Acer TimelineU M5-481T-6642 14-Inch Ultrabook (Gun Metal Gray)

Acer TimelineU M5-481T-6642 14-Inch UltrabookPros.

Sleek, pretty, and thin.

4lbs, very light compared to older laptops but kinda heavy when in my backpack, I'm looking for a new backpack designed for laptops now.

Runs COOL. I've used the laptop in bed, on top of my blanket, and it did not get hot and fans did not kick in at all.

Make sure you calibrate the battery when you first get it,

(Drain out the battery until it turns off, charge it while its off until the blue light comes on telling you its full, and charge it an extra 10 mins after that.)

Battery life is awesome, I just charged it, shows I have 8 hours and 47 minutes left.

The laptop was exactly what I needed, also best bang for your book laptop.

Cons.

Track-pad is weird, I have to click a little left from the middle for my left click, the left corner will not register but the right corner will register for right click.

Back-lit keys bleed a lot, unlike my old dell XPS 16.

Not so easy plugging in the power in the back, you have to use some force and I'm afraid to bend the pin.

So far, this laptop is everything I'd hoped.

Pros:

Great battery life

Very cool on bottom of unit. Not uncomfortable at all like some other/previous laptops I've used.

Backlit keyboards.

LOUD speakers.

Good display brightness.

I have changed out the ram and hard drive with an 8GB ram chip and a 256GB crucial M4 SSD. Now it's up to 10GB of ram (2GB must already be on the motherboard). The SSD is just stupid fast...restarts are around 20 sec. total. Definitely a necessary upgrade (speed and no HDD clicking noises). Taking it apart was quite a task. There are some ribbon cables that need to be paid extra attention to when taking it apart. I recommend a very competent computer/IT person doing it.

Finish is very simple and elegant. Computer will be easy to clean and doesn't show fingerprints very much.

The only thing I wish is that they made this model (Ultra M5) in a 13.3" model with no DVD player. If you want the best battery life, go with this version over the one with the discrete graphics card.

I did a lot of research in making the decision to purchase this Acer Timeline U, and I have no regrets. I was looking for: 1) affordability, 2) weight, 3) battery life, 4) processor and 5) sleek design. This laptop met all these aspects. I love my first laptop and carry it around the house. (LOL). I did exactly as others suggested and Acer's manual and that is to charge up the laptop and drain the battery all the way down for 3 times to get the maximum battery life. The advertisement is 8 hours, but I've gotten between 6.5-7.0 hours. Not bad, and I'm happy for that. Once I get over the excitement of having a laptop, I will use it for watching movies on long airplane flights and editing photos on the road. It has a lot of memory. My only complaint is the mouse pad which I'm sure is user error. I am still getting accustomed to a tracking pad, as I've always used a mouse. The tracking pad is sensitive, so I bought a wireless mouse (Logitech Wireless Mouse M305 (Floral Spiral) (910-002465)) that works great right out of the box. I traveled with the laptop last week and it performed perfectly. So, I give the Acer 5 stars.

I want to express that I'm not a computer expert just a casual user looking for a sturdy, good performing laptop that's portable. The TimelineU gave me everything I wanted and I'm so happy I bought it. There are a few small things that could have been different or better.

Appearance: When I ordered this, the laptop turned out to be brushed nickle, not black as advertised, but I actually don't mind it. The color, or perhaps the material, does get dirty easily. I enjoy the chiclet keys, and the screen is very bright. The touchpad takes some getting used to and is sometimes overly sensitive. The left-right 'mouse' buttons are hard to find and you have to hit just the right spot for it to register otherwise you might just be hitting the touchpad. Also be aware there is no side scroll on the touchpad to go up and down on a page, you have to use the up-down arrows. I think I might go back to using an external mouse. I thought I wouldn't like the USB and charge ports in the back, but it's better than taking space up on the sides I have a small desk where I need every inch of side space. The 14in screen is excellent not too big, not too small, and the weight is comparable to a Mac Pro.

Performance: Compared to my old laptop (I hadn't bought one in four years), this laptop is faster by far. It only takes eight seconds to start up and five to shut down. I'm glad I chose the stronger core ( Intel Gen 3 i5) over the extended RAM that others have RAM can always be upgraded later if I need it. I haven't tried any PC games on it yet, but I didn't by this laptop for gaming just casual web surfing and writing. When unplugged, the laptop will automatically dim to low, but that function can be manually switched off. As for the battery power, if it's unplugged and you're just surfing the web, the battery life is more like 4hrs, not 8. This is still better than older, heavier laptops, but don't be fooled by the advertisement.

Overall, the TimelineU M5-481T-6642 is extremely efficient, portable and aesthetically pleasing for the everyday user. If you don't mind cleaning it often and can get used to the touchpad (using a traditional mouse if a fine alternative), I highly recommend this laptop.

Had it for almost a week now and I'm loving it. Everything that professional reviews have said I've found true. Great battery life, awesome graphics (for a non-gamer), sound quality great. I feel like I got the quality of a Mac in a PC and at a PC price. It has also been traveling great. Substantial frame for an ultra book!

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who's looking for a smaller lighter lower priced PC.

ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ-DH71 2.10-3.10GHz i7-3612QM 12GB 256GB SSD nVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 15.6" FullHD

ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ-DH71 2.10-3.10GHz i7-3612QM 12GB 256GB SSD nVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 15.6' FullHD Blu-Ray Windows 8Granted, I have only owned one other laptop, but that is not to say that I have not used many other ones. I am quite a tech-guru and take pride in my chosen devices. I searched for a very long time to find a laptop this thin, with this many features and I can firmly say that this is the best you're going to find. Closest thing to it would be the MBPr 2.3 GHz for $2200... So quite a bit more expensive, then again you're paying for the operating system.

Anyways, on to my review...

First off, this thing is fast. Very, very fast. The full-voltage core i7, GeForce GT 650m, and 8 GB of RAM make this laptop great for anything you throw at it, be it gaming, video editing, Photoshop, or just browsing the web. I have come from a gaming laptop, (Toshiba Qosmio x505-Q896) fully assuming I was going to be downgrading a bit in performance. I WAS WRONG. This thing is faster than my gaming machine. In every way it is better. More efficient, lighter, faster, and COOLER. (temperature wise, and just because it's badass)

The battery life, when compared to my gaming rig, is awesome! So for me this is great on battery life; I am aware that this machine is about average to low-end in it's category though. Runs for about 5 to 6 (if you're lucky) hours depending on what you're doing and what setting your brightness is on. Keep in mind, this machine packs a punch in a small package, so I think this is very reasonable. Should be plenty for most people.

