IBM ThinkPad T41 (2379DJU) Laptop (1.60 GHz Pentium M (Centrino), 256 MB RAM, 40 GB Hard Drive, DVD
IBM's website has excellent support. I love the automated stuff where it analyzes your computer and tells you what updates you need. Sometimes their driver upgrades are more for the IT person. But, just download their software installer and it works great. However, you must focus...if you want to understand what you have downloaded. Not totally for the novice. Tech support walked me thru it once and I was on my way.
So far so good after only a month, the T41 rocks! Particularly the higher-end graphics card, glad I went for that. I can tell the difference when comparing with my desktop LCD.
The CD burner works well and I use Nero 6. I had been using a 4x burner on my desktop and this one writes at 24x...what a difference.
If you are contemplating a notebook, consider this one. Pay the extra bucks and go with IBM...very glad I did!I've had a T-41 for about two years. It's been back to IBM three times for new motherboards when the video went out. It's been back once for a new wireless card. A second wireless card is coming via delivery service as I type. This time I get to put it in.
I've had several Thinkpads and love their functionality. IBM's service people are friendly and helpful. The problem is that I'm getting to know the guys in Atlanta way too well.
I asked IBM to replace this T-41 as a lemon. They responded by giving me an extra year of warranty. That was nice, but every time this thing goes down, it costs me lost time, and for someone who is self employed that is a bad thing.Back in 2004 I did quite a bit of research before settling on a T41 (from newegg.com). I got more RAM for 768M total. Over four years later it is still going very strong.
Great keyboard, light (even today), thin (even today), fairly fast, well-built screen tilting mechanism. Quiet, doesn't heat up too much.
If you're a vi user, you probably won't like the position of the Escape key (you can remap it to F1).
It took about three years for the battery to become unusable (I recently got a new one for about).
The built-in wireless antenna stopped working and I got a new one from Lenovo support (for free, it was still under the 3-year warranty), but the old one fixed itself as soon as the replacement arrived and has been working now for a few years since.
The left 25% of the space bar don't produce a space when pressed --started happening after around three years.
The left button on the lower mouse controls stopped working --started happening after four years.
I've been using a Macbook Pro for work, and every time I open the T41 now, it's such a relief to be able to tilt the screen as far back as I want.(a) Best keyboard ever made for laptops, (b) Decent speed, runs Office 2007 O.k., (c) Acceptable graphics (ATI 7500) or good graphics (ATI 9000 / 9600 / FireGL, the latter 2 can play Far Cry 1.0), (d) Thinklight is very useful on overseas plane flights, (e) fits perfectly on all airplane tray tables, (f) Outstanding battery life with CD-battery + 9-cell (5-6 hrs if you dim the screen), (g) It actually sleeps and wakes up properly unlike 50% of all laptops, and (h) You can just grab it and run to a conference room, yanking it out of the minidock, and it will sleep properly, unlike newer (T60, T400) machines where you have to hit a key first !!
DONT buy anything with less than 1.8 Ghz processor as the 1.7 Ghz and lower have a smaller cache(2MB vs 3MB) and are about 33% slower.
I have used about 4x of these machines at work over the past 6 years. I just got my 4th machine so each machine lasts about 2 years. The typical failure is a really bad/sticky key (1st), a failure of some buttons on the synaptics track pad (2nd), a hard drive failure (3rd), or a failure of the power-port male plug, making it difficult (but not impossible) to charge the unit. With the exception of the hard drive failure, NONE of the failures were catastrophic "I cannot do any work right now" type of failures, so the system is robust.
The IBM repair manual is fantastic so I buy new parts on ebay and repair it myself. I've replaced hinges(very hard), screens(very hard), keyboard(easy), touchpad(easy), fans(medium you need CPU paste). The keyboard in particular takes 120 seconds to replace as it's just 5 screws and it pops out.nice laptop for the money, clean works well. They upgraded it with a new 160 GB hard drive, and 2 GB of memory for the same price. Fast delivery.

