Only had the computer for about a month now and I am still learning new things that this little bundle of joy can do. I enjoy taking it where ever I go and getting different reactions to the outter shell. Even my two younger sisters want to copy me.I have had this laptop Since June 2009 and it is still going strong. I have had a number of Dell/VIAO and other laptops that did not last more than 2yrs. So I am very very happy with this HP. I highly recommend it to anyone. Just make sure you have good antivirus software and keep up to date with the patches.I am a Mom/College student and have been using my Garden of Dreams computer for schoolwork, browsing, shopping, etc. I have no complaints and my HP has stood up to the family Dell computer that we also use in the household. I couldn't be happier with my pretty HP and everyone knows that the flowery computer is Mom's and it is hands-off! It's mine. :)After reading the negative comment for this computer I felt the need to leave a review that was true to my own experience. I have now had this computer for over a year and have had absolutely NO problems with it!! I have used it in high school and through my first year of college and it never fails me. Despite it's terribly cute cover, it is fast and convienient! I especially love the fun features with the camera! I have experienced none of the problems with the touchpad, memory, speed or anything else for that matter as stated in one of the negative reviews!! I have even accidentally dropped it on it's corner before on a concrete floor, and still no problems! Not that I suggest that of course;) Overall it has been a wonderful computer to me and I get lots of compliments on the unique cover!!

I understand there can always be a bad component but when I contacted Acer I was told I had to pay $129.00 for them to diagnose the problem because they thought it was a virus. When we realized it was the keyboard I thought they would refund my money and I said so. I was told they would look over my situation and get back to me. I did need to send my computer in for them to replace the keyboard and they did. But they also kept my $129.00. That was almost 3 weeks ago and I will call them again to try to solve this disagreement.Other than the rip-off service from ACER, I love the computer. This is the third laptop I've purchased from ACER and I have always been extremely satisfied with their products.

The product arrived quickly and on time. I am very pleased with the product and the ease of set up. The screen has great resolution and it is a good product so far. I use this for my work and have mainly web-based applications and word processing needs and this has worked great to his point. I would buy it again.HP Pavilion dv7-4285dx Entertainment Laptop - Intel Core i5-460M Processor/ 6GB DDR3 Memory/ 640GB
When you lift the lid of the laptop, you have a very neat and tidy layout. The screen is huge, so there is enough room on the keyboard to have a numlocks pad. I also like the mouse pad. You can use two fingers to scroll and you can also zoom in and out on any screen (I just tested this on the desktop too, and it changes the size of your desktop icons when you do that). On my older laptop, the finger pad, left and right buttons were all separate, but on this HP it is all on one pad, so that took some getting used to for me.
I also like having the finger scanner. I use it to log on to the computer quickly no more typing in user passwords. You can also use it to log on to other websites, such as skype, wellsfargo, hotmail, gmail, facebook, etc. HOWEVER!!!!!: DON'T EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS FEATURE IF YOU ARE A GOOGLE CHROME USER!!! I hear it works on internet explorer and firefox, but as of YET, it is not compatible with google chrome. Personally, I can live without the finger scanner to log in to various sites until chrome gets this worked out I have no intention of switching to another browser.
The Webcam is FANTASTIC! I love it. Very high quality. It even has some fun features that come with it; faces, hats, drawing. It's cute. The microphone is also amazing. It will even pick up a very quiet whisper.
The graphics are beautiful, and the colors are very vivid. I am not a huge computer gamer, I just play Halo and Guild Wars and a lot of minigames on bored.com, but everything looks great while I play.
The speakers are good. I think the associate at Best Buy was right when he said that in order to use the Beats Audio to its full potential, you would have to get some external speakers or listen through headphones. But when I'm walking around the house, the speakers are good enough on their own.
USB plugs are on the side, not on the back. I like it when they are on the backside of the computer, because whatever you are plugging into the computer would be out of the way, but that's not possible with this computer because of the battery. It also only has 3 USB plugs.