Almost forgot, this laptop is BEAUTIFUL. It has great build quality and feels very sturdy in hand, considering it has an all metal body. The screen looks amazing. It has an auto-brightness feature that can be turned off by pressing fn + A which is kind of annoying for me, but helps battery life. But other than that it looks great!

This laptop also has the best sound out of any laptop I've heard so far. It has Bang & Olufsen speakers with an external subwoofer which for me, is essential. It also comes with Waves MAXXAudio which makes it sound even better.

Now to my gripes about the machine. Keep in mind these are mostly minor annoyances, not deal breakers. This laptop still deserves five-stars all the way.

1. I love Windows 8 and I love the natural scrolling that is supposed to come with Windows 8. (inverted scrolling) but Asus has taken this away from me and I am desperately wanting my inverted two finger scrolling back. I don't believe they use a Synaptics touchpad so I don't believe it would do any good to install the Synaptics driver that has this, so I'm just awaiting a software update to their Smart Gesure Suite that adds this feature.

2. My model came with an outdated, or just faulty wifi card driver that caused my laptop to disconnect from wifi and not reconnect until reboot after a while of use. This was fixed with a simple driver update from the intel wireless cards site, so I didn't have to send it in or anything.

3. REVIEWERS. Many reviews of this laptop have stated that the fan is too loud and complained about it constantly running. This laptop has a full-voltage quad-core i7 and a beefy graphics card in a very small chassis. Both of these things in a small space = HOT. The fan needs to be running to cool it down. Reviewers have also complained about the price. Yes, it is quite expensive. But it's more than you're getting from any other company and I've seen laptops with lower specs with around the same price. I'd say the price is about right.

Synopsis: Best laptop I've ever used. I love it. If you've got the cash, buy it. It won't disappoint. Works for gaming and any other application.

I nearly went crazy researching what new laptop to buy to replace my aging one. I would see a highly-rated laptop and be almost convinced to buy it, only to read users' experiences and find out they had major problems with it.

Finally, I settled on this ASUS Zenbook, and I'm extremely happy. The machine is fast, sleek, and lightweight, and I haven't had any problems with connectivity that other users reported with other ASUS machines. (I was also impressed with this vendor's offer to immediately assist with any problems but I haven't had any.)

I especially like that this laptop has a 15.6" screen and is wide enough for a numerical pad on the right. I use this laptop primarily for work, and both of those elements are major pluses. Staring at a smaller screen for 8-12 hours can get really tiring.

The only time I noticed any fan noise was one time in a very quiet room in my house; I really don't notice it 99% of the time. The laptop also doesn't seem to get hot at all.

The screen is BEAUTIFUL, and it's matte, so you get reduced glare (or none) when working in an office. I had never considered watching a movie on my laptop before, but this machine really makes me want to try it.

The laptop comes with Windows 8, which turns out to be not such a big deal. It was pretty easy to figure out (compared to when Microsoft moved to the ribbon in Office 2007, which was a nightmare), and really hasn't given me any problems. I'm fine with it, even though I don't use any of the swipe features. As a nice added feature, ASUS provides a little training feature app to show the user how to do certain things. Very thoughtful.

While this is an expensive machine, it gives me everything I need in a laptop in a sleek, fast package. I am so thrilled to have a fast start-up and close-down I'm doing a happy dance!

One note: this machine has two drives of 128 GB each, so the C drive is 128 GB, where you will need to put all your applications. While this is one of the largest SSDs available (within reasonable $$), it fills up remarkably fast, so plan accordingly.

I've never had an ASUS before, but it probably won't be my last. Nice, nice laptop.

So far the best laptop I've ever owned. Which it should be given the price.

Chews through all the PC Games I've thrown at it so far. Which is a tribute to both the Core i7 & the 2GB Nvidia 650m.

My only complaint I screwed up on the order & got the separate 2 128GB SSDs. Don't make this mistake... get the single 256 or 512 if your wallet permits.

I have had only 1 laptop in the past a Dell that I have had since 2006. Needless to say it was time for a major upgrade. Being in college a fast computer, and multi tasking was difficult to do with my old laptop and my new ASUS has kept up with all my demands thus far. I bought this computer as a recommendation from a friend who got the 13in zenbook a year ago. I love the 2 sec start up and so far the battery life is as expected (can get a full charge from 10% in about an hour). I am still getting used to windows 8 but any complaints about that are not by fault of ASUS. I have always idolized the look of Apple's Macbook Pro, and this computer has that professional yet simple look. The only thing I can complain about thus far is a trackpad that is a little over sensitive. Because of the beefed up specs and 15 in screen, the laptop is a bit larger than other ultrabooks but to me it is still worth the money. In reviews I had read prior to buying this laptop, some people complained about the fan being too loud. I don't think this is a problem at all, there are plenty of other noises around the house that distract me rather than the noise of the fan... Overall, this is a great computer that I would recommend to anyone searching for an upgrade if you are like me, get ready to experiance and experiment with windows 8

I like this machine. It is going to replace my older gaming desktop (even though I didn't buy it for that purpose). It performs just as well as my old gaming desktop and is portable. The 2GB video card is great and the battery life is good when you are not gaming.

There are some wifi issues that arise but this is mostly due to the power management system. There are multiple websites out there that can show you how to fix this. It works perfectly once I adjusted the settings and I haven't been dropped since. I play Hawken (online fps in mechs) on this machine and it runs great! It also handles all the apps I need (word/excel/photoshop/etc.) with no problems.

I recommend this ultrabook with no reservations.

Not so sure about Windows 8, jury is still out if the "upgrade" to Windows 8 is worth it.

Over all the laptop is easy to use for day to day computing, surfing the web, looking at pictures etc.

The touch pad does take some getting used to.

