Dell XPS 14Z X14z-2308ELS 14-Inch Laptop (Elemental Silver)

Dell XPS 14Z X14z-2308ELS 14-Inch LaptopHave been using this system for a couple of weeks now and love it. Great compact design, very thin for a system with a optical drive, and the keyboard is excellent.

Pros Elegant design, slim body, great keyboard + trackpad, Intel architecture, and Dell warranty.

Cons Dell bloatware. I would prefer to see Dell load very clean installs instead of some of the useless software they will load to collect bounties.

We purchased this item for a Christmas gift in Nov 2011 and gave it to my 18 year old son Christmas Day. Since then, we have had 4 major repairs (cursar pad, wifi connection antenea, 2 hard drives!!!!) Warrenty (that I paid extra to get )has been great tech always repairs product but really ...4 major outages. Last one while my son was in the middle of a major college project. All data not backed up was lost. Arghhhhh.

Lets see if Dell makes good on their promise to look into this computer. Could we have a lemon?????

I was looking for a compact and light laptop that I can easily carry around with me and that is capable of handling graphics heavy programs, as I am a graphic designer. Price was also a big consideration. After researching many computers with NVIDIA graphics cards and intel i7 processor like this one, I discovered that besides for being absolutely gorgeous, this computer is the cheapest in its class of light and thin computers that are capable of handling a little more than microsoft office. I have to admit, the looks of this computer definitely appealed to me and may have affected my decision when buying this computer... But i have had it now for about a month and so far I have no complaints.

This is the sleekest, coolest best looking dell laptop I have ever seen. I've owned it now for several weeks (purchased through Costco, not Amazon, for slightly more $). The specs are good. 8GB Ram, 750GB Hdd, i7core, dual core processor with hyperthreading, and a high-end clock rate during burst mode. The screen is fantastic, many more lumans brighter than my other dell laptop (an old m65).

Now why did I pick this PC? Because it is as close to looking like a macbook pro without being a mac. My personal preference for any laptop, is to immediately wipe the OS and put Ubuntu on it. I am currently running Ubuntu 12.04 with kde-plasma-desktop installed; this computer is behaving like a dream.

A quick comment on the device. It has more holes (aka vents) in it than I would like, but the engineer in me knows that this is Dell Trying to make sure the PC lasts a long time (good ventilation and heat dissipation are crucial). My Wife's Macbook Pro LAPTOP overheats often, sometimes too hot to put in her LAP. My other complaint is that while the laptop screen is well aligned with the base and clearly well attached, I can see that it is mounted .5mm (check a ruler if you can't envision how small that is) further to the right, than to the left. This extremely anal way of looking at the top when closed speaks to why I bought the PC to begin with: I wanted a precision cut and designed metal housing.

I am still giving this 5 stars, because I want Dell and the world to know that there is a class of people out there, who want precision crafted PCs like this, but don't want the inane constraints and cost-overages of a Mac.

This is the best Dell I have ever owned (and I have owned more than 5). It is a combination of beauty and performance and I just love it. The only things I wished it had were a VGA output (it limits the projectors I can use, but it is common with Dell to be like that) and an easily replaceable battery, but that is not too much to worry about.

HP - ENVY 15.6" Laptop - 6GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive - Natural Silver

HP - ENVY 15.6' Laptop - 6GB Memory - 750GB Hard Drive - Natural SilverI am not a gamer or anything, but this can hold it's own-just not the carzy latest games like Far Cry or Max Payne 3..but not many laptops in the price range do. I paid $600..I do play some 3d games, and the games I want to play work. If you go to Futuremark's website, and put in the spec for this computer, you shall see that this play 100% of the games at the MINIMUM settings at 71% at MAXIMUM settitngs! Not bad for $600! Plus, the backligh keyboard is nice and the fingerprint reader is handy for more security. It certainly is much quieter than my 7 year old Gateway which just didn't turn on. I cocluded it was a motherboard or power supply issue-and it was a hassle to get someone to troubleshoot. I figured I'd just buy a laptop-it's a great machine! Annd the once reviewer who gaave this 1 star based on lack of "restore" disks..well, that just being ignorant! Very few..except maybe old skoll Dells game w/ the system CDs. To base a review on that alone is LUDICRIOUS!!

A few things to get off my chest first.

1. Restore discs don't ship with computers any more...they just don't. It's not hard to make the restore discs yourself. DO IT IMMEDIATELY.

2. If you don't know how, pay someone.

3. No idea what virus program you would have to load as soon as you un-box this laptop, considering it ships installed with Windows Defender active on start up. I don't even know where to begin on the comment that the aforementioned anti virus ruined the OS. What the hell did you install, dude?

4. Don't 1 star a laptop that bricked from user error.

Now, I've had this laptop for a few weeks now and I love it. The Trinity A-10 4600M processor with discrete class gpu is powerful enough to compete with an i-5 running an Intel hd integrated gpu. I just installed a crucial m4 256gb SSD and upgraded the ram to 16gb, did a clean install of Win8 and this baby screams.

This isn't JUST HP, but we can start with them. So they ship you this computer, but withhold the 3 OS and Restore discs that would cost a $1 during manufacturing to package with the computer. Then they want $16 for the discs, postage, and handling later; except most people don't know they need them until their machine is in a bad way. So then when you need them the most, your waiting for delivery. So by "saving the planet" they are wasting more fuel, packaging, and time by SELLING to you what is already yours. Sure, on some machines you can burn your own, but when you get a new machine, with new antivirus that says "load immediately" which then crashes the OS prior to building one system restore point and your machine is toast, then what?

Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 0633 - Core i3 2.13 GHz - 14? - 4 GB Ram - 500 GB HDD

Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 0633 - Core i3 2.13 GHz - 14? - 4 GB Ram - 500 GB HDDBeen using my y460 for a year and half, never once had any troubles so far with it, its been rock steady with usage around 10 hours a day. I do everything on it from video editing to gaming, since its got a dedicated card I can do all those things without the hassle of waiting to long for the editing stuff, in some programs at least the GPU helps. I would say buying any laptop even a ultrabook now without a dedicated card is just silly even though there is better CPU integrated graphics like the Intel HD 4000 in the new IVY bridge processors to me no laptop should be without a dedicated graphics chip, just really silly if you ask me to not have it.

Watch out for the new Lenovo ideapads that have just been announced the Lenovo Ideapads Y400/Y500, they got back lit keyboards and the ability to swap out optical bays called ultrabays that let you add a second graphics card in SLI, a freaking 14 inch laptop that is actually 13.6 inches wide with SLI, HAH, amazing!