The computer itself is also quite quiet. As I sit here now, even with multiple programs running and without the computer even being plugged in, it is very quiet just the faintest whisper of a fan.
And the battery life is long. Probably about 7 hours. I usually leave it unplugged on the kitchen table and it will last for about a week without it needing to be plugged in so long as I use the battery saving preference and close the lid when I'm done with it.
Before I decided to get this computer, I read the good and bad reviews from multiple sites. From my experience, it seems that people who wrote the bad reviews probably had a defective machine which is a risk with anything you buy, whether you're buying a laptop or xbox or a washing machine.
All in all, I love my computer. And this computer has turned me into a HP FanGirl. After this computer I got a HP External Harddrive, mouse, and my bf and I just bought a new HP Printer yesterday.Overall this is a great PC. It has performance, value, attractive, and reliable. I've bought 2 of them (one for me, one for my neice).
HP ENVY Pro 14" Ultrabook - B8U90UT
I recommend this laptop. The keyboard is really nice and the touchpad works great, the two finger scrolling is awesome. The brightness adjustment is really good too, most laptops and desktop computers have it set so the brightness level jumps way too much and you only wanted a slight change. This one does it less than an inch, so slight reducing of brightness is great. the design is practical as well. I appreciate that the cover is not plastic but has a metal design. And it doesn't heat up fast or get very hot. Also, keep in mind this ultrabook has 2 hd, a solid state and spinning drive :)I purchansed this laptop after much research and preffered to buy it from Amazon. However my experience is too bad with HP this time though I have always used an HP laptop. Here is the list of faults I found with the laptop and they are quite serious and annoying and won't let you work smoothly.
1) creepy system sound on every boot or windows resume
2) caps letter on without caps lock on after windows resume
3) shift key characters show up without shift key turned on after resuming windows
4) new window opens on browser on every single click after resuming windows
5) shortcut in my favorites get deleted and goes to recycle bin after resuming window
6) delete key does not work
7) while typing if press delete key it keeps on deleting all subsequent characters in the reverse direction
8) while rebooting or resuming window any folder or file click shows alert "want to delete"? Yes/ NO doesn't work -the alert windows keeps popping up
9) Windows photo viewer crashes

This laptop was not at all what I expected. Firstly I had to pay more than the advertised price of the laptop but I didnt mind considering it being an ultrabook. There is no backlit keyboard, no solid state drive and the mousepad has missing functionality, basically it is like any generic laptop in a sleek housing if I knew that I would have bought a sleekbook instead and would have paid much less for the same product. Lenovo IdeaPad B570
Why it is so fast.
Naturally, the CPU (processor) plays a big role. It's a downgraded version of Intel's latest iCore processors, carrying the graphics on the CPU chip, which makes for longer lasting machines (motherboard won't heat up as much and eventually die) and produces better graphics than the older generation systems that had imbedded graphics.
This machine can play "Need for Speed Shift" at low settings, whereas normal laptops with imbedded graphics, simply can't.
4 gigs of ram.
That's more than 99% of the general populus will ever use. Windows 7 can operate with 1 gig, works very well with 2 gigs and 3 or 4 gigs is more than one normally needs.
320 gig hard drive
is an average size these days but this one is unique in that it is much faster than the average 5400 rpm laptop hard drive. I can't say for sure if it is the actual model of hard drive that makes it faster, or if it is the quality of components on the motherboard, or maybe even some new technology.
One thing I do know for sure is that its benchmarks for sequential read and write speeds are in the upper 80's, which is close to the performance of most 7200 rpm drives.
Other.
The machine has 4 USB ports, one that doubles as an eSata port, has HDMI, and VGA out.
That's fairly standard these days but some lower priced laptops only have 3 USB ports.
