HP G7-1075DX Pavilion Laptop / AMD Phenom II Processor / 17.3" LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 5

HP G7-1075DX Pavilion Laptop / AMD Phenom II Processor / 17.3' LED HD Display / 4GB DDR3 Memory / 500GB Hard Drive / Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive / Windows 7 Home Premium Edition operating system - PewterI bought this laptop about a month ago to replace my old outdated HP. (it had a long full life but alas its dead now RIP). As always I was looking for the biggest bang for the buck and this one seemed to be a great value. I caught it on sale for $549, and in that range this one had the best specs = dual core AMD processors 2.6gh speed, 500GB harddrive, 4 gigs of RAM, and a must have for me, a dedicated video card. (the ATI Radeon HD4250 is half a gig) not the best money can buy, but better than what I had before. It comes with a built in webcam and mic, and a big bright 17.3" led screen. That was supprising, as there were smaller ones not as powerfull that cost much more. Its also supprisingly light to be so large, my older 15" one weighed more.

I have been very happy with it so far, it is lightning fast, and I love the new Windows7 OS, its even easier to use than the old XP. note to those that do not know, Windows VISTA is horrid do not buy a PC that comes with that!! XP was great when it was new but is rapidly becomeing outdated, so Windows7 is the one to get today At first I was a bit dissapointed with the sound quality, but I eventualy found there was a graphic equalizer built in that was preset as a flatline, once I tweeked up the highs and lows I was completely satisfied with the sound as well. I think this is a great laptop for most users, I would recomend this model to all all but hardcore gamers. The gamers may have to spend a bit more money for something with a full gig (or more) video card. Other than that I think anyone would be happy with its preformance. I think the HP G7-1075 is a great value.

I did see one negative review here on this model. Sadly everybody makes a lemon once in a while, and I hope the buyer finally got it replaced or refunded. I feel like his experience was the exeption rather than the rule. I've had several HP computers and really never had a problem with any of them.

I've had this laptop for a couple of months now. The primary reason I go it for the screen as I wanted something good to edit photos on the go.

It is very fast, the screen is very good but very reflective. The video card can't handle video intensive games in the least but it is perfectly fine for older games or playing movies. The DVD drive is a basic model, nothing special. The speakers are much better than the average laptop and the touchpad works well. It has a large keyboard and there is plenty of room to rest my arms as I type. It doesn't get very hot on your lap even when playing games. It doesn't have a blue tooth adapter and that would have been nice. It is very light for a 17" laptop and has 4gig of ram but I plan to upgrade to 8gig when I get a chance.

It works just fine with Photoshop CS4.

The battery life is average. I would say that on regular usage (surfing the web, using MS Office) it will last like 3 hours. Considering this is a 17" display I think this is good.

Because of its size I did have a hard time finding a case I liked as there are not many good laptop cases for 17" models.

Overall it is a great value but search for the best prices. I got mine on special.

Update:

I did upgrade the memory to 8Gig of ram fro under $50.00 so that was good. I also calibrated the screen with a color calibration device, (Xrite CMUNDIS ColorMunki Display). The colors are now great but the viewing angles are narrow (like more laptops these days) so colors shift a lot if I move my head or the laptop.

I ran a few benchmarks and found the CPU speed very close to my Intel Core Two Duo at the same speed.

My favotite laptop

Bought one of these to replace my stolen Asus K50ij (which was great). It was a flat-out lemon right out of the box improperly installed RAM. HP tech support was shockingly bad after a 1 hour wait they had me re-install the RAM over the phone, then when that didn't work they wanted me to send it in for repair and wait 2 weeks. So I would have paid full price to leave Best Buy with the equivalent of a factory refurbished model that I can't use for weeks? F*** off HP. Luckily, Best Buy refunded me without any major hassle. Oh, and when looking into a replacement, I found out that HPs failure rate for new laptops within the first 2 years of use is about 25% (so is Dells by the way). No surprise there.