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition 17.3" Laptop - 2nd generation Intel Quad Core i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz) / 1

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition 17.3' Laptop - 2nd generation Intel Quad Core i7-2670QM / 1GB GDDR5 Radeon Graphics / 8GB DDR3 System Memory / 750GB 5400RPM Hard Drive / Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner / Beats Audio / 2 USB 3.0 / dark umberThere is a lot of marketing hype around laptop and tablet features these days -but, here's the real deal! When I tested the HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition at a local big box store I was hooked from day one. Then I received it as a gift at the Amazon price and was still amazed at how much of a powerful and fast laptop this is for my business and entertainment needs. My goal was to have an affordable Windows laptop PC that was as useful, powerful and durable as a desktop. The HP dv7t knocked it totally out of the park on ALL the specs I checked and compared with other Windows and Apple laptop computers -and I still kept coming back to this model for its features. The Beats Audio system is even more of a knockout whether played through this laptop's front, back AND sub-woofer bottom-side speakers. This really mattered to me since I listen to a lot of CD and Internet radio Jazz, Hip-Hop and Classical music to clear my head during or after work. The video and sound is even more impressive when I hooked-it-up to the big screen TV from the the dv7t's HDMI connection. The large 17-inch adjustable screen is absolutely no strain on my eyes during long work periods, or viewing DVD and online movies on it. This tough 6-pounder that I sometimes carry from home is no more of a problem than carrying one textbook. Besides, I worry about how fragile many of the "thin is in" portable PCs being sold lately. I'm more secure with HP's light-weight metal and plastic construction of the dv7t for the long run. Because I am totally happy and very impressed with this laptop, I could say more about its other virtues. But, if you DO YOUR OWN checking and comparing of the line-by-line specs, you'll most likely do the right thing -at a good price. Moreover, I don't like having to spend (or overspend) money every 2 or 3 years for a new PC. This well-built HP dv7t is a genuine keeper for at least the next 5-plus years of my work and fun. As the classic Hip-Hop song says, "Don't believe the hype!" other PC makers are slinging about why you should spend your dollars on their PCs or tablets. With its WiFi, high-resolution screen, very fast 8GB RAM (be sure to get the Intel i7 chip), studio-quality sound, sharp screen camera, fingerprint security, internal help features, plus multiple USB-HDMI-SD-VGA and audio inputs -I now have my high-speed Internet, big hard drive, work tool, cable TV, bass-boosting stereo music, online telephone, and HD movie system in one box. HEAVEN!!! This HP workhorse affordably delivers the real deal 24/7 for work and play.

I am not happy with 2 things.

1. There was a rattling noise coming from the DVD Rom when you switch on the machine. I think it is unusual for a brand new Lap top. Is it only with my machine? Any advise?

2. The black color key board and faint-white letters are quite difficult for eyes in the night. No back-light. Is that how this machine comes ?

HP Folio 13-2000 13-Inch LED Ultrabook - Core i5 i5-2467M 4G RAM 128G SSD Windows 7 Professional

HP Folio 13-2000 13-Inch LED Ultrabook - Core i5 i5-2467M 4G RAM 128G SSD Windows 7 ProfessionalOnce in a blue moon I come across a laptop that fascinates me. The HP Folio 13-2000 is surely one of the more impressive models available on the market. HP has packaged powerful components into a very elegant yet sophisticated system.

At the time of this writing, Intel had recently announced that they would be beginning their "Ultrabook" laptop initiative to place systems on the market that would compete with Apple's thinner Macbook Air series. As a disclaimer, my years of experience with computer systems have been spent in a Windows environment, so this review will focus strictly on the HP Folio rather act as a side-by-side comparison with Apple's Macbook Air products.

In the original box and packaging, the Folio is held in place by two pieces of foam on each side, with space between the Folio and the cardboard box, which I suppose is a good thing in the event it were to come into contact with some blunt force. Aside from the Folio itself, a power adapter and packet of papers are included in the box.

Upon physical inspection, the Folio is very solid to the touch. Unlike my previous Asus netbook, the laptop casing is not flimsy at all and very resistant to bending. As shown on the Specifications page for the Folio on HP's website, the Ultrabook measures 8.67 inches in width, 12.54 inches in length, and 0.7 inches in depth. Needless to say, the Folio is extremely thin. On top of that, its weight at 3.3 pounds is noteworthy. The left side has the RJ-45 (Ethernet), HDMI, USB 3.0, and SD memory card ports; while the right has a USB 2.0 port and headphone jack. Interestingly the Folio lacks a Kensington Security Slot; whatever the reason for its absence, I will assume that owners of this superb computer system will rarely leave it out of sight for any period from would-be thieves.

The top of the Folio has a very nice metallic silver finish with the HP logo embedded in the center, and the bottom contains the usual assortment of exhaust ports and stickers.

Starting up the Folio for the first time would be when things got very interesting. The startup process itself, from BIOS to the Windows loading screen, was very fast, which should not be too big of a surprise since HP as put a Samsung SSD inside. Even though I managed to finish the Windows setup without any issues, the HP registration program that followed was a complete disaster. As I tried to enter my information into the contact information fields in the registration program, the HP program suddenly froze, leaving me no choice but to abort it and register the traditional method (via HP website). Compared to my past experiences with HP computers, there is significantly less bloatware and other programs installed, but they still remain nonetheless. Certain things about HP's software was particularly annoying, notably HP including an entire program solely dedicated to opening PDF files (e.g. User manual) was totally unnecessary. For an Ultrabook that's supposedly designed for powering through the "workday," the extra software can really drag you down.

On another note, Windows 7 Professional is absolutely necessary for those needing to join Domains in business environments. With a 64-bit operating system installed, the Folio has 4GB of DDR3 SRAM; HP states on the website for the Folio that the RAM has been downgraded from 1600 MHz to 1333 MHz. The 13.3-inch LED display is marvelous to look at, without any significant strain on my eyes; changing the display settings will be necessary, as is necessary for any new computer out of its box. I was initially skeptical about purchasing this particular model due to its 128 GB SSD, but with all of the latest updates and drivers installed, there is still a significant amount of space remaining approximately 100 GB. Returning to my point about HP's disappointing software, the Folio is configured at factory automatically for a recovery partition that is used by HP Recovery Manager. I should also point out that Recovery Manager is essentially useless for most users who have at least some experience with both Windows 7 and setting up backups. For inexperienced users, I would recommend leaving Recovery Manager installed in the event that you might need to return the system to its original factory configuration. I personally recommend installing CCleaner by Piriform after the initial setup of the computer so unnecessary files are removed automatically.