It has a finger print reader which will be handy for some folks, has no bluetooth which could be handy but not a deal breaker for most and has a very good webcam for low lit conditions. It's not very high resolution and some folks might consider too low for them, but for me it's fine and the brightness is a huge plus.
In short, this is an average laptop with average build and average connections.
Where it excels is that it is VERY fast.
It's not that I need speed so much, it's that I can't stand slow machines that keep me waiting.
This machine does NOT keep me waiting and is quite astounding for its price range.I'll keep it concise: Lenovo's B570 is an excellent mid-size budget laptop. i bought one last week and, it's quite a step up (processing-wise) from my old lenovo s10e netbook. 2ghz and 4gb of ram go a long way for me, personally. i run ableton live 8, and it runs super smooth, even with Max4Live. this laptop is well designed, with plenty of ports (3 usb, 1 usb/esata, hdmi, vga, ethernet, standard audio in/out, media card reader) and is sturdily constructed, despite being constructed entirely of plastic. a truly great keyboard, and a good, medium/large trackpad w/ multitouch. only things keeping it from 5 stars is lack of bluetooth, slow hard drive (5400rpm), and "meh" battery life (4hrs or so). highly recommended purchase if you're on a budget. good for general purpose/business computing, internet (i've never had netflix run so smooth), and from my experience, running digital audio workstations (FLStudios, Ableton, Cubase, Reason, etc. should run beautifully).Ive had this bad boy for about 2 months now. Ive recommended it to friends and they all love it as much as I do. I think the price should actually be way more. The fingerprint swipe is neat. I was told that I would need such a powerfull laptop to mix and master my bands music on...this one does the job just fine. Meanwhile, I am still able to web browse, run programs like soulseek, mame and vuze with no problems or slowdown at all. Fantastic little buddy.Ditto to Bryan's review. I bought this out the door tax and all from Best Buy for $405. I don't think there is a better deal out there for a budget laptop. The features it has trump any I've seen that are $300 to $450. I've had this a month or so now and it is supperb for everyday use. I took a star off for the 0.3 megapixal webcam. It couldn't be much to include one a little better than that.
Acer Aspire V3-551G-8454 Gaming Notebook AMD A-Series A8-4500M(1.90GHz) Quad Core 15.6" 4GB Memory
Pros:
Awesome dedicated graphics card. I will update after trying some games
Windows 8 64 bit(Yes windows 8 as a pro...I'm not crazy...I find it much simpler and customizable than windows 7...hopefully gaming won't be a problem.
Sound is pretty nice
A little bloatware
Cons:
Fingerprints are so visible in this laptop
500 gb Hardrive( wish it was 750)
On one occasion, the laptop's backlight dimmed on and nonstop every second...I don't know why it happened...I restarted the laptop and I never encountered that problem again.I purchased this and its an awesome laptop. The price is a bit inflated. Check out Acers website and the msrp is $529.99.I also bought this laptop from newegg. It was $499 with free shipping, but add in 5% for discover cash back, and 1.5% cash back from Fatwallet.com, and it i managed to get it for around $470. It has na on-die AMD graphics, and a AMD dedicated graphics card, which you then crossfire in games that utilize it. 4 gigs of ram is not great, but can be expanded pretty cheap. CPU wise it can't touch the Intel sandy bridge, or ivy bridge CPUs but for under $500 this is a solid laptop that will play most games at mid resolutions.
Sony VAIO T Series SVT14126CXS 14-Inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Silver)
After reading reviews on the internet and comparing prices, I narrowed down my selection to this Sony, its 13' little brother and a Acer 14' ultrabook (a brand that usually gets you more bang for your buck). After comparing them in a store, the 14' Sony ended up the clear winner. The 13' Sony is fantastic, slim and very light but since I spend a lot of time on my laptop, I was concerned that the smaller screen would make my eyes bleed. The 14' feels much heavier but offers similar performance (its processor is actually a little bit faster, and it has a DVD player). The Acer turned out to be a huge disappointment, especially the touchscreen. There were streaks and strange shadows around my fingertips everywhere I touched it. I read complaints about it before; it turned out the be worse that expected.
