15.4" MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, SuperDr

This is an amazing computer. It's fast, powerful, and runs everything I can throw at it (granted, I upgraded to 8GB RAM). As a software engineer, I've used this computer pretty much every day since I bought it (2+ years ago). I run all kinds of tools and applications, and I rarely have issues with the machine or applications. Highly recommended.

It is a great product and gives quality gaming experience. The GTX 675m isn't the best card around anymore but still it holds great power and it is powerful enough to run all games that were released during 2011 at their max settings, It does seem like the graphics card is starting to get left behind as games such as Far Cry 3, Crysis etc. keep pushing the limits of pc gaming, but I can say that this graphics card will also be able to give you a great experience through those graphically intense games.

But enough about graphics, a laptop offers more than just that and I can say that this laptop delivers. The Dolby Home Theater sound system is great and it gives clear quality sound, great for gaming if you do not like using headphones, the system itself is pretty fast thanks to Intel i7 and the keyboard is one of the most comfortable ones I've ever used.

The screen is excellent, it is large and gives great color and brightness, I can say that it is one of the best screens out there for laptops, it even could be the best, the 1080p display does not disappoint especially the 120Hz support gives us beautiful fluent visuals. 4 USB inputs and all sorts of other ones such as VGA, HDMI etc. give great support for multimedia needs. Like that was't enough it also comes with a Blueray disc reader. The laptop also presents us with different modes with different situations, library, reading, balanced and gaming. All modes have their own different settings and work great.

The only problem I had with this laptop was that it has windows 8. Now, I am aware of the hate against the OS but after you get used to it, it is obvious that under the hood it's very similar to the other windows OS's and it even provides us with more variety since it supports apps. I have a Kobo account for books and it's great that I can use it with my computer to read books along with other apps such as Comixology and Tunein Radio. It can be confusing at first sight but once you get used to it Windows 8 won't be causing you much trouble anymore and you may even start liking it. But there are still some glitches here and there which I'm sure will be taken care of in time. It is a fast OS and with patience to learn, it can be satisfying.

This laptop for it's price gives more to it's buyers than other laptops do. I was actually torn between this and the Alienware M17x and decided to go with this since it had more features for the price. But it is still a fact that the Alienware M17x presents a more capable graphics card, yet like I said, the GTX 675m is still pretty capable, combined with the 16 gigs of RAM and the Core i7 this laptop is ready for gaming. If you know how to Overclock and also use the Razer Game Booster application you'll get even greater results. At the moment I tried out a few games such as Saints Row The 3rd and Crysis 2 and I am pleased with the performance. Saints Row the 3rd can be played at max settings on 1080p like butter and Crysis 2 with Vsync turned off never dips under 40.

If you are looking for the absolute graphics beast laptop, than you should try out an Alienware which will probably breakdown fast on you and won't be presenting other features than just graphics. But if you are looking for a laptop that is strong on all the fields, speed, ram, graphics, sound, memory, picture etc. than I'd say give this one a chance because it deserves attention. Plus if you are not satisfied you can always do a return and than get yourself another laptop. I hope this review has been helpful.

Crysis 2: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Vsync turned off.

Assassin's Creed 3: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice Anti-Aliasing on normal.

Saints Row The 3rd: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed.

Just Cause 2: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Anti-Aliasing around Off to 4X.

Hitman Absolution: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, keep Anti-Aliasing and Vsync turned off.

Rage: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed.

Alan Wake: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Anti-Aliasing off.

The Amazing Spider-man: Can be Played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Vsync turned off and Anti-Aliasing on low.

Farcry 3: It is slow on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice playing on High settings with Anti-Aliasing and Vsync turned off or playing using Dx9. Otherwise you can experiment with the settings to see wether you can get 30+ FPS by lowering specific settings.

Max Payne 3: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, keep MSAA turned off.

Serious Sam 3: Can be played well on 1080p with all settings maxed, I advice keeping Vsync turned off.

So far so good, no game gave me issues except for Farcry 3 and I believe that is mostly due to the games' bad optimization for mobile Gpu's. I advice keeping AA and Vsync off as much as you can on 1080p since AA does not make much difference on such resolution and if a game supports it play using 120Hz refresh rate because it's definitely much better than the average 60Hz refresh rate.

