This is a great, ultra portable laptop! It's definitely all performance with none of the frills of most other laptops (unless you indulge in a fingerprint scanner). Okay, sure, it doesn't have the best graphics card, but who honestly looked at this and thought, "gaming computer!". It's powerful, reliable, and great for business or for people who like to work when they travel. Plus all of the intense lenovo recovery ware makes you feel safe in the event that it DOES mess up on you. As long as you can turn the computer on, you can get all of your files onto an external hard drive and easily restore the computer to an earlier state-without ever having to log into windows. As a student, I appreciated the ease with which I could travel with this laptop, as well as its speed and processing capability.
Unfortunately there are some serious shortcomings with this laptop, as follows:
unstable, weak keyboard: peeling off the keys to clean makes it impossible to reattach the keys, unlike in previous ibm thinkpads which are ultra rugged. they really cut corners on the quality. even popping off and replacing one letter keys has caused that key to be unreliable ever since; on fast typing it doesn't fire correctly. what's the point of a blazing hot i7 when, when you're typing you have to go back to correct 'coectly'? because i'm afraid to touch the keyboard now, it's gathering dust in the corners and is hard to clean.
rapidly degrading battery. maybe 6hrs instead of the advertised amount.
whenever i'm running on battery, the screen inexplicably whites out (extremely high contrast to an almost unreadable state) for 30 seconds at a time, every half hour or so.
wireless card not very good: everytime i take the computer from standby, it shuts off; it doesn't interface well with access points; it blinks out sometimes -the drivers are no good at all
the latch connecting the battery to the computer is defective; when you drag the computer forward on a surface, it disconnects and the power cuts out, making you lose all your work
the keyboard is the biggest deal for me, but all these other things made me feel like lenovo threw out all the quality and ruggedness that made ibm thinkpads great. i loved that old keyboard and now it's just not the same. tl;dr next time, i'm getting an overpriced macbook
still 3 stars for great processor, ram, and price. i'm not afraid of firing up programs and running multiple browser windows, stuff i couldn't do on my old computer. too bad the KEYBOARD doesn't wok (i mean work).What was the reason to create the expensive machine with all good stuff, but include the cheapest and the low-quality Intel HD Graphics video card ?. The graphic card is the key speed component not only for gaming, but for everything. The answer is simple. Lenovo wants you to change laptop every year. Do not buy.

I bought this because it is a slightly lighter (under 5lb) 16-inch machine at a good deal. Here are my peeves in order of frustration level.1. Wireless reception is VERY weak. I read about this on MSI Wind on other forums too. It cannot catch 802.11 n over a 2 story 2500 sq ft house. Only in the room with wireless router and the next room. All my other devices have no problems AT ALL. I can catch signals upstairs, downstairs, in bathrooms with other devices (laptops and iphones/ipods)...
2. Touch pad is slightly different for scrolling etc. from the Synaptics style so that's a little relearning curve.
3. Windows Update gave some failures. Could be a Windows 7 issue but I have not seen these on other Win-7 machine. And I haven't even installed too much SW or apps yet.
So if you want long-distance wireless or Synaptics style touch pad, this is not for you.