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 15.6-Inch LED Laptop (Black)

Toshiba Satellite P755-S5270 15.6-Inch LED LaptopI purchased this laptop after a long deliberation surrounding make, model and features; this piece has everything and more for a laptop under $1000.00. The last laptop I owned was a Toshiba and it lasted me for 6 years. This i5 "Sandy Bridge" is quick and responsive to my multi-tasking needs. I just upgraded my desktop with the same series of processor and I couldn't be more pleased. The P755 has a great graphics card and built in USB3 port. The Harmon/Kardon speakers are a big improvement and provide very nice sound for a laptop. Overall, if you are considering a quality laptop that is going to give you a big bang for your buck, while sticking with a leading name in the notebook industry, you need to really consider the P755-S5270.

The laptop delivers an awesome performance. Its great Nvidia video card lets you play every game availabe. The second generation Intel Core i5 runs with a score of 6.9 and its ram memory at 1333 MHz runs with a score of 7.1 (on a 7.9 basis). Great laptop, a great machine which replaces the A660 series that were great as well. Recomended.

Short review, hello everyone!

This laptop is fantastic. Knowing quite a bit about computers, buying laptops is pretty hard for me because they can get quite expensive sometimes. This particular laptop is perfect in price and I would expect something like this to be in the 900-1100$ range for what is provided in it. This laptop has the new series i5 cpu and I can get around 3.0 GHz at full performance. In comparison, with the GT540M graphics card I can run Oblivion at ultra performance with everything on including 4X Anti-Aliasing. However, this laptop can get quite hot, I highly recommend a cooling pad. It is extremely fast and does everything more than I expected.

Another happy customer, great pricing and shipping from Amazon.

I have had it about a month. No real issues so far. Performing very well in all the applications I have tried.

Before buying:

Before purchasing I did some research on the web and I did a lot of comparing on processors and graphics processors on the Passmark Software CPU benchmarking website. I knew I wanted a Sandy Bridge processor so the 2410M looked like it. I also wanted to get the best GPU I could or at least something better than the Intel on board graphics. I wasn't as concerned about hard drive size or RAM since they are expandable later. I wanted teh 15.6" screen vs a 17" or smaller 13"/14". I did not consider any HP models due to past bad experience with a laptop and the reviews I have seen of some of their laptops and desktops lately. I looked at Dell and the pricing to get the specific components I wanted was a little higher. Not all Dells were built equally I could see. The ones on their website had better components than the ones on Amazon or other sites at the same price level. I had considered some Asus models due to the pricing but ultimately went with Toshiba due to their reputation and reviews.

Good:

Its doing everything I have wanted it to do without any issues. No overheating issues and the fan is pretty quite when it does kick on. MS Office 2007 is loaded and works well. No lag or bogging down with it. I have World of Warcraft running with all of the graphics settings on high or ultimate with no issues. That is the only time it really heats up. I like the USB 3.0 plug. I uploaded from my external backup hard drive in minutes what would have taken hours on my old PC with a USB 1.0.

Could be better:

I have hooked the HDMI up to our 52" Panasonic but was disappointed in the graphics quality both for movies and games. I had to turn the graphics settings way down on WoW to get it to run smoothly. The Geforce GPU doesn't seem to be able to drive the bigger screen. Don't get me wrong it does great on the laptop screen just don't expect to run a large screen at the same quality.

I did have some trouble loading some older software but that was due to Windows 7. I would have that trouble with any PC running Win 7.

The placement of the USB, power, and audio plugs interferes with the DVD drive and using an external mouse. I wish some of the plugs were on the back but looking at how it appears to be laid out internally I can understand why they are on the sides towards the front.

My biggest grief with the purchase is that a week later I saw the 17" version with an i7 sandy bridge (I think it was the 2510M) for less at an office supply store. Amazon now has this PC for much less than I paid. Such is the way of PC prices though.

Overall very happy with the purchase and would recommend this laptop and Toshibas in general to anyone buying a new laptop.

After three weeks of owning this laptop I have nothing but great things to say. My initial experience has been incredible. The second generation i5 has been able to handle anything that I've thrown at it. Battery life is optimal for 5+ hours. All of the games I've thrown at it have been played at 45+ fps on high settings and with DX11 enabled. Needless to say, I love, love love this laptop!

Sony VAIO VGN-NS290J/L 15.4-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB

Sony VAIO VGN-NS290J/L 15.4-Inch Laptop BlueSpecifications list a high-end "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3430 graphics (2040 MB total shared)". NOT. The product only has the low-end "Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family". BURNED.

Indeed, a search on Sony's website confirms this.

As such, it is certainly not powerful enough for gaming, and probably not powerful enough for the Blue-Ray player included. In any event, the advertisement is false advertisement. Buyer beware.

I ordered this laptop as a replacement/upgrade to my old one. I haven't found anything either wrong with it or not as described. I actually shortly after, bought a similar laptop (VGN-NS150J) for my mom as a present. Amazon had the best price I could find and free shipping was decently fast. No complaints. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

For the price this laptop offers, it's a pretty good deal. Be Sure that when you do get it you know what it's for.

The video card is by far the systems downfall, it's (as an early reviewer said) an intel 4 family video card so those looking to any high end or recent gaming might be looking elsewhere, a gaming laptop with this display size at this price doesn't exist. That being said, it still plays games like WoW on lower (not lowest, but lower) settings and it can be enjoyed comfortably. Any game circa 2004 will run fine, but you shouldn't be expecting much from an on-board video card (also I stress that laptop video card upgrades typically are impossible)

The Machine does have a Blu Ray drive and I'm sure Sony is more than interested in you watching their new format on it, and to be honest despite the max resolution of 1280x800 the Blu Rays really shine, they look gorgeous and clean ... the problem is there is no DVI ouput just VGA which means you will be watching them on the laptop and nothing else if you want to enjoy your Blu Ray. I have a PS3 though, for home use. Still, it's nice when you go on a trip and need to take your favorite high def movie along. Despite the weaker card the computer still makes Blu Ray look good, an earlier review speculated it wouldn't be possible but it is. It looks fine.

The design of the computer is really nice, the body of the computer is textured almost like cloth giving it a comfortable feel. I have one friend who bizarrely enough will rub my computer when he sees it I have to admit it is rather nice feeling. Sony has always had a nice design aesthetic and it shows here, with a nice looking, well laid out keyboard, and solid feeling construction. The shape and feel of the laptop really has that sleek minimalist feel that many companies today seem to be going for. Which is simply because it makes the machine look good, I dunno what else to say there.

The computer isn't without its flaws, however. For starters Sony includes an incredibly large amount of software with the computer. Some programs are useful, but largely they waste your space with some very insulting programs, like a wireless setup wizard that takes you to the default windows one, no one needs to waste space on such asinine programs. Vaio update, alternately, seems useless until you discover their drivers are edited for the laptop so you have to go through them. Another bizarre decision on Sony's part.

In conclusion if you're a person who wants a computer that isn't embarassingly ugly with a sleek classy minimalist design, and wants good performance in a mid-priced laptop, this very well could be for you. If you're looking to do heavy high-end gaming or need your first Blu Ray player there are better ways to spend your money for both of those.

