ASUS K50IJ-BNC5 Intel Pentium Dual Core 15.6-Inch HD LED Laptop - Black

I could not be happier with this. It came in the box with all of the plastic wrapping and looked brand new, not like a refurb to me. The backlit keyboard is so nice. I don't know why that is so hard to find. Battery life is amazing. Doing email and MSOffice in the car, we drove from an hour north of Sacramento to the Grapevine and I was working on it the entire way.... at least 5 hours and still had not died when we got to a motel.

It's not the fasted chip, but it runs Adobe CS5 and MS Office and quickbooks just fine, so what more do you want? Oh... I am not a gamer, so doubt it would be great for that. But what a deal!

This is not going to be an extensive review. I simply want to make a quick point that this laptop, at the price paid for the refurbished model, is an incredible value. It's plenty fast for those that just want a laptop for work (connecting to Citrix, Terminal Services, web) and personal (web surfing, email, blogging, etc.). I keep the screen brightness at around 20% and it's plenty bright for use indoors at home. With that brightness level and the power options set to "Power saver" with a few tweaks I'm regularly getting 6 hour run-time (as advertised). Even with it set to power saver the laptop still performs really well for my needs, including watching the occasional video (even 1080p). One last note, I really love having a back-lit keyboard, which I keep at the lowest setting. I wish the back-lit keyboard had an even lower brightness setting because the lowest setting is still quite bright for my needs. But I'm still getting 6 hour run-time so I'm not really complaining. I believe all laptops should have back-lit keyboards. I don't understand why it's such a rare option still. So that wraps it up. Not an extensive review, just my thoughts on nearly a week using my new laptop. The biggest concern for me was battery life and this laptop lives up to my expectations. Great job Asus!

The computer works but not as fast as a cheap HP. The refurbishing did not add any good features but it added a few bad features. It works but not very well.

Toshiba Satellite L755D-S5162 15.6 -Inch Laptop (Silver)

I bought this laptop a week ago from Amazon. It arrived on time and looked great out of the box. I switched it on and was running windows in less than 5 mts.. The keyboard and scroll pad are nice. Charged the battery to 100% and did video/audio streaming for 3.5 hrs continuously. The battery lasted all along with 13% left after 3.5 hrs. The laptop also felt cool. Excellent graphics and HD pictures. I think the laptop will easily last 5.5 to 6 hrs on normal use. That is value for my money right there. The webcam, mic and LED screen are decent. There are 3 USB ports and there is also a sleep n charge, which means I don't have to have the computer on to charge my USB devices. That is a cool feature. Also, the laptop weighs abt 5.5 lbs and that is not too bad to carry around. I have owned 3 HP laptops before and this is my first Toshiba laptop. I'm very happy with it.

The price is an advantage. $479.99 for a quad core processor with excellent graphics and all standard features. I did not pay tax or shipping to amazon. This is the best deal I found online for a great processing power, excellent battery life, everyday computing laptop. Did I mention it did not produce any heat? I saved around $20 on a cooling pad!

Just one gripe for me: There is no volume control button on the keyboard.

I really liked this laptop a lot but unfortunately received one of the pieces with a faulty BIOS. If you put the laptop to sleep, upon "waking" it, the systems starts (you can tell that by the sound of the hard disk whirring and other system sounds) but the display does not resume and remains dark. I tried reinstalling the display driver but that didn't help. Apparently, the solution is to update the BIOS which should be done by experienced users only (which I am not) to avoid bricking the laptop. Having said that here are the pros and cons

PROs:

Quad Core Processor: I bought this laptop for $430 and that is a great, great price for a quad core. I was apprehensive about buying an AMD based machine at first but upon comparing it with an Intel core i3 2350M machine; I found that the A6 is a much better processor.

RADEON HD 6520G: The highlight of this machine is the 6520G GPU. For a low end machine this GPU gives amazing performance. I am casual gamer so buying a machine with a dedicated card wouldn't have been cost effective for me. I was happy to discover that I could play graphics intensive games like Crysis, Crysis 2, Modern Warfare 2 & 3, Battlefield 3 at 1366 x 720 resolution with 30 40 fps easily. The Intel HD 3000 sucks at all these games.

