Acer Aspire 7738G-6006 17.3-Inch Notebook PC

Acer Aspire 7738G-6006 17.3-Inch Notebook PCThe laptop looks very nice, doesn`t look like a cheap made to me and it's almost perfect.

1.Fingerprint doesn`t work very good. You will have to slide your finger at least 10 times so it recognizes you.

2.Somehow the fingerprint is activating while you're using the touchpad and the touchpad buttons. Sometimes very often, which is annoying.

3.The laptop speakers very often are making bad noise, even if it's not that high(50% volume for example)

4.I don`t know if it is because of the laptop or the OS(which is the original one it came with), but sometimes it just freezes, and you have to force it to shut down and turn on again. Never happened while playing games, so I think its because of the OS. Not very sure about this one.

For the price I bought this product I am still very satisfied, all other features are fine. The graphics are great(better than expected), CPU is working great(doesn`t overheat), sound quality is really good(on headphones and/or digital sound system) and etc.

This laptops just great for all my entertainment needs.

I can play almost any game and the 17.3 inch screen is simply amazing.

I recently purchased an imac 27" quad core to do some video editing only to realize I couldn't burn 3 hours on a SD-DVD 4.7 Disc. When I tried to use Roxio's Apple Version of Toast and Popcorn I could; but, they would only burn the videos and drop all of my formatting. So, I was really feeling frustrated.

This is where the Acer comes in. I talked to some computer experts (and did my own research) and they understood my pain and frustrations and recommended that I get back into a windos environment to do the video editing. They recommended this machine because of the space, graphics, sound, and overall good looks.

While I have not used a laptop before let me say I like this one because of the construction (it doesn't look cheaply made), price, and what I needed to do some video editing. Having already put more money into the Apple imac than I wanted to I just purchased this machine and only added Roxio Creator 2010 Pro edition. I've added an external speaker to boost the sound a bit and I am now doing my video editing with little are no trouble and burning how much I want on a disc.

The overall weight of the machine is just right. It is network ready for those who travel and need wireless. The screen has one of the richest colors that I've seen on any computer screen well next to the apple. The keys have the right feel to them considering they're compact and the feel is extra nice when keying.

Operating Roxio with Windows 7 has not been any problem at all. The only critical down load I needed was an update for my video capture device so that it is recognized by window 7. I did add the virus software bitdefender(?). Transferring music either by flash drive or disc is a breeze as well. The speaker sound really nice; however, I prefer to use an external speaker. The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T66002.20GHz is fast and really handles things well. This is the amount of space I have: 4GB (2/2) DDR3 1066 SDRAM /320GB SATA hard drive although I have only 225gb free. Roxio is a rather huge program. I haven't worked with this much; but, the Fingerprint reader built-in is a nice touch.

I've mention that speakers. This is the only con that I have as that they don't blast you out of the room. However, I am glad I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M Graphics graphics card so I would expect a sacrifice somewhere.

Once again, I plan on using this for video editing; but, hor those that travel and need a laptop for video presentations as well as wireless and space to hold things this is it. Acer has been around for awhile from what I've been told so I'm glad I took the plunge.

This Acer laptop is the second one I've had and as the first one (6930G series) it provides a huge set of features for the price: bright and hi-res scree, acceptable processor speed and most important, an acceptable GFX card. Both laptops are used for designing in 3D Architectural programs, as like as light work in 3DS, and light gaming. The bigger screen of the 17.3" really adds to this role, as it provides a huge improvement over the widescreen 15.6-16" panels with just 768p being glossy is not a great feature, but most of the competitors have similar or worse panels (believe it or not) selling for a lot more $...

Unfortunately, tho my 6930G running vista had no stability problems, this laptop did crash in several occasions. I really cannot say if there is a hardware problem or a problem specifically related with this laptop running Win 7...i'm really tempted to return it, tho i will miss it...

EDIT: like many other laptops with early versions of Windows 7, this machine will become way more stable once you do a clean install of Win 7

HP ENVY 14-2020NR 14.5-Inch Notebook (Silver)

HP ENVY 14-2020NR 14.5-Inch NotebookAfter using this laptop for 2 weeks, I am totaly satisfied with it. The new hp envy sb version has all aluminum chassis and feels vry solid. Windows boots up in 18 seconds. Running program as fast as average desktop. Here is some feedback:

The screen: some one may complain this laptop never comes with radiance display anymore. Actually, the bright view screen is great, and it's even brighter and has more vibrate color than my wife's macbook pro.