Hope this helps and answers any questions anyone has.

Dell Inspiron i15N-4092BK 15-Inch Laptop (Black)

Dell Inspiron i15N-4092BK 15-Inch LaptopI have been buying Dell computers for years. This is my fourth Dell laptop and I've had 3 of their desktop models. I know this is not their top of the line or even mid line, but I'm currently a student and, well, you probably know about a student budget.

Anyway, it came with tons of Dell programs installed which I don't need because the hog the memory and take forever to boot. But my real issue is that it keeps dropping the wireless internet connection. I bring up a site and surf around conducting my studies and then i click a link and it loads and loads and loads and never finishes loading. I have a feeling it is McAfee, preloaded of course (how else would these companies make money), which I will remove as a test. The point is that I should not have to tweak a brand new computer to make it work at all.

My mom and my sister each bought the less expensive Acer from Wal-Mart and they have had no issues, even on my network. The outside of the computer is better quality on the Acer as well. I have always loved Dell, but maybe its time to try something else.

My parents were in the market for new computers because they really needed new ones. They were still using HP desktops from 2001... They purchased two of these through my account here on Amazon for the free two-day shipping. Neither of them are tech savvy, so I helped them set up their new computers, transfer their photos, etc. This is a simple process with a USB flash drive or other external storage device. Considering what they were coming from, they are very happy with how fast their new laptops are. (I have a custom PC I built with Corsair SSD's in RAID 1 so....it is hard to get any better than that. These are a lot slower than that, but decent for the 600 dollar price tag in my mind).

For being in the $600 range, this laptop is pretty good. The boot up is a little slow, but that is normal considering the 5400 RPM drive. The machine will slow down when multiple programs are trying to queue the HDD simultaneously, however there is more than enough storage for whatever they want and need to put on their computers. The battery life is about average; 3-4 hours depending on how you have the machine configured.

Both computers had no defects from the factory and Amazon had them packaged pretty well as usual. The Core i5 is more than enough processing power for what they are doing with the computer(s). I mean, common, a Core 2 Duo would be more than sufficient for word processing and checking email. My dad runs Quick Books along with a few other business programs for helping him manage his business, and the i5 has absolutely no problems running those programs either.

They wanted a model with a somewhat large amount of RAM from the factory so I would not have to open it up for upgrades very soon. Six GB of RAM is not the largest amount, but it is enough for the run-of-the-mill, everyday tasks. For some reason they do not want to trust me with opening up their computers....yet. I am in school getting an IT degree at the moment, so maybe they'll change their mind when I am certified; I don't know...

There was one difficulty with these laptops; both machines had this issue. This laptop comes with a 30 day free trial for McAfee's software. I decided to start from scratch and uninstalled the trial version. My mother still insisted on using McAfee Security Center where I recommended Norton, and while I was attempting to download and install McAfee's software (which I did several times), neither machine would accept the download and install attempts. She had just spent the $100 for a two year subscription too. I ended up having to call the McAfee customer service department, and they said Dell has a firewall on these machines that will not let you install third party security software unless it is through Dell. I have never heard of this before, and seemed like a false explanation from their end. In any case, I had to let them take control of the computers remotely to get McAfee's software installed. It took an hour and a half on the phone with a guy who spoke rough English to get them both up to speed with security software. Not terribly bad on McAfee's end, I think.

Anyway, without that minor hiccup trying to get McAfee installed there were no issues; not a single dead pixel on either machine, etc. I have only bought and worked with these new laptops from Dell, and an ASUS laptop which is for my personal use, and like my ASUS, there were several useless programs pre-installed. I hope this is not becoming the norm, but getting rid of the pre-installed stuff you do not want is easily taken care of through the Programs and Features in the Control Panel. The sound is not that great, but that is normal for laptops in my experience. A nice pair of headphones that can fix that. Ultimately, this is a pretty good machine that will serve any general purpose needs. But if you can afford it, I would still recommend an Ultrabook.

Bought instead the 15R with 6GB mem and 1T hard drive for $499.99. This one also has the same body structure. Notice the plastic around the keyboard squeaks and has hollow feeling. This is unacceptable for this price. I returned mine and also at the store noticed that the ones at display do have the same problem. I then search online and found this:

Build quality is generally pretty strong for a mostly plastic notebook, but you'll notice some minor flexing in the plastics if you firmly squeeze the notebook in your hands or press hard on the keyboard while typing. The main chassis, while reasonably strong, has a "hollow" feeling which makes you think there is some unused space inside this black box. Please note that the body construction is the same in 15N

TOPSELLER X301 SU9400 2776P6U 13.3-Inch Laptop

TOPSELLER X301 SU9400 2776P6U 13.3-Inch LaptopHi!

Received my X301 2 weeks ago from Electronica Direct and I would like to thank them for the excellent prompt service, This product is 2776-P6U it has all the above mentioned specs + AT&T wireless WWAN HSDPA 7.2 + GPS once you put your hand on the X301 you will notice that built quality is superior to the current T series meanwhile the reason why I'm rating this product 3 stars only is because of the keyboard its just awful!!! It flexes excessively specially the left side just like a cheap notebook! from what I came to know Lenovo implemented a new keyboard design that caused the problem I have contacted Lenovo with the matter and they informed me that they will look into it and I'm still waiting! The main reason I always buy ThinkPad's is the legendary IBM keyboard and now it's gone! I'm very disappointed with my X301 and I don't recommend it!

I am 90% happy with this laptop. It is very light and very portable. Mine came with Windows XP pre-installed and a set of Vista 'restore' disks. These didn't work (I called Lenovo support and their suggestion was to wipe the hard-drive and start again, which I did but that made no difference) so I had to install my own copy of Vista. It then took 2 days to download all the updates to my copy of Vista and all the X301 drivers.

However, now it is up and running, it works very well. You can notice the benefit of low access-time of an SSD, particularly when it comes to tasks such as browsing picture thumbnails. It boots pretty quickly too. I would point out a few things gripes worth knowing though..

The battery-life is listed in the specs as up-to 5.5 hours. In my experience that is really around 3.5 hours.

The processor is a little under-powered and this can show itself in video playback.

The fingerprint scanner doesn't seem to work half the time (but who cares?).

That all sounds a bit negative, but on the whole I am impressed. If I had my money back I would buy an X301 again!

I am currently on my 8th or 9th ThinkPad since IBM debuted the ThinkPad Iine in 1992 and continue to prefer the overall quality, portability, screen resolution, utility and look of the X series laptops.

My current 13" ThinkPad X301 with an SSD is ultra-slim, weighs 3.2lbs., has clean simple lines, and is appropriate for business meetings. With the Enhanced Experience (EE), these laptops are also much quicker at boot-up and in processing when multi-tasking. Of all the laptops I have tried, I prefer not only the keyboard and overall ergonomics of the ThinkPads, but the balance, solid construction and feel.