This is either the wrong product or I got sent the wrong thing the dimensions are way smaller than advertised. --so this is way too pricey for what a small computer I got. Advertised dimensions are-Item Dimensions L x W x H 19.29 x 13.15 x 3.31 inches. The one I was sent is 15" x 10 1/2" x 1". Luckily I was able to get this model on educational discount with tax exempt, but the price tag is still too high for the performance.The MD213LL/A model with a 256GB SSD is selling for $1499 now and that's probably the best value for the 13" retina models. The 3210M and 3230M intel processors differ less than 5% in performance. The only trouble with the older model is the screen burn-in issue that may be present in a large batch. On this current model, the burn-in is not noticeable unless you go all white from a high contrast still image, then there is still some minor burn-in. But other than this minor annoyance, the screen looks amazing in terms of details and color saturation.
Intel HD 4000 on a 3230M is a joke for a 2560x1600 screen. It will play movies and do some light design work, but anything a bit advanced causes problems. Even AutoCAD 2D work and Photoshop CS6 presented display problems in multiple instances for me. This should really be a Macbook Retina, not Pro at all.
A few years back, Intel barred Nvidia from making Northbridge chips for Intel which included an embded NVidia graphics chip, so now Apple has to put 3 large chips in a Macbook Pro for it to have discrete graphics. This is very sad. The Intel HD 4000's performance on a 3230M chip is at best on par with a NVidia 320M. I would have been VERY happy if the 13" model had even a 630M graphics chip, not to mention one of the new mid-range 700M series. It would have made this little laptop almost PERFECT! The price tag then wouldn't be so unjustified neither.
I use many Windows applications, Bootcamp with centralized drivers allowed me to install Win 7 on it hassle free and runs as it should.
It really depends on what you use this laptop for. For everyday internet browsing, documents and typical use, this laptop will run very nice for you. For design work, heavy processor usage or ANY graphics intensive applications, this laptop is a major disaster. For gaming, steer away completely.
UPDATE: The newer batch of the 2103 MacBook Pro 13" Retina does not seem to suffer from image burn-in at all. A burn-in test revealed no ghosting at all (as of April 30th). Apple seems to have silently resolved the issue in production.

What a beautiful, beautifully made machine. The display is stunning. It is lightning fast. The operating system is a dream. I love working on it more than any other computer I currently own or have owned in the past. It is also lightweight and elegant looking. I got this laptop as a Christmas/graduation present from my parents. Overall, I'm so pleased. The battery life is amazing, the display is awesome, and the fact that it already came with Windows 7 was really convenient. And it's so lightweight! As a web design major, I carry this thing around everywhere. My previous Dell brickbook nearly dislocated my shoulders. I'd recommend maybe getting a different color if you're worried about fingerprints, though, as they're quite noticeable. The only negative thing I have is the touch pad gestures. I thought that the "pinch" zoom in/zoom out features would be really handy but while browsing the web it would often zoom in and out on me without me doing much. But I just disabled that feature and it's great otherwise. :) It's a great buy, I'd recommend it to anyone.
It has now been 1 year that I've had it and the screen is going out. There's something wrong with the hinge and it makes the screen do very funny things and I have to jiggle it until the screen is clear. So, this is the worst laptop ever made. It's just kind of cheap as well. The plastic on it is awful.I got a great deal from Dell for a refurbished Inspiron 1750. There were no surprises, I knew what I was getting, and I've been very happy with it since. I wanted to balance the reviews for this, because 1 was a Dell customer service review, which has nothing to do with the product. It's capacity is way above what an average Internet/Word user would need, and the weight considering the size is lighter than most 17+ inch screens.

The delivery was fast honestly. The laptop was a second hand refurbished but according to seller in excellent condition. The first day the "C" key popped out of the laptop. The computer came with a load of spyware. It's extremely hard to connect to wifi network because It loses the network as soon as I move it. all my other devices move up and down my house just fine unless I disconnect them. I have to keep removing my router plug to reconnect to this computer. The keys are not very responsive. the zoom feature is good. the web cam is one of the best I've ever had. The size is very comfortable for me and it's a little bulky compare to most laptops in this class. I'm a student and it's not a bad laptop replacement
Features are just as described and it isn't too heavy as well. Fits perfectly in a book bag or backpack and is the right size as opposed to a 15" laptop which feels a little large. All USB ports,etc are working. I have no problems with it as of now.

We didnt get this laptop from amazon, but figured it would be nice to leave a review. My wife had a Toshiba laptop she bought in 2010 and after a few spills and damages from the kids the laptop fried in 2011. We took it to best buy where we got it and got this laptop as a replacement because of our protection plan. This laptop was actually more in replacement cost then her old laptop, but the store was past closing time by the time they were ringing us up and they just had a manager adjust the cost difference.This laptop runs great, and has lasted our kids. The screen is glass covered and protects it from damage. The aluminum is a nice touch, but more of a preference. The chicklet style keyboard makes for a more simplistic, less cramped, keyboard. I prefer full sized keyboards with number pads for gaming, but this laptop was nice because I didnt have to worry about hitting too many buttons at once when I was moving around too much in the game.
The laptop works to play skyrim, battlefield 3, and many other games that I want, while my wife has a very portable laptop to tote around to wherever. The battery is good, the build quality is great, and for the price and value its definitely a winner. We even spent just a little bit of cash to upgrade to 8gb ram, and makes this all the better.
I have used many machines, I build computers, repair them, etc. So I know what to look for in a good laptop, and this definitely set the bar for similar value laptops.
The bottom line is that this is a good machine, and a great value for the price. For anyone looking for a nice laptop that has enough power to do what you need, without feeling like you are carrying around a bag of bricks then this is the perfect laptop.