Just received my Samsung Series 7 Gamer today which arrived on time with satisfactory packaging. Laptop looks very nice from an aesthetic standpoint and boots/ runs faster than my desktop does. The dial feature on the side to change between modes feels a little unnecessary but fun so no point in taking off points for that. WASD keys lighting up red from the normal blue of the keys in gaming mode is a nice feature as I've sometimes had difficulty locating my home keys at night ! Also purchased a cooling pad for my laptop, running World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and League of Legends on maximum settings without difficulty, staying cool easily. Whereas my desktop would get start skipping on max settings in WoW: MoP the Samsung Series 7 Gamer seems not to have any trouble, only minor skip when changing zones etc. where there is a mass overhaul of environment but lasts no longer than a moment. Top of case tends to attract fingerprints rather quickly, just pulling it out of the packaging I already had several fingerprints from where I gripped it ! But then again, fingerprints scuff everything so no complaints there. A nice price-tag but I wanted to treat myself to a nice laptop for gaming (which I spend a lot of time doing) and it does not disappoint! Also, I did a lot of research prior to my purchase and to get similar builds I could not find a lower price !

UPDATE: after about three weeks of not too heavy use, the backspace key fell off. Samsung wanted me to mail it to a repair station in Texas. Still within the return period, so I'm sending it back to Amazon to get another one. Despite the problem, willing to try another one of these; otherwise, it's a great piece of kit. Worst part of it, honestly, are the HDDs, but they seem to be easily changeable.

I've had this laptop for about a day, and so this is by necessity a first impression; I'll update it later once I've had it longer.

The build quality is superb. I'm not sure if there's any metal in this, but it's high-quality plastic with an attractive finish. The images don't really show that the visible surfaces when the lid is open are a shiny brushed gunmetal gray. It looks and feels good. The shiny closed lid is also good-looking, but picks up fingerprints like crazy. Not really a big deal for me.

The keyboard is perhaps the best laptop keyboard I've ever used. The keys are dished and fairly long-travel, and are probably as close to the feel of a separate, desktop keyboard as is possible to get on a laptop. The keyboard layout is reasonably full, though there doesn't appear to be any way to send a BREAK without remapping. This is only really a concern for software developers using the standard keybindings in debuggers.

The screen, as others have said, is beautiful. Samsung's a big maker of laptop displays as well as monitors and flat-screen TVs, and this laptop is a great advertisement for their quality. It's bright, desktop-like, with great color and clarity.

The graphics chipset is capable of running World of Warcraft on 'Ultra' graphics settings at 60fps+, even in 40-per-side battlegrounds and 25-man raids. That's about as demanding as I get with graphics, and it's wholly up to the task. There are more expensive laptops with the more powerful NVIDIA GeForce GFX 675MX or 680M chipsets out there, but none of them are this affordable, and most of them make worse compromises in terms of weight, size, heat and looks.

Don't mistake, this is a big laptop. However, its styling hides its bulk quite effectively, and the wedge shape means it's comfortable to type on. It's also substantially smaller and lighter than the Alienware 17" offerings, let alone the 18" behemoth.

I thought before getting it that the rotary mode switch on the side was a gimmick, but it's actually quite useful. The settings for each mode are very customizable, and the modes are well-chosen to match common laptop usages. Certainly a lot easier than digging in Control Panel to switch between power modes!

When not in Game mode, this laptop is also admirably subtle. It doesn't scream 'Gamer Laptop!' unless you want it to, unlike most alternatives. You could take this into a sober business meeting and not draw too much attention.

If I had to carry this around every day, it'd probably be too heavy, but my personal laptop usage is as a movable desktop replacement, and this fits the bill. It can be easily packed up and moved, but it needs a substantial backpack and you certainly feel the weight.

For my needs, this is the perfect machine. The only real criticism I could lay on it is that it would be majorly improved by having SSD options, but I suspect the next revision of the hardware will. It does have a small caching SSD onboard, however.

Strongly recommended for the demanding user seeking a desktop replacement with no compromises on computing power and wanting something a bit more subtle than an Alienware.

It's about a year now since I've used this laptop and guess what. It's still amazing as ever.

I get to play all the awesome games like heart of the swarm, bioshock, call of duty, dead island riptide etc, and they all run smooth, and laptop is very silent and never gets hot.

But by the way, the reason why I'm updating this review is because mostly people talk about the specs, but I wanted to talk more about how comforting physically it is to use this laptop. The laptop has a keyboard that almost feels like typical desktop keyboard with an actual satisfying feeling of press and guys with big hands like me can use it. Most thin form factor laptops use pebble style like macbook. There's no problem using such keyboards, but this samsung gamer laptop has one super comfortable keyboard. Hours of usage and your wrists arent tired compared to flat style laptops. I just hope Samsung comes up with a new gaming laptop and I would definitely up for that one as well.