I dock it to a 24" monitor and wireless keyboard when at home, and will sometimes carry a simple bookstand and wireless travel keyboard when working on a lot of spreadsheets, PPT presentations or word processing. This way, I can open the ThinkPad all the way, place it in the bookstand, and have the screen at eye level. It is thin and light enough to do this.

The solid state duo core processor makes for a quick boot-up and multi-tasking. Have owned the X301 for over 2 years and have not had any issues with it. I do run a good utility program to keep it running smoothly.

For business purposes, the simple lines of the matte black carbonite case makes for a durable travel laptop with a solid construction that is not distracting in presentations (think Alienware).

Visually and tactically, I do prefer the matte black and design of the X-series ThinkPads.

Dell Inspiron i17RN-6470BK 17-Inch Laptop (Diamond Black)

Dell Inspiron i17RN-6470BK 17-Inch LaptopI bought this laptop through Dell. The only difference between the one advertised here and mine, is I have a 1TB HDD, and 8 Gigs of RAM.

Pros: VERY speedy processor. Big bright screen, with beautiful color reproduction. Full sized keyboard with numeric keypad. The mouse pad is smooth, and easy to use. This laptop runs cooler than other Dell Laptops I have owned. The graphics card makes for good gaming on even the most current games. The webcam is very nice, and is full HD. There are FOUR USB ports, two of which are speedy 3.0. Great battery life for a laptop of this size. Amazing sound for a laptop. Although some don't like the placement of the speakers, you will be impressed with what you hear.

Cons: VERY SLOW BOOTING. This was a known issue I was aware of before purchase. For those who don't know, all Inspiron 17s no matter what the configuration, take well over two minutes to be able to start surfing the web. (This is due to the slow 5400 RPM HDD.) This laptop is Heavy. The keyboard is not backlit. (Dell never claimed it was, but it is something I hope they remedy in the future) The finish is a fingerprint magnet. The screen is very reflective if used outdoors. However, as this is more of a "Desktop Replacement," I assume that wont be an issue for most.

Windows Experience is very impressive:

Processor: 7.5

Memory: 7.6 (That is with 8 gigs 1333 MHZ)

Graphics: 6.6

Gaming Graphics: 6.6

Primary hard Disk: 7.9 (Upgraded to a SSD)

(Six month review) The issue with slow booting is gone. I installed and cloned all partitions of the slow 1 TB 5400 HDD, (5.9 WEI) to a Kingston SSD. (7.9 WEI) Now my boot time is about 15 seconds from BIOS to ready to go! No issues, still works like a champ!!

(EIGHT MONTH UPDATE) 12-22-12: Had first issue with the Laptop. Several pixels ended up "stuck," leaving a line about an inch long, on the display. I messaged a Dell Tech On Line last Friday, and the defective Screen was replaced without question, on Monday. Granted, the new screen has two random dead pixels, but was a sealed, new unit so aside from that, am very pleased with the experience. The service was fast, and no money out of my pocket. Dell Support is amazing, and those who complain about about it, must just hate the Company. Thanks Dell, for taking care of the issue so quickly!!

All in all I LOVE this laptop. I truly hope this information helps you.

If you're like me and prefer the full keyboard over the minute boards they normally put into these laptops, then be sure to check this out! I waited for about a year to find something like this and voila, here it is! Tons of memory, a fast processor, and the full keyboard. However, you may want to check out the price on the local shopping network that begins with a q. I bought mine from them and received a TON of extras, programs, etc. for less than what they're charging here for just the computer and a battery. The battery has a tremendous long life, the memory is huge tons of gaming possibilities, you can run a million different programs at once, and the thing is lightening fast. We bought this to go with our AT&T U-verse subscription since our old 512mb old "dog" computer just couldn't keep up with all the live streaming, gaming, and research that we have to perform. Normally, we buy the larger 21 inch screens to attach to the laptops but this guy, with the 17-inch screen, REALLY helps and you really can do without it. I've had mine for 4 months now and it is just a wonderful purchase one of those things you know you spent "well."

Grab it but shop around first for price. Again, the q makes it a great value but their best values, if you can wait, is around Christmas. You just cannot beat the quality of a Dell, an Intel processor, and windows 7. HIghly recommend!

Dell Latitude D830 15.4' LaptopNow i was really skeptical about buying this laptop because it looked a little too good to be true, but wow am i glad i did. If your looking for a gaming or hightech laptop, this is not for you. This laptop would best suit a business proffesional. I've only had it for 2 weeks but its already exceeded my expectations. Im very happy with my purchase. The only con that i could truly say bothers me is that the battery only lasts about 40 minutes off the charger so im gonna have to go and purchase a new battery, but for the price of a 2.4 ghz duo core, 160hd, 4gbs of ram, theres not much complaining here.

I have been working on computers for 20+ years, installing, upgrading, repairing and using them. Dell is the only computer that I would recommend if anyone ever asks me. I have setup and sold several of these refurbished Dells and everyone loves them and the price.

Dell - Inspiron Laptop I1440-2630OBK Obsidian Black with Intel Pentium 2.2GHz, 14" display, 4GB Mem

Dell - Inspiron Laptop I1440-2630OBK Obsidian Black with Intel Pentium 2.2GHz, 14' display, 4GB Memory, 320GB HD, DVD±RW/CD-RW drive, Windows 7 Home PremiumI'm usually not one for Dell products but this one is definitely serving me well. I didn't buy this laptop from Amazon but I saw the bad review and decided to put my input in to say that it's not a bad laptop at all. Microsoft office runs smoothly on it and I used to use it for basic video editing but I might sell it on here to upgrade to a quad core MAC for the extra horsepower. Coming from a college student this computer isn't anything fancy but will get the job done such as browsing, watching videos and word processing.

Summary:

1. Adapter stops working in the first year of purchase

2. Touchpad wired with wrong material and stops working in the first year of purchase

3. Permanent & annoying COntrol Panel Glitch

4. Messed up audio circuitry freezes computer

5. Transition from Windows XP to Windows 7 is painful. Windows 7 is crap.

6. Dell's repair service plan is crap.

Purchased this computer at the beginning of January 2010. Previously had a 3 year old Dell E1505 that worked perfectly. Thought I'd get the same quality three years later. Nope.

The day I took it out of the box and tried to set it up, my Control Panel froze. Ever since then, I have always had this problem. The solution is to force the Control Panel close using the Task Manager, then reopen it. ANNOYING!

In July, my adapter began malfunctioning. By August, it stopped working. Dell had to replace it. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ADAPTER LIGHT IS VEEERRY BRIGHT BLUE. Not always good for dorm room sleepers. You'll have to unplug your adapter every time to keep the light out of your eye.

Yesterday the left and right click buttons below the touch pad stopped working. Both now go to auto scroll when I click on them. Googled solutions and found numerous customers complaining about a malfunctioning touchpad. Apparently Dell uses the wrong material to make the cable connection for the touchpad. Here is a thread about it, as well as a solution from a guy who Dell themselves thanked in the thread!

