beautiful, the number pad is a great addition, and the hardrive protection is wonderful. However, it isn't flawless. On more than one occasion, this computer has overheated due to it's metal body. The computer will automatically shut off protecting it, which is good, but the fact that it does it at all, isn't good. I've had this issue with my Xbox where it'd do that and turn off randomly during a game. It's worse with this because I use my computer for important things, like generating essays. Another problem is that the trackpad is very glitchy. I'd definitely reccomend a USB plugin mouse for this. I've only gotten the bluescreen once, and that was due to a software issue from one of the programs I've installed on here not being configured properly. So if you want a cheap and fast computer, I'd reccomend this over the MacBook Pro any day.

After careful research, on October 24, 2012, I bought online from Toshiba Direct a Toshiba Satellite L850 customized laptop for roughly $844 with taxes. I received it 2 weeks later but was out of town on work, so when the package was officially opened, it was after the 15 day "full refund" time period. What irony?! Well, I opened it, it worked fine the first time and the next morning, when turning on again, I got the "blue screen" treatment that so many other unhappy Toshiba buyers have experienced. I called Toshiba and got the scripted customer service replies for the next few days with no resolve. To be clear, I said I want to return it each time because I knew from former reviews that this was not going to just go away. No one helped at Toshiba's customer or tech service phone support and when I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was told they would have to call me back within 2 business days. Seriously? Well, that also didn't happen. So, I've now had the Toshiba laptop opened and out of the box for officially 3 weeks at this point, can't return it for a full refund, can't get sales or tech support to solve the problem, and can't get upper level supervisors to speak to me. Any wonder how I feel about spending $844 on this piece of garbage? It get's better too. Toshiba now wants to charge me shipping costs to send the laptop to their repair facility and perhaps within 2 more weeks, they'll tell me all of this is NOT under warranty and for a mere $200 more, they can fix it. Well, I decided I wasn't going to give them the option to fail me yet again. I took the laptop to a STORE (Best Buy) and spoke face to face with a PERSON (in their Geek Squad) and they ran a diagnostic in 1 day and yes, $200 later, fixed the blue screen problem and removed the spyware and adware that was also on the system too. One more thing; this is the first review I've ever written. Spending the five minutes of time to write this review will be worthwhile only if other online buyers don't also get fooled into wasting their time or money buying a Toshiba.

I bought this as a desktop-replacement for my wife for $460 Nov 2012. Not sure why the price is higher now. You can find a higher performing toshiba than this for $680.

PROS:

Quality and durable hardware.

Textured D-Pad

Moderate windows 7 performance

CONS:

Be prepared to uninstall 10+ preinstalled toshiba bloatware.

Hassled constantly to purchase an antivirus program when Microsoft Security Essentials provides it for free.

HP ProBook 4540s 15.6" Business Notebook PC - C6Z37UT

HP ProBook 4540s 15.6' Business Notebook PC - C6Z37UTI bought this laptop to use as my Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). I wasn't looking to spend too much, but I wanted a minimum spec, which this laptop filled. Most important was a dual core processer. The i5 in this machine is plenty powerful enough for my use. I also wanted a 7200rpm hard drive this one has it. I did upgrade the RAM to the full 16GB (an extra $88 in Crucial memory) the machine comes with 4GB and is upgradable to 16GB. That upgrade took all of 1 minute. All in, I spent under $700 for a laptop that could have easily cost $900 or more.

I love the look of this thing. It's big, with a large screen. Might not be a great traveling laptop, but for my needs it is exactly what I want.

Everything arrived in new condition. Fired it up out of the box and installed the updates. NO bloat ware to deal with at all, really. Just some HP tools that you don't need enable. This laptop is clean and PERFECT for my use. No processing issues when recording music I get about 4 or 5ms latency using ASIO drivers I can get similar latency with the WAVE RT driver as well. The Windows rating on this system is 5.9 out of 7.9 which is pretty respectable.