I just wanted to say that the samsung touchpad is overactive, producing undesired clicks and gestures. The touchpad driver offers no settings to adjust sensitivity or to automatically disable whilst typing. The only remedy seems to be manually inactivating the touchpad by pressing Fn-F10, and constantly toggling the feature is tedious.This pitfall certainly wasn't apparent while shopping for this notebook, and hopefully I'll remember to scrutinize it more closely in my next purchase.

First off, I've owned this laptop for 15 months, and it is a nice looking laptop, is fast, and offers plenty of space (640GB). There is another review here about the tempremental touchpad I agree 100%. My primary complaint is with Samsung, and with it's so called warranty. Six months after the purchase, my laptop got to the point where it needed to be plugged in 100% of the time. I would, at most, have 10 minutes of un-tethered laptop use. I called Samsung, thinking that it was a battery problem and asked for the battery to be replaced. I was told that this was not covered under warranty (which came as a shock to me), and they ran me through a diagnostic battery check with maybe added 10 minutes to my unplugged use, so the call to Samsung was useless. Battery life consistently got worse, so I decided to bite the bullet and just get a new battery. I had previously owned a Dell, so I thought popping in a new battery would be an easy and productive fix. Which brings me to the next topic it's an internal battery YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE BATTERY YOURSELF!!! Batteries plus can't do it either. Best Buy (where I bought the laptop) told me a new battery would run $120-$200 to change the battery, $100 or so for the battery, plus another $80-$100 to have someone "install" it. I paid over $800 for this laptop, and I think that A) Samsung should cover batteries under their warranties, and B) I should not be had this problem with a 6 month old laptop, and C) I should be able to change the battery myself. 14 months after buying the QX-410 from Best Buy, the battery died. I went back to Best Buy and was told that the warranty had run out and the only thing they could do was replace the mother board for $700 since the battery was soldered onto the motherboard. So instead of a $40 replacement battery, it's $700 for a motherboard. Bottom line: DON'T BUY THIS ONE! When it's going to cost $700 a year for a battery, nothing else matters.

I felt compelled to endorse the Acer Travelmate. I wanted a 13.3" Windows 7 laptop with 3rd gen Intel Processor and the Acer was the cheapest option I found by far. I couldn't find any reviews but I really like mine so far.:Pros:

Full-featuredits a business laptop but still has a webcam and USB 3 port
Fastlighting fast so far. Acer doesn't bog their pcs down with a bunch of crap and its faster to boot up than any computer I have used. That includes comparable Dell, Lenovo, and Toshiba models.
Inexpensivefound mine for just over $600. Couldn't find a comparable model from the other guys for less than $750.
Cons:
Not stylish in anywaysturdy black plastic, no keyboard backlighting
Screen resolutionis not as sharp as some of the newer guys. A step down from HD.
Lenovo Thinkpad T420 4178-6VU 14" Notebook (2.5 GHz Intel Core i5-2520M Processor, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB
This Laptop was delivered on January 7, 2012. Here are my first impressions.Configuration is average for the most of modern laptops but with some advantages:
Latest processor Sandy Bridge Core i5 2520M dual core 2.5 Ghz;
4Gb RAM (used only one slot, I'm going to install additional memory which shall provide me with max of 8 Gb of total memory 2x4Gb).
500 Gb/7200 rpm hard drive is fast enough and equipped with anti-shock feature.
This machine has 14" matte HD screen with resolution of 1600x900 which does not give any reflections at all! It tilts 180 degrees which is very handy.
It has Intel HD Graphics 3000 and nVidia Quadro NVS 4200M with 1 Gb dedicated memory, which is not the fastest but is still sufficient for day-to-day activity: work with MS Office applications, Web surfing, watching video and playing not too demanding games.
Three USB-2 drives + one e-SATA/USB are an advantage, more than enough, but it would be better to have USB-3 and HDMI port which in this case replaced with Display port which is not so widely used yet.
Spill proof keyboard is a beauty of this machine! I used to have laptops of different brands: Toshiba, Dell, Asus, Sony, the last one is Samsung (I still have it) but this one is the best in terms of the keyboard! Typing this keyboard is nothing but the pleasure. The only thing which requires to be got used to is the location of certain keys such as DELETE, two keys right above the arrow keys, which I found unnecessary they switch pages when surfing the internet current to previous and vice versa. I'd prefer to have HOME/END keys instead of them. Also FN and CTRL keys: ctrl key should be at the lowest left and fn key is between ctrl and windows keys, but you can swap them in BIOS.
Interesting feature is the track point did not have chance to use much but with a little practice I'm sure it can be more convenient than touchpad. Touch pad is normal, nothing to say bad or good. It is smaller than the same in Samsung QX 411 but you do not touch it accidentally when typing which was a pain with Samsung.
Another cute thing is a little flash light on top of the camera, which allows for typing in complete darkness. You can turn it on by pressing "function + page up" keys simultaneously; it justifies the strange placement of these keys, because it's extremely easy to find them in the dark.
Sound quality alright. Not best but not too bad. I found a bit inconvenient combined headphone/mic jack, had to buy special headphones with combined phones/mic connector.
Built in web camera is crisp and works flawlessly in fast networks.
Laptop has a fingerprint reader which switches on the machine. Nice feature.
I've bought configuration with 9 cell battery 55++. Had a chance to test it with everything on: Wi-Fi, connected wireless mouse, Bluetooth, LAN cable, in other words normal operating mode (no gaming, no films): Web browser running with at least four tabs open with running flash, MS Word, Excel, MS Outlook, Windows live mail + 15 minutes of YouTube video. And it lasted 7.5 hours, without watching video it would last the whole 8 hours! I think it is an excellent result.
As for the weight it's about 2 kg just a 100 gr heavier than Samsung QX 411 which has same 14" display and 6 cell battery with 3-4 hours life.
As for the build quality A+ a very solid reliable laptop the best I've used.
Design: Very practical yet beautiful, I like it's rugged style, it has everything I need but "no frills", no glossy finish, display hinges made of metal the lid does not shake. No gaps, no squeaks. I'd say that it's as good as mac book pro with one exception MBPs for show-offs and Thinkpads for pros.
Generally speaking I absolutely satisfied with my Lenovo ThinkPad T420.
January 2013 update: It has been 7 months and I haven't had any issues or blue-screens with this laptop. My only complaint is with the nvidia optimus technology: I usually have to manually tell the nvidia to run with games. If you don't game, then you won't be bothered by this. I've been a fan of Lenovo products for many years now. Lenovo has long been considered the GOLD standard for the Enterprise. And their latest ThinkPad T420 only continues this tradition.
Lenovo positions this laptop as being "rock solid durability". And from what I've seen that may even be somewhat of an understatement. They are built like a tank. Tough and rugged, and provide all day performance.
While the design of the ThinkPad has not really changed that much over the years, what is under the hood sure has kept up with the times and provides extremely fast performance. Mine is configured with a Core i5 2.5Ghz processor, 8 GB RAM and a 320 GB 7200rpm drive with the NVIDIA NVS 4200 upgraded video card. And the Windows Experience Rating in Windows 7 for this configuration is 5.9 which is a very high rating for a business class laptop.