Still haven't gotten my click buttons to work. Dell told me that since I'm still under the warranty, they'd send me a box to mail in my laptop for repair. But I'd be without a laptop for 7 10 days at least, since they can't give me a replacement in the mean time!

The other option would be for me to pay $59+tax for a Dell technician to come to my home to do the repair. Imagine that! And that mightn't even work!!!

What is even more annoying is that the Control Panel never works when I pull it up the first time, so trying to deal with this click button problem is just more problematic because to simply access my settings is a big deal after restart.

There is a big difference between Windows XP & Windows 7. Windows 7's user interface is deplorable. Trying to adjust settings in my problematic Control Panel yesterday to fix my click button problem was an absolute headache, because there is no Classic View in the Control Panel and if you're not familiar with the contents, you will find yourself clicking on every single heading in there just to find the one control that you want. MS Office 2007 is also drastically different from older versions. I constantly have to YouTube tutorials on how to do the simplest things in MS Word and Excel that used to be so easy to figure out in older versions of the software.

Lastly (and I'm really hoping that it's 'lastly' and that my 8 month old computer doesn't come up with any MORE problems!!!), my audio circuitry seems to be messed up. I watch movies using external speakers to give me better sound than my laptop speakers. But whenever I'm watching a movie and I receive an instant message alert on Skype simultaneously, the sound reverts back to my laptop speakers, and the external speakers are automatically deactivated. Unplugging and replugging them doesn't to get the sound back to the external speakers. My movie freezes, followed by my entire computer, and I have to force shut down by holding the power button down for 10 secs. What is that about??? This happens every time that I receive a Skype message alert while watching a movie on my computer. The messed up audio circuitry freezes my computer. Now I have to remind myself to exit Skype before running a movie!

I trusted Dell because of the positive experience that I had with my old computer. But this new Inspiron 1440 is making me never want to buy Dell again. I'm very frustrated with this "new" laptop and would just like to get my money back and buy a new computer. All the little problems have compounded to leave me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. Dell's quality has DETERIORATED over the years it seems. Unless I can get my problems fixed permanently and easily, I won't be buying from them again. I recommend that before you purchase this laptop, go google Inspiron 14 PROBLEMS, and see what comes up. You might see some recurring themes!!!

Lenovo Ideapad Z570 1024AMU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Gun Metal Grey)

Lenovo Ideapad Z570 1024AMU 15.6-Inch LaptopHad this laptop for a few days now and I love it! Its super fast, lightweight and beautiful design. I really like the keyboard. The individual letters are spread out. Only complaint to the keyboard is the enter and backspace button is little small and the left arrow is right next to the 0 which is annoying at times. I couldn't believe the price for 6GB memory 500GB RAM and i5 processor. Comparing price vs. features, Lenovo beats the competition. I've had a HP for 3 years, which broke on me, and switching over to Lenovo was the best decision I've made.

I purchased this laptop from Costco about 5 months ago. I purchased no extra warranty or any of that stuff. My general laptop-mantra is that it should only last you 2 years or so before changing to a better laptop... have to keep up with the rapidly improving industry if finances allow.

I'll start with the specs I purchased this laptop with:

i5 processor, 8 gig ram, 750 gb hard drive, no dedicated graphics card, windows 7 home

It's a pretty standard build, and for around 600 bucks, I was able to snag it from Costgo.

This is my computer that took place of my mid2009 macbook pro with 4 gb ram and intel core 2 duo + 250 gb hard drive...

I have to say that Lenovo made a solid build with this computer. It trucks through almost everything I've thrown at it! Keep in mind, this is not a gaming laptop, nor is it a heavy duty desktop replacement. Nor is it an ultraportable. It's just a 15.6 inch screen laptop with a bit of heft (but every port you could want/need) and with decent specs, it's just a really solid all-around laptop. You can find out more information on the usage and all that stuff from other reviews.

I simply wrote this to say that the product is pretty solid. One thing I will say though...about 5 months in, my motherboard fried but Lenovo offered to fix it completely for free. So really big kudos to them! Especially since my warranty was due to expire 2-3 days before they fixed it. So I'm really happy that the process went smoothly. I will say that the phone call took an hour, but it helped that I had a really nice guy from Costco keep me company while I was waiting...but that's to be expected since my Macbook Pro took 3 days to fix entirely with a similar problem (and you have to go through hordes of customers at the Genius Bar @ NYC where I'm from). So in that regard, I didn't really mind the 1 hour phone call and the mailing in of my computer.

I think I'll cling to this computer for about another year before I get a better one, but for the price...nothing beats it.

Should not be writing a review when full of anger and frustration. This laptop was a Christmas present but by Valentine's Day it was dead. It will not boot up. Appears that power supply is fine because the power bar is lighted (amber color)

What is infuriating is the type of "customer support" I received. Raja S. (who refused to give me his last name) needs extensive training in customer support and technical troubleshooting.

He mocked me when I could not locate the tiny button he said I needed to hold along with the power button, "You have to hold them for one minute."

After a minute transpired, (I actually thought we were disconnected because of the dead air on his end), I informed him that nothing happened. The laptop is still not booting up.

He said, "You have to hold the buttons for 3-5 minutes."

WHAT?!?!?

Fortunately I had two other family members with me so we took turns holding the buttons while we watched for the 5 minutes to be up.

After that Raja S. said we have to send the laptop back to the Depot and we have to pay for one way shipping. What?? No RMA# he said no.

He also said we would have to pay if they find out the laptop is damaged. Ummm.. We already paid $599. for this paperweight.

When gathering my information, Raja was not very helpful in soliciting my contact information. Again, dead air. I could not tell if he was ready for my information or not or even if he hung up on me.

I finally asked, "Hello Raja are you there?"

He got snippy and said, "I am waiting for your address not just the street where you live."

I finally flipped out at him about this whole experience. I work in customer service and would probably be given a strong reprimand if I treated my customers as I was treated.

He proceeded to put me on hold from 16 minutes.

I will never purchase another Lenovo product again based on both the reliability of the product and the lack of customer support. This is the first time I ever had a computer or laptop die after such a short period of time and this is also the first time I called a "help desk" and spoke with someone so apathetic.

Worst customer service I have ever received in my life. I bought an Idea pad laptop and it kept crashing on me. After hours on the phone they offered to fix it if I paid for the shipping. I sent the thing in twice and they replaced the hard drive twice. Pretty dumb if you ask me. Each time they claimed they tested it and claimed that it worked but the computer was still crashing. After two months of waiting for a working computer I sent it to a local computer repair shop and they fixed it with a higher voltage power supply. Lenovo refused to pay because they said it was a software issue and software is excluded in the warranty. Lenovo is a company that does not care about their customers or the quality of the product. Someone really should do something because this is just not right.