The touchpad: This sandy bridge refresh version has a nearly as good as macbook touchpad. Multigesture, two finger scroll and pinch zoom all work smoothly. Just remember don't update the synaptics drive. New driver doesn't support double-tab to turn off touchpad feature.

Battery life: If you set the brightness to 60%, and just normal use, the out of box battery lasts about 5 hours. If you turn off the bluetooth and wifi, battery should last even longer.

Finally the noise: Normal using won't produce much noise. You need to put your ear at the air vents to hear it. It does has some noise when playing games, but tolerable.

Purchased from amazon, and happy to deal with them.

The Envy 14 has a lot going for it. It's a great size, has a backlit keyboard that's a pleasure to type on, and is built very well. Further, HP has released a BIOS update to address the issue of 3D applications and games not working properly with AMD's automatic graphic switching. The solution essentially reverts back to manual switching where the user has control of which graphics processing unit (GPU) he or she wants to use. It can also be set up to run on the high-performance AMD Radeon dedicated GPU (dGPU) when the machine is plugged in and switch over to the power-saving Intel integrated GPU (iGPU) when running on battery. This is basically how graphic switching works on older Envy 14 notebooks (model number 14-1xxx).

Regrettably, I had to send this notebook back for a pair of deal-breaking issues. First and foremost, the trackpad (or clickpad as it's dubbed by HP and part supplier Synaptics), is awful. HP has tried to emulate the Apple MacBook Pro in this area, and having previously owned a MBP, the Envy fails miserably. After trying many different drivers and settings, I simply could not get the trackpad to perform and respond smoothly and predictably. The final annoyance is the orange light that activates whenever you disable the pad, either on its own or by plugging in a USB mouse.

The second major problem is the screen itself. The resolution of 1366x768 isn't a huge issue for me, but at one point, HP did offer the Envy 14 with a high-resolution (1600x900) "Radiance" display that was of excellent quality and color reproduction. The screen in the current model, though not the worst I've ever seen, is sub-standard for something that's marketed as a premium product. Even with a lot of tweaking, the colors are pretty dull. It's also more reflective than other glossy notebooks I've seen and used, which makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to use outside.

In the end, a couple missteps in overall execution make it a less-than-ideal choice for my use.

Buy HP ENVY 14-2020NR 14.5-Inch Notebook (Silver) Now

I recently purchased 4 of these laptops for our business. We work with 3D CAD drawings. This laptop has no problem running the 3d CAD programs. The display brightness is bright for the user. The bottom of the laptop stays cool. I like the lights on the keyboard helps me see the keys in low lit areas. I also like the usb port on the power adapter because i can charge my ipad with it (ipad cord isn't long enough to make to the outlet). I haven't had much time to test the sound out.

Dislike:

One of the laptop's underscore key doesn't work you have to press it 10 times to get it to type once. Screen viewing angle not the greatest.

Overall I would recommend this laptop to anyone.

EDIT:

RUN SAVE YOURSELF. THE SCREEN ON ALL FOUR LAPTOPS WE BOUGHT GOT SCRATCHED BY THE LIP AROUND THE KEYBOARD. ONE LAPTOP THE SOUND CRAPPED OUT AND NOW SOUNDS LIKE DONALD PLEASENCE in the movie GROUND ZERO. THREE OF THE LAPTOPS HAVE A KEY THAT DOESN'T WORK UNLESS POUNDED ON. HP TOLD ME I COULD SEND THEM BACK AND HAVE THE SCREENS REPLACED,BUT IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT TWO WEEKS WELL I LIVE OUTSIDE THE US BESIDE I NEED MY LAPTOP EVERYDAY FOR WORK.

CONCLUSION: ITS NOT A KEEPER

EDIT 2:

Wireless networking passed away on one of the laptops...can't wait to see whats next

I bought this laptop for $799 end of Oct 2011 as a general purpose computer for work and home use. So far, i have been quite satisfied with it.

Pros

1. solid metalic construction

2. backlit key pads is a big plus.

3. solid performing switchable 1G graphic card.

4. i5 processor is more than adequate for general home and work computing.

5. no bloat ware to deal with

Cons

1. Screen is not the highest resolution

2. keypads are fine, but could use a little more tactile feedback.