The ThinkPad T420 has all the latest security features, including a fingerprint reader and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 chip. The TPM chip allows you to enable Bitlocker to protect the hard drive should your laptop be stolen and is a requirement of a lot of IT shops these days.
Battery life is even better than I expected. With the 9-cell battery I get over 7+ hours of usable battery life. And the 6-cell provides over 4 hours. I would recommend purchasing the bay battery which slides into the DVD slot.
I will agree with others that the button to open the DVD seems to be placed in the wrong spot since I tend to accidentally hit it all the time. It's more of an inconvenience than anything else.
And finally, the customer support at Lenovo has been poor in my experience. This is nothing new, and should not reflect on the review of any of their products, other than being noted.
Overall, this is one of the best laptops that I've ever purchased. This is not my first Lenovo and definitely will not be my last. If you're even considering a Lenovo, go ahead and do yourself a favor and buy it. You won't regret it.Bought my T420 a little over a year ago, and dragged it around SE Asia for 6 months with nary a problem... pretty rugged. I bought it for personal use, not just business. I thought about getting something a bit lighter weight but went for bullet-proof instead. This was my first Thinkpad so I have nothing to compare it to. I did upgrade mine with a solid-state flash drive for the OS and a secondary 500mb conventional hard drive for data and applications. Did have a few software wrinkles to iron out here and there but nothing critical. Screen was OK for me, not the greatest but it worked just fine. My wife and I watched movies on it while we were travelling & it wasn't too bad, except for the darker under-lighted scenes. Battery life was excellent. I'm still using and enjoying the laptop.Everygood laptop, Thinkpad quality. Very quiet, very stable.
It comes with a 9-cell battery, which is not clarified in the description.
Cons: Thinkpad puts too many useless software inside, which slows down the boot time. If you want, you can erase that and get new system by yourself.
MSI G Series GT60 2OD-026US 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)
I have had my GT60-2OD for about a week now. And it's been awesome. The keyboard is a pleasure to type on, the backlight and effects are very nice as well, and also as I read somewhere they did add a matte screen bezel for this generation so no distracting reflections while using your new laptop!I have it set on a coolermaster pad made for 17" laptops, given that the screen bezel is pretty wide. Also, the laptop fits nicely inside the pad when transporting it or for storage. The cooling pad is mostly for elevation, but it does help ease the airflow around the system. Without it the temps are a little higher due to the fan intake/exhaust vents recycling some of the hot air that bounces of the wooden table which is very insulating and gets quite hot. Perhaps glass or metal tables are easier on the temps. I haven't been using the cooling pad fans, as I don't really think they would make much of a difference as the laptop is ventilated by the sides and not bottom, but I'm sure they could improve the temps by a few degrees.
I did have some modifications done to the laptop. The thermal paste replaced with IC Diamond 24 by Gentech PC and I also had 3 mSSDs installed and set to RAID 0 to get a bigger SSD C: Drive. Also, as a bonus I got my RAM upgraded to 24 gigs.
With the turbo fan on (from the touch bar controls) and ambient temps around 24 C neither the CPU nor the GPU ever go much above 80 C with heavy gaming for hours at ultra settings on the ARMA 3 Alpha which runs at around 45 FPS with default ULTRA settings. A little reduction on draw distances and reduction of MSAA to 4x instead of 8x brought it up to 50 FPS. This with no overclocking or any kind of fiddling or any other settings changed. I'm sure that both the CPU and GPU are capable of a little more, but I haven't been there yet. The only that I did was to use the new feature MSI put in place, which uses some of the battery power to complement the supply when the 180W from the AC adapter aren't enough. It's called hybrid power and to use it you just need to open the program and press OK.
But if you keep your factory thermal paste job, you might get higher temps than I did and maybe slightly slower FPS because of the system protecting itself from overheating. Some users on forums reported that some of the paste jobs were sloppy and that MSI used too much pasted and that some systems were overheating. So you may want to look into that, specially if you think your system is running too hot.
Switching between GPU's is quite easy, to force Windows to use the Intel integrated GPU isntead of the 780m all the time you have to go to Nvidia Control panel/3d Settings/ and change your global settings to the integrated GPU and then restart the PC. This way your GPU light will remain white. Then, manually choose games and other programs that you want using the Nvidia GPU from that same menu. Light code: White=Intel HD4600 Orange=NVIDIA 780m