I see lots of complaints about this laptop, I purchased mine from office max not amazon, but I have had it over two years now with no problems at all. It always boots up fast, it works well with word, it has a been a great cheap laptop. I have never had to deal with customer service, but I can say it's still going strong I'm using it to type up this review. I'm not sure why so many people are having issues with it booting up I have never had this problem.

Dell Latitude D610 Notebook PC (Intel Pentium M 1.86GHz, Windows XP Professional, 512MB DDR2, 40GB

Dell Latitude D610 Notebook PCI couldn't agree more with the other reviews regarding the deceptiveness of some outfits in this case Tiger in selling refurbished items as new. I felt that it was important, however, to review the product and not the vendor. I've used the D610 professionally with great success for several years. I was so pleased with its performance that I bought one for my personal use as well as two more for my in-laws. I bought all three as refurbs but I knew what I was getting and the price was unbeatable at approximately $250.00 each. If you're a wannabe geek such as I am, you can easily find all of the service literature necessary to service the D610 yourself. I've never had to service any of the three that I bought, but I did expand the memory in all of them. I was pleased with how easy the upgrade was, how well engineered the product is, and how clear the service literature is as well. I bought a hard drive caddy and an additional 80GB HD to fit in the CD port, so now I have 2 bootable HDs and a ton of storage. If forced to search for a negative, the only thing I can come up with is the click action of the pointing device. The feel is a bit stiff and the sound is somewhat irritating. That said, if the pointing device ever became bothersome enough a USB mouse could be purchased for a couple of bucks. I was looking for another D610 to buy for my wife when I stumbled upon these reviews so I felt compelled to put in my two cents worth. Good luck with whatever product you choose!

I bought one of these laptops two months ago. It has been working just fine. Today Microsoft told me that the license is not valid. It has a valid certificate of authenticity on the back but does not have a second "refurbished" CoA. When I look at the internal System Properties/General tab it says "XP Corporate" which means it was covered under a mass/site license which can not be transferred or sold. I will probably have to buy a fresh copy of XP ($100) and re-install.

Before I made the order I checked to see that the advertisement specified "Genuine Windows XP". I also checked the CoA when it arrived. When the Microsoft updater offered to run "Genuine Advantage" to check the authenticity I confidently thought "sure, go right ahead."

I can hardly say enough good about my purchase of a used Dell Latitude D610 laptop from Tampa Laptops through Amazon.com. The machine arrived two days after I placed the order, it was exactly as advertised, worked perfectly and was priced right. I wanted to introduce my wife to the digital world, both of us being advanced in years, and to have a machine to teach her on that operated just like my desktop with XP. This laptop is perfect for that purpose and the transaction was completely painless. Thanks to Amazon for the Tampa Laptop contact and the security of purchase that Aamzon provides.

Laptop was very hot after about 20 minutes of use, almost too hot to touch mouse pad and bottom of laptop, due to a faulty/defective battery. I was afraid it was going to catch on fire; it got so hot laptop would shut down. Finally, after a few days, battery just quit charging, etc. Took the battery completely out and laptop works fine. So, now I have a "desktop" until I purchase a new battery, which is not so good because I do Medical Transcription on the go. Make sure if you purchase that you add into you budget for a new battery because I don't think they guarantee them, though my slip said battery was in good working condition, and they do not replace batteries.

Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch Laptop

Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch LaptopI've had my Samsung Series 7 Gamer laptop for over a week now, and I thought I'd share my thoughts on the machine since I haven't found much out there about it. Overall, it's a very fancy, very powerful piece of hardware. And the price certainly reflects that. While you could spend thousands more on even fancier, gobbed-out custom notebooks or even a completely tricked out Alienware the S7G was more than adequate for my purposes (and for the price of a top-end Alienware, you really should buy a desktop system, anyway). I bought the laptop for two primary reasons: 1) To run Guitar Rig 5, which is a very CPU-intensive virtual guitar amp/effects program used for performing and recording, and 2) to play games from the past several years at high levels. Gaming-wise, I'm primarily a console gamer, but since it's looking less and less like the next Xbox and PlayStation will be backward compatible with current-gen games (probably with the exception of platform-defining first-party titles like Halo and Uncharted), I wanted to start collecting my current favorites on the PC so I don't have to shelve and maintain extra consoles when the next-gen rolls around. I wanted titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum/City, Skyrim, the Mass Effect trilogy, GTA4, Fallout 3/NV, Dead Island, BioShock, and Metro 2033 to all be available when the mood strikes me. Not to mention the upcoming final round (for the Xbox 360 and PS3) of highly anticipated current-gen titles: Max Payne 3, Metro: Last Light, Far Cry 3, BioShock: Infinite, GTA5, etc.

While the S7G is definitely a brute of a laptop (in a good way), let me get its bad points out of the way first. The most negative aspect of this laptop is Samsung's proprietary Mode Dial. Basically you can turn a knob on the front of the laptop, and there are instructions built into the system to enable/disable certain features depending if you want quiet (no fan), battery savings (backlit keyboard off), or all-out gaming performance (everything on and maxed out, battery be damned). It's pointless, and what's worse, the interface that overlays on your desktop is annoying. It comes preloaded with desktop themes that will engage a screen saver after 60 seconds no matter what. The good news is from the desktop you can disable the themes and revert to a traditional Win7 desktop, which also kills the screen saver. However, there's still a clickable node in the upper-right corner of the desktop that allows you to tweak the Mode Dial settings; this will not go away. I personally have the dial set to "game" mode all the time; the likelihood that I'll used this laptop unplugged for more than a half-hour is close to zero.

The second biggest disappointment with the S7G is its plastic case. While it looks like a TRON wet dream when the lid's open, the laptop's housing is light-weight plastic. For almost 20 bills, this really needs to have a higher quality metal case. Perhaps it was an effort on Samsung's part to reduce weight, but it's probably an effort on Samsung's part to reduce its cost.

Other negatives: I have the laptop connected to an external monitor via HDMI, and I use an external USB keyboard and USB mouse (running through a USB hub). The laptop sets under a shelf, on which the monitor sits. I put the computer into sleep mode overnight and during the day when I'm at work. The problem is, the factory default settings kill the power to the USB ports when in sleep mode, and I could not get the external keyboard to "wake" the computer. The only way I could wake it is to unplug everything, move the keyboard out of the way, pull it out from under the shelf, open the lid, make sure it wakes, close the lid, slide it back under the shelf, reposition the keyboard, and plug everything back in. I wasted an hour on-line chatting with Samsung tech support, and never once did the support rep understand the problem, even though I explained it to him about 873 times. I went to Google and found the solution: you have to get into the BIOS and enable the USB devices to retain power while in sleep mode, which allows them to wake the computer. Shouldn't tech support know this? If you need to contact Samsung tech support, do yourself a favor and exhaust all other searches before you call because my on-line tech support chat session with Guptarjeeshaputa in Bombay was akin to slamming my face into a brick wall repeatedly for 60 straight minutes.