You can probably find cheaper 14' laptops but this was the one with the best performance at this price point based on my extensive research. I usually prefer to spend a little bit more and have computers that don't get outdated after a year or two. If you carry your laptop with you everyday like I do, 14' is a nice compromise between the heavier 15.6' laptops and the smaller 13' ultrabooks. I have already done some heavy photo editing in Lightroom and some music production using Native Instruments software, and am very satisfied with the way the Sony Vaio handles these.
My only complaint would be about the screen resolution (a standard 1366X768). It's not bad but it isn't that great either; you can see the pixels. I am no Apple fan but the resolution on their macbooks blows this Sony out of the water (2560X1600 I believe). Important features like that make brands like Sony lose customers to Apple. This is a great product but why did Sony decide to cut corners? The resolution is basically the same as that of the Acer I purchased 6 years ago, and much lower than the resolution of my cheap 3 year old smart phone. Come on, Sony! Is that the best you can do for your ultrabook lineup?
Enough said. This is a very good deal for a slick ultrabook.5 Stars for the Amazon rep seeking the answers
1 Star if this is a proprietary model with the Sony Factory sub model specification indicating other features.
I am asking this now because I tried to buy this but note it says "500 GB" hard drive, not "500 GB + 24GB SSD" as specified for the "Sony VAIO T Series SVT14126CXS" on the Sony website. Apparently unless clarified by another department, the Amazon rep I just talked to said this only has the 500GB HD. That would make it a marginal value given pricing of this computer elsewhere.
If you bought this, please confirm the hard drive arrangement.
If this only has the HD, Amazon needs to change the model number or indicate it has a proprietary hardware setup.
In the meantime that $900 I almost spent this morning will likely be spent elsewhere.

The computer itself is halfway decent. But I've had a number of problems with over the years from a failed cooling unit as well as a bad motherboard. Also, the power cable is an absolute piece of garbage. I've had to replace mine three times in just a few months! If you value your money, look elsewhere for a computer. I'm never buying a Toshiba again.Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch Laptop (Platinum Silver)
The ssd drive really adds to the speed of this system. Even with bloated iTunes installed, it boots in less than 25 seconds and that includes me entering my password.
I would highly recommend this system. To be honest, I was expecting more from Sony this time. I owned Vaio for the last 3 years, and guided by good experience decided to go for Vaio again. This piece offers good spec for low price, and its performance is spot on!
Boots really fast, system works out of the box, everything configured. I also tried a couple of video games all works like a charm.
But, as someone else here mentioned, the CPU fan is too loud. Whenever CPU does some "heavy" work, fan starts its noise and sounds like jet engine. This actually happens quite often, when I am copying files, video chatting, installing something or playing games. It is sad that this laptop makes more noise than my desktop.
This is a huge disappointment.
However, bright side is laptops great performance. Excellent backlit keyboard (even better than the previous one, which was fantastic as well). Display is amazing.
I hope that I will get used to the noise of the fan, as well as my colleagues at work.
I am also wondering if it would make it better if I install Linux, which I will surely try in the next months.

overall it performs well and boots fast. looking from afar this proves to be a very attractive metallic like laptop. a closer look and feel would disappoint you a bit as the unit is made of plasticky material that looks like titanium but is not. Upgrading to 8gb is a breeze and removing extraneous bloatware is a tad of a pain as expected. Screen quality is typical VAIO, no complaint here. Available ports are adequate but not stellar. keyboard is much better than on the Ultrabook but not as nice as on the Macbook. A silver model (w/ a faster i5 than that of the previous SA23GX) is way more recommended than a black SA model but ... overall the plasticky build makes it less rugged for the road and susceptible to harsh handling.Read Best Reviews of Sony VAIO SA3 Series VPCSA33GX/SI 13.3-Inch Laptop (Platinum Silver) Here
The positives:If you're doing basic office stuff the notebook is blazing fast thanks to the SSD. I can't comment on gaming power. It will run a 1080p movie just fine with MPC and CCCP's basic setup.
