Promo HP Compaq 4310S, CORE2 Duo T6570 Cpu, 13.3 HD Panel, DVD+/-rw, 320GB Hard

Promo HP Compaq 4310S, CORE2 Duo T6570 Cpu, 13.3 HD Panel, DVD+/-rw, 320GB HardEven tho' I didn't purchase this notebook from Amazon (I got it from the HP refurbished list), thought I'd write a review. I really like this notebook... it does what I want. I was looking for a notebook in the 12 14 inch screen display range. I've had larger displays and with the mobility I need, they tend to be too bulky for travel. Had looked at netbooks and my daughter had one she liked, but I wanted something with a bit more processing power and larger display.

I had looked at various Acer, Asus, and Toshiba models. The reviews on this site rated these models as good and seriously considered them, but anyone who had to deal with the tech support did not have good comments. I work for a business that is an HP reseller and felt that if I had trouble with this laptop, I could work through the tech support much easier. I never think of HP notebooks as being on the cutting edge of "cool" laptops, but they are solid and do what I want. I run Office, web browsing, web site upkeep, Photoshop elements, and VMware workstation.

The first thing I did was put Windows 7 on it and it runs great. Battery life is average. Nothing great, but I generally plug in the notebook when using it. It feels solid when I pick it up and is not a fingerprint magnet. Sound quality is average certainly better than some of the Toshiba models. The touch LED button to turn sound on and off doesn't work well I usually have to turn it off from the system tray. Not a big deal, but it is a bit irritating. The LED for the wireless works fine. And finally, on my notebook, the case is a burnished red color which is kind of fun.

I've only had it a couple weeks, so will update if I have problems.

HP is agood product,,,but with working in this laptop,i feel the display has NOT good support ,it moves when u work .

Toshiba Portege Z835-P372, 13 inch ultrabook pc, ultrathin notebook, lightweight, excellent portabi

Toshiba Portege Z835-P372, 13 inch ultrabook pc, ultrathin notebook, lightweight, excellent portabilityFirst off I would just like to say that I have spent a lot of time researching laptops for school. I was stuck in between wanting to get a top of the line gaming laptop or an ultrabook that I could take to classes and for general utility. I went with this model because I really liked the other reviews I had read about it. I wanted something with 6 gigs of ram because I felt like 4 gigs was becoming outdated and didn't feel like buying something obsolete. I can easily confirm that this laptop is one of the best investments I've made for a computer in years. Out of the box you look at the laptop and in your head you kind of get an idea of how heavy something is by looking at it right? Well you will be totally blown away when you pick up this laptop. It's so incredibly light it doesn't even make sense. I boot it up and I'm already on my desktop messing around with programs. I would highly recommend this ultrabook to anyone who needs something that's portable, yet extremely powerful. Just as a side note, this ultrabook will run games pretty easily. I play World of Warcraft and it seems to run just fine on this ultrabook. Don't let it's small size and weight make you think this pc doesn't pack enough power to do pretty much anything you would need. It's also very quiet, to the point of where I can't even hear it over the central air in my house when it's running. One thing that's new for me is the keyboard. While very responsive the keys do not press down very much and as someone who has been using a gaming keyboard for years where the keys press down a good bit it takes some getting used to. After a while however, the keyboard feels really good when typing. Another cool feature that I really liked was the "fn" key. When pressed it brings up a little diagram on the top of the screen that shows you what happens when you press the other buttons with the fn key pressed down. Overall I would highly recommend this ultrabook.

I bought one of these computers and I quickly had a series of three complete failures. Each failure was different. Each iteration of tech support had the technician unable to fix it without a one to two week part turnaround. After three failures I am now fighting with an completely calloused Toshia customer support staff. I will spare you the details, but it looks like they will give me some of my money back. I bought a Dell Ultrabook as a replacement. No worries with them as usual.

Toshiba is a consumer electronics company. They have no idea what they are doing with computer support. If you want a TV, they are probably a fine vendor. With computers, not so much.