I'm running Mixcraft Pro Studio 6.0, Superior Drummer 2.0 & Melodyne Editor 2 without any hiccups.

I'm extremely pleased with my decision to go with this laptop. Yes, it comes with the Windows 8 upgrade but I'm not touching it! Windows 7 Pro is very stable and what I'm sticking with in this particular instance.

I would recommend this laptop of you're on a budget and looking for performance without a bunch of frills. There's no office productivity software pre-installed so if you're buying this for business purposes make sure you have all of the software you want to run. I'm sure that's one of the reasons the price is so reasonable.

For the home audio enthusiast, this is a great entry point platform for your audio recording and editing needs.

It's a computer laptop. It works as expected. I got this one because I didn't want windows 8, but wanted a decent amount of memory. This gave me the option of sticking with 7 and also gave me a disk I could use to upgrade to windows 8 if I ever feel adventuresome. I like the key board. The keys are raised. There are some features I haven't tried yet. It is light weight. That is a plus. Much faster than my other laptops. The CD/DVD slot is not well designed, is flimsy and is hard to open. Update: It has a strange deal with the mouse. There is a small pin light (not a button) in the left portion of the mouse closest to the monitor. If you touch it by accident the light will come on and your mouse will freeze. The only thing that will make the mouse unfreeze is to tap that light several times. Apparently my other HP laptop is like this as well and I never have been unfortunate enough to accidently press it. Other than several hours of panic, it didn't harm anything. But scared me to have my computer essentially frozen and unable to access my documents.

I like the raised keys on the keyboard. I like how quiet this laptop is. The sound and video are very good. Compared to other laptops I've had it's amazingly quiet.. It's nice and light. My last laptop, an Acer, would get burning hot. Not this one. Thanks to some new technology developed by HP it stays cool, which is a very nice feature. It's fast enough. I tried a Toshiba laptop before I got this one but sent it back because the sound and picture were both terrible, and because I HATED the Windows 8 operating system. I feel very lucky to have found this excellent computer with Windows 7, which I much prefer. I would recommend this laptop.

I have just received my HP ProBook 4540s few hours ago and I have spent some time playing around with it. So, this is only my first impression. I love everything about this laptop so far! I have just returned my $950 sony laptop and got this $600 HP laptop, and I am so happy to do so. This is a really good laptop for students.

I will write more about this laptop in few months, the time for me to go deeper in its features and usage.

By the way, thank you very much to all people who write reviews about products on amazon.com and online sites. 5 stars for the seller TigerDirect, 5 stars for Amazon.com (I sell and buy on Amazon, and I love the way they handle this business), and more than 5 stars for this wonderful laptop. This is not my first laptop. In fact, in the last 4 years, I have own laptops from Dell, Asus, Apple MacBook (which I returned), Samsung, Sony (which I have just returned today). I have also owned an all in one pc from Asus and another from Sony. However, this is my first time to write a review about a pc, this is my first time to like my pc to the point to sit down and share my first impression...

Acer C710-2487 11.6-Inch Chromebook (Iron Gray)

Acer C710-2487 11.6-Inch ChromebookThis is my first chromebook, so I am still getting used to it. But it is lighting fast (compared to the dell I had before). Probably the most memory I use is watching Netflix, but I don't have a problem streaming. It starts up in seconds and the battery seems to last for days on standby, which is nice. Its super light and easy to carry around at work. You can pull it out like a phone and google for quick answers or bring up documents without the hassle of waiting for startup or a tiny screen. I haven't had any connectivity issues with it.

The thing I am disappointed with is the slides, docs and spreadsheets programs.. they are not as compatible with office as I thought they would be, but they will open and edit office docs. However, even with simple documents the formatting is changed dramatically. Its still usable, just requires more effort to re-edit. Being able to store everything on the google drive and open from any computer is awesome.

The only thing that's not good is the bottom doesn't come screwed on and there are actually "warranty void" stickers over the screw holes, so the back does fall off every now and them, which I feel is asking for trouble.