Cons: "clicking" sound from left hinge
I really only use my laptop for my writing assignments and to check email...This laptop is perfect for that. Some back story that would be helpful: This is the 3rd laptop I have purchased in my endeavor to find a replacement for my Toshiba Satellite which has lasted over 5 years. I bought and RETURNED another entry-level Satellite as well as a Gateway; long story short, they weren't better than this Lenovo.
As far as typing goes, it was/is bit of a transition to switch from a basic laptop keypad to one with the numeric keypad at the right something I've never had in a laptop. The good news is that my hand & finger placement on this laptop do not "feel" shifted to the left like they do on the Toshiba Satellite. And there is plenty of space for my large fingers.
2.2 GHz processor and 4 GB of ram is all I need for what I do. I don't "game" or do any heavy graphics editing on this laptop. The boot up is quick and applications start very quickly. I have noticed on the Toshiba that when I listened to music and opened other applications that the music would "stutter" or pause while the processor caught up with the application. That was NOT the case with this Lenovo and multi-tasking is effortless here.
As I stated above, I also like to listen to music when I work which can be a trial on most entry level laptops. The speakers on this Lenovo are really good way better than the Toshiba (sounded like cell phone speakers) and is as good or better than the Gateway. Remember, this is a basic laptop so you won't be able to jam out with big bass.
One thing that bugs me about this Lenovo: when you flip up the screen and push it all the way back, the left hinge makes this "clicking" sound. The sound repeats when you wiggle the screen back & forth at this point. I'm believe it's the "build" of the laptop and not a mechanical fault as I noticed it on the floor model. I can live with it, personally. I've never noticed anything like it on other laptops, but when you're buying in this price range, you have to take the bad with the good.
Overall, if this laptop will be for you, it will suit your needs if you'll be only doing the basic administrative type tasks. If you're purchasing this for a "gamer," it won't be powerful enough. The laptop arrived very quickly and in good shape. It was packaged in the original Lenovo box with a Lenovo seal. We have been using it for a while and have had no problems. It was a replacement for my wife's old hp laptop, and she has been very satisfied with its performance.muy buen vendedor me llego todo a tiempo y en mu buen estado le doy el maximo puntaje al vendedor

HP ENVY Pro 14" Ultrabook - B8U90UT
I recommend this laptop. The keyboard is really nice and the touchpad works great, the two finger scrolling is awesome. The brightness adjustment is really good too, most laptops and desktop computers have it set so the brightness level jumps way too much and you only wanted a slight change. This one does it less than an inch, so slight reducing of brightness is great. the design is practical as well. I appreciate that the cover is not plastic but has a metal design. And it doesn't heat up fast or get very hot. Also, keep in mind this ultrabook has 2 hd, a solid state and spinning drive :)I purchansed this laptop after much research and preffered to buy it from Amazon. However my experience is too bad with HP this time though I have always used an HP laptop. Here is the list of faults I found with the laptop and they are quite serious and annoying and won't let you work smoothly.
1) creepy system sound on every boot or windows resume
2) caps letter on without caps lock on after windows resume
3) shift key characters show up without shift key turned on after resuming windows
4) new window opens on browser on every single click after resuming windows
5) shortcut in my favorites get deleted and goes to recycle bin after resuming window
6) delete key does not work
7) while typing if press delete key it keeps on deleting all subsequent characters in the reverse direction
8) while rebooting or resuming window any folder or file click shows alert "want to delete"? Yes/ NO doesn't work -the alert windows keeps popping up
9) Windows photo viewer crashes

This laptop was not at all what I expected. Firstly I had to pay more than the advertised price of the laptop but I didnt mind considering it being an ultrabook. There is no backlit keyboard, no solid state drive and the mousepad has missing functionality, basically it is like any generic laptop in a sleek housing if I knew that I would have bought a sleekbook instead and would have paid much less for the same product. Dont buy this product unless u have money to waste.Read Best Reviews of HP ENVY Pro 14" Ultrabook - B8U90UT Here