As i was in a conference overseas and my Toshiba got broken I thought I could buy a Toshiba portege from Amazon and receive it from a collegue who would join me for presentation few days later flying fm LAX. I placed Toshiba order on 23rd as expedited shipment and paid extra for1-3 bus.days delivery. The order was shipped from a Missouri shop called Kaikai Jakestore on 25th and from what we could track at the same day it arrived to Kansas on 25th. From there on neither this store nor Fedex have published any info about the delivery, except an estimation of 28th. I tried to express my urgency and my right to receive it latest on 27th as it was shown on amazon site before the payment. Fedex just lied all the way saying that they have processed this situation to their related department and Kaikai Jakestore never answering even once their customer service line, just started to send mails of indifference i.e proposing a full refund, not charging expetied shipment until they finaly admit that they made a mistake by choosing FEDEX ground shipment i.e a truck driving all the way fm Kansas to Oxnard CA. My collegue had waited until 3 pm. on 28th -which was the worse scenario by the wayat home despite having his flight at 18.15 and 1 hr. drive before. Meanwhile there was an email chain of 20 but none reaching to a solution, trying to find the missing mysterious Toshiba.a

I felt never been so much used and stressed after paying around 1000 usd. So Thanks Amazon, thanks Kaikai Jakestore and thanks FEDEX for not even giving us the info of my extra valuable package. I hope it gets lost from this point as I would need an extra evidence of your insincerity about customer care and you even feel little more ashamed on that poor service.

hope that I will never have to shop fm amazon again and do not advice anyone who is in critical expectation to do so either. Shame on you.

Apple MC372LL/A MacBook Pro 15-inch Laptop (OLD VERSION)

Apple MC372LL/A MacBook Pro 15-inch LaptopHopefully this video will help communicate how great this machine is.

It isn't without it's issues, but great no less.

This particular MBP is excellent. I use a Quadcore PC for graphic intensive work and picked up one of these to help with development work webpages and research. This laptop blows away my Windows Quadcore, totally! It is so speedy. Startup in about 30 seconds, shutdown in 2-4 seconds, resume from sleep in 0-2 seconds. Applications open in seconds and there are no lags, hiccups or awkward moments when you wonder whether your computer is out for tea. OS X is solid with lots of innovations such as quicklook which save heaps of time. PDF files can be viewed instantly. Images can be multi-selected and viewed swiftly or in slideshow mode. Wonderful zooming. With Windows laptops a wireless mouse is an absolute must. I bought a Logitech desktop set in anticipation for using with the MBP, but I use the touchpad 90% of the time. It's so useable and responsive. The screen is gorgeous yummy good. I like how the Mac OS is so simple and easy to use, plus there are some really good freeware apps to improve things.

Here are a few.

PathFinder not free tabbed Finder with dual panels. A Must!

There's no reason to buy a Windows laptop when Macs are this good.

Can't recommend this one enough. In terms of heat, I use my own workaround just in case even though I haven't noticed it get hot at all. I chopped up an eraser into 1 cm segments and have placed one at each corner. This 1 cm gap ensures the laptop keeps cool, plus the rubber eraser won't let the laptop slip from side to side. I was going to buy a Rain MBP stand but the erasers seem to do the trick.

I don't play games on my MBP. Laptops, be they Windows or Apples, are not made for playing graphics intensive games. Slim bodies aren't able to cope. Eventually the heat will destroy the internal components. I have been tempted to play Grid on my MBP but just to see the stunning level of detail obtainable. I will leave on Grid just to demo for 5 minutes every 6 months or so. But the sensible rule is No intensive games.

Older games should be ok. But it doesn't make sense to spend so much money on such a machine and then waste it on games.

My only gripe is that MBP's should come with video adapters included in the box, or a coupon so buyers can pick them up free from a local istore.

The MacBook expensive, no HDMI, could use two more usb outlets, but using it is another story. It just kicks butt!!!! Fast, beautiful graphics, and high-octane preformance. Set-up was easy, and the it sort of grows on you because of the ease of operation. And mind you, this is from someone who until recently never used a Mac at all. I still use a PC ( I also have a Samsung N-150 Netbook), but I find myself using the Mac more often. If you can afford it, GET IT.