Regarding performance of the Folio, I would not recommend purchasing this system if you plan on doing any serious gaming on it. Again, I want to emphasize that this is a more business-oriented computer system, rather than one that targets mainstream consumers. While this particular Ultrabook only uses the quad-core 2nd generation Intel Corei5 processor, there will be more than enough power to get through whatever you need to in a day at the office. Unless you are running the system with display brightness set to maximum and CPU usage at 100% across the board, the Folio will fetch you several hours on battery power alone. HP estimates approximately 9 hours, but I have yet to test this out.

I will designate this last segment to what I think is the most interesting piece of hardware HP included in this ultrabook. For those who are somewhat familiar with computer security, a TPM 1.2 security chip is pre-installed on the motherboard at the factory. To minimize technical jargon and complexity, the TPM chip essentially a security chip that prevents tampering with the computer system. Its true potential is unlocked when it is paired with Windows BitLocker (available only in Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise). With BitLocker enabled, the TPM chip ensures that no hardware settings were altered between the last shutdown and next powerup. Note that BitLocker supports full-disk encryption, for those who need it.

While this is undoubtedly a superb system, a four-star rating is warranted since the shoddy HP software simply will not warrant a five-star review. However, for would-be buyers, HP's failure in producing functional software should not overshadow the many other great features offered by this ultrabook.

This is by far the best laptop that I have bought to-date. It is light, sleek, functional, super portable, and the battery last longer than any battery on any device I have ever had. It goes for at least 8 hours without needing to be plugged in. If you are looking for a ultrabook because of the poratablity but do not want to compromise on performance, style, or functionaly then look no further.

This computer is exactly what I was looking for in a traveling computer. It's screen and keyboard are the right size and is pretty fast. I looked at other computers and at the Ipad, but this one fits my needs much better. Now when I travel, I leave my larger laptop at home and take this one instead. The battery life is also amazing, and this computer only weighs 3.3#! Hard drive is small so I bought a couple 32 GB SD cards to store files on.

This is HP Folio 13 the best Ultrabook, compared to all other brands of Ultrabook. Why is this is so good and why it's getting so many glowing reviews, an average of 4.8 stars out of 5 stars? This is why:

1. Windows 7 Professional. It's not Windows 7 Home or Windows 8 (which is horrible to run software or do usual business tasks). I was actually thinking of getting a MacBook Air but need to install Windows 7 Pro and Parallels into a Macbook Air that would set me $360.00 back.

2. It is superfast, boots up and shuts down super quick just like your smart phone (iPhone, Andriod or Blackberry). I hate laptops that that forever to boot up or shut down. Finally an Ultrabook that boots up like a Smartphone or iPad.

3. It has SSD instead of HD. I hate hard drives because it is noisy and breaks down. SSD is the way to go. Macbook Airs are all SSD.

4. Superlight. I hate heavy and bulky laptops.

5. Superlong lasting battery. The battery goes for 7++ hours!

6. Responsive mousepad and keypad. No need for external mouse. Some ultrabooks like Samsung and Acer has this problem.

7. Great Price. For $699.00 for a brand new Ultrabook, that is a $400.00 lower than a comparable MacBook Air 13 inch ($1,099.00).

8. This is an excellent Business Class laptop and even my old software such as Microsoft Office XP, works like a charm, no issues.

9. Wifi connection is easy and no problems. Some Samsung and Acer Ultrabooks has this problems.

10. Webcam works and sound is decent for a laptop this size.

11. Printing and scanning from this Ultrabook is easy.

12. Connecting to the network is a breeze.

13. Connecting to DVD drive/burner is is breeze, no issues.

14. It doesn't get hot or warm.

15. It is very thin and elegant, comparable to a 13 inch Macbook Air. Very stylish!

16. It has an internet Ethernet port (which the macbook air doesn't have). This is useful if you need to connect to the internet with a hardwire instead of wifi.

I have looked into HP Windows 8 Ultrabooks but HP Windows 8 Ultrabooks ones are crappy and I would have to downgrade from Windows 8 to 7 to meet my business benchmarks. That's too much trouble!

If you are looking for a Ultrabook that has SSD instead of a noisy harddrive, get this Ultrabook, there's no better one out there. HP is no longer making this Ultrabook, this is a pity. So get this before you can no longer buy this. I am thinking of getting an extra one as a backup.

HP Engineering provides a wonderful design with a nice layout, good screen resolution, excellent wireless and enough ports (USB2, USB3, HDMI, etc.,) to provide great flexibility to connect to almost any device.

The problem that we encountered was the additional HP installed software provided for customer support seems to have conflicts with the Windows 7 operating system. The result is a repeated blue screen and a system dump. The problem only worsened when we had to engage HP customer support (located in the Philippines). The agents were friendly but unlike Dell they did not really understand the configuration of the PC (e.g. Dell service tag) and as of this writing have not resolved the PC issues. After four sessions of trying to work with HP technical support and 12 hours of wasted time, I am beginning to lose interest in HP products. Their resolution finally was to send me a pre-paid box to return the PC to their repair service center with a promise that I would have it back in a week. Poor consolation for the amount of trouble that the HP product support has caused and a very weak comparison to the Dell support that we have received over the years.

Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-10000BLK 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black Matte with Textured Finish)

Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-10000BLK 15.6-Inch LaptopI was looking for the perfect laptop to replace my old Toshiba. This laptop works great, no complaints so far. The price for this laptop is actually a steal with how fast the processor is. My mom bought one as well (her first laptop). I will update my review later if any problems arise and/or if my mom has anything to add.

Pros: Boots super fast (like SUPER FAST), lightweight (I carry it to class with me), Windows 8 is actually very easy to use once you get the hang of it (even the most computer illiterate person could figure it out), I LOVE the number pad as well

Cons: None yet

Sound Quality: It's loud enough for a laptop. I actually find the sound pretty efficient, but don't expect any "super bass" or anything.

But once again, this would be the perfect laptop for you, especially if you don't want to go buy an expensive MacBook.

The first thing that you'll notice is that it's extremely lightweight and is very uncomplicated. This is something that my 87 year old mother-in-law would be able to use right out of the box. Since she's never used a computer before, that says a lot. Many of the everyday apps that you use on a daily basis, are preloaded into the device. It comes with things like YouTube, Gmail and other Google products, and there are literally thousands of free apps available. It starts up very quickly and according to Google, updates are installed automatically. I've found all applications to run smoothly and quickly.

First of all its really fast, and lightweight, so i can carry it anywhere anytime. Battery lifetime is good, and the laptop has a very nice design. Anyway couldnt be more happier, no troubles so far with it and i hope there never will be.