Just like other buyers, I was weary.. what ifIt has been almost 2 weeks, and I love my new laptop.
Touchscreen make Windows 8 much more user friendly then when used with a mouse.
I do have to say, that moving icons around the START menu was much easier with USB mouse.
I blew away all stuff I will never use, and personalized it under an hour.
Swipe from right, you get the 5 charms of generic options... search, share, start, devices and settings
I love my Picture password option to log into my PC. it is neat.
swipe from bottom, I see all apps, I am having fun exploring... I do not see this as a disaster, I like it.
I have loaded Adobe Element 11, Panasonic HD writer AE, Arcsoft Media Impressions HD3, ULEAD 6.0
( runs fine, just edited project and burned DVD), microsoft Office 2000, no glitches, no blue screens.. everything
so far is running smooth.
I will try to create HD movie sometime next week, and will provide update.
When my personal backup data drive gets scanned, it creates another app icon, when I go to it,
I see another start menu type icons with all pictures, video and music... It is awesome to glance at it
from time to time and see pictures from years back...
I have nothing bad to say... and this thing called "backlit keyboard" it is pretty, but I have not found any use for it.
Battery will be definite problem with time, but what did you really expect as default battery?? 9V brick?
Then you would complain how ugly and bulky the battery is... I will order upgrade when the battery dies.
Update on 5/9/2013
Only problem so far is the DVD-RW application used with Windows Explorer.
I had to delete and re-install the DVD-RW driver, but still get intermittent
"DVD drive is not recognized" when dragging files to the DVD-RW drive.
I used different application, ULEAD DVD recorder, and everything works well.
HD processing worked fine with applications that I have been given.
Very happy with the purchase.