PS: Get the AppleCare Protection Plan if you can.

Been running my new MacBook Pro for about 4 weeks now and it's handled just about anything I've thrown at it. Primarily used for web development and digital photography, there's very few hiccups found on this machine. Apple's software, as always, is solid and full featured, but not necessarily deep with customization.

Pros:

+Incredibly slim and light

+Beautiful screen

+Games modestly

+Works right out of the box with no junkware

Cons:

Gets INCREDIBLY hot, it will burn you if you game on your lap

For the hardware it's pricey, but you pay for the entire package

I've been waiting for an eternity (feels like it anyway) to get a laptop. I'm glad it waited, this one is great. So far, I have no complaints. The battery holds up well, it's built very solidly, and runs fast.

Yes, the screen is glossy, but I haven't found it to be annoying in the slightest.

Yes, it gets warm after using it for a while, but not too bad, and the aluminum body seems to be good at dissipating the heat.

And yes, I was stressed out about spending so much, but now that it's all over, I zero regrets.

I love it.

Dell D600 Laptop (1.6ghz, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW)

Dell D600 LaptopThis is a great laptop for the price. It functions beautifully for basic use (school, work, surfing the web, etc.). I have had absolutely no trouble with mine, and would highly recommend this product to everyday users.

I've seen a couple of bad reviews simply because users purchased this computer with the intent to make it their "gaming" computer, and then were disappointed with the outcome. Check the specs and your game requirements first. If you truly want a gaming computer, you probably shouldn't be looking at Laptops in the first place.

It's a great computer at a reasonable price. If you just need something for work, school, and surfing the web, it's perfect.

This laptop is so awesome. I've always had a desktop, so I'm excited that I was able to purchase a laptop at such an inexpensive price. First of all, it's advertised as having 512MB RAM and a 40GB hard drive. Well, I got 1G of RAM and a 60 GB hard drive. Secondly, it works so well, as if it's new. And thirdly, for this to have been a refurbished computer, it looks good with very little to no scratches. Several people's comments have not been to pleasing, but I would blame the seller, not the laptop. I didn't purchase the cheapest one. I read all of the sellers' comments and chose the one I thought would give me an honest buy. I am very happy with my purchase.

I adore mine.

I'm not a gamer or anything of the sort, I just use mine for internet purposes and college, and it's perfect. It lags a bit, which is annoying, but should be expected with the low price. Overall, I like it a lot.

I bought two computers on the same day from two different sellers, one was from StarTech and the other from Alpha. Both computers were described identically with one exception; the one from Alpha advertised the unit included MicroSoft Pro. So I paid more for that unit from Alpha. I received the unit from StarTech and it was great, plugged it in, started right up and looks and works like new. A week later I received the one from Alpha, with paperwork enclosed describing some other computer without internet card or any programs installed as advertised not to mention the unit appeared to have been in a war zone physically, plugged it in and it wouldn't work. Contacted the seller who immediately offered to sell me an internet card to make the unit work and did not acknowledge the missing programs or the misleading information in the advertisement. I took the unit to a REAL Dell tech who put a wireless card in the unit and found the unit defective. I immediately notified the seller that I believe I must have received the wrong unit by accident that I wanted a good one and I would return this one at my own expense, which I did. The seller was rude, called me a liar and went as far to send emails threatening to keep me from getting a refund for the defective unit. I would NEVER do business with this seller again, his ego is bigger than his brain and he has no people skills. I did receive my refund, thanks to Amazon, I am out the cost of the Dell service call and expense to ship and insure the defective unit, but that is a small price to pay to break all ties with a seller like this one. I am corresponding with Dell right now about this experience.

Dell Inspiron i14R5-5743sLV 14-Inch Laptop

Dell Inspiron i14R5-5743sLV 14-Inch LaptopI bought this new laptop two weeks ago to replace my previous Dell. So far, it is more than what I expected.