High resolution screen.
I find it stylish enough and it's got pretty god build quality.
The included sheet battery is a nice touch.
The negatives:
The typical harddisk partitioning and bloatware stuff. I did a clean instal (which took surprisingly little time) to fix that up.
The screen doesn't have the best viewing angles.
Swapping between the Sandy Bridge graphics and the discrete card requires you to close all of your programs and flip a hardware switch.
Bottom line: I got this off Amazon for ~$950, that's a great deal on something this size with a 1600x900 screen and an SSD. I wasn't disappointed.

Pros:Thin, light and fast!!! Boot times are quick.
Even when clipped onto it's auxiliary battery pack, it still comes out thinner and lighter than most traditional laptops.
Cons:
Not quite instant-on.
Maximum SSD capacity is still far less than maximum IHD capacity in the equivalent model.
I just can't get used to that silly drag-down toolbar tracking the cursor around and getting in the way of window controls. Better put it somewhere innocuous.
It's sparking a bit of jealousy among the staff here.

I bought one at bestBuy. An glossy blue polished body wrapped an i3 processor, 4 GB memory and 500 GB 5400 rpm HDD.Construction:
The body feels sturdy and light weight. There is very tiny flex on the keyboard and palm rests. Overall construction looks very good. At this price, there is no room for grumbling on this count.
Connectivity:
It comes with two USB 3.0 ports. It also has the standard HDMI, USB 2.0 and SD card reader ports.
Audio/Video:
The display is gorgeous and the audio, while not spectacular, is very good and is loud enough without the headphones. The web camera is also good for video chats.
Keyboard/Touchpad.
The touchpad is smooth and the sensitivity can be configured through the Windows Mobility center. The touchpad buttons though are really hard and clicking on the outer edges of these buttons will give you sore fingers. You have to press them around the middle or inner edge to be kinder to your fingers. The keyboard is good though I felt it could have been a touch softer to type.
Wi-Fi:
The wifi is pretty good and I did not have any issues using it.
Battery:
Battery life is about 3 hours on a charge with medium level of processing.
Performance:
The 2nd Gen Intel® Core(tm) i3-2350M processor provides higher performance than my previous laptop with i5-520M and it runs really cool.
Conclusion:
This laptop is sturdy and arrayed with the latest ports. I'd highly recommend it to everyone.

Im older so don't know and cant judge the bells and whistles of the product but it works well for me and its attractive looking. The only issue I had with it is that it came with lots of games on it (not my thing) and a 30 day free trial of McCaffey but I bought Norton already and so had to pay someone to get that stuff off my computer (told you Im a real basic user). Sometimes I have gliches and manage to muddle through and I don't understand how to find cookies and get rid of them. Then scan disk and defrag are difficult to find so any problems I had were not with the machine but the way the software was set up. The computer itself is great and now I don't have to drive my powerchair to the library to use a computer so I am very grateful its working well. I was concerned because it was a big buy for my budget.HP ProBook 6470b C6Z41UT 14.0 LED Notebook Intel Core i5-3210M 2.5GHz 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD DVD+/-RW I

The case allows for a nice cooling touch when resting my hand after a break.
It doesn't have a SSD but I swapped one in since i have spare. nice performance.
RAM is easily accessible for upgrade and goes up to 16 GB. Heat seems not to be issue.
Sound is surprising clear. The other HP laptop usually need me to tilt the laptop to allow the sound to be audible at low volume. not so for this model.
I'm a minimalist, though not extreme and this is great for me.
Lenovo U410 14.0-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Grey)
In the review that follows there will be several mentions of Lenovo's S405. This is because I purchased the S405 first from Amazon for $540. (Less than a month later, it's already down to $480!) But I determined that the S405, attractive as it was, didn't meet my performance expectations. So, I returned that model and got the U410 (version 59351632) from Newegg for $630.