The final negative is one gamers want to pay attention to: the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M is a very, very nice GPU. However, it is essentially a rebadged GTX 580M from the previous generation. NVIDIA will soon release the new GTX 680M, which uses a whole new chipset, will be faster, and run cooler. If I did not need a new laptop immediately, I would have waited for the 680M. If you are concerned about such things, hold on a little longer until laptops are available with the new GPU.

This is not really a complaint, but more of a warning to those who might be unaware: this laptop is huge ("It sure is, Tiny Elvis!"). It's big and it's heavy, and it's not something you'll want to just pop out of your bag on the metro or an airplane. The power brick is also enormous. When I was unpacking the laptop, I saw the edge of the power supply and thought it was another box of parts. Not until I pulled it out did I realize it was the power brick! It's also worth noting that to order a second power supply, expect to spend some serious money. I ordered a travel/backup supply through Samsung parts (it's not available anywhere else), and it was about $150 for the brick and power cord (note: they are sold separately from each other, so make sure you buy both pieces). The battery also doesn't last long; expect maybe a couple of hours if you're lucky. Again, I knew this when I bought it, but if you've never owned a 17"+ high-power laptop, be aware of this stuff.

Okay, on to the positives. This laptop is very powerful. It has not choked at anything I have thrown at it (with one exception, see below). It also has a very eye-pleasing, modern design. While I normally use it with the lid closed, when I do open the lid it feels like you're at the helm of a spaceship. It's wickedly fast booting up Windows. I go from entering my Windows password to a fully ready desktop in about 10 seconds or less. This is thanks to the 8GB ExpressCache SSD. For everything going on under the hood, the heat output remains nicely under control, even under the duress of Battlefield 3 and Skyrim. While the built-in cooling system is nice, I still HIGHLY recommend a laptop cooling pad; they're inexpensive, easy to use, and keep your big investment running at a safe temp. It also has tons of storage (note that the system has two 750GB HDDs that are NOT in RAID 0, so it has a total of 1.5TB of storage, but not in a single C: drive). Also not listed in any spec sheets is the laptop uses DDR3-1600 RAM, so expect 1600 MHz speeds (verified with CPU-ID).

So far I have had a wonderful gaming experience with the S7G. I use 1920x1080 resolution for all games, and I'm generally able to get high performance numbers even at that high of a resolution. However, DirectX 11 is just a bit too much for the system to handle with some games at that resolution, and I sometimes back games down to DX10. Here are some of my performance numbers (collected using reports generated by FRAPS, or the game's internal benchmarking tool):

Batman: Arkham Asylum 54 FPS (Ultra settings, PhysX on HIGH, 4x AA)

Batman: Arkham City 47 FPS (Ultra settings, PhysX on HIGH, DX10, 4x AA)

Battlefield 3 30 FPS (Ultra settings, 2x AA)

Crysis 2 30 FPS (High Quality Texture Pack, Ultra settings, DX10)

Diablo III 60+ FPS (Highest settings, 8x AA)

Grand Theft Auto IV 62 FPS (Ultra settings, View Distance = 50, Detail Distance = 50, 8x AA, sometimes dips to < 30 FPS during top speeds in heavy traffic)

Max Payne 3 30+ FPS (with HDAO and minimum AA)

RAGE 40 FPS (Ultra settings, 16x AA)

Serious Sam 3 BFE 30 FPS (Ultra settings, 4x AA)

Skyrim 54 FPS (Hi Res Texture Pack, Ultra settings, 8x AA, 13 additional user mods running)

The only game giving me problems is The Witcher 2. To get a playable frame rate of over 30 FPS, I have to switch everything to low. With medium settings I get less than 20 FPS, and it chugs and stutters. After doing some research, I'm finding a lot of people unable to get this game running well, even on machines exceeding the recommended specs from the publisher. I am still investigating this, but I believe this is a situation where the game has incredible graphics, but is very poorly optimized. I can play Battlefield 3, Max Payne 3, and Batman: Arkham City at very high quality and not run into the frame rate problems The Witcher 2 has.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a fast gaming laptop right now, the Samsung Series 7 Gamer should be at the top of your shopping list. I looked at several other brands (Alienware, HP, Sager), and the Samsung, more than any other brand/model, met my needs at a price I was willing to pay. You can spend thousands more if you can afford it, but you get a lot of bang for your buck with the S7G. It isn't perfect, but it sure will get the job done.

Background

Purchased this system as a Grad student for both college and play.

Screen

The screen is a beautiful HD 1920 X 1080 Resolution screen. I've never seen anything like this; not even on a television. It is a retina scorching 400 nits with superb contrast and very deep blacks.

Sound

Dolby home theater surround sound. System sounds lifelike and has a built in sub-woofer. I'm very pleased with the sound quality all though I think the JBL sound system on the new regular 17.3" Samsung series 7 sounds better.

Keyboard

Most comfortable keyboard I've ever used. The keyboard slopes back to accommodate wrists and sys cooling. The keys are a curved style like Lenovo's laptops. Very ergonomic. White backlighting; "WASD" keys light red in "gamer mode."

Performance

One of the best-performing systems available for the price. Runs cool and quite. One game won't run so far; "Tribes Ascend." I'm very upset about this as it's my favorite game to play right now. It will not run on any of the new gaming laptops with 3rd gen i7. Battery life is not that good (2.5-3.5 hours). No wifi or connectivity issues. Wifi has great range and seems a little above average.

*****Coreection*******

The game would not run because of the Nvidia driver. I had to delete a file from the Nvidia driver folder. I don't recall what file was deleted. Tribes Ascend now runs on the system after deleting the file. I have not noticed any problems with the system since deleting the file.

Design

Plastic Chassis, glossy black-like finish and black-anodized brushed aluminum palm wrest and keyboard area. Overall, a beautiful and sturdy computer. I'd prefer all aluminum, but Apple would probably start another lawsuit lol :-P. At-least Samsung didn't ripoff this design. System looks both fun for gaming and professional in office environments.

Value:

Great v competition in my own opinion i.e. Dell Alienware and Asus G75. I'm am biased as Samsung is my brand of choice and Apple second to Samsung.

Concl

Overall, I'm very excited and pleased to be the owner of Samsung's first gaming system. I think they are a company that takes themselves seriously and will continue to excel in their ventures. Thanks Samsung for a high-quality and innovative gaming system.

Hope this quick overview helps.

I've had this laptop for about a week now and I absolutely love it. I have a busy lifestyle with kids so the only time I can carve out for gaming is late at night. I used to head down to the basement while my lovely wife would be in bed and play on my desktop. I got tired of feeling neglectful of my wife and getting eaten by spiders in my unfinished basement so I figured it was time to get a laptop for the bedroom.