Pros:

Super fast processor. Much much faster than the old 1st gen i5.

Solid build.

Fans are very quiet and this machine almost never feels warm even after watching a movie.

Fantastic keyboard.

Very nice sound quality. Sound is better in my headphones than my iPod.

Perfect size.

Cons:

Battery life is only ~ 3-4 hours.

A little heavier than current popular ultrabook, though this isn't a big issue.

Overall, I'd say this computer is a great purchase for any student, especially for the price.

I purchased this laptop ten days ago. So far so good! I have used 15R before, I like it! But this time I need something smaller, this 14R did not dispoint me. And Dell is always good for your money!

This laptop is used really for online social media and research. The one thing that is a problem consistently is video downloading, it just never works properly. Window 8 is a royal pain and not at all user friendly to someone who has used windows for the last 20+ years. I don't need my laptop to anticipate my needs, I am perfectly cabable of asking for what I want.

Samsung Series 3 NP300E5C-A09US 15.6-Inch LaptopI guess that I am responding to the person who was disappointed with his/her computers wifi speed, as a rule it is the wifi service itself and not the computer that is to blame for such problemsyou might check there. No problems with Windows 8[I actually like it better than Windows 7] and really am pleased with the quality and design of the Samsung keyboard vs. Gateway. This was a high school graduation gift for my Grand-daughter. Yes, it comes with Windows 8 and some junk applications. However, Samsung did not includes nearly as many useless apps as most manufacturers.

I will admit that I have become a Windows 8 fan. Just as I had previously done on my ASUS N56VJ, also from Amazon, I modified the interface so that the "Desktop" looks exactly as if you were still running Windows 7. But, you also still have the Windows 8 "Start" interface available making it easy to switch over and use apps more suited for that interface.

Since my PC's are are i7s with 16gb of ram, it did seem a bit slow. However, to most PC users, this machine will probably feel very fast.

As with most Samsung products, the build is excellent and feels very sturdy. Since my Grand-daughter is going away to the University of South Florida, this was an important part of my decision to buy this unit. Obviously, it will be carried to a bunch of places. So, as a precaution, I installed LoJack . . . rather be safe than sorry.

This laptop is also very aesthetically pleasing. It is a cool looking laptop. I almost wanted to keep it. My Grand-daughter loves it and I would recommend to anyone looking for a gift for a young person. Actually, I would recommend it to any one wanting a good buy in a reliable laptop.

HP 2000-2a10nr 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black)

HP 2000-2a10nr 15.6-Inch LaptopLike I've said this is the first actual laptop I've ever owned just for me! Of course I've used a few in my day but this one's all mine. Now I will quickly go into pros and cons and then sum it up with what I thought overall from the 3 or so days I've owned it.

PROS**

~Decent speed for surfing the internet and overall meets my needs

~Quick for downloading things (I haven't tried very huge files yet)

~Attractive laptop that looks more expensive than it was

~Plays movies with no fuss

~Easy set up

~Beautiful screen that's pleasant to look at when surfing and wonderful to experience while watching a movie in WMP. Ex: I was watching Spider-Man 3 yesterday and things look excellent.

~Youcam is simple AND addictive to use.

~Can use Skype (haven't yet but will when my aunt wants to)

~For you music heads like me the laptop has play/stop, skip forward, skip back, volume up, volume down and mute buttons so you don't need to go into iTunes or Spotify to adjust things.

~Comes with 2 months worth of Norton Anti-virus program free of charge (after it expires you can register with them for a price). Some say this is far from the best Anti-virus program though so maybe it's a con and when you get the computer you can uninstall it.

CONS**

-Strong glare on screen from certain angles when there is any amount of light coming in through the window

-The computer itself is a smudge-magnet. Fingerprints abound.

-While the computer is pretty fast there are occasions when the loading isn't as fast as you think it should be

-The max sound when watching movies/listening to music is slightly inadequate and you will require speakers to get a better volume. The reason for this is probably because the speakers are located at the bottom of the laptop which I found strange.