APPEARANCE: At a maximum width of .83" and 4.1 lbs., the U410 is neither the thinnest nor lightest ultrabook on the market. However, laptops offering similar performance at this price point weigh an average of 6 lbs., so put aside the notion that the U410 is somehow an unwieldy beast. It's no MacBook Air, but it isn't HEAVY. (It's also not $1200+.) It does kind of look like a MacBook, though. (Not that the MacBooks have a monopoly on silver chassis with black chiclet keyboards.) The aluminum cover of my U410 is charcoal gray; interior is matte silver. I *loved* the all black interior of the S405, but this design has grown on me. The U410 looks and feels expensive, beautiful in its simplicity. Whereas the S405 was .8" at its thickest point, then became even narrower at the front, the U410 is a uniform thickness on all sides, but the sides are also slightly concave giving it a touch of style. If you purchase the U410 on Lenovo's website you'll have red and blue designs as options (the red looks particularly spiffy) but you'll also pay at least a hundred dollars more than you would at Newegg.
The U410 sheds some of its cost and weight by the exclusion of an optical drive. I used an external DVD burner to make a recovery disc, but Lenovo includes a program called "OneKey Recovery" that backs up your system to a safe partition of your hard disk. I also appreciate how cool and quiet the U410 runs during casual use. Predictably, games cause the fan inside to work harder and the device gets hot on the underside near the ventilation.
Insert: Another review on this site complained of the fan's noise level. Perhaps this person received a defective unit. My U410 runs quiet except when I push the hardware, then the noise increases. But even then, it's not so loud I'm disturbed by it.
KEYBOARD: Lenovo bought IBM's Thinkpad brand back in 2005; Thinkpads being notable for their outstanding keyboards well suited to the business-oriented user. Before I committed to purchasing a Lenovo, I read a bit about how the keyboards in the Ideapad line had finally, or nearly, caught up to the Thinkpads. The keyboard on the U410 is good, but far from great. The keys are sized nicely (except for the Backspace, right Shift, and Enter which are undersized to make room for the Home, End, and Page keys) and are supposedly contoured so your fingers don't slide off, resulting in typing errors. (Lenovo calls this "Accutype.")
What disappoints is the "flex" beneath the keyboard. If you've researched the U410 online, you may have seen the video of the guy pushing his finger into the middle of the keyboard. Now, nobody will be doing this to their brand new ultrabook, but the video demonstrates a lapse in quality. While the U410 looks and feels sturdy overall, the keyboard comes off cheap. You may not notice the flex as you type--since your eyes are glued to the screen--but glance down and you'll see your fingers bounce up and down on the springy underside.
The keyboard on the S405 is much studier with a satisfying, velvety press, but I noticed I tended to make more mistakes using that machine. I decided to take a typing test online to see on which ultrabook I typed the best. On the U410, with no mistakes, I averaged 89 wpm. On the S405, I averaged 81. (On my older Compaq Presario I scored a 92.) So even though the flex in the U410 is distracting, it's actually the swifter keyboard. At least, on this particular day with this particular typing test this proved to be the case.
There's no backlight, but that would inflate the price and it's a luxury feature I personally don't need nor want.
WIFI: The Lenovo U410 is notorious for its sketchy WIFI adapter. The company's official stance is U410s manufactured after July 2012 no longer have issues, but users maintain that problems, such as slow speeds and dropped connections, persist. I was nervous my U410 would suffer these problems, but after running a series of informal tests I have not found any cause for alarm.
