Pros:
6GB of DIMM memory
USB 3.0 ports
HDMI output to connect to an HDTV
low fan noise, vents are on the side/rear (not on the bottom of the case)
numeric keypad to the right of the keyboard
built-in memory card reader
Cons:
mediocre TN screen has low contrast ratio, dim in bright light
4 cell battery (provides less life when unplugged than 6 cell batteries)
tiny built-in speakers (limited bass)
no LEDs on the ethernet NIC (for link/data)
webcam resolution is noisy/grainy in low light
integrated HD 4000 graphics (adequate but low performance)
Metro UI for Windows 8
I won't bash Win8 here but note that Dell also offers a touch-screen model, which might be a better choice if you intend to run Windows 8. This is a decent basic laptop for non-gamers. The integrated graphics is fine for web browsing or viewing a movie, but don't expect high 3D frame rates for fast paced games. Since the body/case is plastic, you can flex/deform the lid/screen and DVD tray without much pressure. With a bit of care, this laptop should work reliably for home computing users. The camera has good resolution and a good processing speed and the volume is much better than my previous laptop by a different mfg. Also, it's much lighter than I expected.
It took me some time to get used to Win 8. I found a good book for Windows 8: Windows 8 Made Easy on Amazon.com.
I would say it's a really good computer at its price point.

This is just a great notebook...lots of storage, fast, reliable. Not as wild about Windows 8, but that has nothing to do with Dell. I really have no complaints at all about this notebook.Just takes a little time learn this one; nothing like Windows XP, or 98; Geezzz, I must be getting old; just keep working at it..; you will learn to "like"....Want Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-9762BLK 15.6-Inch Laptop (Black Matte with Textured Finish) Discount?