I haven't done thorough battery tests, but as with any laptop I'm sure it greatly depends on the use. Maybe a little over an hour of gaming and perhaps 10 hours with devices turned off, minimum brightness and just light browsing and some video watching using the integrated GPU only. These numbers are invented and not any real representation. I will try to get some accurate numbers after I do some testing.
There are some annoying quirks. Whenever I plug my G700 mouse (haven't tried any other mice) the computer auto disables the touchpad. And I have to go FN+F3 to enable again. The touchpad is really nice when typing and you need to do something with the cursor quickly, not so much if it's disabled. Apparently some of the Synaptics software does this and is somewhat complicated to fix as there is no toggle setting available natively. Maybe new drivers will have that feature, but with the ones you get out of the box your touchpad will be automatically disabled when another mouse input is connected. After searching on some forums someone pointed out to me this fix
"Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached" option in the synaptics control panel, open regedit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh, right click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it "DisableIntPDFeature". "Modify it's value to 33 in hexadecimal, or 51 in decimal to enable it to be default on." I haven't tried it yet myself. But I might try to do it soon.
I was unlucky enough to get a noisy fan when it is idling, it sound like toy car gears or perhaps a bad bearing. But a quick e-mail to my reseller and a few arrangements with MSI got me a new one coming in the mail. Which I will change myself. Since my warranty sticker had already been broken it's not an issue. Yet, you should contact MSI and ask about implications of breaking your warranty sticker. The consensus is that as long as you don't actually damage anything there shouldn't be a problem, yet I recommend contacting MSI yourself. You need to break it to upgrade your RAM with the 2 slots that are available upon opening the laptop (the other 2 are under the keyboard)
I have been thinking about doing two things to improve the aesthetics of the notebook. And that is
1)Removing the stickers, or at least just the Specs and MSI gaming series and maybe even the Sound Blaster one. The Intel and Nvidia one are fine. Since the handrest is made of aluminum, I would think that any glue residue would be easily removed with alcohol, lighter fluid or some other light solvent. This may decrease the resale value of the laptop later on, so it's a very personal call.
2)Coming from the MSI GX60, I always hated the shiny screen bezel, yet I loved the chrome MSI logo. In the GT60 I love the matte bezel but the painted MSI logo on the bezel looks very cheap and detracts from the High-end look of the notebook. I ordered a pair or metal stickers from China that I found on eaby. They will get here in about 20 days, so we'll see about that. I know that I might have to modify things a little bit. The foremost reason I think MSI chose to do this is since the bezel is matte, the stickers wouldn't play so nice with that surface. Let's see what happens. I got a 2 pack, so I have a little slack there.
As a footnote, I have been looking for good cases to keep and carry the laptop around. I haven't yet found a neoprene skin that would fit the laptop, it is bigger than a standard 15.6 incher and also thicker, but not as big as a 17 incher. I haven't yet found one but I'll keep looking. As for the case, after a lot of research I found a nice case that I think looks amazing, has a good price and offers good protection. The Condor 3-Way laptop case available here on Amazon seems to fit this laptop nicely. It seems to have a large enough pocket for the Power supply brick and has good padding and restraint all the way around. I'll post an update once I get it to see how well it fits.
To wrap it up, I read on the owners forum for this laptop over at notebookreview that to get the warranty from MSI you have to complete the online form and then print and mail something back to them (through snail mail) to get the full warranty. I haven't done it yet and I suggest you look up some information. I will try to keep this review updated with any new developments.
The laptop has great hardware for gaming, great sound, a good screen, fantastic keyboard. Scored 7700 on 3Dmark 11 P out of the box.
Mine has a bad issue with the fan, it sounds like a locust is stuck inside my comp. The thing rattles at idle and whines at load, like a bad bearing or similar to coil whine. The disc drive also only works sometimes. My ssd drive changes its free space available after every restart despite setting a fixed mem allocation. It will go from anywhere between 68gb and 76gb. HEAT is bad, the CPU idles at about 65C and load up to 100C unless I turn on turbo fan. The GPU goes up to 91C at load.
If I could get a refund I would but I'm stuck as they won't give one to me without paying 15% restocking. It was like pulling teeth to get a return label and my replacement isn't even guaranteed. If you buy this get it here. I hope Someday Amazon will put these places with terrible customer arrive out of business.