My U410 was manufactured September 29, 2012 and the WIFI adapter is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2200. I updated my driver to the latest version (15.5.0.42) immediately and set Transmit Power to 5, Roaming Aggressiveness to 3. Then, I placed my U410 alongside the S405, my HP desktop, iPhone, and an older Compaq Presario laptop about twelve feet from the router, which was on the other side of a wall. I went to speedtest.net and ran the test on each machine six times and averaged the speeds. These are the results... U410: 28.96 down/7.42 up, S405: 29.86/7.40, desktop: 28.98/7.70, iPhone: 25.27/10.13, Compaq: 29.64/7.71.
Although it appears the U410 performed the worst (excluding the iPhone) the difference is negligible, and the numbers were actually improving as the test went on. Users had said the pre-fixed WIFI was delivering speeds 75% slower than their other machines, which in my case would be around 8mbps. Clearly, at nearly 29mbps, my U410 is no worse than my other devices--a huge relief.
However, some disclaimers: I have no idea if every U410 manufactured after July is equal to mine. I also don't know how well the machine would fair in a crowded wireless environment, like a coffee shop or airport. Lastly, I have a less expensive Internet plan through Cox. It's possible if I had the fastest plan the U410's wireless adapter would throttle that connection... but I have no reason to expect it would.
Also be aware some SKUs of the U410 model (there are about a dozen) include Bluetooth. This one does NOT. If you absolutely must have integrated Bluetooth, you should purchase your U410 from Lenovo.com.
PERFORMANCE: With an i5-3317U processor, 6GB of RAM, dedicated GeForce 610M graphics card, and a Solid State hybrid drive the U410 is one of the most powerful ultrabooks on the market at this price point. I don't think you're going to find anything more powerful, and slimmer/lighter, without paying over a grand. The dedicated graphics in particular, while being at the low end of the GeForce 600 series, gives the U410 that extra boost it needs to run more demanding games. I wanted an ultrabook that could run Guild Wars 2, and the U410 succeeds at this task.
These are the results of the Windows Experience Index (For comparison's sake, the Lenovo S405's results are in parenthesis.) Processor 6.9 (6.2) Memory 7.4 (5.9) Graphics 5.5 (4.4) Gaming Graphics 6.3 (6.2) Hard Disk 6.9 (5.9) Overall 5.5 (4.4). One thing about the Windows Experience Index: the gaming graphics are based on the primary adapter, the Intel HD 4000, so this test doesn't account for the GeForce 610M. So, I think these scores are lower than they should be.
I also ran Passmark's benchmarking software and the U410 scored a 1412.8 versus the S405's 1018.4. With power settings set to High Performance, CPU-Z recorded the i5-3317U's core speed as 2396 MHz (thanks to Intel's TurboBoost) versus the S405's A8-4555M processor at 1816 MHz.
Of course, higher numbers in these benchmarking utilities don't tell the full story, so I ran tests in Guild Wars 2. I set the resolution to max (1366x768), all graphics to Low (except for "render sampling" which I set to Native) and ran FRAPS for two minutes to find an average FPS. (Note: I didn't run this test in a heavily congested area. I was just killing moa birds in Frostgorge Sound.) My FPS at this setting was 58. Very solid, especially considering the S405 was half as speedy at 26. With all settings on Medium, the FPS was 30. A custom blend of Low, Medium, and High settings (ignoring water, shadow and particle effects and focusing on environment/character textures) scored 41 FPS. At maximum graphics, the FPS was 15 and pretty much unplayable. For a non-gaming machine, an ultrabook no less, the U410 handles Guild Wars 2 really well and still looks great with the graphics turned down.
Insert: One reviewer mentions that the SSD doesn't have the O.S. installed on it. To clarify, this is because the drive is a hybrid. It stores your most frequently accessed data as you use the machine, increasing your read speed over time. You could install the entire O.S. on the SSD if you wanted to. There's nothing stopping you. But since the computer boots in about twelve seconds and is pretty fast in all respects, I don't see why you'd bother.