For the price, the value is great. I've never had a computer this mobile or fast. I'm hoping the apps will improve as time goes on.

Fast startup.

No crapware.

No frequent updates.

No more Norton price increases.

Lite weight.

When I was shopping for a new laptop i did a lot of looking and research...but then someone asked "how are you going to be using it?" That is when I realized that I didn't need all the programs that came with most laptops...MS Office kind of stuff....and even though

I didn't know exactly what I wanted, I did know that I didn't want something that took forever to turn on, had to update all the time, and would get sluggish eventually with or without the updates. So I tried out Google Drive and Picasa and some other Google apps and they are great. This was my solution and I couldn't be happier. So great.

The product arrived as expected and packaged great. I have a MacBook Pro, and wanted to see If the Chrome OS was a functional product for me. The system is actually great and so streamlined to my needs, this is the next best OS system after the Mac OS. I would definitely recommend this OS system to any one who wants a system with a quick start up, ability to run multiple apps with no decline in performance, and a nice size hard drive at a very affordable price.

Want Acer C710-2487 11.6-Inch Chromebook (Iron Gray) Discount?

The office I work for bought some of these (we are a small firm-and can't afford macs) so that we wouldn't have to lug our personal laptops to and fro from work.

It's cool. I wouldn't have gotten one for myself. There are limits to what you can do with a chromebook. Of course it isn't a full OS laptop so its limits are within expectations, yet some are very bothersome. I'm just going to list the Pros and Cons for my Acer Chromebook.

Pros: Fast start up, decent battery life, integrated google doc, drive and app support. Decent entry level specs for the price. Low price. Light and mobile unit. Has offline mode (in the case of no internet), 4 usb ports

Cons: offline mode isn't the best, limited productivity apps and behind software titans Microsoft Office and Apple's Keynote, very little storage.

The biggest con for me is the printing. I need to print all the time. Google cloud print is difficult to use, and doesn't support commercial office printers, which is what we have. So either you have to buy a special google cloudprint ready printer, or use their Print share..which is finicky, has a very simplistic driver and often messes up my print margins.

Since I got it for free, I'll use it, because it is definitely lighter than my macbook pro. However I wish chrome would/could somehow add driver support, because the printing is a dealbreaker for my personal use.

I wouldn't recommend this as a primary computer alternative to anyone, it's more like a tablet streamlined for production, with an included keyboard and usb ports. It can be useful if you already have a laptop, and want a lighter one for on-the-go needs.

Avatar Android Laptop 13.3" display White AVRA-138A1

Avatar Android Laptop 13.3' display White AVRA-138A1This notebook gets a bad rep from folks who don't understand what they're buying and/or aren't familiar with the Android OS.

I came into the purchase (from another site, not Amazon unfortunately) with full knowledge that Android was a whole new world for me to get accustomed to. I was previously a Mac user, but had plenty of Windows experience (unavoidable if you grew up in the '90s/aughties) and used a Mac PowerPC G5 at home. That Mac G5 was disconnected from internet duties from about 2007-2012, and when reconnected, needed a new OS...so I installed Linux MintPPC, and had a generally positive experience once I got over the learning curve of installing Linux on a PowerPC. So since Android is an offshoot of Linux, I figured I'd give this notebook a spin.

I'm a freelance writer outside my full-time day job, so I wanted this primarily to write on Wordpress. Once I figured out I should definitely download the Wordpress App from the Google Play Store, it worked like a charm. Trying to do Wordpress entries via the available browsers (either the generic Android "Browser" app or via Google's Chrome app...haven't tried any others yet) was tedious and frustrating.

Browsing in-general can be tedious and frustrating sometimes. If you're moving within a given webpage, you're probably going to get decent speed, but moving from one web URL to the next can be slow and generates a lot of "Chrome is not responding. Would you like to close it?" messages. I usually select "Wait," and almost as soon as I click it, the logjam breaks loose for whatever reason. Someone suggested I try Opera for Android, which I think I'll try soon.