I am pre computer generation, but skilled enough to know what I wanted in a lap top. I use an I pad and I phone regularly so my habit is to touch the screen.....this computer allows me to switch from touch to manual at any given time...so it is perfect for someone who has old school habits intermixed with new school technology. The computer is everything as advertised and more....for a non-geek, I am thrilled at the vibrancy of the screen and the user friendly technology. The size is perfect ...not too big, but ample for "tired" eyes. Settings allowed for a deep purple background and automatically made complimentary text colors that work great. The backlit display is handier than expected. And the keyboard has a comfortable feel....by being larger, there is plenty of room to rest the palm of the hands while typing. The tutorials and support provided are thorough and simple to understand. And Windows 8? For those of us old enough to have had to transition repeatedly to new programs as the computer technology evolved so fast, this is a snap....I have connected it wirelessly to all of my devices including printer...and it works perfectly. Love it more than any computer so far....and, it is much less expensive then in store pricing.Want Acer Aspire V5-571PG-9814 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Silky Silver) Discount?
Received laptop 2-day prime in good condition. Install instructions were straight forward. Followed a few prompts and I was up and running in what seemed to be 5-10 minutes if that much. I did not have any hardware issues, outdated drivers, or wireless issues that some folks are indicating that they've had. My install was clean and quick. I rated 4/5 (would really like to give the machine 4.5 stars) because of some minor design questions that I had. In addition to that, my screen came with a damaged pixel on the screen (1 pixel is missing color). It is noticeable on a black screen, but I don't notice it when I'm working on normal browser or app windows. 1 pixel isn't enough to make me box it back up and demand a new machine. My thoughts so far.
Laptop: sleek and sexy looking. brushed aluminum looks very nice. Screen is very clear, sharp, and easy on the eyes. I've not even bothered to set up my second screen as of yet! Love the back-lit keyboard. The keyboard itself has a nice touch to it, good response and appropriately sized for my hands. The touch pad is one solid pad (no right and left buttons) and some have mentioned that they don't like this. I don't mind as I usually "two hand" a touch pad anyway. I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so I don't bother with the touch pad much and when I do, I can manage.
Things that I noticed:
-DC battery included does not have a "straight end connector" but rather has a right angled adapter end that plugs into the laptop. This is a bit awkward for my desktop layout because the cable needs to be adjusted forward or backward to lay the cable flat. Maybe this design keeps it from being pulled straight out of the power socket as a straight cable would do?? IDK. Just my own annoyance.
-Speakers are on the bottom of the laptop. Seems to me a better design would be on the top, across the length of the laptop above the function keys. Pandora was a bit muffled when I had the laptop laying directly on my lap instead of the lap desk. Sound improved with a lap desk holding the laptop, but still... I'll probably hook a Bluetooth speaker to it if I want better sound.
Mini card reader (SD) is on the front left corner of the machine (which seemed weird to me) and I can see where it might get in the way or bumped if you leave it in.
Video/RJ45 dongle nice that the manufacturer includes this dongle to plug into the proprietary port for Ethernet or video support. Bummer that I need to find a convenient place to store it for quick use when I need it. I usually have my second monitor attached to my laptop when at my desk this will just be another cable "mess" on the left side where all the ports are located.
-LOVE the touch screen. It seems to be point on. It has worked flawlessly for me using both included and custom apps and surfing the web. It really enhances my computer experience. One of the major reasons that I bought this model and I'm really glad I did. LOVE it!
Highlights:
quiet
cool running (did not overheat the entire time it laid flat on my lap without a lapdesk)
screen is sharp touch screen is AWESOME
keyboard is comfortable (back lit keyboard is very nice)
battery charged to 100% in about an hour (I wasn't paying close attention as I wasn't in the room while it was charging)
battery lasted roughly 4 hours for me (again, I didn't pay attention to when I exactly unplugged). I was listening to Pandora and installing multiple programs, so this probably taxed the power consumption.
before it without warning shut down. To be fair, the screen did darken about an hour before shutdown and give me a warning, but when it actually shut down, it didn't even say "I told you so!".
Light weight. 5.5 lbs. Much lighter than my Dell Inspiron. Will be much easier carrying around.
Fast. 3rd generation i7 CPU and 8G RAM is a nice upgrade for me. I'm confident that it will last me a while.
All ports are on the left side as other reviewers have mentioned. Not a problem for me.
Windows 8
I actually like it. I'm a Linux gal at home and Windows gal at work. Experiencing new OS's is not an issue for me because if I don't like what they give me, I create it how I want it.
Installed RocketDock.com dock (apple dock) and loaded my most used programs on it.
installed classicshell from sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/) to give me a start menu that Windows 8 has removed in this OS.
OVERALL: I highly recommend this laptop. It's an affordable option for someone looking for a fast machine with touch screen
VAIO T Series 15 Touch Ultrabook
It is fast, the touch screen is an amazing feature so useful in so many situations, especially with Windows 8 but even when reading pdfs and browsing web pages.
Its very thin and light. I love the backlit keyboard.
Sony has included some nice software with it.
Battery lasts around 3 h on medium to heavy usage.
I love how tiny the charger is.
The screen is bright and colorful, whites are very white. Full HD looks nice.
However, it has visible slightly darker lines on the screen (it might be a faulty screen, or it might be just the type of display) which is very annoying.
The microphone catches every tap on the the track-pad, keyboard, the body of the laptop and when on skype the other party hears it as very loud scratching, so you definitely need an external mic. And here comes the other issue the laptop comes with a single jack for both mic and headphones and if you only plug a mic it doesnt recognize it'and keeps using the internal one, so you need a full headset (headphones with a mic) to make it work. That was my work-around at least.
The keyboard has little feedback and makes it hard to type.
Oh, and the web cam is low quality.....but this thing has to be hard reset at least once a day.
If you leave the screen on and come back to use it 20+ minutes later, you just get a black screen. You have to hold down the power button until it turns off and then power it back on.
If you surf too many tabs, eventually the system stops responding and you have to do the same thing again.
I've downloaded all of the updates from MS and Sony, but the problem persists!
Buyer beware.
I had high hopes for my first Sony computer, but this may be my last.
MSI X320-037US 13.4-Inch Laptop - Black
The packaging and design of the X340 are beautiful, and contrary to some other reviewers, I do not find it to be too plasticy or the keyboard to have too much flex. I think Timothy Lam's review is spot on so I won't duplicate. The machine runs Vista 32 respectably right out of the box, but I immediately upgraded to Windows 7 32-bit without a hitch or DVD drive using a shareware program called Virtual Clone Drive. Projected battery life increased by about 20 minutes to 4:07, but I have not had it long enough to cite what you can realistically expect. If that is unacceptable there is supposed to be an optional 8 cell battery, or you should consider the X320 with Atom Z530 and 8 hour battery life for $600 (same size and great screen).
I think the screen size is ideal for an ultra-portable, and despite the screen being glossy, I noticed very little glare, especially compared to the HP 1000. Although the touchpad lacks 2 discreet buttons, I found it to be excellent, as are the speakers for a notebook. The light weight and ergonomics were perfect for chilling on the couch, and working or surfing. It really is a delight to use, and kind of intoxicating.
In summary, depending on your needs, there is virtually nothing to dislike about this computer and I think MSI has scored a big hit in this 13.4" ultra-portable category.
Buy MSI X320-037US 13.4-Inch Laptop - Black Now
The MSI X340 is an extremely slim (0.7" thin) and light (just under 3-lb) laptop that rivals the MacBook Air, but without the high price tag and the MSI runs Windows! Vista Home Premium 64-bit to be exact. I have an Lenovo U110, which is an amazing laptop all on its own, but I found myself wanting a bigger screen, and the x340 is the perfect answer, its 13.4" LED-backlit LCD screen is bright and show good vivid color contrast. The keyboard is not as responsive as the Lenovo (which generally regarded as having the best keyboard in the industy), but nevertheless, it is a very respectable keyboard that show little flex during typing. The HDMI 1080p works perfectly on my Samsung LCD, which I used quite often not just to watch video, but also to simply use it as a large computer monitor along with my cordless Logitech keyboard and mouse. The HDMI also passes audio to my Samsung LCD TV speaker, not sure if it pass 5.1 digital surround signal since I don't have an HDMI-capable AV receiver. This is just about the most perfect ultra-portable laptop, with its price, weight, large 13.4" screen. The only thing I can think of that would make this laptop perfect is an additional USB port (currently only 2) and the additional of a second/right mouse button, and perhaps a slightly more powerful battery. The standard 4-cell last a little over 3 hours of mixed use with Wifi on at all time with FTP upload, web browsing, document creation and screen brightness set at about 75%. I know some of you might also want to add DVD/blu-ray drive to the mix, but the resulting increase in price, size and weight will not justify the benefit. This is a wonderful laptop for those of us who want a small and light ultraportable with a large screen, but didn't want to spend more than $1000 for a new laptop.Read Best Reviews of MSI X320-037US 13.4-Inch Laptop - Black Here