The laptop arrived in 3 days in the original Dell packaging which was fairly protective of the unit being shipped.

Start up was surprisingly fast with no issues at all.

I am an avid Windows 7 user and was a bit reluctant going to Windows 8 due to the Metro UI interface.

I did a bit of reading of tutors on the net during the time the unit was in transit It was an easy transition to Windows 8 for me it does have the familiar desktop (with no start-up menu) and the Metro UI stat-up screen it's very easy to switch between the desktop and Metro screens.

All in all I had about a 30 minute learning curve before I was fairly comfortable with Version 8.

The more I use it the more I like Windows 8 coupled with this laptop.

Its fast, has no connection issues and is noticeably thin which makes it great for computing in just about any location in the home.

Battery life is excellent as well as the unit having a nice textured look. I am completely satisfied after a week of ownership.

I would highly recommend this Dell to most anyone looking for a mid priced performance packaged Laptop.

I like it!

Sony Open Box VAIO(R) SVS13127PXB 13.3" Notebook PC - Black

Sony Open Box VAIO(R) SVS13127PXB 13.3' Notebook PC - BlackPros: fast startup and resume from sleep, crisp screen, great keyboard, 8GB Ram, included Sony Creative software is actually very good, lightweight, decent battery life

Cons: i7 is only dual core (4 threads, though), built in speakers are terrible (although my Logitech external speakers sound fine when I hook them up), supposedly made of mag alloy but lid and bottom feel like plastic, trackpad is annoying

Bottom Line: if you can good a price on it and want a relatively powerful and portable 13" notebook, this makes an adequate choice. But, consider finding a quad core i7 if you can afford it the difference is noticeable if you are using processor intensive applications. Also, plan on using an external mouse the trackpad on this laptop is difficult to use.

UPDATE: After using the trackpad for the last few months, I have grown to like it. I needed to tweak a few of the sensitivity adjustments, but now it feels much better than other trackpads I've used. Also, the computer has been rock solid with no crashes or freeze ups since I've had it. Rating changed to 4 stars.

I thought it had silver color but it is black.

However, the machine is super nice and speed! I recommend.

HP EliteBook 2540p XT931UT 12.1-Inch Laptop

HP EliteBook 2540p XT931UT 12.1-Inch LaptopBeen building systems, deploying systems for over 20 years, and so far, for the past 3 years...our company has been buying Elitebook notebooks for our team, and we've not had a single unit fail, require an O/S rebuild, etc. All Vista and Win7 Enterprise installed right after purchases, and so far so good. This particular model is the smallest we've bought, and it's a fast PC with very long battery life and it's packed with more disk than a corporate user will ever need. Just Remember....NO internal DVD drive in this unit. We don't allow users to install their own software, and so the DVD drive just becomes a power using add on that is seldom used.

This is a fantastic laptop for those that have to move around a lot... it's combination of size and weight make it our go-to laptop for physicians to do their rounding at the hospital with.

Battery life is great, and you can even purchase a 9-cell battery for even more life (though as expected, it adds more weight).

I cannot comment on HP support as we have not yet had to get these laptops repaired, and we have over 50 of them in use currently for the better part of a year in a healthcare setting.

Has quite a few nifty features on them and I like the touchpad over the "eraser" pointer that you get on most small laptops.

After a week of use I am satisfied with this laptop. Since I already own a slim, USB-powered DVD writer, the lack of built-in DVD is no problem.

Pros include:

* very easily upgradeable to 6GB RAM,

* Windows 7 Pro,

* good battery life (how good is very dependent on what apps are running),

* runs very quiet,

* usually runs fast,

* using the fingerprint reader is more fun than typing passwords,

* supports hard drive encryption,

* allows me to work productively sitting in cramped airline seats,

* very light weight,

* lots of useful ports,

* SD card reader,

* ambient light sensor

* ...

Cons include:

* I wish they left out the pointing stick and its corresponding mouse buttons, allowing the touchpad to be bigger;

* while the laptop generally runs cool, it shoots a stream of warm/hot air out its right side;

* upgrading to 8GB requires more work, since one DIMM is located near the keyboard, and the other near the back of the laptop;

* the weight is unbalanced and the cover smooth, so it is a bit hard to carry for such a light laptop;

* I had to download some software update to make the laptop wake reliably from sleep mode.

The information under product detail has not been reviewed. The size of the computer is not 16 inches it weighs more than 3 pounds. So the description is misleading and lacks the information easily available on HP's web site. This is clearly the wrong forum to buy a complicated product like the HP2540p.

ASUS R704A-RB31 17.3" Notebook PC - Black

ASUS R704A-RB31 17.3' Notebook PC - BlackMuch more my style! I know where things are and appreciate the stimulus for growth in making Windows 7 familiar to me. I love the larger screen and 'soft' key touch. I came into the computer world kicking and screaming. This unit is 'user friendly' which I need!!

I have it for about a month now. Seems to be a decent notebook which has pretty much everything one would need. Only thing I'm missing is Bluetooth and a DVI port.

I like the special standby/instant on feature. It actually works well. Also cool is ASUS's one year accidental damage warranty. Just the notebook plastic case feels a bit cheap to me but I'm sure it's as strong as any other notebook's case. It feels light though maybe it's some special carbon mix. I'm going to put more memory in asap. The max is 8GB. There is 4GB build in and one open slot. I wonder if I have to buy 4GB or one 8GB module. The manual doesn't say. Anyone?

Acer Aspire One A0722-0369 11.6" 2G 320GB Amd C-60

Acer Aspire One A0722-0369 11.6' 2G 320GB Amd C-60This is an excellent netbook and I am very pleased with the overall look and performance! I like the overall design for starters. It was easy to use, had all the right features including decent resolution and sound, and it is so lightweight I wonder if it's in the carrier case sometimes. If you're a serious gamer this may not be for you; but if you mainly do social networking, music downloads, blogging, journaling and internet browsing this is a great choice. It was easy to watch movies on as well and mine came with Nook (amongst other things), which I have as yet to use. It also worked well with my paranormal investigation equipment and a programmer friend described it as a 'dream' to connect up to a network.I highly recommend this netbook.

I bought this amazing little computer for WiFi Internet use and for storing and playing back videos downloaded through the Amazon.com Unbox software. The display was great, and it played videos flawlessly; to me a miracle at the price point. Here I had everything my laptop has only without the DVD drive.

