Dell Inspiron 17R 1599MRB 17.3-Inch Laptop (Mars Black)

Still pretty fast since it comes with a Core i5 which is a dual core(i7 is quad). Very nice layout of keyboard. I bought 2, one for my wife. Comes from Dell with McAfee Antivirus for one year, full online backup, and an antitheft. It doesn't come with startup software or Windows 7 backup but you can make your own if you have blank DVD's(I would recommend this). Overall nice laptop. No problems as of yet. I upgraded my video card and it handles the newest games nicely. It also comes with a warranty package for in-home service for a service person to come to your house and hardware replacement if anything should go wrong the first year. This comes as part of the package but you can delete that if you don't think you need it. I called Dell three months later and they refunded me the prorated amount.

It should have come with a blue-ray play capability which is becoming the standard but it doesn't. It is quite heavy. If I were do purchase a laptop again in the future I would get a 15inch screen....probably a lighter laptop and easier to find a cheaper laptop bag. Otherwise nothing else to complain about it.

I had this laptop for about a week. It is fast and operation is fine. Here is the good and bad.

Bad:

1. Video playback is not impressive. It is somewhat pixalated for no apparent reason.

2. Sleep mode does not work well. If you unplug the laptop it goes into hibernation and then takes quite some time to come out of it.

4. If you are doing anything with video the battery lasts about 2 hours.

5. Touch-pad is just OK, a little jumpy.

Good:

1. Fairly light for such a large screen.

2. Looks nice.

3. Thinner looking than I expected.

4. The sound is awesome for a laptop, best I've heard in a well priced system.

So far I have nothing but praise for this lap top. A bit heavy, but, that was expected because of the larger screen. Everything that was advertised was correct. Good sound & graphics (screen clarity). I got it on sale, so, that was a bonus. I'd recommend it to anyone in the market for a nice laptop.

Just got to say the battery life on this laptop is HORRENDOUS. (well you really cant expect much from this monster) After a full charge it took about 20 minutes for it to get down to 88%. As for the 6 GB RAM and i5 processor, it Works AMAZINGLY FAST. this is also a heavy computer to carry around if your on the go. A very useful thing about this computer is the numeric pad like on a normal desktop keyboard it is very helpful.

All in all this is a great computer and i would recommend this to another friend.

The item was well packed and arrived in two days, as promised by Amazon for Prime members.

The laptop is very well finished and has adequate memory for any home usage.

1. Excellent resolution.

2. Comes with software that is basic.

3. Key pad is good and very responsive.

4. I owned earlier 17 inch Inspirions. Sound quality was awful. This is far better, equipped with JBL sub.. However high emphasis on base and some music sounds muddy

5. The icons pinned on the display keep shifting every time you turn on. Irritating.

6. Not easy to copy documents. I had to seek help from dell. You have to use control c and then paste using control V. may be the problem with windows 7. Similarly view (Tiles, lists so on ) tucked on the right side. Eralier version is far better on the left under "view"

7. Lighter than previous inspirions, eg. 9400

8. Wish provided more uSb2 connections .

9. opening the tray door of DVD drive is not smooth. Need to press few times. Similarly for ejecting the disc. Earlier versions are far better

Overall i gave 4 points because of the quality build and display and basics are provided with strip down unit