So I've used the laptop since last August, and here's my opinion so far.

1. Hardware

pros

-fantastic screen clarity and brightness, size

-keyboard not cut down to fit laptop, but feels just like typical desktop keyboards (very comfortable)

-Dual cooler. it sometimes got slightly warm, but you'd never feel hot. great cooling system. but it does get hot when you play in a warm, hot environment. just play far away from the heater (obviously).

-speaker is fairly great and decent with light bass. it's at a decent level that unless you got a nice subwoofer speaker from bose, laptop's own speaker would suffice your usage.

cons

-heavy. even though I knew it was going to be heavy and big, I thought I could carry it around for work to other states. turns out it's better not to attempt that. can be considered as thick and heavy. power bar is the size of a brick.

-there's lighted up turbo icon above the keyboard. it has no use but doesn't really look cool either. different design or something cooler on next version.

final thoughts on hardware

-very sturdy and greatly designed laptop that can be used for a long period of time without discomfort that only downside is its thickness and size, but pros cover cons.

2. Features

-they got those four modes using dials. you will never use it. at least I didn't. always put them on game mode because I play games, but didn't really feel much difference and feels fussy switching whenever you're word typing and then play crysis, etc etc.

3. Power

-After 6 months of heavy, very heavy usage, everything still boots up instant, and loading is fast. I can still easily run Farcry3 on high and that applies to basically any games. there are no limits to this machine in current era. whatever you want to play will be playable on midhigh to very high.

Conclusion

-After several months, the laptop still greatly satisfies me, and always feels very comfortable to use.

who is this for: heavy gamers, or IT employees requiring processing power. or if you want something really cool at a decent and cheaper price from Amazon

who should stay way: people who want to travel with it often.

I was kinda hesitant about buying a laptop to replace my 4 year old media/gaming pc. I wanted something that I could connect to my tv in the living room for my main source of entertainment since I play a reasonable amount of games and use Hulu for shows. Also I wanted something that I could take with me and have the same great experience on the road. As of right now I have my gaming mouse and keyboard connected to the device. When setting up Windows, the keyboard on the laptop felt really well positioned and very east to type on. The screen on this looks amazing and a lot of my friends that see it can vouch for that. Being that its a Samsung screen i'm not surprised on how great it looks. What I'm more shocked about is that Samsung makes a great laptop. Ive owned a few Samsung devices in the past such as tvs, phones, and tablets and loved them all. When it came to computing I always stayed with my "goto" brands HP or Asus. Its only been about a week of owning this and I've thrown Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Torchlight 2, and Deus Ex Human Revolution at it and it seems to run everything on high really well with a high frame rate. I was kind of amazed on how good Guild Wars 2 ran because for some reason that game benchmarks a bit low on other systems. I was getting a reasonable 50-60 fps in major hubs so no complaints there. All in all I know for $1500 I could have built a pretty monster PC but I wanted the mobility and I believe I made the right choice. If your looking for a great laptop this is hands down the best price I've seen and I'm glad that Samsung is stepping up to the plate in gaming mobility.

worked great for about 3 months then got slow and its not a virus I downloaded Macfee the top of the line online sucurity. In the past 3 months I renstaled vista still runs crappy I feel that 400 dollars is too much and if it was selling for 100 you could consider it (1 GB not 2 GB RAM)

There is design flaw in this computer which causes the solder between the motherboard and graphics card to go bad. Like the others mine went bad in a year of moderate use. Had it repaired twice, once by HP, once by and independent company and has failed again shortly after both. I will no longer be buying HP products nor will I be able to recommend them to friends and family. This coming from someone who once avidly encouraged people to buy HP.

We had two of these computers. The one only lasted 1 year until the mother board burned out, and the second one only lasted 2.5 years because the graphic card broke. Not to reliable and built very cheaply.

This model was my 2nd laptop. I never had any issues with it. I bought mine from Office Max for around

$720 with tax in 2005. The only problem I've had out of it is when I.....put a pen on the keyboard near the

screen and foolishly closed it without thinking; cracking the screen. I've taken it apart and depending on

price, I might replace it. I own a Toshiba Satelite and another HP dv6 series bought almost two years ago.

In total, I have owned three HP laptops.

To make laptops more affordable some parts are made with plastic or other materials which degrade when hot.