3. the fan motor is quiet, but there is a constant noise. compared to HP's own D6V, this is loud.

4. Not the most attractive laptop.

5. laptop is a bit heavy

6. battery life is only acceptable

7. no finger print reader

8. ram is a bit low at 4G

Overall, it's not a perfect laptop for the money, but definitely a good total package. you will not be able to play the latest action video games, but for general home/work use, it provides more than adequate power. The fan noise can be a bit irritating, but i guess that comes with a performace chip in a small package.

If you can get this laptop on sale at a good price, then it is definitively a great buy.

ASUS Eee Box EBXB202-BLK-X0179 Nettop PC with Windows XP Home - Black

ASUS Eee Box EBXB202-BLK-X0179 Nettop PC with Windows XP Home - BlackThe two I just ordered will make numbers 15 & 16 for me. They're great little systems. No, they're not going to blaze through a round of Photoshop, or the latest, greatest FPS game, but they'll fill the role of office machine in most offices. They'll run an Office suite, surf, handle e-mail, and most other mundane tasks with the best of them, all while taking up less space than a hard back book, and using less power than most laptops. If you're using them for what they're designed for, they're actually tiny little powerhouse machines.

And, they'll run Windows 7 Pro quite well, particularly if you kick 'em up to 2GB of RAM.

This Asus Eee Box was purchased for my sister-in-law to replace a dead "tower" computer that was too large for her anyway (both in terms of size and power). Installation was stone simple, and it worked perfectly right out of the box. The only glitch, if you will, was that her existing flat panel monitor (which she wanted to continue to use) had a connecting cable that was VGA on both ends, but the Asus's output for the monitor is DVI. So, I had to go to Radio Shack and buy a VGA-to-DVI adapter in order to use her monitor. Moral of the story is to look at your monitor cable, and if it's not DVI, buy the adapter that you need while you're on-line where it will cost you a few bucks, instead of three or four times that at your local electronics store. While you're at it, check to be sure that your keyboard and mouse are USB, otherwise they won't work. We used this new computer "opportunity" to upgrade to a wireless keyboard and mouse (Logitech with unified USB receiver).

The Asus is more than powerful enough for simple Internet browsing, email, and the occasional letter that you might want to write. This kind of usage is probably what 80% of the home-computing population needs, and the small "box" and price is great. So, if this sounds like you, this computer should work fine.

This item DOES NOT come with keyboard, mouse, or the DVI to VGA adapter that has been included in the nearly 100 eeeBox units we have purchased over the past year. So figure in another $20 for that on top of the Amazon price.

Gateway M675 Notebook Laptop Computer

Gateway M675 Notebook Laptop ComputerMy experience with Gateway has been terrible. Here is my story. I decided to purchase a new laptop computer last month and with Lenovo buying IBM Thinkpads, I decided to try a new brand (I have owned IBM Thinkpads in the past). I ordered the $3,000 Gateway NX 860 XL before leaving for vacation in March and received it while on vacation. Upon returning home, I had a business trip scheduled and decided to open and use my new computer. Within 3 days of using the computer, my power supply failed and I was without my laptop the last 2 days out-of-town. At the same time, Gateway was proactively trying to schedule a technician visit to fix a faulty video card within this computer. At this time, I decided to return the machine because of its lack of dependability. Now it came time to deal with the customer service department. When buying the machine I was assigned a sales rep who promised to be available with any questions I might have in the future. Therefore, this was the first person I tried to contact with the problems on my new machine. Needless to say, I NEVER received an answer from him after numerous voice/emails. Next, I wrote a letter to the CEO and finally received a call back from Gateway executive offices. A gentleman in that department informed me that I was outside the 15 days return policy (by 2 days) and that instead of getting a refund, I would have to return the machine for service. The next day my machine incurred another defect the screen failed. I can hear the machine start but I get no response from the screen (I even attempted to externally connect the laptop to another video screen with no luck). This was the final straw. I called both my sales representative (no response) and my new contact (from Gateway executive offices) leaving 4 messages in 2 days with no return call. It was not until I searched through the Gateway voicemail system that I got a real person who physically delivered the message to my contact for me.

After speaking again with Gateway executive offices, I received the same conclusion no return and I would need to send it back to the company. He informed me that it would take 1-5 days to receive a box from Gateway to pack up and ship out my product. Then, it would take 2 weeks to service and if I'm lucky to have my machine back in a month. Are you kidding? I have already ordered a new machine (Lenovo). Right now, it is as good as a $3000 doorstop.