Otherwise, this machine came loaded with Kingsoft Office, which is handy for general writing and note-taking duties and can also handle spreadsheets-but I mostly use Google Drive since Google documents don't use any space from my Drive account allotment, and I can access them on any internet-connected machine including my old Mac desktop. Cloud computing has its advantages, it turns out.

I plan to try using this laptop to stream YouTube videos and possibly Netflix (if I can get the proper app for it) to our living room TV. When viewing video on the YouTube app, even 1080 HD streams smoothly in full-screen mode. This is the kind of work Allwinner SOCs-the guts of these machines-were made for.

So overall I give it four out of five stars. I wasn't expecting a great gaming machine (it isn't...mostly because it doesn't have touchscreen or gyro capabilities) or a perfect web-browsing machine (it isn't, for reasons outlined above), but as a productivity enhancer that I can use while on the go, it fits the bill as well as any full-fledged laptop costing four or five times as much, and its small form factor-just slightly larger than an early MacBook Air-makes it supremely portable.

One last thing: The company-Avatar-is incredible to work with. My power supply crapped out on me after a couple months of ownership, and they expeditiously arranged for an RMA and sent me a new one. They also gave me instructions (and a link!) on how to wipe the Android OS and start from scratch when I inquired about possibly installing a more conventional Linux distro on the machine. All I had to do was ask. That was pretty cool of them. I'm currently looking at buying a compact desktop PC from them that comes loaded with Ubuntu 12.10 because I like the service they've given me so far, and the value in my estimation is unbeatable.

I bought this product for my dad for Christmas. I was trying to show him how to use the internet but it closes the browser every time you try to use it. It seems like it's on a timer to close the browser and I don't know how to change it. The manual sent with the book does not discuss this, it may be an easy fix but I don't know how to change it. There are no other reviews or information online, therefore, currenlty it's unless.

After finding the Google app store(would have been nice to see this app on the desktop on first boot along with a welcome tutorial for the launcher they use) I was surprised to see many apps unavailable to this device in the google play store. no chrome?? I highly recommend sideloading chrome because the default browser isn't compatible with some websites. The os seems to overload and throw up insert app name is not responding, wait, report or close boxes perhaps ICS is to much or soon there will be a software update?

ASUS G75 17.3" i7 12GB/500GB/GTX 660M Win7 NB

ASUS G75 17.3' i7 12GB/500GB/GTX 660M Win7 NBthe computer is more then i wished for

its a bit expansive as im not used to spending 1400dolars on a laptop but this one was worth it

i also aditionaly put an ssd hd inside and now its one fast road runner.

the only down side is when im on batery mode i cant play games ,they lag hard

Okay, This was a great purchase for the price. I researched all possible competing laptops and none came close. After using this product for a month, I have concluded the following:

Pros:

1. Speed of computer is superb

2. Starcraft 2 on ULTRA settings run flawlessly

3. Can run multiple games (Counterstrike, diablo 3, and starcraft with no lag simultaneously)

Cons:

1. Hard drive could be faster 5400rpm. If you have a a little extra money then just replace the hard drive with a SSD.

2. Screen sometimes looks a little grey. But thats during daylight. At night its awesome.

So concluding, I would definitely recommend this to any wanting a high end gaming laptop for a reasonable price.

Also, at they have an older model backpack solid black, that is a ROG official backpack for 17.3 inch laptops for 49.99. Pick that up right away as its a great sale.

Buy ASUS G75 17.3" i7 12GB/500GB/GTX 660M Win7 NB Now

I had pretty high hopes for this laptop considering the incredible reviews from multiple online retailers. The laptop is indeed very sturdy, and based on the specs seems like a really great buy. But there's a reason this laptop seems like a great deal:

1. It comes with a ridiculously large amount of bloatware. Upon initial boot you'll find dozens of useless programs.

2. It doesn't come with Office.

3. The screen resolution is poor for the price. Definitely a visible step down from G75VW-TS72 screen.

4. The touchpad has a raised bump on it. This could just be a defect with the one I received. It's just noticeable enough to be annoying.