Cons:

Other than the keyboard, I absolutely love this machine. The LED screen is bright and crisp just as my MacBook Pro. I was just about to buy MBA before I read about this laptop.I installed Ubuntu 9.04 and with minor tweaks (mostly to xorg.conf for the weird screen resolution), got everything working correctly. I need to use Unix as I'm a software engineer and the performance of this does not disappoint. It is now the portable machine for the RubyHead.

Dell Inspiron 14RN i14RN-1818DBK 14-Inch Laptop (Black)
The sound quality is fairly good, although I'm not sure why Dell put the speakers on the bottom. They're right in the front where the base slopes up, so they're somewhat pointed toward me, but the sound is a little muffled when I put it on my lap instead of on a hard, flat surface. It's somewhat easy to accidentally press the button that pops open the CD tray while carrying it. The screen is shiny and bright, and the webcam image is reasonably clear, even in dim light. The microphone sound quality is clean -I don't hear any hiss or buzz -and it picks up just fine from a couple of feet away.
Predictably comes with useless pre-installed Dell utilities that you'll probably want to remove. I don't really feel the need to comment on its performance -the specs on this one are fairly common, so you should be able to do your own research on the hardware.I normaly don't do reviews but for this item i must. I read all the reviews for the Dell and on the advise of the computor Geek that services the computers at work boughr one. I have none of the issues mentioned in the bad reviews, it runs cool, so quiet you foget its on, fast, and with several items up at the same time the ram is only running 35% and the unit still runs lightnig fast. I use my laptop as if it was a tower, I use a wireless mouse & key pad and a 23" monitor, the laptop sits closed in the corner of my desk, if I could find a way to start it without opening the lid I would probably never open it. If your looking for a compact power house and don't need a large screen or the 10 key option, this would be a good choice. I would recomend this to a friend.