CONs:

The only con was the nasty BIOS bug. I think Toshiba got a batch of faulty BIOSes and some of the laptops are acting up because of that, which is shame really as the performance of this laptop at such a low price point is really nice. But thankfully Amazon came to the rescue here with their wonderful return policy and that is one of the reasons I gave 4 stars and not lower. With such great service, Amazon has a lifetime customer in me.

I was amazed at how quickly my laptop came! I opened the box and immediately started to get my laptop up and running. I was just starting the installation and my mouse froze up! I called Toshiba tech support, the male that was helping me, at first gave me "attitude" I was ready to hang up and decided to take a deep breath and chill. Once we got over that moment, we got down to brass knuckles and I was told to power off, remove the power cord and remove the battery...30 seconds later, all was replaced and no more problems with the mouse.

The laptop is a little heavy...I didn't pay attention to that when I was comparing several different laptops, before the purchase, but I'll get used to it. lol

Windows loaded quickly and now I'm off & running. I love the brightness and crispness of the screen. The laptop is very quick and responsive.

I feel that I've made a great choice in this laptop!

With this purchase, I also got a wireless mouse and a cooling pad. I recommend you do the same, so that when it all arrives, you're all ready to enjoy your new laptop!

First, for all that spread silly rumors:

This laptop SURE DOES have keys for volume down and up; FN+3 and FN+4. Looking at them right now.

So. My two weeks with the laptop. Pretty fast for what it is.

Mind you, I DO NOT play games. Angry Birds occasionally, but that's it.

Pros:

Crisp picture

Battery life is GREAT I get about 3.5 hours actively using it, almost 5 hours not actively using it

Does not get hot at all

Can't think of any cons right now..

Problems battery at first few starts would NOT charge. I read online and some people complained as hell and cursed Toshiba;

lack of customer support, crappy CS, etc.

What happened is that no matter how long I kept the laptop plugged in, battery still showed 0% and NOT charging.

So I shut it down, removed the battery, booted the computer up (while on charger),

then inserted the battery. Started charging right away. I don't know why this happened,

but this is how I resolved the issue.

I also ditched Win7 immediately, running Ubuntu on it, ETKA, etc., with MS Office 2007 running flawlessly

(2010 kept asking for .NET 4.5, and .NET 4.5 wouldn't install for w/e reason I was in a hurry and simply slapped 2007 on it).

No complaints at all for the two weeks that I had it.

I am very pleased with this product... I like Toshiba computers after having my last one last six years with no breakdown. I like the color. The new one's battery has been lasting something under one and one-half hours, I think. Amazon delivered it quickly and in good shape. It runs with Windows 7 my old programs and new ones too. I had thought I would like to wait until Windows 8, to get a new computer, but I could not stand the old computer's slow and faulty running any longer. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it to anyone who just needs a workhorse home computer. The price point seemed very good to me.

I run database programs for genealogy, word processing programs, and photo editing programs. I have a mapping program and use google earth and maps. I store and use a lot of MP3's from cd's and library books. I watch movies streamed from internet providers. I attach the computer to a printer and portable scanner, and print via a home network. I ordered it on Monday, received it on Tuesday afternoon. Shipping that fast in unheard of. I have been using it and I really don't see what problem everyone had with Windows 8. It's really easy to use. The laptop is very nice. Huge crystal clear screen, fast, quiet, and so many features I'm sure I'll never use them all. I will come back and share the device progress in a few months.

First is cheap after that good. the configuration in pretty and work very ok, the screen is enough to see your movies.

Purchased this computer and when it arrived the charger didn't work. When I contacted the company they stated they knew there was a problem with the transformer and issued me a $20.00 credit to buy another one. So, I bought another one and when I hooked it up the computer said the battery is bad. Now I am once again attempting contact with the seller and still don't have a computer that I can run via the battery (only plugged in) . What a drag

The first one crashed after a few days. It was quickly replaced. The new one works great and is a bargain that the price I purchased it -under $500.

ASUS R704A-RB31 17.3" Notebook PC - Black

Much more my style! I know where things are and appreciate the stimulus for growth in making Windows 7 familiar to me. I love the larger screen and 'soft' key touch. I came into the computer world kicking and screaming. This unit is 'user friendly' which I need!!