NO laptop fan will cool it efficiently and require laptop users to need a good laptop fan/cooler. There are ways

to circumvent the shortcomings in manufacturing when computer companies do this. I replaced the power jack/port

on the Toshiba with a sturdier model which cost $2.99 and about 2 hours labor myself.

NO DUCT TAPE INVOLVED.

It sucks that many people have had bad experiences with HP. Everyone has their own preferences and I for one

have had great ones with HP. This model is best for a desktop replacement WITH a good laptop cooler.

This product shipped super fast and has been a great investment all around! Windows 8 is amazing the numerical keypad is very useful as well. I recommend this laptop to all!

Wow, received in three days. Purchased for my two high school kids who easily and quickly learned Windows 8 operation. Fast boot up and great resolution. More than enough power and memory for internet searching, playing/streaming videos and music and doing homework. Should easily take my kids through high school without an upgrade for 3-4 years, if not longer. Will probably get a third laptop: this one's for me.

HP EliteBook 8460p XU057UT 14.0" LED Notebook - Core i5 i5-2410M 2.30GHz

Purchased an Iconia A501 for ~$550 here at Amazon. It came locked so I decided to stretch for ~$200 more and get a computer.

I was comparing this with the HP ProBook 4530s the big differences were Docking station, SIM CARD slot and the i5 processor + Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

I have been working with this computer for ~5 months since I have one at work provided by the company.

I love it. I have seen it perform very well using multiple resource hungry applications and it is fast.

To my surprise, although the SIM card slot is there, when you open it up there is no SIM card reader installed it is a separate module which could be acquired on eb** for ~$100.

This applies only for the HP 8460p XU057UT . There are different part numbers/models (XU057UT) with different specifications and prices. So do your research before purchasing

These were my first impressions. Now in detail:

The good:

-I love the keyboard and the spacing between the keys.

-The touchpad is big and it has a small golden "spot" which if you double tap, it disables the touchpad.

-QuickWeb This computer has a minimal OS built in one of the partitions which means that when the computer is shut down, if you touch the key between the wireless hardware switch and the mute button, it will start the computer with a linux based OS that is very fast and it gives you almost instant access to a web browser and skype. Yes, it allows you to connect wireless that is how you get online. The quickweb button looks like a globe and in windows will open the default browser.

-The aluminium case is nicely built and it feels nice, looks elegant.

-Windows 7 Professional 64 bit edition. You can install xp mode.

-Camera is nice and it works fine.

-Docking port on the bottom I am using it with an external monitor and keyboard and occasionally take it with me on the road every now and then. The docking port will set you ~135 off here at amazon

-The ability of installing an extra HDD in the Optical Drive bay.

-Easy to open cover on the bottom for upgrades using the battery cover

-Up to 8 Gigs of memory easy to install.

Almost forgot to mention this thing comes with a western digital 320 gb so if you plan on installing an SSD my work computer has an SSD and the difference is huge.so the software that comes with windows which you'd use to create a system image asks you for a hard drive equal in size or larger an ssd 300 GB is ~$ 600 and up Or you can get a retail windows license and a smaller SSD. Probably System Builder disk/OEM win 7 would do you fine. note to note if you install windows 7 from scratch or you format the hard drive and remove the partitions, you will lose the quickweb feature as it resides in the partition _HP Tools.

-Comes with a lot bundled software some of it useful some not so, depends on your needs you can uninstall the one you do not need. I like the hard disk encryption and fingerprint reader plus the HP assistant will update all the drivers for you.

-Counterstrike Source is playable with the integrated HD3000 Intel graphics if you lower the graphic settings. This does not mean you can get it for gaming. You can do very very light gaming.

And the fan will start screaming and the laptop will get warmer not really hot on the right upper side of the keyboard where the chipset and processor are.

-Sandybridge implementation: This baby has USB 3.0 ports. 3 of them and an esata port.

-Has a DVD writer combo which is fine the usual.

-Onboard sound is ok.

The bad:

-The touchpad keys look like they are not lining up perfectly.

-The screen is not so great but on the other hand is a matte screen.

-The keyboard light does not provide enough light for you to see all the keys. Not a big deal to me as I touch type.

-I still can't get over the fact that HP did not include some useful disk creation software that would not have this limitation(equal or larger HDD). Or create the installation disks for the OS.You get disks with the drivers and software they provide. Not the OS disc.

Looks about the same as older elitebooks. Hinges are not as noticeable.

Improvements are many:

1) I5 runs cool and quiet. Didn't gotten hot on my lap even during installation of MS Office 10.