The problem is that the display developed a blue line down the middle that was there all the time. I researched and found that display problems seem to happen a lot with the Aspire One series of machines. Since I was within the return window, I deinstalled everything, wiped the data clean, and returned it. That was a lot of work for very little use. I'm thankful for the return policy, but not for all the wasted time commissioning and decommissioning this machine. It takes time to do that correctly.

I think Acer should have tested the display more before putting the machine into production. That said, I'm very open to buying a future version of this little miracle computer.

It is hard to find anything substantial to complain about here. The two downsides I see are that the display is glossy and difficult to read in bright light (like most laptops) and that the construction appears relatively cheap.

Nevertheless, this is exactly what I wanted and expected, a more or less disposable small laptop that would run Ubuntu well enough. Never even booted up Windows. I installed the Ubuntu 12.04 beta. Everything works: wifi, standby mode, encrypted lvm. 2GB of RAM seems to be plenty for my use.

I actually really like this netbook. It's the perfect netbook for someone like me who just needs it to do some online bill pay, Facebook, and general web surfing. I am also using it to save pictures, and so far so good. If you are a student, or someone who will get more than 6+ hours a day out of it, then I would go for a higher model. But this Acer has really impressed me.

Bought this as a straight upgrade from my Asus 1001p which was 3 yrs old and having problems charging because of the plug port. Once you uninstall the bloatware that comes prepackaged with everything these days and optimize windows 7 to run better on your netbook (search google) it works very well. Obviously I'm not gonna do any video editing or play the latest games on it but for surfing the web, watching videos, listening to music, school work and all the basics its great. As a plus the charger port is bigger and sturdier than that on my old asus.

HP Pavilion dv7t Quad Edition Notebook PC, Intel i7-2670QM, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 750GB HDD, 17.3' Screen, 2GB Radeon(TM) HD 6770M GDDR5 Graphics, Webcam, Fingerprint Reader, Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner,2 year limited warranty includedLaptops have been around for quite a while and they keep improving. HP has really gotten it right with the DV7t Quad Series. These are powerful and beautiful machines that are well-thought out, with impeccable build construction, and lightning-fast performance. I bought the one featured here on Amazon with the exception that I added a 2GB Hard Disk Drive and went with 12GB of DRAM. Overkill perhaps, but there you are.

The screen is superb on this Notebook. I have an external HP 2511x 25 inch monitor which I have considered to be pretty much the gold standard for monitors. The 17 inch screen on the DV7t is every bit as crisp and bright (perhaps even a touch brighter and crisper) and is very, very pleasant to work with. The keyboard is well laid-out and the keys are what touch-typists like myself look for. The touchpad is about as good as pads of this type get, and it has a hardware off-switch by tapping rapidly on a designated part of the pad. So if you are using an external mouse, like I do, you can deactivate the touchpad without having to deal with layers of Windows menus.

One nice feature that the touchpad has is the ability to "pinch" the screen so that it is magnified less or more. This is a very convenient feature for those of us who wear reading glasses. If a given website uses too-small type, on this computer the user can "pinch" the touchpad causing the size of the type (i.e. the magnification of the web page) to increase to any desired amount. I find myself using this feature often.

The Blu-Ray disk drive works perfectly and the picture is incredible. I played several movies on it with great results. I have not burned any Blu-Ray files yet.

Performance of this computer is what you would expect: lightning-fast. It can manipulate huge digital files with ease and perform other heavy-duty tasks better than any other computer that I personally have used. Unfortunately most digital photography programs are still 32 bit, but when they become 64 bit this computer will be ready for them, with performance that we can only guess at.

Physically, this is a beautiful machine. The black chassis has a spectacularly nice metallic look to it that is not the fingerprint magnet of earlier HP chassis. There are 4 USB ports (two on each side) and an HDMI port, which many users will want to use in connection with a second monitor. Personally I would have preferred that the USB ports be on the back rather than on the side.

The audio on this unit is pretty good, but the volume could be better. Playing a Blu-Ray disk, I found myself wanting and preferring powered external speakers.

The fingerprint reader is easy to use and works well. This enables the user to scan a finger, and subsequently log into Windows with just a swipe of the finger rather than typing in a password. Very nice. The Hard Disk Drive indicator LED is (weirdly) on the side rather than the front, so it is not visible to the user and thus pretty useless. Not a huge issue in the greater scheme of things. In mitigation of this, the external headphone and speaker jacks are on the other side of the computer, rather than the front, which is a big improvement over earlier models on which these jacks were on the front, presenting the user with cumbersome cables. Plus, this unit gives you two speaker jacks instead of one, which is nice to have.

This is not a small computer. Most users will not be toting it around for casual use like a tablet or netbook. This one, with its 17 inch screen, is really a portable desktop computer and that is how it fits into my scheme of things. It is really designed to be the user's main computer (it has no compromises as regards performance) with the added capability of being portable and capable of use without an AC cable for a time. For me (I am an attorney) that means I can work with it at home or in the office, and when necessary take it to the courthouse. For this type use this computer is hard to beat. iPads and netbooks have their own niches, and this computer is no iPad. But there are still certain applications for which a full-powered computer is required, and the so-called demise of the personal computer will not be occurring any time soon.

This is the best computer that I have thus far owned and used. Recommended without reservation. RJB.

The pavillion feels very cheaply made compared to previus pavillions. It feels like a toy and like it would break if I looked at it wrong. I picked the computer up by the bottom and the bezel and this caused the screen to crack. HP will not cover it under warranty because they say it was "accidental damage". I picked up my computer on purpose ... not accidentally. I should have a reasonable expectation that the act of picking up the computer wouldn't break it. I've tried on other laptops to apply enough pressure to the bezel to effect the screen and I couldn't do it. I would not buy from HP and buy from a company with a better constructed product and better customer service.