All I wanted to do was return a product that did not work. In my business, reliability is extremely important and this machine is not reliable. Also, Gateway does not show respect for their customer. They hide behind policies instead of standing behind their product and realizing a product defect on their side.

Don't buy Gateway. The computer is lousy and the customer service stinks.

I am an IT Professional with 7 Degrees and Certifications. In fact I am working on 3 more now. I have had the M675 since 2004. It is still going strong. I also have a Gateway M685 (2007) that has bit the dust hard. It needs a new laptop screen. And I have a Gateway NW78 (2010). Obviously I like Gateway and their full size keyboards. The M675 is as solid as can be. It has had some work done on it but it still works. I am going to upgrade it to Windows 7 in the next two weeks. It does get hot but I am sure it will be around for years. It just works. It has 4 TB of external drives attached and just has no issues at all. Wireless works great.

Buy Gateway M675 Notebook Laptop Computer Now

I've owned the Gateway M675 notebook since February of 2003. The only problem that I've had with the system was a motherboard problem, which Gateway fixed without issue. Aside from that, I've used this computer for all of eight years and while heavy, it's extremely reliable.

The wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, CD-RW/DVD-RW drive works great, keyboard, LCD panel, front audio controls and everything else.

The only thing that I've had to buy for the system for replacement was a new battery (about $35) and a new power supply (about $45) a couple years ago. I also upgraded the RAM to the max capacity of 2GB and the hard drive to a 160GB drive.

Overall, I'd place the downfalls on this unit with the fact that it doesn't boot from USB devices, but then again, this laptop was made in 2003 and was no longer manufactured after 2005. The boot from USB requirement in the hardware simply did not exist in 2003. Why they haven't since added it, I don't know (the existing hardware technology would certainly support it).

Also, other downfalls are weight and heat. It's 8.7 lbs on my bathroom scale and the heat it generates is quite a bit...don't actually use this system on your lap, your thighs will be burning in no time. My boss felt the heat coming from the system while sitting on my desk and he actually said "Man...you can pop popcorn with that kind of heat!"

Other than those, I would place this system as a very, rock solid system. I've had more parts fail in my desktop computers than I have with this laptop (which is actually a desktop replacement system given it's got a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 processor, 2GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, 802.11g/b wireless, CD/DVD burner, four USB 2.0 ports and a FireWire (1394) micro port, and an ATI Raideon Mobility 9600 with 64MB Video RAM). Oh...it's got a floppy drive as well, but you can obtain accessories to go into the left bay (where the floppy drive is) that will enable other functions and features.

I have had this computer for about a month now.And it is great. At first I said I would not buy a gateway when they first came out because I owned one a long time ago and it was not nice.Thats when windows 98SE was out and that was the worse operating system I have ever noticed. Ever! But now you have vista to take it's place. So I decided to go ahead after years of thinking and I bought this gateway and it is by far the best looking and the best working one I have seen today.I work on computers and I would normally by a dell are a IBM around 5 years of age because they last forever. They new model computers I don't care what model they are will last you for a year tops if you use them enough. As you can see this laptop is still around and still working! Get it ! How many can say that when they go to besy buy and buy a laptop new! How many times did you go back and if your warranty was up you were screwed! Its a great laptop with a full keyboard I mean a full keyboard like you have on a desktop. Not squeezed together like the newer model laptops! All kind of buttons for your every need.I give this laptop rave reviews and its still going and count the years when it first came out and then count the years of the newer model laptop you have and does it still work. For this laptop to still work after 8 years I am please with no problems so how about that! Cant say that for many laptops now a days. You get 1 year with all that junk in it and it will last 1 year. Now I ask you whats better a laptop working for a long time are a suped up one that last a year.I got my money worth plus and this laptop still works without a hitch.Upgraded to 2gb of memory and 100gb hardrive. And now I can add up to 500 gigs with the new IDE PATA DRIVES.Man I have no complaints take it from me it will last you for ever! And I can put any operating system on it including Windows 7. Hows that for a laptop 8 years old and still can hang better than the new laptops Haaaa! haaa!! I bet you understand me now! Good luck cause this laptop rocks!

Want Gateway M675 Notebook Laptop Computer Discount?