2) Solidly built. The area below your palms doesn't flex and nor does it flex if you hold the laptop from the corner.

3) Easy access panel to memory, hard drive, for upgrade, maintenance, and cleaning.

4) Decent battery life. Not as good as apple but getting there. Runs for 4-6 hours on standard battery.

5) Bigger mousepad.

Complaints:

1) Larger mousepad gets in the way of typing sometimes.

2) Continues to run when laptop is left unattended. Waste of battery.

3) A little on the heavy side, although expected with more metal parts.

4) Buttons have a little more travel than desired, especially the mouse buttons.

Best laptop so far. Looks like this one will last for a while.

Love this computer. The form factor is beautiful! The keyboard redesign (over previous models) is perfection. The brushed metal finish is wonderful and doesn't pick up fingerprints. The the trackpad is wonderful as well (bigger than most other computers). It does feel fairly hefty/rugged, but it gives it a very sturdy feel (just not as sleek as some of the pictures make it look).

The fingerprint scanner works like a charm.

Excellent fit and finish. Solid feel, not loaded down with bloatware. Excellent features: CAC reader (a plus for Military users) solid keyboard, removable back for upgrades, turn on/off switch glidepad, biometerics, usb port, spillproff keyboard, etc. Runs very nice with Win7 x64 and 4 meg. I have ordered 4meg chip to bring up to 8meg, should improve speed. Only complaints are edge on front bezel (a bit sharp) and screen could be touch better (sharper/brighter). For the price this laptop is a hit for HP, quality compares nicely to Thinkpad I used to have.

I was looking for a durable laptop, with a comfortable keyboard, and a matte screen. This laptop has it all! I spend hours on my laptop writing. This laptop does not hurt my eyes or my fingers. Its not the most modern looking laptop, but it is super sturdy. Its fast and the price was right. In fact, it was under my budget so I bought myself a new camera. I wish it had a backlit keyboard, but that wasn't a must. Overall, I am very pleased with the laptop.

HP ENVY 15t-3200 Notebook

It's been about a month now since i got it and it's working pretty well. no complaints thus far. It's really a good deal people.

I have been in IT field for 15 years. So far, this Envy 15 notebook is my favorite machine. I've used it for almost everything (IT works, digital video/photo editing, games, watching movies). Now with Windows 8 Pro on it, performance is rock solid. For the price I paid, I have nothing less than good to say about this notebook. HP did a great job on this computer.

I was excited when I bought this product as a gift for my wife. It all went flat the very first day, the notebook hard drive crashed and I got good support from the seller LGI but I had to return it as it had to be replaced. I'm currently working with LGI on a replacement option as this model has been discontinued. Will check back in on the results

Lenovo ThinkPad 32605VU 15.6-Inch Laptop

The laptop I bought works very well. The speed is great and it is in great shape. It charges quickly and the charge holds pretty well.

This is the second thinkpad I've had.The hard drive on the last one failed

without warning, taking quite a bit of information with it.

I think Lenovo could figure out how to warn you earlier so you could backup

externally. That's why I can't give this a 5, because I'm afraid the same thing

will happen eventually.

Other than that I liked the other one, and this one so far works ok, tho I haven't

used it much yet.

It doesn't run very hot and doesn't have any problems handling my normal workload. The graphics card handles applications such as Unity 3d like a champ (and, really, better than it's supposed to). The screen "feels" small for its size, but that's a minor complaint. I like to wait a few months before reviewing computers, but I have a feeling that this one will pan out just fine.

Gateway 450ROG Centrino 15" Locd Notebook

I have had this laptop for barely three months now and although I bought it used it has not failed me. It is not only reliable it also looks more compact and durable. It has a compact body, it is quiet in operation and provides an awesome audio sound. It doesn't look very modern so people may not like it but I can assure you sometimes it is good to stay with the old-type electronic gadgets. Most of them are more durable than many of the the modern ones. Go for the Gateway 450Rog centrino and you will like it. I highly recommend it

HP Pavilion g6-1d18dx Laptop Computer / 15.6-inch HD Display Screen / AMD Dual-Core A4-3305M Accele

The price is great but you get Garbage. Within 1 week of buying I see that the keys on the keyboard stops working. You will hit a J and it thinks you are trying to do F2 or screen swap. The only way to get out of this is to log off and log back in. The hot keys at the top of the keyboard are swapped. So F5 does not do refresh. I have never been able to successfully connect wirelessly with my printer. Now after about 2 years, entire folders disappear. What do I mean by that? Well you can go to Windows Explorer (file manager) and you can go to your My documents folders and you can see your "Kids" folder (as an example) but if you write a word document and then go to save it, the "kids" folder within your My documents folder cannot be seen. So what I have to do is save it to my desktop and then move it manually to the kids folder. This also means that for the most part if I want to send an email with an attachment I need to save to the file to my desktop to ensure I will be able to find the file to attach to the email for sending. I bought this laptop brand new and before this I had a Compaq Presario CQ60 that went bad a few short years after buying brand new. I am really starting to think I should avoid all HP laptops all together.