I ordered this laptop to do CAD work on. So far no problem opening and working with the very large Catia files I use for design. I had to mess around a little with the switchable graphics to get it to run Catia with the stand alone video card. It was trying to run it off of the built in video card. The obviously wan't cutting it. The battery life is pretty short, about 3-1/2 hours but that is expected considering the hardware this laptop has. I only have a few complaints. No back-lit keyboard, minor but slightly irritating for such an expensive laptop. HP bloatware that slows the boot time down quite a bit. The flat keyboard bezel was not snapped down all the way on the top part of the keyboard right at the center. I thought I was going to have to send the laptop back because of it but was able to snap it into place with a little prying and pushing. I guess I would say that the laptop is fast but typical of the way things are built now a days, not very refined and kind of cheap feeling. You shouldn't have to snap the keyboard in place on a brand new laptop you just spent $1,250 on. I guess if you really want build quality you could buy the similarly spec'd mac book pro and spend $3,000 for the same computer with a different OS.

HP Pavilion g6-2260us 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

HP Pavilion g6-2260us 15.6-Inch LaptopWe were in the market for a new Kitchen/Kids Laptop and wanted to get the best Laptop we could in the $500 price range. We plan to use this Laptop primarily for basic web browsing, home network access, some Excel and Word use and the kids will be using it to play on the web on various kid web sites. We don't need any super memory or processing power for Photoshop or anything like that. We have had a lot of luck over the years with HP PCs and Laptops. I have owned an HP Elite Desktop for a few years and this will be our third HP Laptop, all of which are still running great. We did a preliminary look and found that HP offered the features we were looking for in this price range so we settled on that brand and started researching.

I did a lot of research comparing all of the HP Laptops in the $400-$600 price range available at the time on Amazon and this one had the fastest processor. I found that all of the HP Envy Laptops and some of the Pavilions had AMD chips in them. I compared this i3-3110M to those specific processors on some benchmark sites on the web, and this chip came in faster in every instance. The price was around $508 when I first started watching it. I put a camelcamelcamel dot com price tracker alert on it and snatched it up when it dropped to the all time low price for this model of $449. A great deal in this price range for the fastest processor and other included features.

First Impression It is a nice looking Laptop. The trackpad has a rough texture which is different, but fine. The screen looks really nice. It has a full keyboard with a number pad which is great. It is only a couple of inches wider than our old 14" Laptop. The dimensions in the Amazon Technical Details section are misleading because they are way too big. I am guessing those are the dimensions of the shipping box. The Laptop is only about 15" wide.

Initial Setup Setup took a little while. Mostly basic questions that you would expect from any Windows installation. It easily connected to my Wireless N Router the first try. It did ask you to set up a Microsoft account so that you can download apps from the store which I did. Once in, I had no problem connecting to the shared drives on my Network. One of the easiest initial setups you could ask for.

Software Installation I immediately loaded a bunch of software on the machine. I installed Google Chrome, Dropbox App, Dropbox Software (yes, two different things), LogMeIn (for remote access), Microsoft Office 2007, tried to install Windows Security Essentials, but it comes with Windows Defender which does the same thing in Windows 8. Everything installed with no problems at all.

Performance and Web Browsing All of the software that I tried worked very well and very fast. No slowdowns to speak of. Web browsing with Chrome was great. No complaints at all about performance during my initial use.

Windows 8 I'm not going to comment much about this. I love Windows 7 and have never used Windows 8, so the first time out, it takes a bit to figure things out. I'm not sure if it is good or bad so far, but I was able to find the Desktop just fine and started getting used to the Metro UI pretty quickly. For what this machine will be used for (Kitchen and Kids access), the Metro tiles may actually work out better. It will just take some time to get used to.

In conclusion, this Laptop is great for the price. You get the fastest Intel processor in this price range, a good amount of RAM, a large hard drive, upgraded Intel HD Graphics 4000 (most in this range have the 3000 version), fast networking and overall nice performance. If you are looking for a lower priced Laptop and don't need the highest performance, you really can't go wrong with this Laptop in the $500 range. Highly Recommended!

=========================

ONE WEEK UPDATE (05/09/2013):

The Laptop is working really nicely so far. The screen looks really nice and the performance has been great.

After using Windows 8 for a little while, I did decide to install Classic Shell, which is a free program that basically brings back the Start Menu to the Windows 8 Desktop. I have used Classic Shell for years on my Windows 7 PC and it has always been great. Now that I put it on the new Windows 8 Laptop, you can barely tell it is a Windows 8 machine. It functions almost exactly like Windows 7, but you can still access the Metro UI and all the other Windows 8 functions. A much more comfortable experience in my opinion. Really a "best of both worlds" situation. Still Highly Recommended!

=========================

ONE MONTH UPDATE (06/06/2013):

Everything has been great with this Laptop so far. We have been using it daily for Web Surfing, Excel Work, Kids Games and Skype with the out-of-town Grandparents. We were told the Webcam through Skype looked really good from the other end. One complaint that I had was that it was driving me nuts that the F2 Key in Excel kept adjusting the brightness instead of editing the cell so I found a trick on the web that would switch the default on the combined Function/Action Keys by adjusting a BIOS setting [Disable Action Key Mode under the System Configuration]. Also since switching to Classic Shell, the Windows 7 like interface has been perfect and I am very happy having my Start Menu back. Overall, the performance has been great and everything is working as expected. We are very happy with this purchase.

I received this laptop yesterday after having to return the ASUS A55A-AH51 (unfortunately got a lemon). This laptop has been great so far. The set up was a no-brainer; fast and easy. I added 4GB of RAM (Kingston Value RAM KVR16S11S8/4) and I think this helped with the speed. All programs and apps are running perfectly...no problems. The internet connection was also perfect. This laptop comes with Windows 8. I'm not sure yet how I feel about it...it's different but I like the apps options. It is slightly hard to navigate but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon enough. If anything changes down the road, I'll add to the review.

Buy HP Pavilion g6-2260us 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black) Now

I got this so I could do some internet surfing, school work and some light Photoshop. So far so good. It runs Photoshop no problem and for under $500, that is hard to beat. I will probably add 4 GB of RAM in the future but for now the 4 it comes with will do fine. The screen is crisp and the keyboard is nice. I don't really like touchpads too much so will be getting a wireless mouse soon but it works fine just I don't like any of them. I would probably consider this one of the minimal specs for a laptop you would want if you would like to do Photoshop comfortably. Sure a lesser computer could probably do it, but would be pretty rough and of course a $1,000 laptop would handle it better but so far I have had no problems with it. I would recommend this laptop for sure for anyone who just wants it for the basics and even for someone who wants to do some lite gaming, for example, I have played the Sims Medieval on this with no problem at all. (probably games from before 2012 would run nice with this overall) or Photoshop or the like.