I have it for about a month now. Seems to be a decent notebook which has pretty much everything one would need. Only thing I'm missing is Bluetooth and a DVI port.

I like the special standby/instant on feature. It actually works well. Also cool is ASUS's one year accidental damage warranty. Just the notebook plastic case feels a bit cheap to me but I'm sure it's as strong as any other notebook's case. It feels light though maybe it's some special carbon mix. I'm going to put more memory in asap. The max is 8GB. There is 4GB build in and one open slot. I wonder if I have to buy 4GB or one 8GB module. The manual doesn't say. Anyone?

NQ088AWABA - HP EliteBook 2730p Tablet PC Centrino 2 vPro - Intel Core 2 Duo SL9600 2.13 GHz - 12.1

This is my second HP business tablet. You can find my review of the 2710p somewhere on Amazon. The fact that this is the second HP tablet I bought should tell you something.

My model is like the one listed here, but with an outdoor screen (higher contrast for use outdoors).

The positives:

+ LOW weight. Check the specs, but having schlepped everything from a "desktop replacement" 17 inch laptop to a netbook, I can say that this thing is LIGHT.

+ LONG battery life. I haven't run down the internal battery yet, and it has gone well over 4 hours. This may have something to do with Windows 7, which I have installed. A 4+ hour battery life at this weight is awesome. I'll add the slim battery slice and probably have over 12hrs of battery life.

+ Well-built. This computer, like its predecessor the 2710p, uses lots of metal and feels solid in your hands. I abused the heck out of my 2710p, and never had any problems with any hinges, latches, screen, etc.

+ Fast. My 2710p was a 1.2GHz/4GB RAM, which felt pretty slow. This one feels very fast and responsive in comparison, and much faster than an AMD 1.9GHz dual core that I also have. With an SSD, this thing would really fly.

+ Quiet. This one is even quieter than its predecessor. The fan rarely turns on. I can take notes in meetings without the disturbing whine of the fan.

+ Screen. The screen is awesome. I can work outside in sunlight with snow on the ground. Writing on the screen is very natural feeling, like writing on paper with a good ballpoint pen.

+ The little things. Built-in camera works GREAT with any video phone/conferencing app. There is no feedback, camera quality is good, and frame rate is good at 800x600. Stylus doesn't get lost due to a friction lock (2710p stylus would pop out and wander away). Keyboard has a good feel and is full size.

The negatives:

Speakers. I didn't think the speakers could get WORSE than the 2710p, but the speaker on this thing is barely louder than a headphone removed 30ft from your head. The speakers are simply awful.

Video output. There is no DVI output. Come on HP, this thing is not a 10-year old platform, why can't you put a DVI port on this or the dock?

2 USB ports. TWO USB ports is NOT enough. Period.

Power block. The power block is small, but it could be MUCH smaller. This tablet fits great in a portfolio, but where do you stick the power block? I guess if you have the slim battery slice, you won't need the power block much, but still, it sure would be nice to have a tiny power supply BUILT IN to the laptop so that all you need was a cord. Compaq made laptops with built-in power supplies many years ago. I'd really like to see that come back.

Screen. I know I said the screen is awesome, but I'd like just a bit more real estate and higher resolution. There is about 1/2 inch all the way around the edge that they could stuff some more pixels into.

Summary:

This tablet, like its predecessor, is a winner. No, it's not a Mac, and I'm very happy about that. I don't need to be "cool" with my electronics, I need them to do what I want and how I want without paying extra for "cool" and fighting the manufacturer at every turn to get the thing to work the way _I_ want. Besides, there is no Mac tablet. Once you use a tablet, you will wonder how you got by without one. I only considered this one and a Thinkpad, because I want the touchstick mouse, which is MUCH easier to use than an external mouse or touchpad when you are in a vehicle or moving around. This one gets a nod with its add on battery that is a slim slice on the bottom instead of a bulky extension on the back. I also got burned a couple of times after Lenovo bought Thinkpad.

Get this tablet for half price from HP refurb. For less than this thing costs new, I got it with an external 24" screen, 3 year accidental damage, docking station, external keyboard, extended battery, and received it in 3 days.