I purchased my new Gateway laptop and since I had not heard anything bad about the company, expected to have a satisfactory product. My main complaint is the exceptionally slow time it takes to install a program. The install goes along at a reasonable time frame copying the program to my hard drive from CD. But at the final install step which it states will take two minutes, instead goes on and on for hours. That was my spyware program. A few days later, I tried to install programs which came with the computer and again, two hours later when I tried to stop the install, a message came up that 'program xxx is still installing, do you want to quit?' I responded 'no' and the install contined for another two hours. I finally stopped it and have not bothered to install any other programs. My advice? Do not buy a Gateway.

Acer 15.6" Laptop 6GB 500GB | V5-571-6891

Acer 15.6' Laptop 6GB 500GB | V5-571-6891So far I enjoy my Acer laptop (I have owned it for about one month). It is lightweight and I like the numbers positioned on the right. I have nothing bad to say about the product. Windows 8 is not my favorite running system, but I understand MS has a download for that soon to correct user complaints. The laptop was loaded with a bunch of junk I had to remove which I expected from reading the review from PC Magazine. I wish it had been loaded with some sort of MS office product. This is my second Acer product. I have owned an 8-inch laptop for at least three years that I use when traveling. I can say nothing bad about that product either.

As I write this review from the said device, I must admit I continue to feel the glow of guiltless acquisition of a solid purchase. This is still the best hardware-to-cost value I've found on the net, it runs more intensive programs than I initially had hoped it might, and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience learning Windows 8 and this machine. Some things to note are the Acer bloatware, which is easily uninstalled to your liking, and the somewhat unrelenting keyboard. You're going to literally have to break it in. The keys are shallow and a bit tight, and at first there is going to be some resistance. These are the furthest thing from a set of Blue Cherry MX you'll find. Inevitably, they will start to ease up and hit a sweet spot and you will be typing like a stenographer again in no time. The screen is beautiful, Windows 8 is far more enjoyable then you might hear from an overwhelmingly critical tech industry, and the machine is a perfect value for people with light tasks in mind. This thing is also slim and light and will transport in anything conforming to it's modest dimensions. I would surely suggest this computer to anyone.

1. This laptop is heavy.. seriously, It is not something to carry on roads or starbucks instead it is good for Home/office use.

2. It has extra numbered keyboard. so if you are used to regular keyboard then you might press wrong keys at times..

3.High performance6gb RAM/iCore 5.. I called sony representative and he told me number in the model tells performance. Higher the number..better the performance... so this machine is highest performer in e series for sony as it is 37.

4. Speakers volume is good for entertainment purpose.

I am generally happy with Sony products. Hope this one will last.. i am really scared to see failure of Acer for no reason. I will add more points based on my experience.

This computer is an outstanding value! You can get the same computer from Sony at a similar price, HOWEVER, here you will not spend the additional costs in sales tax, not to mention the FREE shipping (can vary if different seller than Data Vision)! With 6 gigs of memory, over 600 gigs of hard disk space and an i5 processor you won't beat this deal ANYWHERE, at least not in a higher end model laptop like this one. I really recommend the Sony Vaio wireless mouse in white to go with this, it's a very nice item as well!

After buying another HP to replace a defunct one and having it arrive with multiple software and hardware issues out of the box (it was returned after three days,) I decided to take another look at the Sony machines. This Vaio caught my eye and, after diligent research, I made the purchase.

I should have bought this machine first.

From a sheer looks point-of-view, it's a beautiful piece of machinery. When you turn it on, the functions and internal workings match that external view.

Without going into useless nuts & bolts, let me just say that I couldn't be happier with this laptop after a week's worth of putting it through as many paces as I could.

Five stars aren't enough, really.

core i5, 6 gigs of ram, full chiclet-style keyboard. Nice to look at, too. Good laptop for the price, I do not regret my purchase.

I have had this laptop for about a month now and it has worked great for a college student in need of a new computer. I use my laptop constantly and love the fast speed it stays at while I multi-task with 5 or 6 programs running at once with its 6gb of RAM. The keyboard is also extremely easy to type on and the number pad on the right works great for my accounting classes.

The hard shell of the laptop also seems very sturdy which is great because it feels very safe for travel. The design also looks great and many friends have complimented on how sleek it looks.

Overall, the laptop has had no performance issues so far and I am very happy with my purchase. If you are looking for a reasonably priced laptop to use for leisure, I would highly recommend this one. Its fast, easy to operate, and has been very dependable so far.