I purchased this tray to use in the bed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GU7GAK/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00 and the laptop sits atop it perfectly.

After my wife drifts off to sleep I pull out this bad boy and am treated to spectacular gaming experience in ultimate comfort.

Pros:

Best screen on a laptop I have ever seen, it can even do 120Hz if you want. The brightness is nearly blinding (in a good way) and the black levels are excellent.

Keyboard is pleasant to play on and the backlighting really helps when playing in the dark. The best part of this keyboard is that it doesn't feel cheap and it has extensive "anti-ghosting" for gaming. It really helps when playing games that require a lot of button pressing.

Very quiet. This was a huge concern for me due to the fact I am lying next to someone while playing computer games in a bed. My wife says she has no problem sleeping with the small amount of noise it does make.

Very cool, I've had laptops that feel like they could boil a pot of water, this laptop runs at a very reasonable temperature considering the internals.

I can run all of my games on ultra (so far). I've only played Diablo 3, TF2 and SC2 so far but it looks a heck of a lot better than my desktop sporting an older 9800 GTX.

Cons:

It's HEAVY. Not really surprising considering what's in this thing but it's noteworthy. I will never travel with it so it's not a huge problem for me.

Doesn't support RAID, it comes with 2 750GB drives but no hardware raid which is kind of silly. Not the end of the world but it would have been nice.

The video card is not an AMD 7970M. The 675M is still a great card even if it's just a re-labeled 580m but it's not cutting edge anymore. I was aware of this fact when I bought it but it didn't stop me from forking over my cash based on how great this laptop is otherwise.

I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a great desktop replacement gaming laptop. It does not feel cheap; it's gorgeous and has all of the features you need for gaming. A job well done by Samsung.

Read Best Reviews of Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch Laptop Here

I read literally hundreds of reviews of everything I could find. Being retired I simply can NOT afford this. But it kept "calling out" to me....The wife "called out" a few things her own self when I showed it to her as well. But, I simply will cut to the chase and say I love this thing. I have no games that I can't run at their highest settings. To my amazement, it even plays Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods and Kings so fast it literally altered game play. I mean, it was so slow on any of my other 4 computers I had abandoned it completely. now, it simply RIPS through all that used to flat kill my other rigs.

I will leave all the already repeated hype to the others...I just want to throw out there that this is rock solid for weeks now. Bummer was the price dropped a LOT within a few minutes of my buying it but I kept it anyway. Not going to make Amazon suffer & send it back then reorder! I guess I never paid top dollar before yet came away still so happy. Only weird glitch I have had is once I had turned Bluetooth on and my games ALL turned to crap. I mean this computer flat fell on it's face! More embarrassing was it took me 2 days to figure out the problem and what I had done to screw things up. Most of the reason it took me so long is I had been playing nonstop for 18-20 hours both days! I was mortified once I realized my stupid mistake.

Other weird thing is that every single time I open the lid I KEEP getting a damned warning that my auto update feature for Windows needs to be turned on. What pisses me off is I have changed to do auto update over 200+ times already and it simply won't hold that setting! I finally turned off the notification setting altogether so I don't completely lose my old mind. Go to change the speaker volume after a few hours of game play & risk burning your finger, it DOES get that hot. But...it has been rock solid unless I do something stupid to sabotage things so not going to ding it for that. I am giving this a rare 5 stars after honestly torturing it for a month now. I will downgrade it on the spot if it bites me in any way or as I find weaknesses that simply have not shown themselves to me yet. I SO wanted the Asus to save money but all the complaints in reviews scared me off. Glad they did too after a month with this beauty. Like so many, the black is uninspiring, wish it was the candy red like at the CES show. But if after all I have done to this, WITH this the past month, if I still love it this much, at this price and with me on my meager Social Security check to live on...well, it must have EARNED that 5 stars.

Sept 25 2012 UPDATE:

I know being retired is gonna wear me out.....Now I have a battery issue. I always have it plugged in yet after 10 hours of gaming my battery is dead (well, down to 12% remaining). I am forced to close the lid and it then takes a couple hours to slowly recharge so I can resume gaming. Not sure if I am the only one having this problem? Of course I should take a break by then anyway I suppose?

October 25 2012 Update:

Samsung Support (for ME) has been a pleasant surprise. A woman who spoke perfect English and in America now less (!!!!) advised me to do a battery recondition. I did this while explaining to her she was full of crap....well surprise, it solved my problem. I now have had 3 weeks of gaming 12-18 hours a day with my newer XCOM: Enemy Unknown as well as Medal of Honor: Warfighter both as max settings with ZERO issues. Due to this and some new negative reviews that look like scam reviews by LOONS or trolls I am raising this to a well deserved 5 stars. On it's own, this deserves it. I waited to go 5 stars until it had been time tested, not to just rush in when all excited etc. And 1 warning. If you ever have to use the supplied restoration disk that Samsung provides to restore? Well as another reviewer correctly explained, you LOSE EVERYTHING you need to make this computer work! I recommend you go to Samsung NOW and do the following. Go to their support area and download each & every available download so when & if you need to restore, you will have all these drivers ready to go. If not, no track-pad, no sound, no nothing....REALLY pissed me off. It was a nightmare experience but a lesson well learned. Trust me, you NEED to do this now, before you get stuck. Now that everything has "burned in", has a couple thousand (yes thousand) hours on it, all is rock solid. Gaming has become my life sadly, but I am all smiles so why worry? 5 solid stars all around. For the record I am not any kind of Samsung "fanboy" or even Samsung "fan codger"! I have adjusted my rating on this 3 times now and maintain my reviews to honestly reflect all that I spend my money on. I am loyal to NO brand. I just call em like I see em.

10 Month Update on June 19 2013: This computer has fully EARNED it's solid 5 stars. I can't kill it. NO game I have bought even creates any challenge for it. Other than my wife, this has been love at first sight, and a love affair than has never waned......

Want Samsung Series 7 Gamer NP700G7C-S01US 17.3-Inch Laptop Discount?

I feel like i really did my research before ending up at the series 7. I was torn between this, the MSI GT70 and the ASUS G75. At the end of the day it boiled down to professional comparisons, and build quality. I saw SEVERAL editors choice awards from different publishers. The stats are slightly better than the other two as well on paper. I read over 70 other customer reviews with the only CONS being stupid crap like the charger is too big and keyboard is too thick. Boo hoo. This thing is a big bad game devouring monster that could power the starship enterprise. The build is super solid, screen is amazing, and it hasnt broken a sweat with any game or task yet. Runs super cool as well. Amazon was amazing i had it to my door 22 hours after ordering. Couldnt have spent my money better.

When I received this order I was surprised to see it was not the Toshiba but a HP Pavilion g7. So I cannot rate the Toshiba as I never received it. If I have problems with the HP as I did my last one I will let you know. I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN WHAT I ORDERED NOT A CHEAP LESS DESIRABLE PRODUCT. VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS.