I actually received this as a gift. I am actually quite impressed with the laptop. It isn't speedy at first, but that's to be expected of any computer. The AMD A4 is actually sufficient for this notebook and arguably, it feels speedy. The display is great. 1366x768 so it's 720p HD(if you round, of course). Windows 7, of course, is great. I plan on adding a Seagate Momentus XT, and upgrading the memory to 8 GB(that's the max that's allowed). I also plan on adding Windows 8 once it comes out. But for now, this laptop is just great!!

The thing that brought me to this system was the 2GB GT525M card most of the other systems have only the 1GB cards, and 2GB really makes a big difference. Also this has a slightly better processor than most of the other 15z's that I've seen (i5-2430 compared to i5-2410). Overall this is a great deal if you can snag it under 1k.

I've had this model (in Cappuccino) since 2010. I've had zero problems with this. I've used it for work, school, to play workout DVDS, and my kids have used it for games. The graphics are great. The speed is great. I like the screen size and output. The backlit keys are wonderful. I can even excuse the fact that there is no number pad. Nothing but great things to say about this. Mine is still running perfectly.

I have used the mailbug for the past 11 months, have bought 9 for family members and find the mailbug an unbeliveable tool for me at home. It sits in my kitchen and my wife and daughter use it daily.

I bought this device for my mother, who not only is not a computer person, but is also a techno-phobe (she still prefers old-fashioned 'round dial' phones!). However, I thought this would be a good way for her to keep in touch with people.

It's been a tremendous success! She loves it, and emails people all the time. I tried it and it's got great usability, the keyboard is very comfortable (standard-sized), easy-to-read screen. This is really for non-computer people who are comfortable being limited to text emails. It has very limited internet functionality (current weather, sports results, etc, all text-based). Anyone who likes to browse the internet or read/send email attachments should not rely on this device. However, as a text-message communication device, it's perfect. My mother has now owned it for 7 months and it has been running solidly the whole time.

We purchased this for my 80+ year old mother-in-law who has no computer experience thinking it would be simple to use and practicle for sending messages to 4 5 family members around the USA. It was fine for about two weeks then the email account was inundated with SPAM. Mother-in-law could not cope with this and the service provider has NO SPAM filter nor any solution for the problem. We cancelled the email account and removed the appliance from mother-in-law's residence.

My wife's been using this little device for close to a year. It is what it says e-mail only. And that means no HTML, no attachments, no graphics, just text. It's very easy to set-up and use. My only complaint (because I had low expectations) is that you cannot set the automatic mail checking interval it is set at about every 3 hours. One nice extra, though we've got voice mail on our home line and the MailBug detects the odd dial-tone and indicates messages waiting. Apple MacBook Air MC234LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)

I don't think I'll go back to regular "full-size" laptops again. I didn't think that the weight difference between my 15.4" 2008 MacBook-Pro and the "AIR" would be so substantial, but it is. My back is thanking me. Even with the power supply and my average bring-to-work payload, I often forget that I'm wearing a bag.

As far as general computing goes, it has been -by far -the most pleasing computing experience I've had in over 17yrs working with computers... no doubt because of the SSD.

--Average applications load in one or two "bounces", tops.

--Web pages load faster

--No stuttering when displaying the contents of a a folder, scrolling through image galleries, etc.

--Startup/Shutdown times.

Other PROS:

--Screen is perfect. I was worried that the glossy screen may be a little bothersome, though I've yet to come across a situation where it was a problem and I've taken it everywhere with me.

--Its build seems "solid". Maybe it's a trait of the new unibodies, but, when the lid is closed; it feels like a solid piece of metal that would be very difficult to damage. Maybe im naive, but I no longer feel the need to wrap my laptop in 4 layers of protection to keep it from damage in my bag.

CONS:

--Today's laptops support up to 8GB, typically in 2x 4GB configurations. It would be nice to see support for a 4GB module in the future.

--Typical complaints: no firewire or eSATA, only 1x USB.