I love the size of this screen and the graphics are great and unlike a previous review I can say that it is very good for lots of gaming as well as movies. I have even grown to like the new system but what I cannot tolerate is the cost of Office 2013. I didn't expect at this price point to get it included for free but to charge $100 a year for a subscription is really pushing the limit. I would give this 5 stars if not for that.

Dell Latitude D810 Wireless Laptop Bluetooth PC Computer, Windows XP

Dell Latitude D810 Wireless Laptop Bluetooth PC Computer, Windows XPI ordered this laptop because of its legacy hardware ( serial ports, LPT ports, USB ports, and above all else, Windows xp pro)the purchase / checkout offered 2nd day delivery, yet took over 1 week to arriveAfter arriving, inspecting the laptop, it was carefully wrapped, no visible damage was present.

After putting everything together, plugging in the power cord, i get an error message that no hard drive is present, i go into the bios, and to my amazement, its still locked with a password, that no one knows-i pulled the Hard drive module out, and inspect everything, i find that the mini IDE header is missing a pin,

i emailed the seller this issue, he sends out another hard drivea week goes by, and it finally arrives, i opened the package, and notice, it does not have the replacement header that i need to make the hard drive work.

Frustrated, i get back on amazon, and search for this header adaptor, lo and behold, for 1.72 each, i buy 5 just to have them around in case i decide to buy another hard drive from these sellers that do not check everything fully.

If i had been an everyday normal 'joe-the-consumer', this would have been a disasterous exchange. i gave a low rating because, when you sell something, regardless what it looks like, it should be functional before you ship, (tested, and tried)

I purchased my D810 with windows XP refurbished from Tampa Laptops.

It is a good solid machine. The screen appears to be wider. It is a heavier machine. I notice it on those times when I need to carry it a ways. Not alot but more than some other computers. It has a very solid cabinet. Nice sized keyboard is easy to type on. Once in a while the keyboard gets warm. My battery on this used one is running around 3-1/2 hours on a charge which I consider fine. The battery of course varries on used machines due to it's condition. But this tells you that a good battery runs for a good length of time. I like the machine. I am runing lots of older vintage software like the great Lotus stuff, etc and wanted to upgrade computers but not throw out all my software that won't run on the newer Windows Systems. This was a great purchase at a nice price.

I really didn't know that operating a laptop would be so fun & easy. Not to mention convenient; I can take it with me because

it also runs off of a battery. Its powerful; fast and really professional looking. Great buy.

This computer had many problems, one which was no genuine window product in it. Sent it back, it costs me $23 for nothing.

Acer 15.6" i5-2430M 2.40 GHz Notebook | AS5830TG-6782

Acer 15.6' i5-2430M 2.40 GHz Notebook | AS5830TG-6782As I rarely review, the awesome-ness of this laptop inspired me to actually do one.

Pros:

-Battery life (6 hours give or take)

While watching tv shows connected to wifi, word docs opened, and multiple tabs running in firefox. This is a big pro for a college student like me since finding a plug in school is like trying to finding parking in manhattan, virtually impossible unless you wake up extra early and never leave your spot. There's always a bunch of freshmen hogging it at hours at a time. At this moment writing this review while procrastinating on my paper, I'm snickering inwardly at the poor suckers who are searching avidly for a plug that I currently do not need for longgggg while. Heck I don't even need to bring the charger with me to school since this laptop virtually lasts me the whole entire day that I'm in school, taking notes in class and spending leisure break time between classes. Not bringing the charger makes it so much easier to travel with.

-Solid keyboard and mousepad.

Keys are evenly spaced out and bouncy for the lack of a better adjective. The mouse pad feels smooth and is way more accurate and responsive than my hp laptop that I had since freshman year. Multi-touch interface is a nice add-on and works surprisingly well. Did I mention there's a number pad?? *happy dance* I like how they included for the fn+f6 combination a way to instantly dim your display all the way off to save battery when you need to be afk and the fn+f7 to disable the mouse pad just in case you wanted to use an actual mouse or so it doesn't move accidentally while typing, a feature that I loved in my hp that I worried for nothing that it wouldn't be an option for this laptop. The laptop also doesn't flex at all compared to the other thin ones I've looked at.

-Processor speed

Less than a minute in total to start up with the usual start up programs and 20 secs to automatically connect to the wifi. Took my 3 yr old laptop 10 mins just to do all that. Runs multiple programs well and the fan barely runs, when it does it's fairly quiet.

-Nvidia graphics card =)

-Speakers (clarity not as good as my old HP laptop but a couple of adjustments to the dolby home theater application, the speakers sound decent)

-640 gigs of space

Technically 580 gigs b/c of the bloatware and room for the OS. But it's plenty for my movies and music collection.

-USB 3.0

Blazing speeds for transferring files and you can charge your devices even with your laptop off.

-it's THIN and the physical aluminum chassis screams out durability and edginess

-Cheaper than a complicated mac

Cons:

-Screen quality

Highly reflective especially in sunlight, probably going to get a matte screen protector for it. Other than that movies still look great in the 15.6" screen.

I HAVE BEEN USING MY LAPTOP OVER A YEAR NOW AND I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. I WATCH MOVIES ON IT ALL THE TIME. IT IS LITTLE ON A HEAVY SIDE SO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND AS SOMETHING YOU NEED TO CARRY EVERYDAY. OTHERWISE FANTASTIC

Bought this computer in November 201170 days later computer will not turn on. Covered by warranty however you must mail computer to Texas to be repaired. Received "repaired" computer back however it still did not work. For the love of GOD do not purchase anything from Acer. Terrible customer service and product. Save yourself time and worry by looking at another manufacturer.

Both my friend and I bought these from the Microsoft Store (one in Arizona one in Virginia) during the 2011 end of the year sale.

My motherboard died within 1 month of use. My friends died after 3 months. Neither of us put the machine through any strenuous activities.

I am not sure if its a factory defect or if Microsoft did something to mess things up. Good thing is that you get a 1 year Acer warranty that pays for shipping and repair costs (takes about 10 days).

A shot in the dark, id guess it has something to do with the dual video card. The model has HD3000 graphics and Nvidia 240m and alternates between the 2 depending on demand. Sounds like a good balance but it could be messing with the motherboard.

Other than the risk of motherboard failure (lol), its a great machine. I use it as a desktop replacement. I really like the ability to wirelessly stream video to an intel Widi enabled TV.