-Takes *up to* around a minute before the Wi-Fi connection is found. Most of the time it takes a bit less though.

-Webcam takes just OK pictures that are sorta grainy at times. What can you expect from most laptop computers though?

-The option to adjust the lighting sometimes does not work whether the power supply is plugged in or not. I don't know what that's all about.

Overall, this is a pretty good computer and made for a fine purchase. We got it for just over 400 bones (with everything like tax included) and it fulfills all my basic needs. My old Dell desktop (while good while it lasted over the past 9 years) has been slow as crap for the past few years and using it was complete torture. This one has much improved speed in every way and lets me use all the basic apps like Spotify and Last.fm for my music needs. iTunes loads quickly and applying my own cover art for each album happens in 2-3 seconds if it doesn't happen instantly! At worst my old computer could take up to a minute or so to load this stuff. If you haven't noticed I'm a music head so if these things matter to you then by all means get this. It was easy to set up and is just fun to play around with. May I mention again that it's such a beautiful laptop? It has a nice coat and a shine like no other. This computer makes me feel like a professional! The buttons are very light to the touch. It has a 15.6 inch screen so it has a nice, big view. But it's also very light. I used it without the power two or three times and I must say that it definitely doesn't last 5 hours without the power cord connected. I usually have the brightness on nearly as high as it goes (who actually uses this with the light extremely dim?) so I'm sure it would last longer with less power being used. But I still don't think that it will last a full 5 hours.

(10/20/12) Just now I noticed it said it was going to last 7 hours and some odd minutes. About 15-20 minutes later it says 5 hours and some minutes. So yeah. Not gonna happen.

(10/28/12) After almost 3 weeks of owning it I can't believe by having 2 or 3 programs open that the CPU slows things down and stuff. The absolute no go here and reason I'm knocking its score down from a 4 to a 3.75 is because when I type on Internet Explorer sometimes the computer has to play catch up. On other occasions I type a letter and it doesn't even compute. In that sense it's a big waste of time and no one should go through this with a new computer!!

(11/1/12) It's a new month and I just want to say overall if I had the chance to buy a computer all over again, I wouldn't pick this one. About an hour ago Norton said that Internet Explorer was using too much of the CPU and pretty much ever since, typing successfully has become somewhat of a chore. I have to keep backspacing because not all the button presses are going through. :/ I type like 60 wpm. Shouldn't be too hard to compute. I deducted the score from a 3.75 to a 3.5 and I think that's where it will stay unless the computer blows up or something.

(11/17/12) The slowdown problem has been completely cured now that I don't use Internet Explorer anymore. I'm getting rid of the icon in a minute and now will only use Safari or Google Chrome. I swear IE was causing me hell when I typed most of the time. All the problems vanished though and I'm elated/relieved! =) I'm upping the score a little beyond what it was to begin with (from a 4.3 to a 4.4).

Thanks for reading. =) And long story short: DON'T USE INTERNET EXPLORER WITH THIS! You MIGHT have PROBLEMS! So basically I recommend using Internet Explorer to get Safari, Google Chrome or your favorite web browser and then not even using IE. It sucks!

4.4 stars.

Sure there are better laptops out there, but not at this price. I'm your average laptop user and was looking for a product that is both reliable without a lot of "bells and whistles", HP offers this and more. Only down side is the high gloss case. While the case is beautiful, it is a finger print magnet. Aside from that, which is really no big deal, I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for quality from a reputable manufacturer without breaking the bank.

Pros: Almost every thing.

Cons: Medium Hard Drive and Glossy housing. This is a fingerprint magnet. Cpu is dual-core but sometimes barely speed like mono-core!

However i will buy another one for a family gift!!

After much deliberation, I finally decided which laptop to buy, and this HP was a great choice, as soon as i turned it on it connected to the internet which was fantastic! I didn't like that Norton was already installed though, I found it a bit annoying and deleted it and installed ESET virus protection instead. Windows 7 is so cool :-) I love it! The laptop is sturdy and everything it said it would be, and pretty!