DISPLAY: The screen is the U410's other weak link. (The keyboard being the other.) A resolution of 1366x768 is standard for ultrabooks and laptops at this price, so I can't really fault Lenovo for not exceeding the standard. But, my Dell 6000 had a 1680x1050 display and that was six years old. Why hasn't the industry pushed for better resolutions? Why are laptops lagging behind tablets? (Google's new Nexus 10 is 2560x1600!) For whatever reason, you cannot find affordable ultrabooks with nice resolutions. Search on Newegg and you'll see that even if you went to the next highest tier, 1600x900, you're either paying a lot or getting a 17" monster. Lastly, as with most ultrabooks, the screen is glossy. (Not a concern for me, but it might be for some.)
I'm incredibly satisfied with the U410. It's a very strong performer in a light(ish) frame at a decent price. I'm relieved the WIFI problem was solved. I only wish the keyboard didn't feel so cheap. (Although it's by no means horrible.) I would recommend the U410 to anyone who wants a machine capable of playing some high end games, but still values mobility. Meanwhile, anyone looking for a work/casual device with no need of a fast processor and discrete graphics may find value in the U410's cheaper, but lovelier, cousin: the S405.
PROS: Performance-to-Price ratio virtually unmatched in the ultrabook category. Hybrid HDD-SSD. Very attractive design. USB 3.0 (x2) and HDMI ports. Loud speakers. Webcam captures 720p HD.
CONS: Keyboard flexes. Sufficient, but unremarkable display. Battery not removable. Heavier than most ultrabooks. No Bluetooth on this particular SKU. Alternative colors limited to official site.Lenovo usually makes great products but they really fell short on the U410. The U410's are shipped with a faulty wifi card which makes this laptop an utter disappointment. Do a Google search for U410 wifi issue and you will get pages of problems with this laptop and according to Lenovo, any U410 ,manufactured after 7/30 is fixed but the manufacture date on the bottom of mine is 9/29/12.
At first, the U410 would drop the Wifi signal making it impossible to surf. I then updated to the latest Centrino wifi drivers on Intel's website which helped keep a connection but the download speed on speedtest was less than 1mb! My Lenovo X220 next to the U410 pulled down 35mb.
A nice laptop if you have no plans to use the internet but if you are, look somewhere else

The wireless connection on this laptop is horrible. There are pages of posts online about customers complaining about the weak wireless connection. The computer will connect, but the signal fluctuates to the point where I was not even able to watch netflix. Lenovo claims to have fixed the problem after a specified manufacture date, but they have NOT! This laptop was manufactured after their stated fix but the problem still persists (this has been reported by many consumers). I would strongly discourage people from purchasing this laptop if they plan to use it on a WiFi network.Note: Driver updates and other software/firmware fixes do NOT work.

I could not believe how noise is the fan of this computer. It seems like I am beside an engine. After 5 minutes I turned the computer off. The vendor that sold me the computer through Amazon is asking for a 15% return fee. As I don't want to pay that fee, I tried to use the computer, but every time I turn it on I get so disturbed with the noise that I cannot use it. The noise is definitely unbearable. I do not recommend this computer.Want Lenovo U410 14.0-Inch Ultrabook (Graphite Grey) Discount?
Fast, lightweight, good design, but you have to treat it kindly because it feels fragile. But it's a great value for the price. And don't be afraid with Windows 8. Once you learned to use it, it's very easy.HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100 - Pentium M 1 GHz ULV - RAM 512 MB - HDD 40 GB - GF4 420 Go - WLAN : 802
You can write on the outside of the cover when it is closed. You use a stylus pen which pops out of its own little compartment when you gently press down on it. You can detach the keyboard completely if you don't want to use it. There are so many different features that it is just amazing. Sometimes when I take it to class, I will go to the "One Note" program and click "record" and let it record the teacher speaking. I can even write notes on it. Both the voice and the written notes are typed right into a Word document for me.
If you can still find one of these, I would definitely recommend buying it because it is so worth the money. I only paid $220.00 on amazon.com which was a steal deal.