--Runs a little hot, and I'm not fond of the location of the exhaust vents.

OTHER:

Don't call it a netbook or a laptop. It's the best of both worlds. It deserves its own category.

First of all, make sure that the battery is working properly. I just returned one with a bad battery -it kept telling me that there was no battery present and also the system kept stalling. But i did play around with one that worked properly.

I'm only going to speak about the SSD (higher end) version. If you are going to get this MacBook Air, I completely feel that you are wasting your money buying the lower end version. The lower end drive is terribly slow and feels underpowered whereas the SSD drive version beats a faster MacBook Pro with a HDD. To further illustrate, the Macbook Air SSD opens up Adobe Photoshop in 3 seconds. Word in 2 seconds or less.

So here are the pros:

--super, light...it's addictive, wonderful. You'll carry it everywhere, annoyingly so.

--good battery life. I think the battery life in real world conditions even beats out the 7 hour battery of the Macbook Pro. Seems to use less battery and more intelligently

--AC converter is also light to carry around (but i still think it should be lighter)

--sturdy, and able to comfortably hold with one hand

The cons:

--don't use this for multimedia, other than simple video, YouTube, etc. If you try playing HD video on this machine loses frames

--the speakers! sorry, the speaker. don't use this machine for presentations that involve sound. hard to hear in a busy environment (such as trade shows). really i think this is the worst con!

--the USB port is hard to reach, difficult for those USB Verizon/Sprint/AT&T mobile broadband sticks. You have to use with a cable. But i think this is just a little cosmetic issue

The non-issue issues:

--lack of DVD drive. Other than installing software or viewing DVDs that someone wants to you watch then and there, how many times do you really need to do this? If the answer is frequently, then this machine is definitely not for you (go with a Macbook Pro). If occasionally or infrequently then the networked DVD drive (using Bonjour) works really well. If you feel a need to get a portable drive, then don't get this machine. It wasn't meant for this, really.

So, who is this for?

--writers! Screenwriters, students, business writers, writers, period. This is the funnest machine to use if you are a writer, period. you will love the ability to take this everywhere, put in a small, light bag, just open it up and start writing, either in Word, Pages, Final Draft, etc. (I HIGHLY recommend using a service like Dropbox - -so that whatever you write is automatically synced over the air to your home desktop, automatically! -no need to worry about losing your work ever!).

--traveling business people who need to show off pictures, electronic brochures, etc. Even to walk around shop floors and plop that Macbook Air out of a bag, hold in hand as you are walking

--road warriors, photographers on the road, journalists, etc.

I'll say it straight away: I love the MacBook Air (MBA). I am a PowerBook collector, and have been using Apple's portables for many years, so I have some solid background in relation to their portable computers.

You may not know this, but in 1997 Apple had what, at the time, could be considered as a MBA. It was the PowerBook 2400c. What a machine it was. Small (10.4" screen) and light (4.4 lbs.). It came sans floppy drive: floppies were built into many laptops around the time the 2400c hit the streets, although they were on there way out. It also had reduced ports, but still included 2 PC Card slots. Strangely, it has a sort of unibody case, a landmark in design at the time. Underneath, you will find no interruptions in the case: it's all one, and the case wraps up and around smoothly. Released only in Japan, with just a handful of the units making it to the US, it is a rare machine indeed.

I think the reason Apple confined it to the Asian market was because the keyboard is 87% the size of a full-sized keyboard: it's a netbook size keyboard. People are larger in other parts of the world, so they may have thought that users wouldn't take to it in those areas. Overall, the 2400c could be considered as a netbook: Apple's first and only netbook to-date.

But what about the MBA you say. Isn't that a netbook? The MBA is a ultra-portable laptop, rather than a netbook. It's a full featured laptop. Apple never meant it to be a netbook. It makes hardly any of the compromises that netbooks make. You get a full-sized, backlit keyboard. A 2.13 Ghz Core 2 Duo, with an Nvidia 9400M, 256 MB graphics card, the same one found in Apple's MacBook and entry MacBook Pros. Some compromises are lack of a firewire port; 1 USB port; no ethernet port; no DVD-drive...

But with things like Remote Disc, etc. I don't need any of these things that are missing on the MBA, especially since this is a companion computer to my Mac Mini and MacBook Pro.

