I absolutely love how light and portable it is. This was the main selling point for me. It's also nice looking. I added this hard case to personalize it. PURPLE iPearl mCover® HARD Shell CASE for 13.3" Acer Aspire S3-951 / S3-391 series Ultrabook laptop
The screen is nice and bright however when I tried to use it outside the glare was pretty bad. I don't plan on using it outside too often, so this isn't a big deal for me. I have noticed that it starts to run a little slow if I have too many internet explorer windows open. This was never an issue with my old computer. The touch pad was a bit confusing initially but it might just be because I'm not used to it yet. My biggest complaint with the computer, really isn't the hardware but the software. Windows 8 is awkward and clunky without a touch screen. It really seems like an unnecessary upgrade. There is a learning curve that may turn some users off. I had to view several tutorials on YouTube, to learn how to navigate my computer with Windows 8.
All in all, this is a nice laptop. It would be an excellent laptop if it had a touchscreen, but I guess that would probably add another $200 to the price. My favorite laptop that I have ever had the pleasure of turning on!
This beauty is all around amazing.
First off, for me thin and light is crucial but I hate apple and loathed my macbook air; this is an all around upgrade from my old mac.
Acer designed an ultrabook that is more thin and less weight than the apple macbook air, and regardless of the viewer this laptop is more appealing to eyes than the other too. It has a thin sleek shell that looks classy and fits all occasions (work, school) while the solid silver finish looks as if it were as solid as a thin slab of sheet metal.
Memory is impressive as well. 320GB hard drive for plenty of room for every media file and download you could ever want while the 4GB DDR3 RAM and 3rd generation i3 processor ensures plenty of processing power for multi-tasking to keep up with everything you desire all at once.
Heres the bonus, theres an additional 20GB hard drive of additional SSD memory.
On top of that, this ultrabook runs windows 8 pro 64 bit nice and smooth with plenty of extra power available if/when needed and is packed with all the extras like; bluetooth 4.0, HD display, HDMI output for mirror display on second screen/projector, trial for microsoft office, Extended 3 Cell battery with capacity to run fo 6 hours straight at full output.
I could go on, but hopefully I have said enough. If you like the macbook air, how would you like it if it came thinner yet more solid, faster processing, more available memory, higher resolution for more clarity, better battery, and all around more convenient features for the average laptop user who desires compact and portable unit without sacrificing a bit on any other aspectI bought this computer because my current one is on its last legs. While I like that it's super lightweight (2 lbs.) and has a longer battery life, I didn't know that I bought the low-end version without the DVD drive or touch screen. There are lots of annoying things that take time to get used to like the Start button. It's gone. Finding commands is super annoying and I don't see the value of having the tiles--they're just a different version of icons. And, most importantly, I couldn't run an important software program that I must use on a daily basis So now I have to use both computers. I emailed the vendor twice and the responses were very unhelpful, so that's another minus.
The audio isn't that great and I miss having the full number keypad that one would find on a slightly larger laptop. But I think it's a good price ($535) for what I use it for. Other benefits: I no longer need a cooling pad and can carry it in my over-sized handbag.
Just be careful you get a laptop with everything you need and don't expect great customer service if you have questions/problems.Got this over Christmas, it worked for 2 weeks until mid January.
The computer would not boot and the recovery did not work.
I contacted Acer and booked this in for warranty. This is how it went.
1. Got the confirmation email
2. I was told I have to pay for my own shipping... fine, I paid $15 to ship it to Acer
3. Received a call from Acer and said I need to pay $199.99 for the repair because there is a damage on the side of the cover
4. I explained, I don't care about the damage and just wanted the computer to boot
5. The rep told me, they do not do "partial" repair and will not fix the booting issue only unless I fix the cover which is not covered by warranty (although they are unrelated).
6. At this point, I just told him to ship me the laptop back.
This is my third consecutive Acer laptop and my last one.
If you don't have issue with Acer, great. But once you do, don't plan to rely on their warranty.
