HP g6-1a50us Notebook PC - Silver

Although I've only had it for a few weeks now, this is my very first laptop and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The display image is sharp and clear making it perfect for movies and gaming. It fits perfectly in my backpack for school and can be hidden from my toddler easily. The only downfall I have seen so far is the 4 hour battery life. I have to carry around the power cord if I plan on using it for great lengths away from home. Over all, Its a great laptop.

Subject line really says it all. You're getting an amazing value here and when I bought it I thought it was too good to be true... well, I was right to a certain extent. Everything works fine and smooth, but the keyboard on this thing is just awful. If you're typing quickly and aren't smashing the keys hard enough, expect to press backspace every other second to go back and add a missing letter. I've gotten used to it now and I just type really hard, but my hands are already in enough pain as it is.

So, basically, if you don't mind having to type prety (see, that should read "pretty" but since I didn't hit 't' hard enough the second time it didn't respond, ugh) hard in order for the keyboard to be responsive this laptop is truly a great value! I would've given it 5 stars if the keyboard was even decent, but this is just an awful keyboard and, thus, an otherwise incredible value turns into an average buy.

*Update 7/27/11* I purchased another one of these for my business and it came in with a perfectly fine keyboard! Now I see another reviewer stating their keyboard was totally defective as well, so I'm guessing that HP is having issues producing the keyboards on these laptops consistently well. I'm going to file a warranty claim with HP (already sent them an email) and see what happens. I'm going to take this down to a 3/5 until the issue is resolved.

*Update 9/12/11* HP was kind and curteous about the issue and sent a shipping box immediately after I filed the complaint. It's too bad some of these are being shipped out with defective keyboards because, otherwise, these are laptops sold at an amazing value. I think it may very well be the reason their sold at that price... the quality control is poor here. If you get a defective keyboard don't wait on it, send it back immediately through Amazon and try again. It's a major inconvenience, whether or not HP is good about it, to have to go through warranty support.

Its a great computer. I bought it for my husband for father's day so he hasn't used it yet, but I have been setting it up for him. It was so easy to set up the wireless connection and the wireless printer. It's light, the screen is big and its fast. I love it and I am sure my husband will love it too. I also like the fact that Amazon.com has the no payment/no interest for 6 months, so I can pay it off with no interest.

Great laptop for my 8 year old son. He skypes with grandpa and friends, plays games, uses email. Nice graphics, builtin webcam, lightweight. I purchase this from a big box retailer of office products for a final price considerably less than Amazon. Do shop around. You might be able to find one with a rebate. I'd say I ended up paying about two thirds the cost of the one here.