This model is much improved over the first generation MBA: better graphics chip, faster processor, and cheaper. Combining these specifications with such a thin, light design is impressive. What about its performance? It performs very well, I am happy to report, after 5 months of use. iWork, HD playback, web surfing... It's the SSD that really helps things along. Shutdown times, application launches, everything is speedy because of the SSD. It's actually faster for many tasks than pretty much any MacBook/Pro that is running a standard platter hard drive.

But things like converting audio and video... the MacBook Pros will outperform the MBA because of their faster processors and ability to use more RAM. This leads to the following question: Can the MBA be used as a sole machine? My answer to this is yes, depending on your needs. It is capable of being a sole machine. But if you are someone working with video, audio, and the like, you would be wise to go with a MacBook Pro (i.e. 15"). But still, this machine is capable enough that you can throw pro apps at it and it will work for you.

Here is the caveat with the MBA though. Don't have too many applications open at once, because it only has 2 GB of RAM. There are a few service providers out there who will unsolder the RAM from the MBA's motherboard, and solder back on 4 GB of RAM. If I were using this a a sole machine I would probably go for that service. But you can still get by using it as a sole machine with 2 GB of RAM.

Here is one piece of advice: get click-to-flash. It shuts down flash in Safari, or whatever browser you are using, and makes internet surfing more manageable on the MBA. It's not that flash makes browsing on the MBA impossible, it's just that it frees up resources and speeds things up. With flash heavy sites like YouTube, playing flash videos, for instance, can cause this model to heat up some, and then, by default, the video will become a bit choppy. This will only really happen if you are obstructing the air vents on the MBA. So if you are not using click-to-flash, make sure your MBA's vents are clear and free of any obstructions when web surfing.

But, mind you, flash in Safari causes even the MacBook Pros to heat up...

Let's now get back to what really sets this unit apart from anything on the market: it's super light and super thin. I did an in depth comparison to the Dell Adamo, and determined that the MBA is actually much thinner overall than the Adamo, even though the MBA is thicker than the Adamo at its thickest point. It's just that more of the MBA is significantly thinner than the Adamo, so overall it's much thinner, and it shows. Not only this, but the MBA is much more powerful: better processor and better graphics.

It is a joy to use and carry such a small, thin and light device, especially in comparison to lugging around the MacBook Pro 15.4". And for those of you who are switching from the venerable PowerBook G4 12.1", you won't be sorry. This machine makes it look antiquated, and its speed leaves it in the dust.

Other things I like about the MBA specifically: the screen is great. The best screen Apple has ever done. Somehow it is less reflective than my 15.4" MacBook Pro. The trackpad is nice and large, too. The retractable ports are really cool, and battery life is decent as well.

For those contemplating a netbook, I was too. I finally decided that netbooks just made far too many compromises and opted for the MBA. I guess my logic went exactly along the same lines as Apple, since Steve said during the MBA Keynote that netbooks make too many compromises and aren't worth the trouble. But if you want something diminutive for very light computer use, netbooks might be your ticket item. For me though, I couldn't live with the paltry processing power, small keyboards and trackpads, and tiny screens.

Lastly, one thing to keep in mind is that this machine, because it is so thin and light, is a tad fragile. It's still rugged, but you have to be more careful with it than, say, a MacBook. I wish the screen would open up more, but other than this, and the heat issue as described above, it's pretty much a perfect product.

After owning and enjoying the first generation Macbook Air (1.6 MHz, 80GB drive), this unit is an unbelievable upgrade. For the same price as the original, this unit is incredibly faster. Programs start up about 3 times faster and the SSD drive is silent and extremely quick. Startups and shutdowns are noticeably quicker too. My initial experience has indicated that the battery life should be better as well. I was also impressed with the browser speed pickup as pages seem to render all at once without the typical lag the original unit had.

One thing you might not notice unless you read the product description carefully is that the USB Ethernet Adaptor is now included with the computer. So it is a mystery that this adaptor is listed as a commonly purchased accessory for this model. I almost bought one myself.

The MacBook Air is an unexpectedly nice aesthetic improvement in using a computer. Lightness, thinness and silence (with the SSD) make a surprising difference. Another thing I like compared to the MacBook Pro is that the edges of the case are tapered, not sharp 90 degree corners that scrape your arms. Particularly if you are considering the 13" MBP, the MBA is definitely worth a serious look.

I bought this laptop 1 month ago and haven't opened the package. when I checked it many days ago, the laptop is working good, but only one exception, the charger is not working. It's not the adapter, it's the charger inside the laptop, when i use by battery, it's ok, but only plug the charger in the laptop, i see the LIGHTNING in the connection. the power didnt going the battery as well as the laptop without battery.