Overall I would recommend spending a little more to get a better model.

Dell Latitude D610 Laptop CD-RW/ DVD Wireless Computer (Refurbished)

Dell Latitude D610 Laptop CD-RW/ DVD Wireless ComputerI bought one of these laptops two months ago. It has been working just fine. Today Microsoft told me that the license is not valid. It has a valid certificate of authenticity on the back but does not have a second "refurbished" CoA. When I look at the internal System Properties/General tab it says "XP Corporate" which means it was covered under a volume/site license which can not be transferred or sold. I will probably have to buy a fresh copy of XP ($150) and re-install.

Before I made the order I checked to see that the advertisement specified "Genuine Windows XP". I also checked the CoA when it arrived. When the Microsoft updater offered to run "Genuine Advantage" to check the authenticity I confidently thought "sure, go right ahead." Now every time I restart I get a big message that says I am a victim of software piracy. If left uncorrected, I expect the operating system would eventually simply stop running.

Some vendors specify "Genuine Windows XP". If it arrives with XP it may be legitimate, or NOT. Microsoft has a very active updating and authenticating program. You probably don't want a system that is not kept up to date and free of security vulnerabilities. The updater will check the system validity.

Got my laptop today, was shipped quickly. Before I even received it I emailed the seller with some questions and was met with quick responses and the seller was very helpful. VERY happy with this laptop and with the customer service I received. I will definitely order again in the future and will recommended them to family/friends!

~~This is an update to my previous review. I forgot to mention also the price. So affordable for people who could never afford to buy brand new. I am so very happy with this laptop so far. It is everything it was said to be. Some people gave reviews about these particular laptops and nitpicked a lot of stuff. Stuff the average person may not even notice (even the high pitch sound with headphones that people complained of, even back when these were brand new, I have not noticed). I find this laptop to be PERFECT for my needs. I'm not a "gamer" and graphics stuff isn't one of my needs.

To sum it up: I got everything I expected and a little more since the things I worried about were not an issue. For a family who is low income or at least on a very tight budget, and just wants a laptop to surf or read, etc. this is it. Also, the seller was wonderful to work with. I gave five stars and those still stick!!!!

I was skeptical about purchasing a refurbished D610. It has worked like a charm the speed and capacity are suitable for my needs. It's a great home computer, I don't have to do any heavy computing with it but it seems quite capable to take on any job.

The only thing that could be better is the brightness of the screen. I need to do some research to see if I can make adjustment in the screen brightness.

I purchased the updated anti-virus and malware software and updated my router, it accepted all I could throw at it and works just fine.

For $233.00 this has been a great bargain!!!

As stated, this was a fantastic deal. I was a little skeptical of buying a refurbished laptop, had tried to buy 2 others elsewhere, both had pixels burned out in them. I was amazed at the quality of this one, not a scratch on it. It took a week in shipping from the west coast to the east coast, but the battery was still at 72% when it arrived and I opened it. It looks great, performs great, and Id buy this one again. The seller was very easy to work with, no problem with communication whatsoever. Im 100% satisfied with this purchase, no problems or hassles at all.

I purchased this laptop as a Christmas gift for my daughter. It was specified as being in B condition. This made me a little nervous as to what I would receive. It came with a small wear spot in the paint on the key board. Other than that it looks like new and seams to be functioning just fine. Its a much sturdier machine than some of the lower end / like priced units I looked at in the department stores. My daughter loves it and I'm very satisfied with the value.

Asus A53E-IS51 15.6" Notebook Computer, Intel Core i5-2450m 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win 7 Home

Asus A53E-IS51 15.6' Notebook Computer, Intel Core i5-2450m 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bitI own a similar computer which has served me well, hence, the ordering of this unit. Asus has a superior warranty ( one year covering drops, spills, power surges and fire damage ) included with all notebooks, no extra charge.

The A53 series has an aluminum inner case which is always cool to the touch, unlike other lap-tops which I have used. The touch-pad is VERY sensitive and some reviewers recommend disabling it when using a mouse.