Battery life maybe is not very important for this type of laptops but here u go:
If im playing heavy games it takes 1h30m-2h but if you are doing other things 5 hours is an easy achievement. As long as it doesnt use the monsterous gpu
It is still better to use the charger while playing to get the best performance out of the gpu, i see a slight drop in frames rate without it.

The sound system is very good; very light weight, but several other facets about this computer have caused me to complain; most importantly the wireless internet connection is horrible. From day one we had problem with the download speed, we did speed test and got only .07 mbps, then try two other old laptops at the same spot and got about 9.0 mbps. We sent it to be repaired .three times in one month period, wireless card replaced, updated, re imaged and so forth, and they sent it back and say it is fixed, but it is not. We got several computer geeks in the family look at it they all believe the wireless card and etc. is poorly designed. in fact I have a satellite A505 as well that had the wireless problem but not as bad as this one, we are not happy with it and it is more than two months past from purchasing date, but more than a month was in the repair facility. However they cannot fix it and they will not give us a refund. We are in process of taking them to Court. For more information please see the video on you tube.
One drawback, however, is the keyboard. A person must hit the keys directly in the middle; hitting the keys on the sides will not register letters when writing.
Because the computer is great otherwise, I invested in a portable keyboard to attach to my computer.

Almost didn't purchase based on poor reviews--for the most part I pay a lot of attention to purchaser reviews.Didn't here because I have always had good experience with Toshiba products & this one offered a great deal for an excellent price--I7 Q4 chip, 8G mem, 1tb hd, dedicated graphics, etc.
The product exceeds my expectations. Very fast, great keyboard, etc. Yup, took me a couple of hours to figure out Windows 8 but what else is new?

I'd shopped around for several months and narrowed it down to this and another model that cost $400 more... for the same specs. The other model, you were literally paying for the manufacturer's name. I've owned two other Toshibas and both lasted me over four years each, so I'm pretty confident in the Toshiba brand.This thing has a better GPU than the two cards I have Crossfired in my desktop and handles everything I throw at it. (Note: I did upgrade the RAM to 12 gigs; it comes with 8 gigs)
I'm a digital artist and 3D modeler, and it handles 3DSMax, Maya, Photoshop CS5 Extended, Poser Pro 2012 and Lux Render with graphics tablet input like a champ. Doesn't choke at all. So if you're a gamer, you can buy with confidence knowing this thing will run them with ease (I'm a gamer, but bought this specifically for art and don't have any games loaded on it at the moment. But my desktop occasionally slows down on high poly renders that this laptop renders with ease yet the same desktop can run most games on very high or ultra settings, so that that as a good recommendation).
Another great point is this thing comes out of the box ready to play blurays. Previous models I've owned require you to purchase software in order to view blurays even though there's a bluray combo drive; Toshiba includes the bluray software. Loaded up Game of Thrones Season 2 bluray and it started playing immediately with no problems...and looked stunning on that 17.3 inch screen (the laptop is about 16.3 inches wide, so it'll fit in most bags that will hold a 17 inch laptop). Some have said the keys are tough to type on, but that hasn't been my experience--I've found them to be great and far less "clacky" than any I've had yet. They touchpad can be a bit persnickety though, so I advise a mouse.
Toshiba includes a free copy of Windows 8 for dummies once you register, but do yourself a favor and do a websearch for how to get your Windows 7 start menu back. Windows 8 looks to be a truly wonderful OS for touch screens, but it is pure garbage for standard non-touch systems. A quick web search found me a great program to get rid of that awful touch screen garbage and give me a usable desktop. One star docked for preloading that abomination of an OS on a non-touchscreen and forcing users to figure a way around it to make their computers usable.

This is hands down the worst brand of Computers (Laptops, Netbooks, etc.) that you could possibly buy.Used for a little less than 9 months and the hard drive puked losing ALL of my important data as its a work computer.
I owned a Toshiba Netbook that I used for school and it constantly had a "Processor Overtemp" error and took Toshiba 2 tries to repair the problem (had to go without it for 3 weeks each time i sent it in for repair). What a piece of junk, worst $399 I ever spent on a Laptop.
Now I have this L755-S5256 Toshiba Laptop and the Hard Drive is dead. I have owned, at Home, an Asus F3JP Laptop for 6 years and has been the best computer I have EVER owned.
No hardware failures, no crashes, works absolutely flawless (but that was a $1300 laptop in 2006).
Even though the hardware specs on this Toshiba are better than my asus, it's a cheaply made piece of junk with poor quality of materials.
It's too bad other manufacturers can't make decent long-lasting computers too.
I will never buy another Toshiba product again. Period!
Did I mention Toshiba computers are garbage?