Laptop is replacement for 2006 XP. So far, it is great. Boots fast, is stable, and maintains wireless connection. I do not like the add-on software that came with it, though (antivirus, cloud backups, etc. with) which persistently pop up and are "in your face" more now than ever urging you to sign up or buy. I paid for the laptop and that's all I want and I will shop for whatever I want when I want to. I don't appreciate Dell being sneeky about the hype. I got a good price through an Amazon vendor and fast, predictable delivery when promised. I ordered this laptop after searching the net for like 2-3 days. This is the cheapest i5 with 6GB Ram and 640GB HDD out there.
Also, it has got every other feature, out there in other laptops, costlier than this one.
Though, the only thing missing would be the presence of a graphic card.
Other than that, bang on target, with every feature I wanted viz. USB 3.0 and HDMI out.
I ordered this for $549 on amazon on black Friday(Got a nice deal, eh!).
Now it has been like a week, I am using this laptop, no problem whatsoever.
Dell Inspiron Mini 910 Intel Atom - 1.6 8GB 1GB 8.9" 1000 Intel GMA 950 8Cell NONE CAM
I chose Dell over Asus and Acer because I think Dell makes better quality products. The Asus eeePC looks kind of cheaply made. I didn't order the Acer, because I've had hardware problems with Acers in the past and Acer tech support pissed me off. The HP netbooks look good, but I've been a bid Dell fan for years. Dell is also the only manufacturer that ships netbook computers with Ubuntu, the most popular Linux operating system. I am switching to Linux because Microsoft pissed me off with Windows Vista. I switched to Ubuntu Linux on my full size old Dell laptop as well.
So here is my review. This little computer is very solid and well built. I think it will last for years, like the other Dell products I've owned in the past. The battery life is good. It's rated at 4 hrs, but other reviewers claim 3 1/2 hours. That's still pretty good. The card reader slot is a nice feature. I picked up a 4gb SD card from Amazon for $10 for extra storage. Some XP users even get a 16gb SD card and move their My Documents folder to it do save hard drive space. The 8.9 inch 1024x600 screen is very sharp. It's a great quality screen, but it is kind of small. Oldsters will need to get out their reading glasses to use it. I think any computer this small would have the same problem though. I would give this computer 5 stars, but the keyboard takes some getting used to. Some of the keys like ' are hard to find and the shift key is small. I find myself hitting the touchpad while typing and it makes the cursor jump all around. Now I use a USB mouse instead of the touchpad. It works a lot better that way. I can live with the small keyboard. It's just a compromise for the small size, weight and portability.Computer didn't come with Microsoft internet. Also had a few scratches on the outside. Otherwise it was in fairly desent condition. Felt like I paid to much for it to have scratches and for there not to be any programs on it. I'm having to send to the geek squad and have programs installed in order to use. I originally got this for my 9 year sons birthday and he couldn't even use it. He enjoys netflix and I couldn't install the programs in order to use it. My son was really bummed. It did arrive on time.

DI ordered my Dell Mini 9 on 9/20/08. The battery has failed and won't charge. I wish I had checked other brands before I ordered this one. The hard drive is small and there is no CD/DVD drive. I purchased an external drive (Targus) and found that I had to purchase software to support the DVD drive. Very disappointed.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 20994KU 15.6-Inch Laptop (Dawn Gray)
Okay, lets get into the computer.
Un-boxed it, first thing I noticed was how nice it looked out the box, build quality was above average and looked great. Much better than the HP DV6T Quad that I returned due to terrible quality control and build quality on that thing was atrocious!
Powered it up and wow the screen is gorgeous. Beautiful glossy display, in FULL HD 1920x1080 of awesomeness. Viewing angles are great, colors pop and blacks are deep making a very rich viewing experience. The screen is very comparable to the DV6T FHD screen which I also loved, viewing angles can't quite match a quality IPS but it's close. This is subjective but one of the main selling points for me would be the gloss screen. Ever wonder why the displays on Macbooks and iMacs ect are so amazing and colors are so rich and vibrant? A big reason for that is the glossy overlay.
Keyboard and mouse feels literally 10x better than the DV6T, the touchpad clicks registered nicely, almost Macbook like. The tracking is great, keyboard travel is just right with just the right amount of feedback for you fast typists. Backlit keys are a great feature to have. No complaints here. Love the input combo.
Make no mistake by it's appearance on the outside, though it may look like any other normal multimedia laptop, inside is the guts of a MONSTER. This baby will run neck and neck with custom Sager's and Alienwares costing twice as much! Which is amazing since it doesn't weigh 15 lbs, isn't 4 inches thick and doesn't look like a fallen piece from the stealth bomber.
This thing rips, it will play literally any new game on High or Ultra settings at full 1080p! With very smooth 30-60fps! It packs a double whammy, Ivy Bridge 3rd Generation Core i7 Quad Processor and a Kepler based GTX660M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory! Throw any project at it, it will churn it up and beg for more.
Toss in an open mSATA slot that operates in SATA III 6GB/s and you can stick a 128/256GB mSATA SSD in there as the main duty drive, then use the mechanical drive for all your storage needs. It's a win/win situation! Lesser mortals who are stuck with computers that don't have an mSATA port need to take drastic measures in order to have the same awesome capabilities. Usually needing to remove the optical drive completely in order to replace it with a hard drive caddy, allowing room for their mechanical drive since the original space would be now occupied with a full size SSD.
Let's wrap up this review with some straight to the point answers.
Does it have USB 3.0? Of course it does!
HDMI out? YES!
Blu-ray burner? YES!
Card reader? YES!
Does it really come with a FHD 1920x1080 display? YES! YES! YES!
This is the swiss army knife of computers, If I had to write down everything I wanted in a computer, this one would have it all. I would pay twice as much for this system if I needed to, it's really that good! Go buy one yourself, dooooo it!This computer is just awesome. It has very nice specs considering the price. Overall, this computer has handled everything I have thrown at it, which includes: Crysis, Ableton, and Photoshop. Aesthetically speaking, this computer looks very nice with it's gunmetal finish, very classy. The screen on this computer is flawless, especially with 1920x1080p. It looks just like the retina display on the new mac book pro. The JBL speakers do nice work to any music (mind you they have actual sub-woofers.) The webcam is also very nice, with a nice 720p output. The i7 processor can be overclocked, which allows it to multitask with easy. I have had no problems with this computer and is a very good competitor to the new mac book pro. So, if you want performance with a sleek design and at an affordable price, this is the ultimate laptop!