I do wish that the key-board was under-lit ; it is difficult to see in low-light situations.

This unit came with a defective space-bar key, which works only when squarely struck dead-center and which defect I have found to be a noted in other on-line reviews of similar units.

My over-all experience was a positive one, so far as dealing with Amazon, and even though it was my first purchase through them, it still seemed a simple enough process.

If not for the factory defect, I would have probably given my experience with this Amazon purchase a full 5 stars.

*** UPDATE REGARDING WARRANTY REPAIR SERVICE ***

I sent the unit to ASUS to have it repaired. Shipped on a Tuesday ; notified it had been received on Fri. the same week, in Ca. (I live in Ga); it was repaired and shipped back to me . . . . received it back in Ga. on Wed. 8 days after I had originally shipped it. I believe that they were primed and ready to repair what I had come to understand was potentially a "generic" type defect and so the exceptional turn-around.

No additional problems. I have up-graded my initial rating of three stars, to a four star rating based on the exceptional warranty repair and shipping turn around of 8 days total . . . . from sending it to them, to receiving it fed-exed back to my driveway.

REPAIRS MADE : KEYBOARD REPLACED

There were many things to like about this product, but the functionality of the keyboard made it unusable.

Things I found that I liked:

Battery life probably average for this class machine

Software load: Not loaded with bloatware

Fit and Finish: Good sturdy aluminum frame

Ran cool and relatively silently compared to an older laptop

Nice clear display

Performance: Acceptable but not significantly better than a four year old laptop based on my light workload requirements(spreadsheets, Word processing, Internet browsing, email) with up to perhaps six sessions running at once.

The thing that made it totally unacceptable:

Keyboard: chiclet style keyboard (found on more laptops these days) without a good tactile feel. Big issue was that my space bar key strikes would be missed about three times for each line of text typed. I found my hands cramped up while trying to position them in such a way that my key strikes would be registered. I worked with it for three weeks, then finally gave up and returned it.

I purchased another Asus machine a few weeks earlier as a gift (Asus 15.6" Laptop 4GB Memory 320 GB Hard Drive-Model X54C-BBK19) for just under $300 and had a totally different experience after having the opportunity to work on it from time to time. It had an Intel I3 processor and only a 300GB drive (vs. an I5 processor and 500GB drive on this unit for a cost of around $450), The keyboard and general operation of the cheaper laptop was superlative. It ran quieter, while just as fast and the keyboard was totally different with no problems what so ever. A big factor in my purchase of both machines was that they both came loaded with Windows 7.

What I learned with this experience was how important the keyboard was to my satisfaction level with a laptop.

I like the computer but the trackpad is too sensitive or something. I am always getting into some kind of zoom screen or scroll all the time. Other than that, for the price, it has everything I need. The camera is a little slow....that could be my connection though. I like the 10-key pad. I had to get used to typing on the left side of keyboard, but that only took a couple of days. So far so good. I have had it for over 3 months now.

Computer keyboard layout is awesome. You have an actual numeric keypad very strategically placed. Runs great on Windows 7. Using it for business, so I did not upgrade to Windows 8 because of so many incompatibility issues with current programs.

Dell Inspiron i15z-2300sLV 15-Inch Ultrabook

Dell Inspiron i15z-2300sLV 15-Inch UltrabookI love this laptop! I bought it for grad school, where I'll be running programs like Adobe Creative Suite and CAD. It definitely has the power, and I love windows 8! The only downside is the laptop itself is about 1/2" wider than necessary on either side of the screen. This makes my ~15.5" long laptop even longer, which makes it a little hard to fit into most laptop sleeves for a 15" and anything other than a laptop backpack. It barely fits into my regular laptop bag. It's pretty light, and you won't find anything with upgradable RAM/Hard Drive capacity AND a disk drive that weighs less than this. I just wish there wasn't 1/2" of unnecessary space on each side of the screen :( It would have looked and felt a lot more compact without it!

so far it seems to be working fine no problems i went tru alot of problems trying to order this same laptop directly from dell but i got it slight heavy for an ultra book and the backklit keyborad is a plus but the on problem is the extra heat you can feel if it isnt place on a flat surface but it is quick to boot up and it doesnt have any problems with the harddrives it was a 500gb but i swap it out with my 1tb so it make everything better all in all a good laptop but some improvements can be made hopefully i wont run in to any issues like other people are will give an update in the future

HP Smartbuy EliteBook 8540w

HP Smartbuy EliteBook 8540wHP laptops have been disappointing to me. I personally would not buy another HP product. But I have this laptop for work.

If you are left-handed, you operate the mouse next to the fire-breathing cooling fan exhaust and your hand will be burnt. This laptop runs hot; the exhaust temperature exceeds 55C. So why does HP place the cooling on the left side not on the back?

After a year of use, the first button on the touchpad stuck and is no longer useable.

This is the worst computer I've ever owned. The specs are impressive, but it was incredibly poorly designed. The placement of the fan makes it so that the computer overheats and shuts itself off regularly. If you're doing any kind of work that requires heavy processor usage, save early and save often, because this hunk of junk WILL crash on you. Not only that, it's heavy. I recommend that you use this PC as a paperweight, but not a computer.

I have bought this machine after giving much consideration to competition and specs. The HP is not the latest in terms of processor since there are machines out there that have i7 second generation processors for about the same price or perhaps less. What attracted me this system is not the latest in terms of processor clock speed but overall build quality and configuration that is paired in the very nice and fast package? Most of the main points for me, since I do use this computer for 3D CAD is the graphics card and chipset. The performance QM57 chipset in the HP vs. for instance Asus`s G73SW-XA1 (HM67 chipset which is just a main street chipset)is significantly better in the performance and security departments. Also as many of us start to use the new generation wireless routers HP as of right now is the only machine that uses true 5ghz network speeds with Intel's Ultimate6300 Intel's ultimate 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi adapter for business and home. The Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6300 dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), 3x3 adapter delivers up to 450 Mbps¹ bandwidth, maximum range and reliability, and unique Intel-only features including Intel® Wireless Display, and Intel® vPro(tm) technology support. In closing great machine, yes not the latest but a solid performer with 3 year warranty with good price to boot at Amazon if you're not a gamer this machine will last you for a long time.

P.S. Do your research before you buy, read the small print cross-reference with components manufactures and you'll have a good buy and great machine that meets your needs

I have had this computer for about 2 years, using it primarily for school use. The computer has done its job for the most part. Windows Professional isn't exactly necessary for business students, as my primary uses for this computer are Chrome, Office, iTunes, and Torrenting. I think the main reason why I went with it was because it had the side number pad (I use excel frequently for accounting and finance).

I purchased a 3-year warranty for it and I'm glad I did. The screen is very flimsy you must be careful about grabbing the cheap plastic that encases the screen along the sides. I've done this twice and I have had to get a new screen both times. With that being said, the screen is very high quality and the resolution is almost comparable to my Retina Display iPad.

This computer is incredibly heavy, and is not ideal for travel, walking to class, bringing to work. Also, the battery life is not great (4 hours?) and the computer gets very hot if it is sitting on your lap.

Maybe I did not buy this computer for the proper reasons, but it is not that amazing. Very average.

Bought this laptop almost three years ago, and have never had a major issue with the thing. Everything still works except for the little keyboard illuminator which got jammed shut (which I never used anyway).

I am most impressed with this machine's ability to survive spills. I spilled an entire beer right on the keyboard, and after quickly flipping it over and removing the battery and keyboard, I let it dry overnight. The next morning I pried all the keys off and soaked them and scrubbed the board, then rinsed the whole keyboard with distilled water. 12 hours later the machine was working, and as clean as it was brand new.

The thing has also fallen off multiple counters, no problems yet. Battery still lasts a long time.

Overall a great buy.