This computer is fast and has amazing speakers. The display, however, started to show deadpixels. I believe this problem is because of the too fragile display, with which i had to play around to 'fix' the problem temporarily. I have returned the item because of this problem only. All other aspects of the computer are very good.I expected higher quality construction/assembling from lenovo.

Found there are some reviews grossly off mark when I finally have it in my hand. here is my take:1) The build quality is solid with anodized rose-golden metal backing and inside. No keyboard reflex while typing.
2) The keyboard layout takes some time to get used to. The keys are a bit too small.
3) Very little heat or noise dissipation while surfing the net, unlike my 3-yr-old mbp.
4) The screen is bright and clear from wide angles, A+.
5) It weighs maybe even lighter than my 15" mbp, which is decent.
6) To my surprise, very few bloatwares installed if any.
7) heard it's lighting fast with mSATA. Can't wait to try it out.

I purchased this laptop after doing some research for laptops tuned toward gaming. PC Magazine rated this laptop as a top pick and gave it their "Editor's Choice" for it's power and capabilities. I have had this laptop for over 6 months, and I absolutely love it. The screen resolution (1080p) is fantastic and along with the NVIDIA graphics card provides a crisp and clear visual experience. The cooling element is nicely designed, with the heat vent on the left side of the computer, allowing the heat of the machine to escape through one vent, thus making the keyboard always cool (This was unlike my old HP laptop, where the heat escaped through the bottom and sides of the laptop, making the keyboard incredibly hot after long gaming sessions). The keyboard itself is very crispy--my hand freely flows from key to key, and the keys are filled in in-between so no food/dirt/etc. gets underneath the keys, and the keys can be lit up during nighttime. The only real complaint I have is the trackpad. The right and left keys on the track pad are like an Apple laptop, where they are embedded within the trackpad itself (there is a faint visible line that separates the right and left keys, unlike an Apple laptop. However, I wouldn't not buy this laptop because of this (I also personally use an external mouse). On another note, I recently did a complete factory restore (to clear a lot of program clutter I had) and I found it incredibly easy to do. You simply hit the One-Touch Recovery button, hit accept and the laptop takes care of the rest.If you're looking to purchase a gaming laptop, I would highly recommend this one. I would also recommend buying it here, off Amazon. Lenovo's website store seems to be incredibly slow. When I originally went to place my order with Lenovo, the site said the laptop would SHIP in 3 weeks. Here on Amazon, it shipped the day after I purchased it, and arrived in 2 days.

UPDATE 12/3/11:
HP replied to my comments above and offered help (again), but they still couldn't do anything.
Then I asked Amazon to send me a replacement, which they did, and it works GREAT! Amazon paid for all shipping, and they let me keep the first one until after I received the replacement! Amazon customer service is Amazing.
UPDATE 1/19/13:
After one year I am still very happy with this laptop, and happy with HP. The computer works very well, using a slow DSL internet connection, it is fast enough to watch videos. Any software problems are fixed online by HP, free for as long as I own it.Its cooling is fine, not like some other HP notebooks. I3 is not perfect but it is good for daily uses and some games. This large screen is good for gaming and watching vedios; battery is not bad for such a big screen.
